re4r leon s. kennedy x m!reader
request: none
synopsis: After finding yourself stuck in a closet with Leon, you end up squirming just a little too much.
a/n -> i have fallen victim to the leon lover rabbit hole. ALSO. I FUCKING FRACTURED MY FINGER??? guys i almost cried when i had to write the word balls. </3 but thank you all for 1k followers! tbh i only started this acc because i liked the font when i wrote something in my drafts lmao. but still! it means a lot to me and im happy to have gotten this far!
wc -> 2.5k
cw -> thigh fucking, hiding in a closet, spit as lube, handjob (r receiving), pet names (baby x2, sweetheart x1), he's kinda possessive tbh, not beta read
This was supposed to be relatively simple: get in, figure out where the president's daughter was, save her, then get out. Sure, you've seen your fair share of weird shit â especially after the outbreak in Raccoon City, but finding out that there was a whole religion dedicated to spreading a plague for the sake of taking over the world definitely takes the cake. For now, at least.
But finding yourself cramped in a closet with Leon, surrounded by a horde of hostile cultists, also wasn't something you expected to happen throughout the entire mission.
"Stop moving so much," Leon quietly muttered from behind you just as you shifted.
"I'm not," you huffed, a bit annoyed that you had to hide in this stuffy closet, even if you knew that you'd probably be dead by now if it weren't for your partner's quick thinking. Against his words, you adjusted yourself again, trying to find a decently comfortable position. Suddenly, you felt his hands on your hips and the warmth of his chest pressed to your back as he pulled you flush against him.
"I said, stop moving," he repeated, whispering in your ear. You held back a shudder at the feeling of his breath ghosting over the shell of it, stilling completely in surprise. Just then, thunderous footsteps could be heard outside the closet; slowly, listening for any sound that might reveal where the two of you hid.
You tensed and instinctively backed up to further yourself from the perpetrator, even if there wasn't much room to move to begin with. You could faintly hear Leon grunt from behind you, but you were in no position to apologize at the moment. Your eyes were glued to a crack in the old, wooden door, watching as the light shifted when the person passed by.
You waited with bated breath, hoping that it wouldn't come near. But, like some cliche horror movie, you could see the light at the bottom of the door disappear, meaning it was far too close for comfort. With every second the person stood there, the tighter Leon's hold on your hips became. The two of you went so silent your ears rang, and you were briefly afraid that it'd hear the sound of your racing heartbeat.
But after what felt like an eternity, its heavy footsteps started up again and away from the closet. You heaved a sigh of relief when the front door slammed shut, rendering the building empty once more.
"Fucking hell, sorry," you mumbled, trying to shuffle forward and give Leon his space when you realized that he hadn't let go of you yet. "You okay?"
Using the dim light that filtered through the cracks in the door, you lifted your arms a bit and curiously peered at his hands. But that's when you noticed the black lines covering his arms. Upon closer inspection, you quickly realized that they were his veins.
"Christ, Leon, whatâ"
"Be quiet. Justâjust for a second."
You found it hard to tear your eyes away from his arms, waiting in silence. You focused on the sound of his labored breaths, biting your tongue to keep yourself from questioning him even further. Your mind couldn't help the invasion of 'What happened?' and 'What is that?' that threatened to spill from your lips. How did you not notice this earlier?!
You were pulled from your thoughts when you felt him rest his forehead on your shoulder, muttering and grunting under his breath. And that's when you felt it â the reason why he was so reluctant to move just yet: he was hard.
"Oh." You couldn't help it, even if he had already told you to shut your mouth twice already. The silence from then on was painfully awkward as the two of you tried to figure out what to say. With a deep breath, you miraculously found the courage to speak up.
"Do you... Can I help you?" You offered, remaining still to keep yourself from accidentally pressing yourself up against him again. It was silent while you waited for his reply, embarrassment wriggling its way through your chest the longer the two of you kept quiet.
"I mean, you don't have to accept, you can just ignore meâ" you began to ramble on, mortified that you even asked the question. "I just thought, cause, like, it'll be hard for you toâshit, I didn't mean it like thatâ"
"[Name]," Leon interrupted you, finding your instant silence charming in its own way. You could hear him take a deep breath in just as his hands slid further up to firmly caress your waist and abdomen. Electricity shot down your spine and pooled in your gut when he tugged you closer to him, grinding himself against your ass. "You can."
He reached for your hand and brought it behind you, placing it directly onto his cock. You gave it a tentative squeeze, savoring the quiet grunt that came from him, feeling your confidence grow by the second. You heard the gentle jingling of his belt as he undid it just enough for you to dip your hand underneath the waistband of his pants and boxers.
"Not wasting a second, huh?" Amusement and lust were laced in his voice as he spoke, a quiet moan spilling from his lips soon after.
He was hot and thick in your hand, throbbing rhythmically. You swiped a finger over the tip that beaded precum, savoring the shudder that came from his body. His hips trusted up into your fist, seeking more, and you were more than happy to oblige.
With a steady pace, you moved your hand up and down, tracing the prominent veins. You felt your own cock twitch at the sound of Leon's breathy groans and sighs, but you ignored it in favor of getting him off.
"Fuuckk," he drawled out, leaning forward to press his lips on the side of your neck. "You're good at this. Makes me think you've done this typa thing before."
"No," you responded, gently rubbing the spot on the underside of the tip. "You're the only one."
"I get the special treatment?" He muttered teasingly, his breath hot against your skin. "Must be my lucky day."
He could feel his body buzzing with adrenaline as he peppered open-mouthed kisses on the side of your neck, untucking your shirt to slide a hand up your torso to pinch and toy with a nipple. His free hand traveled lower, slipping his cold fingertips underneath the waistband of your pants, but refused to go further than that.
You could feel his lips curl in a subtle smirk, but even as you realized he was teasing you, testing your patience, you had no intention to retaliate. Christ. The hold this man had on you. It was downright pathetic.
"God," he started, pressing his palm flat on your chest to bring you closer to himâeager for more of your touch. He let his teeth gently scrape against your skin, threatening to biteâto mark you, but he forced himself not to. He couldn't. Not right now. "I want to fuck you so bad."
His words were breathless, borderline desperate, as they left his lips. He couldn't help but thrust his hips up into your fist, pushing and pushing until your hand was flush against your ass, keeping you from jerking him off as he rutted against your hand.
"We can't, Leon," you muttered, disappointment lacing your voice. As much as you'd love to have him inside you, fucking you deep, you knew you couldn't. Not when the Ganados were still outside, at least. "Just let me finish you off."
Leon let out a low growl, knowing that you were right. There were a lot of things the two of you couldn't do inside the confined space of the closet, forcing him to conjure up ideas of what he wanted to do when all of this was over.
But for now, he settled on the second best option: your thighs.
"I know," he murmured, breathing in deeply as he pulled your hand away from his throbbing cock. "Then let me fuck your thighs. I'll be quick, I promise."
You mulled over his words, unsure if it would be a good idea.
"Please, baby," he pleaded, his voice heavy with lust. "Just this once. Then, when we find Ashley and get the hell outta this place, I'll make sure to fuck you properly. Nice 'n hard 'n deep. Wouldn't you like that?"
Fuck it.
"Mhm, yeah, go ahead." You relented, knees weakening at the thought of having his thick cock inside you, stretching and filling you up perfectly.
"Atta boy," he buried his thumbs underneath your pants and boxers, pulling them down to let them drop to your ankles. "Knew you'd come around."
He groaned at the sight of your bare thighs and drooling cock, running his hands along the curve of your ass to lean back and spread it, focusing his gaze on your asshole. "Fuck," he hissed. "Can't wait to feel your tight little hole around me later. Gonna fill you up with my cum, make you mine."
Arousal sank in your stomach like a rock as your hole clenched around nothing. Whatever's coursing through his veins made him more impulsive, more desperate, but with the fog that clouded your thoughts, you hardly found it in you to mind.
He spat on his cock and moved a hand away from your body to briefly jerk himself off and smear the saliva around.
"Open up, baby," he instructed as soon as he was done, raising his hand to caress your hip. "Spread your legs a little."
Like a trained puppy, you obeyed, widening your thighs just enough to let him guide his hard cock in between them. Your breath hitched at the sight of the head peeking out, squeezing your legs around him just a bit tighter.
"Jesus fuck, [Name]," he groaned, leaning forward to press his chest against your back. He wrapped his arms around your waist, holding you close to him. Through the hazy mess that was in your mind, you found comfort in the warmth and firmness of them as you placed your hands on his forearms for some sort of stability. "That's it. Squeeze me just like that."
You could feel every twitch and throb, and you were sure he could feel yours, too. It felt like your senses were on overdrive as you listened to your labored breaths, his pleased sighs and grunts, and the slick sounds of his cock sliding in and out of your thighs. He set a leisurely pace, rocking his hips back and forth.
"Shit..." He hissed, speeding up his thrusts as his dick rubbed against your balls, smearing his makeshift lube across your skin.
His hips met yours with quiet slaps, making sure to keep the noise level at a minimum despite the overwhelming urge to just bury himself inside you right then and there. He mouthed at the nape of your neck, tasting the salt of your skin, gently pressing his teeth down hard enough to send sparks down your spine.
His fingertips pressed into your sides so firmly it hurt, but it only served to mix in with the desire that burned brightly in your belly. He fucked your thighs with a sense of urgency, as if trying to satiate a hunger deep within his subconsciousânot that you minded.
He grunted and groaned with every thrust, tightening his arms around your waist to tug you back to him whenever your hips jolted forward. It was intoxicating; the way he so effortlessly turned your body into a sensitive mess left you wanting more.
But as soon as a strong hand wrapped around your aching cock, you nearly came on the spot. One of your hands left Leon's forearm to slap it over your mouth as you tried to keep yourself from moaning too loud.
He breathily chuckled beside your ear. "Is this what you wanted?" He rhetorically questioned, swiping a finger over the leaking head so perfectly it left your skin tingling. "Tell me, sweetheart."
"Ohh, fuck," you hissed. It was embarrassing how you so eagerly responded to his touch. "Yeah, th-that's it...!"
Your eyes fluttered shut, focusing on the feeling of his slick cock moving in and out from between your thighs. Your lips parted from behind your hand to let out quiet pants and moans, digging your nails into his forearm the closer you got to your orgasm.
"Oh god, Leonâ!" You moaned, pressing yourself further against his back. You could feel your legs faltering, but he didn't seem to mind having you rely on him to stand up.
"I know, baby, I know," he muttered, his voice tight and strained as his thrusts gradually grew sloppy and weak. "Me too."
His cock pulsed and twitched, and he can't help himself from clamping his teeth over the side of your neck this time. It wasn't hard enough to draw blood, but it left a noticeable bite mark that dully ached.
"Come on, baby, cum for me," he instructed, and you had no choice but to comply.
With a muffled moan, you arched your back and finally came as ropes of your semen coated the dusty wooden floor and Leon's fingers. He stroked you until he was sure that you were spent before letting go to chase after his own release.
"Shit," he cursed, breathing heavily. "I'm gonna cum so... so fucking hard...!"
With a strained groan, his hips jerked erratically as he came, holding you tight enough to leave bruises. You gently rub your thighs together, helping him ride out his high. It wasn't until a few moments later did he finally stop, breathing hard against your neck as he calmed down. But that's also when the clarity kicked in.
"Oh, fuck," he muttered, moving his head from you. "I'm sorry, I don't know what happenedâI justâ" he apologized, sighing in defeat a moment later.
"It's fine," you replied, patting his arm. You had to suppress a shudder when he pulled away from your thighs. The cum that ended up on the insides of them quickly cooled, leaving an uncomfortable sensation on your skin. You were just gonna have to suck it up.
"Let's just get outta here, already." You shuffled forward a bit to tug your pants back up your legs while Leon composed himself.
"Yeah," he said, pressing an arm against the dusty, wooden door. Through the dim light, you could see that his veins were no longer visible again, but that thought was going to have to hold off until later. "You ready?"
"Yup." You nodded after briefly making sure you still had everything in place.
Without further thought about what happened just a few seconds ago, Leon pushed the door open and quickly left the closet as you trailed close behind. Now, it was back to work.

Tuesday, December 8th
Jake Sim lives a simple life.Â
He likes to think he leads the normal, stereotypical life of a teenage boy. Has decent grades, plays soccer after school, skateboards around the neighborhood, has a best friend who heâs desperately in love with, and has a stable group of friends.Â
Okay, maybe not so simple, because this boy would physically launch himself to the moon and drill at its surface to collect moon dust for you if you asked him toââdespite his deadly fear of combusting in outer space.Â
But that fear doesnât even compare to his worst one yet: not having you in his life.Â
And so, he decided to just repress any and all feelings heâs had for you ever since he discovered them in middle school, when he realized he hated seeing you go to the eighth grade dance with a dateââthat wasnât him.Â
He decided that he wasnât going to risk losing a life-long friendship over some dumb, teenage boy feelings.Â
They were probably powered by his testosterone anyways. Yeah, thatâs totally it.
Heâs totally not in love with you.Â
So yes, he lives a pretty normal life. Every day is the same as the last, and tomorrow will be the same as today. But he likes it like thatââhe doesnât want anything to change.Â
Especially not now, when he finds himself content with every aspect of his life (okay maybe except for his history grade, god, does he hate history).Â
So, it catches him off guard when you arrive at the groupâs usual lunch table, located outside in your schoolâs courtyard, looking as excited as ever.Â
Jakeâs the only one at the table so far. The remaining usually showed up lateââHeeseung spends his first half of lunch tutoring freshmen for community service hours (but the poor boy has no idea what heâs doing), Sunghoon is probably stuck in line in the cafeteria again (he always forgets to pack his own lunch), and Jay is...well actually, no one ever knows where Jay comes from. Heâs a special one.Â
It catches Jake even more off guard when you skip over any greeting a normal person would give, and start speaking at one hundred words per second.Â
And that catches us up to the present.
âY-You want me to what?â Jakeâs stuttering as you stare at him with your hopeful eyes from across the lunch table.Â
Despite the expression planted on your face, which screams your excitement for your âbrilliant, amazing, genius, Einstein-could-neverâ idea (or whatever other words you used to describe itââJake canât exactly recall the specific terms you used, they all came out of your mouth too fast), you donât respond to his question of bafflement. You continue to stare at him, awaiting his response. Jake could compare the look on your face right now to a puppy looking up at its owner, eagerly waiting for a treat. You know, tongue out and all.Â
He swallows the lump thatâs lodged in this throat (is that the sandwich heâs having, or his nerves?) and continues to give you his look of confusion laced with a nervous smile because surely, youâre joking.Â
You grab whatâs left of your sandwich from his hands and take your own bite. Somewhere in between you arriving at the table and now, Jakeâs managed to steal the sandwich you brought today. You did make the best chicken sandwiches, in his defense.Â
âWell? Itâs only for the week! And I promise you, after one week, if nothing happensââif he doesnât make a move or anythingââIâll move on from him like youâve been telling me to.â Your words are muffled from you savoring your sandwich, or whatâs left of it anyways. (Mental note to self: donât share your lunch with Jake ever again.)Â
When Jake still doesnât respond (youâve truly gotten this poor boy paralyzed), you find it as a sign to continue.Â
âI think itâs the perfect plan. Plus, if it doesnât work out, itâll be like the universe is telling me to finally move on, right?âÂ
Wrong.Â
Jake has been encouraging you to move on from your crush because well, if weâre being honest here, he selfishly wants you to himself. Even if it wasnât romantically.
Preferably, he would kill to get to be the one who holds your hand in the hall, call you cheesy pet names, post disgustingly cute couple pics for the âgramââbut for the sake of potentially ruining his relationship with you, heâll just have to settle with the role of being your best friend.Â
(And heâs totally fine with that! Totally. Yup.)Â
But he didnât think that you moving on would only be a mere possible outcome (that may not even happen!) from whatever this stunt is you wanna pull.Â
Said stunt: Pretend to date one another and hope it catches the eye of a certain someone you have your eye on: Park Sunghoon.Â
Ah yes, Park Sunghoon. The previously mentioned one whoâs probably still in line waiting to get his lunch as we speak.Â
Park Sunghoon, the tall, kind, intelligent, charming young boy that everyone knows. And if anyone didnât know him, they most definitely knew of him. He wasnât hard to miss in the halls; everything about him just radiates perfection.Â
If you plucked a random high-schooler from the halls of this school and interviewed them on the Park Sunghoon, theyâd say youâd be lucky enough if the quiet boy so much as sparked a conversation with you, even if it was about what last nightâs chemistry homework was.Â
Well if that were true, then you and the rest of the boys would be considered lottery winners.Â
How that happened, how the four of you dysfunctional beings earned his friendship, the world may never know. However, Jake is fully convinced that this was the universeâs way of playing a cruel joke on him.Â
For as long as Jake could remember, itâs always been just the two of you. You and Jake. Jake and you. (With the exception of Heeseung and Jay, of course, who came along in middle school)Â
In fact, your earliest memory of Jake was when he peed his pants in the kindergarten during nap time. You would know, you had the privilege of sharing a sleeping mat with him that one fateful day and in result...letâs just say the smell didnât wear off from your clothes until a week later. Five-year-old you didnât forgive five-year-old Jake for the longest time.Â
And since then, youâve been attached by the hip. And Jake liked it like that. Jake didnât need anyone else in his life (with the exception of Leila) if he had you. He had found his home within you, and he didnât plan on sharing his space anytime soon.Â
Nevertheless, the universe had a completely different idea for the two of you.Â
Sunghoon came into the picture last year, towards the end of the school year. Despite being the new kid, he found his way into your cherished friend group and naturally, the five of you grew as close as friends could be.Â
That was the problem. Jake wanted to hate Sunghoon, to despise him for being the one that you had heart eyes for, but he couldnât.Â
Not only was Sunghoon one of Jakeâs closest friends, but he didnât want to ruin the dynamic of the friend group. After you, the three chaotic boys were the next most important people in Jakeâs life.Â
And so, we have the typical love triangle plot that every coming-of-age movie follows. Of course, this is all unbeknownst to youââyou may be intelligent and a people-person, but oh boy can you not see the heart eyes your very own best friend has for you.Â
âItâll be easier than you think, really! Look, we can even set boundaries or rules or whatever,â you propose, as if youâre trying to get him to sign a contract.Â
Rules to a fake relationship? Weâre not living in a Netflix romcom, are we?Â
âOkay rule number 1: itâll only be for a week and a week only, rule number 2: we donât have to do anything too couple-ly like...â you pause to wonder for a second.Â
âLike PDA or anything! You know, unless we really need to convince him,â you casually add. When he responds with radio silence and stares at you with absolute concern painted all over his face, you cough. âJake, Iâm joking.âÂ
Right. Of course. Obviously.Â
âAnd of course, just try not to fall in love with me, itâll be hard, I know,â you send a playful wink his way.Â
Too late. Turns out itâs not that hard. Jake would know.Â
Jake continues to stare at you in hesitation. Yeah, youâve had your fair share of crazy ideas (that Jake always find himself agreeing toââthe poor boy just canât seem to say no to you), but fake dating you?
