Poor Koira, Being a kind girl she is by giving Mao a Valentine chocolate so he doesn't feel left out but only for her kindness to backfire. Should've thought things through for being nice is a mad scientist who is also a literal demon that doesn't understand love and the concept of Valentine.

But hey he accepted, So that's a positive.👍

this may be a hot take but disgaea 3 is truly the perfect disgaea story to me. it is, for both better and worse, the most patently disgaea disgaea game and while there's a lot of criticisms worth making, god it's just so brilliant and so fun. 4 just barely edges it out as my favorite for different reasons but it also has its own issues.

but 3 was so funny out the gate for making the basis of mao's character "im gonna become a Hero so i can beat up my overlord dad for breaking my fucking psp" because mao and everyone else in the game are casually, entirely aware that they literally live in a video game and as a rule the hero MUST always defeat the overlord. it's a wacky premise that ends up twisting itself around HARD by the end into something incredibly interesting and challenging.

and that's kind of what disgaea was always about, for the first four or so games. it loved poking fun at video game tropes and mechanics and went anywhere from violently beating at the fourth wall to just completely ignoring its existence. and it built stories around the expectations that come from those sorts of tropes.

from 5 onwards i feel like that was sort of lost. everything feels very self contained within the confines of its own fictional universe now. which isn't necessarily a bad thing but in practice, having that meta humor taken away it really just feels like a shonen action series with wacky quirky humor and there's just so many other things that do that better.
