What is the Marisverse?
Maris Stella is a Miraculous Ladybug Original Character Alternate Universe, or a MLBOCAU. The Kwamis remain the same, but the humans Holders have all been replaced by OCs.
Originally I was going to use only my own OCs but I borrowed some from friends (and some of their friends joined in.) Oh and a few canon characters from other series ended up in here.
I'll be focusing as my OCs here, and mostly the major ones (being the Holders) though if you have a question for some of the Kwamis, that might be fun too. I'll probably just be answering questions from friends and not interacting much with other posts- maybe.
Spoilers Below
Naota Yamaguchi- Ladybug Holder Maris Stella
Fletcher Aldaine- Black Cat Holder Tenechat
Yuu Akimoto- Temporary Rooster Holder Dawnbringer
Hikaru Reinhardt- Fox Holder Fennekit
Erica Cruz- Bee Holder Ceratina
Sonya Remington- Former Turtle Holder Lavinia
Arc Kingsolver- Turtle Holder Kaihonu
Ham Malderess- Dragon Holder Czar Wyvern
Alicia Thompson- Rabbit Holder Cheshire Rabbit
Justin Rhodes- Monkey Holder Discord
Yukari Akimoto- Butterfly Holder Riodinidae
Aron Vector- Peacock Holder Paravani
Carmen Vector- Eagle Holder Eatos Occasional Peacock Holder Sukima
For Hallie Mathews-Elakha (Tiger Holder Tigris Cantus) Hitomi Elakha (Horse Holder Nightmare) and related characters please visit @elakha-house-cube
For Natasha Alexton (Goat Holder Sylvana) and related characters please visit @facultativeactivity
For Juniper Kempton (Ox Holder Io) and related characters please visit @fluffybunnybadass
The Dog Holder and Current Rooster Holder are not my OCs so I will not roleplay as them, but for reference sake
Eva Talbot- Dog Holder Labros
Loaño Ishida- Rooster Holder Chanticleer
Further Holders will be added as the story proceeds

Malice watched in child like delight as everything went sideways at once. The horror on everyone’s faces was priceless. The best thing however was Pegasus’ face and how much Atem was screaming in his head. It was like the sound of sweet summer rain, or when you peeled the skin off the bottom of someone’s feet. Eh, same thing. “Oh calm the fuck down Dr. Finklestien. I saved you didn’t I?” Malice asked looking at his nails. “You’re welcome by the way.” He rolled his eyes hard enough he saw stars. “No one is grateful anymore. That’s the problem with the world today.” He had to snort. “Ding ding, we have a winner. My name is Mal. I’m a friend of Atem’s. Sort of like…His own Yami.” He said offering that as way of explanation, after all, he wanted them to trust him. People didn’t tend to go around trusting people name Malice. Or at least that was HIS experience.
“Alright, Robop, listen I’ve been here for a while now and trust me when I say if I wanted to murderlate all of you I could have multiple times by now. A karaoke party when there’s a killer on the lose. It’s a wonder any of you have made it this far in life.” Malice waited until Felix and Lavinia were done with their spiel and launched into his own. “Not an archdemon, but I am a part of what developed while Atem was locked in the puzzle for three thousand years. Shit gets lonely. I was the only one there with him. We kept each other company. It’s the only reason Atem isn’t a little more Looney at this point. I kept him focused and sane.” That last part might have been a little debatable, but hey, he was going for ally here.
"How come Atem never mentioned you up until now, then?" Pegasus stated, raising a brow as he looked toward Mal. "And besides, the karaoke party wasn't that bad of an idea. I've done worse."
Arganan looked toward Pegasus with an incredulous expression. "How much worse?"
"Don't ask."
"You 'developed' over three-thousand years?" Lavinia blinked several times. "No wonder you used a hammer. Good shot, but it is a little dated compared most normal killing weapons..."
Felix looked toward Lavinia. "Should we really be giving him advice?"
"He did help us kill Faye, sooo..."
“What are we going to do with the body?” Geist asked, gestured to the very-dead Faye. “I mean, if you want her arrested, I could ‘undo’ her death and so on, but...”
“Let’s not.” Everyone else stated, and Geist sighed.
“Fine, but I’m not cleaning up the mess!”
"What is the Puzzle that you're talking about? Is it a jigsaw puzzle? An ancient Rubik’s cube?" Tahirah was utterly confused, and Pegasus sighed, before giving a quick explanation...or at least as quick as he could.
----five minutes later...---
"And that's what happened. " Pegasus stated, looking toward Geist and the others. "Also the reason why I lost an eye, by the way."
