The Ale Apothecary and Ruse Brewing collaborate to release Dreamscape, released during the Portland Farmhouse and Wild Ale Festival
Press Release
3/27/2019 Portland, OR -
The Portland Farmhouse and Wild Ale Festival is pleased to announce the official beer of the 2019 festival is “Dreamscape” by The Ale Apothecary and Ruse Brewing. This special collaboration was produced specifically for the farmhouse festival and will be available in very limited edition 375ml bottles for $12 and on draft at the festival April 5-7th at Glendoveer Golf Course next to Von Ebert Brewing East.
Dreamscape is the 6th official Portland Farmhouse and Wild Ale Festival beer and bottle release, the first also being from The Ale Apothecary in 2014 for the 2nd annual event. The beers description reads: This blended saison encompasses our appreciation for farmhouse ales. A plethora of our house cultures merge together with expressive oak to create a depth and dream scape experience. 5.5% ABV.
“The Portland Farmhouse Fest is one of the highlights of the year for us,” says Ale Apothecary owner/brewmaster Paul Arney.  “We don’t participate in many beer fests due to our small size and staff, but our tasting room often hears ‘The first time I ever had your beer was at the Portland Farmhouse Fest!’  This shows us a direct link to new and established customers is through the efforts of the Farmhouse fest and we wouldn’t miss it. I’m honored to be working with Shaun and Devin from Ruse to present the official beer for this years’ fest.”
Dreamscape is actually a blend of beers from both Ale Apothecary in Bend, Oregon and Ruse Brewing in Portland. Both components were barrel-aged saisons with various degrees of wild yeast, bacteria complexity and oak contributions.
“Although, the beers from each brewery were quite different they complimented each other well” says Ruse Brewing’s co-owner/co-brewer Shaun Kalis on the collaboration. “Paul’s casks are very fruit forward with a beautiful nose of ripe orchard earth blended with our foeder beer which brought bright and balanced acidity and oak vanilin and tannins.”
“I had gotten to know Shaun and Devin when I worked with Culmination for the Native Oregonism and they were both working there at the time,” adds Paul Arney. “When they opened their brewery, we talked about finding a reason to make beer together and this opportunity allowed us to do just that!”
The Ale Apothecary’s contribution to the blended collaboration is part of a larger new project called UVRSL, a series of short-term farmhouse ales with farm-sourced ingredients and process. This part of Dreamscape is made of barley, wheat, oats, rye and mashed with sweetgrass hay. It was open fermented in an Oregon oak tank made by Oregon Barrelworks and was barrel-aged for 3 months.
About the 2019 Portland Farmhouse and Wild Ale Festival: The Portland Farmhouse and Wild Ale Festival celebrates it’s 7th year at a new venue and new partner with Von Ebert Brewing and their eastside location at Glendoveer Golf Course.
