I yet have to write an actual long fic with an unhappy ending, but i once made Steve come back wrong and killed everyone but Eddie and him for a ficlet, does that count? 😅

All of my long fics have happy endings, but Hic sunt dracones probably has the happiest to me. They're mated and disgustingly in love and it's flower crowns and apple pie and hot, hot monsterfucking forever after. 🐉🔥❤️

I co-wrote an original work with a school friend some 20 years ago. And by co-wrote I mean we took turns with the document and key-smashed what we thought should happen next where the other had left off. 🤣

The King’s Gift will be a very close collaboration between @house-of-the-moving-image and I bc we've developed the idea and the entirety of the plot together and are bringing it alive through our respective mediums. It's heaps of fun! ✨️

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

It's Steddie, people. Not only because they've quite literally eroded my brain, but also because of the wonderful people I've found and the beautiful experiences I've made and continue to make in this fandom. I've never been active in any fandom before, but I'm so, so glad I've taken the leap. 

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?

I try to finish all my WIPs and am very much committed to finishing the two I have ongoing rn. 

That being said, there's a bunch of microfics and drabbles I'd love to expand on if I ever find the time (lake monster and ballerina Steve, I see you). 😅

I've repeatedly been told that I create very vivid images with my writing, and that's something I find really lovely. And I love world building. ✨️🥰

Wordy bitch disease. I ramble, I spiral, I spin completely out of control. The amount of fics that ended up being much longer than I initially thought is embarrassing.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I’ve never actually done that. I’d definitely enlist the help of someone who is proficient enough in the language in question to ensure I don’t make an utter ass of myself. 😅

19. First fandom you wrote for?

The wizard who must not be named. I must’ve been fourteen or something? It was probably so bad, and sometimes I think I'd like to re-read it again, but it’s now lost on some hard drive in a junkyard somewhere, hopefully never to be seen again. 🪦

20. Favorite fic you've written?

I love all of my fics, each for its own reasons, but Hic sunt dracones will forever hold a special place in my heart. It is everything I ever dreamed of when I fantasized about writing and publishing my own fics but was too shy to do so. I’ve met and befriended amazing people over it. It has fanart. Even close to one year after I finished it, people are still telling me how much they loved it, and it feels so wonderful to know my writing resonated so much with somebody out there. I can never talk about it without getting all up in my feels. 🐉🥲💕

ok about how quickly i'm writing these, i surprised even myself with that because even a couple years ago when i was at the peak of my fanfic writing days, i'd post like once a day (on my old blog which i deleted) and i've never been that productive again. im happy that people like roose though theres like a noticable lack of content for him.

AND YEAH SDLKFJDF happy to please only came up in my head because i saw a tiktok that said book roose said his first two wives would lay there silently and he found it somewhat endearing that walda would actually be vocal, which i thought was kind of sweet and out of character for him to say. my mind started wandering to what it would look like in action.

i can absolutely imagine like the second time they have sex, reader is very shy, covering her face as you said. and when roose tells her that he wants to see her, she forces herself to look at him. i think the dynamic i wrote in this fic, he's more loving with her so he'd probably prefer to take reader in missionary, particularly with his forearms resting on either side of her head, forehead pressed to hers. it'd make every noise she makes more audible, every microreaction more visible, and every time he wants to he can just lean down and brush her lips with his.

reader's probably braver and tries less to hide her pleasure going into the future.

roose probably never felt this kind of passion with anyone and he'd actually feel excited to bed her, sometimes catching his thoughts wandering during the day. then he snaps himself out of it and is like bruh im stupid theres so much work to do rn and im thinking about my wife. but seeing her is definitely always the highlight of his day.

on the overstimulation, i think reader probably helped him realize how much he likes eating pussy for sure. because shes so sensitive and reactive and she'll grab his hair and buck against his face shamelessly. he just thinks she's the most beautiful, most sexy thing he's ever seen and even after reader has cum so many times, it's addictive to him. he's always like "one more, i know you can give me one more, sweet wife."

its so much to the point of like when he finally fucks her, reader is squirming around so much and he has to calm her down with little kisses to her forehead and temple. and she can feel it every time his pelvis rubs against her clit.

i will be serving hot meals. i dont really know if i can finish by tonight but i have a lot of wips cooking up. i dont know how my posting frequency will change after school starts though so we'll see (it's starting soon)

hi rae!! i was wondering if you could tell us more about your writing process :)) im very curious about it. like, do you brainstorm then write or write whatever flows or both. do you painstakingly line edit after or just give it a glance for any mistakes. im mostly curious about atydsp bc its so exceptionally well written and it absolutely boggles my mind that you were posting a ch a day. how much of your time for atydsp involved editing/scrapping & rewriting/etc? xx

hi sure i'd be happy to!! gonna put this under a cut tho bc it got long lol

for atydsp (+ my captive prince rewrite) my process was pretty different from my other writing in that i basically descended into a feverish haze of obsession and literally abandoned all other hobbies just to write bc i loved the story so much lol. for atydsp especially that thing was like...my only hobby for half a year like i was not reading or watching tv or movies or playing video games etc bc the only thing i wanted 2 do in my free time was. write.

