Anti capitalistic methods of self reliance!
Everyday items:
Plastic bags can be replaced by cloth bags you can sew, without any prior knowledge of sewing, from any old shirt you were going to throw away
Toilet paper can partly or completely be replaced by 'Family cloth', which is a series of cloth napkins cut to the size you like, which are then washed after each use! There's no risk of disease if only used for number one, for number two they need to be submerged into peroxide liquid in order to be safely cleaned. Even if you only use them for number one to stay safe, being reusable and costing nothing they will save you a lot in not having to buy toilet paper
Paper towels can be replaced by little cut-out cloths you can easily wash after use, or a simple kitchen and bathroom cloth for cleaning
Paper tissues have originally been handkerchiefs, washable and reusable, zero waste option (and they can be very pretty too!)
Laundry detergent can be replaced by horse chestnuts, or conkers! If cut open and submerged in water, they will produce soapy water, which is equally good at cleaning as your laundry detergent, completely environmentally friendly and free if you foraged the chestnuts. They can be collected and dried to use for the entire year, and you can tie them up in a sock to put in your washing machine.
Cleaning products can be replaced by vinegar, and if you hate the smell you can change it by infusing citrus peels in it! It will smell like oranges and lemons after you leave them in there for a few weeks
Cleaning products can also be self-made, by fermenting food scraps, it's called 'enzyme cleaner' and it can clean most of things in a completely environmentally friendly way!
Shampoo can be self-made, or replaced with options like herbal teas, which will also ensure that your hair no longer gets greasy, as grease is the result of using shampoo
Menstrual pads can be sown from any discarded pieces of cloth, they only need to be submerged in cold water after use in order for blood to wash out. Additionally you can make washable menstrual panties, which make sure your pads don't move in there!
Simple medicine for aches like stomach cramps, headaches, anxiety, sore throat can be found in the basic knowledge of herbalism, and simply making teas from herbs that soothe these issues. They will not be able to cure a heavy disease, but are able to provide momentary relief from annoying aches!
Immunity booster syrup can be made out of elderberries, if you're careful about not getting any seeds or stems in!
if you're growing food, you can grow your own dish sponges, and washing sponges, the plant is called 'Loofah' and you can grow a whole lot in one season then use them for years
Reuse plastic items for as long as you can, to lessen the amount being thrown into landfills, and if you need new items, aim to get a not-plastic one
If you have lots of paper trash or newspapers, you can learn to make baskets from it.
Instead of throwing away food scraps, you can try setting up a simple composting bin and also get some valuable free soil, that is great for growing little plants and herbs in it
If you're composting on a big scale, the heat compost produces can be used to heat a room
getting into hobbies like soap making, pottery, woodcarving, sewing, knitting or weaving can also save you a lot of purchasing because you realize you can simply make that thing yourself, and in better quality than it would be available at the store
Saving water and energy:
Accumulating water in a big pot while you're washing dishes, then using that water to water your houseplants is safe, especially if you're not using a lot of detergent, and it saves a lot of water
To save energy when cooking in a pot in the stove, wait until your pot starts boiling, then take it off the stove, and wrap it in a cloth, then a towel, then a blanket, and leave it wrapped up. The layers of cloth are making it difficult for the heat to escape the pot, ensuring it will keep very high temperature for half an hour, cooking as if it was on the stove. If it needs to cook longer, you can just put in on the stove for a minute to get it back to boil. You can cook pasta, rice, beans, potatoes, soups, stews, risotto, pretty much anything with long cooking time like this.
If your water boiler is big, you don't need to leave it on at all times, I've reduced my electricity bills by a lot by turning it on only when I intend to use the hot water. In the summer, if you have access to a natural body of water, use that for washing!
If you own a property, watch where the water is naturally going and accumulating; you can collec t this water and set up a system to use it for gardening/any outdoor use
if you're building a structure, making sure that the sun hits the windows in the winter, and that the place is protected from the wind by growing trees as a wind shield, will save loads of energy in heating and cooling it, as well as making sure the structure is well insulated
Heat/cool only the parts of the structure/house that you're using, making it both environmentally friendly and ensuring you don't have a too big temperature difference when you go outside, making you healthier
Try an experiment were you go a day without electricity and see what you can use as alternative in this situation; it's okay if you fail, it will provide you with knowledge of how dependant you are on the energy, and the ideas of what you can possibly do when without!