Jake is sure he wouldnât be able to pull it off without slowly destroying himself. Heâd just have to say no, heâs sure you can find someone else to do it for you.Â
Yes, thatâs it, just say no.Â
Jake has to keep some of his pride in tact.Â
Jake does not say no.Â
He doesnât know what went wrong. His mind said one thing, but his words said another.Â
To be fair, Jakeâs actions have always been influenced by his heart, not his brain, anyways. And when it comes to you, you bet itâll be coming from his heart.Â
So here he was now, under the stare of three equally shocked and confused guys across from you and him at the lunch table, your fingers intertwined with his.
Just a few seconds ago, you had spotted the rest of the lunch bunch approaching the table, and you quickly grabbed Jakeâs hand and scooted in closer to him. Â
Now here you were, explaining to your friends of your sudden relationship. Â
Jake is too zoned out to even physically pick up your explanation. Something along the lines of "weâve been dating for a while but didnât want to tell you guys yet."Â From the feeling of your hand clutched tightly into his and your body right up next to him, his mind was short-circuiting.Â
How is he supposed to last an entire week of this if he couldn't handle innocent hand holding? Hand holding? God, what are we, back in the fifth grade? Â
Two minutes into this scheme and Jake's mind has already downgraded itself to a fifth grader's. Â
Jake mentally scolds himself for giving in, this was not a good idea.Â
It takes Jake approximately 12 hours to conclude that this stunt of yours may, actually, be a good idea. He knows this because approximately 12 hours after the events surrounding lunch, he receives a text from you:Â
y/n [12:03AM]: thanks again for doing this for me jake
y/n [12:03AM]: ur actually the best
y/n [12:04AM]: ew ok that was cheesy but really i owe u a big one <333
Following your thread of texts is a really close up photo of you widely smiling into the camera. A smile so big, Jakeâs convinced your face was probably in pain after taking that picture.Â
Anyone else mightâve thought the photo looked borderline insane but because Jakeâs Jake, aka a simpáľďż˝ďż˝ďż˝ for you, he comes to the conclusion that itâs singlehandedly the cutest thing heâs ever seen in the entire world.Â
After quickly saving the selfie into his phone, Jake tells himself that maybe this wonât be a bad thing after all. I mean, anything that makes you smile like that meant it has to be a good idea, right?Â
Spoken like a true simp.Â
Plus, dating youââfake dating youââis pretty much the same as it was before. He already spends most of his days with you to begin with. Now, itâs just with added displays of affection. For show, obviously. Obviously.Â
And look, if Jake will never get to actually be with you, then heâll take what he can get. And if that meant fake dating you, well, he reasons that itâs better than nothing at all.Â
Wednesday, December 9thÂ
Jakeâs playing with the rings on your right hand and youâre in the middle of dramatically telling the lunch table about the infuriating Karen you had to deal with at work the other day when Jay comes up with a grin you all know a little too well.Â
âOkay that grin means one of two things: you finally grew the balls to ask out that poor girl youâve been teasing all year or you have something planned that we wonât like,â you interrupt your story when you catch Jayâs sly expression, evoking a chuckle from Jake, whoâs now found a new distraction with the bracelets perches on your wrist.Â
âExcuse you, Iâll have you know that I did ask her out. It just so happens that sheâs currently âin between boyfriendsâ whatever that means. Ouch, by the way,â Jay feigns hurt from your comment by clutching the area above his heart through his shirt. Ever the drama queen. âBut yes, I do have something planned. And no, itâs not a bad idea.âÂ
Jay squeezes his way in between Sunghoon and Heeseung from across you and begins to pull out his own lunch. Everyoneâs eyes follow him as he settles in because as bad as his unknown idea may be, youâre all still curious on what this boy has to say.Â
âWell are you going to elaborate or...â Heeseung speaks up for everyone after you all mentally debate one another through darting eyes on whoâs going to have to bite Jayâs silent bait.
Jay then forcefully sets both hands on his table, which elicits a little jump from you as you go for a bite of your sandwich. Adorable, Jake tells himself.Â
âMy parents are out of town this weekend. We all know what that means...âÂ
Yes. We do know what that means. The four of you have seen this scenario play out many times, a little too many times for your own good.Â
This meant one of Jayâs infamous house parties that he always throws whenever his parents go out of town. And because his parents are hot-shot CEOs of an important company whose name you donât remember (itâs nothing personal, your brain can only handle so much information and this physics exam you were studying for took up 90% of your brain capacity at the moment), theyâre out of town often.Â
And along with Jayâs parties comes chaos. Lots of it. And thatâs because...well, itâs safe to say that despite the many school-wide presentations the police officers of your school have held in the auditorium on why you shouldnât drink underage, Jayâs parentsâ liquor cabinet always seems to find itself missing many a few bottles after each party. But we donât talk about that. Shush.Â
Almost simultaneously, everyone at the table lets out a groan, much to Jayâs disappointment.Â
âCâmon guys! Itâs been a while since anythingâs fun happened to this school, think of all the sad students in that building right now,â he extends a finger whole-ass arm and points at your school, âwho are in dire need of fun and a little...â he punctuates his sentence with the hand motion of chugging down a drink, followed with a gulping sound elicited from his tongue clicking.Â
You roll your eyes along with everyone else. Donât be like Jay, kids. Listen to those police officers.Â
âJay, itâs midterm season! I have an exam on Monday and I definitely do not want to spend the nights before wasted,â you give him an apologetic look. As crazy as Jay is, you do feel bad nonetheless. The boy just wants to have fun.Â
Your response is followed up with similar comments from around the table.Â
âIâm helping y/n studyâÂ
âI have an important skating performance on SundayâÂ
âUh...my hamster died?â (ok Heeseung panicked, donât blame the guy)
Ignoring that last excuse of an excuse, Jay continues his debate nonetheless. âJust come for the sake of it! No oneâs saying you have to get wasted. Pleaseeee for me?âÂ
Jay throws these parties so often, youâre not sure why heâs so set on making sure youâre all going to be there. Well, I guess who wouldnât want their closest friends to be at their own party?Â
That and, Jay needs to make sure his friends are there to stop him from doing anything stupid. We all know this boy has had enough embarrassing moments to last him a lifetime.Â
Everyone at the table gives each other the same hesitant look. Heeseung is the first to give in, âOh fuck it. Sure, count me in.âÂ
Jayâs fist pumping the air before turning to Sunghoon with the most hopeful eyes.Â
Sunghoon simply sighs in return. âAlright okay, Iâll bite. But if you vomit on my shoes again, Iâm out the door.â Jayâs finger is automatically drawing a cross over his heart as a promise to not ruin Sunghoonâs Nikes again.Â
He then looks to you with puppy eyes.Â
You, who's already staring back at Jay with a stoic look in your eyes, are stubborn and (unlike the previous weaklings) are not as easy to convince. And somehow, this began an unannounced staring contest between the two of you, a contest to see who would budge first. This isn't an uncommon occurrence between you and Jay, but the rest of the boys are still on the edges of their seats watching this duel.
Jake casually wraps an arm around your shoulder and youâre brought in close, but still undeterred from your death-stare match with the boy across from you.Â
If itâs not obvious enough, Jakeâs really gotten into his role of being your boyfriend, despite it only being 24 hours since he last froze at your touch. Character development, youâll give him that.Â
You almost forget heâs faking it for a quick second. And for an even quicker second, you imagine he wasnât faking it. And you swear you feel butterflies in your stomach at that thought.Â
Weird.Â
You mentally shake the thought out of your head. Priorities first, aka, beating Jay in this staring contest.Â
âFuck,â you stutter when you finally blink, admitting defeat to a grinning Jay. âOkay, okay, Iâll THINK about it. Iâll let you know.âÂ
Not exactly the answer Jay was looking for, but heâll take it. Better than a no.Â
He turns to Jake next, knowing thereâs no way Jake will turn down a party. Just like Jay, the boy loves himself a good party.Â
Butâ
But because Jake would take your physics exam this Monday for you if you asked, because Jake would bungee jump in the Grand Canyon without a safety net below him if you asked, because Jake would fake date you to make your crush jealous for you if you asked, he doesnât hesitate in his answer this time around: âSame as y/n, Iâll let you know.âÂ
Jay looks at Jake. Then back at you, who heâs still clinging onto like a koala to a tree. Then back at Jake. âYou two are gross. Admittedly cute. But gross.âÂ
You look up at the boy next to you to see him already grinning at you.Â
For the first time today, you find yourself agreeing with Jay.Â
Admittedly cute.Â
Thursday, December 10thÂ
You are having a bad day.Â
Youâre having the mother of bad days.Â
Not only is it midterm season, but you still have all your regular weekly assignments to finish before Friday hits. So as a natural-born procrastinator does, you stayed up all last night trying to get a good amount of work done because whatâs better than cramming all your work the night before itâs due? Doing it two nights before itâs due.Â
Well apparently it wasnât such a good idea. Because now, here you were, frantically throwing on whatever articles of clothing you find nearest to you because you slept through all your alarms.Â
Youâre lucky enough to make it through your schoolâs doors right as the second bell rings, even if you did look like you just walked straight out of a zombie apocalypse.Â
Youâre not so lucky when you find out your first class of the day, calculus, had a pop quiz. A pop quiz on the only unit you just happened to know absolutely nothing about.Â
To top things off, you forgot to pack your lunch during this morningâs frenzy, meaning youâre automatically stuck sharing with Jake.
And because his mother started making him pack his own food out of a lesson of responsibility (she said something along the lines of:Â âJake, youâre about to be in college and you donât know how to pack a decent mealâ), he only has a plain PB&J sandwich and a pack of Scooby-Doo gummies in his bag today (because newsflash, he still doesnât know how to pack a decent meal).Â
Not that you could care less at the moment, you were too preoccupied with catching up on your assignments to even eat. And if any of the boys noticed your zombie-like state during lunch, they did a good job of not mentioning it. They knew better than to bother an irritated y/n.Â
Somehow, you make it through the entire school day and your after-school meeting for environmental club (save the trees!) in one piece. As you finally walk out of the school building, you exhale, automatically feeling lighter. At least the hard part of your day was done.Â
Now you just had to wait for Jake to finish soccer practice, which usually ended around the same time as your club, and he can drive you home, where you can continue being irritated with your day in the privacy of your own space.Â
You wait on the steps of the schoolâs entrance, waiting for a smiley Jake to come around the corner as he usually does at 5:30pm every Thursdays.Â
Yes, a smiling Jake is exactly what you needed to make your day ten times better, you conclude.Â
As if on cue, you hear a ding from your phone.Â
Jake [5:30PM]: ugh coach is extending practice for âteam bondingâÂ
Jake [5:30PM]: idek what team bonding isÂ
Jake [5:31PM]: you ok if i cant drive you today? ://Â
Itâs as if the universe decided to use you as its punching bag today.Â
You physically let out a distorted groan, not caring if anyone who happened to hear you thought you were a creature from out of this world, as you send him a text back.
y/n [5:32PM]: itâs all good lol have fun with tEaM bOnDiNg
Things were not all good. But no matter how upset you may be, you werenât going to project your negative vibes onto Jakeâs naturally positive ones. So you get up from the stone steps and begin your dreaded walk back home.Â
Itâs freezing out. You shouldâve known better to just throw on a hoodie and call it a day when itâs the middle of December. But then again, you figured by now youâd be in the comfort and warmth of Jakeâs car and presence...not walking home in these freezing temperatures.Â
You think about Jake and how heâs probably currently suffering from not only his team bonding exercises (but really though, what are team bonding exercises?), but doing them in this weather as well. The poor boy.Â
Youâre quickly broken out of your thoughts by the sound of a car engine from behind you. When you donât see it pass by you and instead hear it pull over and park next to the curb of the sidewalk youâre currently on, you automatically deduce that this is it, this is my time, Iâm about to get kidnapped by whoever it is behind me but y/n, you should probably turn around and check first before you drive yourself insane in this inner dialogue.Â
You turn around and squint into the front window of the car. If it were a kidnapper, this is exactly what your mother told you not to do. Her exact words were: âRun, donât look back, and scream bloody murder.âÂ
Good thing it wasnât. Just an innocent Sunghoon waving his hand at you, motioning you to get in.Â
âSunghoon?â You approach his car and stop at the passenger sideâs open window.Â
ây/n! Itâs freezing out, Iâll drive you home câmon,â he nods his head towards the passenger side door.Â
Well, how could you say no? Sunghoon owns a nice car. Like a nice car. Like car-seat-heaters-that-make-you-feel-like-youâre-physically-melting nice. Beats getting hypothermia outside, right?Â
âWhy are you going home from school so late?â You ask as you settle into his car, instantly melting at the touch of the aforementioned heated seats.Â
âDebate club, actually. Decided I needed another personality trait other than ice skating,â he starts the engine and begins driving towards the direction of your neighborhood.Â
You laugh at his comment, you didnât peg him as a debate kind of student. Quiet Sunghoon? Debate club? If 2 plus 2 is four...
âHey, I donât call you the Ice Prince for nothing! Also, donât forget your other personality trait: forgetting your lunch every day.âÂ
Sunghoon quickly glances over at you to send you a dirty look (because eyes on the road, kids!), which you return with a cheeky grin. âNeed I remind you that was you today?âÂ
âTouchĂŠ,â you click your tongue.Â
The two of you fall into a comfortable silence, the faint sound of Sunghoon's music in the background filling in the quietness. Â
Youâre humming along until Sunghoon breaks the silence, âDid Jake get stuck at practice again?âÂ
You donât know why, but you swear you feel your heart beat faster at the mention of Jakeâs name. No, that was always there right? Because you were with Sunghoon...your crush..obviously. Obviously.Â
Ignoring the feeling, you turn your attention towards the boy driving you.Â
âOh yeah, something about team bonding. Howâd you know?âÂ
âEh, I just figured since he wasnât driving you home like he always does.â He turns into your neighborhood.Â
You nod at his answer.Â
âYou two make a good couple.âÂ
You whip your head at him. Did you hear him correctly?
âIt was about time, really. You two have been ogling at one another for so long, Heeseung, Jay, and I almost placed bets on who would be the first to make a move.âÂ
He keeps his eyes on the road, casually going on about how you and Jake make the cutest couple heâs ever seen.Â
You're frozen, unsure of what to think, let alone say.Â
You think to two days ago, when you started this entire fake relationship because of the very boy driving you home right now. The same boy who's complimenting you on your fake relationship. The same boy who's supposed to be jealous over that said relationship. The same boy youâre supposed to be crushing over.
But now...only a mere 48 hours later, you were finding yourself okay with the fact that he was happy for you. And for the life of you, you couldnât remember why you liked Sunghoon in the first place. Not saying he isnât one to be crushed on, I mean, look at the guy.Â
Maybe, just maybe, it had something to do with the fact that you didn't feel nervous or giddy or..anything at all when you got into the car with Sunghoon. At least, not until Jake's name was mentioned. That's when you felt the butterflies. At the mention of Jake. Â
Jake.Â
Weird.Â
But before you can come to a conclusion on why you're feeling the way you do, Sunghoon interrupts your thoughts. Â
"Well, we're here! Say hi to your parents for me," he pulls into your driveway as you're still collecting your thoughts. Â
You give him a quick thanks and one last wave as you enter the front doors of your house. Â
Seeing that your only solution towards confusing feelings meant distracting yourself, distract yourself you did. Â
Even if it meant distracting yourself with your piling assignments. Â
The next time you look up from your work, it's suddenly way past sundown and a heavy storm has taken over. Youâre surprised it hasnât started flooding yet with the amount of rainfall you were hearing.Â
You check the time on your phone, the bright 8:16PM on the screen illuminating your dimly lit room. Seeing that neither of your parents have yet to be home from work, it looks like you were going to have to settle with some instant ramen for dinner tonight. Â
As you trudge down the stairs of your home, the sound of light knocking against the front door catches your attention. It's been a long day y/n, you're probably hearing things, it's definitely just the rain.
Nope. There it is again, but much louder. Much more urgent. Â
You contemplate any and all potential disasters that could happen from answering the door. Only a crazy person would be willing to go out in this hurricane-like weather to be frantically knocking on your door. Â
And so, you assume it has to be some psychopath trying to get into your house. Yes, thereâs definitely no other logical explanation.Â
You scramble around your living room, looking for the next best weapon to defend you. Resorting to the flower vase your mother keeps on the table next to the front door, you hold it out in front of you, as if you're waiting for the door to burst open. Â
The knocking continues, gradually getting louder. You mentally curse at yourself for dropping out of the taekwondo class your dad signed you up for when you were younger. Â
Vase in hand, you swing open the door and brace forâ
"Jake? What the fuck? Get in here, you're gonna get sick!" Â
Youâre suddenly aware of how stupid you look, holding a light pink vase with a couple of orchids as your only form of self-defense...for it to only be your own best friend. You immediately put it back on the table as Jake quickly rushes past you and into your humble abode. Â
You close the door behind you and turn to face the soaked boy. Â
âI come bearing gifts, also known as take-out and hot chocolate from that one cafe you love. Also my company, if youâll take it. I had a feeling you werenât having the best day today,â heâs simply standing there, holding up a large brown paper bag in one hand, and a deliciously smelling cup of hot chocolate in the other, but youâre looking at him as if he bought you the Moon.Â
You stare in awe at the angel of a boy in front of you, silently thanking the stars for gifting you this amazing human being as your best friend. You donât know what you did to deserve him.Â
You give him a soft smile. âJake, you didnât have to. Itâs practically a shitstorm out there,â you cock your head towards the window, showcasing the downpour of cats and dogs outside. Jake stays by the entrance as you go down the hall and through your houseâs linen closet to find a spare towel for the drenched boy.
