Photos from the series Ornitografies ("Ornitographies") by the Catalan photographer Xavi Bou.
He works with chronophotography, the technique of capturing many different moments of the same movement. In these photos, you can see the movement of birds.
Xavi Bou's work has often revolved around birds. He has loved observing birds and nature since he was a child. About this series, he says: "The objective of this project is to call people to look up and enjoy the show that luckily we still have around us."

Photos by @xavibou. Xavi Bou's "Ornithographies" focus on birds, capturing in a single time frame, the shapes they generate when flying, making visible the invisible. The series was inspired out of concern for capturing those unnoticed moments and from the interest in questioning the limits of human perception. Ornitographies is a balance between art and science; a nature-based dissemination project and a visual poetry exercise but above all, an invitation to perceive the world with the same curious and innocent look of the child we once were. The works here are: Ornithography #128 Ornithography #247 Ornithography #221 Ornithography #169 I created @vital.impacts last year as a platform to inspire curiosity and wonder and as a way to give back to the people protecting our beautiful planet. I hope you will spend some time exploring the work of the extraordinary photographers in our Winter Collection. #vitalimpacts #environmental #conservation #birds #flight #ornithography #birdsinflight #ornithologie #ornitologia #ornithology https://www.instagram.com/p/ClzeNohMTbC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Ornitography - Inspired by @xavibou This type of images is not new, it's almost same as chronophotography, where one image created by syncing multiple photos(yes, there is a difference between image and photo). It could be a pattern, movement or flight, and the goal is to show them in a single image.
Art and science walk hand in hand to create images, which are no longer a single portrait of reality but become a witness of the instants that, for a moment, were past, present and future all at once.
The term 'Ornitography' named by Xavi Bou. It is a Greek word. Greek ornitho- (“bird”) and graphe (“drawing”).
I spent a full afternoon to create this single image. I will explore it in depth and share more details about this bird flight path technique.

Xavi Bou, Ornatographies http://www.xavibou.com/index.php/project/ornitographies/
Xavi Bou focuses on birds, his great passion, and attempts to capture the shapes they generate when flying in a single frame, making the invisible visible.
By combining a series of photographs taken in succession, Spanish photographer Xavi Bou creates one flowing image of birds flying in a singular motion. Unlike other motion analysis which preceded it, Ornitographies moves away from the scientific approach of chronophotography used by photographers like Eadweard Muybridge and Etienne-Jules Marey. "It is the balance between art and science," he explains, "a project of naturalist discovery, and, at the same time, an exercise of visual poetry."

Ornitographies by Xavi Bou
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ORNITOGRAPHIES ARISES FROM THE AUTHOR’S CONCERN FOR CAPTURING THOSE UNNOTICED MOMENTS AND FROM THE INTEREST IN QUESTIONING THE LIMITS OF HUMAN PERCEPTION.
Xavi Bou focuses on birds, his great passion, in order to capture in a single time frame, the shapes they generate when flying, making visible the invisible.
Unlike other motion analyses which preceded it, Ornitographies moves away from the scientific approach of chronophotography used by photographers like Eadweard Muybridge and Etienne-Jules Marey.
The approach used by Xavi Bou to portray the scene is not invasive; moreover, it rejects the distant study, resulting in organic form images that stimulate the imagination.
TECHNOLOGY, SCIENCE, AND CREATIVITY COMBINE TO CREATE EVOCATIVE IMAGES WHICH SHOW THE SENSUALITY AND BEAUTY OF THE BIRD’S MOVEMENTS AND WHICH ARE, AT THE SAME TIME, CLUES FOR THOSE WISHING TO IDENTIFY OR RECOGNIZE THEM.
In Ornitographies, the skill envied by men, the long-lasting shared yearning of flying, is presented to us, extending our visual perception.
Art and science walk hand in hand to create images, which are no longer a single portrait of reality but become a witness of the instants that, for a moment, were past, present, and future all at once.
