I believe one of the reasons so many kids under 12 only watch loud tiktoks on their phones is because of the death of the DS, and handheld gaming in general. (Also the disappearance of wired headphones but I wanna focus on the DS)
Like sure if you wanna play handheld now there's still the Switch and maybe the steam deck but 1/ both are pricier and 2/ none of them are easy to fit in a pocket like a ds or gameboy was. Even the Switch requires internet to play SINGLE PLAYER GAMES THAT YOU DOWNLOADED if you're not at home. And most games on those are meant to be played on a tv or computer screen to spend hours at a time on, not play for 10-15mins at a time while in the bus.
But back in the DS/3DS era?? It was MEANT to be a casual handheld console to take everywhere with you. They were small and maybe the size of a phone today, even the XL models at least fit in a pocket (big pockets ig); the Switch you need at least a bag with you to carry. And the game library was PACKED. Just pokemon alone had tons of genres on that console to choose from. Also I remember the dsi game sharing thing we're if you didn't have a game you could still play like, Mario kart with someone else as long as they had the game n play as a maskass. Plus, street pass?? The 3ds was so widespread you could find at least one other person with one on your commute every day.
,,, I might have lost my train of thought in DS nostalgia.
Back to the point. If a kid wants entertainment out of home now, they only have their phone to look at. Sure some mobile games are decent nowadays but there's a difference between one time purchase on sale at a flea market you can waste hundreds of hours into with interesting cc concepts, and choosing between predatory gacha game that's supposed to eat all your money or candy-crush clone number 3967 with in-app purchases and hundreds of adds per minutes. But at least both are free right?
The morale of this post if we should give kids 3DSs again.

Random Faction Builder
How many pies do they have their proverbial fingers in? (1d10)
1-4. They are tightly focused on their singular area of influence. Roll once on the following table. 5-6. Roll twice on the following table. The first result is the field they openly deal in, or what those who know them mostly know them for. The second result is the field they are secretly trying to infiltrate or influence. 7. They serve as a mediary between two spheres, or between certain groups within two spheres. Roll twice on the following table. 8. Roll three times on the following table. The first two results are the fields they openly deal in, or what those who know them mostly know them for. The third result is the field they are secretly trying to infiltrate or influence. 9. They’re jugglers, jacks of all trades. Roll three times on the following table for areas they regularly deal in, plus one time for a field they have their sights on breaking into. 10. They’re everywhere. Roll once on the following table for the one circle they can’t show their faces in anymore.
1d6 Circles of Influence:
1. Government/Politics/Law Enforcement 2. Religion/Faith/Cults 3. Crime/Black Market/Underworld 4. Guilds/Trades/Organized Labor 5. Business/Merchants/Corporations 6. Knowledge/Information/Research
Now, roll 4d6 and assign one die to each of the following attributes, then look at the total on the last table:
Group Size
1. Just a few people devoted to a cause. 2. Enough people that it’s hard to get them all in a meeting together, but not enough people to really split into multiple sub-groups. 3. Enough people to crew a large vessel 4. A pretty big group, church congregation sized. 5. Enough people to populate a neighborhood. 6. If this entire group mobilized it would be a full-scale army.
Financial Power
1. Broke. It’d be a dream just to break even. 2. Surviving. They can get what they need, but can’t afford to expand or to have a large unforeseen expense. 3. Middling. Can use money to further their agenda but must be selective about doing so. 4. Comfortable. This group can afford to make investments. 5. Well-off. Their investments are paying off. 6. Rolling in it. They can solve most problems by throwing money at them.
Age of Faction
1. Brand new. This faction hasn’t existed long enough to have done anything of note. 2. Recent. This faction is probably still made up mostly of founding members, but has had time to make a name for itself. 3. Established. People remember this faction being founded. It may have some original members, but if it does they are old. 4. Pretty Old. This group was established before the oldest currently living generation was born, but in the lifetime of their parents or grandparents. 5. Old. This group was founded hundreds of years ago and has played a roll in many historical events. 6. Ancient. This group may predate the current civilization, and is seen all throughout history books.
Expertise
1. Bumbling. This group is incompetent and lacks basic knowledge. 2. Shoddy. They know just enough to get themselves into trouble. 3. Mediocre. There are no experts in this group but they have meaningful skills. 4. Competent. This group employs some actual experts but still has real gaps in their abilities. 5. Highly skilled. They may not be the absolute best in the business but this group can use skill to address most challenges. 6. Only the Best. This group has a reputation for their expertise.
Total - Overall Faction Influence
4-8  Nobodies. Who even are these losers? 9-12  Small fish in a big pond. This faction has an impact on certain individuals or niches, but are still unimportant enough that none of the big players pay them any mind 13-16  Up and Coming. Enough influence that they need to be careful not to upset the highest tier factions lest they get squashed. 17-20  The big leagues. This faction has a great deal of power but is not infallible. 21-24  Powerhouses. If there is only one faction at this level, they are functionally in charge of the society. If there are multiple factions at this level, their conflicts and machinations can have devastating fallout for ordinary people.

There’s No Aggression Like Passive Aggression
“So is this a food plant, or a decoration plant?” I asked, adjusting my grip on the clear case as I walked. “Or do we know?”
Zhee flicked an antenna. “Not my business.” He faced forward, businesslike, but with bug eyes that size, there was no need to turn his head.
Paint looked up from elbow height. “I think it’s food,” she said, giving the package a discerning stare. The alien flowers were a similar orange to her scales. “I’ve seen these at markets before. They’re expensive.”
“Makes sense,” I said. The private estate that we’d been walking across for some time now was covered in the most rigidly cultivated berry bushes I’d ever seen. Even the pathway was paved in thick moss, pruned to within an inch of its life. The owner of this place had both money and a fondness for plants. Especially edible-looking ones.
A berry dropped to the path ahead of us, then was snapped up by something that darted out of the undergrowth. I couldn’t tell you if it was an animal or a robotic gardener.
“Don’t ask the client,” Zhee said. “Keep that curiosity to yourself. Best behavior and extreme politeness.”
“Right,” I agreed. “Soooo… any tips on what that means for this particular culture? I haven’t met them before.”
