just had to say, i loved your tags on that post about the upperclassmen and how they treat kevin/andrew/neil. fandom tends to work on this "they're all assholes" beliefs, and it's not necessarily untrue. but i think people tend to forget just how unlikeable kevin and andrew are from the upperclassmens perspective. i think people also forget the upperclassmen didn't just blindly love neil. for all his faults, like you said, he was pretty chill. he was much easier to get along with and it helped massively that unlike kevin/andrew he actually wanted to make a connection with the upperclassmen.
im glad my tags resonated with you! i have this half-cooked thesis that maybe one day i'll get around to fleshing out about the difference between individual responsibility and collective responsibility that i always think about when i see this conversation pop up--something about how yes, we as a society have a responsibility to people who have been harmed to try and help them recover, but that responsibility doesnt actually apply to every individual person. in this case, the idea that wymack founded the foxes (an institution) in order to help people move forward and build a future doesnt mean that every individual involved in the foxes has to invest all their energy in that same goal. in fact its pretty wild to expect every beneficiary of a service to simultaneously provide it to those around them.
the institution has to be be fair, has to provide help independent of some arbitrary category of 'deserving' but individuals...dont have to do that. every fox signed on to escape their own nightmare, not to help fix the other foxes. the upperclassmen have no responsibility to reach out to kevin and andrew when they have been so hostile in return. wymack has to, because he made a commitment to doing so. the upperclassmen didnt.
and as you said--the question of why the upperclassmen were nicer to neil is straightforwardly answered by he wasnt mean to them. he was sometimes unnecessarily blunt or rude (if we got what we deserved we wouldnt be foxes) but he was also the one who gave them awed compliments when he first started playing with them. he was the one who said we can win this. he was the one who shut kevin up when he started to be negative.
he was easy to like. part of that was intentional on his part--not that he was intentionally being likeable, but he was trying to portray himself to be less antagonistic than he really is. he tells us quite explicitly that he is portraying 'neil' to be meeker than his natural instincts, so he hangs out with the upperclassmen and is mostly at least neutral in terms of social hangouts and when it comes to exy he is extremely positive. and despite his occasional snaps at the upperclassmen, he actually rarely lashes out when its not deserved. his temper is reserved for riko and people who support him. kevin and andrew lash out at the upperclassmen in their own ways, and avoid them in many other circumstances, for reasons that are often obscure without neils insider knowledge. it isnt morally wrong to like someone who is easier to be around.
'why are they nicer to neil' because neil was nicer to them. thats how human interaction works. doesnt mean andrew and kevin didnt deserve help--but the person to provide that was the person who made a commitment to do it, not the people who just happened to be--effectively--their coworkers.
to sum up: everyone deserves human decency from everyone, but not everyone deserves friendship from everyone.
i guess--i dont want to get too antagonistic about this myself, because i actually doubt that many people have super simplistic views on this topic, theres just the occasional oversimplified post that gains a bit of traction. but i do think theres also a very fascinating tendency for people to try and make aftg into a neat didactic story about reaching out to people to understand them because neil reached out to andrew and it worked (and arguably saved both of them). but aftg isnt didactic. its not a prescription for how to behave. its made up. in real life, if i met andrew and it wasnt my job to help him, i would avoid him like the plague. sorry. i love him as a fictional character and i love him because i know his story but holy fuck i would not spend a minute in his company if i didnt have to.
friendship isnt social work. emotions arent activism. the upperclassmen didnt owe andrew and kevin their sympathy or their time just because they were traumatized. you cant control peoples emotional reactions to how they are treated. kevin and andrew treated them badly. neil largely didnt. thems, as they say, the breaks.

I have a complicated relationship with Jiang Cheng.
As a character, I love his complexity, but I especially love how realistically it portrays one of the real-life outcomes of growing up in a violent, emotionally-repressive environment. When every display of emotion is labeled as weakness and answered with violence, some people eventually become programmed to turn any emotion into agression, see everything as an attack, and become secretly-people-pleasers with zero tolerance to frustration.
Actually, the Jiang siblings are excellent portraits of the different outcomes of what growing up in violence can do to you: you either become small and unnoticeable to survive, you become the kindest person ever so no one goes through the same, your self-worth gets reduced to what you can do for others, you go into substance abuse...
Thinking about it, I wouldn't be surprised if MXTX studied psychology in some form because the personalities resulting of her character's backgrounds are surprisingly realistic, for the most part, but back to Cheng-Cheng.
Guy had all the pressure put on him by his emotions-hating helicopter mom. Yanli got a pass for being a woman and being "destined" to be a wife, and maybe Mme. Yu may have projected a little, maybe she thought if she, herself, was sweeter and meeker JFM would treat her better? Idk, but the fact is, Yanli was allowed to not be "strong" ('Cause Mommy Yu is definitely the type of person to equal strength to agression). WWX "didn't count" because he was just a servant, so she merely ground his self-worth into the dirt.
Poor Jiang Cheng had to bear the brunt of his mom's horrible expectations and it broke him. His agression is more like a scared animal's, he lashes out his fear and frustration as violence because it's the only "acceptable" way, the only way he learned to be taken seriously or handle emotions at all. Much like today's wall-punching macho wannabes.
I wouldn't be surprised if Jiang Cheng, in a modern AU, would be sucked into the red pill rhetoric, he's exactly the lonely, stressed, emotionally hurt and vulnerable demographic those jerks target.
So yeah, he is a complex character with very valid motivations and a horribly tragic story handled in a very realistic way, I love that.
As a person, though, I really, really hate him and admit that, at some points in the book I would skip over his dialogue because yeah, yeah, your suffering, your sacrifices, boo hoo, poor you, my god, just shut up, everyone in this place has suffered and lost and is majorly messed up, you're not special! (At least he didn't actively murder anyone)
But I am aware it's because he reminds me, uncannily accurately, of someone who irl emotionally abused me all through childhood while the other adults around me did nothing. They, too, were obsessed with what I "owed" them both literally and metaphorically, and showed their affection with criticism, aggressiveness, and irate explosions. And while I understand them more now and the cycle of violence they were a victim of, I cannot forgive their actions. And I kin Wei Wuxian too hard to ever forgive Jiang Cheng.
But I do like how The Untamed softened him a lot and took care to emphasize that he was just an insecure kid who wanted to be accepted and the universe made him its chew toy. It re-portrayed him as that younger sibling who just wants to be included in his big bro's adventures and keeps being pushed aside by everybody. TU JC is my sweet little baby and needs a hug.
Book JC can go fry asparagus.

OC breakdown — Cinda's ladies-in-training
Writing the next part of my Lyn fic Freedom From, where Lyn is introduced to the first bits of "Lady Life" and the harsh realities of being a courtly woman, its not all just fluff and overindulgences. So, I wrote a breakdown of what I have so far for the other ladies. They are very recent creations, so hopefully I'll flesh them out more as I write them. Always here for suggestions, inspiration and such~
setting: So, I'm thinking that the "Court" life at Casterly Rock has been legendary for centuries, but in this AU Alicent opens up King's Landing wanting the largest court in the known world, so even with the Lannisters serving on the small council, the Westerlands Houses aren't super eager to live down in the capital, so Cinda has taken on a score of women to make smart matches for to show the Westerlands it could be possible as a place to flourish in society. or something like that.
Filippa Banefort, from Banefort, the lands in the Westerlands that guard against the Ironborn from the North.
The Horse Girl-archtype. Banefort's lands are a lovely, small peninsula with great land for horse riding. Filippa would always prefer to be outside somewhere with the animals, animals don't have the same complicated problems of people. Her childhood dream is to marry into a house far far away, so she would always be traveling from one place to another, her dream would be to always on the road. Her nightmare is her future husband locking her away in a tower, and not letting her leave. Her father could be the Lord Banefort, or a second+ son Ser. It would be fun to have him inherit the title in his older years, but he could just be a wealthy landed knight. siblings: the only/one of the only children of her father that looks like him. He was away fighting the majority of her life, and when her mother bore children, father never questioned it. She has siblings that are of different races, but they don't look "Iron Born" so everyone is quietly chill about it. Father is fine with having many sons. Filippa is the only daughter allowed to "go to court" because she looks the part of a Banefort.
"Lady" Bette Harlaw, from the isle of Harlaw in the Iron Islands, a ward of House Banefort after defeating their house in a great sea battle.
The Dolphin Girl-archtype. The water sign. Mermaid coded. She was raised by a powerful mother and father on the Iron Islands, she learned to sail and fight at a young age. She was the eldest daughter. She was young when she was on the ship, her parents said her brothers had already been fighting at the young age. When House Harlaw lost their battle to House Banefort, little Bette was taken as ward to grow up with their daughter, Filippa. Her nickname eventually becomes Lady. She learns to act like a proper lady, even if Filippa doesn't always act like one. House Banefort hates all things Iron Born, so Lady represses her upbringing and embraced all things womanly to please her new captures. Lord/Ser Banefort was always off fighting some war, so she was always at the mercy of Lady Mother Banefort. I haven't thought much about Mother Banefort's personalty yet, it could go so many ways. The Mother Banefort dies when Filippa and Lady are in their mid-teens. Lord Branfort ages, ages out of his fighting and warring ways of youth. He slowly appreciates a slower life at home in his castle in front of a warm earth. In young adulthood, Lady seduces Lord/Ser Banefort and eventually becomes the new Lady Banefort and lives her a quiet life. siblings: she is the eldest girl, maybe second child, but probably third. She has many younger sisters. Some of the sisters are okay fighting and warring, while others are weaker and meeker and need her help to escape them from the terrors of the Iron Island for those who are deemed weak. Mother Banefort will not accept bringing more girls from the family over, so Lady sends them money and help when she can. Cinda probably helped one get married to a seemingly proper Northern man? It's not a perfect marriage, but she's physically safe (outside of childbirth whoops).
