my attempts at Tomoko Nakamichi's Nejiri (twist) top from the book Pattern Magic.
also crafted a simple fold over tube skirt to pair with it.
love the design of the twist top! the pattern was relatively easy to follow given I'm a beginner sewist and am self taught. there are lots that i would change about my drafts, but as they are- i love them and they're completely wearable.

Writing Apollo-as-a-young-deity is fun because sometimes it involves completely making shit up based on the loose outline of a story told through old poems, prayers and plays and other times it involves researching the totally legit and well documented ancient art of studying sheep livers to make sure your statesmen don't accidentally piss off Jupiter.
In completely unrelated news, if anyone has any recommendations for books about bird augury, that'd be wonderful.

Prompt 241
Wing au? Wing Au. With perhaps a bit of a twist. Also a hint of eldritchness perhaps. For fun!
Ghosts have wings. Sure, they aren’t normally seen, not in the visible spectrum, but they do. Scanners pick them up, and sometimes a ghost might even reveal them, which was hypothesized to be some sort of animalistic intimidation attempt. (Something more than one Amity Parker rolled their eyes at)
Everyone had seen them at least once- the motorcycle-driving ghost’s mass of shadowy feathers, the green-haired girls matching shaggy ones, the rocker’s ones that looked like pages of music before bursting into flame. Even the box ghost’s had been spotted- feathers looking more like sheets of cardboard than anything else.
It wasn’t until the whole kidnapped to the ghost zone that anyone saw Phantom’s, but that was another tale unto itself really. Honestly the arrival of the GIW would have maybe been seen as positive before, but the fact that many of them had looked in the mirror or gone to the doctors only to find feathers beginning to sprout on their back soured it.
Especially as the GIW continues to prattle on and on about how all ecto-contaminated scum are less than human, less than bacteria. And well, what does that make them? Them, who have been to the realms of the dead and gods and back, touched by the swirling green energy in ways incomprehensible? Changed by that energy?
So the people silently brush hidden feathers together, quietly rebuff the white-wearing lunatics from the city as best they can, and hope to anything listening that they can stop anyone else from disappearing. That maybe they can find the few no one noticed had been taken before it’s too late, even if they have to tear down the entire government to do it.

A gimmick which I think would be interesting in a visual novel: small variation in the visual designs of the sprites and backgrounds based on who's narrating a given scene. Not large variations, mostly—buildings are going to have generally the same architecture, people are going to have generally the same outfits, et cetera—but lots of details shifting around on the margins, showing the texture of the characters' thought-processes through the visual design of the world as they see it, rather than only through the text of their narration.
So, for example, one could have one viewpoint character be unusually faceblind, and portray this by having all the sprites have Same-Face Syndrome when viewed from their perspective, even as they hold onto more variation face-wise in everyone else's perspectives. One could have one viewpoint character who's unusually conscious of the fine details of their physical environment, and portray this by drawing the environment-art with much more fiddly detail when in their perspective, showing wood-grain and electrical wiring and other such things which are abstracted away in others' perspectives of the same areas. Et cetera.

Fic anon from last time
You enjoy that truck hitting fic?
I'd understand if not
Imma be honest, I failed to notice the truck you promised me, Fic Anon
Tumblr media
Memes aside yeah no I didn't like it, but not for the reason I think you expect
You kind of raised my expectations when you said this fic would shock me. I was getting ready to read something that would knock me off my feet, but it was just a fic about raising a baby?¿ And like. The writing style is good, but I'm not this fanfic's target audience. I find baby stories boring because they put a character who essentially has no personality at the center of the narrative

Free simple Fin Fin plush pattern!
Having found the amazing blender plugin Seams to Sewing Pattern, I created a Fin Fin plush model in Blender with the intent to make it in real life (despite not having sewn anything since I was very little).
And... here he is! 100% hand sewn to the best of my newbie ability. I'm now releasing this pattern for free, hopeful to see more Fin Fin out in the world!
Download Link (Google Drive Folders)
Kofi donation link
Disclaimers under the break (Please read before sewing!):
I'd recommend machine sewing if you take this up yourself. Hand sewing requires a lot of patience, but it is very doable if it's your only option.
Some basic sewing knowledge is required as I can't provide a good guide for putting this guy together (I had to piece him together with some trial and error myself, using my own model as reference. Feel free to use it for reference yourself, too.
You will need at least half a meter of blue and white fabric for him. I used cuddle fleece. However, you can use whatever you like. You will also need something for his eyes, I used the traditional plastic safety eyes with a felt lining.
I've included two sizes in the download, I used the larger of the two, and printed on regular A4 paper, he comes out about a hand and a half tall and about a hand wide.
I can't provide too much help or support for the process, but you're free to ask me simple questions in DMs or on my Discord server. I can't guarantee I'll have an answer since I'm basically brand new with sewing and pattern making.
Good luck!

I think people are too normal about just how much goes into making things.
I've gone through nearly sixty-six yards of yarn on my project so far. If I stacked myself up, it would take thirty-five mes just to equal that. And that's only after ribbing and two and a half rows of normal single crochet on a project that will be done in five pieces.
There is so much that goes into art. There are so many hours, material, blood, sweat, and tears that go into even the most simple of projects. Once you start realizing this, you start to truly appreciate everything about art.