Zhee walked stiffly, with only his shiny purple legs moving. “I haven’t either.”
I blinked. “What? I thought you were the expert.” I looked to Paint, but she was shaking her head.
“None of the crew has met them in person,” she said. “I think this whole area usually gets deliveries from a specific company, or individual, or something — anyways, it’s not us. We’re the last-minute replacement.”
“Uh-huh.” I held the bio-shielded case full of expensive plants a little tighter. “So they’re rich, probably important, and if we do anything to displease them, we’ll never make another delivery in this part of the system again.”
Zhee clicked a pincher arm. “Accurate.”
Paint spread her scaly hands in what was probably a calming gesture. “It shouldn’t be that bad,” she said. “We’ll just hand the package over quietly, and not make a fuss. We know some things about the client.”
“Do tell,” I said. “I wasn’t up front when the captain took the call.”
Paint ticked off points by counting on her knuckles. “The client is the only one who lives here, though she throws big parties. She didn’t seem to like talking more than necessary. She has very fancy fur patterns. Prey species.” Paint looked up a bit guiltily. “I misses the name of the species, but they eat plants, and evolved with some big predators that aren’t a problem anymore. Captain Sunlight said so.”
Zhee made a quiet noise that I interpreted as confidence that they wouldn’t have been a problem for him anyways.
“So I guess we’ll be polite by keeping quiet and not making any sudden movements,” I said. Then I looked at Zhee, with his shiny exoskeleton and natural blade arms. “If she looks afraid of you, hang back.”
Zhee scoffed, but paused to let Paint and me get a single step ahead.
We reached an archway woven with multicolored vines and dangling pea pods. The hedges on either side were crisply trimmed to an absurd degree. And through it was a sprawling meadow of lounging spots, fountains, and flowering trees. Dozens of locals socialized there in absolute silence. I hadn’t heard a thing aside from the fountains.
I froze at the archway, with Paint and Zhee right beside me. A couple of the closest partygoers glanced our way, then ignored us with body language that felt pretty rude, honestly.
They all had elaborately-patterned fur: mostly spots and swirls, in the gold-to-brown range. Proportions that seemed just as comfortable on all fours as on two. Tall ears like many a prey animal that I’d known, very mobile and expressive, speaking a language of tilts and twitches that I could only guess at. Big eyes.
Paint whispered, “That’s her by the big fountain, with the starburst swirl patterns.”
“Which? Oh, there. You’re sure?” Those definitely were some fancy patterns — did she get her fur dyed? — and the cushy spot surrounded by red berries did seem like a place of honor.
“Yes, I saw her on the call,” Paint said firmly. “Oh, and that one too! The captain said they’re having some sort of feud.” She pointed at an especially bright-furred party-goer who was approaching the host.
I shifted uneasily. “Why isn’t the captain doing this delivery?” I muttered.
“Busy,” said Zhee.
Paint sighed. “Busy. But look; I think they made up. We should be clear to approach.”
The golden-blonde local had strolled over to within a few lengths of the host, then flopped down to lounge in the sun, looking just as relaxed as anyone there.
Anyone but the host. I saw her nostrils flare, and thought of rabbits.
“Wait,” I said urgently, holding out a hand. Paint and Zhee stopped. “That might be a ‘I’m a happier rabbit than you’ move.”
“A what,” Zhee said, just as the host scrambled to her feet with an angry thump to the ground.
Every head there whipped around to watch. The blonde offender was also getting to her feet, but not fast enough; the host tackled her into a vicious tumble of fur and angry screeching.
Others dashed over, but the fight ended quickly, and the offender was ejected from the party. A half dozen others escorted her towards the archway with tense body language of their own.
We were still standing there like idiots. Paint and I jumped to one side and Zhee to the other, letting the procession pass. Once they had, everyone was looking at us instead.
Not my best entrance, but here goes, I thought as I stepped forward with the plant held front and center. I heard Paint and Zhee fall in behind me.
There was an unnerving amount of silent staring as we approached, but nothing outright hostile, and nobody seemed afraid of Zhee. Good enough.
The host of the party was back on her mossy cushion, plucking berries and eating them one at a time with an air of deliberate haughtiness. She’d smoothed her fur, though there were a few damp spots. She looked past me as I set down the case.
Normally I would have said something cheerful to the client at this point, a friendly greeting, maybe a compliment or two, but this time I just held out the ID pad. With hardly a glance, she pressed her delicately clawed hand onto the screen. The beep of confirmation felt loud.
I nodded, stood smoothly, then backed up a couple paces before turning away fully. The three of us made our careful way back through the archway.
“Whew,” I whispered once we were out of sight. “All the friendliness of a firing squad.”
Zhee walked ahead, muttering about mammals and unnecessarily complicated social rituals.
“I’ve seen worse,” I told him. “This was just a bit of passive-aggressive ego drama.”
Zhee waved an arm in disdain.
I didn’t comment on the kind of ego drama that he himself was fond of.
“I’m just glad we didn’t walk out into the middle of all that,” Paint said.
“Seriously,” I agreed. “Might have dropped the package. And then what would we do?”
“Pee, scream, and run,” Paint declared.
I thought of that many gnawing teeth aimed in our direction. “Yeah, probably.” I held up a hand and pointed out a tiny pale scar. “I got bit by a rabbit once. Well, more than once, but this one left a mark. She was much like these guys, just a lot smaller. Every inch the princess, mind you, but I have known some very nice rabbits too.”
I told Paint comforting stories on the walk back to the landing pad, with Zhee pretending not to listen, and both of us pretending that we didn’t notice.

Adjustable binder recs? (and one for sale)
Nearly twenty years ago, I purchased a T-Kingdom binder with side Velcro closure (style pictured below) to use for my crossplays. It's done an admirable job over the years, but after almost two decades of use the elastic is wearing out, so it's time to replace it.
Tumblr media
Since I hadn't really kept up with developments in this area, I did a bunch of reading up on binders, since there are SO MANY more on the market now than the two brands (T-Kingdom and Underworks) that existed back in the early 2000s. I looked at dozens of rating blogs and product reviews, and I ordered a few of the more popular models to try.
