Jiminâs Daesang Win â SMF, Pt 2 Connection
Image originally posted by Ask-Serendipity-Sky
Jimin recently won the Fans' Choice of the Year daesang (grand prize) award at the 2024 MAMA ceremony. This award, formerly known as the Worldwide Icon of the Year award, has only previously been won by a group and has been won by his own group (BTS) for the past 6 years. Jimin is the first soloist to win this prestigious award.
The last soloist to win a daesang award of any category, a decade ago, was Taeyang of Big Bang, who fans know is an idol that Jimin admired and eventually got to work with on the successful collaboration song, Vibe, in early 2023. It was Taeyang's first entry at all on the Billboard Hot100 chart, and it was Jimin's first as a soloist - but it was not Jiminâs last solo appearance. He went on to have at least 5 more entries up to this point, including the very first #1 by a K-soloist in history. Since then, Jimin has earned countless other historic and record-breaking achievements as a soloist and is continuing to do so at the time of this writing.Â
It is impressive, and a bit sad, that Jimin earned this fan-voted award while away, serving his mandatory military duty for his country, so he was not able to accept the award in person. He was also not present to promote his extremely successful, current solo album, MUSE, although he worked very hard to leave promotional material behind to be used in his absence. It is also worth noting that all of these Billboard solo achievements were done with very little opportunity for Jimin to promote his work fully - for a variety of reasons.Â
I have often said not to count out a determined Park Jimin. If Jimin makes a plan, envisions a dream, or states a vow, he is one who has shown that he will do whatever he can to try to make sure it comes to pass. With all this said, I think it is a good time to remind everyone of the lyrics of Jiminâs favorite song from his debut solo album, FACE - Set Me Free, Part 2.  (As an aside: I think it should already have gotten 1 billion streams.)Â
While you read the lyrics and rewatch the video, think of all that Jimin has been through and how hard he has worked, which inspired him to make the declarations in this song. Then consider the daesang award he has just received. Jimin truly set himself free and lit his path as a soloist on fire.đ„đ„đ„

There is no denying members like each other and are close to each other... But there are still these things they do that come off as rude there's no other way to see it. I already had a bitter feeling with "I did some lyrics" And "everyone is winning" comment right when jimin won something. But this time it's like there is no hiding for these ppl. I am side eyeing jin too at this moment. What's even more insane is that if rm really wanted to show how disappointed he is with the fandom that he didn't get billboard entry, he should have posted this when JK's never let go , a fan song debuted in hot 100 and not well promoted rm songs, but he decided to do it when jimin started breaking records. It's the same for seven release too, he had all good things to say about 7 when it was breaking records but "everyone is winning these days" when jimin won a music show. It's like when JK achieves something, it's inevitable and that's bound to happen, no questioning, but when it's jimin, starts guilt tripping the fandom lol. The translation tweets quotes are full of pity party as if armys don't usually do it whenever jimin songs do good, now members started adding fire to it.
âHe did it on purpose, that man is active on every social network, he practically watches over them, it's obvious he knows what he can cause with his words, now I see how many are streaming out of pity, this harms him more than Jimin in my opinion. I don't think RM is bad, but he does feel envious of Jimin's achievements, I saw some asking why he doesn't do it when JK uploads something, but come on, what JK does is dirty unlike Jimin and that surely bothers him. I thought he was smarter, after all that Jimin did for him, he listens to him with the purest intentions and he pays him like this.â - #2 anon
I distinctinly remember him doing a live last year saying that he thought what JK was doing with his career was great (and this was after 7 dropped) Then again I donât expect him to go on a rant condemning JK about the fraudulent activities surrounding his charting out loud so đ€·đŸââïž
But it is interesting how some of the members, armys and BH all have the same âchosenâ view towards JK.
With him obviously going to Bang and demanding better promo and radio for RPWP, Iâd say he just wants a chance at substantial commercial success and has blinders on for it. So Bang and Scooter gave him crumbs and he took it. And thatâs why I donât really think he cares about whatâs âdirtyâ from whatâs not or that he prizes Jiminâs means of success over JKâs. (Not that simple radio is in anyway dirty.) Now knowing that the image itself is from last year but he chose to post it now has me looking at him even more sideways though. Because he has consistently been online and the one time he posts during Jiminâs release is to moan about charting again. I donât like that. And Iâve always said heâs justified in wanting his work to do well just like any other artist would, but again the timing was shitty. Cause armys are just using this to further their âJimin is privilegedâ belief and to divert attention from his comeback to other members out of guilt and pity.
And the timing still wouldâve been in bad taste had he done this post when NLG debuted on hot 100 though. Openly showing bitterness towards your team mates success like that especially when youâre the leader of the group would not be a good look at all.
Like OG anon there is love there and history, but with BTS there is such a frustrating lack of support and tact when it comes to certain things especially towards Jimin. It would take absolutely nothing out of any of them to write a simple âall the bestâ or w/e on weverse or a hype post on insta, but nothing. Even Jin gave the most indirect acknowledgment of MUSE with nothing else to follow. The only one who had any real type of well wishes was Hobi. And no one can tell me that Jimin asked them not to make a fuss cause heâs the type of person who loves praise and thoughtfulness from other people. Itâs not about getting the validation either, like at bare minimum yâall are teammates. So the way the bulk of them act towards him just irks me.

Jimin is not being sabotaged by his own label
This tag used to be (mostly) fun and now all I see are large text posts pitting Jimin and JK against each other and, look, itâs not as complicated as many of you are making it out to be, nor is there some grand conspiracy to *checks notes* pit JK and Jimin against each other or *keeps checking notes* a SPECIFIC vendetta against ONLY Jimin, their artist who *scrolls scrolls scrolls through notes* went number 1 on Billboard.
