the electric hush of an audience right before a performance begins , fighting the impulse to change your hair at any minor inconvenience , worn out pointe shoes collecting dust in the closet of a home you'll never see again , glittery eyeshadow catching the light , the bittersweet ache of getting what you wanted , a bloody nose dripping onto silk stockings , a box full of vintage jewelry , the first thunderstorm of the summer , getting your lipstick on a stranger's teeth , imported french cigarettes at the bottom of a dance bag , a smile that gives the impression you're hiding a secret , spinning on your tip toes until you see stars .

❛ ✧ ── 𝒔𝒖𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒓𝒚 。
━ olivia louise hartley was only twenty years old when she gave birth to her first and only child , lorena sofia hartley . a hairdresser ( and now a single mother ) in a small coastal town , olivia knew she had to work hard to change her circumstances . living so close to american royalty in new england with their old money that went back generations , it was envy and an insatiable want that would color lorena's childhood . she was acutely aware of two things very early on in her life : lack is the precursor to greed , and that she was destined for greatness . ━ before there was lola dupont , there was lorena : a restless child , but bewitching enough she could always draw a crowd long before she knew what the spotlight felt like . it was her mother's idea to put her in dance classes , and she'd take credit for that long after lola was well acquainted with what the spotlight felt like . it was dance that got her a scholarship to an all girl's preparatory school , and dance that would eventually get her out of connecticut . ━ ballet was her first love ; she flourished under the intensity of it , a perfect outlet for the unbridled energy churning within her . her mom latched onto that love , exploiting and shaping it , desperate to ascend to the status she so thought she deserved . it was her mom's idea to change her name . lorena hartley was just a small-town ballerina , but lola dupont could be a star . by the time she landed a spot at the american ballet theater, traces of her old life had slowly been extiguished . ━ the rewrites were harmless , kept vague enough to craft an air of mystery the public would hate to adore once lola's career took off . prep school in the states became boarding school in england or finishing school in switzerland . lola's fluency in french , picked up from her interest in old movies and one french-canadian classmate , became a by-product of a french nanny , or perhaps a distant french relative she'd spend summers with as a child . her absent father was a movie star, an army man, a mobster, or even tragically deceased. there was nothing concrete about lola or where she came from , nothing pinpointable about her except the undeniable talent she possessed . ━ new york city was good to lola . the world seemed so much bigger than she ever could have imagined. while her mother struggled to adjust to the fast pace and big names , lola thrived . she was preparing to audition for a chance to start an apprenticeship at the new york city ballet when she was scouted by a music video director . one video , one a-list client; that was all it took to launch her into stardom . lola retired her pointe shoes , her mom retired to connecticut , and things could only get better — or so she thought . ━ she had a good few years of notable fame . without her mother's iron fist lola was free to explore all the facets of dance she'd never been able to before . lyrical , contemporary , jazz , even burlesque — nothing was off the table . she was working with singers , teaching classes as a guest choreographer in trending dance studios , and even doing minor dance cameos in tv and film . she got herself into the occasional scandal now and then , mostly by speaking too candidly in interviews , or spending her newfound wealth on something the public deemed obscene , but it was never enough to shake her reputation . ━ it wasn't until she found out that her mother was being sued by multiple people from milford for fraud that anything changed . the life lola worked so hard to craft was threatening to be torn apart by the one person who'd helped her build it , brick by bleeding brick . being a part of the berry crew was more of an act of desperation than it was something lola thought long and hard about , and she's hoping it will be enough to mitigate the fallout of her mother's actions if they ever become public knowledge .
