may i vent for a moment abt my art

the past like month or two have had some of my favorite drawings ive made this year but i still keep going back and forth between liking my art and absolutely hating it lmfao..

i like parts of it but i think abt how in a general sense its felt like i really havent improved in the slightest. i feel like any development ive had has just been so all over the place that it settles more into downgrading than anything.. idk man i just feel like my art should be better than what it is for whatever reason even though there isn't a scale in the slightest for that kind of thing ?

like idk ive just been drawing for so long that it feels like i should be better at it. ive been drawing my whole life basically and it still feels like you wouldnt be able to tell (to me at least). i think a lot of my problem is just comparing my art to other peoples art bc its hard for me not to sometimes..

but also in general i dont feel like theres any real defining factors to my art that make it jump out (again, to me at least) .

So most of the stuff that has come out with the tour I’m fine with. No phones, I’m a little bummed but I do enjoy just living in the moment at concerts.

But holy shit.

The prices???

I saw them in 2022 during regular Imperatour and I got regular GA pit for $90 (maybe 130 with fees I don’t remember) ((also they hadn’t blown up yet so that played a factor in it being cheaper))

Last year I saw them for RE-Imperatour and I got the imperium VIP and it was around $450. But I also basically was guaranteed to get a spot on barricade, got some cool merchandise, my lanyard, got to go through the little ghost museum, and got his autograph.

I paid the same price as Imperatour for the Ascended VIP and sure I get some priority but I’m not sure I’ll be able to get barricade due to apostles and anointed being higher priority, I get one merch item, and a lanyard. FOR THE SAME PRICE.

Like damn. I don’t really blame Tobias, I know the market is shit right now and there’s many factors that have caused things to skyrocket but $650 for the top VIP is nuts. 450 for less than we got last year for the same price is also nuts.

Idk I’m just kind of bummed. Don’t get me wrong I’m SO excited to see them again and I know I’m lucky to see them live. But the VIP really feels like it’s downgraded HARD and it’s barely been a year since the last tour ended. I really wanted to get barricade so I could give one of the ghouls art and now I’m not sure that can even happen.

i cant tell who i am anymore tbh because im constantly gaslit about it and people around me will be inspired by me or claim i was inspired by them even with shit ive always done and it is exhausting. and i see consistency in the way i dress and the way i want to dress and the way i used to dress but what the fuck does it mean. also when i was like 13 and upperclassman accused me of copying them and sure maybe i was inspired by them a but because we were friends and they were older (and also very controlling in a lot of weird ways) but i also already had lots of original interests and influences before i met then but they claimed those as their own as well. now i am still in their radar and they dress or do things in ways now that i do and use to, even when they didnt dress like that yet at the time but i already did. (for ex. they wore like generic twee but i was much more experimental with the way i dressed, wore crazier patterns and colors and silhouettes etc.) but since they were one of the only alternative people in the band they weirdly saw anything alternative as 'their thing'. (she alsso accused multiple people of copying her and was very competitive and manipulative) Also i didnt get to start dressing myself until highschool (which is when i met them) so i changed my style drastically in my first year of highschool since i was finally allowed freedom but this person saw anything interesting in another character as a threat , also she had been accused of copying someone older than her before i met her!!! and tbh i also feel like they were inspired by me after they felt threatened since i dressed more experimental and she just wore kinda basic generic twee stuff idk but they could never admit that and it also causes a lot of confusion within me because im constantly being gaslit about stuff i did first too!! things that were always apart of me! but i am not allowed that security!! also with art!! even tho ive always been an artists and she barely drew until she met me!!! its so stupid this has stuck with me so severely STILL but i cant get over it for some reason and this shit still affects my friendships now. i am very paranoid of friends and have a very low self esteem since i cant proudly display any of my positive attributes without being afraid someone will be threatened by them and lash out against me and also still question if i was too inspired by her or accidentally copy her somehow still even though from an outside perspective we are VERY different but she aggressively highlights the similarities (eg. you read books? thats interesting?,, i read books!! thats my thing!!" even tho in this case ive been a massive book worm since i was a child and she only really got into reasing as an adult -_-) but yeah she fucking sucks but i feel like i lose or admit all the bullshit things she accused me of were true if i block her completely and it pisses me off because i also have a stupid little ego about it and want to get back at her and i want to have a wayy better life that is completely different than hers and way cooler clothes and interests that she couldnt dream of copying or having because i am also crazy. kinda like the " you think im copying you? why the fuck would i want anything you have or be like you?? look at my life!! why would i try to downgrade like that"

