Guess what just came in the mail! Hello ftakb book two! The cover's gorgeous and it's so much thicker then I was expecting. I'm super excited to put it up on my shelf next to the first book! Thank you @muffinlance for the awesome story!!

And for anyone who hasn't read it, I highly recommend giving it a shot! It's got everything anyone could ever ask for, death playing with humans as their chess pieces, the politics of humans and mythical creatures clashing against each other, the slow extinction of humanity, and, of course, my most beloved protagonist Aaron who's only a little in over his head.

Can't wait for another reread :)

Something like Forever by someryn ✿ Post-Movie ✿ COMPLETE ✿ Two-part series that has Justin's POV Leave The Ashes, it's a look at how Justin and Alex cope, well fail to cope with the traumatic events of the movie. Alex struggles to communicate her emotions in Alex fashion, Justin is her steadfast brother who looks at her for just a bit too long, and there is sweetness and the perfect amount of spice added in (just a pinch). Delicious Jalex awaits with this fic <3

Truth Spell by saveyou ✿ Post-Movie ✿ IN PROGRESS ✿ This is an AU where Justin runs away from home post-movie--and only Alex knows why. It's an interesting set up, but last update was in 2010 and it ends off sorely unfinished. But it is a nice read and I enjoy how Alex and Justin are written.

The conversations in this fic are so so cute, tender and emotional. This is the hot-chocolate-your-grandma-gives-you of a Jalex fic. Lemme re-read this fic now <3

Reading the first parts of CDTH, I really thought it was gonna be some big Lynch Brothers' road trip and they'll be looking for answers together for Ronan and Matthew, deal with the leftover effects of Niall's death similar to the Greenmantle issue, and in the process also hear more about Seondeok (because EXCUSE ME, I KNOW DECLAN WAS KISSING ASS WHEN HE CALLED HER SEONSAENGNIM BUT SIGN ME TF UP FOR THAT RELATIONSHIP.) And I mean, we did get a road trip, it just wasn't with the people I thought. And yes, I am actually still aching about that.

I actually wished we got more interactions between the Lynch brothers.

And yeah, I get that it makes the divide more obvious, that the structure of the narrative amplifies how separate Ronan feels from his brothers. Or how Matthew feels unheard and treated like an accessory to his brothers' life by not giving him much focus until the last book and still only getting crumbs of his own story. Or how Declan and Matthew together reveals more about his complicated relationship with responsibility and love, of reconciling parts of himself.

I do love the books, but maaaaan did I wish we got more Lynch Brothers' roadtrip.

I LOVE the Red Rising series. It's my favorite book series of all time. Many others in this fandom have read and recommended The Will of the Many and maaaaan it's just not doing it for me. I'm listening to the audiobook, I'm well over halfway done, and it's just not grabbing me. I don't care about the main characters, I'm not into the mystery, the world building isn't sucking me in. I bought it so I'll make myself finish it but boy, it's a slog.

Fav Jeff Combs character and movie/series, and why?

Okay well in all seriousness, I don’t have a number one favorite, so I guess I’ll do top 5 (in no particular order)

1. Weyoun. I just love how he’s the perfect blend of a silly goofy character, but also how much of a sly and devious little shit he can be. But at the same time, I can’t help but sympathize with him and what the Founders turned him and the other Vorta into

2. Milton Dammers from The Frighteners. Personally I think this is Jeff’s best performance. Better than Herbert West. Primarily because I think about what if they cast a different character actor from the 90’s for it, and tbh I don’t see anybody other than him pulling it off. I feel like if you got someone like Jim Carrey or Peter MacNicol, they’d probably play Milton as too eccentric and silly. Jeffrey gives the perfect blend of peculiar, threatening, pathetic, and funny to the role and I adore it

3. Doctor Mordrid. Maybe I’m just biased because I’ve fallen out of love with the MCU over the years and didn’t care all that much for the Doctor Strange movies and comics (especially if you take into account how racist some of the comics were), but I love campy fantasy films and Doctor Mordrid is no exception. Anton is very warm, sweet, brave and intelligent and I would feel very safe with him. Not even in a romantic sense, I would just love to be in a book club with him