Cordelia Lannister, from Casterly Rock, born of the second son of many Lord Lannisters past, he eloped with the love of his life, a distant cousin Lannister of Lannisport, much to the shock and dismay of his family.
The one with great parents. Cordelia's parents tell her that if she ever does anything bad, or is in trouble, or is set to marry a horrible horrible man, her mother and father will run away to Essos with her, and they will start a new life. "I will sell fish by the docks, and your mother will wash sheets," said Tym Lannister, uncle to the current Lord Jason Lannister. "We will find a way to survive," he consoled his daughter after some tragic news. "No, Mother will dance!" Cersillia said, throwing her hands up and twirling around the room, making her daughter smile. siblings: Cordelia is an only child. The relationship between Tym and Cersillia is for laughs at asoiaf incest tropes. So, they married late, probably both's second marriage. The Maesters advised against having children because of their "close familial relation" so they did some christian family planning until Cersillia was "obviously too old to bare children"...they went a lil crazy and had Cordelia. whoopsies. They love her so so so much.
Anna Grace Reyne, fom Castamere for feels. (tw: suicide)
The Emo/Goth-archtype. She had a lovely upbringing at home with her mother while her elder sister was away learning to be a proper lady with Cinda Lannister. Her sister was set to marry a seemingly wonderful man, that Cinda set her up with, she was to be her first great success story. A few days after the engagement was announced, the girl jumped from a high tower to her death. No one really knows why. Anna Grace blames Cinda for her sister's death. Anna Grace was surprised by the visceral hatred shown by her mother and father at the choice of suicide by her sister (who needs a name...). Anna Grace used to love her mother, but then she turned sour and unempathetic, openly complaining about their house's money problems that her sister's marriage could have solved. Anna Grace is fighting against her own happy ending, and happiness of any kind. If she pushes people away, never love again, she will never get hurt. Finding her ending is going to be fun, I picture her in some sort of unconventional relationship that, on the outside, seems like a bad thing, but she is very compatible with and can easily find happiness if she lets herself. BUT could also easily shove everything away and ruin it easily. Any ideas and opinions are always welcome! siblings: she might not have a brother, her father might not have a male heir, which leaves their marriage extremely salty as the years go by. Anna Grace could be the only sibling left, or she might have a much younger sister(s) that she wants nothing to do with.
Heather Oakheart, from Old Oak in northern The Reach.
The Knight Super Fan. Like many girls from The Reach, she is a huge fan of all things Knights and Knighthood. She dreams of one day marrying a knight, but her father seems to want to sell her to the higher (and seemingly most unvirtuous) bidder. She keeps a binder/book of Knight Cards of something similar. She has a great scribe talent, that will most likely never be realized. She is probably the fastest and most accurate hand in Westeros, if only there were competitions for that. She might have a newsletter that she sends a group of Ladies in The Reach. Always up on the gossip of everything everywhere all at once. Heather and Lyn will become quick "friends" because Lyn is personal friends with "Red Ryver" the notoriously brutal Knight of the Northern Riverlands, who's legend/rumors are spreading in ridiculous ways. ((and let's not forget Oswalt Frey's huge hog, which Lyn has seen in person and it causes quite the stir amongst the "properly raised" ladies and tbh it's talked about so so much throughout the story rip)) siblings: Middle Child™ she has two older siblings that are not married to knights, so she's pretty depressed about it. She has two younger siblings that she feels that she is responsible for and always need to set a good example for them...even if they are weeks travel away.

Halloweenathon :Without Warning
So today we are looking at a 1980's sci fi horror film about an alien played by Kevin Peter Hall hunting a cast of notable tough guy actors .....And it ISNT PRedator
Tumblr media
This 1980 film concerns Sandy (Tarah Nutter ) and Greg (Christopher S Nelson ) who have found their friends to have been killed by an alien hunter (Kevin Peter Hall) and team up with an expert hunter (JAck Palance ) to defeat it
So yeah the notable thing about the movie ......It is broadly very similar to Predator ....Right down to having the same actor who played the Predator ,the late great Kevin Peter Hall plays the monster .In fact I am disappointed to say ....The film does not use Kevin Peter Hall well ,as unlike Predator where Hall was a ble to give the monster a personality and a physicality .....He really just stands around.....When hes shown at all .Yeah the alien is the weak link of the film, hes kind of just a tall blue guy with a big head
That said ......I actually really enjoyed this film,I think the relationship between Greg and Sandy is very realistic and their grief is shown .The writing is pretty good ,and the acting is pretty darn good ,with a supporting cast consiting of veterens like Neville Brand ,Ralph Meeker (In his final role ),Larry Storch and Cameron Mitchell ,and I thinjk the two leads are pretty goods.I was particularly impressed by Sue Anne Langdon as the bar owner .Jack Palance is ....Well Jack Palance ,hes tough and hammy as the hunter determined to slay the alien ,hes mostly very good though I did get a chuckle out of him running full force toward the Alien shouting "Alllllllliiiiieeeennnnn!!!!".The scene stealer of the movie is Martin Landau as the crazy ex soldier Sarge ,you think his role is going to be the ignored expert.....But what I love is while ,yes ,he is right about the alien....The guys still INSANE and is wrong about the nature of the alien ,with the expert ac tually being Palance .LAndau understands the assignment "I am the crazy old man in a horror movie and I am going to leave no scenery unchewed ",he makes a for a fun human antagonist ,a threat beyond the alien .I like the bar scenes where everyone discusses the alien its just a nice bit of lfavor I like .Also movie gets brownie points for legit shocking me by killing a character I legit thought was gonna make it
OVerall this is a fun little horror film. Its a B movie for sure but a really enjoyable one ,big reccomend

How do you think Bruce and John's relationship dynamics look from Bruce's side? How did he first realize that he felt something for the Scarecrow? Does he feel remorse for kissing a man who is a criminal? Does he even consider John his boyfriend? And if so, how does he feel at the next gas attack on the city and at the next departure of John to Arkham?
well….
i’ll begin with saying, that bruce is destined to be miserable in my book. always. he cannot have it easy. i love how often he *canonically even* attracted to villains/morally grey people, an’ how it inevitably tends to clash with his hero codex an’ general worldview. that’s a pretty painful existence, really! the amount of ‘self-inflicted’ emotional/mental damage, that some heroes tend to put onto their own shoulders is honestly a wonderment of its own right.
so naturally, when it comes to matters of the heart, someone like batman just cannot have it in a way, where it would ‘work out’. i feel like bruce’s an' selina’s relationships are a prime example of that. aka how he digs ‘bad’ kind of people, even if he knows that it most likely won’t ever amount to any sort of ‘sweet’, domesticated fantasy, that he might be wishing for. an' the thing with bruce is that he’s not dumb, he gets it. even if at first, he tries to deny it, attemtping to seek ways around it, in the end, he has to deal with the fact, that it is what it is. so i think, that at his core, bruce is always going to be conflicted about his ‘taste’, even if it does make hella lot of sense, takin’ in his history. in short, batman having a preference, that would actively make him cucked even from an ounce of normalincy is precious to me.
with this in mind, the dynamic that bruce has with crane is a mixed bag, esp bc he can have slightly different relationships with scarecrow, depending on who he is at the moment. batman or billionaire play-boy. an’ depending on who he is dealing with, crane can also be bolder, more vicious, or actually, meeker an’ less aggressive. like, bruce wayne won’t put his scrawny ass in the dirt, bc it would blow his cover. meanwhile, the bat cannot be too forgiving with jonathan, bc he’s a hero, so it’s almost a rare chance to see how he can influence jon from both sides of the spectrum. an’ it also can show him more sides of jonathan too, considering that in most set-ups *including the ones that i have for them* crane is unaware, that batman an’ bruce are the same man lol. also, it would be nice for bruce to finally have a villain, who isn't specifically in love only with the batman aspect of him.
i mean, it’s kinda given that jonathan doesn’t fully bother with ‘unmasking’ the bat, bc he doesn’t really care who he is. it’s still be batman to him. therefore usually, i don’t picture jonathan’s reaction to the reveal of the bat being bruce wayne to be hella emotional *like in plots, where they’re just enemies*. he prob just be like ‘oh, this kinda makes sense, yeah’. everyone else be bitchy about it, bc how can their batman be some playboy, jock dude lol. jon won't be like that, since he doesn't separate the bat from the man beneath the mask. at least, not to the level where he wants them separated or won't stand those both halves existing at the same time. that’s why the scarecrow is the true one. he’s so needy an’ greedy, that he’d be happy to have both sides of a big bad bat. but back to the main point, i feel like bruce kinda always carries a sentiment of ‘i have to stop you bc it’s my job’, but also ‘i want to believe that you can better yourself’. an’ in cases, like crane’s, batman prob also wants it for jon’s own sake too, considering how often he ends up accidentally hurting or damaging himself.