It is quite astonishing that still today people will make books and movies based on Greek mythology/ tragedies/ comedies, but i am curious why we didnt produce the same stories later or even now.

Like foreigners will make series,books with examples from ancient Greek literature, but we today don't make that outstanding stories anymore (and Iliad and Odyssey were written like millenniums ago) instead we make copies from other countries or write fast and cheap script for series and it feels like a downgrade :/

This is a topic that normally needs a lot of analysis.

The Iliad and the Odyssey are not conventional stories written by a single man. They are epic rhapsodies composed by countless troubadours (the aoidoi and the rhapsodoi as you may know) and they were based on the already existing legends of the ancient Greek folklore. They are a product of the ethnos, although Homer might have indeed been the guy who wrote it down or added the finishing touches, who knows. So, you can’t really compare them (as well as folk tales, legends and myths of other cultures) with modern-day products of a single mind, like a writer.

The lack of quality in modern products comes from the low budget, the non-existent support from the state and sponsors, the very low salaries artists get in Greece, let alone that any career in art in Greece is not considered a proper professional career and does not earn much respect. Coincidentally, I was watching the interview of an actress yesterday night on TV where she revealed that in other countries with successful cinema and tv, the industries are huge and there are usually whole teams of 7-10 screenwriters working together, adding elements, editing and improving. Greek screenwriters usually work alone, without anyone to support or edit their work, and they have to struggle to convince a producer to invest money on it - producers almost always knock down expensive or too-artistic ideas. Often the director has to be the screenwriter and the producer simultaneously and do everything on their own. Her insight was very interesting as I had never thought of this this way before.

But to be honest with you, I am not all that amazed with foreign scripts either? Don’t you see lack of inspiration in the west too? Prequels, sequels, sequels of the prequels, sequels of the sequels? Victoriana Holmes. Holmes’ sister? Modern Holmes? Future Holmes? Holmes but he is a mouse? Disney where everything is the same but live action? Lotr but for TV? Lotr but Legolas has blue eyes and a crush? Harry Potter but with animals? Harry Potter but the writer is on drugs???? GoT but the writer can’t finish the books so we hired grade schoolers to write the ending? MARVEL superhero number #838292037?????? Even actors have started addressing openly the downfall of cinema in the west. If THEY have a problem, then rest assured we will even more. The scripts are cheapening worldwide. Originality vanishes. Of course the deteriorating condition is slower in wealthy countries with big art industries and big populations but it occurs there too. Also, you make the comparison Greece vs West which is incorrect. You can’t compare the entirety of products you consume from the whole planet with what Greece alone can make. Make a comparison like Greece vs Portugal if you want to be accurate. (Portugal might be better idk, that’s not my point, my point is that this is a correct comparison.)

The 18-20th centuries. Those were the golden age of inspiration in literature and theatre (and later cinema). We are at a time of global depression, except the most powerful countries still try to hide it.

Last but not least, foreign people creating something often ridiculous out of the butchering of Ancient Greek mythology and literature is nothing to applaud or be envious of.

1. i honestly have to guess the reason the anatomy is just SO bad in LO now is that the team gets such rushed sketches from rachel (youd be shocked how many series do this to their teams of assistants) and are on such a time crunch that yeah with a little more time they could fine-tune it to look better but they just go "fuck it" and follow exactly whats on the sketch and it just ends up looking like ... that. its not really the fault of the team but more rachel doesnt give them a lot to work with.