4. Dr East from The Guyver. Ok ok so this movie isn’t very good and doesn’t do the manga it’s based off of any justice, but I can’t help enjoying it. It’s worth it for the kickass creature effects (Screamin’ Mad George is always a win) and David Gale is fun as always as the villain, and of course, Jeffrey as Dr East. He’s only in the movie for 5 minutes around the 3rd act, but he shines in those 5 minutes. He plays him as [in his own words] Herbert’s ditzy younger brother and it’s so much fun and cute. Plus he turns into a goat monster (before sadly getting killed off 😞)

5. Shran from Enterprise. Despite its many flaws, mediocre representation of diversity in the main crew, post 9/11 Americana vibes and getting canceled just before the series was getting really good, I like Enterprise a lot. Shran is one of the biggest reasons why. He’s a gruff, short tempered, cranky Andorian but underneath that blue exterior, he’s a noble man who cares about the people he loves. Jeff’s chemistry with Scott Bakula is great too and it makes me wish we could’ve gotten them in other projects together (maaaaan why didn’t they put Jeff in an episode of Quantum Leap????)

i'm so spoiled by full-cast audio dramas that have a lot of financial support that getting into the more indie/DIY side is hard. because i want to support smaller shows, but if the recording and mixing are dogshit, then they are dogshit. it's really hard to stick it out through wet mouth sounds and tinny, echoing voices just because the story is good.

which is why i almost turned off The Silt Verses. they aren't even committing that many audio sins - it just comes off as more "high end audio book" than an actual radio play. but maaaaan. i'm going pretty feral over the lore, not gonna lie. it has lit a fire under me creatively. gonna be hard to convince my 3 friends who also love audio fiction to give it a shot

This anime shits all over JKR in the best way possible. Highly Recommended if you can make it through the 2nd half of Season 1.

Overall Rating So Far: 8/10 with hopes it will stay there.

For comparison, season 1 ended up 6/10. TToTT as to why...

I'm writing this while re-watching season one, and maaaaan what a strong start Season 1 had!! 9/10 for the first 4 episodes!!

I LOVE MASH AND HIS REALISTIC TAKES.

The pacing got completely thrown off after episode 5. Did we really need those fight to be THAT long and drawn out?? No. I get that animation studios are limited in how far into the manga they can go in a given season, but I would have preferred anime original filler over 2 episodes of metal punch dude, and the whole "chamber of secrets" esque episodes...

Despite being sorely disappointed by the second half of season 1, I did finish it. Starting episode 1 of Season 2, I completely forgot where the last episode had left off and it hasn't even been that long!! I had to laugh at just how much my brain had tuned out by the end, which is sad, because this is such an amazing premise.

HOWEVER

SEASON 2 EPISODE 1 BROUGHT BACK THE DRIVE TO WATCH!!

The first episode of season 2 doubles down on poking ALL sorts of holes in the plot of Harry Potter and sidestepping any massive overlaps to avoid copyright. BUT IT'S SO OBVIOUS, I LOVE IT.

We started off with a small recap of the end of season 1 and honestly I don't remember most of it happening.

Woo they beat the Tom Riddle/Abel Walker, Woo they won tons of points for their dormitory, Woo Mash's super special "magic spell" the Suplex!!!

But oh no! There is a rumor that Mash can't use magic has gotten out! To be fair, it was only a matter of time. Bicep Smash Magic can only get you so far lolol.

The little celebration party is very cute, and suddenly Abel and Abyss show up, and Mash is just totally chill with them joining in their party. Abel even brought a deck of cards and they're playing bullshit of all games lmfao

Personally I want to know why Dot has his mouth and face all bandaged up, but I assume that's Lemon's doing for some reason or another lol

Let me just say, I love Abel and Abyss. Abel is terrifying and carrying around his creepy doll and freaking Finn out, and literally just wants to have fun with everyone. He's far more incompetent, or maybe just normal? than he seems. And cares about Abyss!! And Abyss is doing his best to take care of his master, and thanks Mash for stopping them both. And can't talk to women!!