So here is a large text post on the woes of American capitalism (yes. Really).
Hereâs the reality
Billboard DID Sabotage Jimin
Letâs get the big sabotage that did happen out of the way â BILLBOARD (and friends. Will circle back to this) ARE RACIST SNAKES AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN.
Billboard has a history of keeping Black artists off of the pop charts. One example, R&B was largely created as a separate chart to move a category of Black artists from the Hot 100 pop charts. It was a big dealâas (1) exampleâwhen Boyz II Men crossed over to the pop charts multiple times.
And then what happened? The American music industry caught up and started cranking out white boy bands that wrote and performed R&B but. Funny. Somehow it was now considered JUST pop on the H100 POP charts. They werenât pushed immediately to R&B and had to work their way over.
This was considered R&B for the R&B charts that was a âcrossoverâ
And this was considered mainstream pop that needed no crossover.
Yeah, Billboard have always been racist snakes.
So flash forward to 2023. We know they tried HARD to keep BTS from the H100. Going into Proof, BB limited digitals, reduced the weight on sales and upped weight on radio. Why? American music labels can control radio. They cannot control sales and itâs legally far more messy for them to do so.
But then. JIMIN happened.
ARMY got Jimin to H100 #1 with the rule change and the American music industry lost their collective shit.
Why do I say COLLECTIVE and not just Billboard? Well.
This is so essential to the punch line of this rant.
American capitalism only cares about its friends.
What does that mean?
I work in Silicon Valley. You want to know why there is a major diversity problem in Silicon Valley? Yes. There is explicit and obscene misogyny and racism, but the biggest problem is less explicit albeit just as systemic.
White men tend to hang out and befriend other white men already in their âcircle.â When some rich person or VC firmâs buddy is like âhey I need money for this thingâ they are like âyes, of course, buddy, here you go!!â And they get tons of cash without having to prove anything.
I will not say the startup I worked at but itâs valuation was in the billions and their funding was in the billions with NO product built yet. How they got those billions? A well known stunt performer was besties with the then CEO of a major major tech company and he said âhey bestie give my friend over here hundreds of millions of dollars.â And then this startup got hundreds of millions of dollars. Was there due diligence done? Absolutely. But would the CEO of a major tech company give a crap if his best dude didnât vouch for the startup? No.
Humans are extremely relationally driven. Merit is basically bullshit. Merit is so so rarely considered in anything. Who are you friends with? Thatâs how most things are done.
So, Billboard has a lot of friends. Those friends are in major record labels. And those friends only care about making as much money as possible while retaining the status quo.
What goes against all of that? A group of non-white, non-American men that they make very little money from because their label is completely seated in a different country.
So when Like Crazyâa solo record by a Korean artist under a Korean label with a Korean songwriting teamâcomes in and dethrones FLOWERS, Columbia Recordsâ darling for the year (no hate to Miley or the song, itâs solid, love Miley), oh my god were they SEEING SOME RED.
The MONEY they PAID to see Flowers on top of radio, of playlisting, of cultural consciousness and a NON AMERICAN NON WHITE MAN just dethroned that.
My GUESS (I donât know, also keep in mind BTS didnât seem to have the friendliest exit from the Columbia distribution deal) is that Billboardâs BFFs at Columbia threw a fit. And Billboard responded by saying âof course, bestie, weâll remove the problem.â
And there goes 100k sales in the next week. Deleted. Gone.
Who is going to call them on that? Hybe could propose an investigation, sure, but hereâs the thing â itâs not illegal. Billboard didnât break any law. Itâs THEIR completely made up chart that they can change at any time depending on what labels want (this is how Wall Street works too, btw). Everything is made up to appease the same 50 white men. Bleak but true. Music industry is far from the exception.
Okay so moving forward â now we have Jungkookâs Seven coming out. And Billboard a week before release finally decides to tell us the rule they CREATED BECAUSE OF JIMIN (itâs a shitty rule of course but damn Jiminâs power)âD2C sales no longer count.
Jungkoook makes it to #1 anyway because ARMY is freaking amazing AND yes. Yes, Jungkook got more US promotion, help on Spotify, general promo, radio etc than Jimin.
BUT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN BECAUSE BIG HIT FAVORS JUNGKOOK AND SABOTAGED JIMIN
Remember â everything is determined by rich men in power and who they are friends with.
What did Jungkook do? He went to an American producer who is besties with Scooter Braun (Andrew Watt has worked with several of Scooterâs artists including Justin Bieber, namely on Peaches) who has power to contact his besties at Spotify and wherever else.
And what does going to an American producer unlock for Jungkook? A pop track highly likely to do well in America. So then what does Bang PD do? Recognize that because the dude is a billionaire and he likes money and he says (and we know he said this) âthis is going to be a hit.â And there you go, you have the Seven marketing campaign that Like Crazy didnât quite get.
This isnât âoh my god BigHit / Hybe hates Jimin.â This is âJungkoook took an easier, more commercial route.â
If Jimin wants to go get a song like SevenâŠ.he can go get a song from an American producer who is friends with the right people.
Instead he wanted to work on a personal project with Korean producers and itâs amazing and beautiful and also went number one and was also a huge success.
And Jungkook wanted this really great and incredibly commercial pop song.
Both are valid. Both are going to unlock different resources for the artist. And both Jimin and JK know this. They chose what they chose. Thatâs it. End of story.
As for Seven v LC album stockâ stock is highly likely determined by basic predictive analytics models (exponential smoothing, maaybe a regression, maybe even something as simple as moving avg idk). LC was a sizable increase from Astronaut and other BTS singles. So then Seven likely adjusted to that increase. Again. Thatâs it guys. Thatâs literally it.