5. the athena/hesita ship is also bad bc theyre framed as hypocrites for not letting the poor straight girl persephone bone her near retirement age boss and theyre just?? stupid?? like they never get rid of their no sex rule? also rachel's past comments of hestia "getting over" being asexual (as if asexuals dont have sex? its a spectrum?) and the fact athena has to look like a Man™️ while Hestia looks like a Woman™️ so it's also a gendered gay ship too. 6. this is such an annoying thing about RS's "character designs" but why do NONE of them have even some distinct accessories to show who they are? Give Zeus a crown of lighting streaks. Give Hera peacock decals on her clothes. Have Poseidon carry his trident on his back. Give Hades a jewel skull tie pin. ANYTHING! The only one who has any is Persephone with blobby flowers which often aren't even there and lack any sort of rhyme or reason to them (other than blue for horny 🤨). It's so lazy!

OH MY GOD YESSSS I'VE BEEN WAITING 12 YEARS  WHOLE SEASON FOR THIS. Persephone's finally getting the punishment for all her deeds(and a pretty fair one, per se), she and Hades will finally be apart and Zeus being an actual ruler who makes big decisions and not some clown. Like yeah, there is also ugly art, plot twists out of nowhere, but this is just season 2 you can't do anything about. All and all this is the best chapter in the season so far, can't wait for LO stans to read it, ooh boy this is going to be fun

What do you think of the films' anthro designs? I find it hard not to cringe at them sometimes due to the excessive detail.

I try to look on the bright side as they obviously look waaayyy better than what we almost got with the abomination that was the early movie Sonic design. I appreciate what Tyson Hesse did but it wasn't hard to make Sonic look better than whatever the fuck that was lol

I'd say that, for the most part, I think Sonic looked okay in the first movie and sometimes cute, even. Though I still think he looks miles better in the drawn art in promo pics and by Tyson. There were moments of closeups of the actual model in the first movie where I felt that the detail was a bit too excessive and realistic but it wasn't too bad.

But Sonic looks worse in what we've seen of the second movie so far for no reason. There's that comparison screenshot of he first movie of his side profile and in the second they've smushed his face in, taking away the slightly longer snout that looked much better. There are also a number of expressions on all three anthros in the clips shown so far that I'm not digging.

I admittedly did significantly cringe at that one picture where Sonic and Tails were looking at a phone together. I know it's not a screenshot from the movie, Idk exactly where it's from, probably some promo/social media thing. But you can see that the eyelashes, lips, and noses on both of them, especially Sonic, look pretty gross there.

I'd say Knuckles has been the best looking so far in the content seen of the sequel because I haven't seen any super unflattering shots, though I'm not the biggest fan of his expressions either. But he still looks cool enough that I'm jealous that my brother's favorite at least actually looks like himself when mine doesn't at all to me. ;w;

Aside from that one shot I mentioned of him alongside Sonic, I don't think Tails looks that bad. They definitely made a good improvement on his design from the little look we got at him in the previous movie and in some shots he looks adorable. But while he got an upgrade, I feel Sonic got a downgrade.

I think all three have the problem of a bit too realistic detail and sometimes bad expressions. Also the way they look so fluffy and soft doesn't make sense as Sonic and Knuckles should really look much rougher and spikier with their prickly spines. Tails is the only one that's supposed to look fluffy and cuddly, that's why he's the cutest. XD

Oh right, and Longclaw, I forgot she existed but she doesn't look like a Sonic character at all and sticks out like a sore thumb in Sonic Forces Speed Battle. XD

But even though I think Team Sonic look at least decent (except for Sonic in a number of sequel pics so far) and like how they look much more like their usual selves than jimbotnik, I still don't like them enough to feel super excited and happy when I see them, as I've found I don't feel for movie universe as a whole. And that's how I know it's just not for me.

I wanna start by saying that I do love all adaptations, so I will do my best just to point out the differences without being partial (too much) for certain plot elements.