❛ ✧ ── 𝒑𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 + 𝒕𝒊𝒅𝒃𝒊𝒕𝒔 。
━ she's a bit of a black cat ; one moment she can be open and inviting and the next she's elusive and standoffish . in a parasocial sense it makes her an interesting person to want to follow , but as someone who has to live with her for the unforeseeable future , it could be polarizing . growing up within a competitive dance culture with a momager for a mother , lola never had many friends , so the ones she does manage to make are near and dear to her . to compensate for the lack of longterm , stable , connections in her life she got into the habit of short-lived , torrid relationships . ━ she's almost comically superstitious . before she dances she has all sorts of good luck rituals she'll swear to you work . giving people tarot readings is a newer hobby of lola's , and she's definitely no master . her readings range from surprisingly , maybe even touchingly insightful , to so far out of leftfield you'll swear she's fucking with you ( which she might be ) . ━ has deeply conflicting opinions about her mother , and it's the only topic that's ever really sore . on the flipside , she couldn't care less about the fact that she doesn't have a dad , and has laughed away many attempts the media has made to insinuate she might have daddy issues beacuse of it . mommy issues however ... snksndk she tends to fixate on older women figures in her life , not always in healthy ways . ━ dance has become a convoluted obsession more than it has a career for lola . it's to the point that she wouldn't know who she was if she wasn't dancing , and a career-ending injury would crumble her completely . because of this , she's a bit of a control freak when it comes to her body and health . she's also almost always dancing ; even now at the berry , she'll still find time to squeeze it in . if anyone ever wanted to learn how to dance , she's a surprisingly patient teacher . ━ very much marches to the beat of her own drum . because she can come across in so many different ways upon first impressions , lola learned to just do her own thing without much regard to how other people perceive her . she despises being underestimated or being spoken to condescendingly , and she desperately craves validation and success even if she's not upfront about it . ━ she's got a love for gothic literature , tchaikovsky's ballets , vintage leather jackets and anything metallic or sequined . she once hired a lawyer just to take down a subreddit dedicated to her feet because she's adamant her feet are the ugliest thing about her . she's entirely convinced if she encountered a wild animal one day it would sense a kindred spirit and not attack her . she almost got kicked out of the american ballet theater for giving herself the choppiest haircut to ever exist after receiving one slightly negative remark about her turnout . after living in new york city for so long , she's developed a minor phobia of driving and will come up with all sorts of excuses to live her life as a passenger princess .

Reflections on Art and Education: Shaping Social Change” with Jacqueline de Montaigne and Marcela Nacif
On a beautiful September morning, CreativeMornings Lisbon drew an impressive crowd to the stunning Jardim das Oliveiras at the Centre Cultural de Belem. Making the most of the Portuguese autumn sun, guests mingled in the garden set against the backdrop of the Tagus River and iconic Ponte 25 de Abril, one of the city’s most recognisable landmarks.
A Saturday morning edition didn’t deter the creatives who turned out for one of our biggest meetings, with delicious empanadas served alongside energy drinks by @SAVG and coffee by Lavazza to keep those attending nourished and refreshed before our talk began. As the presentation opened, we learned this month’s global theme, chosen by the Oklahoma chapter of CreativeMornings: Reflection.
The speakers in Lisbon would share their unique reflections on art, education and social change. The first speaker, Marcela of Brave Generation Academy, took us on a journey through her vision for education. She believes a change is necessary and that initiatives, creative thinking and technology are the way to deconstruct our concept of what “education” means.
Four years ago, Brave Generation Academy – an NGO set up to make education more effective and successful - created a hub, led by people who believed education needs to change. Instead of having a building with classrooms, they realised (thanks to technology), you could spread classrooms around the world. Instead of having just one teacher, it might be more helpful to have two: one who looks after the academic curriculum, while the other motivates the best version of the student to emerge. Brave Generation Academy created hubs around the world, with thousands of students in 9 different countries. Learners study online, through a synchronous programme. Brave Generation Academy allows education to be more effective and accessible to learners, and empowers learners who couldn’t access education before, to see it’s not that hard to make education accessible. “We realised we can democratise education. If you have internet access and the will to learn, you can.”
The idea, Marcela explained, was to not make profit, but to convert cashflow into scholarships so anyone who wanted to go could attend. And so, over 300 entry scholarships were created, alongside non-profit initiatives including a not-for-profit hub. The ethos of BGA centers the students. Their projects include a hub in a refugee camp in Kenya, a program for students from Gaza, and a refugee camp in Congo. For those who are fleeing war and trauma, underfunded education systems that offer little prospects are not uncommon. By teaching refugees digital skills, in a hub that fosters a sense of community while following an internationally recognised curriculum, Brave Generation Academy helps to empower learners to build their own path: taking control of the learning process at their own pace. Marcela then posed an important question: Without educated young people, who will rebuild countries that have been torn apart by war? Without them, perhaps no one. “It’s not that hard to change education, we just have to change our mindset.”
