i dont know how to bring it up to yall but “fallen warrior miyamoto” is actually dead. i’m not kidding about the ghost part. he lived and died at the tail end of the sengoku period and haunts ROTTMNT’s present day new york, because his swords—his physical link to the world of the living—are part of an invaluable samurai exhibit based in topside new york.

(he also haunts the clubbing scene in the Ghost Quarter of the Hidden City every Friday night, but that’s not immediately relevant.)

and usagi—the one who’s little and seventeen and not dead because his branch of the timeline got interrupted during the battle that was supposed to kill him—finds Fallen Warrior Miyamoto incredibly annoying.

Okay, so I finally finished the live action atla and I have some thoughts.

I feel like they have stripped away the soul of the cartoon. By taking away Aangs fun, Kataras angriness, and Sokkas humour the story feels empty. Also, someone said Zuko doesn’t say honour once, which is truly detrimental to his character.

By not having any filler episodes, we didn’t get to learn who these characters were, and they didn’t get to bond with each other, so it made no sense when they kept telling each other they were family like guys you met a week ago.

I think they tried to make up for it, including as many fan favourite moments as possible, and by sticking to the key original plot beats. But in doing this they’re getting there in very different ways, which don’t always make sense, and feel really crammed together and rushed. I think they needed to let some of these moments go and tell their version of the story, because let’s be honest, the show really doesn’t hold up on its own and I think the main reason people are enjoying it is because of these references, not because of the story as a whole.

It seems like they’re trying to make a live action cartoon rather than a live action adaptation of a cartoon. All the wigs are terrible, Yues in particular. All the costumes look really cheap, I think partly this is due to them sticking too close to the cartoon and wanting the characters to look exactly the same when it doesn’t fit in this new medium. I think another reason for this is that particularly the water tribe costumes don’t look fit for use, the coats are all way too thin and I cannot believe that they would keep anyone warm enough at the poles. I think another reason for this is none of the clothes look worn, and they all look freshly ironed, which makes it difficult to believe in this world.

I will give them credit though, making the 41st Zukos crew was so smart and I love it.

so The Way U Are (Unplugged) gets a live stage (MNet) and Rebel gets two more stages (SBS One Take at Inkigayo and Mnet) but i see nothing for Rodeo/nothing else for Jungle. aight. ok. guess i'm meant to languish or something

(post contains mia s2 spoilers and also may be semi incoherent i've been brought low by 4am belaf and vueko feels and must exorcise them like demons to sleep and have spammed the ganja server enough today already)

belaf and vueko are thematic opposites but in a complementary manner, not an oppositional manner. her big symbolism thing is darkness, and his is sight, which requires light/visibility, the opposite of darkness -- but there is no clash between these ideas as they manifest between the two. instead he encourages her to look INTO the dark. he understands the dark is a safe and warm thing for her. his quest for a revelation through gazing with determination and fondness isn't meant to cast a searing light into it or tear it away.

and Vueko so values what she finds when she looks into the darkness that she dies with those words on her lips, thinking about two things: how much she loves Irumyuui, and how grateful she is for Belaf’s words about gazing fiercely into that dark, the act of which led Vueko to her.
