Daria Halprin in Zabriskie Point (Michelangelo Antonioni, 1970) Cast: Mark Frechette, Daria Halprin, Rod Taylor, Paul Fix, G.D. Spradlin, Bill Garaway, Kathleen Cleaver. Screenplay: Michelangelo Antonioni, Franco Rossetti, Sam Shepard, Tonino Guerra, Clare Peploe.Cinematography: Alfio Contini. Production design: Dean Tavoularis. Music: Jerry Garcia, Pink Floyd. It sometimes seems as if every bad movie eventually finds an audience, even if only as fodder for wisecracks on Mystery Science Theater 3000. Makers of bad movies even have movies made about them, like Tim Burton's Ed Wood (1994) or James Franco's The Disaster Artist, his film about Tommy Wiseau, the auteur of The Room (2003), a film whose badness turned it into a cult movie. Things get a little more complicated when the filmmaker is a director of the stature of Michelangelo Antonioni. Zabriskie Point is certainly a bad movie by any usual standards of plot or performance. Its endorsement of the revolutionary fervor of the young felt naive at the time and now seems at best simplistic. It was a critical and commercial flop: Roger Ebert called it "silly and stupid," and it banked only $900,000, against a cost of $7 million, on its initial theatrical run. But like another major flop, Heaven's Gate (Michael Cimino, 1980), it has been the subject of a continuing reassessment, attracting defenders and even a small coterie -- not to say cult -- of admirers, especially for its ending: a spectacular demolition of a desert house, with interpolated shots of the contents of a refrigerator and a closet being lofted in the air in slow motion. The fact remains, however, that Zabriskie Point really has nothing to say except that capitalist consumerism is bad and being young is good -- especially if you're hot. Neither point is made subtly and persuasively. The most glaring weakness is in the casting of its two young leads, Mark Frechette and Daria Halprin, who give almost hilariously inept performances as lovers drawn together in their rebellion. We never learn, for example, why Daria becomes so destructively disillusioned with her boss, real estate developer Lee Allen (Rod Taylor), that she imagines the cataclysm that ends the movie. It seems to have been inspired by her improbable encounter with Mark, who has stolen a small plane and, seeing her driving far below, decides to buzz her automobile. When he lands and they meet, they wander out into the desert, where they have sex. Their coupling is multiplied by a fantasy sequence of perhaps a score of couples rolling around in the dust. Incredible as the meeting of Mark and Daria is, it's perhaps more incredible that Antonioni, who had worked with actors of the caliber of Marcello Mastroianni, Jeanne Moreau, Alain Delon, and Monica Vitti, should have found anything to work with in Frechette and Halprin, whose lack of affect and stilted delivery verge on the ludicrous. Still, the film always gives us something to look at. Cinematographer Alfio Contini has an especially keen eye for the absurd and ugly jumble of billboards and signs that clutter Los Angeles, but he's equally skilled at capturing the beauty of Death Valley and the high desert in Arizona. Too bad that the visuals only serve to reinforce the banal contrast between civilization's corruption and nature's purity.

Meet Marcello Garcia!!!✨️
Marcello has been a work in progress oc of mine for awhile now who's been slowly wrapping me around his fiddly little finger. ALSO I GOTTA MENTION YESTERDAY WAS HIS BIRTHDAY (December 18th) 🥳🎊🎉 I was gonna wait to introduce him, but it would have been a sin for me to not introduce him around his birthday hrngsnsksk
I have no context for the last picture... happy birthday Mar😂🎉
☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆
ANYWAYS a smol blurb: Marcello is the second-born child of Theodore (aka Bruno's best friend) and his wife Sara. Being born just months after Bruno's triplets, Marcello was an unexpected but beloved arrival. He is a mini more hyper version of his papa and spends his days training to take over his business. Marcello is hyperactive, confident, charismatic and lucrative making him quite the character to be around. Although he has the slight reputation of being annoying, Marcello loves helping people and is always looking for ways to make his environment more lively (plus, he's one heck of a cook). He has ADHD and carries a pocket watch to keep track of the time. His ADHD also hurts his ability to pick up social cues as well as given him a fair amount of verbal and tactile stims such as humming, swaying, tapping and fiddling with objects such as his watch. Despite his differences, Marcello works hard to serve his family and community. He's full of laughter and contagious energy
More on Marcello soon! I'm gonna make an official, more detailed ref for him soon. His ADHD makes me love him so much, you have no idea. He's my little neurodivergent spicy boy😚✨️

