I (accidentally?) saw Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare early on the 8th and all I can say is I can’t wait for the fics.

OK OK hear me out though:

Freddy can make fire and control it. But more than that fire is always hungry to burn more, and it always tells him where to set his explosive for the best effect. Alvarez is good at what he does because there is nothing like the pleasing feeling he gets when a fire burns bright and strong.

Haysay is blessed by the sea as they say, he cannot die while on the sea/ocean. The sea recognizes him as her own and won’t let harm come to him. He will always find fish, he will never get lost, he will never drown. Beware attacking him, hurting him while on the sea, she is treacherous, her depth never ending and won’t let you go easy.

Lassen can turn into a bear, ferocious and wild with teeth strong enough to pierce any skin and claw big enough to cut arms in a single strike. Play dead, they say, play dead. But Lassen is a also a man and he can tell so don’t look so surprised that his teeth clamped around your head and bring you to death.

Apple can see glimpse of future, can see if his plan will be a success or not. He can tell upon meeting someone if they will be important to him or not, if they’ll break his heart. But choose to stay anyway. He also dabbles in magic, healing and communication mostly because once you are part of the group, he’d rather you stay.

Marjorie is beautiful and clever and has a voice like the siren of the story, charming people and making them do anything she wants. And with a smile and a wink they forget and forgive, she wears her beauty like an armor and know that she has yet to meet a man that can resist her. When she wants somethings, she will have it. Be it a pretty bauble or a head on a platter.

Heron has always an airtight alibi. Why, you say you saw Heron next to the electrical plant yesterday? Impossible he was at his bar entertaining the colonel. You think you saw him talking to pirate last week? You saw wrong, he was meeting this rich couple from the America. It’s easy to be a spy when you can be two whenever you need.

Gus had no power, but ancient blood sing though his veins attracting all kind of strange people to him. He accepts and welcome them with open arm, a grin and a nice bottle. He always knows what to say and do to have people’s loyalty. And that is kinda a power in its own isn’t it ?

I hope the ministry of ungentlemanly warfare spawns a decade plus of the most gorgeous insane ship fics you’ve ever seen based on one flirty exchange between two dudes the same way inception did.
Cause subtext is for cowards and we love a good banter.

"Richard Mouw's account of his 'adventures in Christian civility' is, for the reader, an adventure through American, evangelical, and ecumenical evolution between the last century and this one. It is written in the fullness of his voice--as a teacher and leader, a Christian public intellectual, and an immensely wise and gracious human being. Most importantly, it winsomely brings into relief the virtue of Christian humility with which he has walked the faithful, exacting intersection between the positions one holds and the way one treats kin, strangers, and enemies along the way. How grateful I am that Richard Mouw is in the world, and how glad I am that he has written this book." --Krista Tippett,  executive producer and host, On Being and The Civil Conversations Project

I'm such a hoe for him. I haven't watched the movie yet and I already know he'll be a favourite just like August Walker. Actually, I feel like Major Gus will be as ruthless as August but with the heart of Cap Syverson 😍

"Between him no longer attracting anyone and the latest Hollywood projects, it doesn't surprise me."
Argylle and MOUW were bad for Henry, but not in this way.
Argylle was going to bomb regardless. Matthew Vaughn only has two modes: really good and really bad. Argylle was Really Bad, it's why he struggled to get a distributor. He tried to pull off a clever ruse that he didn't know how to pull off and unfortunately for him Apple is not terribly concerned with their theatre releases not doing well or the occasional project not doing well, when so many others do. Ministry of Ungentlemenly Warfare was a passion project for Ritchie. He didn't go into it expecting to make a blockbuster or attempting to make a blockbuster; he just wanted to make a film and he's got the reputation where studios will easily throw money at him. How well it did or not wasn't at all on his priority list. He made the movie he wanted, was happy with it, and moved on with his life.
The reason these were bad for Henry is because it shows how terrible he still is at sourcing work. With Argylle he saw "franchise" and jumped on, because that's his schtick (Witcher was the same thing, don't kid yourself into thinking it was some passion project when it took him meeting the showrunner to actually touch the books). That's also why he's trying to make Highlander and Warhammer. He thinks franchises are the way to go. Working with Guy was so he could ride the coattails, again he has a reputation in the industry that the occasional bomb doesn't affect him. It's no different than him having dinner with Tom Cruise, it's all hoping either a franchise or a name bigger than his will save his sinking ship. He doesn't have natural acting talent and he's never bothered to invest in developing any.
Hollywood works in two ways. On one side there are the auteur films (genres) and on the other side the blockbusters. It is much more advantageous to act in a film that does not work if it is a genre film than a blockbuster. Besides, rare are the big budget films that are recognized in Hollywood.
The only thing Henry has is his looks and even that he seems to neglect. Blockbusters are just slot machines in Hollywood. Even if the authors want Henry, it is the productions that have the last word. Even Martin Scorsese can't sit at the table of big producers. At that time, he still had the aura of his role in the Witcher and by extension Superman and Mission Impossible, now it's over. Even those who watch it from afar see it as a failure, so imagine for those who finance the films! Playing in Voltron is really an admission of failure.
The Rock wants to make auteur films, just like Tom Cruise who works again with genre auteurs, so... 🤔

vriendschapsbrief
allerliefste,
wist je al
dat ik je de aarde gun?
en de zon en de sterren en de maan
en alle clichés die er maar bestaan?
voor jou haal ik ze allemaal
maar het meeste gun ik je nog
dezelfde liefde
zoals jij
al het liefs
van mij

God rules. God reigns. God is Lord over all. He is the eternal king. If affirming these realities makes me a theocrat, then so be it!
One contemporary worship song, Ancient of Days, nicely encapsulates some of these wonderful and marvellous biblical truths, based on texts such as Psalm 2, Philippians 2, and Revelation 22:
Blessing and honor, glory and power Be unto the Ancient of Days From every nation, all of creation Bow before the Ancient of Days Every tongue in heaven and earth Shall declare Your glory Every knee shall bow at Your throne in worship You will be exalted, oh God And Your kingdom shall not pass away Oh, Ancient of Days Your kingdom shall reign over all the earth Sing unto the Ancient of Days For none can compare to Your matchless worth Sing unto the Ancient of Days
There is plenty of debate on things like theocracy, theonomy, church-state relations, and related beliefs. I have written on these matters many times before, but here I want to draw upon two Christian thinkers, both within the Reformed camp, but with some obvious differences. Both have repeatedly spoken to the reality of the Lordship of Christ over all of life.
Richard Mouw
The first is Richard Mouw, the former president of Fuller Theological Seminary who is now at Calvin University in Grand Rapids, Michigan. I have discussed him and...