We love a traumatized bishonen.

Mash gets called to the Bureau of Magic and basically gets called a Mudblood to his face for not having magic and is being sentenced to death.

AND DRACO MALFOY SHOWS UP TO SAVE HIM.

You cannot dissuade me that this isn't another Draco.

And of course, to counter Draco/Ryoh Grantz, we get Knock Off Harry Potter and gang!

Neville with a dragon? Snow girl is Luna? The one with the book is Hermione? Obviously these are also original characters and there is no one to one with characters, but it's fun to try and place them.

Fake Harry Potter / Orter Madel says the most Not Harry Potter thing ever, and its hilarious that a character known for going against the rules has a caricature doing exactly the opposite.

Fuckin' mood Mash. Where the hell did RON come from??? ah.. his only purpose is to narrate what's happening. Makes sense.

The magi-parasite shows up, mob deals with, and it should be a done deal, but Orter continues to push the issue as Ryoh tries to stop him.

Will Mash be taken away and executed? He's not budging. Will Draco and Harry fight? What will become of Mash now that Dumbledore and Finn's Big Bro have shown up?

these two actually don't kiss all that often; due to the nature of their relationship and hya having the biggest stick on PLANET EARTH up his ass, things that would be considered par for the course intimacy wise he just kind of shoves off. i mean hell, he doesn't say amon's Actual Name until nearly the end of the book.

when they kiss, its hungry and unrestrained. the sexual tension? through the fucking roof. their kisses are more about channeling that inner desire to claim (and to be claimed in amon's case COUGH)

DAGMAR AND LILLIABET (celestial weddings)

i haven't talked about celestial weddings much but my god i'm not normal about any of these relationships; dag and lillia especially. their kisses are sweet and caring, full of love and longing and childlike wonder; they are childhood friends and each other's first loves and destied to be married even if dag wasn't going to take a stab at becoming the celestial ruler. they make me so UNBEARABLY soft

“You could start with a kiss.” Lilliabet’s arms tugged him closer until their lips brushed against one another’s. “I have been longing to kiss you for ages, Dag.”  “Isn’t it bad luck to kiss before a wedding day?” He quipped, but he closed his eyes and drew closer, pressing their lips together softly, but soundly. When Dagmar pulled back, Lilliabet took a moment to let their eyes flutter open, gazing up at him as though they were caught in a dream. Overhead a comet crossed the dark sky, but they were both too enraptured with the quiet intimacy of this moment to pay it much mind. 

PERI AND DANDY (peri & dandy)

these two are (literally) two halves of the same soul (right and left brain to be exact). whenever they kiss it's like coming home, its like everything that was off in the universe has realigned. its hungry and its passionate, but its also filled with desperation to be safe, to never be parted again.

He squeezed Dandy again. “Missed it.” He mumbled. Dandy looked him back in the eyes. “I missed you.” And finally the ritual was complete; Dandy, ever eager, crashed his lips against his. It was never elegant when they reunited; there was never any finesse. Dandy always kissed him like a man drowned and even Peri would admit to his own impatience.

GRAVES AND DOVE (the graves we dug)

oh these idiots. these absolutely toxic and struggling bafoons.

their kisses hurt and they're bittersweet. they're reminders of what they used to have before dove "died" and how they can never regain what they lost even if they so desperately want it back. its like a nice memory before the gut punch that all of this is wrong; the swill of bitter coffee underneath whipped cream, etc etc.

He straddled Graves’s lap, tracing that gloved hand down until it reached the first button of his shirt. Before he could pop it, Graves’s hand covered his own, surprisingly gently. “I know you’re lying.” He didn’t mean for his voice to come out like that, this… soft amid the tension. It did something to Dove, he could tell. The angry lines on his soft face smoothed, until that cherry lipped smile was the only thing left tugging at Graves’s heartstrings and then he was tasting it.  Dove pulled back, and as with everything, Graves let him do what he wanted. He popped the first button.  “Let me pretend.” Dove sighed. “That you’re not lying?” Graves found his hands already inching to that familiar seat on Dove’s waist. “That I want what you want.” Another button popped. “Just for a little while.”