Next, we heard from the artist and activist Jacqueline de Montaigne, who has painted murals around the world: many of which are used in social initiatives. Jacqueline uses guilding in a public way - with a minimal amount of paint, reducing the eco footprint – to tell stories through symbolism. Her art brings natural and figurative elements to an urban context, to create a fascinating juxtaposition of (what we might think of as) opposing forces.
Although she grew up in a household of activists, her journey as one began upon the birth of her second son. There was no one in the hospital that could help to provide guidelines or evidence-based information about baby feeding. Through this experience Jacqueline became involved with social change at a policy level, to help change national guidelines and train national forces in how to feed minors in the event of a national emergency. Her activism focused upon the correct marketing and labelling of baby formula products, while her artistry has seen her paint murals to raise awareness about breastfeeding.
Jacqueline has also painted refugee camps with educational murals, which break through language barriers. Her work with murals began when she painted a small one at Lisbon’s Lx Factory, and she discovered she was hooked. She decided to use this medium as a platform for social good, to bring awareness to issues using non-invasive paste-ups that can be removed by sponging off afterwards. She was the first Portuguese woman to be ranked globally for her mural painting. However, during her presentation Jacqueline also brought our attention to the challenges faced by women who want to become full-time artists: less than 3% of artists can afford to live off their work, and in the global market, less than 2% of work is allocated to women. But she left us on a hopeful note, as her work has led her around the world, having special interactions with normal people who have become the muses of her murals. “Regardless of age, there’s nothing to stop you following your dreams. The impact we can have on other people’s lives is massive.” And with that, our CreativeMornings guests returned to the sunny Lisbon afternoon a little lighter.

Another important consideration when choosing an MBBS program abroad is MBBS recognition and accreditation. education degrees medical degrees from Bosnian universities are recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI), which allows Indian students to practice in India after obtaining a foreign medical degree (FMGE).
Bosnia is also a signatory to the Lisbon Recognition Convention, which ensures, that degrees from Bosnian universities are recognized in many countries around the world. This recognition opens up opportunities for graduates to continue their studies or apply for jobs in different countries, making the Bosnian MBBS degree globally portable.
Multicultural environment and student support
Studying medical studies in Bosnia offers more than an affordable education. The country is known for its multicultural society, which welcomes students from different backgrounds and nationalities. Fernando Pessoa: Office Worker, Occultist, Galaxy of Writers
By Benjamin Moser on July 13th, 2021
PESSOA A Biography By Richard Zenith
The emergence of Fernando Pessoa as one of the world’s great modern writers, one worthy of Richard Zenith’s monumental new biography, has been nearly a century in the making. When Pessoa died in 1935, his family found one of the most sensational literary treasures to come to light since Lavinia Dickinson discovered 40 notebooks in her dead sister Emily’s chest. In the kind of featureless trunk used to store blankets or winter coats were 25,000 pages of writings.
Some of these works were complete. Most were not. It was hard to know what to do with this legacy, or even what it was. Pessoa’s handwriting was notoriously bad, first of all. He wrote in both Portuguese and English, the product of a South African childhood. But the most mystifying thing was that he didn’t seem to be a single person. He was a whole galaxy of writers — heteronyms, as he called them, with entirely different personalities and different, often radically conflicting, views on poetry, style, nature, politics and the antique. If they were all the creations of the man named Fernando Pessoa, the variety of the dozens of heteronyms made it hard to say who Pessoa himself was.
When his prose masterpiece, “The Book of Disquiet,” was published in Portuguese — this didn’t happen until 1982 — the edition immediately, inevitably became controversial. Some questioned the editors’ arrangement of the hundreds of fragments that make up the uncategorizable book. Others tried to distinguish between those that were written by Bernardo Soares, the professed author of the later sections; those by Vicente Guedes, who began the work; and those by Pessoa. These were harder questions to answer than they seemed — because technically, of course, Soares, Guedes and Pessoa were the same person.