Clothing:
If sewing clothing from scratch is something that appeals to you, that is ideal for self-reliance! It is likely that after just a bit of practice, you'll be able to sew more quality items than are sold, because current fashion items are made to fall apart, and you can make your clothing strong and durable.
Sharing clothing you no longer want to wear, and letting others know they can offer their unwanted pieces to you can provide you not only with practical clothing, but you can use all fabric, buttons, zippers and other materials to sew! You can, again with minimal practice and even by hand-sewing, make your own bags, tablecloths, placemats, pillows, blankets, decorations, hats and scarfs
Visible mending, embroidering, adding details or creating your own little alterations on clothing will not only provide a sense of accomplishment, but enrich your life in the way of skill development and being able to make and mend things with little resources
Learning about history of textiles and what fast fashion is doing to the environment provides appreciation and love for sewing and creating textiles, and could inspire you to try and see how it feels to do!
Any piece of clothing that is no longer fit to be remade into something new, can still be cut into pieces and used for cleaning, as a paper towel replacement, for wiping the floor or wiping your shoes, and if it's soft, for pillow filling!
For extra clothing or furniture, you can join online groups named 'buy nothing' and 'sharing is caring', where people will often gift extra clothes and furniture for free, sometime appliances and electronics too
Food:
If any outside space is available, learning to garden is an excellent investment in food security
Seeds can be harvested from plants you already have, gifted from neighbour or friend gardeners, and some can even be taken out of store-bought produce
Soil can be taken from the forest ground which has composted leaves as topsoil, dig under a tree for best results
If no outside space is availabe, dwarf plants, herbs, and greens can be grown in containers, clean your air while they also provide food
Learning to forage for wild edible plants will provide both entertainment and free food! Any wild plant you find is likely to be more rich in nutrients than a cultivated plant, making your diet well rounded and healthy
Learning to grow trees and care for them will provide free food not only for you, but for generations to come, as well as offset the damage from the climate change. Knowing how trees work and how to prune and nourish them is powerful knowledge.
Preserving food:
Ways of preserving your food long-term are curing (for onions, potatoes, garlic, pumpkins), canning (tomatoes, peppers, fruit), fermenting (cabbage, hot peppers, turnips), dehydrating and sun-drying (tomatoes, fruit, herbs, hot peppers, mushrooms)
Growing and collecting food during warm months and then saving them for winter was done by people for centuries and it provides a safe and reliable access to food all year round
Buying cheap produce when it's in-season and preserving it can save you a lot of money and bring you far in self-reliance
Making your own recipes and then getting to eat them later in the season bring a sense of accomplishment and pride, as well as providing a zero waste food option
Cooking food from scratch is made easier by having some of your food preserved, because a lot of the time you've already prepaired most of your ingredients, and only have to place them in the pot
If you already know to make your own bread, you can also try making your own yeast, by mixing flour and water, and letting it ferment while adding more flour and water every day. It can last forever.
If you're interested in knowing more about gardening, herbalism, tree care, and foraging, check the 'Homesteading Survival Knowledge' masterlist, filled with links on these specific topics!
These are not ideas that anyone should quickly or immediately integrate in their life; instead, trying whatever seems interesting and appealing, slowly learning about it and trying one thing at the time is more encouraging and sustainable! I myself have spent years learning and integrating these, enabling me to feel happy and confident doing any and all of this. If this is overwhelming, pick whatever feels appealing and do only that! Forget the rest until it feels easy and fun thing to try out.

Reflecting on my past when I was like "wow I'm such an introvert". Turns out that wasn't true.
Past Samara, babygirl, you had crippling social anxiety and were slowly sliding into hikki mode, and didn't talk to a physical human outside of your family for like 3 years.
So I didn't have any friends in my classes 'cuz I was a commuter going to college year round and I didn't wanna be perceived by anybody, so for a semester I achily trundled my way down to an obscure basement in my decaying class building that had those lil' nukable snack bowls in a vending machine, and ate "lunch" on the floor in a little quiet corner while the janitorial staff swept up with paper towels for napkins. I did this for almost a year before the building closed.
#Ghoul Lore#How the fuck do people even hang out anymore? I haven't done it for 10 years.#I'm a lot better now but I'm still a social isolate

I’m sure you get a lot of asks, and it’s understandable considering how great you ladies are! I recently read your sustainability swap post (I loved it!) and I wanted to recommend something I didn’t see on there that’s incredibly important to me.
