Ludovika vs Shuri, a facial comparison breakdown

While it's obvious that Ludovika and Shuri have their similarities, as pointed out by various members of the ASM cast, let's break down some of their differences, shall we?

But before we do, let's address a few things!

ORKA takes design seriously! We can't just chalk up slight differences to "one-off mistakes." As you can see below, she did a study on her OWN designs, micro detailing down to the curve of each character's eyebrows. But to be fair, we will only be using art from recent chapters, as ORKA's style has evolved since the early chapters.

Another reason why we will be only using recent chapters is to avoid differences that may be as a result of Shuri being several years younger than Ludovika. I will also try my best to take this into account as we go.

First things first, let's get the obvious differences out of the way. Ludovika has a lavender hair, parted down the middle and golden eyes. Meanwhile. Shuri has light pink hair parted to the side with green eyes. So you might be thinking, if not for the color differences, they would look exactly the same!

But that's not the case! In some instances, seen from Max or Johannes' POV, Ludovika and Shuri almost seem 1:1. However! We must take into account that given their history with her, they are unreliable narrators, and may show a warped perspective on their memories of both girls.

So why don't we remove all the color! Here we have Ludovika on the left and Shuri on the right down below.

Since we don't have a 1:1 shot, here's the two in similar lighting situations with similar expressions and another with a similar angle.

Here are all the points of differences I noticed below!

I decided to list here everything that I want! I will choose a name for this list as I write it down.

My little list:

• Photographic memory: I remember everything that I see, read and listen to. But if I decide that I don’t want to remember something, I’ll just not remember. So, yeah, remember perfectly everything that I WANT to remember.

• Desired appearance: I want a nose that just complements my face — a just perfect nose for me. The tip is small and its just perfectly tilted upwards. My lips are full and soft, being the perfect balance of adorable and sexy. My eyebrows are fuller and just follow a perfect movements. My eyelashes are curled and full, complementing my eyes, that are completely black but also shiny somehow? My forehead is perfect, just perfect �� the perfect size and shape. My face has just enough…ahhhh…fat? I don’t have smile lines, for example. It’s just perfect. My face is perfect and everything I do and every angle it moves is perfect.

My body looks kind of like the “My kingdom” girls (it’s a hentai manhwa, and yeah It’s weird but i just liked the artstyle). I have a small waist, with just enough fat, and wide ass hips and a big bubble butt, but that is also pretty soft? Same thing with my 🍒, they are the perfect size: big enough so that it gets very close between each other. It’s upturned(?) and very soft too. My thighs are very thick, my arms are slimmed, with just enough fat. My body ir hairless, is very bright and I don’t have any “strawberry spots” — It seems as if I shaved even though I didn’t.

“This is stupid,” he muttered, “I’m just gunna look dumb.”

“Hush,” you replied. You gripped his stubbled chin between your thumb and forefinger and turned his face to line the other lid. “Don’t doubt my skills. You look hot.”

You’d gone for bold winged eyeliner-- a bit more extreme than what you’d usually wear, but you wanted your boyfriend’s first makeup experience to be memorable. 

Jean was pretty particular about his style. No to the point of narcissism--although, some of the other guys might disagree--but the man knew what he looked good in and stuck to it. You’d been begging to put makeup on him for ages and he’d always vehemently refused. 

That is, until now. Your friends Bertolt and Reiner were finally tying the knot after what felt like a decade together. It was only fitting that their engagement party be as unapologetically queer as they were. Or, as Reiner had worded it in the group chat, no gender, only vibes, stirring up confused excitement among the rest of you and a sweat drop emoji from his fiancé. 

Knowing your friends, the party was bound be a debaucherous disaster. You’d been looking forward to it for weeks.

Back in the present, Jean blinked his eyes open and peered up at you. The wings of his eyeliner were more or less even, to your relief. It brought out the natural sharpness of his gaze tenfold. You’d clipped his bangs back with a pair of barrettes-- the dusky pink matched the fabric of his billowy trousers. A mesh top brought the whole look together, hugging his lean pecs and flattening his smattering of chest hair. A layered combination of both of your jewelry was the metaphorical cherry on top.

You looked good too, of course--comfortably formless in your slouchy skirt and one of his sweater vests--but Jean looked damn good. You were almost jealous.

You smiled at him. “I really outdid myself this time. Maybe I should become a makeup artist.”

Jean snorted and rose up from his desk chair, necklaces clinking together. “As long as you can keep paying your half of the rent, I’ll support you, babe.” He went over to the mirror hanging over your shared dresser and inspected his face. “Huh. Not bad.”

“We’re not done yet,” you said. You patted the seat of the chair and he wandered back over. “Gotta finish off with the lips. I think this color will look good.” You held up a tube of lip gloss for his approval.

Jean frowned. “It looks like mud.”