It's true that the drama is a neat way to experience the story at a slower pace, but it's so because in a TV series scenario it makes perfect sense for everything to be slower and laid out or fed to the viewer. It makes sense to overextend tender and dramatic moments or to take the time and add a bunch of funny hilarious bits.

The donghua however is absolutely amazing and 100% worth watching. The plot advancing quicker than in the drama or the novel actually makes a lot of sense given, well first this is animation. It focuses on what's really important and the way the action scenes are intertwined with the main story elements is absolutely astounding. In an animated medium they did the absolute best to bring this long story to life. Plus the art is absolutely GORGEOUS, down to every frame. I strongly recommend it.

The manhua does follow the novel almost to the letter which is so refreshing to see and it's so rad to read too, plus I like the art style and also no censorship xD

I love them all because they each work in their own way. Bringing the drama slow pace into the donghua wouldn't work at all as well as making CQL shorter and more action packed would look ridiculous.

Personally I think it's rad to watch them all and gain even more knowledge on an amazing story, by consuming the same story in multiple forms of media.I just think it's great to explore all the angles from which the story can be observed.

Onto a few major differences. I believe this list is far from complete, but I tried to jolt down what I could from memory:

-> Basically the main difference would be Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji uncovering the mystery of Nie Mingjue's death:

In CQL, this was changed from the novel plotline: dismembered arm(+ putting back the dismembered body) of his spirit, to a spirit sword. It ultimately leads to the same epic conclusion as it does in the novel. The culprit is unchanged, just the means to get there and the characters motivations along the way are altered.

-> Another major divergence would be the entire Yi Iron arc and the hunt for Yi Iron pieces, which takes a vast majority of the CQL flashbacks. This isn't present in the novel. The Yi Iron is only important because it practically explains the already existent and yet unpracticed demonic cultivation, which brings me to my next point.

-> In CQL Wei Wuxian is not the actual founder of demonic cultivation. Wei Wuxian still uses demonic cultivation and all his inventions are there, including of course the Stygian Tiger Amulet. The reasoning behind this is the Yi Iron plot I mentioned above, which was something that was uncovered and worshipped in the past and it's a tremendous source of dark energy and power. This leads to the fact that demonic cultivation already exists, despite no one actually using it except for Wei Wuxian (after finding the first piece in the Xuanwu shell).

-> To emphasize more on this, a big part of WWX's morality is altered in CQL. The necromancy part is also heavily downplayed in CQL. We see the same choices being made which inadvertently lead to the same conclusions, but he is always shown as more of a victim of circumstance or there's always a bigger plot at stake, pointing all the blame towards him.

Without going into a character analysis in this arc (because I absolutely adore WWX and I would talk about him for hours) I wanted to point out a few more things on this:

- In CQL he's shown to be in wrong place at the wrong time type of situations, which is sort of downgrading what the original intent behind his character was about.

- I feel like the novel has built WWX to be very self-aware and more realistic and human. He knows exactly where his stands and what his moral compass is the entire time. He blames himself even for stuff out of his control and every decision he ever made no mater how it was perceived as, was all rooted in and filtered through his absolute sense of justice and selflessness. He's aware of his mistakes and assumes responsibility. He's very absolute about the decisions he sticks to and he's extremely intelligent and calculated.

Then again, I'm not blaming CQL per say for altering this, I know every divergence to his character was solely due to censorship (as morality usually is in cdramas), I just wish he'd been given a lot more credit where credit is due, like in the novel. Because he deserves a lot more validation and recognition. Absolving him of everything he ever did is actually a disservice to all the pain he endured and all the work he put into the cause he believes in and simply striving to survive and in the unfair, judgemental cultivation world.

-> The structure of the story is different. The novel, donghua and manhua jump from flashbacks to present time back and forth, while in CQL, episode 3 to episode 33(halfway) are all flashbacks presenting the entire past story arc to you, before returning to the present fully. Again, to have everything laid out in order, works well in a TV series environment.

