MLP Redesigns/Rewrite Pt 2: Rarity
Rarity, despite all her dramatic flair, was never a mean girl or snob. She was born in Ponyville, a small village of mostly genuine ponies.
Rarity’s younger sister Sweetie Belle inherited more of her mother’s pink coloration, large eyes, and a boyish figure courtesy of her dad, while Rarity inherited her mom’s snout and her father’s grey hooves. Sweetie Belle sometimes wanted to hide some of her features with clothes, but her big sis knew that wouldn’t be right.
Being very into fashion and what would make a good model in hypothetical fashion shows, Rarity could recognize that Sweetie will grow up to be model/movie star material with her very unique features. But she won’t say so until Sweetie is old enough not to get a big head over it. There are other ways to combat bullying.
Because she was a tailor by craft, Rarity always kept the long fluff on her front hooves buzzed down. After all, it wasn’t like she used her magic for everything.
Fluttershy wasn’t the best at self care, but Rarity was a self care expert that took her under her wing when she needed help the most. In the Starlight cult saga, she helped prevent Fluttershy’s illness from spreading as best she could. But it could only buy them a few days with her magic stolen and a lack of supplies. It did show some of the cult members that Starlight was lying about Equestria being an unsanitary hovel in need of their benevolent invasion.
Rarity wanted to experiment with fashion more, but like many would be fashion designers with small businesses, she was mostly relegated to tailoring. But she was very good at sniffing out rare gemstones in Diamond Dog territory, a skill she used whenever funds were low or she wanted to attract tourists and holiday shoppers.
Being a small town pony and all round generous, genuine person, Rarity was an easy target for toxic competition in Manehattan. But luckily she was already great friends with the rest of the Mane 6 by the time that situation arose, and she attracted the toxic party’s under appreciated “friend” Coco Pommel.
When the Mane 6 got their elemental power boost dealing with Starlight Glimmer, each member got a transformation that suited them. Twilight of course, got a higher level Alicorn transformation resembling that of Celestia and Luna. But the other Mane 6 didn’t loose out.
Rarity gained a magic boost that allowed her to create holograms in any combination of colors, a game changer for brainstorming and presenting ideas to clients. It also gave her more endurance, meaning she could use her magic without needing as many breaks.
She was gifted with durable crystal hooves, but only on her front legs. That wasn’t an issue though; in hard manual labor like farming and mining, Applejack preferred to use her back legs, while Rarity preferred to use her front. It also left her without the need to shave back the fur that used to grow over those hooves.
The power transformation also made Rarity’s hair multicolored, a gift that she appreciated as a new look. Something to style and challenge herself to design new outfits around. She found that her new look was well received in the fashion circles she had entered with the Manehattan shop.
Instead of the cutie mark map in Twilights ugly crystal thing [it does not exist in this timeline], each of the post-transformation Mane 6 had a specific duty in Equestria that played to their strengths.
Some of the Diamond dog factions were friendly to ponies, while others would gladly kidnap them and other species for slave labor, like they tried to do to Rarity years prior. Thankfully for her, those three were less brutal and intelligent than some of the other hostile factions.
For years ponies, donkeys, and griffins went missing in the mountains, having been taken by the worst Diamond dog factions. They were divided up in ways that kept anyone from knowing how many slaves there were, from being able to rebel. So they had lost hope. And less and less species ventured into mines and mountains because of it.
Celestia and the good dog factions tried to gather evidence of the wrongdoings and police where they could, but the enemy was cunning and good at hiding their crimes. It was a situation where the friendly Diamond Dogs didn’t have the strength or numbers to overthrow their aggressive neighbors, and Celestia didn’t have enough jurisdiction to send in troops.
The Elements of Harmony designated Rarity to handle the problem, and after training with her new powers, she took the challenge on.
She could use her newfound holograms to project battle plans, and trick hostile diamond dogs with illusions. Often she’d let herself get captured to infiltrate enemy lines. Her magic endurance let her make stronger shields and break the slave’s bonds while on these rescue missions in the heavily fortified Diamond Dog bases.
Within a few years she, former mining slaves, and the friendly factions of dogs successfully took down each of the hostile factions. They sabotaged the mines and fortresses as the slaves were freed, and the growing pool of witnesses gave the friendly factions enough proof to call in troops from Canterlot.
The fashion business and gem loot taken from the rescue missions were enough to help the victims recover medically and emotionally. Families were brought back together, rock ponies like the Pies started letting colored pelts and hair come back into their gene pool, and mining became less rare and expensive.
Beyond fashion, new inventions, potions, and spells utilizing gems were discovered, and Equestria entered an age where mining was easier and safer to do.