N AND BEAU (dead rites)

its the type of "i shouldn't want this as much as i do" type of kiss. it feels forbidden (and technically is to a certain extent; vampires who sleep with or have relationships with humans in this world can face jail time for up to 15 years yikes) but there's this magnetism about bibi that n just finds himself helpless to resist. he does his best, though bibi doesn't make it quite easy. he's quite obsessed with n to put it mildly.

Before N could even process anything else, Beau’s lips were claiming his in a desperate kiss. His tongue pushed its way past his rosy red lips and plunged into his mouth, harsh and claiming and N couldn’t stop his head from spinning even if he tried. There was hardly a panic around them; in the back of his mind, N swore all he heard was a door opening, then shutting, but all he could focus on was Beau. N wound his hands tighter into the vampire’s hair, tugging his head to the side to kiss him deeper and Beau groaned into it, rocking his hips instinctively against the barely there fabric of N’s dress. One of his heels was lost in the sauce— he felt it drop to the floor when he hooked his legs tighter around Beau’s waist but he couldn’t bring himself to fully care. All that mattered was Beau’s lips on his, after a month of wanting him, craving him, this is exactly what he needed. 

CLEAR AND FORTE (the chronicles of lathsbury)

technically this is all epilogue/mid section between books 1 and 2, however, they're so TENDER with each other it hurts so good. its the kind of tooth rotting fluff that makes you squeal and hide your face in your hands. its all the butterflies of a first crush and a first love, the nerves, but also the reassurance that this is your friend, someone who you've trusted time and time again so why not with your heart too? it just makes me ache i'm so EMO about them

Kissing Forte was overwhelming, in the best way. Clear slowly let himself reply, pressing back gently, letting his eyes slowly fall closed and his arms slid up his firm chest to pull Forte closer. He went. His other arm came around to rest on Clear’s waist, and he tilted his head, letting the kiss fall deeper.  Clear smelled of lavender and fresh lenin, and Forte felt intoxicated by the way lithe hands slowly climbed into his hair, tugging gently, but purposefully. Forte licked gently at the lip pressed against his, and Clear easily opened his mouth, and their tongues slid languidly against one another— enough to hint at an underlying desire that they would perhaps explore later. Much later. For now, it was enough to prod, to acknowledge, to taste, to slowly savor.

RAYMOND AND LAURENT (vampires don't take roadtrips)

these two are the sort of "long time coming" kind of kiss. its slow and methodical and unhurried, but definitely exploratory. the "i didn't realize i could have this" type of kiss; the kind that seems never ending because to make sure its real you have to explore it

Laurent stroked long fingers against the bunched material of Raymond’s shirt tucked into his dress pants, and let his friend work his mouth open with long, languid drags of his tongue. Laurent’s eyes, half lidded and not fully closed, studied the half furrow of Raymond’s brows. If it was stress, or relief, pain or pleasure, he couldn’t tell. But he licked back against Raymond’s tongue as it started to retreat, coaxing him back to him after a scant parting for breath.

alright let me calm down that was a LOT of kisses and idk if you were really bargining for all that when you asked but i LOOOOOVE talking about any of my MANY couples so thank you again for asking lol

I watched a video about The Promised Neverland and decided to reread the manga since i literally have the books right next to me and MAAAAAN it's so nostalgic this is the one thing i would love to read for the first time again. I'm also just nostalgic for the time period in which i read it cuz it was back when my sisters and i generally had overlapping interests which mostly i initiated, we would meme ava roleplay together, and this was one of our last overlapping interests. We had local memes like "goodnight, I'm Don" and "STRATEGY" and "with my hands" we would joke about Yugo and Minerva and Ray and it was all so so fun. But also I'm nostalgic for not knowing what's gonna be next. I didn't know about the outside world or (no spoilers) I liked the art style and every character and how information was revealed and presented and how each chapter ended with a sort of cliffhanger and not knowing who to trust and awaiting what the protagonists are going to do in a seemingly hopeless situation IS ALL SO GOOD??? I can't believe i just casually forgot about this masterpiece

