When money and political influence become the voice for the voiceless, it's never to the benefit of the victim. Ag-gag laws keep getting proposed by special interest groups, and hopefully will continue to be shot down by lawmakers, but we all need to keep a diligent eye on whatever they're trying to pass through next.

How do you shut down an abattoir? Meet the activists who are a voice for the unheard as they lock themselves inside a slaughterhouse gas chamber and bring the entire facility to a halt. If farmed species could speak in sign language, they'd likely communicate with Greta Thunberg levels of indignation. What's particularly sad about Koko's story is that she unambiguously demonstrated the selfhood and deep emotions of other species, but that seems to have made so little overall difference on the animal rights front.

It's interesting to step back and consider what "forcing your views" actually means when you're just being a rational voice for others. The only thing missing from this whole exchange is to also make it personal to the other person; e.g. by telling the ball-cap-peep that "curlycue-hair-peep doesn't want to be harmed, and to please avoid harming them".