when i'm rewriting a story from another character's pov i usually have the ch of whatever i'm rewriting open next to word doc and just kinda go 2 town. i think it's much easier when you aren't having to do the heavy lifting when it comes to plot and are following an outline, bc obviously you aren't having to do much story planning urself--although for the later chs of atydsp where i sort of broke off from the og version + the chs where r + s are separated + i had to write new scenes for s i did have to spend more time planning, writing, editing, etc, but i didn't start posting the story until i'd already written the first 20 chs so. i had a pretty large buffer and that combined with the obsession combined with the shorter chapters + outline to follow is why i was able to post so frequently.

when i'm writing a new fic there's much more brainstorming involved bc obviously i am having 2 come up w a whole new plot!! but bc i'm only writing fic for fun i don't really take it too seriously and usually i just cobble together a couple of fun scenes or tropes that i like and then sort of...fill in the blanks? like if i'm like "ok i want to write a scene where x happens and then later a scene where y happens" i usually end up figuring out a plot/how to keep the story moving between those two scenes, rather than vice versa (having like...a coherent plot and then coming up with fun scenes that fit into it). like my current wip started as just a single idea of "ooh what if there was a werewolf fighting ring" and then it become a voldemort-won au bc i was like hmmm in what situation would r + s meet at a werewolf fighting ring...and then i decided it would eventually turn into a horcrux hunt bc i was like "ok if r + s grew up in a voldemort-won au...what would james be doing...." and now the story is continuing to change as i continue to have ideas of like "ooh what if i incorporated this trope" or "ooh this would be such a fun scene to write." like lily + james's entire dynamic in this fic basically grew out of an idea that i had for a single argument that i wanted to write lmao

anyway when it comes to actual writing process i usually go into a ch with just a vague outline of a few bullet points, and if i'm stuck on something i send a voicenote to my sister just like...talking through my thoughts + what i want to happen + usually by the end of the voicenote i'll have figured out what direction i wanna take things. or sometimes i'll ask her opinion (the ending i'm planning rn for atwmd changed completely after one such consultation...had an idea but then talked myself out of it but then my twin was like wait....i think that idea works better than what ur currently planning....and i was like damn maybe ur right....). so most of my planning + brainstorming is basically just me daydreaming + then talking 2 myself lmao.

when it comes to actual writing i'm pretty slow because i'm too much of a perfectionist and i need everything to sound right. immediately. like i have heard the advice so many times "just get something down on the page then go back and edit it later" but i am like. incapable of following it lol i will write a sentence and then read over it three times to decide if i like it before i move on. the plus side to this is that my chs usually need very little editing; i generally just read over them once or twice and make a few minor tweaks and i'm good to go!

anyway. i have had some similar inquiries abt my writing process etc in the past so i'll tag this ask w 'writing tips' bc i think that's what i've used b4; hopefully this satisfied ur curiosity!

Rain - What's the most emotional scene you've ever written?

This is a pretty tough question to answer because I wrote a lot of very emotional scenes... I think one that was the hardest to get through was the entirety of The Other Crimson Horror, dealing with the repercussions of the Eleventh Doctor literally assaulting Jenny :|

Snow - Who is your coldest/most stoic character and how do they express themselves?

I'd have to say, probably Seven of Nine? I haven't written a lot of J/7, and sort of left my WIPs to vegetate, but she'd canonically be a rather stoic character. Most of my characters tend to become very emotional at least when their loved ones are in danger. (This of course depends at which point you would put Seven, but I'm sort of stuck halfway through S6 of Voyager rn, sooo I'd go for late S4 or S5 as a point of reference) She communicates fairly directly, I'd say? Instead of relying on social code of people she has not grown up with, she prefers to directly state what bothers her/what she observes, and I honestly really admire that about her.

Wildfire - Who is your most emotional character and why?

I'd say it depends greatly on the fic I'm writing, but the (Thirteenth) Doctor and Vastra are probably battling for first place. Vastra would win, though, because I am putting her through some fuuuun stuff XD The aspects I want to explore are often those the show/audios/books left unexplored or only brushed, and Vastra (as well as the Doctor) has such a plethora of trauma to choose from? And she canonically sucks at communicating (I love you, but please for the love of god communicate with your wife!!!), which makes all those bottled up emotions even more delicious. Also she will start snapping necks the second Jenny is in danger and I think that is very hot of her.