They... did not work for me. At all. (Ow.)
So then I tried to order another binder from T-Kingdom, since I know I can wear theirs comfortably. But the site's shopping cart is broken, and their contact form is broken, and I emailed them directly and they have never responded, so I'm guessing they're either defunct or don't want my money.
Trouble is, nobody else seems to make the model I need. So, crowdsourcing it is! If anyone has suggestions or knows where I can get a binder that meets the following criteria, please chime in:
It CAN NOT be a fitted pullover style. I have spine damage that limits my shoulder and neck mobility; I can't even get a sports bra on over my shoulders, much less a tight-fitting binder. It can go on loose over the head and then zip or Velcro or hook or whatever once it's on, but it can't go on tight.
Adjustable compression preferred. While manual compression is not recommended for everyone, I have enough experience binding to know how not to hurt myself, and I would like to be able to adjust the fit throughout the day to change the pressure on my spine. I like the Velcro closure on my current binder, but I'm open to other styles if they work well.
It needs to be able to flatten huge... tracts of land. I'm a D-cup plus. I need a lot of smooshing power, while still having enough elasticity to allow comfortable breathing.
Actual before-and-after binding photos, to give you an idea of what I'm working with/aiming for:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I may be looking for a unicorn (or at least a model only made by a company that doesn't answer their email), but hopefully someone in my network will have something to recommend. I'm even willing to try making my own, if I can find the right materials -- though I'm not sure where to get those massive, industrial-strength elastic panels that most high-compression binders seem to be made of.
Thanks for any suggestions or recommendations you may have!
The "One For Sale" bit
As mentioned above, I tried several binders that didn't work for me. I was able to return all of them except for one: I have a size L gc2b Nude No. 4 half binder that was on my body for approximately a minute and a half and will never, ever go on it again (this was the one pullover style I tried, and I actually hurt myself getting into/out of it. Stupid spine :P).
Since it's never been used, I'd like to recoup most of my cost, but I'd rather offer it to the cosplay community than just put it up on eBay or something. I paid $42 ($29.75 plus gc2b's flat rate shipping). It can be yours for $29 with local/at-con pickup, $34 shipped within the contiguous USA, or outside that area if you cover the difference in shipping cost (I have cheap international rates through my business account, so this would likely be around $10 more). If you're interested, send me a DM!

You haven't answered my other V ask so you might be wanting to move on from this topic but I just have to ask. Don't you find 10 million USD on album sales excessive?? I'm talking about V's fanbase by the way. Isn't that money amount obscene to believe? Not to sound too conspiracy minded Peachy, but how can a kpop fanbase raise that amount of money? Can they do that through legal means or should sane people be worried? Also don't you think armys are acting irresponsible wasting that money on albums that they don't use when they could be using it for charity instead? I really respect your thoughts so I'm hoping to read your reply. Thank you in advance Peachy.
***
So... you're asking me how a fandom that raised $1 million USD in 24 hours for a Black Lives Matter charity with zero notice btw, how the fandom that raised $100,000 USD in hours for charity in Megan Thee Stallion's name, can raise $10 million USD over a three-year period for albums?
It's basic arithmetic, is it not?
I guess it seems like a lot of money for someone uninformed on just how big the k-pop market is and on how much k-pop fans typically spend on comebacks (note: solo fanbase funds for Seventeen and Stray Kids easily exceeded $15 million USD this year, and it's reflected in their album sales). Also, I'm not sure how long you've been following me Anon, but when I talk about the size of ARMY fandom in absolute numbers, when we discuss things like fandom dynamics that replicate those seen in political systems, or insane ticketing rituals that are more complicated than those used by the Bey-hive, and merch prices etc, what scale exactly, are you picturing when I mention these things?
ARMYs are a lot of people. Lol I'm not sure you understand. And many ARMYs in my circle are working professionals and audiophiles who didn't blink when it came up in conversation that I've spent > $45,000 on speakers. Not trying to be a bitch, but I do think it's important context to know the demographics of the fandom, and to know most ARMYs just buy one or a few albums for themselves. Those with the means carry the bulk of the donations, however ARMYs huge absolute numbers also mean even micro-transactions or donations from people who perhaps cannot afford more, are several magnitudes more than in other k-pop fandoms. The ARMY fandom is literally constantly growing, and that's why BigHit can realistically stagger seven solo debuts in a one-year period and all seven artists will still outperform active k-pop groups.
"Also don't you think armys are acting irresponsible wasting that money on albums that they don't use when they could be using it for charity instead?"
I'm not sure I like your tone here. (1) Because it's pretty clear ARMYs can damn well do what they want with their money. It's incredibly patronizing to presume to know what other fans individually value or to dictate how you think other people should spend their own money, to presume nobody here can think for themselves to know what and how best to spend their earned income. We're in a hobby space, anyone who's already opened a fan account/blog is already in too deep no point sugarcoating it. We're here because we want to be and are getting something we still deem worthwhile for our own pleasure. So what if we spend whatever the fuck we want on our hobbies as within what we deem as appropriate? And (2) ARMYs already and comfortably do both. There's no k-pop fandom that's as heavily involved in charitable causes as ARMY. Take it from someone who's been around. Do you think mobilizing a fandom of hundreds of thousands of people to raise $1 million in 24 hours would be possible if that culture and the fundraising channels didn't already exist?
And this was before Dynamite. Before 60% of the fandom that's already here, joined.
The only place I agree with you, is in that a solo fanbase was so involved and could raise that amount of money in the first place. Because giving influence to solos is just a recipe for disaster. In my experience, akgaes are just fundamentally less intelligent people. Akgaes and solo stans or people who lean towards solo stanning (not including casual fans), are also more reactionary and impulsive, verbally/emotionally abusive, paranoid and prone to conspiratorial thinking. These are people with nearly zero ordered thinking skills and unwavering tunnel vision. They won't think twice about applying blatantly illegal methods or acting rashly if it means getting the result they want. If there's ever a massive scandal on the fandom or BTS, I can almost guarantee you it will be because an akgae fucked up or went too far. Also, I'm actually not certain all the funds raised by Taehyung's fanbase did so through legal means. That's what I mean about solo stans. Too many of them are literally just that stupid. And I mean, just by virtue of being a C-bar, it's fairly common for some bars to be linked to members of wealthy/political families in China and SEA. There's only ever been rumours, but it wouldn't surprise if it were true that some money involved was made by illegal means.
