I am being so serious when I say Andrew Joseph White has violently and singlehandedly pulled me out of my no-reading habits. Read HFWU and then Immediately continued onto The Spirit Bares It's Teeth, which is my favorite thus far. I'm ECSTATIC for Compound Fracture coming out next month. In the meantime, I read My Best Friends Exorcism by Grady Hendrix, which was really good but didn't quite scratch the Itch. What is your favourite type of DN fanfiction?

to be honest i am wretchedly bad at reading fic while i'm writing, and i have been writing, um. a considerable amount. so i have not been reading much at all. when i DO read things, it tends to be something written by one of my beautiful brilliant mutuals. typically i especially stay away from reading ships that i write for (with some exceptions for, again, beloved mutuals). so, while i actually check the mello/near tag on AO3 fairly frequently, i rarely click through and read through something posted unless i know the author, or. unless it sounds suspiciously familiar to something i have written... [screams for three minutes straight]

i am not super picky on genre or ship (except for ships involving mello or near, who i am tragically extremely incapable of multishipping because i'm insane) but i gravitate towards oneshots under 10k (even more often under 5k). i am also highly partial to genderswaps (<- to no one's surprise)!! when i am selecting something to read, if i DON'T know the author, summary and warnings are the top things i consider. even if i don't care about the ship or character in question, the right summary can pull me in anyway <3

i almost exclusively read canon-character-centered fics; i am actually not in any way opposed to OCs or OC x canon character setups, it just feels like more legwork to get myself invested. my singular exception so far has been @nateriverswife 's fic "Mazzaroth," which i am wildly behind on but which is very, very good.

Catholic Astrology

Catholics practice astrology, and we’re tired of not talking about it. Easter is always on the Sunday after the first full moon (also known as the Paschal Full Moon) that occurs after the spring equinox. Yet, if you look at the catechism or Catholic subreddits, astrology is arrogantly and ignorantly denounced as a sin. It feels extra fitting on today of all days to talk about catholics’ relationship with the sky and the “wonders in the heavens above,” and to recognize the power and meaning that exists when we look to the stars.

The catholic church is endlessly coded with astrology. Here are just a few brief examples:

An Obelisk that functions as a sundial in St. Peter's Square at the vatican. Christmas is just after the winter solstice, though Jesus wasn’t born in December.. John the baptist “prepares the way” 6 months before Jesus, putting his memorial birth just after the summer solstice. God asks Job if he knows what the mazzaroth (zodiac) is. The Magi followed a star to find Jesus. The 12 disciples are in line with the 12 constellations. There are Zodiac signs in traditional artwork in cathedrals and churches around the world. Jesus is the Sun of God - sorry, typo - Son of God.

The western church often neglects to recognize the mystical origins of organized religion. The church prioritizes modern reason and logic above ancient knowledge and belief. Looking to the stars was a large part of how our ancestors made meaning for thousands of years. It seems silly to ignore the meaning that generations before us relied on. So as we look to the sky today, we hope that you are able to enjoy making meaning from the “signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars.”

hello! i don't have anyone to talk about profundis (sad) and i wanna ask some questions to the tl-er. why do you think yugeon decided to stay with shinje in the end? is this stockholm syndrome? but i don't think so.... i just feel like thehy both are ppl who need each other's existence to continue living.... how about you?

i think.... if shinje found yugeon a little later, maybe with a 2/3 years gap, i don't think yugeon would've easily decided to stay with shinje. (in the novel, it was only a few months?) and that is, if yugeon was still alive.........

yugeon, after the mazzaroth raid, was very fragile, both emotionally and physically. and the most important thing was, he had never been alone.

yugeon was always with his brother ever since they lost their parents, and after his brother became hospitalized, he was in erewhon, always surrounded by people. yugeon hates, more like afraid of, being alone. yugeon basically went for a suicide attack with the mantis mutant when he thought his brother was dying. i think it's also shown in extra 1.

yugeon's relationship with his brother was, well, to quote, 'a deformed' one. while living with his brother, yugeon became extremely 'dull', especially with his emotions. most of the time he was the receiver of the negative outbursts from his brother, but he never really learned how to do it himself. he knew his brother would be sad if he complained of this and that, and the only one time he did, almuten appeared, and he lost his brother.....

later, he arrived at erewhon. for the first few days, i think, he tried to act the same, as in, trying to act like nothing faze him, swallowing all the complaints, and pain, and such. until he can't. what he went through was horrible. and he finally, what's the word, explode. ch6, 'saying i won to shinje', ch7 'his outburst to shinje', ch8, 'also to shinje', ch9 'to shinje'.....

i feel like, with shinje, he can process his emotions well, he can throw basically anything, happiness, sadness, anger, hatred, whatever, that guy will actually accept everything. and he knows he won't ever leave him. and that guy won't.

so was it his desperation not wanting to be alone made yugeon stay with shinje in the end? perhaps? like i said before, if shinje found yugeon years later, maybe yugeon will have already healed from his past. maybe he will have already settled down in his new life. will he be happy? maybe? at the very least, he won't be in pain anymore. but that would be a whole new story wouldn't be?

but that is only if yugeon was able to survive past his healing years. first, he was alone (which he is deadly terrified of). second, he was physically and emotionally devastated at that time. to be frank, i don't think yugeon would have survived for long.

and i believe shinje and yugeon's relationship is bound to evolve into a healthy one. in extras both are shown adapting to each other's quirks. plus, shinje is one indulging mf and yugeon deserves all that cuddling and babying.