n’ i feel like it would be even more painful an’ disappointing, if jonathan would still keep up his scarecrow act, while they had smth goin’ on. but such is the nature of jon’s emotions. they’re destructive, when negative an’ there is no reason to assume like his love would differ from his obsession. from how he usually perverse things, it's all the same to him. in a way, bruce be ready for that. he must expect jon’s feeling for him to be feverish an’ kinda extreme' no matter, if said feeling is ‘positive’ or not. i also cannot see jonathan *even if he’s not a scarecrow in some timeline* being normal about batman or bruce, bc he has no idea how to be ‘normal’ about anythin’ lol. bruce is more balanced in comparison, but he also has that odd bit, where he is sometimes more sympathetic to his rogues, than he is to their hostages. in crane’s case, it literally happened at least twice. he nearly killed people, but bruce was like ‘it’s awful that this happen to you, but you kinda deserved it tho’, making the victims pretty confused as to why the bat was more understanding toward his rogue straw-goblin, than toward them. an’ i don’t think, that bruce even always realises that he plays favourites an’ how it looks from the side. so i can’t say, that ‘remorse’ is the right word for what he will feel, if he kisses jon an’ makes out with' him, fully knowing that he’s not a good person. it’s more of a….grief, perhaps? disappointment in himself, mourning for all destroyed lives *jon’s included*, but also umbrage, that he cannot control it or make jonathan stop, unless jon will somehow find it in himself to stop. which is almost impossible. but at the same time, no matter how furious the bat is with the scarecrow, i love how bruce *in older media, at least* cannot bring himself to give up on him.
in general, bruce’s view on crane is an interesting matter. to some extent, he pities him, but he also seems to get angry with him pretty often too. an’ for a good reason, esp since the bat clearly views jon’s intelligence as an admirable thing, but thinks that it’s a true shame how he uses it or for what, rather. this sentiment doesn’t apply only toward crane, of course. a lot of batman's rogues could have done smth good with their talents/knowledge/hacks if they applied it elsewhere. but i feel like on some level, bruce has an easier time ‘relating’ to jonathan, than to some of his other villains. there are dozens of parallels, that they share, but they also have so many things, that make them a great fuel to one another too, both as bruce wayne / jonathan crane an’ as batman / scarecrow. jon is essentially, one of batman’s most twisted reflections. so idk if he will ever like, openly think of crane as his bf, since it almost feels dishonest to call him this. he’s more of ‘the worst half’ an’ bashert in one. but i feel like people would tauntingly, jokingly call scarecrow’s bat’s bf or even gf. bullock surely would have, haha. but like generally, the villains an’ heroes alike tend to be overdramatic about their relationships with one another. their inner monologues are pretty funny bc of that too. like, they’d be in the middle of the fight with said enemy-lover, an’ randomly think of some well-articulated, poetic line, as if they sat their ass down to write it in a personal diary lol. bruce thinking about jon’s ‘awkward grace’ an’ long legs won’t ever be unfunny to me, even if it wasn’t written in a suggestive way.
anyways, i think that all of the above *besides the last part* prob also sums up how i feel batman reacting to jonathan being, well, himself. bruce would expect it. an’ it would sting more, for sure, but i don’t think, that there is any non-nuanced scenario, where batman would for example, just let jon go, bc they’re lovers now. he might be a bit more ‘forgiving’ to scientist aspect of jonathan’s worldview, but it won’t mean, that he’d agree with ‘end justifies the means’ kind of approach, bc he doesn’t want innocent to be harmed / suffer. he also against killing / death, no matter who the target is n’ whatever they ‘deserve’ it or not. they won’t ever see eye to eye on that. but if batman / bruce’s presence in jon’s life will be extended, an’ if he would try to make very little compromises, then maybe, eventually jonathan can be a bit less dangerous for others *an’ himself*. or maybe, he would somehow find a way to make batman ‘worse’. make him join the club, so to speak lol.
like, when people think about the ‘enemies to lovers’ trope, i’ve noticed, that often one side of the ship does a 180 turn, an’ becomes somewhat okay with whatever they were not okay with beforehand. for me, it’s more of a stalemate of sorts. like each side might make some compromises or close their eyes on smth, but not be at peace with it. if we picture crane as suddenly rehabilitated, it’s won’t change the fact, that most versions of him had killed / mentally tortured people. an’ he might or can potentially do this again, even if ‘for a good reason’ this time.
the love can change a lot of things for them, but at the same time, it won’t change certain things at all. i don’t believe that love / deep feelings can cure jonathan’s mental illness. if anything, it would prob only complicate things. since sure, it might make him a bit more mindful about idk accidentally killing someone, bc it makes the bat upset. he might try to be more cautious, but not bc he suddenly cares about lost lives, but only bc batman does. it might be a bit better, than him not givin' a shit at all, but jonathan still be a sociopath, that only kinda cherishes how that one person views him, an’ it'll be the only reason why he would tone smth down. if bruce be like ‘okay, that’s not what i wanted, but i can try to make it work’. i suppose, it might be considered as jon slightly corrupting him as well. besides, bruce will have to pay a lot of attention to him, to keep jonathan in line. gotta like dom him everyday an’ such, just so that he’d be less vicious lol.

Can I request the aftermath of din fucking the rancor + pov switch so we can see what everyone is thinking? 🥺
Unrelated but THANK YOU for having your stuff both here and on ao3...ao3 is down but you're still here so I may yet survive
Pieces on AO3 are more polished and while you can find things here in their rougher pre-edited version, I'm glad they've still come in handy through the intermittent outages!
///
In the aftermath, the Gamorreans are quietly impressed. Jabba used to let his own rancor enjoy those who defied him however the creature liked, whether that meant tearing into an easy meal or, well...
They've never seen a being as small as the Lord's pet take a fully-grown rancor. Nor enjoy it (difficult to tell, all screams sound the same after a point). None had survived without eventually succumbing to significant injury.
The guards grunt at each other, gesturing to where the rancor is still bent on its haunches, Lady Shand and the shiny one lost beneath its shadow. All doubts are clarified. The shiny Mando pet is not human.
They doubt any of Lord Fett's company are. Not that it matters to them, sole survivors of a once hundred strong Gamorrean guard. But to pass under the guise of another, meeker species is an apex style of camouflage: Lord Fett, Lady Shand, and now the shiny one....
At their side, Krrsantan quells their curious exchange with a subsonic rumble in his chest.
He ignores their glance, knuckles sparking as his hands clench and unclench at his sides. It's not that Krrsantan is responsible for Din's welfare. He's not really sure what his role is in this castle-- fight at Boba's side when needed? Be a shield against his enemies?
He's certainly not the head of security, that's Fennec, for the little instructions she gives him and the other guards. She's been distracted ever since Krrsantan brought their new Mandalorian home. But ever since he helped sate Din's appetite in transit and dropped him in Boba's lap, Krrsantan has found himself watching whenever the silver Mandalorian strolled across his radar.
He remembers how feral Din could get. Krrsantan has heard whores described as starving in their desire, but those were all exaggerations until he met Din, trembling and pale, laser-focused on his needs, unlike those glassy-eyed, violent tweakers.
It's not that he feels responsible. But someone has to be.
The one watching Din definitely wasn't.
Fennec surfaces from her feeding stupor with a growl. Something tugs at the meal between her jaws and her hands fasten across steel and armour, clutching tight.
"... nn?"
A weak moan trembles from the one under her tongue and she blinks to clear her vision of the euphoric stars and smears. Dark shadows move above her.
"Fenn?" Boba's modulated voice finally reaches her, and she tilts her head, hearing over-sensitised as all her senses commonly grow in this state. Blood trickles from her chin and she pants hard, fingers moving instinctively to stem the flow at her meal's neck.
Sweetheart. Morsel. No, Din. This is Din.
She presses harder and feels a sting of guilt at the pained whine from their pet, his helmeted head lolling on the stone with exhaustion.
"I'm going to back up," Boba says. "Put the big one in his room. You ready?"
Din barely responds when Fennec nudges him with the nose of her helmet and laving her tongue flat over the fresh bite on his neck.
"Fennec."
She glares up at Boba astride the crown of his prized rancor, thick chains still coiled in his glove. He is a vision that would make her mouth water if the thirst hadn't been slaked. But the beast's eyes are starting to droop and she doesn't want to still be under it when it decides to nap. Fine.
With her chest to Din's back, she wraps an arm protectively round his front and her other reaches down between his legs to clutch at his inner thigh.
The sound Din makes when the rancor pulls out is guttural and wounded and Fennec's stomach drops at the way Din startles alert, scent surging with pain, hands flying up to cling to her.