Swap out tampons and disposable pads for menstrual cups and cloth pads!! It’s an adjustment for sure (esp the menstrual cups) but it’s so good for the environment, your health, and frankly your wallet. I made the swap to a menstrual cup abt 5 years ago and haven’t had to buy tampons (minus a few early cycles until I started carrying cloth pads w me) since — and I’ve had the same cup and it’s still working great!
When it comes to the cups ItsJustKelli on YouTube has a great playlist where she reviews multiple diff products to make choosing easier (https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLVehiHoQpDmAQwa9UrHXF9IBzHp3cUenE). It might take some trial and error, but it is well worth the switch, considering your average cup costs abt $35 and (if taken care of) can last at least 5 years. And as far as cleaning it you really only need Castile soap, a repurposed toothbrush, hot water and a decent stainless steel pot to sterilize it in (any company you buy from has a How-To page on the cleaning aspect. They will try to sell their Special Soaps DONT LISTEN ITS A SCAM! Just buy Castile soap and toothbrush same end result!)
As for the cloth pads, there are so many websites for them, and most offer starting kits. They cost more than your average box of disposables, but rather than lasting you a few cycles they’ll last you YEARS. This website https://menstrualcupreviews.net/reusable-menstrual-cloth-pads/ has a list of them. The only brand I can recommend I got off Amazon (guilty as charged) and are great for getting started. (wegreeco Bamboo Charcoal - Reusable Sanitary Pads | Panty Liners | Soft Cloth Menstrual Pads - 6 Pack with 1 Cloth Mini Wet Bag (Medium, Luxury ) https://a.co/d/cTf4mfF)
Ultimately, when I was considering switching I weighed the pros: 1. Save money long term, 2. No longer contribute to the growing pile of blood-soaked, chemical-ridden used tampons and pads clogging landfills, 3. No longer run the risk of introducing toxic chemicals to my body via products made by companies that don’t care abt consumer health; and the cons: 1. More money upfront (which can be circumvented by shopping around and setting aside some money as is feasible), 2. Having to get more comfortable w my body (which ultimately was a positive), 3. The gross factor (downside: yeah you’ll likely see the blood, neutral: it’s your blood tho and you know where it’s coming from; neutral: w the disposable vs. cloth pads the end result isn’t that diff beyond instead of chucking it in the trash you chuck it in the washing machine), and 4. The adjustment of carrying a few cloth pads around (instead of the disposables — not that big of a change).
End note: I did not mean to turn this ask into a novel, but I am just so passionate abt this topic. So many ppl will go into the minutiae of cloth rags and cloth napkins instead of paper towels and paper napkins, the evils of plastic straws, and reusable bags instead of plastic — but not a peep abt the amount of disposable products used for 3-5 days (longer if you’re unlucky like me), every month (or every few depending on birth control, irregular cycles, etc.), every year for decades (think between 3-4 decades depending on start time and menopause) for millions of women worldwide. That’s SO MUCH. And here are two, slightly difficult but worthwhile, choices that can decrease the amount of disposable products clogging up landfills by the thousands long term. As one of the websites I linked says: “The average American woman uses nearly 17,000 tampons in her lifetime — or as many as 24,000 if she undergoes estrogen replacement therapy. And that’s just tampons.”
HELL. FUCKING. YES! Thanks so much for chiming in, baby. We love it when bitchlings share advice with the whole class, so never be afraid to write a long ask with good information.

a collection of eco friendly lifestyle ideas + swaps from various sources around the web:
reusable makeup remover wipes/cotton rounds - i use these and they’re way softer on the skin and bigger so you can use multiple times before washing either in sink or with a laundry load.
cutting products open when they are almost finished - will acc save a lot of money and means that even if buying sustainably is inaccessible to you (valid!) you can make products last for longer
freeze your overripe fruits for smoothies - all tastes the same, means you can make ur own cute lil smoothie mixes and they are often thicker!!
wash dry and reuse plastic bags - they’re almost unavoidable, but you can reuse them easily (i do this for my lunch!)
buy slow fashion - to some this might be too pricey which is totally fine!! but for my uk ppl: run and fly, lucy and yak, and fat face all look rly good and have fun clothing.
eat plant based food - you don’t have to be a vegetarian, you can do meat free monday or just choose the mcplant over a normal burger at maccies! quorn has acc aamzing chicken nuggets and often supermarkets have vegetarian aisles!
