I feel like I've complained about Tim's email situation in Gotham Knights before (edit: I have), but the truth of it is just so funny.

He's signed up for so many podcasts, video game streamers, and random news alerts; it's just a constant barrage of data going straight into his constantly whirring brain. Hell, he even floats the idea of the Batfamily having their own podcast as a way to correct misinformation about them (which Jason shoots down instantly), and it's made me realize something.

Timothy Drake would be a YouTuber.

In this universe specifically, Timothy Jackson Drake, the heir to Drake Industries and the foster son of the late Bruce Wayne would be a YouTuber.

Think about it. It'd be the perfect cover. Who would ever suspect that some 16-year-old nepo baby with a YouTube channel could ever be Red Robin? You'd have to be mad. I mean, look at him.

Red Robin just dropped out of literal thin air and garotted someone four times his size, and you expect anyone to believe that's the same kid who does 24-hour Minecraft charity streams and occasionally drops 6-hour video essays (his last one was on Lex Luthor's illegal bit mining operation on the moon)?

That kid?

You think that kid is Red Robin?

Hey just to ruin your day I want you guys to remember that before Drake in the second book Andrew had been making genuine steps towards recovery even if we didn’t get to see it very closely

Andrew being on his meds for the first and second book make it hard to see, especially since we didn’t meet him before he was on his meds but it can be inferred that he was making real progress on reclaiming his autonomy

He went to therapy regularly in which he actually talked to and got along with his therapist. He was able to have an ongoing relationship with Roland, and even though he insisted on using handcuffs that’s actually a healthy coping mechanism (he was able to recognise a problem which caused him distress aka people touching him without permission and applied a non-harmful solution which allowed him to continue without running away that’s the definition of learning to cope), he was not actively self-harming which we know by the fact that he has scars, not wounds, scratches or anything else, just healed scars. He was also able to accept and embrace his sexuality despite his history. He still has suicidal ideation but he is no longer practicing suicidal tendencies, which is genuinely huge progress

His biggest issues during the book are his meds (which seem to make it harder for him to regulate his emotions and his reactions and therefore causes him to the extreme measures which are familiar to him aka violence) and his relationship with Aaron/Kevin caused by an unhealthy desire to protect people. He was making an actual recovery, albeit a slow one, which just makes what happens to him all the more horrible

During the second book it had been seven years since he experienced that kind of abuse, seven years in which he clearly was slowly getting better only to be retraumatised again

Thinking about how if Kaitlyn, Laura, and Travis all die, The Quarry can just fucking end with Ryan and Dylan both separately sitting alone with their massive trauma, staring off into space at sunrise. Each of them not knowing if the other is alive, or if anyone else is alive at all. And the game just… ends.

just had a bizarre dipnpip dream where dan uploaded a video of him proposing to phil but dan filmed the entire thing himself (like, holding the camera) so the video was from his perspective and the camera was WAY too close to phil’s face the entire time?? the video was called “how to impress people with only 3 coins” and for some reason his big proposal speech involved him throwing 3 different american pennies off a dock? then the next day phil uploaded a scripted funny skit video where their characters were husbands so the phandom was having Major Discourse over if dans video was a skit too because it was Such A Bad Proposal and dipnpip had to be like “yall plz we were serious”

One thing I think is really well written about aftg is the way that Neil goes from merely playing a character to actually becoming a real person and discovering who he is and I don’t think it’s talked about enough

Like in the first book we meet Neil and he’s kind of…underwhelming. Like he’s fine but he never seems to have any super strong character moments and he seems so muted, and slowly you realise that Neil is not only playing a character, he’s FULLY embraced that character, he thinks of himself as Neil, he acts as Neil would act, and has the same interests as Neil would have and at the start you don’t even realise where the fake Neil starts and where his real personality ends

And then slowly we see him genuinely bonding with the team and genuinely acting on the impulses he WANTS to act on instead of the ones that his character would want and it’s so slow and subtle but also so clear when you look back

And I also love how this personality shift happens in time with him growing closer to the foxes, I think it really shows the importance of their relationship

Neil’s personality grows throughout the series because he literally did not have a real one before, he spent the last decade of his life playing various characters and this one just happened to become real

And then it all culminates in him getting taken by his dad, referring to himself as Nathaniel for the first and only time in the story, and once he’s survived he goes back to calling himself Neil and we realise that this name, this person who was originally made up to play a part, is now more real than Nathaniel ever was

He accidentally became his own person after almost ten years of being a character

Had a dream last night that I was at some sort of theme park or fair and the boys were a featured like … exhibit? You could drive down a street that was somehow themed after their story and buy merch and zines with them in it. I got some little machete and vasco pins that had magnetic noses so they’d smooch. Good time

just like in tokyo 2020, japan fails to win their quarterfinals match. oh my heart hurts so much but they gave us a world-class match deserving of their (once) world #2 title. and for yuki who showed up in this match despite his missing numbers in the prelims really shows he is the heart of his team.

forever hilarious to me that tennis is promoted as this prestigious highbrow big-brain sport when most tennis fans these days are like. yeah this is my favorite player. yeah i don't know why they're like that. yes they are stupid. no i will not choose somebody else.
