What Lies Between: Prologue

Context? What context?

This is a snippet, technically the prologue, of a book hanging out in google docs doomed to be unfinished because I couldn't figure out how to give a straight couple chemistry.

On a cool spring breeze a wisp traveled. Its fluffy body swooped through newly sprouted trees pulsing with the magic of growth and creation.  Trees that were far too large and overgrown for how young they were.

The wisp was brand new, as all wisps were, because they never lasted long in this form. Soon it would find a place to cocoon itself and join the forest in spirit like all its brethren.  Yet, even though it had nothing to compare its surroundings to, the wisp knew that this hot wet forest was not the one it had originated from. 

Even so, something about the smell of wet soil and the glittering of plants that were just awakening for spring made the wisp’s very soul quiver.  The air was thick with humidity making the wisps journey syrupy slow.  The trees sighed, their boughs heavy with growing pains and thick damp moss, as the wisp floated through their whispering branches.  The forest inhaled, around the wisp, as new life was being deposited in fertile soil.

Soon the wisp broke through the tree line, leaving behind the tangled heaving woods. It hesitated as it neared a garden that was just beginning to germinate. The wind carried the smell of crackling lightning, lilac, and loss. A storm was brewing in more ways than one.

Curiosity, an unfamiliar feeling, rippled through the wisp. The metallic tang of loss stung the wisps' delicate senses as it drifted closer to the source. Through the cracked window of a beautiful cobbled house it peered. What did it see but two beings who smelled of seawater and copper, twined together in a tableau of sorrow. 

As it drew closer it didn’t so much as hear, but felt their wish. To find something lost. Something precious and irreplaceable. 

The wisp had never seen mortal creatures feel such deep painful emotions. So it did something not in its nature. 

Maybe this was because it was not in its normal habitat and by the very principle of creation it had to adapt. Or maybe this wisp had always been different from its kind. No matter, it did not need a reason for actions that felt so right.

It floated to the being who smelled of summer storms and nestled itself into a place where it knew it could grow. This was much better than a simple dirt patch it had been destined for. Pleased with itself that it had completed its journey and, more importantly its purpose, it slept. And waited. It was not sure what it would sprout into.  Even so, the wisp sensed that perhaps this was not the forest it had come from, but maybe it was the one it was destined for.

here's those two soarindash kiddos I was talking about!! i don't like soarindash anymore and haven't for like the past 7 years but mann these two were my first next gen ocs, they are my babies!! idk if I'm gonna squeeze them into my verse or not but I still love them and I updated their designs for funsies!!

here we got thunder skies (named after his daddy soarin' skies ofc) he's aggressive and bold, and is fighting to uphold his parent's legacies by being a wonderbolt himself. but his true talent lies in manipulating the weather and making flashy patterns in the sky, so he isn't very happy about his cutie mark which he deems girly/kiddish. but really he IS passionate about his artistic talents and with a little encouragement, he learns to tone down his competitive nature and instead uses his skills to create eye-catching visuals at wonderbolt shows!

and his younger sister, sunny side up! she's very bubbly and optimistic, and tries to make friends with everyone! she's big on teamwork and is very passionate about her role as a cheerleader, where her talent of being uplifting and inspirational really shines through! despite their personalities being polar opposites, her and thunder are very close and she's the one who really encouraged him to follow his artistic passions.

so yeahh I love these guys sm, i would lovee to keep them around some way or another despite the soarindash aspect 😅💗💗

Ooohh! Late night (maybe secret) milk and cookies fresh from the oven! 🍪🥛🍼

ooooh i love the idea of this.... and not just because i made milk & cookies tonight!!

maybe its past your bedtime but daddy hasn't turned off the tv yet, he can sense that you're just not tired yet, and not in a good way either. most nights when you stay up late its because you're far too energized to sleep, running and skipping and dancing around the house insisting you don't need to rest, until next thing you know you're half asleep being carried into daddy's bed... but tonight you're just angsty. you already had your nighttime bottle, you've been cuddling with your stuffy while a calm cartoon plays, but your brain is elsewhere, half small and half spaced out.

then you hear the oven beep on.

"come here angel, i got a surprise"

daddy takes a packet of cookie dough from the back of the fridge, high up on the top shelf where you can't even reach. he puts two squares on a metal sheet, one for him and one for you.

"don't tell... but these are dada's magic cookies. sometimes when you're already asleep, daddy makes a special cookie before bed as a little treat... maybe they'll work for you too!"

cookies are one thing, but a magic cookie? and right before bed?? you couldn't believe how quickly your night was turning around. your sour mood dissipates as the kitchen fills with the smell of sugar. daddy pours another bottle for you to wash down your cookie, and your tummy feels just as warm as your heart as daddy rocks you to sleep.

ive been sitting on this concept for Lil Cheese for a few months now trying to chew out how i wanted to approach it; im really happy with how she turned out. :)

The idea being that back when Pinkie absorbed all of the chaos magic at the end of the series, it had some lingering effects despite her being drained of it. Also in the MLP game for Lil Cheese it says "this future filly will have inherited twice the chaotic party energy of any average pony" which like,,, YES Cheese and Pinkie lmao,,,, BUT WHAT IF...... 😳 went with the name Mascarpone Pie, she goes by Marcy for short. :^) COUGH Marcy Pie. I don't think she'd ever get a cutie mark, which they think is weird at first but it makes sense later when she kinda ages into a draconequus. she doesn't reach her full draconequus form until after adulthood, but as a kid she'd have these weird inexplicable bursts of chaos magic that for a while, ponies would assume was natural given the filly's parents. shed be an awkward lanky teen who starts growing horns, thats kinda when everyone's like oooooooh............. i think shed actually be a pretty goofy and happy kid but uh.... in tf fashion i wanted to draw expressions of distress at her gradually changing appearance. i dont think she'd be immortal either, but her lifespan is very long. eventually she'd figure out how to disguise herself as a normal-looking pony but by that point everyone's pretty aware and normal about how she looks. minor detail, but i bet she'd snort when she laughs lol.  if it matters her draconequus bits are: reindeer, rabbit, bee, giraffe, and dolphin.

Danny is not the ghost king. In fact, he’s never going to be the ghost king. 

However, that doesn’t stop him from getting summoned, which is stressful. First of all, he has school to deal with, second of all, he’s just a lil baby ghost so shouldn’t even be able to be summoned, and three, his new ghost-dad gets a… tiny bit upset. Not at him, but he can only talk him out of destroying a world thanks to some idiot-cults so many times before there’s the temptation to let him do so.