top news upcoming events / concerts   /   dj sets   / jd zazie   /  wjm  /  mat pogo  / sistemi audiofobici burp / jealousy party   / muscolaria   /  burp publications
The horrendous autumn that cloaks us at least compels a push for renewed activity. Meanwhile, a first handful of info on the main ones. Below is a list of dates. JD Zazie, Roberta WJM, Mat Pogo are all mainly focused on solo material.
JD Zazie presents DISCO ROTTO, a new project in development that will manifest itself with two first Berlin dates, October 3 at Liebig12 and October 24 at Ausland. Developments soon. She will also musicalise a collection of Marie Menken's short films for the Sentimental Punk series on 11 October.
The series also hosted WJM on its last date in September. WJM has since been playing solo material that will be part of his pre-announced new album MY GARDEN. She is available for booking right now!
Mat Pogo will present MUMBLE RUMBLE, a new solo vocal project at the Eavesdrop Festival on November 7 in Berlin. A few preparatory concerts will be held to develop some solo parts, including a duo with WJM on October 17 for the Dissidents series.
Despite all this individualism, there is also news for the bands. We are still celebrating the release of Fuchsia Fever, the first album by HIC UP. The Tropicalist anarchist abstract glitch impro quartet consisting of JD Zazie, Marina Cyrino, Matthias Koole and Tony Elieh. The album was released by Al Maslakh. The band will be seen live in Spring 25. On the other hand, Temporal Relief Keeper, the first album by PEEPHOLES, who are Liz Albee, Mat Pogo, Antonio Borghini, Steve Heather, is about to be released by Trouble In The East Records. Mat Pogo's new trio with Marcello Busato and Mathias Koole, is also recording material and may be called MMM at the moment. No news instead from Jealousy Party, which was last seen in a trio line-up with WJM, Pogo and Jimmy G at PAS Berlin last August. Pogo and WJM will however play as a duo right there on 17 October, but it is not announced as JP.

SAMEDI 25 MAI 2024 (Billet 4 / 5)
« MARCELLO MOI » (2h01)

Elenco: Liliana García Sosa – directora y actriz Daniela Lillo Traverso – dramaturga Shlomit Baytelman – actriz Agustin Moya – actor Ingrid Isensee – actriz Mercedes Garcia Navas – diseña...

DJ VRYWVY on the Noche Buena Traditions She Holds Near and Dear
When Spotify released its end-of-year data for the most streamed artists, songs, and albums this year, one thing was very clear: Latin music held its place at the top of the charts. Bad Bunny, Peso Pluma, Feid, Karol G, Junior H, Shakira, Rosalía, Ana Castela, and Kali Uchis were among the most streamed artists in the world. While major stars dominated the charts, other Latine entertainers like DJ VRYWVY, whose real name is Val Garcia, were at work, uplifting Latin music in venues throughout the nation. For DJ VRYWVY the shift in mainstream attention to Latin music raises feelings of pride. "You know, seeing Karol G, she just did her "Mañana Será Bonito Tour" in Medellín, and everyone is just taking everything back home and it makes me so proud," she says. "They came from there, but they took it everywhere. What are the odds of that? I started thinking to myself, what are the odds of me doing this? I wasn't supposed to be here. I was born in Mexico City." It was in Mexico that her fondness for music came to be. DJ VRYWVY spent hours watching music videos of Britney Spears, Pharrell, and Nelly on MTV. When her family moved to Dallas when she was in second grade, her love of hip-hop grew as she began to listen to mixes on the city's hip-hop stations like 97.9 The Beat. Unbeknownst to her, her mind was already at work fusing the two worlds. Years later, when she began to teach herself how to DJ, her love of hip-hop and Latin music began to mold into one. "I call it VRYBILINGUAL," she says. "Mixing those two worlds together: reggaetón and hip-hop, cumbia and R&B. I take you to those two worlds and mesh them to create a one-of-a-kind experience." It's an experience that led Buchanan's Whisky to feature DJ VRYWVY in their "We Are The Spirit Of The 200%" holiday campaign. The campaign highlights Latine creators such as "Saturday Night Live" cast member Marcello Hernández, Debbie Gonzales, and Daniel Buezo of the clothing brand Kids of Immigrants. "It's celebrating people that are 100 percent American, 100 percent Hispanic. I feel like it's such a thing, especially people like myself who are immigrants that come to this country, and we have such a hard time kind of being like, we're not from here, but we left home, so we're not from there," she says. "I feel like the new term we are taking as 200 percenters is ni de aquí, ni de allá (not from here, nor there)." DJ VRYWVY spoke with POPSUGAR about the importance of celebrating Noche Buena and Christmas, her favorite Mexican Christmas dishes, and setting boundaries with family around the holidays. --- POPSUGAR : We are a few days away from Noche Buena, or Christmas Eve. What are you looking forward to doing with your family to celebrate? DJ VRYWVY: Christmas, like Noche Buena, is my favorite holiday because I feel it's such a big part of our culture. I love how we're able to blend both of the worlds together. We get the food, the tamales, we get our Buchanan's to celebrate. I'm excited about this year because the [Dallas] Cowboys are playing on Dec. 24. You already know we're going to be watching that, so that's the perfect day to show how those two worlds collide. It's like, we're so Mexican, but we're going to be watching the Cowboys game because we love the Cowboys. PS: Around the holidays, especially for us in creative arts professions, family members often ask, "What do you do? Is this a real career?" How do you personally balance your mental health while also having to have conversations? DJ: Over the past few years, it's gotten a lot better. At first, trying to explain to my immigrant parents what I was doing, they didn't get it. I'm like, "Mom, look at this Instagram post that I put out!," and they're like, "Okay, like, I don't get it." This campaign with Buchanan - because Mexicans know Buchanan, that's our drink. When I told my parents, "I'm working with Buchanan," they're like, "What? Like, Buchanan?" They were… https://www.popsugar.com/family/dj-vrywvy-talks-noche-buena-traditions-49323442?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

