Design notes beneath the cut

Circe is inspired by minoan frescoes in her wardrobe, but her overall look is kind of "witchy surfer girl that smells of patchouli" as the main inspo lol since shes the daughter of Helios.

Penelope is supposed to be an ideal woman so she is largely inspired by minoan snake goddess/mycenean frescoes. very typical bronze age depiction of a woman. shes very ornate bc she doesnt move a lot. Lots of blue that is specific to Odysseus.

Calypso is supposed to be from the tyrian/carthaginian region (northwest africa) with berber inspiration for her face tattoos. lots of purple in her designs due to carthaginian inspo. All this is bc her father Atlas is believed to have etymology from North Africa/the Berber language (his name may come from "Adras" which is the word for mountain.)

Nausicaa is the least ornate bc shes unmarried, so she hasnt recieved a lot of gifts that would come from marriage like jewelry. she is dressed like the classical period, and has no makeup to show that she's younger than the other women. idk why shes a redhead i just like the idea. She'd be probably from modernday Corfu, which has associations to Artemis (which she also has!), and has the oldest Doric style temple, which added to her classical appearance.

Odysseus’ “prize” (read: sex slave) is from the neighboring cities around Troy, so she’s already not as ornate as the rest of his women as seen in her dress. girl was probably a goat herder before being taken as a prize. the metal she wears is bronze. her hair was shaven to indicate she’s a slave and i intend to redesign her to keep that shaven hair quality. Minoan frescoes are design inspo there.

Odysseus is just purely vibes based. His hair is wavy bc waves, with two noticeable scars from youth. Something about "despite everything, it's still you". The gems in his necklace are the same color as the bodice of Penelope's dress.

So uh, currently designing Nausikaa if she was in hades/in hades 2, and I wanna share some fun facts! (Because she's underrated asf-)

She's actually a descendent of Poseidon, as Poseidon made love to Periboea and she bore him a son Nausithous, and he had two sons Alcinous and Rhexenor, Rhexenor had a daughter Arete (who Alcinous married 😬) and they had several children, one of those being Nausikaa.

In some later works, it is said that she marries Odysseus's son Telemachus. And those are the versions I'm willing to accept as canon because it makes WAY more sense than Telemachus marrying Circe-

Her father Alcinous wanted her to marry Odysseus because of him being very wise and admirable, however, the two of them actually never form a romantic bond, if anything, it is said Nausikaa was a bit of a mother figure to Odysseus since she ensures him home and was rather helpful when he washed up on Phaeacia/Scheria.

Nausikaa is very beautiful and young (she was about sixteen), and Odysseus describes her beauty as that of a goddess, Artemis to be more specific.

So yeah, that's that :D

alcinous, king of phaeacians (asteroid 11428)

Alcinous was the father of Nausicaa, Halius, Clytoneus, and Laodamas. Alcinous and his wife, Arete, live on an island named Drepane. This is the island that Jason and the Argonauts visited after their adventures on the land of Colchis - where he stole the Golden Fleece from. The Colchian army demanded Medea, but it was Alcinous who said that she would only go back with them if she were still a virgin; if not, she was Jason's wife, and he (Alcinous) would be forced to protect the couple. The army went home. Alcinous is also one of the rulers who Odysseus tells his tales to. IN MY OPINION Alcinoos in your chart can represent a) where you protect couples, b) where you might be protecting the wrong people, c) where you take in strangers, and/or d) where you listen to others.

i encourage you to look into the aspects of alcinoos along with the sign, degree, and house placement. for the more advanced astrologers, take a look at the persona chart of alcinoos AND/OR add the other characters involved to see how they support or impede alcinoos!

i feel like nausicaa kind of walks into the odyssey out of a different genre. a fairy tale. odysseus knows what kind of story he's in, and it's not that. but nausicaa is tossing a ball with her friends when she throws it too far and loses it. when she goes after it she finds a cursed man. she doesn't run away because she's brave. she gives him her laundry to clothe himself because she's kind. she sneaks him into her palace. if this were a fairy tale he would marry her! but when he doesn't, she doesn't turn into a witch or a monster. she's still just kind to him. idk. i love her.

people like to lump circe and calypso together and i see why, i’ve done it too, but i think maybe calypso is better matched with nausicaa, because it’s actually nausicaa who is calypso but stronger

Odysseus' reintegration into the world bound by mortal limitations foregrounds both his age and the distance he has traveled. This is not, then, the epic of the beautiful death (one way to read the Iliad (e.g., see Vernant 1991: 50-74)) but the epic of timeworn, embraceable life.

Ta-da!! All four of my Alien Stage OCs in stunning technicolor! (not necessarily stunning im just making a joke) but yeah here are the official colors/designs for my little guys when they're at the Garden!

Notes to add context to their appearances/backgrounds:

At the time of the current competition (season 39), Onyx is actually 20 years old, being about nine months older than Dian (Di's turning 20 on the 13th of October!). They're both comparatively pretty young though. Nausi is 26-27 and Yumi will be 18 during her season.