So can we please have the tag back and stop pitting JK and Jimin against each other and respect that Jimin chose to do a more artistic, personal project while JK (at least for now) did not?
If you want to be mad at something, be mad at American wealthy white men and their friends.

The Grammy's - Part Two
Part 1 l Part 3
The GRAMMYâs.
The Grammy Awards are awards presented by the Recording Academy of the United States to recognise âoutstandingâ achievements in the music industryâŠif you believed what you read on Wikipedia and if you didnât see the artists who had brought exceptional change to the music industry like Lana Del Ray, Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and even Diana Ross.
BTS were included in that list of people who had changed the music industry, had made Billboard change their rules every time they brought out a new single or album, had streaming numbers no one else had and yet for all the Grammy nominations, performances and making an appearance, there was no Grammy.Â
Until they had received a notification from Bang-PD to their phones, though five of those messages had been delayed in getting to their recipients.Â
Grammy Nominations have come through - Grace has got 3.Â
7 Rings - Record of the Year
In My Head - Album of the Year
7 Rings - Best Pop Solo Performance.Â
Each had a different reaction to the news, which was understandable. At first, there was elation over the fact that at least one of them got a Grammy nod, second was amazement that she had scored three big major categories and then worry mixed in with disappointment. Why hadnât they had the nomination? Whether solo or as a group, the Grammyâs had left a bitter taste in their mouths.Â
Namjoon, Yoongi and Seokjin knew Grace would flat-out refuse to perform or even go to the awards. They knew her back to front - her loyalty stood with the group and if they werenât getting a nomination, then neither would she.Â
However, this was a defining moment in her career, their careers, their history and for the country.Â
And for those who knew what kind of start Grace had, this would be the perfect way to celebrate that career.Â
She started as an admin assistant, straight out of school and into employment with Big Hit Entertainment who then saw that she could do ballet dancing, and ballroom dancing, who could sing though that skill was untouched, spoke perfect English, could speak German as well and had all the charm of an idol.
Yet there was no place for her.Â
Everyone knew Bang PD wanted a hip-hop group and thatâs what he started with in Namjoon, then Yoongi and Hobi. Grace was added as a backup for the ability to sing their ad-libs and rap alongside them without any problem. Then along came Seokjin & Jungkook, Taehyung and Jimin and suddenly they were an idol group.Â
A woman shouldnât be doing hip-hop with a boy group and so she had signed a two album contract which had left her on tenterhooks as to whether all the skills she had gained while working with Bangtan Sonyeondan would now be worthless. But along came Skool Luv Affair and Dark & Wild and everything fell into place.Â
Now they couldnât see the group without their eldest member, the only female, their noona. The woman who protected them in every sense of the word and who had always been there for their solo projects and careers. Her own started very late after their military careers had started so she had full reign of being the BTS representative.Â
If her upcoming tour was a testament to how well her solo career had taken off, then a Grammy nomination would just solidify that.Â
Updates were coming in every day and then it was the date of the Grammy Awards themselves. Jungkook, Jimin, Taehyung, Namjoon & Yoongi were given special permission for absence of leave for two days so Seokjin planned a private viewing party just for the boys, their close friends who knew Grace as well and some of their team.Â
Seokjin had been up till late preparing snacks and food as the Grammyâs would start at 10am their time. There was plenty of alcohol covering his kitchen counter and there was food everywhere when Hobi had arrived first.
âHyung, have you been stress cooking again?âÂ
Seokjin paused where he was putting out plates and cups, chilling the expensive alcohol that had been gifted to him by someone and making sure there was enough kimchi in the container. Multitasking at its finest.Â
âMaybe? I canât help it. Iâm nervous, more for Grace than anyone else.â
Hobi sighed, having had the same conversation with every other member of the team and Grace herself. She had massive reservations about attending and performing, believing it all to be a big farce so they could have big viewing numbers.Â
âI know, but noona will be fine. Sheâs a lot stronger than us and a loss at the Grammyâs wonât affect her like it did us. As she said, as long as her performance is killer, who cares.â
Nothing more could be said as the front door opened and the rest of his boys poured through, Jungkook first then the rest following with bags of more food and alcohol.Â
âHow drunk are you all getting?â Hobi laughed, receiving hugs and pats on the back as he looked at the various sized bags that were being dumped in the kitchen.
âIt would have been more but Yoongi-hyung stopped us,â Taehyung shrugged as he dropped his bag and then lifted his arm, flexing it to show off his muscles which caused Jimin to roll his eyes and push at him. âWeâve all got muscles. It hasnât been that long since Hobi-hyung has seen us.â
âAre you feeling okay?â Yoongi and Namjoon asked Seokjin at the same time, causing the two to pause, look at each other then back at their hyung.Â
Jungkook, while looking every inch the military man he had become, had wrapped his arms around Seokjin and pushed his face into his back.
âNervous,â Seokjin admitted while patting Jungkookâs hands. âIâm more nervous for her than about the whole thing. But I know she can handle it. Itâs just a big thing.â
âFor everyone,â Namjoon smiled slightly and reached over to give Seokjinâs shoulder a squeeze, causing the man to squawk at how strong that grip had become. âAh, sorry hyung.â
âCome on, letâs get the TV sorted before everyone else comes. And start cracking the bottles open hyung, let the champagne breathe before we get started,â Yoongi grinned as he took control of the situation, shooing people to start doing jobs.
