There used to be a longwave radio array along the highway near the New Brunswick-Nova Scotia border. It’s all marshland around there, flat, so at night that stretch of the drive is completely empty except for the night sky. When I was a kid, back when it was still there and operating, it always felt impossible, like something that couldn’t have been built by people. Driving along, already in the liminal space of a roadtrip, and then out of the darkness come the red lights, an arc of them in the empty night. I miss those towers. Although maybe I just miss those times.

Hhhhhhhhh- Today, well, we drove. All the way from Quebec city to Fredericton and beyond.

We made it to Hopewell cape rocks around 5:00, long after high tide began. (There wasn’t anything to ‘splode 3:<) Truly, these are the highest tides in the world, as even Sana probably wouldn’t have her head above the waterline at high tide.

No hotels tonight, instead we are camping only about 3 kilometres away from the bay. Tomorrow we plan to walk on the ocean bottom, and to travel all the way to the Atlantic~

Road trip memories of walking on the ocean floor at Hopewell Rocks in New Brunswick.... 🚙

Throwback to summer vacation in the late 70’s 😄 Summers when I was a kid were always fun and full of adventure. We never knew what we would be seeing next or what adventure we would come upon.

When I think back, I really love the idea that we could stop wherever we wanted and stay for as long as we cared to. A camping trailer was a great home on wheels. .

Visiting the Canadian Atlantic Provinces was an adventure. The ocean was spectacular and being able to visit Hopewell Rocks was a highlight. When you think of it it’s really crazy that the tide comes in so high that it makes tiny islands of these structures and when the tide is low you can actually walk on the ocean floor. Amazing. .

I know I’d love to go back and visit again !!
