Japanese Kirby Fangames!
If we're talking about old Kirby fangames, may I interject with some I've found myself?
So, about two weeks ago give or take I've found a folder I've long forgotten on my computer containing a series of Japanese Kirby fangames I've downloaded from a now defunct Kirby fansite called Ashika no Hobii. It's been a a while since its shut down, so I figured I'd share with those who might be interested in these sorts of things.
Puchi Puchi Kirby - 2016 Karamero Games, Karakara
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a lemmings type game wherein you use Kirby's abilities to lead Kirby to the goal. The Kirbies will automatically bounce off of any obstruction or wall. This can include using Rock to turn a Kirby into stone so that they become a stone that will cause the Kirbies to go into the opposite direction, Hi-Jump to jump over large gaps, and Sword to break any Star Blocks in your way. It ranges from a medium to high difficulty. You start out with 21 levels so it's not a short game.
Bikaby Land - 2014 Karakara
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a mirrored styled puzzle game based off of Binary Land where you control the results of Kirby being split in two pieces by Splice n' Slice from Fofa Factor. It's a little tricky because the two mirror each other in opposite directions when it comes to movements but after a bit it becomes really fun!
LOLOLALA - 2021 Karamero Games, Egger Engines Software, Castle Lololo Laboratory
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's a LoloLala fangame, the best way to describe it is to see it as more of a remaster. Comes with a training mode, small adventure mode, and maze mode. You might need some basic knowledge of Japanese to get the full experience of the game. From looking at the credits this was a large fangame project among different people.
Kirby's Word Puzzle - 2013, Karamero Games, Karakara
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a Japanese Kirby themed word puzzle game. Good way to learn Japanese words related to Kirby. You slide shift blocks from side to side to make words. It has six levels in total.
Balance Number - 2016, Ashika no Hobii, Egger Engines Enterprise
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A game where you play as Lolo and have to use numbers to balance a bridge to save Lala. You jump to grab a floating number block and then place it on the red question mark, if your math is correct then it'll balance out. All the while Lala will continue to slowly roll across the bridge. I like this game in particular because it is the closest I'll ever get to a Kirby edutainment game.
Star Breaker - ???, Ashika no Hobii
Tumblr media
I believe this is supposed to be a remake of that one block breaker game featuring Rick from Kirby's Toy Box. Not much I can say, it's works well!
GO! Lemi-Robo! - 2018, Ashika No Hobii
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is another lemmings type of game where you play as the robotic Kirby you control in Planet Robobot with the remote controller in those casino levels. However, unlike Puchipuchi Kirby, you don't control with arrows keys and have to actively type out the instructions with really simple code to make it move. I found this game in particular to be fun! Reminder, use 8 and 9 for parenthesis.
There were others like this fangames of Samurai Kirby or a Kirby parody of Action53 in my folder, but to my knowledge those can still be downloaded for now. The games I've listed are from a now defunct (as far as I'm aware of) Japanese Kirby fansite called called Ashika no Hobii (あしかのほびぃ), or ashihobi.net. From what I can tell and gather, the download links for these games are completely gone or lead to dead ends with the site's shut down. You can find the site from the Internet Archive as, thankfully, there were some captures taken. I've downloaded and compiled these games for archival purposes. They work fine but need to be ran with a locale emulator. Some of the games will have a .txt document which has instructions for the games and how to play them, along with credits too.
As a side note, I would like to recommend a YouTube channel, KirbyYellow or きね. They're a channel that does a lot of Kirby quizzes but also makes videos with gameplay on various Kirby fangames and Kirby fan RPGs. If you're interested in looking at niche Kirby fangames, they're the channel you're looking for. They tend to put links to downloads in they description, however, don't be surprised if those links are now defunct.

Yin the Cat, and Yang the Cat
These two are the result of Slice n' Splice ( Kirby: Right Back At Ya! ) splitting Chase the Cat into two smaller kittens.

Slice n' Splice is a robotic monster who holds the sun rod and the moon rod. He's the one who caused Fofa to become Fololo and Falala. He was eventually defeated by Cutter Kirby.

Omg I botched the colors so bad. All I have are basically sharpies, so I didn't have the right green or red/orange for him. It looks like he lost a fight with a highlighter.
It's a redraw of a Slice n Splice idea I got when I first got on tumblr at least a year ago.

This is what his tones are supposed to be. (For people who don't know)

hmmm...
since I'm getting Ideas for Lupin III, I'm thinking about Kirby: Right Back At Ya Ideas.
Examples:
Fossil Fools (pt 1 and 2)
2. Frog Wild
3. FoFa Factor
4. (Choose a Idea if you wanna give me an Idea from the Series)
Reasons:
(Fossil Fools) I understand about dumb resurrections, but I was thinking of 5 or more monsters. like Lupinasuraus and Z-Rex.
2. (Frog Wild) You gotta be scared. who knows what madness the Demon Frog will cause if it got on Lupin or Zeni. Lupin would go crazy, and go on a short rampage. I bet Zenigatta will be scary as DDD when the demon frog gets on him if it has tape on it's back. If the frog really is scared of snakes, then just put it where a big snake is.
3. (FoFa Factor) Well, I don't know why this is a thing I came up with but Split Lupin along with Split Zenigatta would be EXTREMELY Confusing. >_<
4. You can choose. ;)
There, That's all I have.
i'm out of ideas.