She purrs and hushes him even when she just wants to drink in the veritable gush of seed that streams from his cunt, unstoppered, knees drawing up protectively as the rancor retreats, and Din is shivering into a ball, whining, and Fennec doesn't have enough arms to wrap him up in the way she wants, she can't do this alone.
"Boba!"
Nobody stares as Boba marches through the halls of his palace with Fennec and her rifle at his heels, they have more self-preservation than that. Curled in his arms, Din is rigid and silent with pain, Boba can only imagine how he clenches his teeth behind his helmet.
It makes his heart pang. He promised to keep him-- them safe. All of them, under his roof. He never thought Din would resort to this.
For the first time in a long time, he's glad he wears a cloak, less for the modesty and more for the comfort it seemed to provide Din once he was wrapped in it, slumping into Boba's chest as he was pulled in.
"The hell were you thinking?" he grumbles under his breath, quickening his pace. Two more flights and then Din will be resting in bacta.
Having mistaken the accusation for her, Fennec retorts, "He was hungry."
He glares over his shoulder at her. "The rancor? The fucking rancor, Fenn?"
A terse beat of silence. "It hasn't been enough for him."
We haven't been enough.
Again, that ugly twist in Boba's chest that makes his stomach swoop. His mouth hardens in a scowl. It had just been a few days, Boba had needed to attend to political negotiations, recon with the water traders, Fennec and Din had their own missions, it was almost a return to how things were before.
This was not the homecoming he'd expected.
"This can't happen again." The rancor was precious to Boba, but it could have killed Din, and then... and then....
Fennec scoffs under her breath. "He doesn't take orders from us."
Boba stops and rounds on his second, watching her body language freeze, primed for whatever reprimand comes next. He watches her for a long moment, sees the moment she softens from living stone, wariness leaking from her edges.
"Maybe he should," Boba says.

Sudden Rescue Mission
(blanket warning for possible fatshaming, and specific warning for grievous injury description)
Why do I constantly harm this boy, I'm so sorry, Deku qwq
---
Within seconds, All Might and the other students have left the basement watch center.
They quickly rush over to the tall pile of rubble, eager to start helping. All Might prepares to call out, but Yaoyorozu's faster, telling everyone that the placement of each concrete slab could shift as they try to get to him. They have to be exceptionally careful, not only to keep themselves from getting injured, but to keep from crushing an already covered Midoriya.
Her reminder is exceptionally sobering, many of the meeker or more shocked students freezing up.
Sato, Kirishima, and Tokoyami help lift and move some of the initial slabs, handing them off to Ochako to make the occasionally heavier ones weightless before handing them to others. Mezou and Jirou use their quirks to listen for him, confirming that he's alive, much to everyone's sincere relief. Asui starts carefully crawling on the concrete to differentiate sturdy from lose ground. Whenever something starts to slide too much or she finds a loose spot, Todoroki and Mineta use their quirks to force the concrete to stick in place.
Each of them put in a cohesive effort to save the boy under the collapsed rubble, to the point All Might finds himself quite astounded. The way Yaoyorozu took the rescue mission lead was impeccable, and she helped everyone find a place to help.
Although...
All Might's gaze turns up to the second floor of the building, where Young Bakugou still stands. He seems to be in shock, having not moved an inch since he went silent. Of course, he probably won't unfreeze until Young Midoriya's safety was fully secured.
As much as he'd like to hurry and scoop Young Midoriya up, allowing the student to continue their rescue efforts is a better idea. They've already started the rubble removal process and, unlike many of his other appearances, a single booming punch wouldn't solve the problem. In fact, it could cause more than fix them.
When he saves citizens from rubble, it's usually in the company of others. Or he swoops in and saves them before the collapse can become more severe.
"Tokoyami-kun!" Yaoyorozu suddenly calls out. "Can your quirk make other shapes made from darkness?"
"Indeed. Dark Shadow revels in the lack of light. It can also get mischievous with strength in the dark...but my control shan't wain."
"Then, see if you can send Dark Shadow into the cracks of the rock and find Midoriya-kun's location! Once found, if you can just make a dome around him--"
The others understood. With a protective dome in place, they could wreck the concrete without worries. All Might also caught on, laughing jovially.
"An astute plan, Young Yaoyorozu! Young Tokoyami, let me know the instant you've surrounded him!"
Asui gingerly crawls out of the way, and Tokoyami nods, summoning Dark Shadow. The darkness forms from where his belly button would be, a bird-like head forming, its face concealed in shadow, save for two glowing yellow eyes.
"He's around this area," Jirou tells him, pointing toward a section of concrete. "He's buried deeply under there, but--"
Then, they all hear a beeping noise. It echoes dimly from under the rubble.
A rescue signal.
"He's conscious," Mezou murmurs.
"Find the one concealed under this weight and protect him."
"Aye!!" the dark bird salutes him before diving into the shadows, spreading out and gaining power in the darkness.
A few moments pass with everyone waiting anxiously. Then, Tokoyami stiffens, his eyes growing wider, his beak shutting tighter.
"Did you find him?" Hagakure asks, clearly anxious.
"...I have. One moment."
But, he appears to not be saying something, shutting his eyes as he gets his quirk to prepare a protective dome.
"...The weight will be...very heavy. Please destroy the rubble quickly lest the dome fail..."
Then, he flexes, the rubble moving slightly as the dome forms. Immediately, the feathers on the back of his head flair with strain.
But not for long.
With a call and a mighty punch, All Might immediately sends the rubble flying off, the force of the wind causing most to break down into smaller stones and rocks. The kids all cluster together, their collective weight keeping them from getting blown away by errant winds on the sidelines.
Tokoyami's Dark Shadow, strained under the heavy weight and now under the wind, pops. The protective dome dissipates as the quirk seems to whine in pain, receding back into Tokoyami.
But Midoriya isn't left alone to the blow.
As if he'd sensed it wouldn't last too long, he already had his shield ready, holding it up as the remaining gusts of wind flush around it.
"Mii-kun!" "Izu-kun!"
The two girls immediately head toward him once the air settles, followed by the others, but they all stop when they realize that something's wrong.
The shield wavers slightly from where it somewhat conceals him. He's sitting on some remaining slabs, ones flat and partially protected by Dark Shadow before the quirk couldn't handle it anymore. But there had been a reason Tokoyami didn't allow all of the rubble to be destroyed.
Izuku lets out a weary groan, then the shield drops, smacking against the ground.
Blood pools under his left thigh, where rebar sticks out, having pierced through one side and out the other. It was nestled right beside his thigh bone, having cracked it.
Every move, every twitch, is agonizing.
Pain rips through his body like razor blades tipped in acid. His nerves scream in anguish as strands of muscle and flesh cling to the steel bar piercing his thigh.
He's broken out in a cold sweat underneath his uniform. But when he looks up at the others, the slightly malfunctioning mask glitches, still showing two closed, happy eyes.
"Th-Thank you... It was r-really dark," he murmurs softly. Then, he turns to look at his leg, finally seeing it in the light. The eyes on his mask glitch open. "Ahh... Uhm, this looks w-worse than it is. Don't worry. I'm okay."
His leg twitches involuntarily, and he stiffens, but the smiling eyes stiltedly return to his mask.
"Uhm... Is...uhm. I'm sorry. Is it okay...if I go to the nurse's office, sensei?"
It's a bit of a blur after that.
All Might swiftly has Midoriya taken away on a stretcher manned by medibots, the rebar still stuck in his leg to prevent further bleeding. He doesn't cry out while having the rebar sawed from the concrete despite it clearly being painful. Instead, he focuses on asking if Hagakure, Iida, and Kacchan are okay.
Hagakure's in tears, but she's otherwise uninjured thanks to Iida. And Iida's also generally uninjured, save for the swelling around his left eye. But that is something he won't need the nurse's office for.
They aren't sure about Bakugou's condition. He still hasn't moved from the second floor.
Midoriya says he'll see them later as he's taken away, thanking Hagakure for working with him.
A few minutes later, they were in the basement of the next building for their exercise. All Might had the footage from the previous round playing on the screens as he seems to prepare his notes.
Hagakure's still sniffling, Iida has a soothing patch around his eye, and Bakugou stands stiff, his right shoulder wrapped with medicine to reduce the swelling and bruising. He hasn't said a single thing to anyone since All Might got him down to join the others.
The mood is, quite frankly, atrocious.
And All Might knows. He already knows he's getting an earful, if not an outright scolding, the instant his class dismisses.
And he'll deserve it.
He thought he should allow Young Midoriya to face some hardship and give Young Bakugou the opportunity to look past his apparent prejudice. However, the assignment ended with his one quirkless student grievously injured, Young Bakugou clearly traumatized, and Young Hagakure and Iida either silent or crying.
With that amount of bleeding, there's no doubt the rebar hit a major artery in Midoriya's leg. The fact the very same rebar blocked his leg injury was likely the only reason the boy survived those several minutes under the rubble.
And yet, he allowed an elementary attempt at rubble rescue. A rescue that, if it had taken too long, could have led to the boy's death. And it wouldn't have been his classmates' fault. No, it would've entirely been his.
But, judging from the still shellshocked expression on Young Bakugou's face, and the overall chilled state of the class, they probably, very likely, would've blamed themselves.