He sang Marcello in a new production of La Bohème at Teatro Comunale di Sassari, portrayed the role of Dulcamara in a new production of L’Elisir d’Amore at the Romanian National Opera, and was invited to give masterclasses at the Xi’an University of Music in China. Count Tomski was a role debut in a new production of Tchaikovsy’s Pique Dame at the Opera Festival Heidenheim accompanied by the Stuttgarter Philharmoniker. Zoltán returned to Oviedo for a new production of Götterdämmerung where he performed the role of Alberich. He has won prizes at various singing competitions including the Romanian National Song Competition, the Hariclea Darclee International Voice Competition, and “Debut”, the European Opera Singing Competition in Germany. In 2012 Zoltan participated in the Salzburg Festival’s Young Singers Project, and was then selected to sing in the Festival’s production of Das Labyrinth. Recent engagements included two new production of La Wally and Jenufa at Theater an der Wien, a new production of The Raise and Fall of the city of Mahagonny in Parma. Future higlights of his saison include a debut at Regio Torino as Escamillo, a ROH debut in La Bohème as Schaunard and a debut at Komische Oper Berlin in the Love of the three oranges as Leander.
Dear Zoltan, I’m so glad to meet you, this time in Italy! And I am very much looking for- ward to your house debut at Teatro Regio di Parma! What has been your relationship with the Italian theatres throughout your career and what does this event mean to you? In my nearly 15 years of international career I have been lucky enough to be part of some wonder- ful productions all over the world starting with Vienna until Singapore, but singing ocasionally in Italy, becomes each time on of the highlights of my season. My first ever concert accompanied by an orchestra abroad was actually in Palermo when I was 22. Since then I was dreaming about singing one day at Teatro Massimo which was closed for renovation those years. Several years later my dream came true and I was indeed portraying the role of Escamillo in that amazing opera house… I always used to say, that a part of my heart is in Italy. I’ve also worked on several occa- sions at Teatro Verdi in Trieste, one of them was a very funny production of Die Fledermaus (Dr. Falke) with the late Gianluigi Gelmetti conducting who I was very fond of. I have beautiful memo- ries of Sardegna where I’ve done a new production of La Bohème as Marcello, and later a Pagliacci as Silvio. Singing at Teatro Regio in Parma is an absolut honor for me not only because of the enormous tradition that surrounds this opera house but also because of the fact that I am a guest artist in a very unusual production that should make history in Parma. Tell us more about this opera, about the role that you’re about to perform and the produc- tion that will be on stage at Regio di Parma this month (April)? Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny is an opera, although I like to call it rather music theater/ music play… composed between 1927-1929 by Kurt Weill on Bertold Brecht’s libretto, where I will interpret the role of Trinity Moses. When I first saw the score, I said to myself… “oh, I’ll deifinitely need some time to learn this music and get used to certain rhytms“. I’ve seen it challenging but I ended up having great fun singing this part and enjoying Weill’s geniality. The opera was a scandal on its premierere in Leipzig in 1930, presenting the decandece of the society which is more then actual nowadays where money is everything. I hope the audience will be receptive, of course, one should not expect a coservative staging for this type of music. I’m sure everyone will leave the the- ater whistling the Alabama song at the end of the performance… and realizing hopefully how en- joyable this music is. reposted from https://opera-charm.com/
