More animal facts for MerMay! This time the chapter is all about the confirmed Species from Sku's Leviathantale. I found a post stating the some of the species.
Killer -Bullshark, Dust- Oceanic White Tip, Horror- Great White Shark, Cross- Thrasher, Dream- Goldfish/Koi, Nightmare - Octopus/Kraken, Reaper- Killer Whale/Ghost Leviathan, Error Moray Eel/Abaia , Ink- Shapeshifts into all Squids, Geno - leopard seal, Blue - Harbor seal
The chapter is long, but here's a couple of my favorite facts.
*
--- Squid Fossils:
Soft creature fossils are rare. But the octopus, and other similar creatures have fossils, some are soft outline fossils, or their hard parts like hooks and beaks.
But even with that in mind there are no fossils of true Squids. In 2017 a study was done on happens after death on octopus and squids. The squids just "fell apart." The pH after death made it impossible for becoming fossils.
**Source a YouTube video from PBS Eons in June 2021.
Leopard seal
--- leopard seals sing under water. Scientists are not certain if the songs are for mating rituals or not. But it would make sense because leopard seals are solitary animals.

Hello
I have been hooked on the leviathantale content lately and…
I have been looking through fishes and other sea creatures for a project and…
I’m praying someone is a puffer fish or a sea horse of some kind oh I’m praying
Have a great day
Unfortunately no puffer fish or seahorses (yet) but you’re more than welcome to change up species or have your own interpretations!! :D

So. Had an idea since I never really saw anything on a Leviathantale Fresh. So I basically created an idea and information about a MerFresh species. Yes species, as in multiple. There is the Original Alpha MerFresh and offspring. But I just go into the species themselves with this. Enjoy my wacky idea!
MerFreshes, at least known to the current Leviathantale, are unique to their land dwelling cousins of other Multiverses. For one, instead of a tentacle parasite, merparasites take the form of a starfish species instead to better blend in underwater and fool potential hosts into thinking they are harmless to them. Despite starfish themselves unable to survive in freshwater for short periods of time, merparasites have adapted to handle it due to the magic in their systems. It also depends on their merforms of the host they adapted to if they can survive longer than normal. That will be explained below.
Like their parasitic cousins, MerFreshs only last as long as the host SOUL does before it needs to move on to a new one, but unlike them, they can last double to triple the time that landdwelling ones can due to their nature and limited supply of hosts over a greater expanse of area. Landdwelling hosts are more in supply and a MerFresh will take one if desperate and close enough, but they prefer having a merhost over it due to the first stage of adaptation being easier on the body.
When a merparasite needs a new host it will seek it out and climb into the eye of the host and latch onto the SOUL. From here is where the landdwelling parasite and merparasite differs.
Although the body of a merparasite is a starfish, its magic is more in relation to a mind controlling barnacle that attaches itself to crabs and controls them for food and protection. So once latched to the SOUL, it will use the remaining magic in it's form to connect to the SOUL and start a transformation process to change the host from whatever species of mer it was before to a crab species that it relates to. The species will always remain the same no matter the host. It can also transform landdwellers into crab mers, but it takes more magical energy to do so, hence the preference for already mer hosts.
After the process is completed, it will binge on any food it can get its hands and claws on for a week or two until their magic levels are restored. This allows it to add to the magical energy in the SOUL that they feed slowly off of and restore it over a period of time till magic levels are back to normal. Merparasites consume the SOUL essence itself rather than chunks of the SOUL so it can be restored over time. The longer one spends in the host's body, the more SOUL essence it will need to keep living until it is time to begin the process anew.
MerFreshes will experience heats like normal mers, but to actually reproduce takes more steps. For one, MerFreshes needs a properly marked mate or mates. They will form strong attachments to the one they want to mate with and bond on an instinctual level. It is hard to break such a bond, and can usually end up with the MerFresh letting themselves dust with the host at the end of its lifespan.
They will lay eggs inside their mate or allow their mate to give the magic needed for them to carry depending on their preference. Once they eggs are laid, they are carried on their back until they hatch. A MerFresh and a Mer mate can have merparasites already in growing merhosts with their crab forms already chosen. It is rare that one would be born without an already made host. These babies will grow with the same body until adulthood where they must seek out a new host and start their own cycles. A baby merparasite without a host usually does not survive unless a host is found and given magic to support the transformation process since baby merparasites would not have the energy to survive it otherwise.
A MerFresh will usually have at least three surviving clutches in a lifetime. The older the merparasite gets, the harder it is for them to reproduce. If they outlive their chosen mate/s they usually decide to not switch hosts and join them in death. This is very common for the species. It is rare for a MerFresh to find another mate after the death of their current one/s.
Alpha MerFresh is the rarity that they form bonds to mates, have clutches, and break off the bond and leave them behind without much care. Their goal is to spread as many of their offspring they can in the ocean and watch them survive. They also don't care what mate they have as long as they are willing and sometimes mate with other MerFreshes only to leave them broken after laying eggs. The broken MerFresh will usually keep going until the eggs hatch and the babies can defend themselves and leave to go dust somewhere, unable to continue on.
Alpha MerFresh is the only one that can also go leviathan. But it takes a lot of energy out of them and they usually need to seek a new host after a few prolonged uses due to needing to up their intake of SOUL essence. Their offspring do not have this ability to do this. At least as far as anyone is aware of.

