Thank you! Jesper's one of those characters that I love more and more every time I draw him. Same with Matthias whenever I have the chance to doodle. Unlike Kaz and Inej, whose expressions I already amp up a bit more than canon, Jes lets me do some bold expression work like the comics I'm inspired by. Thought I'd take this opportunity to share some design notes.

Hair and freckles - Both a callback to Jordie. Jesper and Jordie don't have the same hair texture, but as you'll see on the next set of pages (working on them finally!), they have the same hair part, which is opposite to Kaz's. I love a good moles and freckles character design dynamic.

Earrings - Little Kaelish worldbuilding thing. If I ever get to drawing Colm and Pekka Rollins, they'll have earrings too. Simple small gold hoops or studs.

Vest - I like adding dark side paneling to all his vests. Jesper's described as tall and skinny, and that panel alters his silhouette to accentuate that. I also don't add a lapel to his vests like I do with Kaz's, and that's just to make him look more like a cowboy.

Revolvers - I've got to solidify the designs for his guns at some point. All I got so far is that they're pearl and gold with jurda blossom filigree.

Boots - Cowboy boots with a heel! Regular dress shoes seemed more like university Jesper than Barrel Jesper. I already draw Kaz shorter than his canon height, but the heels also add to that difference.

THE NEXT DAY

"Fuck" You groaned. It was barely 10:30 in the morning, and the moment you finished brushing your teeth, she pounced on you. The sound of slapping skin and the background noise of HGTV echoed throughout the room. You thought she would have woken up with regrets because of last night but to your surprise, it was the opposite. 

Your hands gripped her cheeks as you helped her continue to bounce. Jenna's head was thrown back, gasps and curses spilling from her mouth. She pushed your black tank top up your torso to reveal your abs. She needed something to keep her grounded in reality. Her nails scratched down your abs as she bounced harder.

“Jah…I’m about…to cum” Jenna gasped and her walls fluttered around you.

"Me too baby" You bit your lip. Your hands moved from her cheeks and traveled up to her breasts. You roughly squeezed them in your hands and after a few more bounces, Jenna choked on her moan and her hips stuttered.

At the sight of her reaching her orgasm, you hissed and you shot your load into the condom. Jenna collapsed onto you, out of breath.

"What happened to just being besties?" You teased the actress.

"I'm pregnant and full of hormones. My needs need to be satisfied. They're not going to be satisfied by someone else" Jenna said.

Jenna let out a loud laugh as she sat up and slowly removed you from inside her. Your dick proudly falls against your stomach. You got up from your bed and went into your bathroom to start the shower. 

Jenna grabbed her phone from your nightstand. She opened the phone and was immediately hit with tons of messages. Some from friends just checking in. Some from Nancy reminding her about upcoming shoots. Some from Hudson. The last bunch comes from her mother.

As Jenna read the name, her heart dropped. Cornelio was the big boss of her team, he's the one who started Jenna in the acting business when she was a kid. She was so lost in her phone that she didn't even see you sneak next to her. That was until you scooped her up, startling her.

You laughed as a shriek fell from her lips, "You passing up the opportunity to shower with me."

“I would never” Jenna smirked and tossed her phone on the bed. You then sprinted to the bathroom, laughs and giggles sounding throughout the apartment.

You spend the next three hours on stream, reacting to different YouTube videos, your Reddit, and for the last hour raging on 2K and Call of Duty.

You were sitting on your couch watching TV, until your buzzer to your apartment went off. At first, you ignored it thinking that it’s probably just the delivery man trying to get in. But it kept going off so you just got up and buzzed whoever in. You were just chilling on couch again until a knock is heard on your door. You furrow your face in confusion. You went to the door and looked through the peephole and saw your mother.

You opened the door, “Ma?”

Your mother Delyse or ‘Del’ as she liked to be called smiled and walked into your apartment, “I don’t know why I had this feeling like I should be here.”

“Right now?” You questioned.

“Actually, I felt it a couple of months ago but I brushed it off. But when I came back, the need felt stronger than ever. Are you okay?” Del asked concerned.

“I’m good Ma. How was Jamaica?” You asked steering the conversation off you.

“Wonderful. Your Gigi was asking about you, she’s upset that you didn’t come down” Del said and sat down on your couch.