It's...incredibly sobering. He has messed up quite severely on his first day.
He coughs briefly, then turns to the students.
"Now then... For the rest of the team battles today, while I would like for you to be able to go all-out, it's best to act carefully. Consider this exercise a lesson in stealth and quirk control. Get a feeling for what you can do to either conceal the bomb's presence or quietly capture it. And remember. The bomb is very, very sensitive. All future attempts should work around that mentality. Understood?"
"Yes..."
While some students said it quickly, others dragged their agreement. Indeed, the confidence and momentum they'd built up over the last few minutes has been shattered. But class must go on for now.
"Right then. Can someone tell me who won?"
Some of them look confused, turning to each other with questions clear on their faces. Eventually, Asui raises her hand.
"Uhm...can we really determine a winner from that, gero?"
"Yes, we can Remember, there are two conditions for heroes to win. One is to--"
Yaoyorozu raises her hand quickly, her expression firm.
Ah... There's a certain questioning and discomfort in her gaze that wasn't there earlier. Still, she's cooperating in the class, so he addresses her.
"No one won," she answers. And before he has to ask, she continues. "The first winning condition for heroes is to capture the bomb. The second winning condition for heroes or villains is to capture the other team. Midoriya-kun had captured Bakugou-kun around his forearm... Though he didn't honor his captured condition. And Hagakure-chan captured Iida-kun just a few seconds before the explosion.
So, the hero team met the second condition. However, after the point of the explosion, neither Iida-kun nor Hagakure-chan focused on stabilizing the bomb. The first win condition for the villain team was to protect the bomb. When it fell, that would've been a deadly explosion in any case outside of a classroom setting. So, the heroes failed to save the city, and the villains failed to protect the bomb. Nobody won."
"Ah."
...Actually, he was going to say that the hero team won, considering everything after Young Bakugou's explosion moot. However, Young Yaoyorozu makes a good point. If the bomb had been real, neither team would've accomplished their overall goal. One would've won the battle, the other lost, but the overall war was lost by everyone involved.
"...However, if we look outside of the scenario, Iida-kun and Midoriya-kun were particularly exemplary. Hagakure-chan did well to use her quirk to her advantage by hiding her tools, but she gave away her advantage when she made a premature plan that almost caused her to fail. She worked quickly to correct her mistake, and her throw was exceptional. So, I think she had many good parts in her participation.
Iida-kun, whilst acting like a villain, tried to use his knowledge to give himself an advantage. He also made preparatory measures to confront the heroes. However, he couldn't follow through on his villain act...which I don't think is a bad thing here. He could've seriously hurt Hagakure-chan if he didn't stop himself from reflexively kicking her. He couldn't see her, so he wouldn't know where he could kick safely, if he could at all.
Then, after the explosion, Iida-kun made an immediate threat assessment and, knowing that Hagakure-chan is real while the bomb is papier mache, he abandoned the classroom assignment to ensure the safety of his classmate. I think his ability to switch from a villain's point of view to a hero's and act on the tenants of heroics immediately is a good trait to have."
She pauses, the other students watching her as though she's the teacher. All Might sees no reason to stop her, though she is pretty well burning through all the assertions he was going to make.
After a deep, sighing breath, she continues.
"Midoriya-kun's part was also very strong. While he did not contribute as much physically, frankly, his planning was the main reason he and Hagakure-chan were so close to winning. I saw the hand code he used upon initially being confronting by Bakugou-kun--"
"A-And--" Hagakure cut in, her voice wobbly. "He helped me learn my quirk."
The others blink, surprised by this notion.
"Uhm... I always thought my quirk was invisibility. Doctors did, too. But it's actually something like...reflection. And, because of him, I learned I could hide things in my mouth to go completely invisible. With this in mind, I think...maybe there's more things I can do with my quirk."
She perks up a bit, clearing her throat. "And! And he made some verbal codes, too! Something we could say out loud and not be suspicious! Like, uhm, DNC! Divert and capture! It was a code we made in case we had to work alone! He also guessed which floor they'd keep the bomb, and even said he was sure Bakugou-kun would..."
And her mood deflates immediately, the girl falling silent.
"...Yes." Yaoyorozu's gaze lands on the normally rude-mouthed boy. He seems quite cowed, but she decides not to mince her words in the most professional way possible.
"Bakugou-san's explosions, from the beginning, could've threatened the bomb if it wasn't stably manufactured. Still, his attacks on Midoriya-kun also followed through with what one could generally expect of a villain--mainly that they'll attack whoever they think is the weakest link.
However, if he was thinking, he could have found a way to capture Midoriya-kun, then returned to the fourth floor to help Iida-kun capture Hagakure-chan. The conclusion would've been much less hazardous. He was too focused on his prejudice to consider the ramifications of his actions."
There's a few beats of silence, then All Might cuts in, trying to brighten the mood.
"Very good! You said everything, Young Yaoyorozu! So, with that in mind, who would you say was the MVP of this round?"
Kirishima quickly raises his hand, and All Might addresses him.
"It's gotta be Midoriya, right?"
"And why's that?"
"Like Hagakure-chan said, he made the plan and they followed through on it. If not for the explosion, they would've won."
"But, uh...wouldn't it be Iida?" Kaminari asks, sheepishly raising his own after he'd already started. "I mean, like, he protected Hagakure and was kinda, like, the first responder after the explosion."
"I mean, that's true, but if we're looking at it from the assignment--"
"But the explosion was real and Midoriya couldn't really do much about it," Mineta says, his arms crossed thoughtfully.
"He was the target of the explosion! And the building, it collapsed!"
"To be honest, I think I maybe would've died if I couldn't get away and was faced against that, gero."
The boys pause, turning to Asui. She stands slightly bent, her eyes half-closed in worried consideration, her large pointer finger against her bottom lip.
"My quirk doesn't do well against extreme air temperatures, after all. And, we've just started learning how to be heroes, so I don't really know what kind of training's necessary to make me sturdy enough to stand explosions yet. This was just supposed to be training, gero..."
Young Asui makes a point that, overall, helps them breach the subject they danced around.
Young Midoriya's quirklessness.
From Young Kirishima's stance, he focused on the logistical tactics the boy used without commenting on his strength in the situation. While indeed stronger than his partner, Young Hagakure, he was at a standstill against someone much more powerful. And, in the emergency that followed the explosion, Young Iida was more capable in that instance of true severity, as Young Kaminari pointed out.
The situation stated, in those terms, that Young Midoriya could be a hero in theory, but would become a hindrance in practice. That his dream of heroics was possible in very strict settings, but practically impossible.
But as Young Asui said, she likely wouldn't have survived the explosion at all, much less the following building collapse. Midoriya's intuitive equipment and ability to use it allowed him to survive in ways several of the other students wouldn't have been able to. His preparation for unknown circumstances kept him alive in a situation that should've never endangered his life.
They couldn't determine what he would've done had he been in Iida's position. But, based on what he did do as the target of the explosion, he handed it better that others would've.
That seems to silence Young Kaminari and Young Mineta's dissent.
After a moment, Young Hagakure raises her hand.
"I think it should be Mii-kun, too. He helped me with my quirk, made the plans, and he kept himself safe under all that rubble. He also had, uhm...he had tools to make sure someone could locate him! And first aid! So, he was very prepared."
The other students start nodding and murmuring their agreement, and Young Iida speaks up.
"I also think Midoriya-kun did the best he could in this uncontrolled situation."
"I should add an aid kit to my uniform too, huh..." Sero sighes.
"We should probably learn how to do first aid before that, though," Ashido replies, laughing slightly.
"I'd probably end up being the worst at bandaging," Sato agrees.
The mood lightens up a bit, and in the end, they all agree to make Young Midoriya the MVP.
Well, almost everyone. Young Bakugou still hasn't said a word. But he doesn't complain either.
--- ---
As the rest of the class continues, they act carefully against each other. Each team closely discusses the abilities of their quirk and move together when possible.
Battle #2: Uraraka and Tokoyami (H) vs Todoroki and Kouda (V)
While Shouto froze the building after Koji went outside, Ochako had been floating herself and Fumikage so they didn't touch the walls of the building. If not for Shouto's swift freezing attack after Fumikage tried to distract him as Ochako went for the bomb, the latter two would've won.
The MVP would've been Shouto...except flash freezing and warming a bomb so quickly could cause it to set off. So, as a precautionary measure, Ochako took the MVP spot. Shouto looked surprised, but otherwise stiffly said that she'd done well. Though, Ochako admitted that she felt she cheated him out of the MVP spot.
Battle #3: Sero and Aoyama (H) vs Mezou and Mineta (V)
Shouji held the bomb and would carefully move it between rooms during the process. Meanwhile, Minoru set up a defensive line of his hair balls.
Hanta managed to avoid the balls while Yuga got stuck, but the boy did shoot off a warning shot when Minoru tried to confront them and stick them both to the wall. Once at a standstill, Shouji left the bomb hidden in another room and told Minoru to retreat.
As Hanta chased after him, the boy used more balls to speed away, bouncing himself off of them. Just as the tall, tape-user wrapped Minoru with tape, Shouji clothes-lined him before wrapping him with capture tape.