Anyway MAN i love this manga and i often forget it when thinking of my favorites but it's so so so so so so good and i love it so so so so so so much I'm literally on chapter 2 rereading it rn and i only have 4 books out of 10 (two volumes per book) i neeeeeed to buy the rest just to have it on my shelf to admire it also yeah reading it on paper is much more satisfying than on your phone LOL

Thanks! I actually get a bit worried about posting about bookbinding stuff and will often rein myself in. 😅

I didn’t know that bookbinding was a thing until @tohru-n contacted me about binding Entwined. I did some googling, and maaaaan. My mind was BLOWN. The realization that I could turn my fanfiction into physical books was an incredible moment. I felt such empowerment and validation and joy. I really enjoy the process. I love making journals. I love paper marbling. Typesetting is harder. You’ve got to take a lot of time thinking about design and themes, but that’s fun, too. And really satisfying when you find the right design that clicks with the story. I haven’t been able to bind any more of my fanfiction because for the past year I’ve been working on typesetting a cocktail book of my family’s favorite recipes. And there are a lot of them. So many that I got intimidated by the size and decided to divide it up into volumes. Once I get those bound, I’ll jump back into ficbinding. Maybe do Memento Mori!

Man did Dune pt. 2 get The Cousin Fight so very correct.

Much as I love the first few books, Frank Herbert was a raging homophobe. Like, wouldn't allow his gay son to be by his dying mother's bedside homophobe. In the text, the Harkonens are absolute piles of grotesque homophobic stereotypes. Can't be bothered to read, just watch the David Lynch version (who isn't homophobic himself but was very much about keeping the great Houses as they were on the page).

So while I was happy that DV removed that, I was a little headtilty with the first film cause, take away that grotesque parody of gay camp, what are the Harkonens? Okay, they're still torturers and polluters and selfish assholes...why?

And MAAAAAN did Feyd bring home what they are in this adaptation. They're still power-hungry flesh-crafters who don't care that they've killed their planet, but this time the focus is on how they craft people into weapons, and that hunger translates into brutality, with no tenderness or touch that doesn't end in pain. You don't need to see leacherous old gay men preying on boys, you can show these men who use people, all people around them, and then crumble them up and throw their bodies against a wall.

And there's Feyd. He's insatiable, he's experienced every kind of pleasure and inflicted every kind of pain and it's never enough, cause no one has ever loved him, and in the text it is far, far too late for that to be remedied. He killed his mother, he is an absolute monster.

There's Paul, who grew up just as privileged, just as well-trained, just as handsome and groomed for greatness. But he had a father who loved him, told him all he ever had to be was his son. Yeah Jessica manipulates him but it's still a mother's unconditional love, she'd still love him if he'd fucked off and never drank the worm kool-aid.

They're cousins, they face off, they stab each other through, one lives and one dies and it's the closest thing Feyd has ever felt to familial closeness.

Yeah no I 100% get why this one has folks going absolutely feral.

Boy oh boy where do i even start. Honestly it's always hard to pin down my favorite characters across all the fandoms cuz I've consumed a LOT of media,but I'll try to name the current ones (warning, i am such a basic bitch this list is gonna predictable afffff. Probably.)

10. Ai Hoshino (Oshi no ko)

Ngl if you ignore most of the weird shit that happens in oshi no ko, it is such a goddamn captivating story, Ai in particular. Idk i guess i really like the idea of this "ultimate idol" who is a pathological liar (due to honestly unfortunately circumstances) having to maintain this picture perfect image, to the point where people don't even perceived her as a real person. And it's really tragic considering all she ever wanted to is to actually say "i love you" and mean it for once.