“I’ll try to visit her later this year. I was busy streaming and making videos” You replied to her.

Del just hummed in response. You grabbed your phone and saw a text message from Jenna.

Hollywood 🤰🏻: I finished early. Thank god. You want something to eat?

NYC 🩵: nah…but my mother is here.

You watched as the text bubbles appeared and then disappeared several times before it disappeared completely.

Obviously, you didn’t expect her. You and Jenna wanted to go over ideas for how you wanted to tell her but all of that is out the window now.

“So…you out here hoeing around” Del questioned nonchalantly.

That made you choke on your spit, “Ma what the hell kind of question is that?”

“I’m just asking. Do as you please but be safe and don’t get any girl pregnant” Del said.

You chuckle nervously and turned your attention to your TV. You text Jenna a couple of more times. You and your mother continue to converse between each other until your phone starts ringing.

“Hello?” You answer.

“Can you uh…come open the door?” Jenna asked. She sounded a little out of breath.

“Just hit the buzzer for my apartment” You said.

“I need your help with something. Come down” Jenna stated. You agreed and put your hoodie and slides on.

“I’ll be back” You told your mother and left your apartment. You went to the first floor and saw Jenna struggling with some flowers.

“Damn girl, you brought every single flower in the world?” You chuckled.

Jenna giggled, “I don’t know what kind of flowers she likes so I got one of each.”

“So sweet of you. Future reference she likes orchids” You told her and took the big bouquet from her hands. You two went back up to your apartment and before you can even open your door, your mother opens it for you.

“Oh who’s this Tuffie?” Del questioned as you walked inside your apartment.

You sigh at the nickname, “Ma, this is Jenna, my girlfriend.”

You watched as your mother gave Jenna a look up and down. You felt Jenna squeeze your hand. A moment of silence goes by before a smile grows on Del’s face.

“It’s nice to meet you Jenna. You look familiar though” Del said.

“She’s an actress. We met at one of her movie premieres. The scary movie Davis was in” You said.

“Oh! That movie with the long mouth mask” Del said.

“Yeah Scream Ma” You chuckled. You set the slightly heavy flowers on your counter by her purse, “Jenna also got you these.”

“Oh thank you so much dear. I haven’t received flowers in a long time” Del gushed and smelled the flowers.

You and Jenna look at each other, “Ma, we gotta tell you something. Now, before we say it, I just want you to know that we both know what we’re getting into and-”

“You’re pregnant” Del said casually towards Jenna.

“I…I…how?” You questioned.

“Baggy clothing. Slight weight gain in the face. Come on I see all the signs, I mean I did birth two children.” Del stated.

Your mother sat down in one of your dining room chairs, “I thought I told you be careful Jah. You’re still young, both of you. You still have lives to live before being tied down with a child. A child is a lot of responsibility. Once that baby is brought into this world, it’s not just going to be you and her, it’s going to be you, her, and the child you share together.”

This time Jenna stepped up, "Uh...Mrs. Jimenez I know it's a bit unconventional, we're both still very young, and we're not even together-"

"First it's Reid and second...the two of you aren't together?" Delyse questioned. 

You and Jenna both looked at each other before Jenna spoke up, "Well...no it's a bit complicated. But truthfully, there's no other person I would want to share a child with. We know there are going to be some changes in the way we live our lives. Every decision we make, we have to do with a child in mind but I'm ready to make those changes. We are ready."

You nodded along with Jenna. You saw your mother look between the two of you with curious eyes.

"Even though I feel the way I feel. I wish you would have gotten married first or at least be together but I'm going to support the two of you in all ways possible" Del smiled and hugged the both of you.

You were glad that was out of the way. Your mother supported you, even though she wished it was done differently. She can't change the past, only help the present and look forward to the future. Now, you just need Jenna's family on the same page and it'll make things 10x better.

For the next two hours, your mother and Jenna converse amongst each other. You fell asleep on the couch, hands resting in your pants.

Del took Jenna onto your fire escape to talk more. She had a glass of wine in her hand while Jenna had apple juice.

“How did your mom take it?” Del asked and took a sip of her wine.

“Well, I was originally planning on telling her when I visited her next week but someone told her without my consent. She didn’t really take it well” Jenna sighed.

“What did she say, if you don’t mind me asking?” Del asked carefully.

