Happy National Poinsettia Day! ❤️💚 These living beings (not decorations!) need and deserve special care. 🌱🥰 That starts with protection from frost. Please research if you get any! ❤️ I’ve had my other poinsettia (Settia) for 4 years now!!! 😁 This new one, I decided to name Stella. 😁❤️ Thank you @friendsofpachaugforest for 🪴🪴 and more. 😁 #nationalpoinsettiaday #poinsettia #poinsettiaday #december #holidazed #wintry #festive #joyeuxnoël #plantmom (at Canterbury, Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmFnfSQMVEa/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

#NationalPoinsettiaDay In 16th-century Mexico, the connection between the poinsettia plant and the Christmas season begins. According to legend, a girl wanted desperately to celebrate Jesus’s birthday. Worried, the girl feared she would have no gift to offer because she was so poor. An angel tells her to give any gift with love. After gathering weeds from alongside the road, the young girl placed them in the manger. Miraculously the weeds bloomed into beautiful red stars. ❤️🤩 https://www.instagram.com/p/CmEltXbromh/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

With Christmas less than 2 weeks away, let's take the time to recognize and celebrate one of the plants of the holidays on National Poinsettia Day. The poinsettia got its name from the first U.S. ambassador for Mexico, Joel Roberts Poinsett, who was enchanted with their beauty and sent some back to his home in South Carolina from Mexico in the early 1800s. A century later the entrepreneurial family, Ecke, started to promote the poinsettia making them traditional holiday decorations.
Please note: poinsettias will cause irritation, stomach upset, or mouth rash if children or pets eat them.

#Nationalpoinsettiaday is almost over- did you buy one today? Remember, here in the frigid north, if you buy a poinsettia or anywhere it is under 55 degrees or so, it better be well wrapped in a paper sleeve- NOT plastic and your vehicle better be warmed up and go right home. Euphorbias, which poinsettias are, do NOT like to be cold at all or even slightly chilled. Native to Mexico, they like it warm! #houseplants #tropicalplant #indoorplant #holidayicon #holidayplant #gardenchat #urbanjungle #Christmasplant

#nationalpoinsettiaday A beautiful painting by @stephanieamatoart Today is Poinsettia Day, officially declared by an Act of Congress. It is in honor of Joel Roberts Poinsett, who died on December 12, 1851. Poinsett was the first Ambassador to Mexico . Poinsett brought this colorful plant back to his plantation in the U.S. He grew the plants in his Greenville, S.C plantation and gave them out as gifts to friends. According to Mexican folklore, there is a story of a little poor girl who had nothing to bring to church for Christmas. On her way to church, she picked some plants by the side of the road. As she entered the church, the leaves at the tips of the branches turned into bright, brilliant red flowers. You guessed it... Poinsettias. #poinsettiaday #christmas2019 https://www.instagram.com/p/B5-Y4OZF_9L/?igshid=mxkar56g3e3e