Which is one reason I hold on to my hope that people will refrain from partnering with solos, regardless of how things evolve for BTS, but given the way things are going, by 2026 the fandom will likely be a 65 : 35 ARMY : solo ratio, from what I assume to be 90 : 10 now. It's kinda bleak actually. But it is what it is.
Jikook will still be jikooking anyway and the music will still be dope. So BTS and HYBE will keep getting my money.

Because being in a military family means moving all the time, the Air Force hires movers to pack our things and load a truck. We're doing a partial move this time to help facilitate the sale of our house. So movers are here packing 80% of our things today and tomorrow, and then they'll load a truck and put our stuff into storage on Friday.
That will leave the weekend to rearrange what we have left, and then on Monday and Tuesday a painter and handyman will stop by to freshen up our paint and fix a few things. Then we'll get photographs and list the house.
I have never sold a house before, so I'm trying not to be the world's most miserable person through this process because I know it's awful for everyone, and we have people who are doing a lot of the work for us. The reward on the other end is a downpayment on our (hopefully) new house. It's amazing to see how investing (in the loosest sense of the term) in property is truly wealth-building. We bought two houses with VA loans, which means we didn't have to have a downpayment for either house. Now we're selling one and buying another (is my life Monopoly?) and because we have a lot of equity in the house we're selling, and because the house will likely sell for a lot more than we bought it, we'll have a nice-sized downpayment for this house we're buying in Alabama. Of course, the market is also much more expensive, but that doesn't change the fact that because we were able to buy one property, we can buy another, and so on as long as nothing disastrous happens to the housing market.
So many things about military service exist to give service members ladders into the middle class or even upper middle class. It's one of the last "companies" in the U.S. that you can use to facilitate an upward progression of socio-economic mobility. I really hitched a ride as spectator to this, even though it affects my life too obviously, but Dominic was a college dropout with no family money or support who enlisted in the late 90s. Through military programs he was able to finish college, commission as an officer, and get two graduate degrees. Through the GI Bill, he's paid for some of his college, and the rest he can transfer to family members. When we bought our first house (the one we're now selling) we were poor and had no savings, but using a VA loan meant we didn't need a downpayment. And just like that we got our foot into the door (haha) of the housing market.
There's a lot to criticize about the predatory way the military can behave with poor, oftentimes people of color who feel like the military is a last resort, but I've also seen how the structure of the military can take someone bright and ambitious like my husband and give them the tools they need to be very, very successful. My spouse did not grow up with people who had the resources to give him a leg up. I did. But he didn't.
Anyway, now I'm just rambling, but I'm constantly amazed by how an institution I find so problematic can also be a shining example of American progress. It's very socialist! The U.S. military is THE most socialist institution in this country imo--or at least the biggest.

Old Friends
Spamton sat quietly at his desk, no longer the office dedicated entirely to him, but just a small work station in the wing of the mansion designated for the marketing team. Everyone else had ran when the announcement came over the speakers that ASO was back, but Spamton just continued typing away, his iconic neon glasses crackling with static. He didn’t particularly know how to feel about The Founder’s return, or the fact he was now being watched 24/7 by a man who already didn’t like him. All he knew was work was money, and money was his key to not ending back in that same god damn dumpster all over again … alone, starving, cold.
His concentration was interrupted by the lights in the room he was working in cutting out, bathing him in darkness. He raised his voice. “HE-H-HEY!! WUTZ thE BIG [[Deals, Deals, so many Deals!]] WHO CUT OUT TH3 >liGHTs?!”
For a beat, silence … followed by footsteps coming from an open window in the room. Spamton produced a pipis, holding it above his head like a grenade ready to be thrown. “[[Show thyself]] YOU [[Hateful Shrew!]] I’VE G0T A [[pipis]] AND I’M NOT AFRAID 2 [[pull the pin, pop it in the bowl-]]!!”
The voice that responded to him was distantly familiar, someone he knew before being exiled by The Founder. “Come now, Spamton, is that really any way to treat me? You slighted against me once, but that was a long, long time ago.”
Multicolored lights emerged from the darkness, forming the outline of a tall, corvid butler in a pristine suit. Though mechanically modified somehow, Spamton couldn’t mistake a familiar face when he saw it in front of him. This was Swatch, clear as day. It seemed despite The First Unit’s failure to locate them before being overthrown, that lost time was made up for now. But … why were they back? Spamton looked on with suspicion. “UR A BIT LATE [[buddy pal chum amigo brother homeslice breadslice dawg]]. THE NICER [[Man in The Big Chair]] WAS LO0KIN’ FOR [[Only youuuuuuuu…]], BUT NOW THEY’VE [[bee]]N-”
“Taken back down a peg, yes, I know. A being relying on resonance is bound to lose on the grounds of resonance … it’s just sort of a given. I’m here now because I fear that with the new harvester resonance that’s being transmitted, we can no longer rely on fighting Heinrich on his own battlefield.”
Spamton seemed confused. “HEINRICH? [[Guess Who]]’S TH4T?”
Swatch paused, and let out a quiet frustrated sigh. “The Founder, Spamton. You’d think that being one of his department heads at one point you would know your boss by his first name.”
“THE LESS [[Question 1: What is the powerhouse of-]] 1 ASKED, THE MORE [[delicious]] [[KROMER]] I WAS PAID!”
They held up a hand as a sign to stop arguing. “The point is, I’m taking the fight directly to ASO, and I need your help. Not for your physical prowess, Knight’s blade no…”
“H3Y!!!”
“…but rather because you are weirdly capable of inserting yourself into technology. So … here’s the deal. I’m recreating the NEO suit, but better than last time. More defense, even more sundering offense, greater mobility, I could go on … If I allow you to take control of it, and you use it to help me take down ASO and get this place back under control … you can keep the suit.” Saying that sentence very visibly made Swatch uncomfortable.