“I kinda haven’t been answering her calls. I’m scared of what she has to say” Jenna stated and played with her fingers nervously.

"Honey, let me tell you something. No matter what your mother says or how she feels, it won't take away the fact she will always love you. You can be the worst possible person in the world and she will still love you. A bond between a good mother and her children, especially daughters is something so special and precious. You'll understand soon enough" Del said.

Jenna smirked at her, “You betting on us having a girl?”

“Oh I know it’s a girl. Girls run strong in this family” Del smiled.

Jenna softly chuckled at that. The two woman sit in a comfortable silence basking in the NYC polluted air and police sirens from every direction. Jenna’s eyes then flickered to her phone and her mind starts racing.

She missed hearing from her family. She knew the longer she avoided them, the worse it’ll be for her. So she grabbed her phone and excused herself. She went back inside and went into your room for some privacy. She gathered all the contacts she needed for a group FaceTime but before she can hit the green button. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath in.

“Relax Jenna” She muttered to herself and hit the green button.

It ranged for two seconds before each person answered the phone. Her sisters Mia, Aliyah, and Mariah, her brothers Issac and Markus, and finally her parents Natalie and Edward.

“Thank goodness, we were getting worried sick about you Jenna” Natalie said.

“Yeah, why haven’t you been returning our calls and messages” Edward asked.

Jenna sighed, "I need to get something off my chest first before everyone starts interrogating me. Yes, I am pregnant and yes I am keeping the baby. I know I'm young and my career is just taking off but I don't care about that stuff. All I care about is the person I share my child with, my unborn child, and my family. A family I hope still supports me."

Everyone except Natalie’s face was a look of shocked.

“Sweetie, why wouldn’t we still support you? We’re a bit disappointed but we would never leave you unsupported. We love you Jenna and we’re going to be here every step of the way” Natalie stated.

Tears start to gather in Jenna’s eyes. She was relieved that the pressure of telling your families were lifted. She was more ecstatic to hear that they will support the two of you with no problem.

“WE GONNA BE AUNTIES AND UNCLES” Aliyah screamed excitedly. Jenna laughed at her younger sister

"Are we going to meet the other parent anytime soon? Who is it by the way?" Mia asked.

“Her name is Jahaziel, she goes by Jah. We met at the Scream premiere earlier this year. She’s a YouTube/Twitch streamer” Jenna answered.

“No way JahBronxGamer! I watch all her streams and videos, I’m a huge fan of her. She makes me want to move to The Bronx. I just watched her stream earlier today” Markus commented.

“I’ll be sure to tell her that” Jenna replied with a smile.

Jenna spoke with her family a little more until one by one her siblings all left, promising to catch up more next week.

“I was scared to face you, that’s why I didn’t answer you guys.” Jenna revealed to her parents.

“Jenna, don’t ever be afraid to come talk to us. Despite the circumstances, we will always love and support you. Don’t ever forget that” Natalie stressed.

The tears start to fall down Jenna’s face, “Okay” she sniffled. She wiped the tears from her face.

“So…this partner treating you right?” Edward questioned.

"Technically, we aren't together but I feel things for her way more than I did Wesley. I just need to work out some stuff within me first before I get into another relationship." Jenna smiled wide at the thought of you.

Natalie and Edward look at each other before looking back at Jenna with a smile, "Well, we're happy you can acknowledge something like that and we can't wait to meet her."

Chica likes to try and start prank wars with Roxy but whenever she's been got, Roxy just fucking trumps her with the most over the top mousetrap style contraption ever and the best Chica can retaliate with is drawing a massive dick on the wall of Roxy's room. Like Freddy, Roxy is also pretty big on parallel play as well as every other type of play, so the two also have spent many a night vibing in one of their rooms or Roxy's garage with Roxy playing some sort of game or working on fixing something while Chica talks nonstop for like three hours or practices her guitar or something. They have the occasional playfight but they usually settle their differences with a game of Uno... which yeah, solves the problem technically but it also starts an all out war so really, it's not doing them any favours.