With Yuga immobilized and Hanta captured, it was the villain team's win yet again. The MVP was Shouji for his leadership in the situation, although Minoru was a close second for using his quirk wisely.
Battle #4: Yaoyorozu and Ojiro (H) vs Jirou and Ashido (V)
After setting up a protective barrier around the bomb, Momo Mashirao decided to confront Mina and Kyouka directly. Momo and Mina ended up fighting, with Momo using quickly formed shields to block acid and sticky attacks.
Kyouka tried and failed against Mashirao's hand-to-hand combat skills, though she yelled out the location of the bomb so Mina could try going for it.
Mina attempted a swift escape to the bomb room, covering herself in acid so capture tape couldn't wrap around her. But Momo had anticipated this, using a cannon to fire flour at Mina, causing her acid to clump and stick together without the usual sliding effect.
She fell face first to the ground, and after Momo wrapped her in capture tape, she did first aid on her to make sure her nose was okay.
Of course, the MVP was Momo.
Battle #5: Sato and Kaminari (H) vs Asui and Kirishima (V)
Eijirou went in with the intent to cause damage, though substantially less than Bakugou had. As he caused a ruckus, Tsuyu found and slipped into the vent system.
Sato beefed up and went to confront him, though he couldn't punch through Eijirou's hardiness. Meanwhile, Denki stayed with the bomb, ready for an ambush...
However, the game was already over by the time he heard Tsuyu croak.
She'd opened the vent in the room and held onto the grate with her tongue so it wouldn't clang. Then, crawling on the ceiling, she made her way to the bomb and landed on it. Due to her stealth and teamwork with Eijirou, Tsuyu was the MVP. Besides, Kaminari was probably the worst person to leave to protect a bomb, considering his quirk.
With everyone finished, the students relax, happy that no other serious incidents occurred during their lesson.
"Good work, everyone!" All Might bellows. "You all did very well! We'll be practicing on using your quirks wisely and knowing your limits! Remember, you have many friends on your side to cover your weak points! For your first full training exercise, you all did wonderfully!"
Then, he turns away, his smile imperceivably tighter than before.
"Now then, I'm going to share the critique with Young Midoriya, so get undressed and return to your classroom!"
And just like that, he jets off, feeling the strain of his weakened quirk pulling at him, demanding that he deflate. As he leaves, though, he glances back, seeing the still-silent Bakugou stand like a ghost amongst the others.
That boy's ego is quite huge, he thinks, but the walls of his heart are fragile! He needs immediate counseling, but right now, I can't! I'm almost out of time from class alone!
He just barely makes it back to the staff changing room before he deflates in a puff of hot smoke. All Might coughs into his fist, blood speckling his fingers.
Ahh...he's really running out of time. He's holding on for as long as he can, but ever since he's passed the torch, the embers he's holding onto are getting weaker. Just a few months ago, he could last for three hours. Now, he was working just above two hours of heroic activities a day, and he'd used one on his way to work.
So, no more All Might for today, huh...
Toshinori sighs, sagging against the door. Then, he picks at his outfit, once form-fitting, but now hanging off his thin body like loose skin.
"...Alright."
He sits up from the door and heads to his changing locker, pulling out a nice suit. He might as well wear something nice before he goes to get the life chewed out of him.

The nature exhibit only has two 'sections' that get repeated throughout the whole area. Lucky for me because the Idols painted over part of it in the first few pictures I took.
Anyway, transcript under the cut so you don't have to read this with the abomination of a text background choice.
First Picture:
Owls & Wolves & Bears, Oh My! The Incredible Diversity We've Lost
Second Picture:
The animal represented on the seal and logo of Santo Ileso is the Reciprocating Owl. Now thought to be extinct, the last Reciprocating Owl seen in the wild was in 1927, in what is now the former Scorpion Automotive plant.
Like most owls, the Reciprocating Owl was a predator. However, they were known to hunt in packs, making them one of the most dangerous birds found in the American Southwest. A parliament of Reciprocating Owls could take down a horse or, according to some reports, a human being. It was also said that the Reciprocating Owl would echo the cries of its fellow parliamentarians. These cries would come, surging together with increasing frequency as the owls honed in on their prey, until at last, in terrifying harmony of inescapable hooting, the owls would strike…and a silence even more terrifying would fall.
Perhaps their extinction was no great loss.
Third Picture:
[I accidentally cut this off. will fix it later.] To Scarcity? The Loss of Santo's Killer Wildlife
Lieutenant Jedidiah Meeker was a surveyor, a naturalist, and a great outdoorsman in the U.S. Army Corps of Topographical Engineers. He served in the United States and Mexican Boundary Survey expedition between 1848 and the Gadsden Purchase of 1854. He mapped the area we now call Kavanagh County.
Everyone has by now heard the story of how Jedidiah Meeker was saved by the 300 year old ghost of a Spanish priest - Saint Thomas Corvacho, or "El Santo Ileso." Corvacho himself had died near that very spot near Panther Rock, where wild animals tore him to pieces.
This incredible story is memorialized in the "The Meeker Shall Inherit," the Broadway musical inspired by Meeker's life.
Some would argue that stories about ghosts have no place in a museum of science. Maybe those people should have written a bigger check to the museum's capital campaign.

Happy Storyteller Saturday! Which of your characters is the least like you and why do you like them despite your lack of similarities?
Thank you for the Ask, @lassiesandiego!
I'm one of those writers who likes to say that most of my good characters have a small "piece of myself", except for most villains of course, as it makes writing them much easier and allows me to understand their motives better!
That being said, I would say that, out of all my main WIPs, the characters that are the least like me are: Azra Moorsworth (The Last Wrath), Faellyn Ellara (Tales of Wilted Flowers), and Clarence Van Sterlling (Enchanted Illusions).
DISCLAIMER: What is listed under "differences" is merely a comparison between my characters and my own personalities. Neither traits are "right" nor "wrong", as I am simply stating the contrasts between me IRL and the characters I have created for my stories! (:
Now, as for why they're so different from me and why I like them despite the personality differences!
AZRA MOORSWORTH -
(Differences) - Azra is much meeker/insecure than my personality - he prefers to avoid conflict (by "conflict" I don't mean fights, but facing challenges and things that get him out of his comfort zone), and is much more extroverted than me - I could never dream of reaching his level of extrovertedness. If we were to use the Enneagram to define this difference in personality, Azra is a Type 4 (the Individualist), while I am a Type 8 (the Challenger), having fundamentally different outlooks as well!
(Why I Like Him) - Azra is an incredibly positive character, especially when it comes to cheering others up and making sure everyone around him is having a good time - traits that I aspire to try and improve in my personality as well. He is also selfless when need be, despite all his fears, personality and instincts telling him to run the other way he chooses to stand for what he and his siblings believe in if that is truly necessary, despite the dangers and cruelty of the world he lives in. He is, fundamentally, a cinnamon roll, and one of the purest characters in TLW when it comes to a moral compass - I can't help but adore him!
FAELLYN ELLARA -
(Differences) This is a curious one, as she does share similarities with me, but not nearly as much as the other members of the main cast. I would say that the main difference between her and me is that Faellyn is incredibly forgiving - even when she should not be, too forgiving for her own good - and has a patience level that I aspire to have one day. Believes in the best in other people, even when other people have proven her wrong. Her Enneagram is Type 7 (The Enthusiast)
(Why I Like Her) Honestly, what's not to like? She's sweet, funny, bubbly, and has a great sense of justice! Despite being impulsive and reckless at times, she has an ongoing drive to do what is right for others, especially for those she cares about. She has a big heart, and is almost always the smile in the room! She's diplomatic and intelligent, as well as tricky when it matters. I also find it incredibly endearing and satisfying to write and show how much she grows throughout the story, becoming more mature and wise without losing the merciful and sweet side that makes her who she is.
CLARENCE VAN STERLLING -
(Differences) While I am somewhat introverted, I would say that he is 1000% more introverted than me. Clarence is very quiet, preferring not to talk as much, and liking extended periods of being by himself - while, in comparison, I am very talkative to those I consider my friends, and don't quite feel comfortable in extended periods of solitude. Another key difference is that, due to his vampiric upbringing, Clarence is also very naive/sheltered as to the ways of the world, being almost (if not completely) clueless as to how the human world and its inhabitants work. Clarence is firmly an Enneagram 1.
(Why I Like Him) He is very endearing and polite, and despite not really understanding all the new human things surrounding him he tries his best not to be rude or scary towards anyone, despite having the ability to do so. Clarence is also intelligent, wickedly clever, and something of a prankster if given the chance! Honestly, writing about him navigating the human world with the help of his newfound friends and his sorcerer girlfriend, is one of the most adorable things I have written!
