On Pokémon TCG Live

Despite Pokémon being one of Nintendo's prime IPs, PTCGL is not available on the Switch.

Despite being structured as a three-currency gacha, there is no way to purchase in-game currency. Instead, you have to purchase foil-wrapped packs of cards in stores, then scan the QR code packaged with the cards, in order to get more in-game currency than the game doles out to you for playing. This is a good thing, because it puts friction in the whale transaction.

It is very easy to spend as many hours as you have playing this game.

There are better uses of my time.

one thing i like abt ptcgi is the game giving you the new ex cards and some older yet strong cards from the swsh era. ptcgo gave u the basic red, green, and blue decks and shrugged at u lmao

Tried ptcgl for 5 games, and I can safely say that I am not touching it again until there is a massive optimization overhaul. Only one of those 5 was I able to play almost normally, with massive latency spikes in between actions. The cards would not load at the beginning of the match, so I didn’t even know what I was placing on my active/bench until I could see the HP and type to be able to guess. I didn’t know what I was playing on my first two turns, making the game unplayable. The final nail in the coffin was when I literally just quick balled and the game became unresponsive. My phone isn’t terrible, either. It has 2 GB of ram, which is on the low end of current phones, so the lack of loading for the cards, while it’s avoidable by me, I don’t want to spend the money to upgrade when this phone works perfectly fine. I can play Fortnite, genshin impact, and several other high-demand games without framedrops, but oh no, it’s unreasonable for my phone to be asked to play a fucking CARD GAME. Ptcgo was and is a better game, and until direwolf handholds them through the process of optimizing code, I don’t plan on playing this game anytime soon.

so i got the email about joining the Pokemon TCG Live beta which means transferring my PTCGO data over and i’m still so irrationally mad about them just saying fuck you to the HGSS sets like that era was so special to me and was what really got me heavily into the TCG so i’m upset all my digital cards are just gone (ESPECIALLY MY LEGEND CARDS LIKE HELLO????) i just don’t understand why they’re getting rid of them those are legacy cards ??? it’s also just going to be such a pain to migrate all my stuff over like why are you capping cards at 4 copies each for transferring ?? at this point i would have rather them keep the PTCGO as is like it works great!! fucking mad as hell

there was just something so special to me about being able to buy digital packs of the HGSS era cards that was so nostalgic to me, even though we are so far removed from that era of the TCG irl it was nice to be able to grow that collection digitalally