“Melted chocolate,” you corrected, unscrewing the lid and dabbing excess product off the wand. “It goes on pretty sheer. Now pucker up.”

Jean pursed his lips in an overdramatic way that had you giggling and smacking his shoulder, taking care not to drop the lip gloss wand in your hand. He grinned, expression going soft, then relaxed his mouth so you could swipe the gloss onto his bottom lip.

Your laughter faded as you concentrated on the task at hand. The brownish color of the gloss was fairly neutral but overlining would probably stand out in a bad way. Jean’s bottom lip was a bit fuller than his top one-- you ran the flat part of the wand across it, leaving sticky, shimmery product behind. The tip of his tongue peeked out from behind his bottom row of teeth. Combined with the smolder of his black-lined gaze, it made something hot squirm inside your gut.

Maybe you’d made him look a little too good.

You swallowed and quickly finished applying the lip gloss. You didn’t miss the way Jean watched the bob of your throat. “There,” you murmured, “now rub your lips together.”

He hummed, not taking his eyes off of your face, and brought his hand up to cup the side of your neck. You could feel the cool press of his rings against your skin. “I could do that. Or my beautiful professional makeup artist could do it for me.”

“Corny,” you admonished, but didn’t resist when he pulled you down to meet him in a kiss. 

It was chaste at first-- simply the press of your mouth against his. But the tiny sigh he let out made you want more. Gloss smeared between you as you deepened the kiss, slick and artificially sweet, and Jean tugged you down until you were perched in his lap. Your skirt bunched up around your hips-- the silky material of his trousers rubbed against the skin of your inner thighs, dragging a groan out of your throat. His hot tongue rolled against your own, followed by his hips, and you forced yourself to pull away before you got too lost in each other.

“Careful,” you said, voice rough, “I spent too much time on your dumb face just for you to mess it up now.”

Jean dug his fingers into the curve of your waist. Thankfully, his eyeliner was still intact. The same couldn’t be said about the lip gloss-- it’d smeared all over his mouth and chin, making it look like he’d gone to town on some gravy.

You were about it make fun of him for it when he reached up and swiped his thumb across your cupid’s bow. He brought it to his mouth and sucked. “Mhm. You were right, though-- this shit really does taste like melted chocolate.”

Honestly, I feel like I’ve given soo much thought to my lips over the years that I feel like I have more thoughts on this question than anyone wants to hear lol. Stuff like this is just like some of my favorite things to think about. Like any brain power I have goes to this lol.

I’ll ask a tldr cause I like talking about stuff like this too much. Some of it feels like common knowledge I’m including but not everyone knows that stuff always.

Def a big part is getting lucky w genetics. I have pretty full natural lips that are more rounded (basically meaning not as wide but still full, and like from what I know about proportions from drawing people, my mouth is a little narrow), and I feel like this gets closer to that bratz doll lip look. I also try to exaggerate it in picture some but having my lips parted a little, and then sometimes tilting my head back some, that little motion makes my top lip look fuller. You can also fake a rounder mouth w lip liner but having it like come in faster on the edges, which I do sometimes on my lower lip bc of how I bit of a double lip line on the sides.

I think another part to like the current filler lip look that feels popular to me is like some more projection, I think I naturally have a nice amount of projection going on and having a well defined vermillion border on my top lip helps to show this. But there’s also tips to fake this. So the vermillion boarder is like the little line between your lip line and the rest of your skin. It’s usually a bit lighter. So like if you go in w like a lighter color concealer to highlight around the edges of your lips, particularly your top lip. It can add to like faking projection and your lips getting more light there. You can also go in w a bit of contour behind tbis like around your cupids bow and under your bottom lip.

Lip care is also a thing. Honestly thinking about my lips had been better motivation to drink water than like how I need it to live sometimes. I like using a lip mask a bunch, and like regularly exfoliate my lips. My prefered way for that is getting a wash cloth wet w as hot of water you can comfortably handle and hold it to your lips for like a min or so, and then scrub at them w the wash cloth. Exfoliating like this also adds a temporary extra plump.

And couldn’t finish all this wo talking about lipstick and gloss. Gloss is alwaysss going to make your lips look the plumpest. If you’re not a gloss girl, just having some in the center can help. Also avoiding matte lipsticks (unless topped w gloss) bc they just make your lips look soo flat. Soo happy that trend is in the past for now. Anything shimmery is also good. The more light reflecting the more you can see the dimension for your lips. Another trick is to apply a light color in the center and blend it out. Since I like a lot of light pink lipsticks I actually have some white ones I’ll use to blend into the center sometimes to fake some extra definition. Alternatively you can make the outside of your lips look darker w a darker lip liner, you’d want to blend the line inwards to now have a harsh line there tho.

TLDR: genetics, lips parted, hydration and exfoliation, gloss, and then there some makeup tricks to contour that can help.