-> The relationship between WangXian evolves differently. The novel has Wei Wuxian mistakenly concluding that Lan Wangji doesn’t like him, driving a wedge between them after the Nightless City events. This of course, has a beautiful natural progression into romantic relationship, later on after he resurrects.

CQL on the other hand shows Wei Wuxian and Lan Wangji having a very close relationship from the moment they reunite as Wei Wuxian died knowing Lan Wangji cares deeply about him. I believe this to be a bit utopic as, technically without previous explicit romantic affection - censorship -, Wei Wuxian's actions wouldn't normally lead to such an easy transition into them being extremely close, especially for someone as stoic as Lan Wangji. True, Lan Wangji has always believed in Wei Wuxian's sense of integrity and justice and this was prepared beforehand, however it would make even more sense if this was backed, like in the novel, by love as a powerful incentive.

-> Wei Wuxian's reincarnation in Mo Xuanyu's body doesn't cause him to alter his appearance in CQL. This isn't really explained except for subtle hints that Mo Xuanyu took precautions to ensure Wei Wuxian looked like his original self, but ofc we can tell it was done so due to convenience.

In the novel it's clearly stated how Wei Wuxian takes Mo Xuanyu's appearance which makes complete sense to happen after he used the Sacrifice Summon.

This would be about it as main pointers, if you'd like me to go into details for any of them please let me know. Otherwise I feel like this post is already long enough, heheh.

Hi! I'm currently watching word of honor and I'm having a great time, would you recommend reading faraway wanderers?

Hello hello! I definitely do recommend faraway wanderers, but I have to do so with the caveat that some of my favorite parts of the show just... aren’t in the book, which can be a bit jarring if you’re expecting certain beats that never arrive. In particular, the scorpions are a LOT different, there are no notable sidekicks like pretty arhat in the book, and there’s no xie’er (DEEPLY TRAGIC), and the scorpion king is instead a weird gambling addict voyeur man, who is a lot of fun, but gives a VERY different flavor to proceedings than xie’er.

I want to say... Ghost Valley is also a lot more integrated into the show than it is into the book. Most of the ghosts are nonentities, and Luo Qianqiu isn’t affiliated with Ghost Valley at all, so you don’t get her fascinating dynamic with the tragicomic ghost or Gu Xiang. Sect Leader Yu is just kind of a one-dimensional scumbag who is using a woman who has feelings for him and has a talent for disguise. I want to say that ghosts in the book come up more by reputation than they do by actual appearance.

OH, and the biggest difference, Zhou Zishu and Wen Kexing don’t share any past, they meet for the first time when Zhou Zishu is sunbathing and Wen Kexing decides he’s a hottie. I... prefer this, fairly strongly. Their scenes in the show are intense and moving and all, but I like this from a plot-based perspective much more.

So when it comes to those side characters, the book is mildly a downgrade, but on the upside front, the flirting starts from a VERY early point, and goes strong. Wen Kexing is openly super into dudes and wrestles with his feelings not at all, which of course they couldn’t really make explicit in the show, but I find it really refreshing to see it on the page. And it’s a lot of fun, there was one line, something like ‘the man was glaring at wen kexing as if he’d stolen his wife. wen kexing felt very wronged, because as a rule, men did not have male wives.’ He’s having a GREAT time and I support him,

Also, the character notes you get for Wen Kexing in the book are a bit different from those in the show, where I guesssss in the show, they were switching things out for the shidi/shixiong backstory? But without spoilers, I am very, very into Wen Kexing’s personality in the book, the stories he tells, and the nature of his martial arts. OH. And without spoilers, again, I strongly prefer the end of the book to the end of the show. I like em both, but if I had to choose, the book would be my clear winner, for reasons I can’t fully explain without spoilers XD

Kind of long-winded, but yes! I definitely recommend the book. All three translators who did pieces of it did a fantastic job, and the extras are all lovely as well. And it’s much more manageably sized than some of these monsters. It comes in at 78+4 chapters and <200k, iirc. Some of the political maneuvering between sects kind of made my brain glaze over (so many NAMES), but watching the show and getting even VERY vague visuals for everyone involved is helping me follow along much better my second time through. I liked this book a lot!