"Millennium Items.” Asthar frowned lightly. “I’d heard about those before, but I didn’t know they were actually real. Though I’d like to hear more information from Atem himself - if you can, er, switch places with him or however you do it with the whole possession thing.”
“Actually, I would like to hear more details from Atem too.” Pegasus frowned a bit. And also get more information about why he didn’t tell me about something like that!

Could we get some smutty headcanons with Lavinia?
By Ice Queen logic, she is incredibly turned on by temperature play. Being able to drag ice cubes down your body and watching you get goosebumps makes her shiver herself.
Especially when she’s the one holding said ice cube. With her lips.
She loves seeing you on your knees in front of her and worshipping her, or lying back with your mouth on her core, or… well, anything that involves your mouth on her, really.
Her moans are really soft and light, and she loves being able to roll her hips in pace with your tongue.
She’s not the kinkiest of people, but sex with her always is passionate and intense regardless.
But oh dear, she loves a good risk. Dragging you into a teacher’s office and pushing you against the door with her fingers hastily unzipping her pants? YES.
Pulling you onto her lap in the library and subtly grinding you on her thigh? You guessed it.
She’ll make sure you won’t moan too loud by kissing every sound right off of your lips.
She also loves lying next to you and kissing you deeply while your hand is between her legs and hers between yours.
And yes, she may or may not make it a competition who of you can get the other off first. Winner gets oral. So really, a win for both, regardless.
She loves kissing your shoulders and neck.
And once in a while, she will let go and let you have the upper hand in bed, relaxing into your touch, completely allowing her mask to fall.
And fuck, she’s gorgeous when she does that.
Regardless of the sex, she is soft when you’re done, even if it was in the middle of the day.
If you had a bed, she wouldn’t let you go if 20 horses tried to pull her away, but if you tell anyone…
If you didn’t have one, well… hand holding. And it’s a bit of the only time when she’s physically affectionate in public.
You just hope no one will ever notice that.

::Comfort Character Asks - Open::
💖 Do they stim/fidget/etc? How and what toys, vent methods they use?
Izadia: She's a vocal stimmer! Izadia doesn't have an identified neurodivergent but, I personally headcanon people that are half energy beings are not always 100% comfortable or satisfied with their current fleshy existence. Izadia sings, chirps & trills, and makes up silly little verses while she's working. She keeps it mostly to just singing in the ER because she has a very beautiful voice and most people enjoy hearing her. She's otherwise very energetic and I imagine she keeps like, a fidget cube in her bag both for herself and for anyone else who might need one.
Maliaresh: Smol Bean Mal liked to wear silly bands on his tail, and he would mess with them, lightly snapping or rolling them. As an adult, he's much less anxious, although he tends to twist his ring or adjust his star of David.
Lavinia: World's Creepiest Victorian Doll Can Hold Perfectly Still For Hours At A Time. Lavinia does not need to stim or fidget but she enjoys experiencing things as that is the advantage of being bodiedTM, so she hunts for textures or other sensory experiences she either hasn't had or enjoys immensely. I can see Lavinia owning a Pop-It, because Jason 100% gave his feral gremlin children bubble wrap to keep them occupied. Man had 7 kids.

We’re Back!!!
With the release of Time Spiral Remastered, I figured it as a good opportunity to revive my favorite cube.
I’ve decided to expand things to a full 360. This cube was originally built to be drafted by 6 people. I kept the total below 360 so we’d always have more than half the cube in the pool. With this update I wanted to be able to support 8-person pods (or 2x 4p). As a result it does dilute the deck, so I've gone a little deeper on some archetypes and also raised the overall power level to something a little closer to Constructed Vintage.
There’s been some turmoil that has pushed me away from MtG, but MtG Arena got under my skin and I've got the sickness again. I’m hoping to really get things going when the apocalypse is over.
To start with, here is the last condition the VCC was in when I stepped away: https://www.cubetutor.com/cubeblog/23458
From here I’ve added quite a large number of newer cards, strategies, and otherwise powerful choices that were originally removed. As it stands I still need 30 cuts, but figured I’d give anyone still listening a taste of where things are headed. I’ll be using a new link for the sake of preservation of the final state of the first VCC.
Here is where you will now find the most up to date list: https://www.cubetutor.com/cubeblog/177577
Problems moving forward:  Storm: is there enough support? It was easier to pull a storm deck together with the smaller card pool since the best cards were pretty narrow and the smaller number meant you were sure to get some of what you needed. I don’t want it to get short changed and I also can’t let the archetype fall apart as I feel it is an essential facet of this style of cube.
