16. Louie Louie by The Kingsmen debuted Nov 63 and peaked at number two for six weeks, charting 1321 points.

The group formed in Portland, Oregon, and had nine chart entries 1963-66. Two made the top ten. Their Louie Louie charted again in 1966 for two weeks, and was their final entry.

The song was originally recorded by Richard Berry and The Pharaohs in 1957 as a Jamaican love song. Three remakes charted including one by John Belushi in 1978 (from Animal House). The only remake to make the top 40 was by The Sandpipers in 1966 in an easy listening version.