As siblings? Hm okay gonna be honest, I haven't played with that idea as much but it would be much the same as their friendship except with less boundaries. Chica will just randomly burst into Roxy's room out of nowhere and never leave ever again. Roxy's room is Chica's room and Chica's room is Roxy's room. Oh my god don't ever let them play Monopoly. As general family, they can be much sweeter than that though. They vibe and bounce off each other really well and can typically tell when the other one is having a hard time a mile off. They share pretty much everything and will do the odd little thing for each other if the opportunity presents itself, and of course they're ride or die for each other. Chica would kill for Roxy and Roxy would heavily intimidate and maybe throw a few punches for Chica, whatever's necessary.

As romantic partners, the sweetness is amped up but also so is the nonsense. I like to think that Chica, knowing that Roxy loves attention and big grand gestures, tries really hard to ask her out in just as big and flashy a gesture as Roxy typically admires. And on the flip side, if Roxy does try and ask Chica out, she knows that Chica prefers the smaller, more personal ways to ask someone something important like that and thus, tries to ask her out like that. Which means you could easily have Chica get cold feet and back out of asking Roxy out because her idea was big or grand enough for her, and Roxy showing up afterwards with a bowl of love heart sweets that all read 'DATE ME' on them and sits there with her until the penny drops and they're a thing. I may have planned for that to be a thing in a fic but that's neither here or there, it's sugary sweet okay? They were both wrong anyway. Roxy talks about hijacking shows to show someone you love them but she honestly implodes on the spot every single time Chica does something small like drawing a picture for her or replacing the stickers on the windows the staff keep cleaning off so Roxy can see there's a wall there. Chica is the opposite, always talking about the little things but the moment Roxy performs a love song for her, in front of all of their friends, Chica is on cloud nine.

In terms of their chaos amping up? Chica made titty shaped chocolate for her one Valentines and Roxy wrote 'I ♥ Chica' in literal fire. Date night? It's fucking roulette. Are they gonna watch a movie together or are they going to add another six pages to the rule book and break a hole in the wall? Who knows! Not them! It always ends on sweet and soft cuddles though. The amount of physical affection only increased when they got together and now they're practically joined at the hip. They're so in love too! Roxy's tail just wagging constantly when they're together and Chica's eyes going heart shaped whenever she zones out thinking about her... they could be so sweet!

And now the reverse. Oh boy the reverse. Listen, these two? At each other's throats? All the time? The only time they're in the same room with each other is during rehearsals, group photoshoots with kids or when on stage together. Believe me, you do not want to get between these two when they're fighting. A truce?? From these two?? Incredibly rare. They've done it maybe twice ever and only in the most dire of situations. Left unattended, they will rip each other to shreds. Roxy will be pissed off about it for like a month and many of staffbots will die to her over it while Chica will just rant and rave the moment someone mentions Roxy's name in her presence for a while. One of the big things they fight over? Well, their animal bases have very different ways of treating people. Roxy being on the side of 'look out for your pack' and Chica being on the side of 'know your place'. Yeah it doesn't end well very often. Chica comparing her to Foxy and invading Roxy's space on purpose when she knows it stresses her out and makes her mad while Roxy has fun sabotaging the music players in Mazercise to piss her off and getting Mapbot to haunt her for weeks at a time. Getting them to get along is Bonnie's life work and it's not going very well. They were on the same team in Fazerblast once and they currently hold the joint record for most points lost to friendly fire. They both have some S tier roasts though. They can absolutely obliterate each other whenever they get the chance.

They have so much potential!! They could be funny besties or they could be madly in love or chaotic siblings or lifelong enemies! They're very versatile! I love them!

I wrote this (well, a short version of this) for school a few years ago and thought it could be a good fic. It is about Steve as a ghost, but I don't think it is very scary.

Warnings: Swearing, haunting, mention of a ghost.

Part one: The arrival.

Student exchange, in my fifteen years old head, the word means freedom: Getting away from my hometown. And when you are a boy from Saint-Ludger-De-Milot getting away is a serious thing (Check on a map, you'll get it). The government fund agency advertisement said "A friend from the other side of the country, the ocean or even the world" so I jumped on the opportunity. Usually I am not great with new people, but when I let go of my bad will, it goes well.

But when I saw the address I would be sent to I jumped off my my seat: 44 Old Church Street, London, last house of guitarist Steve Clark!

Oh, and I am matched with a girl called Madeline Rogers, they got us together for our "Great interest in music, history and academic subjects", I guess I'll see how it goes.

