British golfer Justin Rose won the gold medal in the men's individual tournament at the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro. He was followed by Swedish golfer Henrik Stenson with silver and Matt Kuchar of the United States with bronze. The tournament took place at the Olympic Golf Course between 11th and 14th August 2016. It was the first Olympic golf tournament played in 112 years.
Thirty-four countries competed in the men's individual golf tournament. Only four of these countries had competed before: the United States (1900, 1904), Great Britain (1900), France (1900), and Canada (1904).
The tournament consisted of four rounds with a total of 72 holes. The winner was the player with the lowest score. Rose finished the final round with a total of 268, while Stenson and Kuchar finished with 270 and 271. Rose was in fourth place during the first two rounds but reached first place during the third and fourth.
Justin Rose (born 1980) is an English professional golfer who won his first major championship at the 2013 U.S. Open. Following his win at the 2016 Olympics, he joined the Hall of Fame as one of only five golfers to win official tournaments on all six continents on which golf is played. As of 2022, Rose has had 24 professional wins and spent 13 weeks as the world's number-one golfer in 2018.