I hope this answers your questions! (:

IF YOU EVER FUMBLE JUST REMEMBER IT COULD BE WORSE BECAUSE I AM LIVING THAT REALITY
ohh OHHHHHH i must put this here so i can hopefully put this OUT OF MY MIND FOR GOOD this is the most insane story i have ever put on my tumblr blog...... i went to a party my friend hosted and said friend has the COOLEST HOUSE & COOLEST PARTIES EVER I LOVE THEIR PLACE AND THEIR FRIENDS AND THEM SOOOO MUCH so i was super excited to get invited again && it was so lovely everyone was so happy to see me which i was surprised about & i brought some drinks and a big chocolate box (i cannot drink alcohol) and it was sooo chill and epic. me and a few other people got on a couch and were playing mario kart and smash poorly. and i was curled up nezxt 2 the hottest pre-t trans chick EVER oh my god oh my GODDDD and her hand was resting on my knee and the way she was holding her beer bottle between her legs was making me go FUCKING INSAAANNEEEEEEEEEEEEE it felt crazy to be like crushing on someone for the first time in so long it was like a brand new feeling it was excited and uncertain and nice. i had been sucking on her hhc vape as the night had gone on every once and a while like im not a smoker nor vaper so i was just like yea && then also when we were gaming i took an hhc gummy from someone else cuz FUCK IT WE BALL i just wanna rlx and have fun with every1 im tired of being SOBER!!!!from all substances
well the night goes on and its past 3am so i get my jammies on (awesome hello kitty fluffy xmas pj bottoms & cool black graphic tee & fluffy hello kitty boot slippers) and we are all still hanging out albeit scattered a good few ppl have gone home and the rest r scattered around .... i sit on the couch again with the super hot chick and its just me and her and she asks me about wat i was saying abt my rel8nship status earlier and i explained im not rlly in anything rn &when she asks me my heart is pounding for some rzn....she gets closer and puts her hand on my leg again and is talking real quiet and i cant even remember what she siad but our faces got closer and closer and my voice got meeker and meeker until our lips met and it was like fireworks went off like O.M.G. it was the most awesome thing EVER and it gets intense so we go out the back to the greenhouse (its more like an awesome tiny dark glass room lounge with long comfy chairs and low lights) and suddenly im on top of her and i feel my tongue against her teeth and im literally trembling i cannot get enough and i fall deeper and deeper into her and for a moment i feel as if my questions have been answered that YES ecstasy is REAL....shes marking up my neck and whispering deranged shit into my ear and i can feel her getting hard underneath me and i can't think & once or twice i had to stop because i was so dizzy from it i couldnt see where i was or if i was gonna fall off and i was just going crazy internally.it was the most amazing thing ive ever felt ever
THEN SHES LIKE do you wanna go back inside WITH AN INSANE IMPLICATION THERE and im like UM OK YES YES ABSOLUTELY and she skips into the kitchen for a split sec and im sitting back on the couch 4 a sec and my head is like...SPINNNING. like it feels like im being spun violently in an office chair but im sitting still.....then my heartbeat gets louder and louder in my body & my face goes numb & my eyes roll back into my head.and my heart is going like 200+bpm and i call out while the world is fizzing away from me 'i think im having a heart attack'
well.
i dont remember much but i remember convulsing and my legs being so exhausted but shaking thru it & every time i stopped talking i nearly saw myself float away from a grey fuzzy outline of my body and i was terrified if i let go then that would be the end& so i just kept talking but i kept making sounds and repeating syllables and going in and out and i couldn't see no matter what & seconds turned into minutes & i heard an AED assessing me & then my whole body was quivering again & i remember blinking in the back of a pleasantly dark ambulance i could see tall cold trees out the tiny back door window & i remember an unfamiliar voice yelling at me to snap out of it and get on with it & calling out my name and address once or twice& then i woke up and i was in the hospital
apparently you are not supposed to take 2 forms of hhc at once .... i was given like 3L of fluid and i was able to open my eyes now but only see for a split moment before it would go again & i caught my mom beside me twice and it was the most incredible feeling when i was able to fix my gaze on her and she wouldnt go away........they gave me a shit ton of benzos and after a long time i was awake and aware enough to start feeling the mortification set in....i was drunkenly explaining to my mom what happened who scolded me , perhaps i explained a little too much but alas , and i was so UPSET I THOUGHT I HAD COMMIT SOCIAL SUICIDE...NO...SOCIAL HIROSHIMA & THAT I WOULD NEVER GET INVITED TO ANY PARTIES EVER AGAIN & most importantly THE GIRL. FUCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK
when i was finally completely aware again the discharging dr said to me she sees it at least once a week where someone my age comes into the hospital with synthetic cannabinoid toxicity, has a bit of a seizure, goes into a coma for a few hours, wakes up and is then fine....so that is wat happened to me most likely. and that i shoud be fine but to not mix different routes of hhc again and that id be high for like a day or 2 afterwards. i went and picked up my stuff from my friends place and they were just really happy i was ok and safe but i FORGOT MY FREAKING COAT AND GLOVES(NEW EPIC SKELETON ONES)AND ITS BEEN THE COLDEST WEEK OF THE YEAR and im too embarrassed to ask to come get them again because i dont want2 come off as too messy and never get invited to anything ever again.but i got everything else and in the days that followed people from the party cmae up 2 me on campus and were asking if im ok now and every time someone asks me about it i learn something new about the whole thing ... the saddest was when i was asked who rosie was because apparently i cried out in the middle of it all 'rosie i understand everything now im so sorry' ......... really sad stuff.and also apparently i whistled for a solid few minutes.wtf
soooo ya....since then (that waz last saturday) i havent been able to STOP. THINKING. ABOUT. THAT. GIRL. O. MY. GOD. the whole experience was thebest thing ever and every time i think about it i get weak.....getting marked up by her was so insane and i wanted MORE i wanted everyone to see i wanted everyone to KNOW i want it SO BADLY but now im afraid will she do anything again with me.??????i texted her 2 let her kno im sooo sorry &explained that im safe and fine now (cuz she goes 2 the other college in the area so i cant rlly c her in person) and i couldnt think or focus so i said to her how incredible it was &&she said she was sorry if she lead me on by mistake cuz shes not looking for anythitng atm BUT SHE DIDNT LEAD ME ON!!!!!!!!!!IM NOT LOOKING FOR ANYTHING EITHER SO WHAT IF NOW SHE THINKS SHE MESSED WITH ME AND SHE CANT PLAY W ME AGAIN IM SO SCARED THAT I MESSED EVERYTHING UP SO BAD SOOOOOO BADDDDDDDD OHHHH MY GODDDDDD I WAS ABOUT TO SCORE SO HARD AND I HAD TO HAVE A FREAKING SEIZURE I AM SO MAD AND UPSET AND EMBARRASSED AT MYSELF OH MY GOD AND ITS ALL MY FAUUULLLLTTTTT but not rally & if it was any1 else id feel nothing but concern 4 them and relief that they r ok so i hope its the same with every1 there.and her especially.cuz OGMGMGGGGMMMGGGGGGGMMGMGMFMFGGGGGG
so.that was my week. its been 7days i cant stop thinking about the whole thing and her and i cant focus at allll in lecturessss i have 1wk of lectures left 4 tha semmy but i need to LOCK INNNN but im so desperate to go out and party again .... that was the 2nd party i got invited 2 by that friend the 1st one was for halloween & this 1 was a welcome-home-party 4 another friend who had been abroad for a little bit.so i really really hope they do something for xmas or new years like if they dont im going to tear my hair out ofmy FUCKING SKULL because i have so much fun at their place and i want to help clean up and set up and i want to tell them just how much i appreciate them and their little parties cuz they really r such highlights for me..........and im so grateful that their friends have adopted me and like theyre all such good and genuine people and ugh i cant dothis anymore im so scared i ruined it all i CANNTNTTTTTTT

First, there was the original The Blob (1958), covered by Decades of Horror: The Classic Era #123. After that, there was the sequel, Beware! The Blob (1972), braved by the Grue Crew in Decades of Horror 1970s #63. Then came The Blob (1988), an updated retelling of the original as imagined by Frank Darabont and Chuck Russell and discussed by a previous 80s Grue Crew in Decades of Horror 1980s #126.
Finally, the current 80s Grue Crew, having some contacts in the effects community, decided to do a deeper dive into The Blob (1988) with a focus on the film’s effects work and enlisted the aid of effects artists Jeffrey S. Farley and Ralph Miller III who worked on Lyle Conway’s blob crew. Ralph shares several mechanical devices used for blob manipulation and stories of the hard work put into the film. Jeff focuses on his work on The Blob, occasionally wandering to other aspects of his career, including Abruptio, his current release.
At the time of this writing, The Blob (1988) is available to stream from Peacock, Paramount+, PlutoTV, and multiple PPV sources. It is also available on physical media as a Limited Edition Steelbook 4K Ultra HD + Blu-ray and as a Collector’s Edition [4K UHD] from Scream Factory.
Every two weeks, Gruesome Magazine’s Decades of Horror 1980s podcast will cover another horror film from the 1980s. The next episode’s film, chosen by Bill, will be Cannibal Ferox (1981), directed by Umberto Lenzi with special effects by Gino De Rossi. Yup. It must be time for a film initially banned in 31 countries.
Please let them know how they’re doing! They want to hear from you – the coolest, grooviest fans – so leave them a message or comment on the Gruesome Magazine Youtube channel, on the Gruesome Magazine website, or email the Decades of Horror 1980s podcast hosts at [email protected].