Am I the only one who finds the lord around demon beasts kinda... strange sometimes? Like I remember there was a episode where a guy accused Kirby and Lolo and Lala of being demon beasts and like.... they are? Or at least Lololo and Lalala- and this was after we found out about Lola. Also it says that Nightmare creates them but also Knuckle Joe’s father became one?? wonder if maybe I misunderstood something or if there was a mistranslation in the subs I watched but I find it kinda fickle.
It is SUPER odd yes! I get the feeling that the writer's definition of demon beast changed as the show went on for various reasons.
(There wasn't a mistranslation, at least on THAT, that I know of lol. Though, fun fact, you can translate majuu as magical beast, which is perhaps a less 'biased' reading?)
Depending on the writer, the definition of demon beasts shifts back and forth from 'it depends on your origins, regardless of alignment' and 'a demon beast is something that anyone can turn into, regardless of origin'.
So it's, both, really?
Anything Nightmare creates with his powers is generally considered a demon beast- but as Bun points out in ep 94. "Demon beasts aren't born evil, they're trained to be bad." So, Phan Phan, or Chilly, or Robo Puppy.
Lololo and Lalala have demon beast origins, but because they don't serve Nightmare and aren't evil, maybe they don't consider themselves as such? (Tho the easiest answer: the writers forgot :V)
Joe and his dad were both corrupted by Nightmare's power, but weren't created by him. So was Lovely, Bonkers, and Escargon.
And then we have Chip, who is a "Contract" Demon Beast which is a whole other thing...
Heck I'll just paste in my old demon beast headcanons- I try to keep it close to canon with a bit of flair lol
Demon beasts are what the many varied workers of Holy Nightmare are called. They can be anything from dragons to viruses to robots. They come in three main varieties which we shall refer to as: Created, Corrupted, and Contract.
Created
These are of course the ones made by Nightmare using energy from the fears and bad dreams that power him. It's easiest to take ones from people's dream worlds that he can invade (this is why you end up with bizarre things like evil corncobs or flying pies) but he is also powerful enough to create more unique beings.
Nightmare can easily create an almost limitless number of mindless 'fodder' enemies which can be used right away, but have little power or intelligence. He can also create more powerful, sentient beings - but they are created in a child state and must mature naturally before they can be useful. With more bestial types this isn't always a problem, but with more intelligent beings it can be quite a process.
Created demon beasts are not naturally 'evil' as some might expect. Some animal-like types may have wild instincts which can be taken advantage of, but it actually takes some time and training** to make them vicious. Often if a demon's will proves too strong to break, they're merely disposed of.
Presumed Canon Examples: Ice Dragon, Bugzzy, Slice n' Splice, Kracko, Masher, Broom King
---
Corrupted
Because creating life takes a large amount of energy, the preferred method is to corrupt an existing life form. The process causes radical changes in physical form and increases aggression drastically. It's easiest to corrupt those who have been overcome with negative emotions like hatred and revenge. Corruption is reversible.
There are also individuals who appear to be corrupted but are working for Holy Nightmare willingly, such as Dr. Moro or Beat. Many decide to work for Nightmare in exchange for power.
Known Canon Examples: Lovely, Knuckle Joe, Knuckle Joe's father, Bonkers, Escargon
---
Contract
These could be said to be demons 'in name only'. They're often individuals that owe a large amount of money to HNM and so are forced to work off their debt as an employee. Nightmare doesn't use mind control on these because he finds it much more effective to force obedience by threatening their lives and/or friends and family members.
Known Examples: Chip
---
(** Most demon 'training' is handled by clowns, as everyone knows they are the true embodiment of evil.)

more Kirby OC Refs!!! Cutchop The Bootleg Slice N’ Splice and Null0 The Dumbed Down Version of 02Dark Matter. Cutchop is one of BladeRoller’s pals. same with Null0...Null0 is more of ‘that kid that follows them everywhere and they gotta babysit...’ Cutchop supports BladeRoller’s dream to be a member of the GSA for two reasons. 1 because friends and practice (can’t really use sun/moon rod very well because they are p heavy o op s). 2 Can’t remember if he’s a monster or a soldier so he’s gonna ask the GSA about it maybe.
Null0 doesn’t really speak. They communicate by pointing at something they want pmuch.

How a bit of irony in the KUAU: Slice n' Splice (Kittari-Hittari for those who are fans of the original anime dub) as Rutile? I'll do a bit of an art later to see what that would look like.
I’d have to see How that’d work first, but I appreciate the idea

Favorite and least favorite dub changes?
Oooh. Well, I mean we'd be here a while if we wanna talk least favorite... :V
But no there's actually some bits they did a good job localizing for sure! Sometimes the Japanese language has limitations that English has an easier time with. (Off the top of my head, in ep 11 where Dedede is trying Kawasaki's food, in Japanese he just says 'mazui' over and over because that's the word for 'food that tastes bad', while they mix it up more in the dub with a variety of synonyms, (nasty, rotten, etc) which sounds a bit better!)
Slice n' Splice is a good translation of KittariHattari and I'd honestly go with it in the subs too.
Least favorite on like a technical level is the music change which I think most people agree with. It can be too loud and overwhelming at times, and dub viewers missed out on some great tracks and game music remixes. :(
Also cutting all of Kirby's lines. They could have had Makiko Ohmoto re-record them or something! ;_; But no, silent Kirby...
If I had to pick a more personal one... I think making Sword and Blade rude to Meta Knight? They'd never insult his cooking even if it was terrible. (And we know MK doesn't cook, he's an instant ramen and microwave meal kind of guy for sure, fight me)
But a lot of people like that joke so it's not all bad I guess, lol?