Hey just a random thought, I was thinking about this for a while now and someone in the past mentioned it so its nice to know I'm not the only one that thought about it at some point. This will be a bit scattered? so bear with me pls: Soo its about Skeleton Monsters and Human skeletons, I think I came up with a little theory on why they can be so their and how bazar a monster skeleton bone structure can be in different worlds.. so here is a thought, you know how humans have flesh and stuff to cover up the bone and such, skeletons monsters don't have flesh in the human sense so their bones can be morphed into what ever they need at that period or accommodate the story setting their in. Without the need to accommodate organs or flesh, their bodies can adapt quicker seeing as they got magic mixed in as well. i mean in many aus and even the original game itself, the skeletons have physical features like facial features such as smiles, EYELIDS, they can move their cheek bones etc and make expressions unlike human skulls and exclusively in aus they also have ecto flesh (mimicking human flesh in a way) and in other cases can mimic other things like a fish tails, shark tails (Leviathantale) , dragon bodies, bat wings with flesh (Tipping the Scales and Winged Multiverse) etc Even in your style the arms of characters are thick bones which resemble a more human outline when in clothes even though they are just bare bone. Basically what I'm saying is I think creators unknowingly or knowingly gave undertale au (including the game itself) skeletons another ability, the ability to mimic organic features (haven't seen a skeleton mixed with an object yet so cant say "inorganic" features yet lol) :V (Just my personal headcanon I guess XD) Huh.. Undertale skeletons are on a whole different level ( •_•)
YES! ★ Thank you for articulating this!! (*’∀’人)
I do agree with this theory that skelemonsters are not just skeletons pulled out of humans but a separate species, able to adaptヽ(´▽`) It's about wider bones, "muscles", liquid like you said, etc. ☆
UPD:
OH that's a really good point, Blue, thank you! *^*

Matriarch [Titan!****]
The creature who carries the weight of its hive among its back and the intelligence of a regal queen.
-Design inspired by: Xenomorph Queen, Lovecraftian Creatures
-Stands for/Fills roll: Overseer
-Titan Consciousness: Only one intelligent enough to be aware of its own self and understand the others. Can communicate with the other titans and does not cause harm to them unless necessary.
Oh, boy people here we go, Titan #6 is done and released! Coming with it is the full release of the Hatchling AU story and characters! I have been swamped with work on this creature and the stuff it brings to the table for the entirety of winter break. She was the hardest to design and overall build character for, but I love her.
I'm sure you've noticed that it isn't actually stated who Matriarch is, and that's because it's a secret! Hehehe have fun guessing!
Moving on, the reason for Matriarch's elaborate back is because she literally carries a hive of her species on her back. Drones and Scouts nest inside the tubes and attack on command (manly human/monster-made aircraft and weaponry). The blue sacs on her back and stomach produce a nutrient fluid through pores that the colony feeds on.
In terms of size- Matriarch is colossal. I mean compared to the other titans, she's huge. Celestial comes up to her shoulders.
[Inspired by @skumhuu’s LeviathanTale AU and @saurexhas’s fic “Daemons”]