Archetypes: are some of these stale? They’re meant to show off the history of Magic’s oldest formats but are there more in testing things I can be doing than hate bears and Dark Depths? Second Sunrise could be spicy with the already heavy focus on artifacts but that would require a lot of retooling.
1-drop mana dorks: Should there be more? I limited this number to avoid green being perceived as being deeper than it is. Since this is a 4x cube something like 4x Birds of Paradise is an extremely high pick. Is this lack of 1-drop interaction negatively impacting green based decks? I’m hoping allosaurus Shepherd can help, but is that enough?
Here are the additions. I’ve only made a couple cuts so far:
Allosaurus Shepherd Ancestral Vision Archon of Emeria Basking Rootwalla Cavern of Souls Conspicuous Snoop Cranial Plating Crop Rotation Crystalline Giant Demonic Consultation Dreadhorde Arcanist Emry, Lurker of the Loch Flickerwisp Force of Negation Force of Vigor Garruk Wildspeaker Goblin Cratermaker Goblin Engineer Goblin Lackey Goblin Recruiter Golos, Tireless Pilgrim Hogaak, Arisen Necropolis Hollow One Hullbreacher Hypergenesis Krovikan Horror Lavinia, Azorius Renegade Living End Luminarch Aspirant Manifold Key Mother of Runes Mystic Forge Mystic Sanctuary Narset, Parter of Veils Oko, Thief of Crowns Once Upon a Time Opposition Agent Pact of Negation Palace Jailer Paradox Engine Paradoxical Outcome Prismatic Omen Prized Amalgam Remand Repeal Restore Balance Scapeshift Shambling Shell Silence Skirk Prospector Spell Queller Stonecoil Serpent Survival of the Fittest Thalia, Heretic Cathar Torch Courier Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger Underworld Breach Urza, Lord High Artificer Vengevine Wheel of Fate Wrenn and Six Thassa's Oracle Valki, God of Lies // Tibalt, Cosmic Impostor Simian Spirit Guide Birgi, God of Storytelling // Harnfel, Horn of Bounty Summoner's Pact Inventors' Fair Chief of the Foundry Foundry Inspector Steel Overseer Vesuva
-Notion Thief got the boot since Hullbreacher is usually just better and easier to cast.
Some notable additions: Goblins. Red has felt pretty lackluster. I avoided goblins because they are too linear to draft (in the way Elves was). With the increase in overall power level and the dilution of the card pool I think this is less a problem. It’s also allowed me to tighten my Human and Eldrazi tribes (thereby putting Cavern of Souls back on the table). Since I still need cuts this will be cut back, but I wanted to be as inclusive as possible for the first new update.
Green is also a tricky thing for a cube like this. In one of my final updates to the first version I focused on a Miracle Gro strategy, which I think is an excellent option. Since many decks are bizarre frankensteins of Vintage archetypes a pillar like miracle gro has a lot of incidental depth even if you’re not building a Gro deck. That said, every deck needs some way to play unfair in Vintage. Greens latest toys are a heavier focus on land based strategies as well as some mana cheating with cards like Hypergenesis.
Many archetypes have additions for them in this update that may raise eyebrows. I’ve had to add additional depth to some archetypes (take Dredge as an example) in order to keep draft consistency up. Shambling Shell absolutely does not add anything new or exciting to the draft, but a 4-person draft has only half the cube in rotation at any time now. It is essential to all supported archetypes that they have some level of consistency. All that said, shambling shell specifically may still get cut but it illustrates the point. I’ve also bumped up Ravager Shops support.
I’m currently working through cuts, but it’s of course challenging to know what’s what when testing is out of the question. I’m also concerned that there are some options or strategies that I’ve missed as I haven’t paid much attention over the last 3 years or so. Next updates will include the cuts, some updates on the physical copy, and any additional ideas that come to me between now and those 30 cuts. I’ll probably do the cuts in waves, trimming 10 or so each time after some sealed and bot drafts. Unfortunately the bots are not useful since they can’t follow the 4x gimmick, but should still give me a decent feeling.
Feel free to draft it on cube tutor, but please remember to draft it with awareness of the 4x unrestricted cards vs 1x restricted card gimmick. While this cube absolutely can be (and often is) drafted as a normal 1x cube, the intended experience is 4x copies and 60 card decks.
Have at it!

What do you like to drink on a hot day? + What do you like to drink on a cold day? To Lavinia!
Tumblr media
“On hot days…nothing beats water…with ice cubes.” She put it bluntly, with a grin on her face. As if remembering the few happy days of summer she experienced, washing away her fatigue with chilled water before heading back out to play.