Spamton, on the other hand was ecstatic. The little puppet jumped around the room, his head growing in size as he laughed and laughed and laughed joyously. Eventually he sprinted back up to Swatch and shook their hand incredibly fast. He did note, through his joy fueled frenzy, that Swatch’s hand was oddly cold and smooth …“HAEHAEHAEHAEHAE! ALRIGHT [[Bird brain]], U GOT YOURSELF A DE4L!!! [[H e a v e n]], SPAMT-SPAMTON’S COMING!! U CAN’t KEEP HIM [[25% Off on Choice Padlocks]] FOR EVER!”
Swatch groaned, immediately regretting their decision to do this.

How To Develop A Fintech App In 2024?
FinTech, short for financial technology, represents innovative solutions and products that enhance and streamline financial services. These innovations span online payments, money management, financial planning applications, and insurance services. By leveraging modern technologies, FinTech aims to compete with and often complement traditional financial institutions, improving economic data processing and bolstering customer security through advanced fraud protection mechanisms.
Booming FinTech Market: Key Highlights And Projections
Investment Growth In FinTech
In 2021, FinTech investments surged to $91.5 billion.
This represents nearly double the investment amount compared to 2020.
The significant increase highlights the rapid expansion and investor interest in the global FinTech market.
Projected Growth In Financial Assets Managed By FinTech Companies
By 2028, financial assets managed by FinTech firms are expected to reach $400 billion.
This projection indicates a 15% increase from current levels, showcasing the potential for substantial growth in the sector.
Usage Of Online Banking
About 62.5% of Americans used online banking services in 2022.
This figure is expected to rise as more consumers adopt digital financial services.
Key FinTech Trends In 2024
1. Banking Mobility
The transition from traditional in-person banking to mobile and digital platforms has been significantly accelerated, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. The necessity for remote banking options has driven a surge in the adoption of smartphone banking apps. Digital banking services have become indispensable, enabling customers to manage their finances without needing to visit physical bank branches.
According to a report by Statista, the number of digital banking users in the United States alone is expected to reach 217 million by 2025. Many conventional banks are increasingly integrating FinTech solutions to bolster their online service offerings, enhancing user experience and accessibility.
2. Use Of Artificial Intelligence (AI)
AI in Fintech Market size is predicted at USD 44.08 billion in 2024 and will rise at 2.91% to USD 50.87 billion by 2029. AI is at the forefront of the FinTech revolution, providing substantial advancements in financial data analytics, customer service, and personalized financial products. AI-driven applications enable automated data analysis, the creation of personalized dashboards, and the deployment of AI-powered chatbots for customer support. These innovations allow FinTech companies to offer more tailored and efficient services to their users.
3. Development Of Crypto And Blockchain
The exploration and integration of cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies remain pivotal in the FinTech sector. Blockchain, in particular, is heralded for its potential to revolutionize the industry by enhancing security, transparency, and efficiency in financial transactions.
The global blockchain market size was valued at $7.4 billion in 2022 and is expected to reach $94 billion by 2027, according to MarketsandMarkets. These technologies are being utilized for improved regulatory compliance, transaction management, and the development of decentralized financial systems.
4. Democratization Of Financial Services
FinTech is playing a crucial role in making financial services more transparent and accessible to a broader audience. This trend is opening up new opportunities for businesses, retail investors, and everyday users. The rise of various digital marketplaces, money management tools, and innovative financing models such as digital assets is a testament to this democratization.
5. Products For The Self-Employed
The increasing prevalence of remote work has led to a heightened demand for FinTech solutions tailored specifically for self-employed individuals and freelancers. These applications offer a range of features, including tax monitoring, invoicing, financial accounting, risk management, and tools to ensure financial stability.
According to Intuit, self-employed individuals are expected to make up 43% of the U.S. workforce by 2028, underscoring the growing need for specialized financial products for this demographic. FinTech companies are responding by developing apps and platforms that address the unique financial needs of the self-employed, facilitating smoother and more efficient financial management.
Monetization of FinTech Apps
1. Subscription Model
FinTech apps can utilize a subscription model, which offers users a free trial period followed by a recurring fee for continued access. This model generates revenue based on the number of active subscribers, with options for monthly or annual payments. It ensures a steady income stream as long as users find the service valuable enough to continue their subscription.
2. Financial Transaction Fees
Charging fees for financial transactions, such as virtual card usage, bank transfers, currency conversions, and payments for third-party services, can be highly lucrative. This model capitalizes on the volume of transactions processed through the app, making it a significant revenue generator.
3. Advertising
In-app advertising can provide a consistent revenue stream. Although it may receive criticism, strategically placed banners or video ads can generate substantial income without significantly disrupting the user experience.
Types Of FinTech Apps
1. Digital Banking Apps
Digital banking apps enable users to manage their bank accounts and financial services without visiting a physical branch. These apps offer comprehensive services such as account management, fund transfers, mobile payments, and loan applications, ensuring transparency and 24/7 access.
2. Payment Processing Apps
Payment processing apps act as intermediaries, facilitating transactions between payment service providers and customers. These apps enhance e-commerce by enabling debit and credit card transactions and other online payment methods, supporting small businesses in particular.

Is Your Mobile App Idea Worth Building? A Definitive Guide to Help You Decide
Tumblr media
So you have a fantastic mobile app idea! You're brimming with enthusiasm and ready to dive into development. But before you invest significant time and resources, take a step back and ask yourself: Is this app idea truly worth building?
This crucial question can save you from costly mistakes. Here at Net-Craft.com, a leading mobile app development company in Scottsdale, Arizona, we've helped numerous businesses navigate the app development journey. Through this guide, we'll equip you with the tools to assess your app idea and make an informed decision.
1. Market Validation: Is There a Need for Your App?
The first step in Scottsdale App Development is understanding the market landscape. A brilliant idea might not find success if there's no real need for it. Here's how to validate your concept:
Market Research: Conduct thorough market research to understand the target audience, their needs, and existing solutions. Look for trends, pain points, and opportunities for your app to fill a gap in the market.