âNah itâs no big deal, really. Just fulfilling my duties as your loyal boyfriend,â he grins, even though you canât see him. He likes calling himself that. Your boyfriend.
Jake continues to shake his messy hair to get the excess rain off, giving a mental apology to whoever is going to have to mop up the puddle forming on the floor due to his unannounced visit. Probably you.Â
Jake hears you laugh down the hall. âYouâre really invested in your role, huh? Keep this up and you might actually trick me into believing youâre my actual boyfriend.âÂ
Actual boyfriend? Jake likes the sound of that. Maybe he will keep this up then.
Jake doesnât have much experience in acting, unless you count that time he played the role of Town Villager #3Â in the third grade play, so he never found it as one of his interests. But playing the role of your boyfriend was one he was willing to fulfill for the rest of life, even if it was just for show.Â
Jake doesnât respond to your comment, heâs instead self-aware of his blushing cheeks, thankful that youâre too busy rummaging through your linen closet to take notice.Â
âPlus, you didnât have lunch today and I had feeling you were going to be too caught up in your work to feed yourself anything other than instant ramen,â he sets down his gifts to you on your living roomâs coffee table as you come around the corner, fresh towel and new set of clothes in hand.Â
His eyes fall on the familiar looking pair of sweatpants and hoodie resting on the palms of your hands.Â
Hm. A little too familiar.Â
Then, it clicks in his head.Â
His eyes narrow at you as you giggle at his reaction, âOh, so it takes me getting drenched in the rain for you to finally return my clothes that Iâve been missing!?âÂ
âHey! Iâm not returning them, simply loaning them out to a friend whoâs in dire need. You basically gifted them to me the second you left them here months ago.âÂ
âYouâre annoying.âÂ
âLove you too,â you toss the clothes at him and take a seat on the floor around your coffee table, prepping the table with the boxes of Chinese food Jake supplied.Â
After Jake changes into the stolen dry clothes, he takes a seat next to an already-eating you at the coffee table.Â
âYou. are. my lord and savior Sim Jaeyun,â youâre saying with your mouth full of fried rice. You sigh from satisfaction and rest your head against Jakeâs shoulder as you continue chewing. He grins as he helps himself to his own serving of fried rice and orange chicken.Â
You look up at him from your spot, âHow was team bonding today?âÂ
Jake groans in response, clearly annoyed. âStupid. I donât get how doing trust falls and pyramid building is going to get us any closer. If anything, I almost FELL off that pyramid today!âÂ
You donât know why, but you find yourself admiring him and his soft features as he continues to rant about one of his teammates, specifically, the one who almost dropped him.Â
The way his messy hair, unkept from the rain ruining it, almost covers his eyes (but you tell yourself you like it this way, it looks more natural on him), the way the corners of his lips are always perked upwards (even when heâs ranting), the way his eyes sparkle whenever heâs truly passionate about whatever heâs talking about, the way his eyes look at you likeâ
âStare much? Look, I get you canât resist my good looks but at least be subtle about it,â he smirks at you as he takes another spoon of rice.Â
You break out of his trance and scoff at him.Â
âYouâre cute when you rant,â you nonchalantly say as you move from your spot to mirror his actions and add more rice to your plate as well. Jakeâs stills at your sudden comment, unsure of how to respond. Lucky for him, youâre distracted by the mountain of food on your plate to even notice the blushing mess of a boy next to you.Â
âYou know, youâre lucky youâre cute. Or else Iâd deck you right here and now for ditching me after school today.âÂ
Anddd there goes the moment. Leave it to you to follow up a compliment with a threat of violence.Â
Jake finds it cute anyways. He always finds you cute.Â
Jake narrows his eyes and lightly shoves you before an apology is written all over his face. âSorry about that by the way. I feel awful about making you walk home when it was freezing out.âÂ
âNah, itâs okay. Sunghoon gave me a ride, actually. Did you know he does debate? I guess you learn something new everyday,â you ramble, unaware of the boy next to you getting tense at the sudden mention of the otherâs name.Â
Up until now, Jakeâs completely forgotten about Sunghoon's involvement in this entire scheme. In fact, the past 48 hours with you have felt so normal, so comfortable, he almost forgot about the deal in the first place. Â âYou think he has any clue?â Jake suddenly asks, referring to the plan.Â
You immediately know what heâs referring to, as Jake practically worded out your very own thoughts.Â
You shrug. âNot a single one. Weâre practically William and Kate in his eyes. But honestly, thatâs the least of my worries right now. Iâm too distracted by my exams right now to care.âÂ
Jake feels guilty for being satisfied with your answer. Heâs 100% sure that if convincing Sunghoon took you two an entire lifetime of fake dating, heâd be all too willing to do it.Â
âGo to Jayâs party with me tomorrow,â he abruptly says, catching your attention as your mouth is stuffed. Cute.Â
He pokes your cheek. âItâll get your mind off of work and plus, whatâs more convincing than showing up to a party with your amazing boyfriend?â he wiggles his eyebrows at you. Jake doesnât know where he gets his sudden surge of confidence. But he does know he loves calling himself your boyfriend...even if itâs for the time being.Â
Rolling your eyes and swatting his poking fingers away from your face, you ponder on his suggestion.Â
âYou mean my annoying boyfriend,â you stick your tongue out at him. Jake takes a mental picture and hopes it never leaves his mind.Â
âBut I guess you could be right. Maybe I can clear my head for the night before I study my ass off all weekend.âÂ
Friday, December 11thÂ
The party does not clear your mind.Â
If anything, it gives you enough headaches to last you at least until the end of high-school.Â
You come to this revelation as you and Jake approach Jayâs home, a luxurious mansion sitting at the end of a cul-de-sac, lined with similarly luxurious palaces, located in an equally luxurious neighborhood.Â
You come to this revelation when you can already feel the pounding bass of music as you walk up Jayâs driveway.Â
You come to this revelation when, not even two seconds after entering Jayâs front doorsââ
âYouâre here!â A buzzed Jay shouts at the two of you, causing the both of you to contemplate your past choices that brought you here today. Jay definitely isnât straight up drunk yet, but Jake still makes a mental note to keep an eye on him tonight. Just in case.Â
The blonde-haired boy is quick to hand over two red solo cups of god knows what, to which you and Jake immediately put down on the nearest table after Jay walks away to greet the next incoming guests (you know, to not hurt his feelings).Â
You and Jake are lucky enough to have been around Jay and his parties long enough to know that going all out at these parties will not be pretty the next morning.
You cringe at the memory of last year, when you had to suffer from possibly the worst hangover of all hangovers after one of Jayâs parties. Jake will never let you forget how miserable you looked the next morning. His camera rollâs album titled ây/n blackmail picsâ can vouch for that.
âRemind me again to never listen to you,â you almost have to shout at Jake over the thumping music. Jake laughs at your comment and tugs at your hand as he begins entering the house.
The two of you do your rounds of greetings to the people you know...and random underclassmen who you swear you have never seen before but somehow made it to this party. Youâve always questioned how Jayâs invite list worked. Maybe there isnât one. That would explain how it looked like someone announced Jay was giving out free Teslas and the entire school got hold of the news.Â
âThank god you guys are here,â you hear a voice come from behind the two of you as you guys leave the main room to enter the houseâs smaller, but just as luxurious looking, den. You turn to see Heeseung with Sunghoon following closely behind, trying his best not to get swept away in the crowd of people.Â
The den is where you usually stayed during these parties. Itâs not like there are rules of where people are allowed to party, by any means, but itâs like how a high-schoolâs cafeteria worked. Thereâs a mutual silent agreement of where everyone goes, and the den is where the party host and his friends went. Â
âOkay, is it just me, or is tonightâs party just a little...too..much?â Sunghoon asks as the four of you take your seats on the main couch of the room. Jakeâs quick to make space for you next to him as you go to sit, but to his surprise, you find your home right on his lap.Â
âYou said be convincing right?â you say into his ear as you settle yourself. Right. Thatâs totally why. Because you had to go along with the ruse. Obviously.Â
You shift a bit so youâre more facing sideways, not blocking off Jakeâs line of vision as the boy himself is..well, calling him a rag doll might be excessive.Â
But heâs sure he looks like one right now, having lost all senses in his limbs, leaving him frozen underneath you.Â
Jake Sim is the epitome of politeness. He was raised in a family that taught him how to respectfully greet others, how to always offer food to others before eating it himself, how to properly treat a significant other. As a result, Jake grew up to be one of the sweetest, kindest, purest people to ever walk this earth.Â
(Relatively speaking, the earth is large, but so is Jakeâs heart.)Â
But human-beings arenât perfect, they must have a balance. A balance of pros and cons.Â
Sure, he canât pack his own lunch and sometimes forgets to water the little succulent you gifted him thatâs currently seated on his window sill. Sure, sometimes heâs too sweet for his own good, you know, like willing-to-be-your-fake-boyfriend too sweet. But aside from the minor details, Jake Sim doesnât have many cons, no.Â
But he sure can be awkward.Â
And so because Jake Sim is sweet, kind, pure, and awkward, he is unsure of what to do with himself when youâre seated right on top of him.Â
As if you could read his befuddled mind, you take his arm thatâs resting behind you to wrap around your waist as your support as you throw one of your arms around his shoulder. And throughout this entire adjustment, his widened eyes are staring right at you.Â
Bless this pure, pure boy.Â
Also bless the position youâre in, blocking the two other boys from directly seeing Jakeâs face. Because if they were to catch glimpse of Jakeâs expression right now, your cover might be blown, just like that. Youâre lucky Heeseung and Sunghoon are distracted by another classmate who came up to them.Â
âRelax,â you sweetly laugh, cupping his chin with your free hand and lightly squeezing his cheeks. âYouâre so adorably awkward.âÂ
Jake pouts at you. âI am not awkward!âÂ
âRight, and Iâm totally dating you for real,â you playfully whisper at him, eliciting a poke at your waist in response.Â
Twenty minutes of people-watching-aka-âwho do you think is gonna pass out first?â-from-your-spot-on-the-couch later, the four of you draw your attention to the rowdy party host you all have the honor of calling your friendââaka Jayââdancing (that is, if you call wildly swinging your limbs in all four directions dancing) in the middle of the den.Â
"Oh god, look at him," Sunghoon voices from besides you.
Heeseung's already filming the moment on his phone. Ah yes, technology. The best thing to ever happen to drunk teens' friends. Â
"He's so wasted," you throw your head back as you let out a laugh. âWe should help the kid out.âÂ
Poor Jay. He's not gonna hear the end of it after tonight.
"I don't know why he thinks these parties are such a good idea when he knows how trashed he's gonna be when he wakes up," Jake says, his hand naturally squeezing your waist as you giggle at his comment. "And how trashed the house will be." Â
Jay slumbers over to where the four of you are seated, and abruptly stops right in front of the couch.
"My best friends!" Jay happily cheers. âHaving fun?âÂ
âWatching you? Always,â you say to the boy whoâs squeezing into a seat between you and Sunghoon, as if the small couch wasnât already suffocating enough (and thatâs with you on Jakeâs lap).Â
âBut for real though, you should probably lay off the drinks for now,â Heeseung insists. âFor all our sakes.âÂ
Sunghoon nods along and grabs the cup Jayâs currently nursing and sets it down where itâs out of Jayâs reach, much to his dismay. But the disappointment quickly leaves the dazed boyâs head, as his attention is now directed towards you and Jake.Â
âWell if it isnât mom and dad,â Jay turns to face you and Jake, certainly amused by your seating arrangement.Â
âYou knowââ Jay points a finger at the two of you. âFor a couple thatâs certainly close, I havenât seen you two kiss.âÂ
Jake is immediately coughing, certainly not expecting that to come out of his friendâs mouth.Â
âOkay and your point is?â Jake frowns at Jay. If Jay wasnât tipsy, Jake wouldâve smacked the back of his head by now.Â
âIâm just saying...â the blonde responds, both hands up in the air as if Jake is accusing him of something, when in was, in fact, the opposite. âBut nevermind, Jakey boy here is probably too innocent for such nonsense anyways.âÂ
Yes, itâs confirmed. Once Jay sobers up tomorrow, Jake is driving over to his house (even though itâs a good ten minute drive from his own) just to smack him.Â
âWhat do you mean Iâm tooââÂ
Jake doesnât finish his sentence. In fact, Jake doesnât even remember what he was going to say.Â
Jake doesnât think nor feel anything else other than your lips planted on his.Â
Youâre pulling him in close, your hands cupping his face as his own are twitching on your waist, his mind flustered. You move your hands from his face to his neck, to which Jake immediately relaxes at.Â
Sure, you two are in the middle of a dumb high-school party, one filled with pounding music and shouting teenagers, but right now, in this moment, Jake can only feel you. And he doesnât want the feeling to ever stop.Â
When you part, Jakeâs eyes flicker from your eyes to your lips, his own parted in shock. He thinks he might pass out right here and now. He thinks his heart might explode right here and now. He thinks he might lov-
âHappy?â you turn to a satisfied Jay, ignoring the looks of amusement from Heesung and Sunghoon besides him.Â
âWell,â you pat Jakeâs leg as you get up from your spot. âIâm gonna get us some drinks. Punch only, of course.âÂ
Jakeâs eyes are on you as you walk away, his face tinted pink from the adrenaline of it all, his heart racing.Â
Jake thinks back to three days ago, when he told himself that this idea of yours was going to be all fine. After all, it was only going to be for one week. Afterwards, he can move on with his life as if nothing happened.Â
But fast forward 72 hours later, 72 hours after you and Jake started this act, 72 hours after Jake told himself itâll be all fine, Jake knows he was poorly mistaken.
Because 72 hours later, in the middle of a party that reeked of the combined smell of alcohol and sweat, Jake knows one thing and one thing for sure.
He never wants to move on from the feeling of being with you. He never wants to move on from this.
From you.Â
Heâs screwed.Â
Saturday, December 12thÂ
When Jake wakes up, much later than he intended to, on Saturday morning, the first sensation he feels are his tingling lips, still in disbelief that they graced your own last night.Â
The second sensation being his pounding mindââitâs running through ten million thoughts at a time, telling him no last night wasnât a dream.Â
Third:Â his heart beating so fast at the thought of you, he thinks he might beat out of his chest.
And fourth, a buzzing noise.Â
Jake blindly flounders his arm to the table beside him in hopes of finding the origin of the annoying sound, aka, his phone.Â
After knocking down multiple miscellaneous items on his nightstand (he makes a mental note to clean his room later), he successfully retrieves the item of search.Â
Jake squints at the bright screen, mind still cloudy from a mix of 1) being half-asleep, and 2) still processing what happened the night before.Â
y/n [11:10AM]: r u awake yet?Â
y/n [11:22AM]: imma take that as a no
y/n [11:35AM]: lemme know when ur upÂ
jake [11:44AM]: just woke up sorryÂ
jake [11:44AM]: are you okay? whatâs up
y/n [11:45AM]: r u busy?Â
y/n [11:45AM]: kinda wanted to talk abt smth
jake [11:45AM]: uh well no im still in bed lmao
y/n [11:46AM]: cool im outside your doorÂ
Jakeâs eyes widen as he processes your last few texts.Â
Talk? Outside his door?Â
Jakeâs heart is nervously pounding as jumps out of bed and quickly puts on the first plaid flannel he finds. He scrambles to his mirror and gives his reflection a quick run-down.Â
Heâs sporting your his favorite hoodie underneath the flannel thatâs long overdue a wash and his tousled hair has seen better days, but he couldn't care less.Â
Before his mind can catch up to his actions, heâs rushing down the stairs, skipping two at a time and to this front door. Because he didnât want to keep you waiting? Because he was too excited to see you? Maybe a mix of both. Definitely more of the latter, however.Â
He quickly runs a hand through his hair to try to fix it up as much as he can, to no avail, before opening the door to reveal you, sitting on the steps of his front porch.Â
ây/n,â heâs breathing heavily as you turn to greet him with your sweet smile he didnât even realize he was missing. Is it possible to miss someone overnight? Jake concludes yes, it definitely is.Â
âDid you run down here or something?,â you question his out-of-breath state, a teasing tone laces the tip of your tongue.Â
âOr something,â Jake mutters as he closes the front door behind him to join you on the steps when you make no sign of moving. âHave you been out here all morning?âÂ
âNot allll morning. I had a feeling youâd sleep in so I came around the time I first texted you. Wouldâve knocked but didnât wanna bother your family,â you hum, keeping your eyes trained on the peaceful scenery around you.Â
Youâve always loved Jakeâs neighborhood, it brought you a sense of peace, a sense of home.Â
Or was that because it reminded you of Jake?Â
âYou could never be a bother,â he quickly rebuttals as he takes his seat next to you on the steps.Â
You respond with a soft smile before turning your attention back to anything other than the boy next to you. Your mind seems to be lost in its own thoughts, Jake can tell by the distant look in your eyes.Â
The sound of birds chirping in the distance fills the silence that falls between the two of you.Â
Any other day, Jake would love this. He savors every second heâs with you, even if itâs just pure silence.Â
But this silence was different. It wasnât the usual comforting, warm silence that the two of you share on a typical day. This one held tension, tension so thick that Jake doesnât know where to begin thinking.Â
But hereâs the thing. Jake doesnât think.Â
Not when it comes to you.Â
He takes a deep breath. Rubs his hands together. Pats them on his lap. Turns towards you.Â
âLook, I-âÂ
âI think I might like you.â The words come out of your mouth so fast, Jakeâs positive he heard you wrong the first time around.Â
He whips his head to meet your eyes, your own already staring back at him, your bottom lip nervously tucked under your teeth.Â
âNo, IââI do. I know I do. Iâm sorry. I didnât know how to tell you and I donât think Iâm doing a very good job right now,â the words are all of the sudden tumbling out of your mouth as if your brain flipped a switch and isnât able to turn it off. âIn hindsight, I shouldâve known better to fake date my own best friend. But these past few days made me realize how much I love being with you. And not like how Iâm always with you 24/7 before this entire thing started, but being with you. I even started getting that weird, bubbly feeling in my stomach every time I so much as heard your name. And then last night at the party, I realized afterwards that I wouldnât have kissed you if some part of me didnât see you in that way. Even if it meant Jay wouldâve been on our asses all night if I didnât. So yeah.âÂ
You finish with a deep breath and look up at him to meet his widened eyes. Silence.