Lightning - Have you ever spontaneously added something to your story that you wouldn't have added normally? If so, what made you do it?

Oh I do it a lot! Going to go with my Turn Loose the Mermaids series for this, which was originally supposed to be one part, but then @capybaraonabicycle sort of encouraged and inspired me so much that I continued writing it, and suddenly I had four parts planned out. In part 2, I for instance added an entiiiire section with Thasmin and Vastra getting new clothes (hey, my requirement for that part was literally "Vastra gets a skirt that goes spin and is delighted by it"). For the third part, I originally wanted to briefly introduce the crew, but it sort of turned into an entire chapter on its own, so I practically added all of that. There are also like... Two? Three? side plots I added to the fourth part (that I still have to write), which introduce more characters or tie the ones we already know closer together. I think I just go with what comes to me in the moment a lot, even though I try to stick to my outlines. Often, I am just guided towards something new, though! And I feel like a lot of my fics are much better with additional stuff I improvised along the way as opposed to the very first, original outline.

Rainbow - What do you think makes your story unique/stand out?

I like to think demons run, souls linger covers a part of the story that hasn't been told before and fills out a gap between canoncial information, while also giving a fairly good insight into Jenny and Vastra's introspective lives and feelings after the events of Demons Run.

Eclipse - What's the most common reoccuring theme of your WIP(s)?

Something about loneliness and codependency, I think. Trust as well, it's all aspects I very much relate to and find interesting to explore. I think another one would be dealing with nightmares/bad memories of some sort, but loneliness and codependency are the most common ones. There's just something about it that speaks to me, always has.

Clear Skies - How long have you been writing your current WIP?

Seeing as I have like... Eight? WIPs (that I've actually started writing and more than 40 ideas), I'll answer this for... The Madame, the Maid, and the Mistress, I think, which is still half finished and there were about seven WIPs that got in the way XD I started really writing it last May, so it's been almost eleven months... I'm not half as far as I would have liked, but I wrote a lot of other fics since then as well.

Fun Fact: I've been working on my longest WIP for over three years nearly non-stop now, and we're at about 250k?

What’s a story you’d love to write but haven’t even started yet?

oh man, that's a good question

this is something i've actively been struggling with, actually. i don't get very many ideas for fics tbh. the reason i've only been talking about/messing around with itbotn, biwy, and metal!pero & ezra is because those are literally the only stories in my head right now.

i see a lot of writers with like, mountainous wip piles and i just can't relate. my brain doesn't operate that way. i never considered myself a writer until itbotn came into my room at night and strangled me in my sleep, so i don't really think like a writer, if that makes sense. i also deeply struggle with imposter syndrome because of it. i doubt my skills a lot because it feels like i'm telling rather than showing and i have a hard time writing what i'm seeing in my head. i know that'll come with practice/continuing to write, but it's a struggle rn lol

i'm also not very sexually driven (this is hilarious because i'm writing a porn au) so i can't just like... make little pwp oneshots on the fly like a lot of people.

i know this is unnecessary information, but basically i don't really have one rn? there are couple characters i'd love to write for, but i haven't come up with anything.

there's a pearl jam song that gives me heavy joel vibes but idk how i'd translate it rn. i'm also looking at jack a lot lately, but again, nothing has stuck out quite yet.

Snake: OK so if you know me, you know what I'm going to say. This man HAS ME in his chokehold, okay? This man could throw me on the ground, stomp on me and I'd thank him. Somehow in such a short time he's become one of my favorite characters of all time. He's got the heart, the look and everything. I love the fact that he never stops trying. <3 Even though the world doesn't deserve this at all!!! I love him.

also I'm more of a moobs girl but i realized the importance of ass thanks to him. I also like thighs a lot so we will sexualize the old man.

Finn: FINN IS LITERALLY ONE OF MY FAV SW CHARACTERS and I just get SO MAD thinking how badly he was treated in the trilogy. I had such high hopes for him so it was so sad to watch it all fall apart. I still think if the EU ever starts to think about continuing on where TROS left, he still could be made into a Jedi knight. I WANT TO BELIEVE. (So far the only thing we have is the LEGO movies lmfao. Even they know that Finn should be training !!)

Anyway. I always thought that giving a redemption arc to a random stormtrooper was a great idea. Imagine if he became a full on Jedi ok not going back to that whole rant I absolutely love how big hearted he is and the way he got super courageous even in the first movie alone.

OKAY I CAN'T NOT SAY IT John Boyega is hot and I'm thankful for his hair transition in the later movies - especially in TROS he was HOT ASF.