9. Killua Zoldyck (Hunter×Hunter)

Was he start of my obsession with white haired characters? Nah, but he definitely contributed. Honestly, sassy brat with a soft spot that can absolutely fuck shit up? Yeah there was no way i wouldn't have been obsessed with Killua the second he got introduced. Honestly i like Gon almost as much, but i prefer moodie baddies to sunshine characters. I would genuinely dedicate another 10 hours minimum to talk about him, but i don't think ppl will care enough to read so yeeah

8. Sunset Shimmer (MLP)

I wasn't really in the mlp fandom, so i have no idea how Sunset was perceived initially (i would assume negatively, but then again idk) so i am going off of the fact my lil sisters used to haTE on her in the first movie, but MAAAAAN I LIKED HER BITCHY SELF EVEN BACK THEN. The former star pupil of princess Celestia???? That left to another world cuz of her own hubris???? AND SHE'S PUNK ROCK???? I mean she got redeemed and joined the main six and all, but overall, probably my favorite mlp character (still mourn the bitchy attitude tho, in that regard i prefer Starlight but i digress)

7. Sans Undertale

I mean. Yeah. I already said I'm basic as fuck but like. At least i don't wanna fuck him. Anywaaay, i guess it's the air of mystery to this seemingly chill guy, who just hangs around and tells bad jokes and somehow aware of the timelines more than the rest, probably related to Gaster in some way, and maybe he's not even a monster cuz monsters don't bleed and he fucking does, what does this all mean TOBY FOX I NEED ANSWERS- and he has arguably the best fight in the entire game, so yknow. Cool guy

6. Gwen Stacy (Spiderverse)

I liked her in "In to the Spiderverse" but i absolutely loved her in ATSV. Her struggles and mistakes felt so real and I'm so glad they decide to focus on her this film (the opening sequence dead ass my favorite scene in the whole movie) and explore her backstory with Peter's death and her father, it's just adding the depth to a character that was already great just UGH chef's kiss

5. Tooru Oikawa (Haikyuu)

God he has such a slappable face, i love him. I knew from the second when the fangirls screamed, i would either hate him or love him. Every scene he was in, he served (pun intended), he slayed and made me cry. I know decent junk of the fandom are avid Oikawa haters but they can honestly suck my dic-

4. Osamu Dazai (Bungoe Stray Dogs)

Goofy ass detective with a dark past, homosexual rival and who's also a suicidal maniac? Yeah this was tailor made for me. Can you tell i have a type because i definitely do. I just really like mfkas with slappable faces. I am a sucker for redeemed bad guys, who are now try to be good cuz 💫reasons💫. AND i am also weak for mentor apprentice trops (Atsushi/Dazai shippers back off, i bite and definitely have rabies)

3. Satoru Gojo (Jujutsu Kaisen)

Speaking of my obsession with white haired guys. Yeah, I'm not sure what can i even say that haven't been said abt this guy and reasons to love him (fuck u gege) honestly will i ever stop loving side characters who are often silly mentor figures, with lots of baggage, a gay rival and too much angst? I can only say one thing.

2. Maomao (The Apothecary diaries)

BSODGWOWBSHSOSNS9WHSOSBISGWJWVSVDIWJWJEJIEHEIEHJEBEIS. Ahem, okay so hands down my favorite female protagonist of all time. God she is just perfect. Istg all u people who never watched Apothecary diaries I BEG U TO WATCH IT PLSSSS IT'S SO GOOD. Even if you don't watch anime, i promise you this show is absolutely worth the time. Maomao is what happens when you write a good no, GREAT female character without the whole anime bs. Like???? She has her own strength and weaknesses and she doesn't need to be physically strong (full offense, marvel) or be "not like the other girls" to be great.

1. Kaveh (Genshin impact)

So uhhhh, you can really blame Will Stetson for this one. I genuinely couldn't have cared less about genshin or this random blond if it wasn't for "Writing on the Wall". It started with a banger ass song, and ended with arguably my favorite character in all of media ever. I think one of my favorite things abt Kaveh, is that compared to some of the other characters in genshin, he's really just a guy. Like bro missed the entire archon quest, mfka was just minding his own business. He is tortured architect and honestly bro has taken so many Ls in life it's kinda crazy. And well the fact that he has "a roommate" just adds more to him. Gay rival and all

Aaaaand that's 10 characters. Honestly i wouldn't call it my top 10 favorite of all time. I probably forgot some of the characters that i used to be obsessed with at some point. I just picked the ones that came first to mind :3