Jake thought he was braindead during last weekâs history quiz. Jake thought he was braindead when he had to cram a semesterâs worth of chemistry content the night before his exam. Heck, Jake thought he was braindead when you first told him about your idea of a fake dating him. But no, this is braindead.
Heâs finally hearing what heâs been dreaming of for so long, and of all times, now his brain decides to shut off. Â
âAre you..uh..are you gonna say anything?â Youâre nervously fumbling with your hands, desperate to distract yourself with anything else apart from his silent stare.Â
"Why are you sorry?" Jake says before his mind can think of anything else. He doesn't pay attention to his thumping heart that's one look-from-you away from exploding right then and there. "You didn't do anything wrong. If anything, you took the words right out of my mouth.âÂ
Now you're staring at him with the wide eyes, the words processing in your mind.
Jake realizes he's waited too long to do this. A few years too long. He also realizes he shouldn't have put on that extra layer of a flannel. The nervous tension created by the two of you was suffocating enough, and being outside under the bright sun didnât help.Â
"I like you too. God y/n, I like you too so much," Jake doesn't even care if his words are all sorts of messed up right now. He just needs you to get the idea. "I have for a while now.âÂ
You let out a relieved sigh, ecstasy rushing through your blood. âReally? I think I have for a while too. Iâm so stupid, it took me so long to realize it. It didnât hit me until I realized how I felt around you, compared to the guy Iâm supposed to actually have a crush on.âÂ
Jake lets out a laugh, the tension immediately dissolving. âHey, if it wasnât for Sunghoon, I donât think weâd be here right now.âÂ
âYouâre right, Iâm too oblivious and youâre too awkward to actually make a move,â you wink at him. If his heart wasnât fluttering at the sight of you, on his porch on a Saturday morning, confessing your feelings to him, Jake probably wouldâve lightly shoved you away.Â
Instead, heâs turning to you with the most endeared look on his face, and youâre blushing underneath his gaze.
âWhat? Stare much?â You giggle, quoting the boy himself as you shyly duck your head to avoid his stare.Â
Jake gently grabs your chin to tilt your face towards his, and before you can process whatâs happening, he suddenly meets your lips with his own, closing the gap between you two.Â
Jake thinks if the ground underneath him right now decided to open up and swallow him whole, heâd die happily.Â
Jake smiles against you, feeling comfort in ways heâll never be able to achieve without you.Â
Your hands instinctively find their way into his hair, as one of his rests below your ear, thumb softly caressing your cheek, the other pulling you in by the waist. Heâs naturally leaning into you, gravitating towards your warmth, unable to stop the giddy feeling bubbling in his stomach.Â
He doesnât think the feeling will ever go away.Â
When you pull away to catch your breath, you rest your head against the nook of his neck, basking in his presence as his arms both find their way around your waist. You sigh in pleasure.Â
âRemember at the beginning of all of this, when you told me âJust try not to fall in love with me?ââ Jake gently says. Jake feels the slight nod you give against his shoulder as you hum in response.Â
Jake whispers two more words into your ear, filling you with happiness and warmth you know you wonât be able to find through anyoneââor anythingââelse.Â
âToo late.âÂ
â° if you made it âtil the end, ily :â)))))Â

â autumn was here !
hey lovelies.
im not usually (this is a lie) super sappy when in regards to this app and my followers, but im here to give it a shot.
i think this app is healthier than others in the sense that you cant see peoples followers so its less of a âill read that because this author has 1k followersâ and more of a âthis work is good and i like itâ when its from a 10 follower author.
the point of me saying this is that i think i truly was blessed to be able to share my work on this site. people really inspired me and kept me motivated to write with their sweet comments, reblogs, and meaningful tags. most of which ive responded to just to make sure you guys know how much it means to me that you enjoyed my work as much as you did.
i think this site has truly allowed me to grow as a writer. a lot of my older works look different from my current ones and both are good in their own ways. overall, i am super thrilled to be able to wake up every morning and read these sweet messages people send me, respond to requests/tags, and see how many likes a post of mine has gotten.
i know ive been- and continue to be- very unexpected and unreliable with my updates. but through it all, people have stuck with me and ive really been grateful for all of the unending support sent my way.
my followers are some of the sweetest people i know and im so honored to be able to say i now have 500 of you. you are all blessings and i love each and every one of you dearly.

Tony Stark and Arthuriana
Coming to you by special request, a very long post about 616 Tony's interest in Arthuriana, with a focus on all of Tony's run-ins with Morgan le Fay!
I feel like I should disclaim the extent of my knowledge here, which is that I still haven't managed to read anywhere near every issue of Iron Man -- at least, not yet, anyway -- so I'm just going by the things I know I've read, and Morgan le Fay's Marvel wiki entry is frustratingly under-cited, so it's very possible I've missed something relevant, but I'm pretty sure I've got the big stuff down. My other disclaimer here is that I'm not as big an Arthurian nerd as Tony is, which is to say that most of my familiarity comes from modern retellings -- T. H. White's The Once and Future King, Marion Zimmer Bradley's The Mists of Avalon, Mary Stewart's The Crystal Cave, Rosemary Sutcliff's Sword at Sunset -- and not so much the usual classic sources on the Matter of Britain, though I've read bits and pieces of them.
(This is because I wanted to read versions of them that were as close to the original as possible but so far have not ended up finishing any of them because, well, that's hard. So I've never read the Mabinogion because I do not know Welsh. I've got the Norton Critical Edition of Malory's Le Morte d'Arthur, which is probably the best student edition if you're looking for something without modernized spellings, as I was. I've also got -- well, okay, it's my wife's but I'm borrowing it -- a relatively recent Boydell & Brewer edition (ed. Reeve, tr. Wright) of Geoffrey of Monmouth's Historia Regum Britanniae (History of the Kings of Britain), which is, you guessed it, in Latin with a facing English translation. I haven't gotten very far in it because, in case you didn't know this about Latin texts, the beginning is pretty much always the hardest, so I gave up and read some Plautus adaptations instead. Anyway, if for some reason you too want to read Geoffrey of Monmouth in the original Latin I'd recommend that one, but I can't recommend any particular English translations because I've never read one by itself. I bet you didn't think you'd be getting Latin prose recommendations in this post. I mean, maybe you did; it is me, after all.)
Okay. Right. King Arthur. Here we go.
We've got:
Flashbacks to Tony's childhood in late Iron Man volume 1
A brief discussion of Morgan's origin story and Avengers #187
Iron Man vol 1 #149-150: Doomquest
What If vol 1 #33: What if Iron Man was trapped in the time of King Arthur?
Iron Man vol 1 #249-250: Recurring Knightmare
Iron Man: Legacy of Doom #1-4
Avengers vol 3 #1-4: The Morgan Conquest
Civil War: The Confession
Mighty Avengers vol 1 #9-11: Time Is On No One's Side
In terms of universe-internal chronology, we know from Iron Man #287, from 1992, that Tony has been a fan of King Arthur since childhood. This is an issue of a fandom-favorite arc which features Tony having a lot of childhood flashbacks, including the famous "Stark men are made of iron" line (in #286) that for some reason MCU fandom decided it loved; I mean, seriously, I've seen that quoted in way more MCU fic than 616 fic. But slightly later, in #287, we get an entire page devoted to Tony's love of King Arthur.
The narration reads: "Over the next few years, I learned as my father intended. Discipline of body. Strength of character. But in what free time I was allowed, I worked my way through the school's library. At thirteen, I discovered Mallory [sic], who showed me a whole new world. A world of dedication to a cause greater than oneself. Of chivalry and honor. And the fantastic deeds -- of armored heroes."
The art shows Tony as a child sitting under a tree, reading a book labeled Mort D'Arthur by Mallory [sic] -- no, don't ask me why nobody at Marvel checked how to spell either the name of the book or its author -- and daydreaming of King Arthur, the Sword in the Stone, knights, et cetera. Just in case you somehow missed the extremely blatant hint that we are meant to understand that Tony's knight obsession heavily influenced him becoming Iron Man as an adult, we see one of his armors mixed in with all the drawings of knights. So, yes, canonically Tony is Iron Man at least partly because he's a giant King Arthur nerd, which I think is so very sweet. I love him. He's such a dork!
(This issue is currently in print in the Iron Man Epic Collection War Machine, should you need your own copy.)
This isn't actually the only reference to Tony as a King Arthur fanboy in this era of canon, either; a little later, in IM #298, we see that one of Tony's passwords is actually "Mallory." (Yeah, no, they still couldn't spell. But it's cute.)
But in terms of actual publication order, this is definitely not the first time we have seen in canon that Tony is into Arthuriana, as I'm sure you all know. I would assume, in fact, that giving Tony a childhood interest in Arthuriana is because Doomquest is one of the most beloved Iron Man story arcs of all time, and that all started at least a decade before IM #287 here was published.
The villain of Doomquest -- the one who isn't Doctor Doom, at least -- is Morgan le Fay. Yes, that Morgan le Fay. Yes, Arthur's evil half-sister Morgan le Fay. Yes, all of this King Arthur stuff is canonically real history on Earth-616. Morgan's first appearance in Marvel, per the wiki, was in Black Knight #1 (1955), which I have not read, and judging by the summary I feel like this is probably just supposed to be a straight-up comic retelling of Arthurian legends for kids; I don't think Marvel really had the whole Marvel Universe in mind as a concept in 1955, so I'm not sure this was meant to connect to anything else. I feel like this is another one of those instances of Marvel discovering that they can write comics about characters in the public domain for free -- like, I'm pretty sure that's how we also ended up with, like, Norse, Greek, and Roman mythology wedged into 616.
As far as I can tell from the wiki, the first time Morgan tangled with the Avengers (or indeed the larger 616 universe) in any way actually predated Doomquest -- it was in an early arc in Spider-Woman (#2-6) and then Avengers #187, which came out in 1979, actually right when Demon in a Bottle was happening over in Iron Man comics. If you read #187, Iron Man is not in it because he's off the team due to his drinking problem and also his accidentally murdering the Carnelian ambassador problem. So Wonder Man's filling in instead. This issue is part of Michelinie's rather sporadic Avengers run, which makes sense, I guess, considering where we see Morgan next.
Anyway, Avengers #187 is the classic issue where Wanda is possessed by Chthon, but what you may not remember from Chthon's backstory (I sure didn't!) is that he was summoned by Morgan le Fay because she was the first person who tried to wield the Darkhold to summon him. As you can imagine, this did not work out especially well for her and her followers and they had to seal Chthon away in Wundagore Mountain, which was where Wanda found him. (The Spider-Woman stuff is only slightly earlier and also appears to be about Morgan and the Darkhold; the Darkhold is not one of the areas of 616 canon I am especially conversant with, alas. It's on my to-read list.)
Doomquest, as you probably know, was a classic Iron Man two-parter in Layton & Michelinie's first Iron Man run that set up Tony and Doom as rivals; Doomquest itself was IM #149-150, in 1981, and then in their second IM run they came back and did a sequel in 1989, Recurring Knightmare (IM #249-250), and then the much later four-part sequel to that was the 2008 miniseries Iron Man: Legacy of Doom, which was also by Layton & Michelinie but generally does not seem to be as popular as the first two parts. They've all been reprinted, if you're looking for copies; I have a Doomquest hardcover that collects the first four issues and then a separate Legacy of Doom hardcover. Currently in the Iron Man Epic Collection line there's a volume called Doom, which confusingly only collects the 249-250 part of the storyline (as well as surrounding issues), because for some reason the first Layton & Michelinie run isn't in Epics yet but the second one is. So the beginning of Doomquest isn't currently in print, as far as I can tell. I'm sure you can find it anyway.
So what's Doomquest about? Okay, so you remember how Doctor Doom's mother's soul is stuck in hell for all eternity? Well, Doom's obviously interested in getting her back, and the strategy he has embarked on is to try to team up with other powerful magicians who can help him out, and he thinks Morgan le Fay would be a good choice, for, uh, his quest. Doom's quest. A Doomquest, if you will. (If you've ever read Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph & Torment, you're familiar with the part where he later ends up waylaying Strange for this and they go to hell together. And if you haven't read Triumph & Torment, you really should, because it's amazing.)
So Doom is off to his time machine to go team up with Morgan le Fay and Tony thinks Doom is up to something -- Doom has been stealing components for his time machine from a lot of people, including Tony -- and he follows him and it turns out one of Doom's lackeys has a grudge and wants to trap Doom in the past forever, and Tony gets caught up in it. Now they're both in Camelot. Surprise! #149 is actually all setup; they don't get to Camelot until #150.
IM #150 begins with Doom and Tony thrown back into the past; there's a fandom-famous splash page of them locked in combat, only to realize that they have found themselves in Camelot.
They are then discovered by knights; Doom would very much like to attack them, but Tony, who naturally would be happy to LARP Camelot forever, persuades him to play nice. Also Doom thinks Iron Man is only Tony's bodyguard so he keeps referring to him as "lackey," much to Tony's annoyance. Somehow everyone thinks they're sorcerers. Can't imagine why. The knights take them to meet King Arthur himself, and Tony has clearly had his introduction all ready to go, as he introduces himself in a timeline-appropriate manner, says he's here to apprehend Doom, and demonstrates his "magic" by levitating Arthur's throne. Doom's response is essentially "I'm the king of Latveria," which is, y'know, also valid. So they're guests at Camelot for the night while Arthur figures out what to do with them.
We then have a page devoted to Tony alone in his room, musing sadly about how alien he feels, how he doesn't know if he'll ever get home, how he could never fit in here without his beloved technology. Then a Sexy Lady shows up to keep him company for the night, and he decides maybe it's not all bad. Thanks, Marvel. I guess they can't all be winners.
Doom is using his evening much more productively; he compels one of the servants to tell him where Morgan's castle is, because he's still interested in having that team-up. Then he jets off. Literally. He has a jetpack.
The next morning Arthur's like "one of you is still here and one of you has punched a hole through the castle wall and flown off to join Morgan so I guess I know which of you is more trustworthy." He then explains to Tony who Morgan is, because Tony professes ignorance, because clearly we had not yet retconned in Tony's love of Arthuriana. Tony offers to go fight Doom and Morgan with Arthur; meanwhile, Morgan and Doom have teamed up and Morgan has offered to help get Doom's mother out of hell if he commands her undead armies against Arthur because for Reasons she can't command them herself anymore. So that's a thing that happens.
So, yes, it's Tony and Arthur versus Doom and Morgan. Fight fight fight!
Tony tries Doom first but then decides to hunt Morgan down, and in the ensuing fight we get what I think is Tony's first ever "I hate magic," a complaint that we all know he still makes even to this day.
Anyway, Tony freezes a dragon with Freon (mmm, technology) and Morgan gets upset and disappears, so the battle comes to an end, and of course Doom is extremely mad at Tony because he blames Tony for Morgan not sticking around to save Doom's mom, because I guess Doom trusted her to keep her word? Weird. (Like I said, for the next chapter of Doom saving his mother, go read Triumph & Torment.)
Doom says if he and Tony work together, the components in both of their armors can send them both home. So Tony has to trust Doom. Which he does, because he really has no other choice. They build a time machine and Tony makes Doom agree to a 24-hour truce when they get back, so they can both get home. So it all works out okay, and they end up in the present, and Doom tells him, ominously, that they will meet again. Okay, then. That concludes the original Doomquest. It's fun! You can see why fandom likes it.
So that's all well and good, but you might have noticed that Tony's ability to get home hinged on Doom actually being trustworthy. And Doom was. But what if Doom hadn't been? What if he'd just stranded Tony in Camelot forever As you may have surmised from the form of that question, that is in fact a question Marvel asked themselves, because, yes, there's a What If about this! What If v1 #33 is "What if Iron Man was trapped in the time of King Arthur?"
The divergence point from canon, as you can probably guess, is the very end of Doomquest. Instead of Doom bringing Tony home, he deceives him and leaves him in Camelot. And since Tony cannibalized a lot of the tech from his armor to make the time machine, he doesn't have a way to go home.
This is not a story where Tony comes up with a way to go home after all. He really doesn't get to go home. But instead of drowning his sorrows in mead -- because, remember, Demon in a Bottle has already happened and Tony is sober now -- he decides he might as well just play the hand he's dealt. So with what's left of his armor, he defeats some enemies that Morgan rounds up to send against Camelot. And for his services, he's knighted. He is now Sir Anthony.
Tony acknowledges that he is both living the dream and would also like very, very much to go home.
He does end up having some fun in Camelot; it's not all miserable. But he obviously doesn't want to be there.
So if you're at all familiar with King Arthur, you know how this goes, right? Arthur fights Mordred and Mordred kills him. And that does happen in this version. Except Tony is right there, and with his dying words, Arthur asks Tony to rule Camelot... and Tony agrees.
So, yes, Tony Stark becomes king of the Britons after Arthur's death and he never goes home again. The end. Man, I love What Ifs.
Heading back to main 616 continuity, there is still more of this arc to go. The original Doomquest was only two issues, yes, but it was popular enough that Layton & Michelinie did a sequel a hundred issues later, in their second run of Iron Man, and that's Iron Man #249-250, Recurring Knightmare. (In the intervening issues were Denny O'Neil's IM run, specifically the second drinking arc (#160-200), and then Layton & Michelinie came back and most famously gave us Armor Wars (#225-232). I would have to say that Armor Wars is definitely the standout fandom-favorite arc of their second IM run; for their first one, I think a lot of people would have a hard time choosing between Doomquest and Demon.) But anyway, yes. Recurring Knightmare.
Recurring Knightmare is... well, the best way I can describe it is "a trip." It is definitely a sequel to Doomquest, and it is also definitely not a sequel you would ever have expected to see for Doomquest.
Much like #149, #249 is pretty much just setup. Fun setup, but the big action is in the next issue. We open with Doom in Latveria, on his throne, pondering which of his servants he should have disintegrated. Anyway, he's just hanging out there when a mysterious object appears. In California, Tony is suited up and entertaining the crowd at a mall opening when the same object also appears! He takes it to his lab. Please note that this is after the Kathy Dare incident, so Tony is still recovering and is walking with a cane. Doom sees on the news that Iron Man has found the same object, which cannot be carbon-dated, and he shows up at Tony's house. He criticizes Tony's taste in art.
