In East African countries including Tanzania, solar energy firm Zola Electric has a solution to power supply that ignores national grids. Instead of connecting solar panel farms to nationwide power systems, it wants to create independent "mini-grids" for villages and other communities. Zola's chief executive Bill Lenihan says we need to "move beyond legacy ways of thinking about energy access, especially in Africa". He adds that in emerging markets, alongside moving from fossil fuels to renewables, people are thinking that having a single energy grid may not work. "Everyone in their minds was saying: 'We're going to build a grid.' Well you are not building grids. One hundred years later in places like Africa people don't have access to working grids, and they are not going to get working grids, because it is a flawed technology for emerging markets. This isn't controversial to say this any more."

South Africa has had to endure frequent blackouts, called "load-shedding", since 2008. This has been caused by its aging, state-owned power grid, and its mainly coal-fuelled power stations, struggling to keep up with demand. To try to help solve the problem, and boost its environmental credentials, the South African government is now continuing with efforts to boost the amount of solar-power generation in the country. To do this it is encouraging firms in the sector to tender for contracts. It currently wants to secure an additional 1,000 megawatts from solar power, enough to provide electricity for approximately one million homes in the country. This is in addition to a desire to boost onshore wind power generation by 1,600 megawatts. Currently only 11% of South Africa's power comes from renewables, and mostly wind. Just 0.9% so far comes from solar, in a country that gets an average eight to 10 hours of sun every day, compared with the UK's four.

Day 5 (?) - Madness

I realised something important while playing this game, in a strange and disturbing way the characters are exactly them.

They could never live together.

So, welcome to a new day!…which starts at midnight.

Of course, when do you sleep? At night? Nooo… night is not for sleeping. Julia works out at the gym, Ivan has locked himself in his room to work on his PC, joining the other inhabitants of the house only when he hears shouting "dinner/breakfast is ready!". Boris gave vent to his fantasies in some online chat by talking weirdly to Julia afterwards….(which sites did you visit?)

Sergey, poor soul, at one o'clock a.m realised that if he doesn't take care of cleaning and cooking they will soon die of some strange disease. Fortunately Yuri took pity on him at least in clearing away the previous day's lunch.

After all, they forced the only university student among them to study at night. How's the nervous breakdown Sergey?

Dinner/breakfast went well and I lingered over the seating arrangement, it is so random and perfect for my sick mind to see how Yuri and Boris always end up sitting next to each other * ^ *

Oh yeah, as soon as the sun came up everyone went to sleep.

Sergey, man destroyed by life in that house.

With the sun high in the sky, Yuri after starting and leaving yet another snowman unfinished (seriously Vladimir, you didn't understand the real talent of these guys), decides to go to Ivan and Sergey's room to make sure that the first guy didn't die in front of the pc and that the second guy has adequate rest by reading him a story (no, he didn't, but in the picture it looks that way so who cares).

At the same time the toilet and sink in the main bathroom break, the pipe to the toilet downstairs bursts. Sergey with a huge smile said goodbye to everyone by running off to the university "goodbye my friends!" leaving Boris with the thankless task of fixing everything (Boris come exactly like this to fix things in my house) and Julia to enjoy the restored service after kicking him out…knitting (oook).

Finally, night falls.

Boris inspired after talking and laughing alone in front of a wall went to paint, Yuri to look at the stars lying in the snow with Julia (I don't have a picture ç.ç), Ivan…I don't know what Ivan was doing because Sergey distracted me. I had left him in front of the TV watching a funny movie and found him angry in the garden about the mistakes noticed in the movie (seriously?) destroying Yuri's snowman. o.o

The cat ran away.

The queen poisoned Snow before she could put it in the oven. That's the real tragedy. I've never had a gooseberry pie, but my dad has a small gooseberry bush that might produce enough for a pie some day.

Julie makes a pie in the opening of the movie while musing about how cooking brings her peace in a chaotic world. I had never had a chocolate silk pie before, but after the movie I looked up a recipe and made it. It's now one of my most requested pies at Thanksgiving. Although I like to use an oreo crust where Julie used a Graham cracker.

(This includes the books as well since I think only the Pumpkin Pasties are mentioned in the movies.) Shepherd's pie is pure comfort food. We aren't really shown pumpkin pasties, but they sound like mini pumpkin hand pies. I saw Binging with Babish make Treacle tart (Harry's favorite) and now it's on my wish list. I just have to order some golden syrup from the UK to make it.

Before I saw Waitress, I had made pies, but I never thought about inventing new pies. Jenna got me thinking more creatively. I've since made my own versions of her Dark Chocolate Strawberry, Chocolate Silk, Spaghetti Pie, and Ham and Cheese Quiche. FYI, one of the pies on the DVD cover has a lazy lattice, and I noticed. 👀

No joke, my therapist recommended this show to me because she knew I loved baking pies. I, of corse, immediately identified with the sad pie maker who was obsessed with making pies as a way to cope. I binged the entire series, then found out it was cancelled, and processed to mourn for the next week. I still want to try to recreate some of their signature pies. The Kiwi Cream is so pretty.

These the first video games I ever finished (my parents banned them so I didn't get to start playing until I was older). The combat still kind of scares me, but I took to the cooking right away. On my first play through, I was so excited to get Tabantha Wheat, so I could finally make pies. Wild's era Link is so much cooler because he's a pie maker. I always keep a few egg custard tarts in my inventory for some quick hearts.
