And watching that and remembering it was so exciting. Like we, it was, there was such a vibe of, and it was also, I, I wanna say like the first, I mean, we, we never shot, like at a concert before. You know what I mean? We left the sound stage, which is always a scary proposition for a sitcom because you get in your little routine and your multicam and you know what you're doing, and then you take them outside and it goes crazy. But this was like beyond, we were basically inserting ourselves into their concert. And they were, yeah, they were, they were playing at the Coliseum. They were playing at, at the USC Coliseum down here in LA. It was not a San Francisco, no actual San Francisco concert, but luckily the USC colors and the 49ers colors are kind of close enough. That like, you could almost buy if you just didn't look at the, you know, Tommy, the Trojan head on the giant billboard behind them and all the people in USC sweaters and sweatshirts and hats and all of that. If you didn't look at that, you were like, oh, they're totally in San Francisco. -Jodie

So cool. And a, according to my very limited research, so this was a one hour concert after the USC game against California. And I don't know why, but the, okay. The Beach Boys are gonna put on an hour long concert. -Andrea

Again, Kokomo, it was, they were, it's Kokomo. It was Kokomo was, they were doing a bunch of press in relation to the song that came out with the movie. 'Cause the movie was doing really well, I think. And that, that was like, 'cause it was all kind of around that same time...I didn't remember what it was. I was like, was it a, why was it a concert? Like why, why were, why were there cheerleaders there? I wasn't, I was confused on that. So, and it was, you know, of course never explained, but Yeah. Like, they cut to the crowd and in the front it's like all, it's just the entire USC cheerleading squad. And you're like, oh. Pay no attention to them... Also, when running up on stage, something that you don't see, is I trip getting onto the stage at the Coliseum? I'm pretty sure, actually. I did trip and fall. I think it's the part where like, you see us running up on the stage and Bob has me by the hand. And I, and we're like running up and, and going up the steps. And I think just as it, like, we get to the stage, we clear camera and it cuts, but I'm pretty sure that's about where I tripped and like went sailing forward. But I think luckily Bob had me by the hand kind of, you know, yanked me up. Because I vividly remember, I was like, oh yeah, I remember that time I fell down at the Coliseum in front of like 25,000 people. Yeah. It was cool. -Jodie

But it was so much fun and you can just see all of us together having such a great time. Like, it was such a fun family memory to be up there and you know, I remember the excitement of shooting it. I remember it being like, you know, there's again that sort of live show excitement. And I don't really think that we had done anything at all, like that  before..And nothing that we had shot that was like, you get one chance to do it and this is it. You know, and you're in a concert and go for it. So I think I remember as a kid being like, oh my gosh, oh my God. It was probably why I fell down....But it was so much fun and, and just what a joyful experience and like to watch. We were having such a great time up there....The outfits that Candace and I were wearing, like I said, we okay. I can't rem.., like I said, I don't remember if we bought them like for ourselves and used them for the show or vice versa. It was probably that we got them for the show. But our wardrobe department..were very excited for the concert. 'Cause they knew they could do something really fun and Oh, yeah. And so I remember going to a, a store in down, like Venice Beach, Santa Monica called Nana's. And I think Nana's is, might still be there. Or maybe not, but in a different location. I mean, but okay. Anyway, it's probably closed down by now. Everything is closed down. But it was like the cool spot to go if you were like, wanted eighties gear. So if you see, I'm wearing, like, I have like a red, like, like little shirt on, but I have a black petticoat on. Which was, do you remember the, the, the days of, of Petticoats, like in the Madonna era? Where you would wear like a petticoat and then they had like these, like, you'd kind of put a skirt over the top of it if you wanted. And so Roberta took me to Nana's. -Jodie

It’s basically 3 color desert DCU but with more blobs. It only appears slightly darker because of the increased amount of dark blobs.

Custom Canik Rival 

A short time ago, my wife and I attended the IV8888 shoot down in Georgia. One of the vendor booths set up was Century Arms. Of course they had a nice selection of Canik pistols among other firearms they either manufacture or import. My wife at the time was only a few weeks past major shoulder surgery on her left arm. She is right handed, so at least she still had use of her good arm. She is also a huge Canik fan. She’s owned a TP9SF pistol in FDE for quite a few years now. I wanted to see her reaction on the Canik Rival pistol since it ws their newest model and had quite a number of physical as well as appearance changes when compared to her TP9SF. She was shooting everything that day one handed and when she took some shots with the new Canik Rival, she was hitting a steel plate half way across the range with very little ease. 

After that event was over and with a very special birthday coming up in December, I saw an opportunity to do something special for her. I went over to Brownells and they happened to have Canik Rival pistols in black, in stock. I quickly ordered one up to my local FFL. Upon picking it up, I marveled at it’s beauty, but wanted it to be extra special for her. My wife’s favorite color is purple, but a solid purple pistol might be too much. I reached out to a company, fairly local to me, Weapon Works. I contracted them to do a black Multicam cerekote pattern with some purple accents added in. They quoted me 8 weeks to complete the project. About 4-5 week after I dropped it off, they were finished. Wow, what a quick turn around. M wife’s birthday was still 4-5 weeks away. So I took some really nice photos and put together a before/after video for my YouTube channel, then tucked it away until the big day.

Finally the day had come…it had been so hard keeping this pistol under wraps for such a long amount of time. I wrapped the pistol up in some foam, then placed it into the case. Put the case into a box and gift wrapped it. When she went to open the box, she saw that it was a pistol case and undoubtedly saw the Canik logo on the box. Once she pulled the foam off of the pistol…her first response was priceless… “Oh sh**” she exclaimed when she first put her eyes onto her new pistol. She was so surprised at what it looked like. I told her it was a one of a kind…no 2 Canik Rival pistols have that particular finish on it. I’m hoping that this doesn’t deter her from enjoying it and shooting it at the range. She is a very good shot…much better than I am at shooting handguns. 