Anyway, Doom basically orders Tony to work with him. Tony refuses, and then Doom sends some robots to attempt to steal Tony's version of the object because he thinks if he has them both he will be powerful. Doom manages to steal it, and when he puts the pieces together, both he and Tony disappear.
So where do they go, you might ask? Camelot?
Not exactly. The future! There is a great callback to the Doomquest splash page.
It turns out they are in London in 2093. Merlin brought them there. Tony still hates magic. And in the future, King Arthur is still there, except he is now a child, because he has been reborn. But he does remember Tony from Doomquest, at which point Tony kneels. Doom, of course, is not impressed. He asks why they have been brought to the future.
The answer is that things are going wrong in the future. If you do not personally remember United States politics in the 1980s, I need you to google the words "Strategic Defense Initiative" right now. I'll wait.
Back with me? Okay, so this is a future where Reagan's Star Wars program actually happened the way he wanted it to, and the satellites are still hanging around the Earth in the future and messing everything up, and Arthur and Merlin need Tony and Doom's help to stop them. Doom once again flies away with his jetpack, of course.
Tony is game to help, but he's not in an armor that can stay in space for long. This is when Merlin takes him and Arthur to the mall and Tony manages to get everything to upgrade his armor at Radio Shack. You see what I meant about this issue being weird.
Tony is out in space trying to disarm the SDI platform, which is where he runs into his future descendant, Andros Stark, who is in armor you will probably recognize from Iron Man 2020. He is referred to as "the resurrected spawn of Iron Man 2020" so I assume he's actually directly related to Arno rather than a direct descendant of Tony; Wiki confirms that Arno is his grandfather. This is all from way before Arno was contemporaneous with Tony in canon. Anyway, he's fighting Tony.
Oh, by the way, Future Doom exists. Future Doom would like to rule this future Earth and for some reason Andros would like to help him. Meanwhile, Present Doom finds out from Merlin that he can't leave except by magic and he can't leave without Tony, so he is reluctantly on Tony's side.
They need help from the Lady of the Lake, except the lake has been paved over and is now a parking lot. Merlin makes the lake come back and then of course they get Excalibur. Arthur is a kid, so he can't wield a longsword; Doom assumes he's going to take it because he is basically a king, and he's pretty grumpy when the sword picks Tony. Tony then uses Excalibur to destroy the space lasers, and I bet that is a sentence you never thought you would read. It's pretty cool. Tony concludes that magic has its good points. Tony stops Andros and Doom stops, uh, himself, and the world is saved and they get to go home. Also, Doom finds out Tony is Iron Man, but when Merlin sends them back he conveniently erases their memories, so neither of them remember anything about this and Tony's secret is still safe. And that's the sequel to Doomquest.
And if you think that's weird, wait until you see Legacy of Doom.
Iron Man: Legacy of Doom is a four-issue miniseries from 2008, also by Layton and Michelinie. Even though it's from 2008, it's set during a much more classic time in Iron Man, continuing on from where we left off in this Doomquest saga. We start with a framing story in 2008. Tony, who has Extremis now, is busy scrapping some of his older armors and reviewing his logs when he suddenly remembers that there was a whole thing with Doom that happened that he seems to have forgotten about until right now. So the whole thing is narrated by Tony in flashback.
Tony's in space fixing a satellite when a hologram of Doom shows up and summons him to Latveria. It's not really clear why Doom needs Tony's help in particular here, but Doom tells Tony that he's discovered that Mephisto would like to bring about the end of the world, which Doom finds, and I quote, "presumptive." So Doom has his Time Cube, and with it he takes Tony to hell.
(Yes, I promise this is relevant to Doomquest. There will be some Arthuriana shortly.)
Doom brings Tony to Mephisto, and it turns out it's a setup! Doom trades Tony for an item he wants from Mephisto, leaves, and Tony's going to be trapped in hell forever! Oh no! (I mean, he's not. But it's quite a cliffhanger.)
At the beginning of issue #2, we find out what the Arthurian connection is, which is that we learned that after the events of Doomquest, Morgan had been granted sanctuary by Mephisto in exchange for a shard of Excalibur that she had somehow stolen. Doom still wants Morgan's help with some magic -- he doesn't mention what it is here, but he says he needs someone of Pendragon blood, and that'd be her -- so he traded Tony to Mephisto in exchange for, I'm guessing, Morgan and the Excalibur shard.
I have probably mentioned this elsewhere, but Legacy of Doom #2 is one of my favorite issues of Iron Man ever, solely because of the next scene. We return to Tony in hell. Howard Stark is also in hell, and he is now a demon, and Tony has to fight him. Mephisto brings popcorn and watches. This is the one time in canon when Tony actually confronts his father, and okay, yes, it's a fistfight in hell and Howard is a demon, but that's comics for you. Howard spends several pages insulting Tony -- specifically insulting his masculinity, but that's a whole other essay -- until he finally insults Maria too, and that's when Tony fights back, because his mother taught him to be good. Honestly if you're a Tony fan I'd recommend this issue just for that scene.
Anyway, we go back to the Doom and Morgan plot, and Morgan casts the spell Doom wanted, which was fusing the Excalibur shard with Doom's armor. Then Doom sends her back to Camelot rather than hell, because he's still mad that she never helped him get his mom out of hell like she said she would.
Tony freezes Howard with Freon -- yes, the same trick he pulled on the dragon back in Doomquest -- and tells him, "You're no father of mine." It is immensely satisfying.
(I had been going to mention that I thought it was a shame that neither canon nor fandom seems to have really engaged with this confrontation, and I know canon never believes in narrative closure but fandom sure does -- and then, anyway, it occurred to me that since the framing story of Tony remembering this is set when Tony has Extremis, there's a very good chance that he no longer remembers remembering it. Goddammit, Marvel.)
(If I got to retcon one canon thing about Tony, I think "the entirety of World's Most Wanted" is up there. I mean, okay, a lot of things are up there, but WMW is definitely on the shortlist.)
Okay. Tony has now engineered his way out of hell, and he's back with Doom in Latveria. Doom has Excalibur. Doom would very much like to fight him. While wielding Excalibur. You get the sense that this is going to be bad. Another cliffhanger!
Legacy of Doom #3 opens with Tony destroying Doom's lab to buy time and running away from Doom and Excalibur. I should probably mention that Doom still doesn't know Tony is Iron Man (anymore), so he thinks he is dealing only with Iron Man, Tony Stark's lackey. Meanwhile, some scientists at SI think there's something weird going on with space. Meanwhile meanwhile, Tony is in a forest taking a breather when a mysterious old man walks up to him.
It's Merlin! Surprise! Merlin wants Tony's help to stop Doom from doing whatever he's doing with Excalibur. The sword makes you invincible and the scabbard makes you invulnerable, so Merlin sends Tony to Scotland on a fetch quest for the scabbard. Doom has now magically sent the sword in search of the scabbard, so the sword flies away to meet it and Doom follows. Turns out the thing that's wrong with space is a thing that's going to hit Earth at the exact place Tony and Doom are. What a coincidence! So Tony and Doom get trapped in a stone circle and fight some stone warriors and then Tony ends up with the scabbard. And by "ends up with," I mean it fuses to his armor. Next issue!
Legacy of Doom #4 is when things really, really get weird. A giant demon made of eyes (???) appears, and this demon is apparently what Doom had been preparing to fight (because it's mad that Doom stole one of its spellbooks), and now he can't, because the sword and the scabbard aren't together. Thanks, Shellhead.
That's when Merlin shows up and says all is not lost. They can defeat the demon... if they put the sword into the scabbard.
"But I'm the scabbard now!" Tony says, uncomprehending.
"Yes," Merlin says. "You are."
Then Tony gets it.
So, yes, Doom has to, um, penetrate Tony. With Excalibur. I love comics. I love comics so much.
So that's a thing that happens.
And then Tony flies off and, I guess, resolves to never, ever think about any of this again.
We head back to the framing story, in which Tony, now having remembered all of this, flies to Britain, buys the land the lake is on, and paves it over, presumably so it will be there for Merlin to bring back in Iron Man #250. The end.
Whew.
Okay, yeah, I know I didn't have to summarize the whole thing, but Legacy of Doom here really is one of my favorite Iron Man miniseries. And I just want to share the love. Please read it. It's great.
But the Arthuriana fun doesn't end there! In fact, now we get an Arthurian-themed arc that actually isn't in Iron Man comics. It's in Avengers! Iron Man is involved, though.
(There is also apparently a Morgan arc in Avengers #240. I actually haven't read it. It seems to be yet another Spider-Woman arc. I get the impression that this isn't really Arthuriana other than having Morgan in it fighting Jess, though, so it doesn't seem quite as relevant. Morgan also apparently has some appearances in FF, Journey into Mystery, and Marvel Team-Up, but those seem like more of just basic villainy. Also, probably not involving Tony.)
Kurt Busiek's 1998 Avengers run, volume 3, is in large part the kind of Avengers run that is a nostalgic love letter to older comics. Heroes are heroes and villains are villains and good triumphs over evil. The Avengers all live in the mansion and are BFFs. I love it. It does assume that you are already a fan of the Avengers, because it starts out by summoning pretty much everyone who has ever been an Avenger and is available to the mansion, and that is... a lot of people. Thirty-nine, by my count. Also, when the entire team is magically whisked away, we are treated to the following narration, as Steve disappears: "And Captain America's last thought, as the world goes white around him, and he with it -- is that Iron Man would hate this."
The narration doesn't tell you why Iron Man would hate this, or how Captain America would know that Iron Man hates this. This is not explained later on. But if you have read comics -- or if you have read the above summary of Doomquest -- you know that Tony is absolutely, one hundred percent, thinking, "I hate magic." And Steve knows it.
The reference is not relevant to the plot; if you don't get it, you'll be fine. But that's what I mean when I say this is a nostalgia run. There are definitely Easter eggs for people who have read a bunch of comics. Busiek does this a whole lot in his work -- there's a reason you can buy an annotated edition of Marvels -- and, yeah, it happens here too. Just know that there will be references you're not getting, if you're new to comics.
Anyway. So Busiek's run actually starts out with an Arthurian arc, #1-4, "The Morgan Conquest." The name is a dead giveaway. Yes, Morgan le Fay is back. Again. For once, Doom is not involved.
The Avengers are all back from their sojourn on Counter-Earth after fighting Onslaught -- don't worry about it -- and mysterious things are happening. There are a lot of monster attacks. So pretty much everyone who has ever been an Avenger is summoned to the mansion, at which point we learn from Thor about some mystical artifacts that are being stolen. (They are the Norn Stones and also the Twilight Sword. That sounds like something from a Zelda game, doesn't it?) The Avengers go to try to stop this, end up in Tintagel, and then they run into Mordred. He wants to capture Wanda, presumably for Magic Reasons. Morgan le Fay casts a spell on all of them, reshaping reality. Yes, all of them. Surprise!
So now all the Avengers are living in a medieval castle and/or town; Morgan is their queen, and thanks to the power of mind-control they are all basically living in Ye Olden Times. The Avengers are all some variety of knight, except for Wanda, who is chained up in the dungeon so Morgan can steal her magic and use it to fuel all this reality-warping.
Wanda calls for help, and that snaps Steve (Yeoman America!) out of the mind control (or altered reality or whatever you want to call it) pretty fast, because Steve's always been very good at resisting mind control, and then Steve promptly goes and snaps Clint out of it, because I guess Steve is also good at inspiring people to snap out of mind control. "Oh, man!" Clint says. "Not another alternate reality! Not again!" (I assume he's referring to Counter-Earth? Maybe?)
So Steve and Clint go around reassembling the Avengers and orienting them as to reality. They get Jan and Monica easily, but then Steve insists on trying to get Tony because, I guess, he likes Tony and would really like to hang around Tony, who is half-naked and asleep in his bedroom, and certainly I am reading nothing whatsoever into this. Clint tells Steve it's not going to work. Tony has historically been fairly susceptible to mind control; it was only pretty recently at this point that he'd been doing Kang's bidding in The Crossing. But the more serious impediment is that this is Tony Stark and he would obviously like to LARP being a knight forever and ever. Tony, therefore, does not believe Steve, and throws him and Clint out of his bedroom and into the barracks.
"Iron Man's a good guy, normally," Clint says. "But he's waaay too into his whole nobleman/lord of the manor trip. That spell musta hit him right where he lives!"
Clint speaks the truth, clearly.
Anyway, they go around and manage to make pretty much every Avenger in the room other than Tony snap out, and attempt to rebel against Morgan while Tony is stil fighting them because he is Still A Knight. There's a lot of punching, because some of the Avengers still aren't free; they weren't ones Steve found.
The day is saved when Wanda manages to channel Wonder Man and break free. This gives the Avengers a fighting chance against Morgan and the Avengers are all lending Wanda their power when Tony finally snaps out of it and is on the side of good.Â
Then they take Morgan down, go home, and attempt to figure out which of these thirty-nine people should be on the active Avengers team. Hooray.
But that's not the end of Morgan le Fay showing up to screw around with Tony's life! There's more to come! Not much, but there is one that I know of, and at least one more memorable reference.Â
(I haven't read all her appearances or anything, but one of them definitely involves Tony; I can't swear that he doesn't appear in any of the other books Morgan shows up in, but it'd be a cameo for him, because I only know of one more arc that she's in in a book that Tony stars in.)
In a few more years, we have now entered the part of Marvel Comics history where Brian Michael Bendis writes all the Avengers books at the same time for, like, seven years running. It was sure A Time. There were a lot of word bubbles.
And the thing about Bendis is, Bendis looooooves Doomquest. If you're familiar with the very end of his tenure at Marvel where he made Doom be Iron Man after Tony got knocked into a coma in Civil War II, you have probably figured out already that he likes Doom. But he also likes Doomquest, specifically.
I mean, if nothing else, the giant splash page in The Confession where Maleev redrew the climactic Doomquest fight while Bendis had Tony talk about how deeply meaningful to his understanding of the world this all was -- and how it allowed him to predict Civil War -- was probably a big clue, right?
As far as I am aware, Morgan le Fay makes exactly one more appearance in Tony's life. And that's in Mighty Avengers vol 1 #9-11. Only one of those issues is named, so I'm going to assume the arc is named after it: Time Is On No One's Side.
You remember Mighty Avengers, right? The deal with the Avengers books at the time was that after Bendis exploded the mansion and made the team disband in Avengers Disassembled, the main Avengers book was no longer called just Avengers. Instead, the main Avengers book was New Avengers, and that was the only Avengers book. Then Civil War happened, Steve got killed, and New Avengers became the book about what was left of the SHRA resistance (i.e., Steve's side) after the war. So about halfway through New Avengers, Mighty Avengers starts up, and Mighty Avengers is about an extremely fucked-up and grief-stricken Tony Stark trying to run the official government-sanctioned Avengers team, with Carol's help. This is the comic with the arc where Tony turned into naked girl Ultron. You remember.
So, anyway, there's this Mighty Avengers arc where Doom is Up To Something (there are symbiotes and a satellite involved) and somehow Tony and the Avengers end up in Latveria, punching Doom. Also, by the way, Doom is visiting Morgan in the past because he likes her. The Avengers attacking his castle made him have to come back to the present, so he's kind of cranky. And he fights Tony, and in the course of the fight, his time platform explodes and sends Doom and Tony and also the Sentry to... the past.
This is one of those times where you should definitely look up the comics if possible because the way the past is visually indicated here is that it's colored with halftone dots the way you would expect old comics to be colored, although they have modern shading and color palettes. It's very charmingly retro.
So the three of them are stuck in New York in the past, and naturally they would like to leave. There's one person in this time who has a time machine and it is, of course, Reed Richards. Doom and Tony have a lot of banter in this arc; I think it's entertaining.
Sentry has to be the one to break them all into the Baxter Building because of that power he has where no one will remember him. So they do that, travel forward in time, and end up in Latveria in the present again except Doom is gone and also things are currently exploding where they are.
Doom, of course, has made a side trip to visit Morgan again and he asks her to help him build an army, because I guess this is what their relationship is like. So the rest of the Avengers are captured by what look to me like Mindless Ones and are in a cave in magic bondage, because comics. Jess comments that at least they aren't naked, because she too is remembering that memorable New Avengers trip to the Savage Land. Doom threatens Carol in some creepy sexist ways and eventually it turns out that Tony and the Sentry are fine and everyone kicks Doom's ass. Business as usual.
And the last page of the arc is Morgan alone, wondering where Doom is. So technically Morgan and Tony don't come face to face here, but I think she counts as being at least partially responsible for ruining Tony's day here. And then Secret Invasion happens and Tony has a very, very bad day.
There are a few more Morgan appearances after this, but, as I said, I don't think any of them involve Tony. She shows up in Dark Avengers, apparently, which was one of the post-Civil War Avengers titles I didn't read, and I know that recently, on the X-Men side of things, she's been in Tini Howard's Excalibur one, which I have only read a little of. No Tony there. Just a lot of Morgan and Betsy Braddock and Brian Braddock and the Otherworld.
If you are interested in Morgan's other appearances, you might like this Marvel listicle that is Morgan le Fay's six most malicious acts. I pulled some of the Darkhold backstory from their discussion, but it's not really focused on Morgan and Tony.
So there you have it! That's everything I know about Tony's love for King Arthur and every run-in I know about that he's had with Morgan le Fay! One of two terrible people in Tony's life named Morgan! Actually, I don't think we've seen Morgan Stark in a while. I wonder if he's alive. There should be a Morgan & Morgan team-up. I should probably stop typing and post this.
The tl;dr point is that you should all read Doomquest and its sequels, especially Legacy of Doom. They're great!

Sizeshifter! Bad continuation part 3
âââââ
Bad ran away, tears rolling down his face, blurring his vision. He didnât want to be a monster, he didnât want to hurt his best friend or destroy the home they shared. The giant fell to his knees âSgeppy...sgeppy...â he sobbed, tremors rattling his body. Skeppy had always been there to comfort him..
He sniffled. Bad didnât know if he could return to the diamond boy...this time he really messed up. He knew he wasnât safe to be around...he wiped the tears that were fogging his vision and there was the vacation house the two best friends built together...he mustâve ran here instinctively..but he was much too big to fit inside. Heâd needed to find shelter elsewhere...