Even though it was early in the morning and most people had been up all night working, everyone was in bright spirits as the coffee churned. The living room was filled with about 20 people, some on the couch, some on the floor, some on chairs they had brought over. Jungkook had even stolen the spare mattress in the other room and had laid it out on the floor for some.
BTS, however, had taken control of the couch.Â
They barely listened to the people talking on the screen as they all settled down with their various glasses of drink though Seokjin, Hobi and Namjoon had stuck to iced coffee for now. They wanted to be sober enough to get to her performance before drinking any type of alcohol.
Their phones went off at the same time.
âOh my god, look at her!â
Taehyung lifted his phone up and began showing it around to the others. Sejin had sent a picture of Grace between her parents, dressed in her Elie Saab dress and made up to the nines as her father stood in a suit to her left and her mother stood to her right in a gold dress. They all matched perfectly to what Grace was wearing.Â
Messages quickly flew out of good luck, hope it all goes well, kill the stage, etc. None were read by Grace but Sejin sent a thumbs up emoji back with a winky face.Â
There was silence in the room as they watched the red carpet, pointing out the various celebrities they knew of or had met. They had immediately spotted Liam McEwan, one of the reporters who they actually liked. And then they saw Bang PD step out of the car with Graceâs parents, a member of staff leading them past the red carpet and inside.
âHere we go,â Seokjin muttered as Namjoonâs hand squeezed his shoulder again, a bit more gently this time.Â
The noise from the crowd was instantaneous.Â
Hands reached forward for the remote control to turn down the volume a bit as screams were heard, many heads turned as the camera switched to Liam McEwan. âEverybody, Grace Chu from BTS has arrived! The queen is here.â
The boys held their breath until the camera caught up with where it was meant to be, showing Grace in front of the Grammy backdrop, cameras flashing in her eyes as she smiled for the photographers. The dress sparkled each time the camera flashed and then she was moved along, straight towards Liam.Â
âSeee! Told you she could do it,â Yoongi said as he raised his glass of whiskey, not at all a bit tipsy as Jungkook reached over and filled it up for him. When did he get started on that?
âShe hasnât even gotten inside yet hyung,â Jimin laughed, already opening another bottle of champagne as if Grace had already won her three awards and had been crowned Queen of Korea.Â
Seokjin and Namjoon as well as Hobi, the only three who had been determined not to drink until the end, slowly sipped on their iced coffee and laughed as they watched an excited maknae open Taehyungâs bottle of wine for him.Â
âBut sheâs won everyone over! I mean, that dress is amazing on her,â Taehyung said as he stood, pushing over Jimin who spilled himself into Hobiâs lap. Obviously, a career in the military had done nothing to dampen their enthusiasm.Â
Taehyung stood next to the large TV screen, pointing at various parts of her dress. âI mean, itâs pretty low. I wonder who signed that off but either way, she looks amazing. And look! Cleavage! No one has seen noona with cleavage yet.â
Yoongi groaned, covering his eyes. âDonât mention Grace and cleavage in the same sentence. Iâm not drunk enough yet.â
Seokjin hid a grin behind his hand and tried not to chuckle, ignoring Hobi who was cackling into his back and Namjoon who stood ready to defend his noonaâs honour until he was pulled back down.Â
âWhat?â Taehyung asked, grinning. âOkay, okay. But this is history in the making here. Sheâs got everyone eating out of her hand already and sheâs not even inside yet. Is that Taylor Swift sheâs saying hello to? Oh, it's Nicki Minaj. Ah, another collab being set up there.â
âTae,â Seokjin started and threw a napkin at him. âSit down before your eyes turn into the same shape as the TV. Youâre blocking the view as well.â
There were plenty of voices who agreed with him as Tae pouted and sat back down, ignoring the maknae lineâs giggles.Â
The next time they saw Grace was sitting with her parents in the main room, taking a glass of water and gulping it down before Sejin and the Grammy team led her away.Â
âOh this is it,â Jungkook whispered as he somehow managed to squeeze in next to Seokjin. If there were two people in the room who were close to Grace and could feel her nerves from here, it would be them.Â
âLadies and gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to 5-time Grammy nominated member of BTS, Grace Chu,â the loud announcement came.
âOkay. This is it,â Namjoon said as he went into leader mode. âEveryone shut up and letâs enjoy it.â Nothing more needed to be said as everyone went into quiet mode, 20 sets of eyes on the TV that showed a black curtain being lifted as the opening to the Sound of Musicâs âFavourite Thingsâ was being played by a small orchestra, dressed in black dinner suits and dresses.
Jungkook reached over and held onto Seokjinâs hand tight.
Each light in the middle came on to show her standing there, in her blazer dress that was very short but presentable and caused some uproar from the boys the moment they saw it but a quick look from Namjoon and they settled again.Â
Her eyes met the camera as it slowly zoomed in and she gave a small smile as she started to sing, four female dancers walking on stage to meet her dressed in white suits.Â
âMy wrist, stop watchinâ, my neck is flossy,â Grace and Jungkook sang at the same time, though he did it under his breath as he watched the choreography on the TV. By the time the chorus came, the four female dancers spread further apart to allow the seven male dancers to come alongside though they were dressed in matching black suits.
âWearing a ring, but ainât gonâ be no Mrs,â Grace sang as she flashed her left hand, wiggling slightly causing Jimin and Taehyung to giggle.
There were more outrage noises when it came to the second pre-chorus, the female dancers were back as the lyrics âmy smile is beaminâ, my skin is gleaminââ were sung but instead of Grace doing the usual choreography that the boys were used to, it had been changed for American tv.
