Esta película cuenta la historia del ilustrador #JohnCallahan, cuyas sátiras políticas y chistes de humor crudo hicieron furor en la década de 1980 en diferentes periódicos de EE.UU. ¿Qué sucede? La película cuenta a través de recuerdos cómo Callahan sufría de alcoholismo y cómo este vicio le hizo tomar una serie de decisiones que terminaron por involucrarlo en un accidente de tránsito que lo dejó lisiado. La historia no es una típica del género biográfico donde el protagonista sufre una cadena interminable de penurias y drama, con una trama real se dedica a contar la vida de este artista a través de sus sesiones de alcohólicos anónimos, cómo se burlaba de su propia situación, aprendiendo que la autocompasión es una manera de excusar los errores, que aprender a perdonar y perdonarse es vital para vivir. La actuación de #joaquinphoenix es impresionante y atenta al detalle, el director logro evocar la cultura pop de esa época. La actuación de #JonahHill es asombrosa.