BUT.

One more thing.

Slightly more hard mode, but something I recommend even more.

Lord Seventh is a book in continuity with this one, which takes place slightly earlier, chronologically. In the book verse, the Prince Jin isn’t still fighting for the throne, that character was already the emperor when Zhou Zishu turned in his letter of resignation, and that’s the central plot of Lord Seventh. This book follows a different character (Jing Beiyuan, who shows up in the show eventually, with his boyfrand Wu Xi), but features Zhou Zishu as a prominent side character, back in his teens, getting embroiled in succession politics. I’ve still got a little ways to go (zhou zishu just helped break his adoring, innocent shidi’s heart, and i need a tiny break), but it gives REALLY excellent context for the mental/emotional place he’s in when faraway wanderers/word of honor starts, and I absolutely LOVE it. Jing Beiyuan and Wu Xi play a fairly important role in the book, and idk what they do in the show, but even though I read it without knowing them the first time around, I’m enjoying it even more now. Even little unimportant details like knowing that their pet sable is WILDLY venomous, it just makes this all a very fun read. 

So that’s where I’m at! I definitely recommend faraway wanderers, but I also recommend lord seventh. They’re both very manageably sized webnovels, and they’ve both been a whole lot of fun.

WHICH LISTEN- I enjoy n love regardless. I just find the contrasts in phases fascinating and funny. I loved his appearance in phases 1 and 2; what a fucking iconic character design. The animation is so endearing and amazing- the thicker lines, the fluidity, the range. Like the first gif that shows the vibrations of the vehicle in his shoulders/shirt? The simplistic art style was nice and even if hes Hard On The Eyes, I'm like 🥴 ok ugly ❤.

Not like the newer mvs are any less quality content - its nice to see the use of thick and thinner lines and there's definitely a different feel to it - more child friendly or easy going? Idk how to explain it. Murdoc as a character is still very, Not Child Friendly, and Im always like :cursed emoji: when someone says that their 14 year old watches their videos like help, his dick is out in at least 3 dif vids (censored ofc but man).

They definitely lost me after the 4th phase though and many people argue that the band/music lost its meaning, which i can honestly agree with (esp when they didnt name officially name 4, 5 and 6. Im p sure ppl refer to 4 as We Are Still Humanz).

I was never an avid/active fan of keeping up with the characters and didnt really think they had any story anyways, i was like "feel good inc is sexy. melancholy hill's a banger" so honestly, finding out that these apes actually have lore was fun.

Murdoc being the given this tragic backstory made my eyes Zoom, and ofc I was like "oh youre funny looking and sad. I want you ♡." In a weird way, I take a lot of comfort that 'we both have shit parents' and 'no one really thought we'd amount to anything'. to be fair, i haven't accomplished anything yet, and even if hes a bunch of pixels who i know doesnt really exist, its kind of motivating bc he never gave up? A literal quote from him being "If there’s a dream in your heart, never let anyone tell you you’ve got no talent. Get out there, embarrass yourself, and prove to the world you’ve got no talent." With how many failures hes faced he never stopped trying to prove himself worthy of attention and fame and love, which is ambitious and kind of intimidating with how much confidnece he has.

Hes a complete bastard of a man and not even close to being a good person. He's definitely complicated but can be boiled down to "just an abusive asshole", which, hey, fair. I hate the way he treats 2D, its so toxic and terrible. Honestly, its inexcusable and he needs to apologize, grow and learn a LOT and god knows he needs therapy.

I think the most tragic thing ab his character is that he basically ended up like his father and to some extent, he acknowledges it. His bad habits and behaviors stem from abuse and neglect which doesnt excuse his actions but, "man hands on misery to man." I feel like theres a haunting part to his whole life - we don't know much about his mother and brother but from assuming things, I know they weren't innocent, clean, or soft spoken, let alone, kind. I think he has a "It runs in the family" mentality and gives into it bc there's no use in running from something so deeply engraved within him.