“On cold days…” She tilted her head to the side a little, eyes glancing at the floor- no, the wall, wait, no…her eyes were glancing all over the place! A hand slid up her arm, rubbing it awkwardly as she continued her answer.
“On cold days…to keep warm, I…drink warm water.” o h.

At the Zoo - Chapter 1.
Tumblr media
Huge, huge thanks to @xerxia31 for her awesome betaing skills ;) My friend, I would have stopped writing long ago if it wasn't for you.
To dandelion-sunset, you know I was frightened by this story - thank you for pushing me out of my comfort zone :)
Aesthetics - have you seen how gorgeous they are ? this is the incredible, awesome work of @akai-echo who has so much talent, class and skills i'm left speechless every time she does something for me :)
Here on FFN / AO3
 1.                       Pavo cristatus
“It’s going to be a big, big, big day!!” the woman in front of Peeta giggled, in a bright blue suit and oversized jacket. She apparently was in charge of communication, but the only things she was communicating at the moment were headaches and too much perfume. Walking on high heels, her steps as big as her skirt would allow, she commented on everything they saw. Even the signs at each one of the crossroads. Or why the trash bins were green. Important questions.
Peeta followed his co-workers through the maze that was the Zoo, passing by the big monkeys and some strange birds, until the whole crew from Capitol TV reached a brick building that stood out in the sea of green and bamboos, in front of which people wearing zoo uniforms were waiting. They formed small groups, a mass of brown cargo pants and gray tee-shirts, with radios clipped to their belts or the big pockets, buzzing periodically.
Peeta stayed a bit apart with the group of journalists and technicians, not wanting to mix with the crowd of zookeepers in front of him.
“This is a strange place.” A tattooed man with too many piercing to count held out his hand to Peeta. “I’m Preston Oakfield, but I go by Castor. Sound.”
“Peeta Mellark. Camera.” Peeta took the extended hand and shook it, almost relieved to have someone to talk to besides the strange woman who had led them here.
“It’s weird being here, right? I mean, who is going to watch a story about a zoo?” Castor asked, hoisting up the strap of his bag. “But well, it’s three months of work, right?”
“Right.” Peeta agreed, not wanted to talk too much about it. A three month job was unexpected for him at this point in his career, and he felt the nerves starting to creep up his body at the prospect of using a camera again.
“Ahum, is this working?” The peacock lady was now in front of the building, tapping the mic in front of her, the noise reverberating through the loudspeakers that had been installed. “Well, Little Teddy says it’s okay, so…” Peeta saw the woman take a deep breath before leaning against the mike.
“My name is Effie Trinket and I’m the Zoo Head of Communications. As you all know, we’re having new friends join us today for three months! They will be filming you every day, even on the weekends, so please give a warm welcome to the journalists from Capitol TV!”
Effie clapped, looking straight at the group on the edge of the crowd. Peeta knew the eyes were trained on everyone, but he couldn't help sweating as he tried not to count... how many people were there. He felt Exposed.
He closed his eyes, took a deep breath to calm his mind, remembering the mantra Dr Aurelius made him memorize. My name is Peeta Mellark. I’m twenty-six years old. I come from Panem, VA. My family owns a bakery. I just came back from Afghanistan where I lost my leg and my friends. To bake cinnamon rolls, you have to just add a touch of rum to the dough to make it better. My name is Peeta Mellark.
The words were soothing, even if they were only coming from his mind and he was the only one hearing them. They were a certainty, in a world that had become a permanent threat, something he could hang on to in the wee hours of the morning, when sleep evaded him.
“Come, come, come, introduce yourselves!” Effie’s voice rang in the microphone in front of her, as the group of TV-people started to move, Castor pulling at Peeta’s arm to come with them. They reluctantly walked towards the front of the crowd, regrouping into the three-persons teams that would work together for a few months. Peeta joined Castor and a strange woman, who had half her skull shaved and tattooed, and a lot of piercings.
As Effie introduced the two other teams of journalists first, Peeta took his time scanning the zookeepers in front of him, so many different people and personalities gathered there. He could already spot the shy ones, trying their best to remain unseen behind taller people, the cocky ones, that guy with bronze hair was a sure winner, or the brooding kind like the tall dark man with his arms crossed over his chest, a smaller woman at his side, a scowl etched on her face.
Peeta looked again at the woman in front of him. There was something about her that held his attention, something he couldn’t pinpoint right now. She was beautiful, but he had seen more beautiful bodies, or lusher hair, and women who smiled.
“Well, just call me Castor - it’s easier.”
“Thank you, dear! And now to the next - and last - member of the crew!”
