My Policeman (dir. Michael Grandage) x TIFF 2022.

This feels like a rather milquetoast period gay romance told over two distinct timelines and sets of actors playing the same characters at different ages. All six central performances are appropriately restrained yet offer little in the way of exciting drama anchored by the supposed fiery love affair from the passionate (and at the time, illicit) relationship between Harry Styles and David Dawson as forbidden lovers. Things slowly unfold while never adequately capturing the scandalous melodrama of the core love triangle in both past and present.

Premiered at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Gala Presentations program.