All five women turned and leaned forward, resting heads on backsides as Grace shifted hands to turn her head towards the camera as she sang the rest of the lyrics, âthe way it shine, I know youâve seen itâ as her hand went down the thigh of the dancer who she was resting on.Â
âI bought a crib just for the closet,â Grace sang as she rightened herself, not paying attention to the crowdâs delighted noises or what her parents were going to think. Right now, it was a cause of getting through this song to get to the rap part and then done.
All dancers were back for the chorus and Yoongi, Hobi and Namjoon shifted towards the edge of the seat. They had seen the many comments around this song and whether Grace could perform the rap part live, since it was so fat, not realising she covered their rap parts with ease when they needed her to.Â
âWhen you see them racks, they stacked up like my ass yeah,â she sang/rapped, turning her body a little to camera to show her hand grabbing a chunk of her backside to match the lyrics. She then fully turned to the camera, the dancers in formation on either side of her as she continued the verse.
âShoot, go from the store to the booth. Make it all back in one loop, gimmie the loot,â she continued as she danced her way through the verse without stopping to take a breath.
In complete jubilation, every single person in Seokjinâs living room sang along with her.
âNevermind I got the juice. Nothing but net when we shoot. Look at my neck, look at my jet!â
âAinât got enough money to pay me respect. Ainât no budget when Iâm on the set If I like it, then thatâs what I get,â Grace continued from where they left off singing.Â
The dancers all left the stage as the orchestra took over the last chorus, letting the song play out once Grace stopped singing. The audience stood, clapping and cheering for her and even though the cameraâs didnât show it, she did a full bow to the crowd.
âOkay, that was amazing!âÂ
The alcohol was flowing now the worst of the nerves were over with and Seokjin happily accepted the glass of wine, Namjoon a whiskey from Yoongi and Hobi a washed down glass of white wine. All seven boys, their close friends and team lifted their glasses in cheers.
âNamjoon, you do it,â Yoongi said as everyone looked to Seokjin to lead the toast.
âOh right,â their leader said as he stood, making his way to stand next to the TV where the awards were flowing.
âWhen I first met noona, I was a shy teenager who had no clue, probably like many of us. She didnât care that I was into hip hop, that I had big dreams and that I wanted to be something. All she cared about was Namjoon - what did he want? And I never knew the answer to that question until the day she and I were out buying plants,â Namjoon paused then laughed when he realised he was getting teary as was the rest of the boys in front of him.Â
âShe asked what I wanted? And I picked up this plant pot because it was cute. And I realised there and then, that all noona wanted from me was to be happy and if a plant pot made me happy because it was cute, then thatâs what she was going to get for me. Seeing her come from someone who didnât know their place in the world to now seeing her up there on the Grammy stage, Iâm very thankful that I have Grace Chu in my life. So fuck the Grammyâs, who gives a shit. Grace Chu just made history!â
Everyoneâs glasses went up with cheers. âTo Grace Chu!â they all said then downed their alcohol in one go, only for glasses to be filled again just as quickly.
There was complete and utter silence when she didnât win Best Pop Solo Performance, though Jungkook could see the storm brewing over his leaderâs head. âNoona isnât bothered,â he muttered as he pointed to her on the screen as she laughed and talked to her parents, completely unbothered by the fact she didnât win.Â
It turned out to be a very long morning as each award came and went.Â
âThe nominees for Record of the Year are,â that sentence interrupted all the conversations in the room, heads turning on a swivel to stare at the screen.Â
BTS turned to look at each other and as if they had the same thought, they each reached over to clasp hands. Namjoon closed his eyes, let out a breath and prayed.
âAnd the winner is,â there was a giant pause and Grace on the screen turned to her mother to say something before the answer was revealed:Â â7 Rings - Grace Chu.â
There was complete and utter pandemonium in Seokjinâs living room. Namjoon had fallen to the floor on his knees, Jungkook on his back. Taehyung and Jimin were hugging each other, Hobi stared at the screen in utter confusion and Yoongi reached over to wrap an arm around Seokjinâs shoulders.
âShe did it, hyung. She actually did it.â
They missed most of her speech, only calming down enough to hear the last part of it.Â
âHoly shit,â Namjoon muttered as he wiped a hand down his face and stayed where he was. Jungkook grabbed hold of his shoulders and whispered hurriedly at him. âHyung, hyung, look.â
On screen, Chris Martin from Coldplay was walking across the stage.
âNo way,â Seokjin whispered as Yoongi grabbed hold of his hand, squeezing tight. If there was anyone who was important to the couple and to the rest of the band, it would be Chris. The fact he was there to present the biggest award of the night was not missed by anyone.
âThe winner for Album of the Year,â Chris paused and turned to look at Grace. âIn My Head" by Grace Chu, produced by Bang PD & PDogg from Big Hit Entertainment. Congratulations.â
There was silence for a moment and then a multitude of noise. Cheers, screams, crying, hooting, laughter and some kind of noise Taehyung had produced at the news. Each man had a different reaction as they watched Grace stand and walk up to the stage, greeting Chris the traditional way before hugging him.Â
They went silent again as Grace started her speech, each of them holding their breath as they were standing. It wasnât missed that she had said her boys, ARMY and her man separately and for her to acknowledge Seokjin like that on American TV was another big moment. Â
Jiminâs phone rang just as Grace walked off stage and he quickly pulled it out, seeing Sejinâs name on the screen.
âAh Sejin-hyung,â Jimin said while he put the voice call on speakerphone so they could hear their old manager.Â
âGrace is just coming backstage now so Iâve got you on speakerphone, one moment.â They could hear the tears in his voice over the noise in the background. âGrace, the boys are on the phone.â
They were all screaming their congratulations on the line and suddenly they heard Bang-PD on the line.