Peeta felt a tap on his shoulder, as Castor passed by him to regain his former place, before noticing all eyes were on him
He reluctantly moved towards the microphone, rubbing his sweaty palms on his bleached jeans, starting his mantra yet again. It was  the third time today.
“Hi, guys, well, I’m Peeta, and I’m a cameraman and I’m looking forward to working with you.” He tried to smile as much as he could, even if it was difficult. Dr A had told him to start smiling more months ago. Here, nobody knew him. Maybe he could try to find who he used to be. After all, what harm could come from a zoo?
“Well, well, we should get started, right? Crew one is to follow Annie today… Annie, dear, where are you?” Effie looked at the crowd gathered until she spotted a tiny brown haired woman raising her hand, almost shyly. “Here she is, our favorite veterinarian! Come, come, dear”
Peeta could practically hear the sigh of the vet from where he was - a solid twenty feet away, that almost, almost brought a genuine smile to his lips. He looked as Annie greeted her crew from Capitol TV before walking away, already talking to the journalist, Messallah.
“Wonderful! Crew Two, you will be with Finnick. Where are-” Effie couldn’t even finish her question when a man stepped in, all dimples and bronze hair, green eyes shining in the morning.
“Want a sugar cube?” he asked the crew that had been appointed to work with him that day, holding out his hand on which were a couple of the treats.
“One rule, though - this is for human consumption. Nothing for the animals.” Finnick said, before shaking the hands of the journalists. Peeta noticed how the woman, Lavinia or Octavia he couldn’t remember, looked at Finnick, ogling him from top to bottom shamelessly. They were soon on their way, opposite from where Annie had gone, already chatting together.
Peeta watched them leaving to the sound of Finnick’s laughter, before his attention turned back to the zookeepers in front of him. Who would he be assigned to? The calm man with chocolate skin, or the spiky-haired brunette with a lot of piercings playing with her swiss army knife? The perky young blonde woman, or the tall one who was eating sunflower seeds? Or would it be the brunette with the silver eyes, her arms crossed over her chest, her scowl deepening with every passing minute.
“And finally, last but not least, the third crew will be with Gale, our Animal Curator. Gale, darling, can you come over here?”
Peeta hefted the bag with his camera inside, looking at the zookeepers going away, already grabbing their walkie-talkies, fading into the alleys of the zoo, until only two people remained in front of them - the tall dark haired man, and the woman Peeta had noticed earlier- whispering to each other before they finally parted, sharing a hug. Then the man walked towards them.
“I’m Gale,” he said sharply, not even extending his hand. “I guess you’ll stay with me all day. See if you guys can survive a full day of work. Let’s go, hope you don’t mind ruining your shoes.”
“Gale!” Effie chimed in, coming towards the man in the strides her tight pencil skirt allowed. “You do not need to be all animalistic! You’d better behave!”
“Or what, you’ll tell Haymitch?” Gale snarked.
“Worse.” Effie smirked, before adding. “I’ll tell Madge.”
“Effie…” Gale’s voice had lost all pretence of being intimidating.
“We’ll see how kind you are when you have to sleep on the couch for two weeks. Now, shall we?”
Peeta could see the spark in Effie’s eyes as she motioned for Gale to move over, before she turned in a flurry of blue and green, her hair never moving as she left on her too high heels towards the administrative building.
“So. I’m Gale, the animal curator. Which means I’m in charge of all the animals, reproduction programs with the vet, and exhibitions. You’re going to follow me and film whatever you feel like filming then. Ready?”
Without waiting for their answer, Gale turned in the opposite direction from Effie, all the while talking.
“I’ll show you around quickly, then I have to go help sexing the baby wallabies. Is that okay for you?”
Peeta exchanged glances with his teammates, and at their nods, he grabbed his camera from his bag. It felt strange at first to be holding the device again, to feel the weight of it on his shoulder, to realize his fingers still knew where to push or pull, which buttons to use.
But more importantly, it felt good.
 --
Hard.
The job was harder than Peeta had thought it would be. Gale literally spent his day pacing the zoo, back and forth, going from helping in the marine department find out if the arctic wolves had mated, to the other side of the park, checking on the giraffes with Johanna - the spiky-haired brunette in charge of the beasts together with lions and leopards too - to check on the impending arrival of a new male in the coming weeks, then running to the petting farm to sex the wallabies.
They went to the petting farm, and Peeta had every intention of filming that part then heading back to the cafeteria to eat.
But the wallabies had other ideas. Apparently, they didn’t like being grabbed by their tails and lifted to discover whether they had a pouch or not. Peeta quickly discovered the animals would fight back. And as if it wasn’t difficult enough to film moving animals, outside, he had to take care of where you put your feet, because yes, the prairie was mined with poop. He had to film while said wallabies were boxing back, with their feet.
