yes, yes, boba fett finds it strange and uncomfortable when people can see his face and this is one of the major reasons he almost never removes his helmet (in the expanded universe anyway), but another factor that i think isn't explored nearly enough is just how much his helmet shapes how he sees the world. it grants him 360° vision, lets him interface with his weapon systems and slave I, and automatically dampens loud noises and dims bright lights. imagine going through the vast majority of your life seeing the world through that lens and then suddenly taking it away. removing his helmet for any significant length of time likely isn't just uncomfortable for him but downright disorienting.
#boba fett#boba fett meta#so much is made of how mandalorian helmets have all these powerful‚ often perception-altering features#and how many mandalorians spend the majority of their lives wearing them#i'm surprised there aren't more references to the difficulties such mandos might have adjusting to NOT wearing them#not just socially but like on a sensory level#there's one description in the boba fett junior novels that i really love#where bitty!boba gets his helmet knocked off his head by another bounty hunter#and the barrage of light and sound is compared to water being poured over his face#like it's that jarring to him#and that's when he was still a kid and hadn't yet experienced literal years of wearing his helmet every day!#so imagine what it's like for him when he's an adult making that transition#star wars#mandalorians

the way mandos are depicted in the clone wars s2 (at least in their first few appearances) is supremely Unnatural. like if americans suddenly renounced beer, guns, and christianity and pretended that those things were not Very Important to american culture
#(for reference: mandos are the part of star wars i know / care the most about)#the kept the kar'ta beskar (that funny hexagon thing) as an architectural motif & otherwise abandoned armor#their language is spoken only by terrorists in exile on the moon#shouldn't have to rely on terrorists to keep the most distinctive parts of your culture alive#but idk#the clone wars#star wars the clone wars#star wars clone wars#clone wars#star wars#mandalorians#mandalorian culture

Went into this planning a quick doodle and well… that’s not what happened here lol Anyways enjoy!
It was fun paring Mythos up against something a fair bit bigger than her. Most things she gets to play with are so small

Fic idea (to write maybe sometime idk):
An increasingly intense verbal argument between Fëanor, Námo and Manwë, with Melkor being unhelpful (and having an absolute blast) in the background, written to be read while listening to/to match the structure of Edvard Grieg's In the Hall of the Mountain King.
(For those unfamiliar with the piece: The tldr is that it has a nice "escalation" if you will; here's a nice symphonic metal cover to listen to for this)
It starts out with Fëanor calling out everyone for their mistakes and wrongdoings (in his opinion) and while Melkor is laughing and not sorry and Námo is just generally like "meh" and telling him the consequences of his actions are what comes with free will, Manwë is like "hey, things really escalated and turned out awfully, I'm sorry, maybe we can talk this out?".
In order to make sure that nobody has a productive discussion about things Melkor then kindly reminds Fëanor of how his "Fingolfin wants your crown and your daddy" conspiracy theory totally came true and uses the opportunity to fire some shots at Manwë too (for also taking his crown and his daddy).
Fëanor gets increasingly heated while discussing various family members and the topic shifts to Finwë and Indis. Námo is of the opinion that "I'm not going to legislate Elven reproductive rights and that's all I'll say about your father's dick, leave me alone", which is not accepted as an apology (which it also wasn't) or a valid statement by Fëanor.
Manwë spends some time defending himself against the crown-related accusations, but soon realizes he's talking mostly to himself - because Melkor is not listening and Námo and Fëanor are busy - and resumes trying to get Fëanor to admit that he loves his step-mother and half-siblings with increasing despair.
Just in case there's still a slim chance of a civil conversation happening Melkor once again randomly swoops in, this time mocking Fëanor with "maybe your mom died because she didn't love you enough ahahaha", which understandably leads to Fëanor getting... very angry for lack of a better term. Námo, now slightly miffed, attempts to correct this lie, but he can hardly get a word in because Manwë is screeching at his brother, demanding that he take that back and apologize, which is definitely not happening due to Melkor's belief that he is the Elder King and above taking orders from anyone.
Fëanor declares that, in addition to reclaiming the Silmarils, he will hunt Melkor down specifically. Manwë believes to perceive "oath-like wording" and panics, frantically refusing to be witness to another one. Námo sternly advises against another oath and threatens to curse everyone present.
Melkor is laughing.