support your local farmers market - they often do not wax their apples and you will actually be able to support local businesses instead of big corporations! they also are just fun to go to :)
use a bar dish soap and a bamboo brush
to wash your body, buy bar soap and a net type pouch for it to be able to save it and exfoliate, often less expensive and not packaged in plastic, more scents or you can even make your own!! i’ve heard black african soap is rly good!
use a recycled plastic toothbrush over a normal one - you can use bamboo, but for me bc of sensory issues i can’t, so this is a nice compromise!
use beeswax wraps for food instead of clingfilm - they are more sticky and thick so accessible for people with motor issues (maybe, correct me if i’m wrong but less delicate?) and they have fun patterns and are available from lots of small businesses
instead of liquid hand soap, either use a bar soap or my preference would be a glass pump bottle and tablets that you can dissolve as i find bar soap hard to handle, but bar soap you can keep in tins!
use a reusable water bottle - you can fill them with fizzy drinks or energy drinks, there’s no rules against this!! they keep your drink cold and are sturdier then plastic, and definitely cheaper!! you can also draw on some or stick stickers on to make them more ‘you’!
use cloth napkins and ‘unpaper’ towels instead of rolls of paper towels
buy in bulk
use an ice tray or machine instead of buying big bags from the store - less heavy definitely, and you can add fruits and make ice pops with trays!!
use a refillable or natural deodorant- i use wild (uk ppl!!) and it smells nice, the refills are easy and come in paper and i have a rly cute metal holder!!
you can get reusable cupcake papers - esp for my ppl who like the lick the bottom, they won’t fall apart XD!
use a kindle - reduces the amount of paper books you have to buy, easily transportable, can lend books out to ppl and cheaper books!
bring your own lunch - esp if ur a picky eater like me, i often bring a cheese sandwich and some crisps places so i’m not stuck not eating or choking down food i don’t like and leaving leftovers, also means you can use your own plastic tupperwares instead of store bought single use things lol
grow your own things - i used to grow strawberries as a child and it was surprisingly easily, some ideas are bottle tower gardens and a kitchen herb gardens, you can also grow cat grass and catnip for all my cat parents out there :)
collect rainwater for your plants - just keep a mason jar in your backyard if you have one, or journey out when it’s raining and fill a jar, will last you a bit!!
that’s all i have for now but feel free to add more!!

⚠ TRADE OFFER ⚠
i receive:
information about your new ocs
you receive:
my undying gratitude
oh BOY OH BOY OH BOY ALRIGJT.
sorry i'm like category five nuts over these two bear with me
so basically the hatsune miku lady is a person called anya reyes! she comes from,, not necessarily an overbearing family but ones who are depending on her success a lot (they live in like. an apocalyptic world with its main source of guidance being this very high-up sciencey official corporation and her parents are basically trying to get asylum there by convincing her to build some Grand Scientific Technological Marvel)
which she does! she spends her whole life constructing a...construction called the Orobo- the uh. the. Orub- the um. the Ouroboros Project (which is a nightmare to spell so let's just call it OBS for short) which is the first officially recognised time machine! yayyy!!
( it's important to note that OBS is not the first time machine. it is simply the first recognised one, as time machines are the second-most likely contraption to inadvertently ruin things massively if incorrectly used (the first-most being atomic bombs), and the first-most likely to erase any trace of their existence if REALLY incorrectly handled (mind-erasing devices take second place, as it was deemed the most incorrect usage of them would be as expensive and overly-complicated paperweights.))
this isnt plot relevant in any way. it's literally just random worlbuilding. funfact.)
so. OBS a) doesn't blow up, and b) allows anya and her family asylum inside the walls of this corporation. in fact, more than that, they're SO pleased about this invention that they even rename the corporation! this place used to be called the D.O.S.T. , or Department Of Space Travel after the fact they...made spaceships or whatever, but then renamed themselves to the D.O.S.T.T. , or Department Of Space-Time Travel. THAT'S how pleased they were. had to reprint all the paper napkins and monogrammed towels just for that.
and so, inside the D.O.S.T.T.s buildings, anya meets a guy called viktor cruz- who- you've guessed it! is the other guy i drew. he claims to have been there,, a little longer than her, but not by much- and has got in through the insane and wildly amazing way of umm...(checks my notes) passing the entrance exam. yeah they have one of those. first and last exam that man ever passed- but hey, it was enough!
