This is a belt bag that I very recently made! Until now, I had been struggling with sewing a belt bag that I really liked. Finally I saw a photo of a belt bag made of four panels. It was made of felt, but I wanted to try and see if I could make one out of leather. I drafted my own pattern, and to my surprise it worked out extremely well! What I didn't expect is the bottom forming a flat square, making it capable of standing up on its own! A very happy accident to be sure! the flower detail is handpainted to look like a Kioko Snowflake Morning Glory flower, with a painted wooden button and a glass gem colored with alcohol ink! The shark tail keychain was something I made long time ago, and thought it might look interesting attached to the bag. The white cord is hand braided, and I just slipped on metal tube beads to make them look fancier. I'm thinking of making more and selling some, so if anyone would like a notification of when I post any, please let me know!

🇬🇧 It was the year 2022 when a few mates approached me during the @efeyl_rev event to ask for a very special petition: they wanted to gift their friend @piliverso a little purse with a phoenix decorating the lid between a group of people. And here you have the result! This design from @libertiniarts was perfect, and I enjoyed so much the process of carving and painting it. It was a year and a half since it flew to its new nest, but I hope it has lived a lot of adventures already, and still keep living a lot more. Thanks so much guys for your trust and patience!

Y he aquí el resultado! Este diseño de @libertiniarts era perfecto, y disfruté muchísimo labrándolo y pintándolo. Another belt bag for Nott completed! This one is going to be used to hide a phone while my wife is cosplaying as Nott, and I'm really satisfied with the way it matches the little button pouch I made. She is going to have so so many things on her belts lmao

This was definitely my most complex leatherworking project yet! I'm also considering making some "how to" leatherworking for cosplay guides so please let me know if there is anything that you'd find useful!

Some additional process notes:

This bag is made with a 2-3 oz vintage bomber chrome tanned leather and an 8-9 oz vegtan bridle leather. Ideally, I would have used a 5-6 oz leather for the structural part but I needed the heavier leather for belts and couldn't afford to get yet another hide. This totally worked though!

I really like how the internal seams turned out on the thinner leather section but man was it tricky to actually figure out how to hold and do properly.

I added a secondary pocket to the original design by cutting out a second front section and I am so glad that worked out and is functional. It'll be the perfect little pocket for artist alley stickers!

If I wasn't doing this project for cosplay, I might have dyed the edges before burnishing them but I think the lighter edges lend it a more worn in feel and my wife liked it better this way and whatever she wants she can have.

I cannot even begin to explain how much I recommend getting a little disc of grippy material if you are going to sew thick leather together. They are apparently called "Needle Pullers" and they make my little fingers not want to die and make getting the needle through thicker leather SO much easier. I buy the dritz ones, I think they are made of silicon or something???

Another update on the leather bag i just finished. Wanted to share what it looks like actually being worn (ignore the outfit on my dress form I was playing with outfit stuff lol) but yeah here it is. I want to make a different one that's horizontal instead of vertical like this one but I need to fix my laser engraver before I start working on it because I want to add some fun art to it so for now this is where I'll be leaving the leather work for a little while.
