don't wanna be buzzkill, but..Don't you think that Armand in the show is overly sexualized? Even outside the context of his past. In season 1 he has little screen time, but almost all his scenes are sexually charged? The taste of "Rashid", Daniel's questions about whether he and Louis have sex, "rent boy".

In season 2, I have no questions about his past (it's canon and an important part of his story), but revealing the character's trauma through his BDSM relationship with Louis also seems like a questionable idea. This has clearly sparked debate.

But I understand being uncomfortable about how amc handles Armand considering how triggering and difficult his whole backstory is. Since everyone else is posting it, if it isn't obvious, my portrayal of Angel is specifically gay. However, that does not mean he is only after dick because he's progressive okay. okay I'll get to angel in a second but I feel like no one really talks about how BPD coded blitz is? He's actually quite relatable for me. He suffers from extreme self loathing, self destructive behaviour, unstable relationships, splitting, obsession with FPs (millie and moxie), impulsive spending, isolating himself, anger outbursts... and especially in apology tour (but also earlier episodes if you ever allow me to yap) we see how this pattern is something he isn't actively choosing and that he actually really wants to get away from. I know most of his character traits and behaviours are for the sake of comedy which is why making a deep character analysis is always a bit tricky in this case but I just think he is so bpd coded and I hope they give him a good healing/self discovery arc in the rest of the series.

I was reading some of your old posts and I have to say what you said about people who are non straight or cis having to work overtime to learn the cues to fit into that world as well as creating their own language resonated with me even tho I'm aroace so I don't fit into either world it's to the point I feel like an alien a lot of the time around everyone. I know what post you're talking about, and yes, when I was writing I had in mind the experience of growing up being attracted to girls and dating girls for most of my life. But it really isn't limited to that.

I've had other situations in my life that were not related to sexuality at all where I've also had to rearrange my vocabulary and lie, essentially, to make it look like what I was going through was "normal", not because it was such an anomaly but because people around me wouldn't have understood what was going on, and I didn't really have a support system made of people who I could talk to about it. Last year, I went to see a therapist for the first time in my life and I finally talked about it, and it was good. I cried the whole hour, and she cried with me, but her advice actually changed my whole year from that moment on, and I've been better. There's still a lot to work on, but you know, rome wasn't built in a day and all that.

Unfortunately, there is a hyperfocus on sex and dating, and everything in between. It's a cultural thing, it's fed nonstop from every industry and social classes. It's almost like the fight for sex liberation actually turned into something that's at times grotesque and unnecessary. I'm not aro or ace, but I frequently also find myself overstimulated and tired of all the sex talk and the hypersexualization of the most trivial stuff, stuff that really isn't about sex like when people post photos of men's arms with the veins showing and talk about it like it's super hot. Bitch it's just AN ARM 😭 I've found out it's mentally healthy to laugh about some of the stuff you see out there, too. It's all so ridiculous that at some point it's healthy to make fun of it all.

So, yeah. I can't say that it's going to get better because if it's up to the people out there, everyone's just looking out for themselves and their need to practice their own freedom of speech and also just millions of people literally living out their fantasies on the internet, which is embarrassing to watch a lot of times.

I think there are ways that you can make it better for yourself. I'm not saying you haven't tried or anything, because I'm sure you have. But I'm saying to not stop trying because there's space for you out there. As you grow older people stop being so much in your business, too. So it will get easier, I can assure you. It will get easier to just avoid certain conversations, or to find people with whom you'll be able to have the conversations you want to have. Internet is great, in that sense, but I can assure you you'll find your people in real life, too.

I also think that you don't have to try that hard to understand everyone else. Just don't try. You don't get it, and you just don't. I don't know if you've talked about it with your friends, but if you were to tell them how you feel, they will care about your feelings if they really love you.

You don't understand the way they feel, and maybe they won't understand you either, and I can't stress enough how OKAY that is. It's okay to not understand people or some situations; but respect is important. You don't have to understand and make sense of the way they relate to other people, to love them. I think in this case, it's okay to just love them or like them or want to spend time with them and keep being friends, without actually being able to put yourself in their shoes, you know? They most likely will be absolutely incapable of putting themselves in your shoes, but as long as they can respect You and respect your boundaries, a healthy friendship is possible.

If there's one thing I really want to say with this, is that it's okay to not understand them. And it's okay that they don't understand you either.

I never expected straight women to understand that I love girls, because I frankly, honestly, just don't understand NOT loving women. Or the way I don't understand religious people at all, and there's plenty in my family and I grew up surrounded by it and it's always been a very important theme in my life, but I still just don't get religious people.