hes a little less,, caught up on the existence of the OBS than most people- he's like oh sick that's cool but that's about as high as his levels of interest get on that matter and honestly anya appreciates that!! tying your life to one creation you didn't even really want to make yk. kinda sucks.
so they stick together <3 they're besties even- roomies, if you will
viktor helps anya dye her hair and get some periecings and really just be a bit wild with it all and in exchange she helps maintain his prosthetic (and sleep schedule) for that matter!
viktors whole thing is kind of like. he wants to find a nice hospitable planet somewhere and set up his own talkshow/podcast/radio kind of a thing and anyas like fuck yeah i wanna get out of here too can i come be a guest and he's like absolutely you can
what i mean to say is im nuts over them. like so nuts. like they're such,,, they're. you get me.
#OH I FORGOT TO MENTION#what got anya started on the idea of time travel#was that she wanted to go back and like. rescue laika?? yk the dog#and its OBS's first mission and it works!!#and laikas okay and shes fine and alive and she accompanies anya on all of this#cannot stress enough that That is also not plot relevant. i just love laika. shes alive shes alright its all good brother#anyway hi. im so sorry. that was more worldbuilding than i thought id put in but OH WELL ENJOY#virtue looks out

More ,, c!dream transfem poetic ideas....please...
Our purely putrid filthy, fusty, musty, stanky, rank fem-not-female daymare. She’s fraying clothes with seams ripping in the way envelopes and wrapping paper are in their desperation to be opened. She’s patches peeling off the way fruits are peeled with their skins being left out to rot in the sun. She’s the scab and sunburn you pick at until it prickles. She’s sweat from heat against the sweat of the cold. She’s the dust you forgot to sweep up that hangs sparkling in the air. She’s the floorboard that creeks with your breaths. She’s an old fridge whose very self, never mind its contents, is rotting. She’s the light that won’t stop flickering. She’s an old time styled radio that only garbles out guttural sounds and spits static. She’s shoes splitting at the soles that you still expect to shield your feet from the metal as you kick at your broken down rusted car. She’s the bandana you wear when the sands and their winds get too high. She’s the odd smelling and shaped stains that won’t come out and won’t be questioned. She’s a mattress on TOP of a mountain of blankets that are sour smelling and matted with sweat. She’s the grimy coins kids are excited to find. She’s the sketchbook scraps forced to be used as napkins. She’s waking up with wounds you don’t remember how you got and soon will forget having. She’s front yard fires, never strong enough for barbecue. She’s the constant pain that you have no clue where comes from but can’t afford to see a doctor over it. She’s toilet paper veils and toilet paper roll telescopes and napkin handkerchiefs and towel headscarves and Piñata pets. She’s a burning flag (L’Manburg or American) at a backyard concert and brunch. She’s licking at the salt lick in cold hoping it hasn’t frozen over. She’s playing music on the bottom of garbage cans and pans and on top of thighs. She’s a little kid carrying stuff in her hoodie and inside her shirt feeling so smart about it. She’s showing off what you found in the parking lot. She’s moths hitting against patio lights. She’s fireflies caught bare handed in the backyard which you at first are excited about before feeling grossed out. She’s the sea urchin you step on out of spite. She’s the solid salt chunks caught in your mouth from swimming in the sea. She’s empty tortoise shells and even emptier, exposed tortoise spines. She’s animal blood being boiled; something you can’t scrape out. She is pure folk punk. She is everything. She’s made up of and makes up with popsicle stick people and macaroni art men and bottle cap boys and chalk chicks and tally girl tabs. She feels like cicada husks and bed bug shells and dragonfly wings and rhino beetle horns. If you kissed her she would taste of raw meat and then blood because she bites on instinct. She could ride a bike with flat tires. She could make a heater out of an old fan. She somehow gets drunk from church wine and high from smoking straight up grass and chewing on loose exercise -machine tums. She holds an open potluck made up of leftovers as she does scratch off tickets and sniff stickers together. She hand washes clothes and dishes alike but if she had a washing machine she’d get lost in watching it spin until she felt like throwing up. She’s distance spitting seeds and tobacco alike. She collects sand and spices and stamps; all the little things you never know if/when you’ll need. She makes the sort of grits that always get stuck in your teeth and to the top of your mouth and to the bottom of your stomach but in a way that’s comforting. She lets bugs and insects and animals climb onto and all over her.