Nausikaa's eyes are no longer heterochromatic because I wanted Yumi's to be and I didn't want to double up. They're like . . . reptile/cat yellow now, which lines up with her other predatory features

Dian, Nyx and Nausikaa's hair grow naturally in reddish-orange, grey/black, and teal respectively, due to genetic modifications and specific breeding. On the other hand, Yumi's hair is naturally brown but her bangs are almost always bleached to keep up with her dual-toned image.

Yumi is the youngest, she'll be participating in Season 40, as she was in the same class as @alien-til-i-stage's Macbeth and Inna. She's babey (in presentation and age. do not ask her about the horrors because she knows them all too well)

Nyx is mixed Korean and European (maybe Irish because of his coloring?), Dian is Mexican/Filipino/Indonesian, Nausikaa is Egyptian/Greek, and Yumi is predominantly Korean (as in, she has some other ancestry but none of it is significant enough to be noteworthy)

Sebastian's opinions on them:

-Dians cool. He's really nice and kind,, better then what I've experienced. He's refreshing.. (deja vu again.... He mumbled)

-Nyx is so much more refreshing. It's so nice to see how I'm not the only one here that thinks those same thoughts!

-Yumi? .. by name and her talent .... She's eerily similar to Yume. But I could be wrong! (please let me be wrong)

-Nausikaa..? Nu-a-sick-aa? ... Nice name, but I don't think I've met that person..

Yume's opinions on them:

-Dian? Oh, he's interesting! .. similar in a deja vu way. But he's honestly the better one out of all of them

Hello!! It is me, Rock, the guy behind @rockwgooglyeyes um yeah I decided to finally bite the bullet and make an alnst-oc specific blog because I have so many at this point 😔

My original characters that will be the focus on this blog include:

Nyx (Onyx) or specimen #001247, 20 years old, he/him trans man, season 39 participant and escapee. He has three kids that all belong to @apriciticreveries, Asahi, Yami, and Natsuki

Dian (291341), 19 years old, he/they gnc cis man, Alumni of Anakt Class 39, Nyx's boyfriend. Owned by Teneb

Nausikaa (007793), ~27 years old, she/her trans woman, former student of Anakt Class 40 and current member of the rebellion (Setup and Takedown). Created to hunt down lost human pets.

Yumi (027819), 20 years old, she/her & agender, Anakt Class 40, a selectively mute individual and Asahi's girlfriend

Asuka (217342), 22 years old, he/him gnc cis man, Anakt Class 40, Isla (@nottoonedin)'s younger brother and Leto (@paradisedisconcert)'s boyfriend. A mischievous crow boy

That's all of the ocs that will actually be featured in their own seasons . . . I will probably end up talking about Haneul & Faolán as well (they are Nyx and Mori's parents) because they have a connected to Caskyo as well as Mori & Nyx (and Haneul won season 37). Cam, Dian and Faisal's older sibling, might come up as well but that's not. set in stone. I just wanted to make this blog for easier organization but no one has any obligation to follow it or pay attention to it!

minerva ; obviously prosthetic buds but i cam see ember yapping his ass off to her while she just teases him whenever he's being dumb.. i think they'd hang out in yuuki's workshop whenever she's working on their prosthetics.. def siblings potential

nausikaa ; transfem transmasc solidarity !! i can see them being very loud and goofy together.. ember is also very bullyable at times so i can nausikaa lovingly making fun of him. idk in my head they'd be besties or siblings !!

yuuki ; ive talked abt it before but ill say it here ember fucks up his prosthetic so much it's almost insane how much he does and yuuki always fixes it. he definitely yaps her ear off while she works. he thinks she's super cool <3

orian ; since she's someone that vic looks up to a lot (cough his mom cough), ember felt like he needed to ask for permission to be vic's qpp lmao. he was genuinely in tears shaking and sweating when he asked because he didn't want to make her upset

cindy ; i think vic would introduce them and ember would immediately make it his mission to become one of her friends. he loves loves loves her piano skills and breaks out into terrible singing when she plays (much to everyone's disdain/lh)

vic ; i could talk about these two all day BUT when vic gets overwhelmed with missions or feels like he's doing too much, he automatically goes to ember to relax. ember is very sweet whenever he gets like this and pampers him to no end <3

I have playlists for all my characters, and if I listed multiple songs for each I’d be going on for… a while… so I’ll stick to one for each.

Castor, I would say, is Disarm by The Smashing Pumpkins:

“Disarm you with a smile / And cut you like you want me to / Cut that little child / Inside of me and such a part of you”

���…Disarm you with a smile / And leave you like they left me here / To wither in denial / The bitterness of one who's left alone”

“I used to be a little boy / So old in my shoes / And what I choose is my voice / What's a boy supposed to do? / The killer in me is the killer in you, my love / I send this smile over to you”

This song reminds me of Castor’s complicated relationship with his past, which translates to his relationship with his children, Cinnabar and Leto (@apriciticreveries and @paradisedisconcert). It also makes me think of Castor and Onyx’s (@rockwgooglyeyes) relationship with the second verse quoted. The line “disarm you with a smile” honestly sums up Cas’s entire character in five words.