To Peeta, it was so surreal watching all of this happening. His mind couldn’t help but go back to places where there was laughter too, even if often, it was covered by the explosions or the sounds of planes above them. The push of an alpaca quickly brought him back to Arrowtown though, in the middle of a prairie, with actual llama drool on his shirt. Or alpaca. Or whatever.
When they were finally done, Annie and her crew leaving the prairie to go to an emergency involving a marmoset, they followed Gale to the cafeteria, where they were able to sit for a few moments. Peeta welcomed the relief, his prosthetic making his skin itch under his jeans, as rivulets of sweat kept coming under the liner protecting his stump.
“Hope you’re not tired yet. We still have a lot to do this afternoon. And there will be visitors too so we’ll have to be extra careful with your big camera,” Gale said before taking a bite of his sandwich.
Peeta was about to answer when the silver-eyed woman who had captivated him that morning came rushing in, her long dark braid bouncing on her shoulder as she ran to the head zookeeper.
“Gale! It’s rascal ! She escaped!”
Peeta was wondering what rascal had escaped where, who the rascal was, when Gale jumped from his chair, grabbed his sandwich and turned to him. “Mellark, grab your things, we’re going hunting.”
Hunting? Peeta thougth. I thought zoos were to protect the animals?
 ---
It turned out that hunting wasn’t really hunting, per se.
And that the rascal was actually Aska, a beautiful snowy owl that had flown away from the bird sector into the countryside surrounding the zoo.
Which meant they had to hunt down a bird, in the hopes he would willingly want to come onto the big leather falconer glove instead of wandering the woods, as Gale explained, while they all hurried to the other end of the zoo.
Peeta was already tired. His leg hurt more than he was willing to admit, his back was drenched in sweat at carrying his camera and avoiding the contact with the animals, and his mind - maybe his mind was the least problematic part right now, surprisingly. Having to focus himself as well as the camera on the animals or their keepers who kept moving around, attending to their tasks had kept everything else at bay.
They soon reached the aviary, where Gale was apparently expected.  Three people, among which the brunette Peeta had seen at the welcoming speech were ready to go, carrying a rather large GPS receiver.
“You got a signal?” Gale asked the man in front of him, who was checking something on the radar of the GPS.
“Nothing yet. But Mike said he saw him fly away southwest.”
“He’ll go northeast,” the young woman with the braid said in an authoritatively voice, before turning to grab a set of keys from the counter nearby.
“Mike said…” Gale tried to counter.
“Mike is good at technical stuff, I’m good in birds. I’m heading northeast,” she answered, gathering her things before heading to the door of the aviary.
 “Katniss…”
“Don’t Katniss me, Gale, I’m heading northeast. She’ll follow the wind,” she added, pointing at a weathervane just outside the now open door.
The tip of the old, rusty vane was pointing northeast.
Gale followed her, along with the two other people from the aviary. Peeta was exchanging looks with Castor and their journalist, wondering whether or not they should follow, when Gale turned back to them, asking.
“Aren’t you supposed to shadow us? Unless you’re afraid of a bumpy ride in a 4x4?”
If only he knew how many bumpy rides I’ve been on, Peeta thought, trying to not let the memories of another place, months ago, invade his mind. Too many rides in four-wheelers, under the too shiny sun of Afghanistan.
“Oh, we’re in, handsome!” Cressida answered excitedly for the three of them, grabbing her things, and ushering Castor and Peeta to follow them out.
“I guess we’re on a hunt for a big white owl…” Castor said.
Well, that made a nice change from the hunt for big bad guys.
 ---
Night had fallen when Peeta got back to his room, muscles sore from the exhaustion, his shirt thick with sweat, his stump hurting from the hours he had spent with the zoo crew looking for an owl.
Said owl who had decided not to come down from the oak tree they had finally found her in, regarding the falconers with disdain. Nobody could make her move from her perch at the top of the tree.
They gave up when night fell, hoping they would be more lucky catching her the next day.
Peeta’s crew had been the last to leave the park, long after the official closing hour, long after the two others teams. They had all met later at the hotel’s bar, all excited about their day, all having stories to share.
Peeta had excused himself as soon as he had finished his beer, telling them he had phone calls to make - which was at least partly true. Because as he contemplated the ceiling, he knew full well he should call Dr. A to tell him about his day, to share his feelings about his first day back to work, but all he could think of were animals.
And a pair of grey eyes.