If you were to make Sun and Moon (eclipsetale) into mers, what kind of creature would base them off of? Just curious if they'd be different from their counterparts.
oh!!
Sun is a lionfish, and Moon is a black goldfish! Moon’s big form is a monstrous mixture between a goldfish and an octo shadow creature. They aren’t in the same au as leviathantale, and they’d be the only two leviathans in the entire world to keep it easy on me.
(I’m tempted to change Sun to a flying fish so I might actually draw him one day w/o dying lol but idk I like him being an invasive venomous species)

Are there humans in levianthantale? or are they just a myth/what monsters are to us?
There are!
Humans are the majority in leviathantale :D Currently there's an ongoing civil struggle to get Monsterkind better rights. Mers are actually the myths here. They currently aren't officially recognized as a separate species from Monsterkind, or even sentient.
Since they were never underground, world governments have carefully ignored Merkind outside their uses on the black market. Any sightings have been brushed off as a Monster. There are many poachers out to snatch them up to sell them off to the highest bidder. (Capturing them alive is the goal, since mers turn to sea foam when they die)
There are studies/classes, as well as protestors fighting to get Merkind officially recognized and protected.
Side note: Red and Edge are both Ocean ranger/marine biologists (specializing in the protection of merkind and defending them against poachers) They aren't personally invested in Mers actually being sentient, but the pay is good and they can kick ass w/o raising their LV. (Totally not because they have a soft spot for people struggling and a hatred for bullies, totally not)

Hi , where can I find levathiantale's comic ?!
Also , how should we figure out what kind of species fit a character ?!
Leviathantale mainly came from twitter threads combined with art, so finding the story/comic is a bit messy atm! It's a very community based au
Do you mean self inserts? Sonas? Ocs? Au characters? :O Besides canon ones that I've already decided personally, all of those are up to your own preference :D Even the 'canon' can be adjusted to have fun with. (If you're curious on what my interpretation is, just ask! I'll only do au characters tho)

MerMay is right around the corner. I decided to participate in my own way. I'll try to use the prompts but I'll probably be way off. I want to draw and write oneshots, about Undertale Mermaids/ LeviathanTale.
I also want to share ocean/animal facts that I think are good world building for Mermaids/LeviathanTale.
-------------------- SHARKS-----------
1) About 60% of the shark species give birth to live young. This is called viviparity. Mako sharks, bull sharks, lemon sharks, and blue sharks are a few examples of sharks that are born live.
Baby sharks are called pups.
2) Shark eggs are sometimes referred to as mermaid's purses, and occasionally as Devil's purses. The egg usually houses one embryo, but in some species there are multiple embryos per egg case.
Shark species, oviparous (egg-laying) include:
Bamboo sharks.
Wobbegong sharks.
Carpet sharks.
Horn (bullhead) sharks.
Swell sharks.
Many catsharks.
3) When you flip a shark upside down they go into a trance-like state called tonic immobility.
4) A group of sharks can be called a few different terms. School, shiver, or frenzy. In some cases, the term “herd” may also be used. A shiver is typically made up of sharks that are the same species, while a school can include different kinds of sharks.
More research and observation needs to be done, but it appears that there is no hierarchy in the Shiver. Both male and female sharks will make up a Shiver. The younger sharks will tend to be in the center, this appears to provide protection for the young.
"A group of baby sharks is referred to as a “wriggle” or a “nursery”. "
5) Fun facts about The Origin of the Shark names
* Sharks used to be called "Sea Dogs." This was for a couple of reasons. Such as their resemblance to dogs, and hunting.
"The earliest example of a shark-like animal being named in such a manner came when English writer Richard Hakluyt referred to a sea dog as a “sharke” in 1599."
Some of the facts I found on this site.