âBoys,â he started crying again. âIâm so proud of you all. So proud. Iâm letting Grace have a moment with her parents but I just wanted to say Iâm very proud of you all. Thank you.â
It was hard to even get their words out but there were promises for a celebration dinner when they got back and Grace would speak to them later once she got back to her hotel.Â
âShe did it,â Namjoon whispered as he saw the notifications on his phone on various media outlets across South Korea and America reporting on Grace winning her two Grammys. CL, IU, TXT and others were posting on their social media, tagging BTS and Grace in their posts. Even Billboard had put up a post.
âShe did it,â Namjoon repeated as he rested a hand on Seokjinâs back and an arm around Jungkookâs shoulders. Hobi joined them at Jungkookâs side, pulling Jimin and Taehyung in and Yoongi joined them by wrapping an arm around Taehyung and Seokjin.Â
Grace would return back to Korea, to them, as a twice Grammy awarded artist. And no one would be able to say that Koreaâs Noona hadnât broken the barrier that they all needed to be broken and no one could say that they as a group and individually werenât leading the way for other Korean idols and groups.Â

Smells Like Steady Vocals and Perfect Pitch
Part 1.
I wrote this on April 5th, 2024 in a fit of rage/inspiration. I wasn't going to post it but I've decided to anyway because I'd like to give a little perspective about why Jimin, out of all the members of BTS, is popular in the US, and why I think he has amazing potential as a solo artist if he's given the right team and tools.
*******
Today is the 30th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's death, so it feels like a sign from the heavens that it's time to write a post I've been composing in my head for months.
So often when I'm on Twitter/X looking for information about Jimin, I see one nasty comment after another downplaying his singing, his artistry, and his talent in general. The phrase repeated the absolute most by the fandom of a particular member is that the reason HYBE invests in one above all the others is because he has the most stable singing voice. And perfect pitch. And the perfect tone for pop music.
Frankly, I get so sick of reading those comments, but I also have to laugh, because it shows such a fundamental misunderstanding of what appeals to music fans in the US/Western countries.
If you open Spotify right now and search for Nirvana, you will see 31.1 million monthly listeners! As a reminder, their last album was released 30 years ago and they only put out 3 major label albums over a 3 year period. Meanwhile, BTS has 28.6 monthly listeners and has a discography a mile long and a career spanning more than 10 years.
Do you honestly think that Nirvana has enjoyed so much popularity over the years because Kurt Cobain had perfect pitch and could sing live? Yeah, no.
I remember where I was the first time I heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit." I couldn't decide if I loved it or hated it, but the song held a strange grip on me. It was sooo different than all the other popular music at the time, even in the alternative scene. It wasn't quite punk, wasn't quite heavy metal. The song was angry and raw, but also oddly charming. But mostly, it was refreshingly different from all the highly produced music that was on radio stations' rotations at the time. Don't believe me? Here's a link to the Billboard Top 100 on the week "Smells Like Teen Spirit" was initially released:
Check out the list and tell me how many of these songs you know. Probably a few, but not many have withstood the test of time (shout out to 3 a.m. Eternal by The KLF, though. That was a fun song).
This was the #1 song that week:
Didn't like it then. Don't like it now.
Now compare that to Smells Like Teen Spirit:
Look at the Billboard list again. Lots R&B (love), dance tracks, a smattering of college radio/alternative tunes, and a whole lot of what we would call easy listening/adult contemporary music. A snooze fest. Nirvana came along at the right time when the American music audience was in desperate need of something more authentic and not so over produced.
Sorry for this long-winded pop music history lesson. Believe it or not, I have a point to make. Americans like a huge range of music styles (as can be seen on the current Billboard charts). We get bored easily. We don't demand a steady voice or perfect pitch. What we want is something new. Something innovative. Something authentic. The biggest western pop stars who have enjoyed long careers in North America know that they must push boundaries and release new, unexpected material in order to stay relevant.
Be it BTS' English trilogy, songs that blatantly emulate American pop singers, or the conveyor belt of 2 minute TikTok-ready tunes sung by Korean girls, so far it doesn't seem like we should expect anything terribly innovative or cutting edge now that Big Hit has morphed into HYBE with its many labels/subsidiaries. Fickle American audiences will move on quickly, in my humble opinion.
One last thing. The US is a huge country with very diverse cultures based upon geographical location. Gender, age, ethnicity, urban vs. rural, and region of the US all influence what people are listening to. What's popular in Atlanta isn't necessarily popular in Salt Lake City, for example. Americans are not a homogenous group and neither is our taste in music.

I bet you're one of those armys who blame the industry for not sending jimin's songs to the EMA nomination the song which achieved much more than TXT's song but of course TXT can get the nomination but jimin can't all because hybe didn't send his song.

***
The first post in my Masterlist is precisely for people like you. People referring to Despacito and thinking itâs perfectly logical to apply a scenario from one artist, in another label, years ago, in another set of awards (VMAs vs. EMAs) to BTS in 2023 with nothing else to go on that could show the same happened with Jimin. These are the kinds of logical leaps that convinced akgaes HYBE was working with Billboard to delete Jiminâs D2C sales, convinced them that Jimin definitely wasnât renewing his contract, and practically every other theory Iâve seen from that faction of the fandom since January 2023. Do yourself a favour and read it.
I donât know if BigHit submitted Jiminâs work for nominations, but I do know the absence of nominations doesnât mean his work wasnât submitted. BigHit submitted BTSâs work for 2017 MTV EMAs and they were snubbed for nominations. Groups like Mamamoo and Gfriend were nominated instead, and no group had a bigger performance in 2017 than BTS. The same can be said for when BigHit submitted BTSâs work in 2018 and 2019 and both times were snubbed for the Grammys and some academy voters flat out said they didnât think BTS got those accolades and chart performances legitimately. We know that Billboard published a hit piece that practically said Jiminâs chart performance was bought with Chinese money, and that NewJeansâ gamed their album to rack up streams. All the artists nominated this year are artists who had their songs sent to radio, and Jimin as we all know, for whatever reason, didnât.