Alex Rex returns with the melancholic and redemptive 'Latest Regret' [405 Premiere]
Alex Rex is the moniker used by Alex Neilson of (now defunct) Trembling Bells. He has released one album under guise before, 2017's Vermillion, but will be returning on March 29th with a follow up called Otterburn. It's set to be a deep and heavy record, largely informed by the surprise and untimely passing of his brother in 2017.
Today we bring you the first single and video to be shared from Otterburn, the rainy-day contemplation of 'Latest Regret'. It's a song that finds Alex Rex weaving among dark thoughts, both comic and earnest, carried by loping and wistful rock. 'Latest Regret' finds Rex reunited with Trembling Bells members Lavinia Blackwall (who gives the song a soulful lift with divine backing vocals and crisp organ) and Mike Hastings (whose electric guitar shines like a silvery trail in the mist), and together they capture gently rousing a snapshot of repentance and forgiveness.
'Latest Regret' also comes with a video by Tom Chick, which Alex Rex introduces, saying: ""Latest Regret” was written in one sitting in Regents Park during an unhappy stay in London. It’s basically “La Bamba” reimagined by a deranged art squirrel. It was filmed by Tom Chick on the M8 motorway and in the Glad Café, Glasgow. It is our homage to the Cassavetes film “Killing Of A Chinese Bookie” It stars Becca Harrison, Sophie Sexon, Rory Haye, Mike Hastings & Lew Porteous."

Alex Rex's Otterburn comes out through Tin Angel on March 29th. He's got these tour dates planned in April:

My husband and I just spent 3 days in Madrid, Spain. It took almost a full day to get there with all kinds of flight issues and such but I was determined to not let that get to me and decided to put mind over matter and make the most out of the short time there.
Our hotel was north of the center of the city in the Conde Duque district,  but walking distance to almost everything. After settling in to our room we took a stroll (even though it was raining) to meet our daughter and her boyfriend at a local restaurant that they had found. On the way there, we spotted numerous fun looking tapas restaurants and bars. It seemed likely that this would be another eating holiday.  I was quite tired and not hungry after the big travel day so just had a cocktail before we crashed for the night.
The next day we had  a delicious breakfast at Federal Café, a super popular place opened by a couple of Australian expats who first started one  in Barcelona. It’s full of lots of healthy and tasty options and excellent coffee. I loved my avocado toast with poached egg and felt energized and ready for the day.
Before heading to Madrid, we did do a bit of research and found a company called Devour Madrid that does some amazing tours around the city. While I hadn’t actually booked anything with them, we arranged to meet with one of their guides for a chat. Luke Darracott is an Englishman living in Madrid who  loves all kinds of food, wine and traveling. He’s also a tv host for a variety of food/travel shows and so I was pretty certain we’d hit it off.  I showed Luke a list of tapas places our wonderful friend in Almeria, Maria Virgina sent us and he loved her selection. At the top of the list, was Casa Toni so we made our plan to go there that night.
While the rain was holding off for a bit, we strolled over to see the Royal Palace, one of Madrid’s main attractions. There was too long a line to go in so instead we headed over to the Sorolla Art Gallery, a recommendation from Luke. It’s a beautiful house with sculptures, ceramics, furniture and jewelry as well as the artist Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida’s paintings.
As dinner is quite late in Spain, with most people eating after 10PM we first scheduled to see the flamenco show at Casapatas. Starting at about 8PM it was an hour and half of almost nonstop music and dancing and was rather exhilarating. By now, the tapas places around were open and starting to fill up so we quickly made our way to Casa Toni where we were taken to a table upstairs and promptly brought a bottle of local Madrid wine while waiting for our food. This place is known by the locals to have some of the best traditional tapas such as pigs ears and lamb intestines and so, yes, I had to try them. I’m not a fan of the pigs ears but the lamb intestines that were fried and wrapped around a vine were really delicious. We also had some chorizo (some of the best I’ve ever tasted) and a really good eggplant dish, patatas bravas (fried potato cubes with a spicy sauce)and some prawns with garlic.
We woke up to more rain the next day and so decided to visit the city’s History museum to get a better understanding of Madrid’s evolution as an urban city. It’s a small and easy museum to navigate and also free to enter.
We then took the metro to the La Latina district to check out the Mercado de La Cebada, a 2 story  indoor market full of stalls with meats, vegetables, fruits and seafood as well as some newer wine and beer bars and where on Saturday, the seafood aisles become a crowded and festive eating and drinking extravaganza. Thankfully, Luke met us and handled the ordering and found us a space so we could take part in this local happening. We had a very nice local Rueda wine (all of 7 euros) with mussels, octopus and delicious white anchovies.
