Io ho fatto praticamente tutto il tempo la trottola, sono stato a San Francisco una settimana, poi una serie di eventi… insomma mai stare fermo!　» 　　ᴘᴇʏᴛᴏɴ ᴠɪʀɢɪɴɪᴀ　«　E immagino anche che tutto sia stato pianificato nei minimi dettagli. Dimmi tutto.　» 　　ʟᴇᴏɴᴀʀᴅ　«　Io penso che i cambiamenti stimolino ad avere reazioni, in qualche modo ad andare avanti, nel bene o nel male… Ad ogni modo non so se conosci Aerin Beauty, è una linea di profumi ed essenze creata da una ex travel blogger, quindi basandosi sui profumi dei luoghi. Creeremo la nostra campagna invernale e natalizia con lei. Ovviamente è un'anteprima assoluta, al momento stiamo procedendo ad alcuni accordi commerciali e test… Ed insomma ci sarà un evento vorrei tanto che ti occupassi tu dell'allestimento.　» 　　ᴘᴇʏᴛᴏɴ ᴠɪʀɢɪɴɪᴀ　«　Oddio, dici davvero? Si abbiamo tempo, considera che l'evento dovrebbe essere tra fine ottobre ed inizio novembre, sarà sicuramente a New York perché è la pietra miliare della nostra azienda.　» 　　ᴘᴇʏᴛᴏɴ ᴠɪʀɢɪɴɪᴀ　«　New York ha possibilità di sfruttare ogni minimo dettaglio, e sono davvero onorata che tu voglia affidarmi un compito così sfidante. Leap Year traditions: marriages & mayors

You may be familiar with the Irish tradition of women being allowed to propose to men on February 29. The legend is that Saint Brigid and Saint Patrick agreed to allow unmarried women to pop the question once every four years. Over the centuries the tradition spread and grew to include consequences if a man said no to a Leap Day proposal–mostly in the form of buying gifts for the asker to make up for his refusal.

Unfortunately, this tradition took on a distinctly misogynistic flavor, as exemplified by the Leap Day postcards in the Newberry Digital Collections. These cards from the early 20th century show caricatures of “undesirable” women determined to use the Leap Day tradition in order to bully, trick, or even physically threaten a man into marriage.

Three towns in Illinois took it one step further, swearing in women as members of the town government and police force for the day with a satirical goal: to arrest and fine unmarried men. According to a Life magazine feature in 1948, Leap Year cops would jokingly “nab” bachelors and demand payments such as a “fine of $10, two slips, two pairs of nylons and one drink for the cop.”

Similar legal quirks seem to apply in the Leap Year postcards. Hopeful brides appear to have free access to all manner of weapons and are not bound by such laws as the speed limit. The postcards, of course, are villainizing them for their creative strategies. God forbid women have hobbies.