More world building fun facts about sea life for MerMay!
This time it's Seals, Sea Lions and Selkies. I'm including Selkies, even though they are mythical, because I like them and also because they are in Leviathantale.
*****************
----- _______Selkies_____ --------
A quote from Wikipedia:
In Celtic and Norse mythology, selkies (also spelled silkies, sylkies, selchies) or selkie folk (Scots: selkie fowk) meaning 'seal folk'[a]
1) There are both Male and Female Selkies. Both are said to be gorgeous, an unearthly beauty.
* Female Selkies are more often featured. More often tragic. Due to the nature of their magic/nature, they are often forced to become brides to human men.
* Male Selkies on the other hand, appear to be more often the "one night stand" to lonely human women. Although there is potential for them to become forced husbands.
2) Human/Selkie Offspring
* It is thought that the myth of the Selkies was used to explain why some people were born with webbed hands and feet. Called "selkiepaws".
* In more modern stories/artwork it is common for Selkie children to be as beautiful as the Selkie parent. Often with dark eyes and hair.
***** This part is from memory,*****
But I could of sworn that the children would be gifted swimmers and great fishermen... But for the life of me, I can't find a good source for that, so call that some flavor text.
3) What are Selkies?
*** This is debated, some think their origins are Fallen Angels, humans that came to an "unfortunate end", and some debate that Selkies are fairies or Fae.
* Selkies are shapeshifters. They live their lives as seals for the most part, but can turn into a human form when they shed their seal skin.
* In some artwork/adaptations the skin can look like a skinned seal, or it can look like clothing, such as a cloak or a hoodie.
4) The Selkies Skin
* The skin allows the Selkie to transform from Seal to Human
* If a person steals a Selkie's skin, they can force the Selkie to marry them.
* If a Selkie gets their skin back, they'll be drawn back to the sea. Even if they love their spouse, and even if they have children... The Selkie will go back to the sea.
* I have a vague memory, I can't find if a Selkie never returns to the spouse, or if it's a set time like seven or ten years or so.
5) Species of Seal?
*Since Selkies are mythical creatures, it's difficult to have a solid species for the seal. It would be similar to pinning down the species of wolf for a werewolf. But there are some seals I think fit the bill, location wise
* There are two species of seals that are native to Irish waters: the Grey Seal (Halichoerus grypus) and the Harbour (or Common) Seal (Phoca vitulina).
* But in modern/worldwide/just for fun, there are lots of seal species that would be fun to have has a Selkie base.
-----------_____ Seals and Sea Lions______-----------
1) Seals and Sea Lions and Walrus are pinnipeds, a group of Marine mammals. Pinniped means fin or flipper-footed in Latin. Seals and and all Pinnipeds are semi aquatic mammals... Try to get that one song about secret agent animals out of your head.
2) Most Pinnipeds will spend most of their time in the water, sometimes they will even sleep in the ocean. Like most marine mammals, they can sleep in water by turning off parts of their brain, so they are alert enough to gauge when to wake up and breathe.
3) In general, Seals and Sea Lions will go to land for a few reasons. Breeding, raising their pups, sleeping and warming up in the sun.
4) Baby Seals and Sea Lions babies are called pups.
* The season when pups are born is called "Pupping season."
* Seal mothers and their pups will gather together for safety. The mother/pup group/area is called a rookery.
* Seal mothers nurse their pups for around a month or so, depending on the species. They'll nurse until the milk supply runs out. So once that is done, the pup needs to be independent.
* PSA if you see a pup in the wild, leave it alone, because they are living off the milk from its mother, and then hunt for itself. It wastes precious energy fleeing from humans and dogs. The pups are still learning how to hunt. Also lots of countries have laws to protect marine mammals breeding areas.
5) Main differences between Seals and Sea Lions
Sea lions tend to bark loudly, they are better at 'walking' on land using their large flippers and have visible ear flaps. Sea Lions are much more social. Sea Lions eat with just their mouths, they don't use their flippers to hold food. The foreflippers are not covered in fur, this aids them in swimming fast. Tend to be a solid color.
Seals have small flippers, wriggle on their bellies on land, and lack visible ear flaps. Seals tend to be more solitary. Seals use their foreflippers to hold their food while eating. The foreflippers are covered in fur and have sharp claws, this helps them in holding their food. Seals can have spots or ring patterns in their fur.
______________________________________