But as a man of contradiction, hes shown to care, despite "hating everything, including himself". To be short, his father was a failure and a man thats never worked for his own money, so he contradicts that and escapes that part of 'failure running in the family' by forming Gorillaz. I do think theres something way more ab his character in that regard. I think theres a lot that he needs to work on but he's escaped a part of that mindset, and his 'Plastic Beach'. I wonder what theyre gonna do with valley of the pagans thing.

I guess as a band, theyre not gonna show a lot of "behind the scenes" stuff like that. We wont know if he ever gets help, or apologizes, or even feels sorry - its up to us to decide which is a safe game to play on Their Behalf.

People are upset that hes actually cleaned up a bit and is shown to be nicer bc they miss having that disgusting, cruel man which again, I understand. He has always been the antagonist to the entire band. But as someone that likes to see people happier n mellow (or, boring) rather than doing shit and compensating for their depression, its nice to see that type of development (or downgrade, depending on how you see it).

This could be Their (read: jamie and damon) way of being lazy by making him 'mellow out w/ age' or whatever it is. It definitely seems to woobify his character and intentions but well, His Main Goal, Was To Blow Up. And Act Like He Dont Know Nobodaaayyy argargarg and guess what? He's already made it- he's successful, he's rich, he's famous, he's adored. Now what? Maybe this is just his way of taking it easy from here on out - who knows.

Gorillaz definitely took a turn after all the brand deals so it lost its meaning (since one of the phases had a 'fuck capitalism' message) and with that, Murdoc is no longer allowed to be the stank bitch hes was always meant to be, no more obvious sex and drugs, for the new gen 🥴 ironically a lot of songs 'today' are always complained ab being ab sex, drugs, and whatever, but they def needed to step on the breaks when Money/Companies got involved. So here we have The Wigglez 😌💕

I’ve been a follower since your deviantart days and the way you used to draw and compared to the way you do now is such a downgrade .. like all the detail in hair and faces in anime style and blood effects (idk What was up with that toxic yandere phase yikes) and now all your art has same face syndrome and not as much detail at all like what happened

this is what happens when you gotta do like 10+ drawings a day! I’m very very busy and I don’t have time to experiment these days. I think it's important to keep this in mind whenever you have a thought of why an artist does a certain thing a lot. same face syndrome tends to happen when I don’t have much room, and no matter what happens I mainly want to keep characters consistent with their official art, direction or reference that is sent to me, so of course anime characters will look very similar to one another, I don’t disagree with this claim! It can’t be avoided too much, I have much more fun with characters that are drawn with very distinct styles in their work, anime isn't even a style preference of mine. Honestly, I get burnt out pretty often these days..... there are tons and tons of reasons this sort if thing can happen to anyone. I do this full time, though I am looking into making more time for myself. It's harder than it sounds. Art life is hard and time consuming when you cannot take reliable breaks. I know I am capable of much more than what my time allows me.

I disagree with it all being a downgrade, that is your own personal opinion and you are allowed to keep that to yourself, but for me, the way I draw now makes me very happy and I’m super proud of how far I’ve come with it! It still needs some work, though I wouldn't want it any other way than doing this for the sake of my own enjoyment.

Back then I didn't know who or what i was doing with myself, and majority of my style was based off generic visual novel anime style which wasnt at all unique to me as an artist. I messed with a lot of styles trying to find out what direction I wanted to take, and one day I made an attempt towards what you see today and it felt more me than anything else did! - simplistic styles never = less detail either so I really hope you aren’t trying to be one of those guys.

Styles change, artists grow. Who knows what I'll be drawing like in around 7 years from now?