She lets mosquitos bite her and shows off the bumps that develop proudly because don’t they deserve to eat too? She’s wanting to be lost. She bops herself on the head on an empty soda bottle when she’s not blowing into it and a paper bag. She snacks on perlite like popcorn and chews on wood chips. She drinks the water from leaks and blisters. She sucks up the guts out of pumpkins and suckles on bark and gnaws on sap and loves moss even more than Kris. She’ll feed house and store and backyard and forest plants alike. She has a garden just for weeds. She makes her own manure. She grows mushrooms in the upstairs bathroom sink. She raises crayfish in a school Petri dish. She only wants to eat the green tomatoes and bananas and peaches. She wants to see how sticks and stones break bones. She has squirted lemon and tomato juice directly into her eyes just to see what it’s like.
She wakes up the crickets and the chickens. Her green motif comes from staining from chlorine and leaves painted brighter and more waxy than they could ever be in nature for advertising and the lack of green colored stars that exist. Science kits and first aid kits are the same to her. She brings astronaut food to the beach picnic. She gets bone shards stuck in her teeth along with her tonsil stones. She keeps taxidermy in coolers. She keeps bait in buckets and gives them out like gift bags. She recites rites for roadkill. She made wind chimes out of fake dimes. She nicks nails from construction sites. She dances in dumpsters. She blacks out in the bakery bins behind the store fronts. She kicks her shoes onto the roof after making a contest of how far they could be thrown off when on the swing set. She writes messages out of spider webs. She braids grass to put into her hair and wears roots like rings. She knows the exact classifications that foods like tomatoes and pumpkins and strawberries and eggplants fall into. She has such strong opinions about oatmeal over corn meal, squash vs gourds, egg whites in comparison to yolks. She has grown with the grass and she finds perfume in skunks and every abandoned place is immediately familiar to her. In universe she invented the hawk tuah meme. She’s genuinely “not like most other girls” without even trying. She’s almost disgustingly authentic and actually is very proud of it. It will take months, even maybe years, to sort out my thoughts on her and so many other pretty piling-up things but I will eventually write (and certainty think) about her forever lol.

Susan's post-trip reflections, in no particular order
Everything was far less expensive than I anticipated but for housing.
Cleanliness despite their removing public trash cans almost 30-years-ago.
Politeness.
Efficiency and deliberateness in all things.
High staffing levels and incredible customer service.
Public trans—the trains!! Oh my!!
The crowds! While I expected Tokyo to be dense, it was far more so than I’d anticipated.
Women-only rush-hour train cars.
No talking on the phone on public transportation! Nice!
No honking cars or trucks! We heard exactly one honk while there.
No poverty ghettos. We saw a handful of homeless who appeared to be mentally ill, but that was about it.
The sky-high platform shoes and athletic footwear.
The toilets! I expected Toto washlets, but not music and flushing sounds generated by the toilet as camouflage and toilets that spray air freshener in the bowl. (One even had a “massage” button that I couldn’t get to work.)
The number of tourists.
Flesh-colored tights everywhere, not many women with bare legs, to include young women and teens.
Filmy, long skirts for women are all the rage Blush-color, pink-/peach-ish evocative of cherry blossoms was everywhere—clothing, cars, bicycles, shoes, handbags, you name it.
The number of businesses that only accept cash.
Wonderful, high-quality, inexpensive healthcare based upon John’s experience.
The male and female “bar hosts and hostesses”(some of whom seemed like celebrities), the cost, indebtedness they often create, and the exploitation of both the workers and their patrons. (The young men were also incredibly slight, effeminate, wore makeup, dyed their hair, etc…)
Lack of paper towels in public washrooms.
Kleenex in lieu of napkins in restaurants, although they do provide a warm hand towel or wet-wipe at the beginning of a meal.
They seem very logo conscious, but that seems to be the norm everywhere these days.
The 7-11 stores—they’re ubiquitous and the food is high-quality.
Automatic machines that wash and dry your clothing in one cycle and add detergent as well!!
The old bar/tavern zone in Tokyo, Golden Gai, with the miniature ancient establishments, some of which could only accommodate as few as four patrons.
The ubiquitous and delicious $4 lunch spots.