Finding out how much I love cheese, Luke then took us to a tapas bar nearby that had an amazing assortment of cheese along with all kinds of local wines by the glass. In fact, the place called Almacen de Vino was actually a storehouse for wine that used to hold wine in casks and then sell it to the locals. The tiny place was packed and the smell of cheese wafted all around. I got to taste about 3 different types while sipping some nice monastrell.
Back on the metro, we now headed to one of Madrid’s best wine shops, Lavinia, located in the elegant Salamanca district. This large store has a restaurant upstairs where we sat down with a glass of sherry and some complimentary tapas before I browsed around and found the sherries that I ended up purchasing. After a full day of almost non stop eating and drinking, it was a simple snack and drink before heading off to bed.
The final day in Madrid was cold and windy but thankfully, not raining. Deciding it would be a good day to shop we headed to the biggest department store in Spain (and in fact, Europe, El Corte Ingles.  We went to the one on Plaza Callao since we heard it had an entire floor dedicated to gourmet food and drink. The Gourmet Experience, as its called, is on the 9th floor and has an amazing outdoor terrace with beautiful views of Madrid. We managed to get some photos before rain began again and browsed the amazing display of hams, cheeses, olive oils and other Spanish delicacies. If only I could take it all back home with me.
Heading out to the Gran Via, we popped in and out of shops until we were hungry for a bite. The rain had picked up, once again, and we needed to find a place in a hurry. Fortunately, we were right by a pretty place called La Carmen in the Plaza del Carmen and found ourselves in this friendly, stylish and very comfortable restaurant. The menu was diverse and reasonable and we shared some excellent roasted pork ribs, bull’s tail risotto, a cheese and sausage platter, spicy potatoes and the popular, fried squid sandwich. A couple of glasses of albarino and I was completely satisfied.
The rain had now stopped so we made the plan to walk back to our hotel. On the way, my daughter spotted an authentic looking Vienese café and we reenergized with coffee and hot chocolate.
We made a stop on our way to see the Temple of Debod, an Egyptian monument dating back to the 2nd century BC. It was gift to Madrid  and reconstructed there in 1972. It’s located in La Montana park near the Plaza de Espana that has more fabulous views of the city and surrounding mountains.
Our final meal in Madrid was at the charming and cozy El Jardin Secreto (Secret Garden), for a light dinner and a couple of glasses of wine. My husband had pig trotters that were super moist and tasty and I had a crepe filled with cheese that was simply okay. While the food might not have been the best in my opinion, the cute atmosphere was worth the visit.
The next morning, we had a quick bite at the hotel, filling up on Spanish ham and cheese before our easy taxi ride to the airport.
The three days were complete and I am thrilled that this short trip was so gratifying.
Cheers and all the best,
Zita
Meandering through Madrid My husband and I just spent 3 days in Madrid, Spain. It took almost a full day to get there with all kinds of flight issues and such but I was determined to not let that get to me and decided to put mind over matter and make the most out of the short time there.

Taylor Swift has surfaced the popular music video for “End Game,” including Ed Sheeran and Future. And between partying in Toyko, London and Miami, Swift made sure to experiment with her fashion throughout the video.
Wearing an oversized sequin frock, the singer opted for its no-pants look, making her Christian Louboutin boots a standout within one scene.

For nearly $ 2,000, the boots are inspired from winter mountain sports and also retail dubbed the Crampon.

Modern Residence in Poland Highlights Floor-to-Ceiling Bookcase http://ift.tt/2yt8pFs
Metaforma Architects completed the design of a modern residence in Poland that displays an interesting geometry. The body of the building consists of two intersecting cubes. The living area is located in the larger one, while the garage and the gym occupy the smaller section of the house.
The facades have been covered with black plaster and cool pigments, and with protection against biological corrosion. “The wood-like composite we chose, unlike natural materials, does not require additional impregnation,” the architects explained. “Dark details in the form of metal window casings and balustrades consistently complete the concept. All these create an interesting three-dimensional effect.” The layout of this modern residence was planned in tune with the active lifestyle of the owners: the day zone is located on the ground floor, together with the sports room and guest area. The bedrooms are placed on the upper level and offer a high level of privacy.
A generously sized bookcase in the living area adds character to the design scheme. The use of a kitchen island allows the owners to work in the kitchen and keep an eye on the rest of the living room at the same time.
The architects also planned an unusual wine cellar. Wooden pins are placed between the rows of bricks in the wall to store bottles. Here, the residents can take their time selecting their beverage while admiring the available collection visually multiplied by the mirror at the end of the room.