Extra: Story potentials. I might explore these ideas myself, but please feel free to explore them yourselves! I'd love to see the art/read the stories!
*** Fallen angel Geno Selkie...***
- Reaper, doesn't matter what version, "Hey, did it hurt?"
"Did what hurt?" Geno asks, confused and irritated.
"When you fell from heaven." Reaper says in a flirty manner.
"Who told you?" Suddenly transforms into a traditional scary angel type with a thousand eyes and wings. "That I, Genocide, was a fallen angel!"
"Chill out Geno! Reaper was trying to flirt!" Blue tells Geno.
Reaper has a fear boner.
***** An AU where Geno was part of an aquatic monster Underground.****
The Undertale's story plays out, but in an underwater/underwater cave instead. Geno is a Selkie. He gets stuck in the save screen. Is not affected by Reaper's death touch. Reaper gets a hold of Geno's skin and they become married. Geno gets his skin back much later after having Goth. But since Geno's home AU is gone it gets corrupted and transforms Geno into Error. Not only is the Selkie nature of returning home working against him, but the corruption makes him forget about his previous life and family.

Manatee Facts for MerMay! The link is to my AO3 account collection of ocean animal facts. Here's one of my favorite facts.
2) Manatees love nuclear power plants.
* For decades, Manatees have gathered around the warm waters near power plants to escape the chill of winter.
* It has helped their numbers recover from an endangered species, to a threatened species.
* Now the problem is now Florida, a main habit for Manatees, is closing down many of its power plants. There is a growing debate on how to wean the Manatees off of their favorite winter spots.
_______________
Story ideas:
I have not found reference for Toriel in Leviathantale, I personally think she would be an awesome Manatee Mermaid!
- Her fire magic would reflect well from Manatees love of warm waters. I find it funny that Manatees like waters warmed up by nuclear plants.
- They typically have a gentle nature.
- Toriel's main threat are the human children.
* I'm cheating with this but Purple laver, is a purple seaweed, that would make for awesome clothing for Toriel. The only reason I'm saying that, is because Manatees love warm waters, and Purple laver are found on rocky shores. But hey, possible design choices.

Heck yeah going in with some cream vs Dreammare mermaid styleee
(๑・̑◡・̑๑)♪
That's right! <3
Most likely, Nightmare just doesn't allow multi-species relations and relations in the gang as well (or is there something more under his control? (゚ω゚))
While Killer, as his right hand, fulfills his requirements and keeps order out of his reach (the headcanon is, in his large form, Nightmare can't move much and far, so is almost always in the gorge, where Dream lured the pirates to on his brother's orders).
Guess Killer does this not only because he's "obliged" to Nightmare, but also for his own purposes, in hopes to get more. Maybe he's also into Dream but refrains because of the boss — and here some newcomer comes and is about to 1) take away his potential partner; 2) make Nightmare angry, and Killer who "failed the easiest task" will be the one to blame. >:(
XD
I don't think Dream has a close relationship with the sharks in the first place: he does his job against his will and helps them with hunting, in exchange they guarantee him protection.
It so happened that one of them was a little over his authority, and this frightened Dream a little. Perhaps such a game was Dream's test, but Cross regarded it very differently and things went too far for both of them... x)
UPD:
It's Mermay! <3 (almost over ;3;)
This one is referred to LeviathanTale AU by skumhuu (UTMV character as sea creatures *w*)