If much was inscrutable about Pessoa, one thing, as these scraps emerged, was not: He bore that indescribable something that only the greatest geniuses possess. His singular brilliance was all the more remarkable because nothing on the outside suggested it. At his death, he was a writer of strictly local renown who published a single book of his Portuguese poetry in his lifetime. He was a routine office worker who, after his return from Africa in 1905 — his stepfather was a consul in Durban — never again left Portugal, and indeed hardly ventured more than an hour outside Lisbon. Yet he turned out to be an entire world of bewildering richness, an eccentric master (or masters) who inevitably attracted biographers. They started rummaging soon after his death. The first biography appeared in 1950, already 700 pages long. Its author, João Gaspar Simões, wrote that when he met Pessoa for the first time, he “was struck by how his feet hardly seemed to touch the ground, as if he were suspended by a wire hooked to an invisible nail.”
If some figures are smudged by passing time, Pessoa has grown steadily sharper. Time was needed to bring him back down to the ground — to piece together a full picture from the contents of his trunk. Zenith, an American resident of Lisbon, brought to the task a depth of scholarship gained through more than 30 years of publishing, translating and promoting his subject’s work; Pessoa, who had few intimates in life, is lucky to have found this posthumous friend. Zenith’s book is long, though not much longer than the biography published 71 years ago, and if it includes facts that were already known as well as facts that have come to light, its real merits lie elsewhere.
The first might be regarding Pessoa’s ambition. In contrast to Emily Dickinson, who seems to have been genuinely indifferent to the survival of her work, Pessoa wanted to be read. He was nearly obsessed with this problem, constantly drawing up plans for publication, starting magazines (the most successful lasted two issues) for his own work, and even, in a catastrophic quest to become a publisher, squandering a handsome inheritance that would have freed him from years of paying rent. He was ambitious, sometimes to the point of grandiosity. In his first published critical essay, titled “The New Portuguese Poetry Sociologically Considered,” he announced the arrival of a Great Poet to surpass even Luís de Camões, Zenith writes: “He did not mention that this presumptive Great Poet was himself.”
The second attainment of the book is the homosexualization of Pessoa. It has long been obvious to gay readers that Pessoa was one of them. (How many straight men write long lachrymose poems about Hadrian and Antinous?) His orientation has often been hidden — for the usual reasons, but also because his relationships were platonic; Zenith tells us that he died a virgin. Another reason may be that the popular image of Pessoa, derived from a handful of scrupulously expressionless photographs, makes it tough to associate him with any kind of sexuality at all. Zenith brings a nuanced understanding to this question, and describes how the poet finally sublimated his erotic yearnings into a mystical chastity.
The early 20th century was pyretic with fascination for the occult, the paranormal, theosophy, Rosicrucianism, kabbalah, séances, mediums, astrology and dreams; if most of the productions that emerged from this movement now seem whimsical at best, Zenith shows how Pessoa transformed a trendy amateur interest in occultism into an enduring art. For him, the heteronyms were not so much invented as they were manifested — like the dearly departed in a crystal ball, or an ancient soul conjured from a Ouija board — poised somewhere between heaven and earth. Not quite real but not fake either, these creations have, instead, the heightened reality of literature.
The poet’s struggles with his sexuality, his inability to finish projects, his swings between grandiosity and depression, his splintered sense of self: All of this sounds awfully familiar to anyone who has studied alcoholism. So, of course, does Pessoa’s death at 47, as an old man, his body wasted by drink. Yet in a book filled with so much highly informed psychological speculation, Zenith mostly steers clear of this aspect. He calls Pessoa’s failure to publish “inertia,” for example. But Pessoa was anything but inert; he was alcoholic. Zenith’s avoidance of the question is, alas, all too common in contemporary biography. If the taboo surrounding homosexuality has been broken, the taboo surrounding addiction remains.
What remains, too, and what matters, is the work. Zenith describes it as “a sprawling yet increasingly unbuilt city, whose builder was so busy laying the foundations for new structures that almost nothing rose higher than one or two unfinished floors.” This is accurate. Unlike so many writers, who built a nicely furnished house or even a neighborhood, Pessoa really did build an entire city. Incomplete — hieratic — chaotic: but a city nonetheless. It was a city that needed a guide. Thanks to Zenith, it has one at last.