Some young women - and on some cases women into their thirties - dressing as sexy “Little Bo Peep” types to include pig tails, lacy anklets, etc. it was creepy, as were the young girls dressed up as super-sexy schoolgirl types. (Conventional school uniforms were tasteful.)
Vending machines everywhere, selling everything, to include a hot can of coffee and fresh underwear!
Cafes that allow you to visit with baby pigs, dogs, cats, and even owls. (Most people in Tokyo reside in condominiums or apartments that don’t allow pets.) Consequently, having a dog is a status symbol in that it advertises that you live in a single-family home.
The white lace seat covers favored by taxi drivers.
Taxi driver uniforms —dark suit, white shirt, necktie, and white gloves!
Clear umbrellas everywhere to allow you to negotiate the crowds!

Kiryll was visiting a local bookmaker in Ul'dah, an old friend who insisted on bringing the art of leather craft and printing to the desert. Materials were sparse and expensive, which made his friend able to afford just a bit more than living wage for his crafts, which is more than some artists could say for themselves.
Kiryll had decided to stop back in and check on his mother for a few days. He used a local craftsmanship holiday as an excuse to stay the weekend.
He had arrived too early in the day and forgotten to get a copy of the key to her door, or otherwise misplaced it between here, Thavnair and Garlemald. There were hours to kill, so he thought he'd look up an old friend.
Cl'harich Tia was a gentle soul, and he had made early friends with the preeminent typesetter in Ul'dah. He was now no longer an apprentice, but a master who taught. Typeset books were to be the way of the near future.
It had been the future in Garlemald for at least two decades, but for as long as he had known Harich, he had withheld his origins for fear of judgement. Kiryll could have easily joined his Sunkeeper friend, but had put it out of mind for fear that they might find out that the young man on the newfangled printing press was half Garlean. He wished he had floated that fear to his mother instead of just backing away from it silently after having an excellent day of sorting placeable typesetting blocks.
Cl'harik was the sort that was so far in his own studies that he may only barely remember what Garlean typesettings looked like. He belonged in Sharlayan, but the love for his craft and those around him kept him here. He had never moved in his entire life.
He had met Harik when he had been brought on to replace Beaufort. One of the many people who had to end up replacing Beaufort. Harik was exceptional at inventory, napkin folding, laundry arrangement, note-taking, maths, and handwriting, but had a lot of trouble asserting himself. Kiryll had tried to coach him at getting better with the social stuff, and some of it took, but just when things had started to click, his apprenticeship application went through, and he was catapulted into the heights of assured, stable employment that aligned with one of his interests.
"Kiryll, I would like you to see this!"
Harik showed him the large dye roller, which looked to be quite the intricate work of Goldsmithing.
He spread what looked like green paint on one end of the roller and orange on the other, and turned the machine on. It started rolling the paint into a sunset-stlye gradient. When it looked good enough to Harik, he pulled down on a metal arm on the ceiling Kiryll did not notice was there before, and a claw arm fed a piece of paper into the roller. Harik held the paper in place and kept it from dropping onto the ground, turned around and showed Kiryll quite proudly.
"It's...very...nice-looking! Smooth, and uh, over the whole paper. I haven't kept up with all this unfortunately."
"Ah, apologies, friend, I'm part of the walls here, as it were! This is special because all you need to do to make many a poster in color is a re-application of paint! Each poster is similar to its sisters, but unique enough that it is its own work of art, should a lady want a memento of an evening out at the Opera or the Arena!" Harik had grown a mustache to hide the edges of his nervous smile and it was quite endearing. He had never been able to hide glee at any sort of new discovery - be it who was embezzling the lady's funds, using dip pen nib railroading to draw with on purpose, or knowing just exactly how much of each towel was in which state of being washed, but this amount of glee was beyond any Kiryll had ever before seen.
He gave the piece of paper for Kiryll to hold and inked up another one, and led him over to an apparatus Kiryll remembered from his youth - a block press. The relief of the poster sat affixed to a lever. Kiryll placed his paper into a tray he understood to be the target for the block. Harik pulled on a lever that compressed the print to the paper, and Kiryll remembered to hold it in place when the block retracted.
"Live on stage, the Lexentales!" The block print was a beautiful relief of the Prima Vista.
Oh, Jenomis...
Kiryll kept himself from shaking his head. He got so attached so quickly there. He tried to focus on the beauty of the print and not his awkward heart. "This is beautiful! Did you do this one?"
"You know I don't draw. And! We're not finished."