Skeppy was still in the badlands. The whole community had heard the mansion being destroyed. Puffy was the first to rush over, only to find Skeppy...who was alone. One look from the man and she already knew what happened...she was well aware of Badâs size shifting problem.
âHeâll be back soonâ Puffy said. âHe probably just needs some space, heâll come back tomorrow when he has it under control againâ She placed a hand on skeppys shoulder, and he quickly jerked away.
âWe donât know that! Bad does stupid stuff when heâs emotional! He probably thinks that I hate him now...What if he doesnât come back!?â Skeppy went into the half destroyed mansion. He grabbed a diamond sword from the chest.
Puffy tried to reason with Skeppy as he was leaving. She told him âthereâs too many mobsâ and âbad will come back by morningâ He tried to ignore her but finally snapped.
âIâm bads best friend! Not you! You donât know what youâre talking about! And if finding bad means I get shot by a skeleton then so be it!â He quickly turned and followed the giant footsteps his friend left in the dirt. But Skeppy already had an idea of where his best friend went...
â
He had been walking for awhile, his feet ached and he realized he forgot to bring food...he was down to a couple baked potatoes. He was forced to walk to conserve his energy.
Skeppy got lost a few times and had a few narrow escapes from creepers and zombies..maybe puffy was right...But the journey was almost over, he recognized he was close to the vacation house. He started to sprint, surely bad was close by? His world suddenly turned upside down as he fell into a cave. He was lucky he was made out of diamond. If anyone else fell as far as he just did they would have broken their legs. âFuck...owwwie...â he whined. It still hurt..Skeppy sighed a finished off the rest of his baked potatoes to regain his strength.
His eyes turned towards the night sky and he sighed. He really really shouldâve listened to puffy. Now he was stuck...the cave was huge. He doesnât even remember a cave like this being here, why didnât he notice it before. Then the familiar sound of bones rattling against each other echoed throughout the cavern. Skeppy readied his sword as the skeleton stepped into the dim moonlight. It drew its bow, aiming at the diamond boy.
Before Skeppy could try to dodge the attack a giant hand appeared from the darkness of the cave and crushed the mob.
âSkeppy! What is wrong with you!? You couldâve gotten hurt! Why did you come look for me at night of all times?! Besides itâs dangerous to be around me right now! Please go back home! You never listen to me!â Badâs stern lecture slowly turned into shouting and Skeppy saw his friend grow ever so slightly.
âBad...Iâm sorry, I was just worried about you! You canât just leave me and run off like that!â He was honestly just relieved he found his best friend. âSo itâs your fault Iâm here in the first placeâ He said before biting his tongue, regretting his words...it was only instinct for him to wile the other up a little but now definitely wasnât the time.
âM-my fault?! âOh donât you dare!â
âN-no I didnât mean it like that bad! Iâm sorry okay?! Iâm sorrryyyâ he pleaded, âplease, Iâm sorry, I donât want to fight with you right now.â He tried to stand but his aching leg decided he was still going to be sitting for awhile. âFuck...â he groaned again.
âLang- sgeppy?! Youâre hurt!?â Bad carefully scooped up his friend to inspect him.
Skeppy squirmed a bit in his hold. âY-yeah, Iâm fine though donât worry...I just fell into this cave because I was being an idiot and not looking...haha..â bad grew another foot. âBad...Iâm really okayâ
The demon averted his eyes. âI dug this cave...itâs my fault you got hurt...itâs my fault our home is destroyed, itâs might fault you almost got crushed by me! Twice!â
Skeppys eyes widened. âNo! No! Itâs not, bad! I donât blame you! I know you canât control it. Itâs not your fault. Plus Iâll be fine and we can rebuild the house!â
âWhy so I can just wreck it again...?â
âIf you wreck it again weâll just rebuild it again!â
âWell as I am right now I canât even fit in the mansion..â
âWe can rebuild the mansion to be even bigger than before!â Skeppy said enthusiastically, trying to cheer up the other.
âSkeppy! You arenât taking this seriously!â
âI am! I mean it! We can make the mansion way bigger and-â
âNo sgeppy!â
âBad...â
âIm staying here Sgeppy...â
âNo youâre not, Iâm not letting you stay in this shitty cave!â
Bad glared at his friend and sighed. He gently set Skeppy down and reached into his pocket. He pulled out a diamond block and set it on the ground. His hand raised before slamming down onto the precious ore. When his hand lifted again it revealed shattered diamond rumble. âIâm too dangerous...even for you...â
Skeppy was sitting, arms crossed, looking completely unimpressed by the display. âThatâs stupid, I know youâre not gonna hurt me. You love me too muchâ he giggled
Bad stared dumbfounded before shrieking. âWhat the muffin is wrong with you?!...ugh...Sgeppy..â
âNothing you say is gonna change my mind, bad, Iâm not letting you live out here alone. If you insist on living in this cave then I guess i will have to move in.â
â...sgeppyyyyyyyâ
âBaaaaaaaadâ
âMuffins...Iâll never forgive myself if something happens to you..â
âI already said you wonât hurt meâ
âNot on purpose!...but I canât control..it..â he sniffled as he recalled how scared he felt when he nearly crushed Skeppy.
Skeppys heartstrings ached. He hated nothing more than seeing Bad cry. He slowly stood up and limped over to his friend, placing his much smaller hand on the others. âIts gonna be ok, bad. Weâll figure this out.â
Bad picked up his friend gently and brought him close to his chest, the best attempt at a hug he could do at this size. The demon was still silently sobbing.
Skeppy leaned into the warmth of his friend and continued to spew comforting words until he heard Badâs sniffling stop. Soon after that sleep claimed his exhausted mind

hypnotic | part one
paring: vampire!im jaebeom x reader
genre: angst, eventual smut (part two), vampire au
warnings: language, cringey vampire cliches iâm sure
word count: 9,800+
summary: jaebeom has been waiting 200 years to find his mate - the one who can break his trance and isnât affected by his hypnotic abilities. You donât seem to be that person, but he just canât seem to get you out of his mind⌠why?Â
a/n: hello guys! so i originally had this planned to post tomorrow (the 30th) but it was so long i decided to split it up and post one part today and the other part on the 31st! This first part is mostly Jaebeom and not a lot of Y/N but SO BE IT. This is also my first time writing in the genre of vampire/fantasy loL so please forgive me because itâll probably be cringe and not make sense. if thatâs the case lol drop me a message!! also vampire jaebeom was requested FOREVER ago. so here it is practically 3 decades later. and i attempted to make a banner. if someone can make me a better one itâs v much WELCOME.
part two
Knock Knock KnockÂ
He wished he could just pretend like he was asleep. He wished he could use that as an excuse to not answer the door, but based on the very strong feeling he was getting from who was behind it â that wouldnât work.Â
âI know youâre in there! Just answer the damn door Jaebeom!â
Jaebeom rolled his eyes, leave it to Bambam to be at his front door before the day even had a chance to truly begin. Before letting him in, he went through all the possible things or excuses he could use to get out of whatever his younger friend had in mind.
âIs your vintage YSL here or is it still at the dry cleaners?â Bambam asked, pushing past Jaebeom as soon as he has the door partway open.
Gruffly, Jaebeom turned back into his apartment to Bambam already halfway to his bedroom â no doubt to look through his closet, âWhat are you doing here Bam?âÂ
âWhat does it look like? Iâm here for the vintage YSL asshole!âÂ
Heâs learned by now that itâs better to let him do his thing â whatever that may mean. So instead of following Bambam, he plopped down onto the same couch heâs had for nearly 15 years. âYou know when I first bought that shirt it wasnât considered vintage!â
Jaebeom waited for a response, but instead, he was met with silence. After a few moments â many of them thinking about how maybe it was time to replace the couch â he felt his âvintageâ YSL button-down hit him in the face.Â
He groaned; the impact was surely going to create wrinkles in the material he tried to keep in pristine condition. It was ironic since he was often heard making fun of how much Bambam cared about clothes, but Jaebeom liked to keep his things nice. âBam I just got it back from getting cleaned a couple of days ago.â
âPut it on.âÂ
The tone of his friendâs voice seemed rather impatient. If he had closed his eyes, Jaebeom would have thought he was talking to Jinyoung or even himself.Â
âWhy do I need to put it on? Itâs 8 in the morning; where are we going?â
âUm excuse me? Did you forget what day it was? Now come on, weâre meeting Jinyoung at that new cafĂŠ down the street in fifteen.â
He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion, trying to picture the cafĂŠ on the mental map he keeps in his mind, âthe one that used to be a video store in the 90s?â
Bambam made his way into the living room, picking up a few glasses that rested on the coffee table Jaebeomâs feet were on top of, and marched over to the small kitchen. Jaebeom has lived in this apartment more years than heâd like to admit, especially because enough time had passed that the neighbors he had were clearly aging and he just stayed 26. The thought of moving somewhere new often enters his mind, but with this place, he just canât bring it in himself to go quite yet. Itâs almost as though something is tying him to this city, this place â like heâs waiting for something.
âYes, and a speakeasy in the 20s both of which are not important right now because we live in the 21st century Jaebeom. Now come on, Jinyoungâs waiting â that asshole is always early.âÂ
He heard Bambam mumble something along the lines of known him 100 years, would it kill him to just be on time for once, as he furiously dropped the glasses on the kitchen counter.
âDo I have to go?âÂ
Bambam paused his motions of putting Jaebeomâs dirty dishes into the sink to stare the older vampire down, âJaebeom you only turn 200 once.âÂ
He scoffed in response, âJesus donât remind me.â
âWe have to make a whole day of it! So please just put the shirt on, because I want you looking presentable,â he stopped in the middle of his sentence, suddenly wiggling his eyebrows, âyou never know what could happen.â The final word is drawn out, almost sing-song like and it drives Jaebeom up the wall because he knows exactly what Bambam is referencing.
For Jaebeom and those like Jaebeom, they didnât consider the day they were born as their birthday, but instead as the day they turned. There was no point in celebrating their birth anymore as they were no longer alive. However, at this point after 200 birthdays, â alive and dead combined - Jaebeom was beginning to believe that there was no point to those either. He always knew being immortal was a curse but day by day that idea was only solidifying itself in his mind. Â
Jaebeom let out a gruff breath which only made Bambam look up from the fork he was scrubbing, âBam I donât know what you think is going to happen today⌠but it certainly isnât that.âÂ
The âthatâ he was referencing was one of the main factors that as of late had made him feel like living forever was indeed a waste. It was the thing that was supposed to make him feel âcomplete.â According to old texts and traditional vampire folklore, he was now walking around half full, but once he met his mate, he would become whole. At first, he didnât believe the tale. He had gotten by so far without a mate that the idea of him not being complete made him laugh. But watching both Bambam and Jinyoung find their mates â Bambam 70 years ago and Jinyoung 16 years ago â made him finally acknowledge and reflect on the piece of himself he was missing.Â
And fuck he was lonely.Â
Bambam chuckled at him as if being in on his own personal joke. His friend was strange like that sometimes, âjust put the shirt on Jaebeom.âÂ
By the time heâs had the shirt on and Bambam has somehow convinced him to let him wear his Rolex he got as a gift from his friend Jackson in 1920, Jaebeom feels mentally prepared to leave the house and embark on this dreadful day. The reminder that he has now been around for 200 years and still is not whole.
âFinally,â Jinyoung sighed when Jaebeom and Bambam finally reached the cafĂŠ down the street, âIâve been waiting 20 minutes.âÂ
A disgruntled Bambam checks his watch, âwell if you donât want to wait every single time, donât be so fucking early,â he promptly turned to Jaebeom to share his grief regarding their friend, âyou think he would learn after all this time.âÂ
âLetâs just go order,â Jaebeom shrugged, not caring to be in another disagreement between his longer than life friends.
âBe honest youâre early on purpose just so it gives you something to complain about and a reason to make us feel bad!âÂ
Jinyoung ignored Bambamâs theory, replying to the oldest, âno need. I already ordered for the three of us. Itâs a special day, the birthday boy doesnât need to pay,â he glanced at Bambam, âyou on the other handâŚâÂ
The two new arrivals, flop down into the sofa chairs on either side of Jinyoung, along of them situated to make a half-circle in front of a low coffee table. The three of them had somehow stuck into this⌠pattern. Years of friendship that contained years of Bambam/Jinyoung squabbles that Jaebeom would often have to mediate. Patterns were nice, but sometimes they would get old â especially after so long.Â
As the two of them argue over whether or not Bambam should pay Jinyoung back for a simple iced Americano because Bam swears he got the drinks the last two times, Jaebeom looks over to the counter where the baristas work on â no doubt â the plethora of orders they have. The factor of the cafĂŠ being new has certainly been the cause of the popularity and amount of people in the shop. He canât help but feel bad for the individuals working on the drinks â three years ago he had been one of them for roughly 18 months and knew that it wasnât as easy as it appeared to be.Â
In retrospect, Jaebeom didnât have to work. He had so much time to learn and understand what it meant to be financially responsible. Not only that, but heâs literally had hundreds of years to save. Plus, his early investments in companies ended up landing him some pretty substantial and valuable shares. Jaebeom was sitting on quite the pretty penny.Â
âWow your portfolio is remarkable⌠Iâve never seen one like it,â his latest financial advisor had said to him in complete awe, âI mean an early investor in Amazon? Apple? Mastercard?âÂ
Jaebeom had laughed nervously, âWhat can I say? My grandpa had good intuition, I guess.âÂ
Money aside, he had wanted something to do with his time â hence his barista job. It was fun, but like most things, Jaebeom just grew tired of it and as he watched the girl working the espresso machine let out an exhausted breath, he realized that he wasnât missing it.Â
Jaebeom has become good at studying people. It was something he still wasnât sure of whether it was a vampire thing or just something he had picked up over time. Watching the girl at the machine, her hair is in a low bun, a few strands falling in front of her face. Itâs clear with the way the hair tie is situated, that the hairstyle was once a bit neater, tighter, and sat at the middle or even top of her head. However, the now fallen placement and slight disarray signal how busy sheâs been working and how fried she must be feeling.Â
He looks to the string bracelet on her wrist, visible from far away enough for Jaebeom to conclude that she must have someone in her life deemed important to wear one of those âfriendshipâ bracelets. He never saw the point, but humans were strange creatures, despite him once being one.Â
Jaebeomâs breath hitches when he catches sight of the delicately drawn tattoo on her wrist near the bracelet. Itâs of lavender and it immediately reminds him of his mother who had loved exploring the lavender field that had been near his home when he was a child. Despite all the time that has passed since he lost his mother, the pain that aches inside of Jaebeom when he thinks of her isnât any less.Â
His thoughts are interrupted by the call at the coffee bar, âOrder for Jinyoung.âÂ
The call comes from the overworked girl he had been studying and Jaebeom wants more than anything to stand up and retrieve their orders. He finds a weird want to hear what her laugh sounds like. Maybe he could say something or strike up a conversation that would-
âWhat are you doing?â It takes Jaebeom a moment to notice that he has partially stood up from his chair as if heâs about to go somewhere. Cluelessly, he replied, âgoing to get the drinks.â
The youngest shook his head, âNo way! Birthday boys donât get their drinks, they donât lift a finger.âÂ
He knew Bambam was one to take birthdays seriously, but this was beginning to feel like it was going the extra mile too many.Â
âIâll get it.âÂ
Jaebeom watched Bambam get up to retrieve the drinks. He expects him to just grab the drinks and return to the table, but instead, Bambam says something to the girl. Arching his neck to the side, he tries to make a clear path to eavesdrop on whatâs being said, hearing being one of the benefits of turning. Unfortunately, the cafĂŠ is too loud for him to focus on the conversation and heâs defeated by the fact that heâll have to stay in the dark.
The girl laughs loudly at something Bambam said and Jaebeom canât help but feel mixed about it. On one hand, he got his wish â hearing her laugh â but on the other hand, he wasnât the cause of it. For some reason it makes him bring his clench and unclench his fists which rest on the arms of the sofa chair. Jinyoung takes notice.
Jaebeom quickly looks down at his lap when he senses that Bambam is returning to where theyâre sat, not wanting to give away that he had been staring. First, he places Jinyoungâs and his drink on the table, soon turning back around to go back and fetch the last drink â Jaebeomâs.Â
When he comes back, Jaebeom looks up to see a large grin spread across the youngestâs face. He has that look again â the one as if he knows a joke Jaebeom doesnât.Â
The latter nodded his head in thanks for getting the drinks as he inspects his green tea on the table. Just as heâs about to pick up the mug, heâs stopped in his tracks by an announcement coming from the coffee bar.Â
âHello everyone! Sorry for the interruption, but Iâve been told that we have a birthday here today,â you said. Giving announcements wasnât your strong suit, but you figured now that you were an actual owner of something, you were going to get over your shyness. But you didnât think it was going to be that often that a tall, skinny and pale boy with a Rolex on his wrist would be asking you to get your coffee shop to sing happy birthday for his friend. Even when you were a barista working for someone else no one had made such a request. This was a cafĂŠ after all, not an Applebeeâs.
Jaebeom wished more than anything that he could sink into his seat and just disappear. If only that clichĂŠ that vampires turned into bats were true, then he could just fly away at a momentâs notice. Leave it to Bambam to torture him like this. It wasnât intentional of course, but it certainly felt like it to Jaebeom.Â
It was especially tragic to him because the girl he had been studying was the one leading the entire cafĂŠ in singing âHappy Birthday.â He did his best to avoid looking at her, feeling like his entire body was heating up in embarrassment even though he couldn't heat up.Â
You on the other hand felt a little insulted by the birthday boyâs lack of eye contact. You hadnât even managed to get a good look at him before you started singing and now it was not possible with the way that he was looking down at the ground, his long hair falling in front of his face, concealing itself to you. It wasnât difficult to conclude that he felt awkward about a bunch of strangers he had never met singing him happy birthday, you had felt the same whenever your friends tried to ambush you on your birthday⌠but you at least looked up and acknowledged the presence of the people singing. A tight smile from this guy would even be happily accepted.Â
When the song is over and the claps that follow finally subside, he looks up to see the cafĂŠ back at its previous state of normalcy, not a single person looking at him anymore. Jaebeom lets out a sigh of relief.Â
âYou could at least act like you liked it,â Bambam huffed in annoyance. He wished Jaebeom could appreciate the idea of birthdays like he did.Â
âI really didnât need to be the center of attention today Bam.âÂ
âBut itâs your bir-â Bambam begins to explain, but Jaebeom abruptly cuts him off, not wanting to hear his reasoning for todayâs antics, yet again. The day hadnât even started.