Snake: If this was an unpopular opinion about MG in general HO BOY WOULD I HAVE A MILLION. IDK what can be said about Snake that would be unpopular. I can't think of a fun fact either. ;_; so I'll widen the question (like i want snake to widen the gap between my legs ok ill see myself out) and say that I don't like how Snake was sidelined after MGS3 was hyped so hard and he became like a secondary character the BB and this is my villain origin story,

Finn: ok again. I don't think I have anything that would be unpopular opinion about Finn since I think we majorly agree that Finn was handled very badly. But I guess I can say one thing - I don't find the way he wants to be with Rey certainly A BAD THING. She was literally the first person after Poe who believed in Finn, and him tricking her made him feel awful about it. She was one of the reasons why he had changed his ways and I love their relationship, platonic or romantic. They are the best <3

2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to?

Y'know, I've really wanted to try my hand at a story about a character living some kind of double life that their closest loved ones (whether they be romantic partners or otherwise) are unaware of. I'm talking something extreme, like one character being a serial killer or something. I'm aware that that's a recipe for disaster, but I think it'd be interesting to explore a conflict like that--it just doesn't work with the WIPs I'm focusing on rn.

(I did try to write a fic like this when I was still into YB, but tbh I might delete that fic because I'm trying to avoid that fandom now)

... Now that I think about it, this conflict is at the heart of Femurs and Feelings, but I want to explore it More and In Other Fun Ways.

3. Is there a trope you wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole?

Okay I finally thought of a trope I actively hate aside from ones that are just blatantly offensive- anyway I don't think I'd ever want to write a hanahaki fic. I'm sure that there are many amazing stories featuring it, but honestly it just makes me uncomfortable nine times out of ten when I see it. I don't mean this as a diss to those who like it!

However, personal experience with a person guilt-tripping me about me not reciprocating romantic feelings just makes the whole concept of "this person will literally die if their crush doesn't return their feelings" not sit right with me personally. Again, no judgments to those who feel differently! You do you! It's just not for me!

(I'm aware that this isn't all there is to the trope and I apologize for oversimplifying it, but honestly I just don't like how it's been done whenever I've seen it and I just... no, I'm good, thank you.)

7. Share a snippet from one of your favorite pieces of prose you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

Anyway one of my favorite pieces of prose that I've ever written comes from Femurs and Feelings, a collab fanfic that my friend Spoods and I have been writing since... oh god since my sophomore year of college wait-

Anyway the excerpt I want to share is from one of my chapters that I have posted on here somewhere but I don't feel like digging up the link to that <3 Also, don't worry about the fact that one of the characters here is named Xavier. He's not a self-insert or anything, it's a fun coincidence <3 He's my friend's OC.

This excerpt is violent so I'm gonna put it under the cut actually- But I'll say that what I like about it is that I think I did a good job here portraying how Addison's trauma throughout their life has affected them and continues to affect them even long after the events happened. As we all probably know, writing about the long-reaching impact of trauma is MY SHIT.

But, yeah, if you're not comfortable reading a description of a character being choked to death (in a nightmare, but still), tread lightly!

At first, they saw Jackson’s face, screwed up in a snarl and bleeding from several scratches. Then it morphed into the face of the scarred parts pirate, smirking as though he was enjoying every second of choking the life out of them. Then, the eyes turned a bright emerald green, and the scars faded away to reveal Xavier.

Xavier, who was looking at them completely impassively, as though this was simply business as usual. He was unaffected by their frantic thrashing, and at most they saw a flash of annoyance in his eyes. As though they were a burdensome pest, an annoyance that he was glad to be rid of.

He seemed to grow bored of Addison’s struggles, then, and turned their head sharply at an angle. Addison felt it as their neck snapped, and they let out one last strangled gasp for air as the life bled out of them and onto the cold concrete.

That was when they’d woken up, screaming and clutching their throat as if that would stop the phantom hands from strangling the life out of them.

Man I really wanna talk about this more now whoops-

8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it.

Okay I was going to share some dialogue from Femurs and Feelings or Twelve Years, but honestly I think this dialogue from a different fic I wrote and never posted is one of my favorite bits I've written.

The context being that one character is attempting some necromancy <3

"Why are you doing this, again? You know he was an outlaw, right? Like. A murderer."

"Well, we all have our flaws. And I wanna see if I can do it."

"And, like, wouldn’t it be rude to bring him back to life? What if he was enjoying the afterlife or whatever?”

“First of all, there are multiple afterlives. You have to be more specific. Second of all, he’s not going to remember whichever one he ended up in.”

“And, I gotta ask, why do you have to do this in my apartment?”

“Because my landlady doesn’t like it when I do rituals inside.”

I like this dialogue because I think it introduces the characters' personalities and dynamic pretty well? And also it very quickly establishes a bit of worldbuilding for this story without going into too much unnecessary detail. I might go back to this one at some point actually-