"Not finished?" The average newspaper page had done more than one hundred in the time they had just the two prints.
Harik walked across his laboratory and placed his copy on another tray. Gold paint adorned its block and Kiryll’s jaw dropped. A golden garnish on the peaks on the letters appeared. "Beautiful, isn't it?"
Kiryll looked around the laboratory, at the blocks with the gold and black paint. "How did you get everything to line up like that?"
"By being very, very precise. It's easy to make a mistake, but they have to be made for each other, elsewise it won't look good."
Kiryll blinked, trying to hold a sentimental memory of a soulmate back. He had been so focused on the soulmate thing. "This is amazing! This is like a painting, almost. Are you worried that the artisans will come knocking?"
"Kiryll, please don't flatter me so! It's not that impressive! At least not compared to what you've done with yourself these last ten years."
Eight of those years as the Warrior of Light. He bore more scars, looked more muscular, had gotten just a bit more tan, and so much more wounded than he was willing to let his friend know. But his eyes having changed color from a cheerful amber to a molten red was one silent social sign Harik began to see the more he looked at Kiryll's eyes. Kiryll was not on hugging terms with Harik, but he invited him to sit in his own workshop chair. "My dear Harik, I would often wish my work to be as quiet, intricate, and peaceful as yours."
"But your work spans the entire world."
"It is not as important as keeping propaganda off the streets. Which I know you've always done." Kiryll liked talking to born Eorzeans in a way that stoked their excitement about questioning authority. He didn't mean it in any kind of explicitly sexual way, either. A values crush? "Hey we didn't have that kind if excitement in Garlemald when I was a kid and seeing you mad at one if their practices gets me feeling a certain way."
Of course, he didn't say that, and Harik just seemed a little nervous. Kiryll forgot how intimidating he could be to some people. Just his hair being different, or seeing him in a different outfit put his mother off if he didn't return to see her for months. Kiryll did realize he'd come across severe, and he exhaled.
"The...war is over."
The poster advertising the Lexentales in Ul'dah was proof of that. Time had passed. A year, in fact. "Sorry, I...forgot myself."
"Thank you for the compliment."
"I think what I meant to say, in war or peace, art matters."
"I know it, friend." Harik said, his smile denoting that he genuinely understood. "Would you like to keep this one?"
If he refused, it would feel less sweet of him, and therefore suspicious. "Of course. One of a kind."
"First of its kind, but still unique in that regard."

The Role of Tissue Laminating Machine in Manufacturing High-Quality Tissue Products
Tissue products, such as facial tissues, paper towels, and napkins, are everyday essentials that require precision and quality in their manufacturing process. One crucial machine that plays a significant role in producing high-quality tissue products is the tissue laminating machine. This advanced equipment ensures the durability, softness, and overall excellence of the final product. In this blog, we will delve into the essential role of tissue laminating machines in manufacturing high-quality tissue products.
Enhanced Strength and Absorbency:
Tissue laminating machines are designed to combine multiple layers of tissue paper together, creating a stronger and more absorbent end product. The machine applies an adhesive layer between the tissue layers, effectively bonding them into a cohesive structure. This lamination process significantly improves the strength and durability of the tissue product, ensuring it can withstand vigorous use without tearing or disintegrating. Additionally, the laminated layers enhance the absorbency of the tissue, making it highly effective in soaking up moisture or spills.
Softness and Comfort:
Softness and comfort are essential attributes of tissue products, especially for facial tissues and toilet paper. Tissue laminating machines employ precise techniques to ensure a delicate and gentle touch. The process allows for the integration of softer tissue layers, creating a luxurious and plush texture that is soothing to the skin. By laminating layers of tissue together, the machine enhances the softness and comfort of the final product, providing an enjoyable user experience.
Customization and Versatility:
Tissue laminating machine offer versatility and customization options for tissue product manufacturers. These machines can handle various tissue materials, including virgin or recycled paper, and accommodate different thicknesses and sizes. Manufacturers can tailor the lamination process to meet specific requirements and create tissue products with distinct characteristics. Whether it's adjusting the number of layers, controlling the adhesive application, or incorporating special features like embossing, tissue laminating machines provide flexibility to produce a wide range of high-quality tissue products.
Conclusion
Tissue laminating machines play a vital role in the manufacturing of high-quality tissue products. By combining layers of tissue paper, these machines enhance strength, absorbency, softness, and comfort.