Fëanor and succession
"High princes were Fëanor and Fingolfin, the elder sons of Finwë, honoured by all in Aman; but now they grew proud and jealous each of his rights and his possessions. Then Melkor set new lies abroad in Eldamar, and whispers came to Fëanor that Fingolfin and his sons were plotting to usurp the leadership of Finwë and of the elder line of Fëanor, and to supplant them by the leave of the Valar; for the Valar were ill-pleased that the Silmarils lay in Tirion and were not committed to their keeping." - The Silmarillion, Chapter 07: Of the Silmarils and the Unrest of the Noldor
„Though after the rule of the Noldor was committed to him [Fingolfin] by Manwë (in place of his elder brother and father) he took the name of Finwë.“ -Morgoth’s Ring, The Later Quenta Silmarillion (II)
"He [Fëanor] claimed now the kingship of all the Noldor, since Finwë was dead, and he scorned the decrees of the Valar." -The Silmarillion, Chapter 09: Of the Flight of the Noldor
"As he [Fëanor] said with some justice: ‘My brother’s claim rests only upon a decree of the Valar; but of what force is that for those who have rejected them and seek to escape from their prison-land?’" -The Peoples of Middle - Earth, Chapter 11: The Shibboleth of Fëanor
"Therefore even as Mandos foretold the House of Fëanor were called the Dispossessed, because the overlordship passed from it, the elder, to the house of Fingolfin, both in Elendë and in Beleriand, and because also of the loss of the Silmarils." -The Silmarillion, Chapter 13: Of the Return of the Noldor
"With him into banishment went his seven sons, and northward in Valinor they made a strong place and treasury in the hills; and there at Formenos a multitude of gems were laid in hoard, and weapons also, and the Silmarils were shut in a chamber of iron. Thither also came Finwë the King, because of the love that he bore to Fëanor; and Fingolfin ruled the Noldor in Tirion. Thus the lies of Melkor were made true in seeming, though Fëanor by his own deeds had brought this thing to pass; and the bitterness that Melkor had sown endured, and lived still long afterwards between the sons of Fingolfin and Fëanor." -The Silmarillion, Chapter 07: Of the Silmarils and the Unrest of the Noldor
"One thing only marred the design of Manwë. Fëanor came indeed, for him alone Manwë had commanded to come; but Finwë came not, nor any others of the Noldor of Formenos. For said Finwë: ‘While the ban lasts upon Fëanor my son, that he may not go to Tirion, I hold myself unkinged, and I will not meet my people.’" -The Silmarillion, Chapter 08: Of the Darkening of Valinor
"Fingolfin had prefixed the name Finwë to Ñolofinwë before the Exiles reached Middle-earth. This was in pursuance of his claim to be the chieftain of all the Ñoldor after the death of Finwë, and so enraged Fëanor that it was no doubt one of the reasons for his treachery in abandoning Fingolfin and stealing away with all the ships." -The Peoples of Middle - Earth, Chapter 11: The Shibboleth of Fëanor
"So it came about that to Fëanor the rejection of þ became a symbol of the rejection of Míriel, and of himself, as her son, as the chief of the Noldor next to Finwë: […] So Fëanor would call himself 'Son of the þerindë', and when his sons in their chilhood asked why their kin in the house of Finwë used s for þ he answered: 'Take no heed! We speak as is right, and as King Finwë himself did before he was led astray. We are his heirs by right and the elder house. Let them sá – sí, if they can speak no better.'" -The Peoples of Middle – Earth, Chapter 11: The Shibboleth of Fëanor
"To his sons Finwë gave his own name as he had done to Fëanor. This maybe was done to assert their claim to be his legitimate sons, equal in that respect to his eldest child Kurufinwë Fayanáro, but there was no intention of arousing discord among the brothers, since nothing in the judgement of the Valar in any way impaired Fëanor’s position and rights as his eldest son. Nothing indeed was ever done to impair them, except by Fëanor himself; and in spite of all that later happened his eldest son remained nearest to Finwë’s heart." -The Peoples of Middle- Earth, Chapter 11: The Shibboleth of Fëanor
#silm#fëanor#if i have to read one more take about how “paranoid” Fëanor was#about something that actually occured as an important canonical plot point...#plus it's genuinely such an injustice to Fingolfins character to airbrush one of his most consistent traits just out of canon#if you can't admit that Fingolfin was a litttle bit of an opportunistic usurper do you even really like his character?#you'll also note that his “I will release my brother” refers to after Fëanors period of exile is served#(note the future tense in accordance with Mandos 'But after that time (exile) this matter shall be set in peace and held redressed#if others will release thee.’#he's not saying “I forgive my brother rn don't send him into exile”#but “I'll forgive him once his exile is served”)#plus Finwë explicitly not endorsing him as regent or whatever no Finwë gets straight up usurped as well#as Melkor's “lies” said#(since I've often seen the hc that Finwë gave Fingolfin his blessings to rule in Tirion#as if that wouldn't completely invalidate his leverage on the Valar to rescind Fëanor's exile#and any credibility in showing Fëanor his support by joining him at Formenos)#the succession was in no way shape or form in question or open to debate until the Valar got involved#and even then Finwë made his position - Fëanor as his rightful heir - very clear