But I know it's always going to be like that. I could never ask people to change their whole brain process and be like "sure girls I get why lesbianism is so great", because I know I would never be able to change my brain for them either. All I want is to be respected and acknowledged as a real person. Personally, as long as I have that, I can have a nice relationship with anyone.

There's also the internet where you can find more people who feel the way you do, and maybe exchange with them tips or advice on how to work through a healthy social life without losing your self in the process. I know you can do it.

As isolating as it is, I know that you're strong enough to live through it and not only survive but also have a good, fulfilling life. There's plenty of people, billions literally who live without a partner or just without experiencing romantic love or sexual attraction and it really is more than okay to live like that. I've always thought having friends or a comfortable relationship with your family is enough to live a good life. I'm not saying this only to make you feel better but because I really believe it. I encourage you too to think about all the other things you don't understand about people, even if it's just not getting how some are able to do 2436 x 37 in their heads, and you'll probably realize just how much of this world we don't understand AT ALL, and most likely will never understand, but that doesn't prevent us from living through it. We're amazing, really. The human brain is capable of the craziest changes in order to adapt and survive, so I know that you'll be able to do it, too.

Come to think of it, has anyone properly adapted The Great God Pan by Arthur Machen to the screen? If not, here are some ideas (tagging @dagny-hashtaggart and @thatonemushroom here):

First, make Villiers and Clarke female! On one hand I love me an evil woman like Helen Vaughan, and I particularly appreciate her character as an example of a sexually predatory woman who's played for horror (as opposed to either for titillation, or for mean jokes about how "ugly" she is). But on the other hand I would appreciate some more unambiguously heroic female representation to balance the evil out.

Make Villiers and Clarke sexually forward but in a positive way, to clarify that Helen is evil not because she's a slut but because she's a predator. Could sum this up in an exchange during the confrontation at the end, with Helen trying to act friendly toward the heroes like "I've been told you two know how to have fun; that makes three of us" and the heroes retorting "Where's the fun in any of what you've wrought?"

I'm on the fence about whether to keep the Victorian setting. But if not, I'd like to establish that Dr. Raymond is on the CIA's payroll as part of MKULTRA. This would most likely place Helen's birth sometime in the 1950s or '60s, meaning the main story would have to take place no earlier than the '70s.

Updating the setting would also present an opportunity to make the cast more ethnically diverse—though I figure even in the original Victorian setting, it wouldn't feel too out of place for one or both of the heroes to be Romani, or Jewish, or a STEM major visiting Britain from elsewhere in the empire (perhaps the Caribbean, going by the European-sounding names Villiers and Clarke) to study. Of course, considering what I said earlier about giving the heroines a sex life, one would have to be careful not to veer into stereotypes about hypersexual women of color—ideally their sexuality would be framed the same way that a white male character's would be.

I'm also on the fence about how much influence Raymond had on Vaughan when she was growing up. On one hand I don't like the trope of "behind every bitch is a bastard who made her that way"; women are fully capable of committing evil of their own volition. On the other, I do want to avoid the potentially ableist angle of a freakish baby that's born evil, so chalking it up to her upbringing by Raymond could mitigate that. It'd also be thematically appropriate to highlight the parallels between Dr. Raymond violating Mary's consent and Helen Vaughan violating all those men's consent, and it'd illustrate how patriarchy facilitates sexual abuse against both men and women.

How to capture Helen's beautiful but undefinably monstrous appearance? Use Zemeckis-style CGI to place the character firmly in the Uncanny Valley, but leave the other characters normal while Helen is walking around looking like she stepped right out of the 2004 Polar Express movie.

On the other hand, her transformation at the end should use some gory practical effects. Maybe tap the FX department behind the 2016 Canadian horror film The Void to do this scene.

Speaking of The Void, Evan Stern's delivery during the police interrogation at the 45:20 mark (warning: finger torture) is how I imagine Charles Herbert recounting his story to Villiers. Okay, the context is different because Herbert is willingly divulging all this to an old friend without any police brutality necessary. But Stern's panicked tone in this scene (coming at least as much from his previous encounter with an eldritch cult as from the present threat of torture) sounds just right to convey Herbert's trauma. Hell, we could even cast Stern himself (whom Letterkenny fans may recognize as Roald) as Herbert!

The whole "trans women are hated for their association with manhood" take is generally so fucking weird. Okay, transmisogyny requires some additional analysis to understand it, so I get people who think that we are hated for inappropriate association with womanhood first and foremost because of inappropriate part.