In the mean time, there are still many artists out there who achieve that sort of thing you are interested in, but it ain't for me anymore.

so i’m annoyed stressed upset and every possible negative emotion ever plus i’ve had three cups of coffee and i need to rant so yeah, this won’t make sense, i just need to write my emotions out

it’s - obviously - something important and dear to me. i like the idea of being able to create, to put my ideas into life, to have no boundaries, cause whatever i imagine, i can draw that, there’s no impossibles and no rules, it all comes down to me

i guess i consider art as an outlet. if i’m feeling a certain way, you can bet it’s gonna somehow show in my art, some days more clearly than others, but it’s always there. whether it’s the theme, the colours, or sometimes even i clearly draw something explicitly happy or the opposite, just to let my emotions out. i don’t consider myself an amazingly creative or talented person, i don’t do well with symbolism or metaphors, so my pieces are pretty self explanatory and straightforward, but i don’t really care much, it’s an outlet

i’ve never been a very confident person. i know my own boundaries and i’m not what i’d consider “talented”. but, no matter how good or bad my art has been, i’ve always had a sense of pride and accomplishment when finishing something. the feeling of “i did it” and “i created this out of nothing, i can and should feel proud”

and then, i started sharing my art online

at first, i didn’t really think much of it. i just thought that i’m in a good enough place artistically to show my work to others. any feedback i got, i was incredibly glad and happy and thankful - i still am. it’s a wonderful feeling to have someone genuinely appreciate a creation of mine

but, i guess, over time, i started to inevitably compare myself to other artists. because their work looks so much better, and they get so much more attention, and everyone praises them while me? not so much. and that is incredibly selfish, but??? i think everyone wants to feel appreciated. if you spend a great amount of time and effort on something, you want to be told you did a good job, or that someone likes it, just anything. so, if anyone else does, and you don’t? you must be doing something wrong, right?

and that’s why this website gives me such, idk, anxiety, or worries, about what i do. cause, even though notes don’t speak of your skill at all, i find myself with a subconscious mentality of “if this thing has that little notes, it’s not very good is it” if it’s one piece, then okay, maybe it just doesn’t look good, i can try to do better next time. but if it’s a few, or there’s a visible downgrade in numbers, i hate to admit but i feel bad

i feel genuinely bad when i spend hours and hours on something, put a lot of effort into it, and then it gets little to no attention. i honestly don’t really care about numbers, it’s just that i’ve adopted the mentality that they speak of my skill.

i no longer feel proud of what i make. sometimes there come time periods where i forget i’m supposed to create for Myself. i’ve lost that somewhere along the way, i hate to be a people pleaser but i am, i want to create something that will be appreciated.

i know this comes off very badly, cause honestly, let’s face it - i’m not really good. there’s about a thousand ways in which i need to improve, which is why i hate the way i feel about it. social media is toxic in that regard and i hate the way i envy the attention i really don’t deserve that much.

all i honestly want is to get rid of this. to be able to post my art and still be proud regardless of how many people see it. i want to feel good about myself and about my art, to have a sense of accomplishment not failure.

lately all i’ve been feeling towards my art were negative feelings, and i don’t want that. i want to get this outta my head, it’s the only thing i’m kinda good at and i don’t want my passion to rely on numbers.

it’s something i need to privately work on, and it’ll probably be a long while until i can stop feeling bitter and hateful towards myself when seeing a drawing with just a few notes. i hate to make a post about it, cause i come off as unappreciative - the thing is, i really do appreciate everyone, every reblog or comment. it means a world to see someone excited about my art when i’m in tears about it.

the thing is, i have a nasty habit of being generally negative, and it’s something i need to get rid of cause it’s ruining my ability to create. my hope is that someday i can stop feeling bad just because that and that person liked but not reblogged my art so maybe it looks bad, or this only got ten notes, or this person gets so much more attention so maybe i’m just not good enough

this is in no way a “pls reblog/like my art it means a lot”, more like,,,,, a vent diary entry and just a post that i can hopefully look back at sometime in the future and be able to say that things changed and i’ve gotten rid of negative feelings and i look positive at my art and can honestly say that i’m proud of myself
