The old Montreal Forum, home of the Canadiens, before they chopped it up into a weird mall and AMC movie theatre.

It was originally built in the 1920s; the view in the photo here is after its 1968 renovation. Not sure how much, if any, of the original structure remains.

As a frequent destination for sports and concert events, it generated a significant ecosystem of bars and restaurants nearby, much like Chicago’s Wrigleyville streets near the ballpark.

When it was closed in 1996, that ecosystem went rapidly downhill; today, that part of Saint Catherine Street has been redeveloped into new condos and mixed use buildings.

Here’s the street out front today, and in 2007.