But the other way around? What even can make it look this way? terfs use this rhetoric, but it is super evident that most of them are completely insincere about it. But terfs are minority. It's a shitton of them here, but not in the outside world.

Neither do people who write "wonderful" articles about trans women undermining military potential of the nation. OKAY so I mostly just wanna hear others' thoughts lol but my side of things is that the Madonna cover came on the radio and I just started thinking about how bizarre the GCV is? Bizarre on many levels, but in a curious way. Starting with the fact that it was cut but occupies a rather unique, canon-like place in people's minds as far as I can tell. And sure, that's because it was a fully filmed scene and because it's a Santana solo who is, without her big feature, sorely missing from the special.

But like, first off, having Santana sing this. It makes perfect sense and yet it doesn't. Naya nails it because of course she does and, at first glance, the song fits Santana. But that's just it, at first glance. Because Santa Baby is such a horny song about materialism and you know, all the connotations of those two things together. The trophy wife anthem? Maybe, something like that. And Santana is hypersexualized throughout this show with only the occasional self-awareness, but doesn't it feel extra weird to have her sing this to a bunch of salesmen just after having been outed as a lesbian to the state of Ohio?

Oh, and about that, the context of the scene. Many more layers here too because first of all, suspension of disbelief being higher in holiday specials and all but really, Santana singing this diegetically to a bunch of adult salesmen to... get a discount? What is this context. I remember being weirded out when I first watched the scene on youtube. Again, suspension of disbelief and this being Glee after all but this is such a lame excuse for a solo, and not the least bit borderline creepy. Santana's positioned as the one with the power in this situation, as she so often is in sexual situations with men. And make no mistake, this is a sexual situation, just a holiday edition. So she's positioned as having power, but am I supposed to believe the salesmen and the speaking one in particular was so impressed/horny that she was just... given a discount? Rip to me because maybe I'm just too asexual for this but it always came across as so awkward to me. Ngl, maybe the reason it was cut.

And then! And then, the Finn of it all. That Santana spends her free time shopping with Finn, for Rachel. The implications. The way this episode portrays Rachel's materialism as such a negative. The way they try to paint Santana as this shallow bitch, too, and yet she's kind enough to accompany Finn and help out of the goodness of her heart. I feel like I never use that phrase genuinely but no, really, it is out of the goodness of her heart. Santana's doing both halves of Finchel a favour. And, once again, this is just after her outing. You know, the one I'll always hate Finn for. So this buddy buddy scene between Finntana is already weird on that account because whatever IKAG tried to sell us, it's not like these two have ever been Christmas shopping together levels close.

In fact! The Santa Baby scene is arguably the one and only true Finntana friendship scene. The only one that has a strictly platonic context, the only one with just the two of them one-on-one, and crucially the only one where they aren't discussing Finn having outed her in the hallway of a conservative small town's homophobic high school. Finntana have no friendship scenes. Whatever happened ins season 3A, and trust me I'll never forgive never forget, this was the one opportunity to establish an actual Finntana friendship. And it's deleted. And it's in the context of Finchel. But also the context of Santana being a good friend, even to the one person she should, by all means, despise the most.

For the record, I very much doubt any thought was put into this scene. I think the thought process behind it pretty much boiled down to: a) Finn shopping for Rachel scene, and b) haha Santana sexy lady sing Santa Baby! Without much consideration of the incredibly complicated dynamic of Finn and Santana. Because the focus is Finchel, but it'd be cool if Santana sang, and she's materialistic anyway so this works out. And she's weaponized her sexuality to gain an advantage before so this works. But as my rambly mind has tried to explain on this fine Christmas Eve, there are so many levels to this. The Yikes factor of the sexiness. Santana's queerness being ignored for the sake of the scene, but being present nonetheless as we know it is a part of her. The scene involving Finn freaking Hudson, of all people. A representation of how little power Santana's actually had in the narrative of her own sexuality, if there ever was one. The "all the fellas I haven't kissed" line. I'm going feral over all of it. And I'm sure it's clear that I'm not doing so in a comprehensive way lol.

So, I mean, this is why I need Santa Baby discourse because there are so many layers of this from the song choice to Santana's perception as a hypersexualized teen and, of course, the Finn of it all. And I have too many half-baked thoughts to be able to make sense of this. Maybe we don't need to make sense of it. Most probably, in fact. But what the hell, I wanna.

To be clear, I don't think it should have been cut. And sure, that's the ardent Santana stan in me talking, but it is what it is.
