August 21st is Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day and, as an author, I just want to say how much I appreciate every encouraging and kindly meant comment I get. People who leave detailed comment essays—you're the best. People who pick a line to quote back—you put such a smile on my face. People who share how a chapter made you feel—you're amazing. And people who leave a string of emojis—you rock 🤘🥰😍
I curl up like a happy dragon around each and every comment I get.
Thanks to all the kind and wonderful commenters out there helping to keep fandom a community rather than another marketplace 💛

I find it funny how terrified and in denial BT shippers are that we pretty much can guess Eddie's coming out story is coming. But also what word do I want to use that they would rather keep Eddie straight, so less representation so Buck stays with Tommy...
No but that's the flip that fascinates me the most actually. As someone who does believe Eddie was attracted to Shannon, so I don't think the dude is strictly gay, I have been fighting for my life for years. Eddie being gay is the most common hc and for years some people pushed for it only so that he would only ever have loved Buck, which is *gestures vaguely*. And I think it's extremely hurtful to suddenly expect Eddie to be a stereotype so he can be valid when Eddie is very much queercoded. At this point I genuinely don't care what label they give him, I just want him out of the closet, but either way we are talking about a character who had literal panic attacks at the idea of life with a woman and who was given an erectile dysfunction plot just for shits and giggles. That man screams comphet so loud it's reaching ridiculous levels. And now he needs to stay locked in his closet and die alone because everyone knows that the second Eddie comes out, Buck is dropping everything for a chance with him and they don't want Tommy to leave. And the way that Buck's bisexuality is only valid for these people if Buck is dating Tommy specifically too, like ?????? Some of them don't want representation, they want two white guys to fuck, because if they wanted rep they would want the queer story Eddie could be. And the game changer queer love story buddie could be. But somehow I'm just weird about queer relationships and can't understand queer men with my tiny woman brain. Go figure.
#if bt is that solid why would eddie being queer change anything?#but yeah#life in fandom#anti bucktommy#911#i really need a tag for asks#anon 😌

francienyc explaining songfic:
Conceptually, it's a bit like a choral ode in Ancient Greek tragedy. Plot of fic gets interrupted by the song lyrics written out, which are not part of the story but thematically related. The execution was not always on par with Greek tragedy.

I found my old copies of the Godchild manga last night.
It was a small fandom then, it's an even smaller fandom now, but by heaven I'm still gonna write fic for it!!

Sometimes the most bewildering part of the ace fannish experience is seeing half the timeline thirsting over a blorbo, not remotely seeing the appeal even with aesthetic attraction in play, then shrugging like "okay, you allos have fun." Truly a divide that can never be crossed.

I love tumblr and discord because only there, can you be co-writing a 🔥 sex scene for a shared fandom with a mutual and then have to stop abruptly because “One of my faves was cancelled” and you immediately switch gears to deal with that loss together.
@simplymakkari I <3 you

I just caught a glimpse of a weyler fanart on here, but I got distracted and it’s not there anymore.
I know I’ll only be able to see it next in the year 2025, late September afternoon when nothing makes sense any more than it did, but it suddenly throws me back into another obsessive cycle and the clawed embrace of fanfiction is waiting for my baited breath. It’s meant to come.

Tbf, if any of my friends did this I would happily read that tiny snippet then encourage them, wave pom-poms, etc. Share the brainrot, always.
the writer’s urge to ask your friends “do you wanna see a little somethin’ i’ve been working on?” when the little somethin’ you’ve been working on is 800 words and ends in the middle of a sentence

Sometimes you simply want the exact fic you're in the mood for to exist. Poof. I want it to just appear before me.

You know that person on AO3 you really like? They are insecure.
Maybe they are worried about the thing they posted, about whether it's as good as they wanted it to be or whether anyone would like it. Maybe they wonder if someone out there really got it, or if anyone loves the same stuff about the thing/character/fandom that they do.
Maybe they posted their work to spread some joy to others or hopefully receive some themselves. Maybe they did it because they were having a shitty day or week or life and were hoping that creating and sharing that thing would improve their own day or someone else's.
Maybe creating is hard for them. Maybe creating comes to them as easily as breathing. Either way, they stepped out of that box of insecurity to share their thing with you.
So do them a favor and let them know you saw it and enjoyed it. Hit the kudos button or, better yet, leave a comment. It doesn't have to be a lot of words. It definitely doesn't have to critique their work or complain that you don't like the way they did it.
But if someone shared a thing they made with you and it brought a little positivity to your life, tell them.

It fascinates me how we managed to go from "Snape is soooo sexy!!" to "if you think bad characters are interesting then you're an immoral person and probably a criminal" in half a generation (if that).

Sure, AO3 was just handed down from on high. Rather than created with love and sweat and time and a lot of coding and a deep desire not to be dictated to by corporations and people shrieking "what about the children?" and censorship and bullies.
I know, I know, it's just a joke. But some people believe the joke.

There are two modes of thinking after one has created A Thing:
I'm really proud of this, it's awesome
This is complete rubbish, why did I bother
The worst part is they are completely capable of happening within the same five minute time span.

an interaction im very tired of in online autism spaces. aka when you don’t have a special interest / when your special interest isn’t [character] or [fandom]
EDIT: if you’re confused on this post look at this version: https://www.tumblr.com/dinklebat/767829405172219904/some-of-you-did-not-understand-this-post-hope?source=share
also if you want to see column posts just check #column posting on my blog
EDIT 2: I turned reblogs off because you guys are literally acting like blue and I’m done.
#sorry I’ve only been hyper fixated on fandom a few time my life#and never as a special interest#this isn’t made to put down people with fandom as a special interest or hyper fixation. it’s just sometimes autism support groups are#far too focused on it than I’d like#actually autistic#autism#personal vent#dink’s stupid comics

🦋 and 🍭!
🦋what are you most insecure about when you post a fic?
Most of my insecurities around posting involve worries about not getting much response. My writing style tends to be more implicit and indirect, so I worry about the story not landing emotionally and, in general, what I'm trying to convey not getting through to readers.
Over the years, I’ve become more selective about what I post compared to how much I write. But I believe passionately in the gift economy of fandom and, given how much joy fanworks have given me, I love being able to contribute back. I try to benchmark out some reasonable expectations on the amount of response for the fandom/pairing/genre/rating/trope and to appreciate the people who do read, kudo and are kind enough to share their comments. And leave it at that.

🍭why did you start writing?
I got back into writing near the end of college after quite a long break. I was well into the process of losing the fight between the field I thought I wanted to go into and becoming a lit major. Applying the theories and techniques I was learning to recognize and analyze was another way that my uncontrollable enthusiasm was running away from me. Good times :) Reader response theory has had a particularly lasting impact on my writing along with an oddball range of other influences that have stuck long after I graduated.

I've never seen AtLA and I still know this one well enough to giggle. Thank you fandom osmosis.
Adult life tip.
Do not buy a cabbage unless you have one of the following:
1. A recipe that uses a whole cabbage
2. 200 recipes that use some cabbage
3. A desire to waste an entire half cabbage