Competitive Analysis: Analyze existing apps in your niche. What features do they offer? What are their strengths and weaknesses? How can your app differentiate itself and provide a superior user experience?
Target Audience Validation: Talk to potential users! Conduct surveys, focus groups, or user interviews to gauge their interest in your app concept. Get real-world feedback on its features and functionalities.
2. Value Proposition: Does Your App Solve a Problem?
Every successful app solves a problem or fulfills a need for its users. Ask yourself: What value does your app bring to the table?
Unique Selling Proposition (USP): Identify your app's USP – what sets it apart from existing solutions? Does it offer greater efficiency, provide exclusive features, or cater to a specific niche within the market?
User Benefits: Clearly define the benefits your app offers to users. Will it save them time, money, or effort? Will it improve their well-being, productivity, or entertainment? Focus on tangible benefits that resonate with your target audience.
3. Business Model: How Will Your App Generate Revenue?
Before diving into Mobile App Development Scottsdale, consider your app's monetization strategy. There are several options:
Freemium Model: Offer a basic version of your app for free, with premium features or in-app purchases available for a fee.
Subscription Model: Provide access to your app's full functionality through a paid subscription.
In-App Advertising: Generate revenue by displaying targeted ads within your app.
In-App Purchases: Sell digital goods or services within your app.
Choose a monetization model that aligns with your app's value proposition and target audience.
4. App Development Feasibility: Can You Build It Within Budget and Time Constraints?
A fantastic app idea can be hampered by technical limitations or unrealistic development timelines and budgets. Here's what to consider:
Technical Feasibility: Assess the technical complexity of your app idea. Does it require specialized features or integrate with complex technologies? Ensure your chosen app development company in Scottsdale has the expertise and resources to handle the project.
Development Cost: Get an estimate of the development costs involved. Factor in factors like app complexity, development team size, and desired features. This will help you determine if your project aligns with your budget and financial goals.
Development Timeline: Consider the estimated time frame for development. Is it realistic given your business goals and market launch window?
5.Long-Term Vision: Is There a Sustainable Growth Plan?
Mobile app development in Scottsdale is not a one-time project. Consider your long-term vision for the app:
Scalability: Will your app be able to accommodate a growing user base? Consider the technology stack and architecture to ensure scalability.
Monetization Strategy Sustainability: Is your chosen monetization strategy sustainable in the long run? Can it generate enough revenue to cover development and maintenance costs while allowing for future growth?
Marketing and User Acquisition Plan: How will you reach your target audience and acquire new users? Develop a comprehensive marketing and user acquisition strategy to keep your app thriving.

DAMN THAT APP!
Forget paper flyers and static billboards – the business world has gone mobile, and small businesses are riding the wave like never before. In 2023, over 3.5 billion smartphone users globally spend an average of 4 hours per day glued to their screens, and a whopping 70% of all digital media consumption happens on mobile devices. This isn't just a fad; it's a fundamental shift in how customers discover, interact with, and transact with businesses.
And guess what? Small businesses are no longer playing catch-up. A recent App Annie report revealed that 73% of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) now have a mobile app.
With such a high demand, software development for businesses can be the most reliable way to make money. Although they do not contribute to the direct sale of goods and services, they have a significant impact on the operations of all types of businesses. A workforce adapting to the use of technology will undoubtedly look for programs to help systematize their daily tasks. Every part and activity of a business can be improved in terms of ease and efficiency with the help of software.
Inspired by these big fish in the market, you have an entrepreneurial vision to start a mobile app development company for small businesses. But starting an app development business requires dedication, diligence and in-depth knowledge of the industry and your target market. With the right talent, team and strategy, you can build a successful business that delivers cutting-edge applications to customers.
The mobile app gold rush is far from over. The global app market is projected to reach a staggering $268 billion by 2027, with the SMB segment growing at an even faster pace. But before you jump headfirst into development, remember – the competition is fierce.

I don't think I have a ton of followers, but for those who are here, below the cut is basically a very long think piece on jcink skinning that will probably offend a lot of people, but it's my honest take and I'm willing to hear other people's constructively expressed criticisms, and am very open to revising my opinion. I just was surprised by the SOPs I found in the jcink rpc when I started writing this skin and was doing research into whether I wanted to try selling it or not. For anyone wondering about the future the TLDR is as follows: I will probably make another skin and sell it as a multisale and see how that goes. This will probably happen a long time from now. I will probably never take custom commissions. I will probably charge more than people would like for my skins, but I think I have good reasons for that. More below the cut on the actual thoughts.
There were a few obstacles that became immediately obvious when beginning to work on a jcink skin for the first time.
First off, jcink is imo fundamentally bugged.
It has a slow initial load time even on the default skin, always over a second, usually over 2 in my testing. Industry standard is .5, and php (the backend language of jcink's templating system, and i assume the databases), though old, is perfectly capable of meeting that threshold. I personally find this an infuriating fact about jcink, especially since I can do nothing about it.
There are two distinct skins on any site by default, neither of which are responsive. Responsiveness basically refers to whether or not a website looks good regardless of screen size. It's a universal concern in any modern tech company. I understand that when jcink was first written, a lot of what's possible today wasn't available, however we are long since past the time (in my opinion) that it would have been simple for John to reskin the default view of jcink to be responsive and provide that as an alternative to the og defaults. If nothing else, this would provide a better standard for what a 'functional' skin might look like, and maybe even a baseline for people to build off of. Instead we have tables which are generally unusable in modern web design.
Jcink is also not terribly accessible by default. I found text labels missing in several places (for screen reader users), no keyboard accessibility on a few default functions (for people who can't use a mouse), and of course, nothing in the docs to remind people to keep what features there are in the default skin.
Then we have the added complications of the jcink rpc community, the skinners and coder in general within the space. I think I can break down my thoughts on this into three main categories: Price, Product, and People. I have a lot of thoughts about these topics, so bear with me.
Price
Look me in the eyes. Not one single skinner I could find was charging a market rate for front end web development. The most expensive person I could find wasn't even asking for 25% of the money a front end website developer would make for a skin professionally, and I found them because people were putting them on blast for charging as much as they did. The jcink rpc has been getting bargain basement prices on code for EVER, and seems to have NO concept of the time and complexity of writing actually good code.