A huge thanks to my good friends over at Brownells… always great selection of parts, accessories and firearms like this Canik Rival. Hats off to the folks over at Weapon Works as well…I’m looking forward to having them do some more work for me in the future. Starting with the base layer, natural fibers, cotton or wool. Wool only for the socks. As the initial deployment reason was for SAR and relief efforts, I'd bring canvas work pants (Carhartt, Duluth) for general all-around work, and some milsurp or hunting pants for dedicated SAR and patrol operations, camo patterns like Sitka's Subalpine, Multicam, ATACS IX or in solid dark earth tones. For shirts, a mix of cotton tees, canvas or plaid work shirts. A Patagonia Nano Puff vest and some wool flannels for layering. Two main outer layers, a wool "drug rug" hoodie and some waterproof field coat in either a dark green or a camo like CADPAT/GreenZone/or Finnish M05. And I am not missing a reason to drop cash on PNW logger boots, so Drew's 10 inch loggers. Boonie hat and a beenie.

For knives a Benchmade Osborne, Fallkniven S1, and Leatherman Wave. A small axe like a Council Tools Flying Fox Woodsman Hatchet & E-tool on my ruck, these can also be distributed around a team for weight. Speaking of the ruck, I'm going with a Hill People Gear Type 1 Wildland Fire Pack. It's made for extended operations in this region while hauling tools and equipment.

Weapons - An AR15 in an "A5" configuration w/ a Modlite, 2 point sling, a 1-6x LPVO and any type of clip-on NOD and lasers that can be sourced. An M&P 9mm w/ X300. I may get into the reasoning for the rifle choice in a separate post. Someone on the team needs a 12 gauge shotgun for counter-drone work, preferably a waterfowl style for long shots and heavier loads.

For my chest rig I'm choosing a Beez Combat Systems 6 mag split front, with a GP pouch and a covered triple mag pouch on each side configured like a large D3CR. This can be configured for 12 mags total, or 9 and a radio, or however I like. One GP pouch will be dedicated to medical gear. The other nav/admin equipment.

Bivy sack, nalgenes and a metal bottle cook set, water filter and purification tablets, emergency foil blanket, handheld and a headlamp, small Plano box for battery management. Gshock watch with a backup compass on the strap.

I might add stuff in the morning.

Gunblr Game: CASCADIA

[Disclaimer for anyone new here: These are strictly fictional entertainment exercises within hypothetical scenarios. None of this is meant to be taken too seriously, or as a threat, or any sort of political stance. Just interactive fiction. I am not responsible for anyone else's actions or statements.]

Background: An unprecedented event has occurred in which both the San Andreas Fault Line and Cascadian Subduction Zone shift, triggering massive earthquakes, just minutes apart, leaving the West Coast devastated. The Cascadian quake occurs offshore at a magnitude of 9.5, causing massive tsunamis to pummel the coastline of the entire PNW and reduce the cities of Portland and Seattle to rubble. Vancouver, B.C. fairs a big better but is still heavily damaged. The bulk of the San Andreas quake is along the southern half of the fault line at a magnitude of 8.2 and significantly impacts every major city in the southern half of the state. In the aftermath, fires have ravaged what's left of the cities and further raised the death tolls and number of homeless.

Failed Response: Predictably, the US government prioritized California in relief efforts declaring the central and southern areas as the California Disaster Zone and declaring the northern most section of the state up to the Canadian border the Cascadia Disaster Zone. The region is enraged at their abandonment, while similar outrage occurs in Canada at the minimal relief efforts there. This leads to a power crisis and a huge autonomous zone that more or less runs from the NorCal Redwoods to Vancouver B.C..

This is not a secession, as the federal powers are completely indifferent and leaving the region their its fate, focusing on the wealth and voter power bases to the south.

Current Situation: It has now been several months, and within the PNW, various factions operate is loose collaboration due to necessity. At least one faction has sided with Chinese interests, whose personnel are on the West Coast under the guise of relief efforts. Refugee camps are all over the place as many flee the Portland and Seattle regions on foot. The majority of the factions are just people protecting what's left of their communities, bolstered by volunteers, many of whom originally arrived to assist in S.A.R. and rebuilding efforts. With interstates destroyed or operating at very limited capacity, many supplies are trucked in via smaller roads.

The Game:

You are a volunteer inside the Cascadia Disaster Zone, specifically a small town with an influx from neighboring towns : What would you arm yourself with from the mix of what's left in stores, personal collections, police stations, guard armories, and the massive cross section of weapons and gear brought in through sympathic American and Canadian supply lines? Aside from your personal security patrol gear, is there a role or setup you would insist be included among teams?

Threats - Chinese backed collaborator militia with PLA "advisors", supported by FPV drones and robotic dog scouts. Groups of armed looters attempting to take what they can as they escape the region. Random opportunistic criminals operating in the lawless environment.

Roles - Static security in towns and camps, patrols/sweeps of local area, S.A.R. should community members go missing, maintaining supply routes, and manning lookouts watching for threats, be they human, animal, or environmental related.

These security roles are supplemental to survival/relief efforts. You are there to help, not invade.

That's the premise for this one, folks. Almost the whole of the American and Canadian outdoor and shooting industries is on the table for gear. Assume a large, if poorly managed, stream of private aid is coming in, and lots of volunteers have technical knowledge. Feel free to get creative. Be as detailed as you like with your equipment choices.