okay no, I got bored halfway through lining and just slapped some color on these bitches
Je'Chessa is a Temple Guard, but not from Feemor's squad (and coincidentally the owner of the foulest mouth in all of Coruscant)
Uzemgo is one of the most accomplished Mandalorian poets of his time. He is the one that coins 'Mesh'lanovaar' as the mando'a word for the Temple Guard
and the little blue blob on his shoulder is his child, Toya.
#je'chessa stems from the idea of a jedi that is an absolute barbie until she opens her mouth#you would not believe how viciously this woman can swear#she's won contests#also did i spend entirely too much time writing 'sa sarad' in cursive mando'a for uzemgo's armor? maybe#he might as well be my self insert in this with the amount of fucking thoughts i have on mando poetry#random boli thoughts#my art#art for my fic#mando oc#jedi oc#jedi temple guard#once again i was too lazy to look up guard uniform references#sue me

A new headcanons landed on me: sure, Námo keeps the halls and the spirits, but when they leave, it's Irmo (for the important ones; for the others it's probably a Maia, but still, one of Irmo's court) who accompanies the elves who get reembodied.
And Nienna, of course, well you know how she lives at the western edge of the West? Guess where from the Men sailed in their journey out. And I know technically they do not sail, but still. She surely had something to do with that. And her Maiar.
#silm#silmarillion#tolkien legendarium#the silm#the silmarillion#silm headcanons#silm hc#feanturi#namo#irmo#nienna#namo mandos#irmo lorien#btw the term “feanturi” per the book only refers to the brothers which is a bit infuriating#so I'm persistently using it to refer to all 3#because of course#oh and whatever is done with the dwarves aulë had a part in that#so that námo generally isn't some with the psychopomping#i mean pomping the spirits out of his halls#i guess#or maybe the dwarves just stay there?#idk why this hc i was just thinking about Nienna and how weird she is and thought “hey this would be cool”

I have a question. Today's was the second episode we got that was named after one of the lines referencing the rings - the ones specifically important for that episode, of course.
Does this mean in this season we are going to get something like Doomed to Die? Or To Rule them All? In the Darkness?
Because if Doomed to Die, or any title with the word Doom, is the title of the episode of the Fall of Eregion and Celebrimbor's death, I'm going to unironically lose my mind, and not in the fun way. In the Eternal Despair way.
In case you are confused: the Doom (of Mandos) was a huge thing back before the Sun and Moon were created, post-Darkening and, among other things, said a bunch of elves would end up dying in terrible ways - Yet slain ye may be, and slain ye shall be: by weapon and by torment and by grief.
Additionally, in case someone needed to review it, I'm putting the Rings' poem under the cut.
Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men, doomed to die, One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie. One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them, One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them. In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
#silm references in lord of the rings#no way that line of the poem wasn't intentional#considering elven history#doom of mandos#the rings poem#celebrimbor#2x01 elven kings under the sky#2x05 halls of stone#rings sof power#theory? is this a theory? maybe?#fall of eregion#creation requires sacrifice#tolkien gave me life#silmarillion references in the lord of the rings#jjr tolkien

This is Vakhmir, he's an old guy Devaronian Mandalorian who's a member of Cedee's clan.
He was there back in the good old days when they were hundreds strong. He fought in the Mandalorian civil war against deathwatch, lost one of his horns to a lightsaber during the battle of Galidraan.
He's grown into a quiet and contemplative man. The others in his much diminished clan consider him wise. When he speaks people tend to listen. Even on seemingly trivial things.
Also he has a little Tooka cat :3
I'm hoping Paz Viszla wasn't a one off and "Heavy infantry" Mandalorians were a thing. Because they are very cool looking and I plan on making another one or two heavy infantry mando OCs.
Seems there are no tags for Devaronian :(