Regardless of what HYBE does or doesnât do, regardless of what Jimin wants or doesnât want, these awards are managed by third parties who have full discretion to toss submissions aside for whatever they think is more legitimate. I want Jiminâs work to be recognized and celebrated, but I also donât actually have all the information, nor am I stupid or blind as to what is not so distant history for how the EMAs have treated BTS in the past. Stop spamming my inbox with your insecurities and anxieties and block me for your mental health.

Article on the single "My Universe" by COLDPLAY â BTS [INROCK (November 2021)]
"A universe created by you and me" COLDPLAY
Feature on the release of the new 'Music of the Spheres'
Coldplay and BTS' first collaboration song 'My Universe' was released on 24th September. It is the first single from Coldplay's ninth album 'Music of the Spheres' (released 15th October), which debuted at No.1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No.3 on the UK Official Singles Chart. It is Coldplay's second No.1 single on the Hot 100 after 'Viva La Vida', and BTS's sixth song to reach No.1 on the Hot 100 in the last year and this year alone. Moreover, this is the first time a British band has recorded a number one song on the chart, and BTS became the first group in history to record five No.1 songs on the chart.
LâR: V, J-HOPE, RM and JIMIN from BTS; Will Champion (dr.), Chris Martin (vo./g./piano), Jonny Buckland (g.) and Guy Berryman (b.) from Coldplay; JUNGKOOK, JIN and SUGA from BTS
COLDPLAY â BTS What we want to tell you in "My Universe"
Rumours of collaboration have been whispered for some time This gorgeous East-meets-West big-name group competition has been whispered about by fans for quite some time. Chris Martin (vo./g/piano) was spotted in Seoul in the spring of this year, and whenever he was asked about a possible collaboration with BTS on his subsequent radio shows in the UK and the US, he was clearly suspicious of the topic. BTS, on the other hand, has long professed to be a fan of Coldplay and covered their classic 'Fix You' at their MTV Unplugged show in February this year. Coldplay, moved by the performance, tweeted "beautiful" in Hangul. In September, with the memory still fresh in their minds, rumours of a collaboration between the two finally became a reality when Chris and BTS performed together in a special episode of the YouTube original weekly music show RELEASED.
Love song Chris declares that "My Universe" is a "love song". The inspiration for the song came from an email he received from someone who wrote the phrase "My Universe". In an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music, he wrote about "difficult love, forbidden love, love that doesn't work" and added: "It felt cool for us two bands to do a difficult but ultimately fulfilling love story together." Chris admits that he was sceptical about the BTS collaboration at first, but "but every time I communicate and play music with them, I feel really comfortable. So I'm unabashedly and unashamedly thankful for this song, I'm thankful for the people who inspired this song, and I'm thankful for the people I'm singing with (=BTS)."
Face-to-face recording made possible by the Corona disaster Chris arrived in Seoul in April this year to record the song, spending two weeks in quarantine and then two days of close studio work with BTS. According to BTS's 'My Universe' documentary, which was released on 26th September, the collaboration had been planned for as long as 18 months before that. JUNGKOOK was delighted to record face to face with Chris, "the King of the Stadium Tours", and RM, who had been intrigued by Chris' personality, said that when he met him in person, he was impressed by his "very humble and personable personality, as I had heard, very pure and without prejudice". They also mentioned that Chris had studied BTS's music and performance in advance and included a dance break in this collaboration song, and that he had depicted a "universe created by you and me" in this song, which is similar to the message BTS has been conveying (in songs such as "Magic Shop"). RM, who wrote the lyrics for the song, revealed, "The target of 'You are my universe' should of course be ARMY (BTS fans), and I wrote it thinking about the day we would meet [again]."
Hologram co-starring The music video was released on 30th September. Directed by Dave Myers (Ed Sheeran, Jay-Z, Pink), it was filmed in RubĂ, near Barcelona, Spain, for Coldplay, and in a studio in Seoul for BTS, against a green screen. The film tells the story of both groups becoming one in a hologram in a universe (galaxy) where music is banned and they are confronted by a giant silencer that threatens their existence, which was also a metaphor for the current times in the form of the coronavirus.
The theme is space The first single 'Higher Power', released on 7th May this year from Coldplay's new 'Music of the Spheres' album, was also initially distributed from the International Space Station, and its music video was set on the fictional planet Kaotica. The emoji titles of the songs on the album also use the space-related ⊔*â§ââ. The reason why space became the theme of the album in this way was that Chris was watching Star Wars and thought about musicians existing in space. When he appeared on the US radio programme 'The Zach Sang Show', he said: "I was imagining all kinds of Spheres (celestial bodies), or Earth systems with all kinds of places and creatures, and I realised that I could be an artist on any of them. When I separated myself from Coldplay and thought that I wasn't even a human being, what kind of music could I make? It was a very freeing experience." In an interview with Zane Lowe, he also pointed out that recent years in particular have been an era of "musical utopia" for artists, where the boundaries between genres and eras have disappeared and everyone enjoys all kinds of music in a eclectic way, and that there was no reason why Coldplay should continue to fit into the usual frameworks forever, so they came up with the novel idea of letting Max Martin take care of the selection of producers. As you know, Max is a hitmaker who has worked on many songs, mainly for pop artists, from the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears in the past, to Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, and The Weeknd in recent years. This is the first time Coldplay, who originally started as an indie rock band, has had him as their main producer. The new album thus completed includes a collaboration with BTS as well as a new song with Selena Gomez, 'Let Somebody Go'. According to The Sun (UK), Chris wrote the song with Selena, whom he had been a fan of for some time, in mind and recorded it in April this year, the same month as 'My Universe'.