so last night i figured out why i and many others just don't like the owl house and i don't like numerous of its main characters and ships.
let's start with individuals first;
willow. so many people dont like willow and for good reason. she is written HORRIBLY.
the story introduces her as 'half a witch', that shes inept at magic and super weak, that everyone bullies her and looks down on her.
except literally none of that is true from the get go. from that very first episode.
she has a little breakdown and explodes in anger, almost killing luz in a show of power, no one besides amity and boscha do anything to her (and in later episodes no one but these two do anything but worship the ground willow walks on, clapping when she does basic spells and always oohing and aahing as she walks by), and the principal openly praises her at the first sign of her passing.
in further episodes not only are the crew forcing her into grand shows of power, but they have her be extremely over confident in ways that does not fit with where she is in her character development. for example, when she literally RIPS HUNTER FROM THE SKY AND THREATENS HIM TO JOIN THE FLYER DERBY TEAM, AND when she backtalks to the teacher who is directly in charge of her team being a possibility. that's just arrogant and careless behavior.
everyting we know about willow is only TOLD to us and then directly contradicted by actions and behaviors shown to us.
ok now on to lumity. I love lumity, don't get me wrong, i cried so hard during the grom episode because an openly same sex couple being the protagonists of a disney show???? unreal!
but the problem is that lumity is equally as forced as willow being powerful and confident and a girlboss (which is the entire archetype the writers desperately forced her to fill).
amity is aggressive, near derogatory, and in an extremely toxic headspace from all the pressure of home and school. her first interactions with luz are her trying to get luz literally dissected, punishing king just to get to luz, trying to kill or seriously injure luz during the witchs duel, and trying to outright ban luz from even attempting magic.
and then an episode later amity is getting wobbly knees and writing love letters to luz, and an episode after that they're basically together. it's insanely rushed and completely forced. there is no natural progression. there is not 'enemies to friends to lovers' there's barely even an enemies phase. it's straight to lovers bc god forbid the chemistry actually develop naturally.
huntlow is all of my previous critisms of willows character combined with the fact they completely undo all of hunters EXCELLENT writing and character progression to make them kiss like fucking barbies.
hunters attraction to her comes out of nowhere and when you consider the fact willow is turned into this arrogant show off who explodes in anger and nearly kills everyone around her multiple times???? it is not good and never WOULD be good. hunter has been through enough with arrogant show offs exploding in anger. his whole life was spent with belos doing the exact same thing. they also make him so much meeker and helpless in order to make willow look more badass and girlbossy--further showing just how actual shit that pairing is.

STEM Spotlight: Putnam City program helps students pursue careers in aviation
The program is helping to address a workforce gap in the industry
Updated: 4:23 PM CST Mar 6, 2024
STUDENTS UP FOR SUCCESS FOR A CAREER IN AVIATION. PUTNAM CITY STARTED THEIR AVIATION PROGRAM IN THEIR HIGH SCHOOLS LAST YEAR. IT’S FOR STUDENTS WHO WANT TO BECOME PROFESSIONAL PILOTS, BUT ALSO AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS. IT’S ALL ABOUT CREATING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEIR FUTURES, WHATEVER IT MAY LOOK LIKE. OH. OKLAHOMA NEEDS MORE WORKERS IN THE AVIATION INDUSTRY. THE MECHANICS. WE NEED PILOTS. WE NEED DRONE. WE NEED EVERYONE OVER THE NEXT FIVE YEARS, THERE’S EXPECTED TO BE A GAP OF MORE THAN 100,000 PROFESSIONAL PILOTS AND AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE TECHNICIANS ACROSS THE COUNTRY. THE PUTNAM CITY AVIATION PROGRAM IS HELPING THAT WORKFORCE GAP. THE PROGRAM IS IN ITS SECOND YEAR FOR SOPHOMORES THROUGH SENIORS. WE HOPE THAT EVERY SINGLE ONE OF OUR STUDENTS WILL HAVE BE INVOLVED IN THAT WORKFORCE, WHETHER AS A PILOT, WHETHER AS A MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN, WHETHER AS A DRONE PILOT STUDY STUDENTS LEARN THAT YOU CAN FLY AND CHOOSE AEROSPACE CURRICULUM, BOTH STATEWIDE PROGRAMS THAT MAKE CAREERS IN AVIATION ACCESSIBLE AND THE PUTNAM CITY AVIATION PROGRAM INTEGRATES FLIGHT SIMULATIONS INTO THEIR TEACHING. SO IF THEY’RE LEARNING MAINTENANCE ON GROUND OPERATIONS AND HOW TO TAXI AN AIRCRAFT ON OR OFF OF RUNWAY OR START UP AN ENGINE, WE CAN EASILY USE A FLIGHT SIMULATOR TO SIMULATE THAT ENVIRONMENT FOR THE STUDENTS, WHETHER THE STUDENT PLANS TO BECOME A PILOT BY EARNING A COLLEGE DEGREE OR GO RIGHT INTO A FLIGHT PROGRAM, THE PUTNAM CITY AVIATION CLASSES TEACH THE STUDENTS WHAT THEY NEED TO KNOW IN AEROSPACE BEFORE THEY GET THERE. WHAT WE LIKE TO DO HERE IS CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS. AND SO WHEN WE CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR STUDENTS, THEN IT’S UP TO THEM ON WHICH PATH THAT THEY WANT TO GO. THE LAKE HEFNER MEEKER JUST LIKE ELI BATS, A SENIOR AT PUTNAM CITY NORTH, I CAME INTO HIGH SCHOOL AND A PROGRAM OPENED UP FOR AVIATION. SO I JOINED THAT. AND THEN, YOU KNOW, IT’S LIKE THIS COULD ACTUALLY BE SOMETHING THAT I WOULD WANT TO DO IN THE FUTURE OUT OF APPROXIMATELY 100 STUDENTS NATIONWIDE, ELI WAS SELECTED FOR THE U.S. AIR FORCE RECRUITING SERVICES AIM FLIGHT ACADEMY TO GET A STEP AHEAD IN HIS PATH TO BECOME A PILOT. THEY HAVE TO BE STUDENTS THAT ARE INTERESTED IN FLYING, BUT MAY NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES TO START FLIGHT SCHOOL. ELI’S GOAL IS TO BECOME A COMMERCIAL PILOT OR EVEN JOIN THE AIR FORCE AND THE AVIATION PROGRAM AT PUTNAM CITY NORTH HAS GIVEN HIM THE SKILLS HE NEEDS TO PURSUE IT. THERE’S A LOT OF THINGS YOU THINK YOU KNOW BEFORE YOU GET INTO A PROGRAM THAT’S ALL ABOUT AVIATION, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LOOKED INTO AVIATION AND STUFF. BUT THERE’S THERE’S STILL LIKE SMALL THINGS THAT YOU PICK UP ON, LIKE EVERY DAY THAT’S LIKE, OH, I DIDN’T KNOW THAT FOR THIS WEEK’S STEM SPOTLIG

Been wondering
Why is it, that even if I recognize some piece of media is of quality, and on top of that I enjoyed said piece of media, I inevitably find myself with little to no investment in its continuation or its current status quo.
I began thinking about it, because on top of the few things coming out that are good and I like, I find myself more and more jaded with regards to even a good, thorough roasting. “Yeah, that went deep on why this is horrid, but since I didn’t watch it myself, this is probably the furthest I’ll go into interacting with the piece of shit, and won’t even bother coming back to this bonfire either”.
And I think this is because something being quasi-unanimously considered good/bad doesn’t do much to captivate interest. A dialogue is required, on any topic, to get to the meat of the matter. Taking the piss, that’s one thing, because you’re going out of your way to mock the material at hand; but a full analysis can only take you so far. Whether it’s for something that’s good or bad, you need pushback, you need arguments to address, be them strong or fucking retarded and delusional.
I have a strong feeling that this is why I simply do not care about making fun or breaking down why MCU sludge or Star Wars trash are terrible, because the more time goes on, the meeker the defense force and less investment there is from die-hard fanatics to damage control for each atrocious new entry in these clusterfuck franchises. There is no fun to be gained, if you’re only going through the motions. And the same applies for something that is good and gets very little credible pushback on why it isn’t. Not only that, but the test of time makes it so that, inevitably, a consensus will be solidified, and only new information can alter it.
In contrast, I think this is why both The Last Jedi and Joker kept themselves in the public dialogue and spheres of media discussion for so long. There was such a divisive, clashing debate for either, that everyone was trying to set up the best possible arguments for why their perspective was accurate. Putting aside any mud-slinging, TLJ being an abomination of cinema while Joker managed to be a modern masterpiece with such contrasting public perceptions depending on whom you asked, which kept the conversation going and hooked your interest, even if you didn’t like either.
There’s only so much that can be done without external influence. Regardless if you’re talking about good or bad media, inevitably, you’re going to need honest pushback (even if inaccurate) to compel interest in your breakdowns. After all, if I’ve no investment in the source material to begin with, and it somehow keeps going despite how bad it is, what would be my motivation in the conversation.