âMy birthday, I know. Thanks for reminding me.âÂ
Jinyoung clears his throat and plays with the spoon that came with his Flat White. Just as Jaebeom is the mediator for Bambam and Jinyoung, sometimes Jinyoung has to be the mediator for Jaebeom and Bambam. Essentially the commonality in the disagreements of their trio friendship is Bambam and currently, Jinyoung feels as though he should route the conversation elsewhere.
âWhat else is in the cards for tonight then boys?âÂ
Itâs then based on the look on Jaebeomâs face, that Jinyoung thinks that maybe talking about the plans for tonight â on Jaebeomâs birthday â isnât re-routing the conversation. Especially since itâs Bambamâs whose eyes light up and is the one to reply to him.
âObviously weâre going out tonight,â Bambam paused and turned to Jaebeom, wagging his finger in the latterâs face, âthereâs no way youâre getting out of this. Iâm not taking no for an answer this time.â
Jaebeom rolled his eyes and didnât respond as he knew he didnât have a choice in the matter. He had rejected Bambamâs invitations to go out consistently for the last 6 months and on his birthday of all days, Bam was going to force him out of the house just as he had done this morning to come to the cafĂŠ.
He looks back to the front counter, his eyes searching for the barista who has now suddenly disappeared. A frown begins to make itself known on his face, feeling a bit disappointed by the fact that she may have left already or gone elsewhere, but soon sheâs popping up from behind the counter, no doubt getting something from the cabinets below. Jaebeom feels relief.Â
âWhat did you say to her?â he asked suddenly looking back at Bambam.
He cocked his head to the side, confused, âWhat did I say to who?âÂ
âThe barista behind the counter.âÂ
His friend nodded his head slowly, suddenly realizing what Jaebeom means. A smirk appears on his face, ânothing much⌠Just how it was your birthday and it would be really good if we could all embarrass you by singing about it. Sheâs not a barista, by the way, she owns the place. Kinda backward thinking there Jae. Itâs the 21st century, women can own things now, they can vote.âÂ
âI know that,â Jaebeom hissed.Â
Bambam puts up his hands in defeat, âIâm just making sure.âÂ
âDonât you know her?â Jinyoung asked, âisnât that why we came here?âÂ
Jaebeomâs interests are perked. Itâs not often that the three of them meet new people. Itâs not like thereâs a huge point to it. The last new person the three of them met was Mark â also a vampire â a bartender at their favorite club in the city, but that was in 2007.Â
He waits for Bambamâs explanation as to how he knows this girl and why they came here specifically beside it just being near Jaebeomâs apartment.Â
Waving his hand nonchalantly, the Thai boy gives his answer, âI donât really know her. Minji does. Met her in some kind of class, I think. SoulCycle? Pilates? Zumba? I donât know. I canât keep up with her and her activities these days.âÂ
Minji is Bambamâs mate. He had turned her only a month after they met.Â
Jaebeomâs not sure what he would do if he met his mate. He doesnât know if he would want to subject them to turning and living the same kind of life as him, but he also doesnât know if he could continue life alone after meeting his mate. If he ever meets them.
âWhy the curiosity?â Jinyoung asked, for once finding it hard to remain stone-faced. Even his usual chill, non-revealing demeanor seems to fade away when it appears that his older friend might be attracted to someone.Â
Jaebeom simply shrugged, âitâs nothingâŚâÂ
âWhat do you think? Could she be the one?â Bambam asked teasingly, pointing to the girl behind the counter.Â
Jinyoung rolled his eyes almost immediately at the younger boy, âif youâre going to keep bothering him about it, donât make it so obvious idiot.âÂ
Jaebeom had been alive â or more like undead â for 200 years and more than half of that time he had to listen to this same conversation from his friends over and over again. His patience was wearing thin and 180 years later, he was tired of their pestering.Â
He leaned forward slowly and grabbed his green tea off the table, making sure to visibly flinch at the heat of the drink, Bambam, and Jinyoung chuckling at his reaction. Out of the three of them, Jaebeom certainly had the most practice when it came to âputting on a showâ for the humans and âactingâ the most human. Taking a sip, he looked back at the girl behind the counter.Â
The youngest vampire had spent many of their outings and conversations hypothesizing who Jaebeomâs mate could be. Despite being the oldest of the three, Jaebeom was the only one left who still hadnât found his mate and he was beginning to feel hopeless. Typically, Bambam pointed out any human girl as a candidate â all of them of course ended up not being his mate. Therefore, Jaebeom didnât pay attention to his picks anymore, but he had to admit⌠He did get a strange feeling from the girl behind the counter.Â
Jaebeom looked to you, hoping to catch your gaze as you quickly made the coffee orders for the few people waiting to the side of the cash register. Just when he was about to give up and focus his attention back on his friends, you tore your concentration away from the drink in your hand and looked up at him from across the cafe.Â
Jaebeom focused his gaze deep onto you with his eyes â testing, checking, and trialing your focus. You didnât look away, instead, you trained your eyes deeply into his and stared at him until finally, it was Jaebeom who broke the contact.Â
He shook his head at his friends, disappointed by your inability to break the trance and ultimately confused at the feeling he still got from you despite that.Â
Jaebeom took another sip of the tea, âitâs not her.âÂ
âDid you have to debate that Uber driver on the Twilight franchise?â Jinyoung groaned at Bambam as soon as theyâre out of the car.Â
The entire twenty-minute ride, he had got into a heated discussion with their driver on how Twilight was not âtrueâ or realistic to most actual vampire folklore. It had been an excruciating thing to listen to.Â
âGot to stand up for our kind dude.âÂ
âOkay, but what happens when she starts asking how you know all these things or why youâre so interested in vampire stuff?â Jinyoung tended to always be right. This wasnât an exception.
Brushing off his pants, Bambam gives him a nonchalant wave, âchill out man. Everyone loves vampire stuff.âÂ
âMaybe in 2008,â Jaebeom said just barely loud enough for his friends to hear them. The two of them laughed, Bambam shoving him playfully on the shoulder, âBirthday boy getting funny on us.âÂ
âI was always funny,â Jaebeom deadpanned.Â
âFunny and looking good tonight. Letâs get you laid, shall we?âÂ
After a day that was jampacked full of various activities planned by his youngest friend, the last thing Jaebeom wanted to do was spend extra energy on trying to get some girl to come home with him tonight. Besides, he wasnât that guy anymore.Â
Jinyoung scoffed, âhe doesnât need to get laid tonight.â
âYes, he does! Jaebeom how long has it been?âÂ
This time itâs Jinyoung that shoves Bambamâs shoulder â except itâs not all that playful.Â
âFine donât answer that, but Iâm just saying there will be quite a few girls here that you can have your pick of, despite your plain outfit.âÂ
Jaebeom looked at the clothes he had changed into when Bambam spared him a sliver of time to go back home to digress and feed his cats. The latter had wanted him to borrow clothes of his, but instead, Jaebeom decided on pulling pieces from his closet that felt more like him, less like Bambam. A plain pair of ripped jeans, an oversized black shirt that he had bought at a shop from his trip to London last year, and his motherâs necklace that often wasnât missing from its spot around his neck.
Bambamâs earlier critique was that he was dressed too basic and that no girls would bat an eye at him. Girls donât like plain guys, he had said. The comment makes Jaebeom wonder about you and whether youâd fall under the category of not liking âplainâ guys.Â
He bites the inside of his cheek. It was probably the eighth time he had made himself do it today. Jaebeom had found his mind often drifting to you throughout the day for some unexplainable reason. During their walk in the park, he wondered if you would take strolls during your breaks from the cafĂŠ or when Bambam forced him to go paint pottery for an hour and a half he thought about what you would paint. It frustrated him because he hadnât even spoken to you â not a word and yet you were clearly on his mind for one reason or another. It wasnât even like you were his mate. He had tried to see if you were unaffected by his trance, his hypnotic capabilities, but you had just stared at him completely fixated just as everyone else was.Â
Jaebeom was not going to think about you any longer. He was already planning on avoiding your cafĂŠ.Â
âWeâre on the list,â Bambam tells the bouncer when they arrive at the entrance of the club. He scans the list and motions his head towards the direction of the door to signal to the three of them to go on ahead. Thereâs a bit of a whine coming from the people waiting in line which admittedly so makes Jaebeom feel a little guilty, but Bambam ensures him itâs fine, âwhy have a friend who works at a club if we canât use him for the perks?âÂ
âWhy does he keep bartending again?â As soon as the question is out of Jaebeomâs mouth he realizes it was a stupid thing to ask since the answer is apparent.Â
Bambam laughed at him, giving his long â irreplaceable heâd like to remind everyone â leather coat to the person at the front of the club. Jaebeom swears he hears him tell the coat check guy the âproperâ way to put it on a hanger.Â
âObviously for the girls Jaebeom.âÂ
Markâs mate â Hana had passed on a long time ago. Jaebeom had never got the chance to meet her, only hears about her in passing from some stories that Mark has told the three of them. He hadnât turned her. Jaebeomâs never asked why.Â
âGirls⌠of course.âÂ
He canât help but think about how Mark must feel inside. Although Jaebeom doesnât know him as well as he knows Bambam and Jinyoung, whenever heâs with the older boy heâs always got a smile on his face. Often quiet, but heâs always got certain energy bouncing off of him that would indeed make him popular with women. However, if what they say about mates is true, would that mean that a piece of Mark was now missing? Did he feel like he was less of a person? Jaebeom felt like that sometimes and he hadnât even met his mate yet. Mark had his, but now he didnât.Â
âDrinks?â Jinyoung asked the two of them and Jaebeom is partly surprised. Out of the three of them, Bambam was the one who was the most comfortable in a club or even bar setting. He figures that Jinyoung must be using his birthday as an excuse to cut loose and become someone else for the night.
Bambam instantly nodded his head at Jinyoungâs suggestion and Jaebeom finds himself trailing behind the two of them as they make their way over to Mark at the bar who is throwing his head back at something the girl across the bar is saying. Judging on Jaebeomâs intuition â itâs a bit fake and overplayed, but you got to do what you got to do.
âMy man!â Bambam yelled over the music, leaning against the counter in a way to make sure he doesnât get the elbows of his long sleeve turtleneck wet. Mark in response, turned to them and smiled, then routing his attention back to the girl, giving her an apologetic smile. Her half-smile says everything Jaebeom could need to know â this girl would not be going home with Mark after his shift tonight.Â
âWhat can I get you guys tonight,â Mark turned to Jaebeom and the latter can barely make out his sharp canines in the dark club, âbirthday boy you want anything special?âÂ
Before Jaebeom can reply that he wants to be at home, Bambam answers for him.
âCould we maybe get something thatâs off the menu?â He wiggled his eyebrows at Mark who gave him a shit-eating grin, knowing immediately what he was talking about.Â
âOff the menuâ meant Markâs secret stash of O negative underneath the counter. While alcohol had the same effect on them that it had on the average humans, adding a bit of blood just made a little bit better. Okay⌠it made it a lot better.Â
âThree negronis coming right up,â Mark winked to give a little signal that these would most likely not be as well composed or put together as a negroni, but due to them being in public, he couldnât necessarily announce a shit ton of alcohol mixed with human blood was going to be served up to them.Â
âHow has your birthday been Jae?â Mark asked as he was in the middle of placing three glasses onto the countertop in between them.
It was difficult to explain since to Jaebeom it had just been another day except for a little bit more excruciating. The celebration of another year âolderâ filled him with thoughts of how much time has passed, whether heâs done anything truly important and why he still hasnât found the person who is meant to complete him⌠but like he said only a little more excruciating than any other day.Â
Jaebeom shrugged in response, âBam planned a lot and for the most part, it wasâŚâ he paused for a moment, wondering if he should say how he felt â numb, lost, and wishing the day would come to an end as if tomorrow wonât bring the same thoughts or problems. But as he looked at his friends who had tried so hard today to make him happy and celebrate, he decided to guard them against the ultimate truth, âfor the most part it was fun â really good. I mean besides the singing at the cafĂŠ of course.â He throws in the last part to at least have some kind of believability to his story.Â
He notices Markâs eyebrows lift out of curiosity as his concentration focuses on measuring out each part of the drinks, âAn entire cafĂŠ sang you happy birthday? Damn, I donât think I could ever get through that, so I can only imagine how you feel.âÂ
âThat was Bamâs idea,â Jinyoung muttered.Â
Once again, Bambam does his nonchalant waving of the hand, âit wasnât that bad. I mean okay, maybe it wasâŚÂ But Jaebeom was obsessed with the girl who led it.âÂ
Jaebeom suddenly feels like he wants to put duct tape over his friendâs mouth.Â
âI was not obsessed with her! I donât even know her!â Jaebeom for some reason felt the need to defend himself, which was probably the worst option. Him getting defensive was usually a tell-tale sign for his friends being right on whatever they were confronting him with.Â
Bambam scoffed, bringing gliding his drink across the bar to be directly in front of him once Mark has poured it neatly into the short glass, âI noticed you staring at her before I went to get the drinks. Thatâs why I asked her to do it in the first place.âÂ
âSo, she doesnât know Minji?â Jinyoung questioned.Â
The youngest takes his first sip and immediately lets out a hissing noise, signaling to Mark that itâs both strong and good. âNo, she does, but Jaebeomâs weird staring only made it that much better.âÂ
Mark pushed the other two glasses towards Jinyoung and Jaebeom, âWas she yourâŚâ he drifted off, almost as though he was finding it physically difficult to get the word out. Jaebeom canât help but feel the want to reach his hand out towards Mark and place it comfortingly on his shoulder, but his group of friends donât do that. Instead, he saves him the trouble by answering back right away, not forcing him to say it.
âNo, she wasnât.âÂ
The bartender nodded slowly, suddenly avoiding his gaze from the three familiar boys across the bar from him, âThatâs uh⌠too bad that she wasnât able to break the trance. Sorry, Jaebeom.âÂ
He knows that Mark is just trying to be nice, especially when theyâre on a subject that he clearly canât and doesnât want to talk about, but the attempt to be comforting makes Jaebeom nauseous.Â
âWell maybe heâll find her here tonight,â Jinyoung quipped, placing a hand on Jaebeomâs back. Sometimes the latter swore that his friends treated him he had just found out he had a terminal illness.Â
âI sincerely doubt it,â Jaebeom commented gruffly.Â
Thereâs a sound from the other side of the bar from a customer who seems fed up with the conversation being had between the four of them â distracting Mark from serving anyone else. He gives a signal to them to notify them that heâll be there in a second. âWell⌠come to me if you guys need more drinks.  Itâs on me tonight.âÂ
âThanks, man,â Jaebeom tells him honestly because he might need a couple more drinks before he gets to the state of wanting to be in this room.
Mark said a final word of âsee you guys laterâ and heads to the other end of the bar to help customers who have been waiting. Grabbing their drinks, Jaebeom, Jinyoung, and Bambam turn around to depart the bar, to find somewhere to sit for a bit before the drinks truly begin to hit them. Â
With his drink in hand, Jaebeom took a sip and reveled in the perfect balance of alcohol to burn his throat and blood to soothe it. The drink was probably the most relaxing part of his day thus far and as he looked out at the crowd, he could already tell that maybe the mixture was going to his head due to his sudden thinking that this place wasnât all that bad.
Despite not being a club guy, if he were to go out, Jaebeom would always choose this club that Mark works out. To put it simply â it was vampire friendly. With Mark behind the counter and his âsecretâ supply free-flowing, it became a notoriously known place for vampires in town. If he had to guess, the attendance on an average night was probably evenly split 50/50, humans and vampires.
The humans werenât aware of the vampires of course â for the most part.
Jaebeom cleared his throat once theyâve found a booth to sit in, âso⌠Bam what do you know about that girl?âÂ
Both Jinyoung and Bambam exchange glances before looking back at the birthday boy. The latter tried his best to conceal the smile on his face, ânot much⌠just that she owns the cafĂŠ, knows Minji, and is very single.âÂ
For some reason, Jaebeomâs stomach does a little flip, but he wishes it wouldnât. âS-So?â Through his stutter, he tries to remain as confident as possible, but his friends see right through his façade.
Jinyoung leaned forward until his elbows rest on the top of his thighs, âJaebeom you can be honest with us⌠Why the sudden fascination with this girl? Are you sure she didnât break the trance? Just with the way that youâre actingâŚâ Jinyoung drifted off, not bothering to finish his final sentence, but once again looking at Bambam. It makes Jaebeom lean forward in his seat as well.Â
âWith the way, Iâm acting? Iâm completely normal. Iâm fine. She didnât break the trance and now Iâm just curious about her as curious as anyone would be about someone they meet.âÂ
Thereâs the silence between the three of them until Bambam speaks up, âYou didnât meet her though.âÂ
It dawns on Jaebeom that he didnât even speak to you and he wonders why does it feel like he did. Why did it feel like he knew you but didnât at the same time? Why havenât his mind and body been cooperating with him since this morning at the cafĂŠ?Â
Just with the way that youâre actingâŚ
The way he was acting? What did that mean? Was the way he was acting mean something specific?Â
He feels like he blinks and thirty minutes go by. And in that past thirty minutes, Jaebeom had somehow managed to drink 6 of Markâs ânegronis.â He felt like his head was beginning to get dizzy. It wasnât often that Jaebeom found himself drunk on the verge of drunkenness due to alcohol not affecting him as much as humans. To even remotely get to that state, he had to drink a lot and it had to be strong.Â
âYou feeling it Jaebeom?â Through the darkness and the haze of the alcohol, Jaebeom could barely make out the hint of the smile playing on Jinyoungâs face. He had switched to a glass of wine at some point while Jaebeom was binge drinking which had to be the most Jinyoung thing ever. Who drinks a glass of wine in a dark, sweaty club?Â
Heâs afraid to answer him verbally which would give his friend an obvious sign of how he was feeling. So instead he just shrugged â as usual.Â
âDude letâs get out there!â The youngest shouted, motioning his hands to the middle of the club, âdance⌠maybe find you a girl?âÂ
Jaebeom watched the people pressing up against each other on the dancefloor, moving their bodies, and drinking like their lives depended on it. He wondered if he wanted to be a part of that. Everyone out there was so full of life and vigor⌠he just wasnât. He also didnât know if he was that drunk, but bless Bambam because he didnât need alcohol to be out there.Â
For what feels like the millionth time, his mind drifted to you. Was this your kind of place? Would you come here? If you did would you come alone? With friends? Someone else? You didnât seem like the type of person who would like this place. You seemed more like him â the observant, calm, inquisitive type who would much rather be at home with a book than at a party.Â
Then for a moment, he can picture it. Itâs almost like heâs in a trance â an image of you curled up on a couch â his couch â under a large white cable knit blanket fills his mind. Rather than reading, your painting with watercolors â the kind that seems to be in every elementary school classroom â and he hears a voice out of view. His voice.