Touring with the new album? On 12th October, just ahead of the new release, Coldplay held a release concert at Shepherd's Bush Empire in London. Although they are keen to tour with the new album, they did not tour with their last album Everyday Life (2019) due to environmental concerns, and even stated at the time that they would not tour until they could find a "greener and cleaner" way to do so. Fortunately, the means of it are slowly, if not perfectly, being found, and the band is eager to tour again.

Jimin Set Himself Free & Instantly Made History
The 27-year-old starâs âLike Crazyâ is the first song from any BTS member or South Korean soloist to hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Jimin canât imagine himself happier with any job title other than musician. âI think I would have found a way to be BTS no matter what,â Jimin tells Bustle. As one-seventh of boy band BTS for more than a decade, Jimin captured hearts of the groupâs fans, collectively known as ARMY, with his falsetto, dance moves, and silly antics on the bandâs reality shows.
Now, like his fellow BTS members who have released solo projects in recent months, the 27-year-old is exploring his individual sound on his debut album FACE. Itâs already climbing the charts, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 albums chart; the projectâs main track, âLike Crazy,â peaked at No. 1 on the Hot 100 in April, marking the first time any individual BTS member or South Korean solo artist has topped the singles chart.
Over the course of seven tracks on the physical album, Jimin chronicles his innermost feelings. âAloneâ is a pop ballad about loneliness and isolation, while âSet Me Free Pt.2â is a bass-heavy hip-hop track incorporating a backup choir to emphasize his resolve to break free. The latter songâs darker lyrics feature a curse word so uncharacteristic of his previous solo music it shook Twitter to the core. Itâs also a song where Jimin raps for the first time on a solo track.
Despite this being a solo endeavor, BTS stayed involved in the making of FACE. âI remember RM told me to pour all my emotions into each song. It was very helpful in making this album,â Jimin recalls of the advice he got from the BTS leader, whoâs credited as a songwriter on three tracks. Jimin also enlisted Jung Kook to sing trills and ad libs on âLetter,â a track included on the physical release.
Below, Jimin discusses making FACE, being inspired by j-hope, and buying his idolsâ vinyls.
On Creating FACE & Being Anxious About What ARMY Will Think
What was the most difficult or surprising part about making a solo album?
I realized once again that Iâve been counting on our members more than I thought and how much I appreciate them. In addition, songwriting wasnât easy, but I enjoyed it so much that Iâm grateful to them again for giving me motivation to work on this album.
Whatâs the lyric you love the most?
âI wanna stay in this dreamâ from my main track, âLike Crazy.â
Youâre known to burst into laughter whenever you rap. And now with âSet Me Free Pt.2,â you intentionally wrote a track with a rap part. How are you feeling about fans hearing you rap on the track?
I tried to show various aspects of myself as an artist. I feel a bit shy and wonder how they would feel listening to my rap.
What song are you most proud of on FACE and why?
Iâm proud of each and every song on FACE. To pick one, however, I do feel special attachment to âSet Me Free Pt.2â the most. I loved every step of making the song. For instance, I went to the States to record the choir and it was wonderful to hear them and see the whole process. I believe my fans would think this song best represents what BTSâ Jimin does best.
When you think about your fans listening to FACE, what do you imagine them feeling?
I feel anxious just thinking about it. [The] ARMY that I know would be all ears trying to find out how I would have felt or what I would have thought while singing each song.
On Referencing A BTS Song & Fellow BTS Membersâ Support
âSet Me Free Pt.2â feels like the next phase after âONâ â thereâs even a similar line about âgoing insane to stay sane.â Was it a conscious decision to reference that song?
Thatâs one of my favorite lines from BTSâ songs. I did reference âONâ in âSet Me Free Pt.2â as I was inspired by the line.
Youâre known for being supportive of your fellow BTS membersâ solo projects. You even went to Chicago to support j-hope at Lollapalooza. Who has been the most supportive BTS member so far and in what way?
Actually it was the members who motivated me to start working on this album. I shared the experiences and feelings I was going through during the pandemic and they suggested that I put it all into an album. Iâm really thankful that they listened to me and supported me.
j-hopeâs Lollapalooza stage was just perfect! I was working on my album at that time, and seeing his passion and energy that fills up the stage was very inspiring.
Whose reaction after listening to the album meant the most to you?
One of them said that he hopes this album would be a new starting point for me to grow further as an artist. It meant a lot and I will keep doing my best to achieve that.
Youâre known to be vulnerable in lyrics and concerts, but this album feels a lot more open. Is there any fear of fans knowing you on this deeper level?
The album does portray feelings and thoughts hidden deep inside that Iâve never shown before, so Iâm curious how ARMY would think about the album.
On Listening To Westlife & His Musical Idols
Whatâs the song you grew up listening to that you still know all the words to?
âMy Loveâ by Westlife.
Whatâs your go-to karaoke song?
âAn Old Loveâ by Lee Moon-sae.
Whoâs your current musical idol?
Taeyang and Michael Jackson. I actually bought some vinyl records for the first time only recently from a vintage vinyl store. I got vinyls of Michael Jackson and The Beatles.
What comes first, the melody or the words?
I like writing melodies, so melody comes first.
Whatâs the moment you really felt like a musician?
Whenever Iâm onstage feeling the happiest.