Kyo’s song would be You Don’t Own Me by Tamino:

“You may keep me in / In between your walls / Ban me from traveling / And tell me not to sing / And you may have your thoughts / A sketch of who I am / A notion you've conceived / A sight you want to see

But you don't know me / No, you don't know me”

Kyo’s character is defined by his refusal to be what anyone wants him to be, or do what the aliens want him to. Even his death is a firm “you don’t own me, I will not live this life anymore and my death will be mine.”

Tallis’s song would be First Day of My Life by Bright Eyes:

“This is the first day of my life / Swear I was born right in the doorway / I went out in the rain, suddenly everything changed / They're spreading blankets on the beach

Yours was the first face that I saw / I think I was blind before I met you / And I don't know where I am, I don't know where I've been / But I know where I want to go”

“…And I thought it was strange, you said everything changed / You felt as if you'd just woke up

And you said / "This is the first day of my life / I'm glad I didn't die before I met you / But now I don't care, I could go anywhere with you / And I'd probably be happy"

Before Tallis came to Anakt Garden, he was entirely alone to the point where he didn’t even feel like he was living. Meeting Himei, his friends, and pursuing his passion of music changed that all. In a sad irony, being sent to Anakt Garden like a pig to slaughter was, in his mind, the first day of his life.

Himei’s song is My Love Mine All Mine by Mitski:

“'Cause my love is mine, all mine / I love mine, mine, mine / Nothing in the world belongs to me / But my love mine, all mine, all mine / My baby, here on earth / Showed me what my heart was worth / So, when it comes to be my turn / Could you shine it down here for her?”

Himei places a lot of meaning on her relationships. Love is the one thing she feels is hers, so she holds onto it with a tight fist. These lyrics feel reminiscent of her relationships with Tallis and Tov (@ivanttakethis).

Okay so. My song for Itsaso might be a little goofy. But it works. It’s The Other Side from The Greatest Showman. First chorus makes me think of Nausi and the second is Itsaso:

“Don't you wanna get away from the same old part you gotta play / 'Cause I got what you need, so come with me and take the ride / It'll take you to the other side / 'Cause you can do like you do / Or you can do like me / Stay in the cage, or you'll finally take the key / Oh, damn, suddenly you're free to fly / It'll take you to the other side”

“…Don't you know that I'm okay with this uptown part I get to play / 'Cause I got what I need and I don't want to take the ride / I don't need to see the other side / So go and do like you do / I'm good to do like me / Ain't in a cage, so I don't need to take the key / Oh, damn, can't you see I'm doing fine / I don't need to see the other side”

This is one of those songs that I would kill for an animatic to exist with of those two.

Naz is Work Song by Hozier, a song describing devotion to the extreme:

“I just think about my baby / I'm so full of love, I could barely eat / There's nothin' sweeter than my baby / I'd never want once from the cherry tree / 'Cause my baby's sweet as can be / She'd give me toothaches just from kissing me

When my time comes around / Lay me gently in the cold dark earth / No grave can hold my body down / I’ll crawl home to her”

To me this is the Nakane song (@aakaneeee). Naz is the character of mine whose romantic relationship is the most important to her character, so it makes sense her song would correspond to that.

Eddy’s song is Black Sheep by Metric (who is, funny enough, Naz’s voice claim):

“Hello again, friend of a friend, I knew you when / Our common goal was waiting for the world to end / Now that the truth is just a rule that you can bend / You crack the whip, shape-shift and trick the past again

I'll send you my love on a wire / Lift you up, every time / Everyone pulls away, ooh / From you”

The title describes Eddy’s situation and their feelings about their isolation from other humans perfectly, and the lyrics, specifically “send you my love on a wire” perfectly describe its relationship with Nausikaa and Sebastian (@sotogalmo) both crucial parts of its past.

And finally, Yael’s song is Mausoleum by Rafferty:

“Come inside my mausoleum / Light a candle on the pathway to my casket room / Step on through rusty iron archways / Where a pigeon lays that died without his lover

So strange and beautiful / How you gaze upon my bones / A mistake, a tragedy / Since we missed each other by a century”

This song just feels perfectly eerie and poetically nonsensical for Yael’s mindset.

Daily ALNST OC Question ! :

What would be a, or a few songs that would describe / fit your character’s, well, character ?

EXAMPLE :

I would say a few songs for Aurien, would be, probably, Phony ( Especially the lyrics in Trickle’s cover ! ), and Appetite of a People-Pleaser !

Though if your referring to her relationships ( Which are also a pretty big piece of her character, and influence her a lot ), I think the main song would me, Love me, love me, love me !

( Random Tangent : Just for funsies, Id say some songs that kinda sum up Aurien’s thoughts and feelings towards Solei would be Meant to Be Yours from Heathers, The Moon Will Sing ( Especially at 1 : 29 to 1 : 52 ), Ruler Of My Heart, and the english cover of IDSMILE by rachie and moon jelly lolol )