I have mixed feelings on this.
I have not seen a professional grade skin in the wild, not once, not even my own. The css on my skin is sloppy. There are areas I got a serious case of the fuckits on and wrote some ugly code. There's at least one info page on my site that looks weird af on mobile and I have no intention of fixing it. I say this with love, compassion, and appreciation for everyone who codes for this community. Not one single jcink skin I have ever interacted with would constitute a professional level of work in my field. No one whose work I have interacted with (again, including my own!!) should be charging a fully professional rate.
This is a hobby. We do this for fun. We shouldn't be in an arms race for the prettiest skins, but we are. People like nice interfaces, it will affect their decision to consider or nope out of a site. So, we're in a situation that for a 'not boring' skin, custom skinning has become much more of a norm. In order to have a successful site, admins generally need to invest in a decent skin. With a custom skin, you can easily get to $250 in cost, and I've seen it go quite high from there. That's a lot of money for a site which may not survive. That's a big fuckin' deal. Some people are serial site starters so if one fails, that's fine, the skin can be reused, but I personally have not adminned a site since 2016 until a month ago. If I had sunk $250 into a skin, plus $80 for jcink premium for a site that never took off, suddenly my 'free' hobby becomes quite dear. I think it's only right that there be a certain degree of friendliness in the community when it comes to pricing because of this, even for truly professional coders (again, of which I've seen zero). Skinners are part of the ecosystem and deserve to be properly valued. Admins shouldn't have to pay out the ass just to have a better chance of their site taking off.
There's a great deal of risk involved in most skinning transactions I know of. First off, unlike the real world, we often don't know each other's irl identities. This makes a situation rife for scammers on both ends of the transaction- from skinners not getting paid for delivered work, and customers not getting the product they asked for, if they get it at all. This rightfully affects both parties' feelings on how to adjust pricing to account for risk. If you're a coder, prices should be higher, if you're an admin, prices should be lower. This has been more or less solved for multisales with payhip etc, but custom skins are still fraught, and in a world where plenty of players won't consider a site if they've seen the skin too much, that is still a significant chunk of the activity at play.
So do I think skinners should be paid fully professional rates? No. From what I have seen and learned, absolutely not. It didn't occur to me to track the time spent on my skin until quite late in the process, but if I had to guess I'd put it at about 40 hours worth of work. I'll talk more about this in the product section if that seems like a lot of time to you. I'll throw out a very loose figure and say that $50/hr is about right as a figure for what a professional developer would make doing this kind of work, after tax etc. If you're being responsible about the IRS, it would bump significantly higher. If you multiply that by the 40 hours I spent on my skin, we're getting into multiple thousands of dollars for a custom skin if people were charging professional rates. Now it's very possible that if I made skinning My Thing, that I'd build up a library of components I could pull on to make skins much more quickly. I know for a fact that many skinners do. But even if we say I halve my time on my second skin (optimistic but v possible), we're at $1000 if I was charging the prices I charge my employer to keep me on board. That is CLEARLY unsustainable for a hobby centric community where money never gets involved. So what should pricing look like? I really think that depends on the product.
Product
So. I think there's some room for honest reflection in jcink skinning communities about what is being sold. To contextualize this, I have to lay out the basics of what my general mindset is around what makes a website good for its users.
The obvious one, and the one that I think gets the most attention in jcink skinning is aesthetics. How a site looks, whether it's pretty, etc. I think this is important, I care about things looking good, but out of these five concerns, this one is frankly last on my list of what's important.
UX Design/Functionality. No, this is not the same as aesthetics. Is a site easy to understand, use and navigate. Does it make it seamless for a user to get where they want. Does it provide the contextual information they expect from the page they're visiting. These questions are fundamental for me, and I'd rather have a well designed user experience, than a well designed asethetic experience on a site.
Accessibility. Is a site readable. IS A SITE READABLE. IS A SITE READABLE. Is there enough contrast on a page that a colorblind user could read it? Can you navigate it with a keyboard? How about a screenreader? Is the text large enough for standard screen sizes. Does it stay large enough across devices?
Responsiveness. If someone on a phone visits my site, will they have a good experience in every view? Will they have the functionality they need? What about a tablet? What about someone with a small desktop screen, or a huge one? If I have hovers somewhere on my site, is it still navigable on mobile, or is it now an unintuitive situation? Phones take way longer to load than most computers, do all the assets (gifs, images, multiple fonts, etc) on my site make it frustrating for a mobile user to visit my pages?
Performance. When I said jcink is bugged earlier, performance was one my complaints. The base page load time of jcink is shitty. However, what's worse is when a skin takes a baseline of 2 seconds for pages to load, and bumps it up to 5, 8 or (the worst I've seen) 13 seconds to load after someone tries to visit a page. I have not seen a single jcink skin (aside from my own), which adds less than a second of loadtime to jcink's default performance. Again, in an industry where the basic standard is under half a second, jcink skins do not perform to a professional level.