Madeline unlocks the door as I stand in front of her house with my suitcase in my left hand, my amp in the right one and my guitar case on my back. A beautiful building indeed, bricks on all of its exterior walls (well, the ones I can see), nice arches over the door and ground floor windows, the white cornice also enhance the brownish red walls and I like how the higher floors' windows are shaped, like an half of an octagon, I would say.

God, I didn't realize my mom's home decoration and architecture magazines got that much into my head...

The inside is just as wonderful, the Rodgers seem to have been willing to preserve its ancient style, furnishing it mostly with wooden antiques, but still managed to avoid any heaviness.

-My mum is a home designer. Madeline informs me when she catches my admirative look.

-Well, I'm sure she's very good at it, from what I see here.

-Thank you. You can go put your stuff upstairs if you want, I'll show you around. She offers as her father enters the house. Follow me. She says as she walks toward the u-shaped staircase, making the floor crack at every step. I love this place already.

-Down there is the kitchen and dining room. She points at a row of stairs leading to the basement. On every floor, there is a toilet at the end of the staircase, she says as we pass by a door and begin to walk upstairs.

-My parents' room is the one facing the street, the other one is my mother's office. She indicates as we pass shortly on the first floor.

-Here we are! She exclaims as we arrive at the top of the stairs, this is the guests' room, your room in other words. I'll be downstairs if you need me!

There are two doors, the one she stated to be mine and another one, probably leading to her bedroom.

There is a wooden desk under the window, from there I can see the tiniest backyard I ever looked upon, on the opposite side of the room, there is an assorted dresser, I put my guitar on it, since I couldn't bring the stand with me, in the drawers underneath it, I placed most of my clothes, excepted for my white shirt and tie, which I hung one of the wardrobes on each side of the bed to keep the shirt from wrinkling.

There is a little lamp hanging from the wall behind the bed, you know, the kind with a little chain to turn the light on and off. As I sit on the bed, I can't help but think that my reflection in the stand up mirror across thr room would make a nice painting, if someone had enough time to waste at painting me.

-Antoine, the diner is ready. I hear Madeline's voice through the door.

I follow her again, this time on the opposite direction.

We all sit together at the table in front of our plates of curry, first time I eat that, it is very... Yellow. A sharp contrast with the room we are in: Very few natural light pass by those small window, leaving it all to the luminaire hanging above the table to light the whole room. There is an opening leading to the stairs behind me, two doors on the wall on my right, to get in the kitchen and another one on the wall on my left, probably some pantry...

-It's the drinks cabinet, but don't go there, it's haunted. Mr. Rodgers jokes, causing his whole family to laugh.

Steve?

-The former owner wanted to sell the house because he thought there was a ghost! Apparently "someone" was finishing his bottles. If you want my advice he just didn't remember doing it himself... Madeline's mother explains.

-And, did you experience... Weird stuff?

-Sometimes we hear noises, like footsteps, and a sound... like a long squeaking, but it is a fairly old building, so it is probably structural rather than spectral.

-It would make sense... I mumble.

-Looks like you scared our guest, Nathaly. Her husband chuckles.

Midnight, yet my silly brain thinks it is something like seven o'clock... Everyone else went to bed at 9:30, so what was I supposed supposed to do? I stopped playing my guitar one hour ago and now I just lay here thinking about Steve. It is weird to think that I stay in the same house as he lived. Yes, lived, because he lived here before dying here. Forget it, that sounded much better in my head.

Still, the idea of his ghost driving the previous owner out of the house is quite amusing.

Footsteps, right by the bed, boots on the hardwood floor. No, it can't be real...

I don't think I could move if I wanted to, I'm way too freaked out.

I can't really see in the dark room but the noise seems to stop by the dresser then... It's something else... It keeps getting to a higher and higher sound, and louder, I feel like my ears are about to explode.

-Fuck! I exclaim as I finally snap out of my fear and sit up to turn on the light, but there's nothing, no one. Just my guitar case wide open although I closed it when I stopped playing.

This is definitely going to help me to sleep...

Eleven o'clock on the clock on the nightstand and six in my head, not so bad of a time to wake up actually. I turn around and see my guitar proped up against the dresser, wait, wasn't it in its case... Heck, I remember last night!

I jump on my feet and inspect the instrument, everything is perfectly normal, then I take a look at the furniture only to find all my picks disposed to spell Hello on top of it.

-It has to be some bad joke... I whisper.

No, the picks now write, moving around like it was someone placing them.

-... Steve?

-Clark?

YES.

-I... I... I mumble uselessly.

I see the guitar being carefully placed back against the dresser, then the picks start to move again.

One of them floats up to me, then just waits there until I hold my hand up for it to be dropped in my palm.

-So... I just have to put it on the glass?

-Holly shit! I exclaim as a hand follows the fingers, along with an arm.

Soon enough, a foot steps out of the mirror and I let go of the pick, him now being able to get out by himself.

Long blond hair, a leather jacket over some white t-shirt and black jeans covering the upper part of a pair of boots, no doubt about it: I did really bring Steve Clark back from the grave.

Eron bridged his body backwards into a graceful arch to avoid the hit! He then pushed his feet back and wrapped them around Brandy’s neck. The crowd cheered, however, Brandy wasn’t planning on letting the headscissors get started. 

“Let go, bitch!” She yelled before swinging her leg back before slamming it forward! Allowing her boots to make contact with Eron’s temple! Eron fell forward onto his back, his legs detangling from Brandy’s body, and the girl grinned as she ran towards the ropes. She jumped forward to do a springboard off the middle ones! Slamming her body down onto Eron’s in a beautiful springboard moonsault, she attempted to go for another pin!

THR-KICKOUT! 

A close call, but Eron was able to shake off the dizziness and summon the strength to kick out once more. Growling, Brandy grabbed Eron by his hair and dragged him up. However, she suddenly found her arms flung off of him. He span around and caught her stomach with a harsh backkick which had her doubling over. He then slammed his boot into her shoulder causing her to push her body back in normal position before hitting her with a harsh clothesline! The crowd cheered as Eron seemed to be getting more amped up. And as Brandy rose up? Eron ran towards the ropes. He did a front flip forward so his legs could springboard off of the ropes. He then did two graceful backflips before jumping into the air. And on the way down, he grabbed onto Brandy’s head so he could deliver a HARSH stunner! Brandy found her body flinging backwards, squirming on the ring in pain. 

Eron took a few seconds to get the crowd amped up. He made his way towards Brandy’s legs and twisted them around his own before he grabbed her and put her in a modified bow and arrow lock! Brandy cried out as her body was stretched. The ref kept asking her if she wanted to tap, and she shook her head and yelled no! She managed to wiggle her way free, and finally saw an opportunity. She grabbed Eron’s legs and put one of her own through them before twisting their bodies around into a sharpshooter! It was her new finisher, The Final Lockdown! 

Now it was Eron’s turn to be in a tough predicament. He has always been a flexible guy. He used to be a gymnast after all. But even this was pushing it! And with the sharpshooter and muta lock combination locked in? It definitely made it hard for him to crawl towards the ropes. In the end? Eron couldn’t take it anymore! And he found himself slamming his hands down on the ring as he tapped out!

“Do whatever makes you happy,” The line we often tell others. Maybe it comes from a good place, such as knowing your friend is worn out and hasn’t smiled in awhile. But how many problems in the world all come down to at least one person insisting that everyone else should let them do whatever makes them happy?

Goodness far exceeds happiness as a value. When the opposite attempts to be true—if we live in a society that makes the pursuit of happiness its national creed (system of belief)—we get an “opposite” society. And if we let the people we care about head off in this “opposite” direction because we’re afraid of saying something they don’t want to hear, we miss an opportunity to speak out on something they need to hear.

Prayer: Lord, there are so many advertisements and ideas in the world that tell us what we “deserve.” Show me what the healthier perspective is, and then help me show it to others.

Why wouldn’t we want our loved ones to feel good and get what they want? You actually already know the answer: Our motives to encourage our friends or not be intrusive may seem productive, yet blindly cheerleading them or pulling back does very little for someone who is running in the wrong direction. You may have to step on their toes to point this out, but in doing so, you anchor them down versus letting them run off a cliff.