If a website fails along these metrics, it cannot be considered professional for general public consumption. The problem is, everything except aesthetics requires a considerable baseline of knowledge and practice to do well. These are problems that many fortune 500 companies have not figured out (that's because their execs are dumb dinosaurs, but still). So when it comes to the question of 'how much should a skin cost', I think a skinner is obligated to consider their product. Is it aesthetically pleasing? Is it functional? Is it accessible? Is it responsive? Is it performant? For most skins, the answer to at least three of these questions is NO, and I think that pricing should reflect that. In my opinion, I think most skinners do well with asethetics, some skinners do well with functionality, and I have yet to see any truly accessible, responsive, or performant skins in the wild. When it came to writing mine, I think I needed about 5 hours to get familiar with how jcink worked, and then if I only wanted my site to look good on a desktop monitor, I probably could have spent 10-15 hours to write my skin as a noob having to look up every php variable John uses in jcink's terrible docs. That is not what I did. My skin is fully responsive, it is fully accessible, it is to my personal taste aesthetically, and is very performant (on average .25-.35 added seconds to my load time) despite having piles of functional scripts (all of which i wrote myself) on several pages. I also wrote several things that make my life and my member's lives easier. I have a member directory and face claim that require no work on my end past sorting an accepted character into the right member group. I have an autotracker built into member profiles so people can keep track of their threads. I have a button which allows members with lower end computers to turn off most graphics on the site so their computers don't sound like airplanes taking off. I have a light mode/dark mode switch that guests and members can both use. Personally, I would not feel like a freak for charging $1000 for a custom skin of this caliber. It's half what I would earn normally (using the $50/hr figure from earlier), and it lives up to all my standards for what professional code ought to do for its users vs. one or two. The css is not my best work, but I can say without undue arrogance that it's far and away easier to touch without breaking things than any other skin I've looked at, and the actual interface that people see and interact with is great. Again, the aesthetics are simple and to my taste, but it makes sense and has lots of quality of life bits and bobs in it. I'm proud of it. I understand if that entire paragraph read wildly, but I don't say any of it lightly or with the intention to belittle anyone. I'm trying to contextualize how I think about how price relates to what is actually being delivered. But even though I genuinely feel $1000 would be an excellent deal for the work I have done on my skin, I could not possibly stomach charging that much money to a single person for this skin, which (in addition to me using it on my own site) is why it is not going on sale.
To be honest, I have NO idea how much time a typical skinner spends on a custom skin. My approach is different from most people who do this for the community, and I also do adjacent work professionally and have for many years. I suspect that if asked to achieve all 5 of the above criteria, I would be able to do that significantly faster than most skinners. That said, I have no library of components I can turn to, and I hate a lot of the standard choices in building skins and would rather write my own. Isotope, cfs, etc can burn, they're bad code. There's tradeoffs to how I'd do things and how others would, which have significant impacts on time spent, but also on the outcome. Generally however, when it comes to jcink pricing, and how much people should charge or spend on a skin, I think the above 5 things should be the primary metrics. I made my own because I couldn't find a single skin that was truly accessible or responsive, and because I know how the sausage is made I simply couldn't stomach it. I can't really tell you how much you SHOULD pay for a skin that only does Aesthetics and Function, or only Function and Accessibility or any other combination. It's really not my place. I have thoughts on what I would charge, trying to be fair to myself and others if I were to make a multisale. But that's for a different post.
People
And then there's people. I touched on this earlier with some talk about scamming. I have heard horror stories on both ends of this interaction, and I think, simply speaking, it has created a lot of distrust around something which is a core decision for a lot of boards- which skinner to work with, what standards to set, how much things should cost, how to arrange payment. Payment structure has to take care of both you and the commissioner, but it also has to take into account that lots of people are gonna drive you up a wall, go ten rounds on their requirements, and then expect finished work two weeks after they finally got back to you about a core feature. With all due respect, clients who know NOTHING about tech and still have a lot of opinions on exactly how things should be done are my personal nightmare. I have not figured out any good way to account for this. I think custom commissions can be great for both the coder and the customer, but it's a total crapshoot as far as I can tell with no solve that I know of. I think there is also greater than average honesty and flexibility required from both parties in a non-professional setting(like jcink coding is) where money is still being exchanged. I think skinners have to be honest about their capabilities, their timeline, and how they want to work with customers. I think customers have to be honest about their expectations, their priorities and their consistency (are they going to change their mind frequently). I think both people need to be willing to find compromise. Since NO ONE is producing professional products and NO ONE is paying professional prices, there needs to be an understanding that sometimes things need to adjust. But, with custom skinning, it's often a lot of money for people. 250+ is a significant chunk of change. It feels wild to pay that much and not get exactly what you want. However, exactly what you want may be outside the skillset of a hobbyist, or it may simply be difficult or tedious or finicky, even for a professional. You want me to do custom svg clipping all over a skin? I'd rather die than do that during my free time. Furthermore, no skinner is being paid to do EVERYTHING that a professional site might demand. Being unhappy that you didn't get every concern addressed is not reasonable with the rates getting paid right now. There's ground to give on both sides. Flexibility is key, and it gets hard when there's money on the line.
Okay but so what?
Bish i don't know!!! Skinning is difficult niche stuff, especially if you're actually meeting any kind of professional standard. It's really easy to do badly. Paying for products where there is literally no professional available is always complicated. Idk what to tell you man. I'm just saying that I don't think anyone is getting paid a rate they deserve relative to the time they put in (probably), and simultaneously people don't get a product that lives up to the rest of the web right now because there's no real industry level professionalism available. And what's worst is that it's nobody's fault!! It's a tough spot to be in as a community! As for me, I'll probably do multisales in the future, and I'll probably charge significantly more than others because I'll be delivering significantly more. I am simply incapable of coding something that isn't responsive and accessible and performant if I'm going to charge money for it. It simply shan't happen, which means my time and skill will be reflected in the work and ergo the price. As for commissions, other people's taste irritates me too much to willingly get into typical freelancing in any capacity (affectionately, i will never be doing certain aesthetics unless people are willing to pay me my full rate, which no one should lol). I will almost certainly never do fully custom commission work. It is simultaneously not worth my time to do it for the rates offered by the jcink rpc, and it's not worth a commissioners money to pay for my skills when people are well used to skins that don't rise to professional standards anyway. Since I've finished my skin I've started posting some of the scripts I whipped up on caution. You can scroll back in this blog and find some of them. I'll probably continue to do that with anything I think another skinner could use. I will probably also start posting tutorials for discrete components so people have some examples of what responsive coding looks like. It's a tough nut to crack if you've never seen it up close before! If I'm really going to be a good member of the community I should probably start posting those here too more regularly. I basically just really want to help people out with their coding and contribute to the overall health of jcink skinning without undervaluing myself or gatekeeping good code. I will probably post my thoughts on how I'll be structuring the pricing for upcoming work in the next week or so. Expect updates after the holidays on upcoming skin ideas. Most of them have to do with implementing fun design stuff I never get to do at work- parallax effects, color manipulations, funky shapes, abusing css filter rules. I'd love to hear what kinds of things people would be excited to see first!