TX Comptroller Adds Five More Companies to State's Divestment List

The list of firms that are forbidden from doing business with certain Texas governmental entities was expanded this week. Texas state Comptroller Glenn Hegar has added an additional five companies to that divestment list. The fifteen firms on that list have been accused by Hegar of discriminating against the oil and gas industry. Why it matters In 2021, Texas passed a law that bars certain governmental entities from engaging in businesses accused of boycotting oil and gas companies. The oil and gas industry remains a vital component of the Texas economy. Key players in the financial sector have been accused of trying to deny lending and investment to so-called “fossil fuel” firms. While states like New York have moved to divest from fossil fuel investment, Texas has gone in the opposite direction. Under the Lone Star State’s divestment plan, companies that seek to disengage from oil and gas investment can be denied the opportunity to manage state retirement funds. Other states like Kentucky have passed similar laws. The five companies added this week include Rathbone Investment Management, Credit Agricole SA, Societe Generale SA, AMP Ltd., and Impax Asset Management Group. That brings the total number of companies on the divestment list to fifteen. Hegar’s statement on the additions to the divestment list Hagar explained his strategy in a statement on the Comptroller’s website: “My goal has been to create a more open, honest, and transparent conversation. I wanted to end the doublespeak by so many companies and show the critical impact that fossil fuels have on our daily lives. As Wolfgang Van Halen discussed in a recent conversation with The Messenger, he has his sights firmly set on the present, specifically a new album and tour dates featuring his solo band Mammoth WVH.

But with the Van Halen name comes endless drama. The band's well-established dysfunction didn't cease with the 2020 death of Eddie, the iconic shredder and Wolfgang's father; ever since, there has been nonstop chatter and bickering around the idea of a tribute show or tour, which bubbled up again last month when Sammy Hagar said that Alex Van Halen won't return his calls and that there's "no way" David Lee Roth would work with him.

For his part, Wolfgang simply says, "I view me just being alive and being in the music business as a tribute to my father every day."

Elaborating, he gave his candid take on the tribute-show rumors and discussed how playing Van Halen songs at last year's shows honoring late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins gave him a chance to honor his father's legacy.

THE IDEA OF A TRIBUTE TO YOUR DAD KEEPS COMING UP. DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHY IT REMAINS SUCH AN ACTIVE CONVERSATION?

It's out of love and how many people my father's writing and playing touched around the world. But life isn't written to have a happy ending — some things just suck. And if I have to figure out how to have a life without my father in it, I think people can figure out how to live without Van Halen, because it can't happen. Dad's not here, Van Halen doesn't exist anymore as far as I'm concerned. The music and the legacy are there, and I'll be here to push that forth, through things like dad's guitar and amp company, and help in every single way.

The unfortunate thing in comparison to what Dave Grohl was able to pull off with the Taylor Hawkins tribute, is that the Foo Fighters have a very friendly thing going on. There wasn't a lot of animosity between members to get it done and Van Halen is quite the opposite. I don't know, maybe it's just '80s bands — there's something about '80s bands where it was the cool thing to be dicks. But some things just don't work out and it seems like this is one of them.

DID PLAYING IN THOSE TAYLOR SHOWS CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE AT ALL ABOUT THE IDEA OF TRIBUTE EVENTS?

Luckily, I feel like I was able to get that feeling from the Taylor thing, which is why I played Van Halen songs and that's not something I take lightly. It felt like the right thing to do, knowing how impossible it would be to do it as a separate thing. I took that as my opportunity obviously to pay tribute to Taylor, but at the same time pay tribute to my father. And that was it for me and it's over — that was me having that moment and being able to do it myself, outside of all the bullshit that the Van Halen duff gets muddled in with. I think I was able to put that to rest and not say goodbye, because I hate to ever speak in absolutes, but for the foreseeable future, Van Halen is not what I'm focused on in any way.

IS IT FRUSTRATING THAT YOU HAVE TO KEEP DEALING WITH THE SQUABBLING?

Beyond that, it's emotionally difficult for me to hear about it every day. But that's the position I'm in unfortunately, and there's nothing I can do about it. I think Zelda Williams, Robin's daughter, put it in such a beautiful way — on one of the anniversaries of his passing, she said that even a truckload of roses weighs a ton.

I understand that it's all rooted in positivity, but it gets very jarring, and it wears you out. I can't go online or do anything without somebody reminding me "Hey, knock, knock, your dad's dead. Do you miss him?" I feel like unless you're in this position, nobody really understands it. You can empathize with it, but it's very tough to relate to.