âPainting really?â Â
Jaebeom sees you glance up from your painting to look at him, smiling.
âLooks like Iâm gonna have a lot of time on my hands so⌠might as well get good at something.âÂ
Jaebeom hears himself laugh, âOkay but watercolors?âÂ
He feels like heâs going to pass out when he finally hears it â your laugh.Â
âLet the artist work Im Jaebeom! She needs to get good enough to live off auction house money once her paintings get sold! Shh!â Despite your words, you smiled and suddenly moved the tools away from you onto the coffee table. You lifted half the blanket off of you and patted the space of the couch beside you, âyou know I canât say no when you give me that face. Come here.â
And just like that, the vision is gone. Jaebeom feels confused because it didnât feel like a dream or fantasy, but it felt real⌠it felt like a memory.Â
âHello, Earth to Jaebeom?âÂ
Right⌠dancing. Maybe dancing would help him forget whatever game his mind was playing on him.
âYeah letâs fucking go.âÂ
Another instance occurs where Jaebeom blinks and everything moves so fast. Suddenly heâs no longer sat at the table with Bambam and Jinyoung, but instead in the middle of that mess on the dancefloor with everyone else. He almost feels like one of them. He almost feels human again. But as soon as that feeling washes over him, it quickly dissipates.Â
He knows it must be the drinks doing all the work, because otherwise, he would have never found himself in the middle of all these people, thinking that dancing is a good idea. Dancing had never done anything remotely good for him before, so why now? To help forget? Was it going to help him do that?Â
âI swear itâs like heâs not even here.âÂ
Jaebeom tuned back into the moment, and itâs when he realizes that Jinyoung and Bambam have been trying to get his attention this entire time.
âSorry I was just- the alcohol you knowâŚâ He says it so quietly that he knows his friends wonât be able to hear him over the music and the millions of conversations happening around them. But he thinks that maybe itâs better that way and that it truly doesnât matter what he says.
Jinyoung comes closer to Jaebeom, until his mouth is right next to his ear, âwe were just asking if thereâs anyone that youâre interested in.âÂ
Theyâre still on this idea? Jaebeom asked himself.Â
Even in his drunken state, he didnât think that finding some random girl to fuck was going to help with the emptiness heâs been feeling lately, but for the first time since getting up and onto the dance floor he takes in the people around him. As depressing as it was to observe, most people were here with someone else.Â
Itâs then his gaze falls onto a couple that stands far on the left side of the floor, behind where Jinyoung is standing. The two of them have their fronts pressed up against each other, dancing so closely with arms exploring one anotherâs bodies. The female has her head resting on the maleâs shoulder as if sheâs too exhausted to keep going, but canât dare to part with him. Itâs like theyâre part of each other and any distance would cause them to lose all sense of themselves.
The girl lifts her head off the maleâs shoulder and gives him this look that makes Jaebeomâs heart â if it was still beating â ache. She says something to him and he nodded happily in response. Even through the dim lights and large crowd, Jaebeom could see the sharp teeth inside her mouth.
She placed her head back against his shoulder, this time, however, the male had his head angled back, stretching out his neck. The girl moves in closer until her mouth just ghosts over the skin, breathing on it until the boy shuts his eyes awaiting the sting and pleasure that will come next.
Biting down against his flesh, breaking skin, the girl drinks from her partner. Even though heâs at a distance from them, Jaebeom can tell by the look on the manâs face that heâs enjoying being fed on and that it certainly isnât his first time.Â
He feels like his eyes are frozen on the couple. Itâs been so long since he fed off someone instead of the stuff that he gets from his connection at the hospital. Jaebeom tries not to think about the way his fingertips tingle and his throat dries up at the thought of drinking from a warm body. The alcohol has only dehydrated him and made him feel even more thirsty â heâs afraid that going back to the bar and asking Mark for a glass of O negative exclusively isnât going to make that go away.Â
After a moment or two, the girl removes her mouth from the boyâs neck and drags her tongue over the spot where she had drawn blood from, ultimately covering the wound and signaling that she was done drinking.Â
He thinks of how risky it is to do that at a place like this. Although half of the people around them also take part in the activity of drinking blooding and granted most of them arenât paying attention to those around them â there are still unsuspecting humans everywhere. If one wrong person were to see then that could be it for this club being a haven for the vampire community in the city and that would probably beâŚÂ it for vampires in this city in general.Â
But who was he kidding? He was being a hypocrite because heâs for sure done the same thing.Â
Youâve once again entered his mind. However, this time it isnât an image, picture, or vision that occupies his thoughts, but instead just the idea of how you would react to who he is, what he really is. Throughout his time that heâs been undead heâs only done the ârevealâ to a handful of people and even then, it took him a long time to get there. Well except for one person who ultimately was a mistake and his friends hadnât hesitated to let him know.
With you, Jaebeom felt that you wouldnât be the kind of person to judge him instantly based on what he was. You would be shocked of course, maybe even scared, but you wouldnât let that cloud your judgment. You wouldnât let yourself reject something just because it was unfamiliar.Â
What the fuck was he on about?Â
It must be the alcohol doing this to him. He would have to thank Mark for making them strong this time around, but also make a mental note to never let this happen again. Jaebeom was already a deeper thinker, but this was getting out of hand.
Thereâs a sudden grasp of Jaebeomâs elbow and he feels himself jump at the sudden touch. His eyebrows furrowed when he realized it wasnât one of his friends considering Bambam and Jinyoung were both dancing over to his right side.Â
When he turned around to greet the person who had grabbed him, he was disappointed, surprised, and annoyed all in one. It was the last person he had expected to see her, except not really because it made perfect sense.Â
âJaebeom⌠hi.â Ara smiled shyly at him, tucking a string of hair behind her ear and slightly looking down at the ground. He wants to groan because he knows sheâs doing this because he had once mentioned that he thought it was hot when she looked innocent. He shouldnât have ever said that.
Heâs not sure what to say, because what are you supposed to say to someone youâve been trying to avoid for the past year and a half? Jaebeom had said everything he had wanted to say to her.Â
At one point in his life, he had been stupid. He had been stupid and he had abused the power that had been bestowed upon him since the day he had been turned. Perhaps one would assume that heâd been foolish with his ability just at the start â 100, maybe even 150 years ago. Instead, Jaebeom had gone through a rough patch about a year or two ago.Â
The overwhelming pressure of finding his mate had started to get to him again. All he needed was someone, anyone to break the hypnotic trance and that was it. A task that seemed so simple, yet never came. So, Jaebeom had used hypnotism to his advantage, getting as many girls as he could in his bed in the shortest amount of time possible. He wasnât proud of it and it was something he would constantly regret as long as he was ali- around.Â
One of those girls⌠had been Ara.Â
Jaebeom felt relieved when she didnât wait for him to answer back at her greeting, âHow are you? I-Itâs your birthday, right? How old are you turning again? 27?â She winked immediately after her question and he wants to roll his eyes.
She was the mistake by the way. The mistake that knew about who he was.Â
He doesnât even remember how it happened, how his secret slipped, or what the circumstances of her finding out was. Part of him thinks he was just horny, thirsty, and weak, but she found out and she⌠loved it.Â
Weirdly enough, Ara loved the idea of him being a vampire and his âlifestyleâ which at first Jaebeom didnât think too much about. He thought okay sheâs taking this extremely well⌠better than anyone else Iâve ever told, but whatever, but then it became strange.Â
She was what those in the vampire community call a âvampire fetishizer.â
He coughed awkwardly, his gaze wandering over to Jinyoung and Bambam, hoping they would catch sight of him stuck with Ara and come rescue him. Jaebeom wasnât that lucky though, not even on his birthday, âYeah⌠27.âÂ
Jaebeom canât help but look at her neck. Itâs fully on display and it was clear that Ara had come here to find someone to feed on her. He had been the one to show Ara this place before he had been clued into her littleâŚÂ vampire obsession.Â
âWell did the birthday boy get everything he wants today?â She smiled and gave Jaebeom those eyes. He feels his cock twitch in his pants and he realizes he has to keep himself in check because heâs not that weak tonight⌠right?Â
His eyes flash to her neck again and Jaebeom feels his throat get even drier. He was so thirsty and he knows Ara would be so willing.Â
No Jaebeom⌠No.Â
âI-I uh yeah⌠you know got- yeah todayâs been good,â he stuttered awkwardly, bringing his tongue out to wet his dry lips. Judging on the look on Araâs face, sheâs taken the action the wrong way.Â
âYou look thirsty Jaebeom⌠do you want a drink?âÂ
He knows what she means and Jaebeom swallows hard in an attempt to distract himself, to remind himself that heâs not that thirsty. He doesnât need it that bad.
âI-I think I am.âÂ
The words come out faster than his brain can process to stop them and the part of Jaebeom thatâs coherent, sharp, and aware wants to punch the weak and drunk Jaebeom in the face.Â
Without a word, Ara turned from Jaebeom and began walking to one of the exits at the side of the club. He feels like heâs the one in a trance, mindlessly following her through the people, not even hearing Jinyoung and Bambam calling out to him. The only thing that Jaebeom makes note of as he follows her is Markâs face behind the bar, giving him a tight smile. It almost stops Jaebeom. Almost.Â
When they finally get outside through the exit door, they find themselves in a small alley between the club and a dry cleaner.Â
Jaebeom doesnât even get a moment to think before Ara is pushing him against the wall of the dry cleaner, her hands roaming up and down his body, her lips going to his own. Theyâre pressed up against each other so closely that he recalls the couple he had watched earlier. He feels sick comparing this moment now to the two of them.Â
âFuck I missed you so much,â Ara sighed seductively into this ear, making Jaebeomâs stomach churn further at her clear longing for him. Well not him, but the vampire part of him.
âPlease, I need it,â she mewled. At her words, he almost puts a stop to this whole thing and has to question whether this is the right thing to do. Jaebeom wonders if this is old Jaebeom behavior â the one that just used women and threw them away later like toys, but then he remembers that this is Ara. Sheâs using him as well.Â
Itâs almost as though that old, cocky, snide Jaebeom appears out of nowhere as he says his next words and brings himself closer to her neck, âdo you really need it?âÂ
âYes, Jaebeom I do, please.â Ara already sounds so desperate and heâs barely done anything. He canât help but smirk at her reaction.
âThen I guess I better give it to you then.âÂ
Heâs about to do it. Heâs about to bite down and finally relieve his thirst, his craving, but then he looks to the side of the alley â towards the street. He feels like heâs seeing things again like heâs in the middle of a hallucination or mirage. That thought is pushed away when he locks eyes with you.Â
âDonât mind me,â you placed your hands up in front of yourself, to show him youâre not eavesdropping. Your action frustrated you because it would have been much better to say nothing, but you felt yourself panic. The prolonged eye contact with him while heâs just seconds away from pressing down â bitting down? â on the girlâs next for some reason pushed you into defensive mode. Not to mention his eyes⌠his eyes were â red?Â
The girl hadnât noticed you; you arenât even sure if she heard you, but she certainly noticed Jaebeomâs stare fixated on you. When she faces you, she wears an unpleasant sneer, clearly annoyed by your interruption of whatever this was.Â
âCan you go?â She said, the agitation in her voice more than apparent.Â
Rather than immediately leave the scene, you continued to stare at Jaebeom. Itâs difficult to say why you decided to walk this specific way home despite it being so late and dark out, but for some reason, you couldnât help but be pulled in this direction. You werenât someone who believed in signs or fate, but it felt so wrong to go any other way tonight. That was another thing, you felt this kink in your neck that practically forced you or taunted you into looking down the alley between this dry cleaners and club. It was yet another thing about today that felt unexplainable to you as you certainly werenât expecting the birthday boy from the cafĂŠ today to be in a compromising position with some girl.Â
After a moment of more uncomfortable staring â something else that had happened at the cafĂŠ today with him â Jaebeom breaks your gaze and looks down at his feet. The eye roll and acrid look on the girlâs face donât go unnoticed by you.Â
You shouldnât be here.Â
âS-Sorry. Iâll just get going then,â you concluded, unsure why you felt an uncomfortable sickness spread throughout the entirety of your body.Â
You barely knew this guy â all you really knew was that today was his birthday and that he was friends with Minjiâs boyfriend. Basically nothing. Yet now and even earlier back at the cafĂŠ you had felt this weird sensation within yourself. Not even when you looked at him, but just being in the same presence. It had been so hard to focus on making coffee today when he was seated across the room. Every part of your body just wanted to get closer, gravitate towards him. It was fucking weird⌠and scary.Â
The girl nodded as if to signal âyeah about time,â at the announcement of your departure. Jaebeom on the other hand, still had his eyes glued to the ground as if looking at you once again will cause him some kind of pain.
Just as youâre about to continue your trip back home, you stop yourself and look back at the couple in the alley.Â
âHappy birthday by the wayâŚâ you paused wondering if it would be weird to say his name considering he doesnât even know yours, but you shove the thought out of your mind, âJaebeomâŚâ   Â
Hearing you say his name causes that tingling feeling in his fingertips to come back and his entire mind is sent into a frenzy. He feels too awkward, too shy to look at you again, but a sudden thought washed over him. What if earlier was a mistake? What if you are his mate? With the way he was currently feeling just at you saying his name, the visions he had in the club and the nonstop place you know had in his mind, it was difficult to believe that you werenât his mate.Â
Bambam and Jinyoung had found it difficult to explain to him what it felt like to find your mate, but surely what he felt right now wasnât normal behavior or feelings. Unless he was a psychopath.Â
Tightly shutting his eyes and drawing together all his strength, Jaebeom aims to try once again to see if you can break the hypnotic trance, unaffected by his abilities. However, as soon as heâs finally ready, head turned up to face you â youâre gone. You didnât wait for him to respond to the happy birthday message. Instead, you simply left not wanting to be a burden or troublesome to whatever it was those two were doing in that alley.Â
âThank fucking god, letâs get back to it,â Ara concluded with a final roll of her eyes, gripping Jaebeomâs shoulders to get him close to her once again. He stares at her neck, but this time he doesnât feel anything. He no longer feels thirsty and his appetite is gone.Â
Jaebeom shrugs her off slightly. The encounter with you has caused him to wake up and realize what a bad idea it would be to do this right now. He hopes that Ara wonât put up a fight â he doesnât want to have to hypnotize her if he doesnât need to.Â
At his actions, Ara takes a step away in disbelief, as if she actually canât believe that Jaebeom is changing his mind and no longer wants her, âare you serious?âÂ
He doesnât say anything but instead avoids eye contact with her just as he had done for you.Â
Snorting, she glared at him, âFine. Whatever. I donât fucking care. I can find someone else to feed off of me. Yours never felt that good anyway. Asshole.â
Just like that, sheâs out of his life once again and Jaebeom canât help but feel thankful. He should have never been weak enough to be dragged out by here anyway. He had just been consumed by thoughts of you, alcohol, and the couple on the dancefloor. Then again, not coming out here would have robbed him of the opportunity of seeing you again and finding out that you actually knew his name.Â
Thatâs when it dawned on him.Â
Fuck⌠how much had you seen? What did you see?Â
Jaebeom realized that he might have some explaining to do

would u. i dunno. perhaps articulate some thots on toh infinity train au đł if u can
HM. i will do my best. but...i dont really know how to organize my thoughts. i guess i should probably just start with the characters and go from there, huh. also in this particular au these characters donât actually take the place of tulip, lake, jesse, grace, etc- i think theyâre all just there under different circumstances.Â
Luz
okay so weâll start with Luz because. sheâs the main character, yâknow. very important. i think the catalyst that brings her to the train is her mother signing her up for Reality Check summer camp because as a creative itâs just! disheartening to have someone you love tell you that youâre not going to make it in this world if you donât conform to what everyone else wants. so of course when a huge mysterious locomotive suddenly pulls up to the bus stop you KNOW luz gets on, no hesitation. after all, isnât that something right out of a sci-fi adventure novel?Â
unlike tulip, luz is THRILLED to find herself on some unknowable train where each car is a new adventure just waiting to happen, where there are always new friends to make, new places to see, and tons of puzzles to solve? sheâs made to feel like the protagonist right out one of her fave animes.Â
also, really important to note that her number is probably tied to how she relates to the other passengers on the train. i feel like thereâs an overarching theme in the show about how luz is going through a lot of firsts when it comes to interpersonal relationships, especially friendships, so i wanted to keep that going in this au- i imagine her number goes up when she finds her friends tapes and convinces them to watch with her because this is obviously the easiest and most straightforward way to get to know them! (luz poppin that bad boy into a vcr player: this mama is ready for trauma!)Â
realized how wordy this is going to be LOL
Eda
hough so this is a human au also (i assume? infinity train world really do be existing in some limbo state of reality where your reflection can just up and ditch you). i see her as a jack of all trades, master of none type, with a lean towards perfumes and handmade soaps that she sells at fairs or farmers markets and also pickpocketing. i think she sees something that reminds her of the life she used to have/would have had before lilith [redacted because i do not know what she DID yet but on GOD we will have canon continuity] and that drives her to get on the next train headed anywhere.
her number is tied to how much she allows herself to open up; the more she uses her salesman cover to keep others at arms length, the higher her number goes, which is why itâs so important for her to team up with King and Luz; they help her open up and be more honest with herself. Â
King
king is actually a denizen of the train in this au; i love him too much to turn him into a real ass dog, so i wont. eda meets him in a car full of plush toys, which he refers to lovingly as his army of the damned. i almost want to hold off on writing up any more for him because i know thereâs more to kingâs character than meets the eye. still torn between eda trying to bring him off the train with her or having him realize that the whole TRAIN is HIS KINGDOM, and all its passengers loyal peons who need their mighty rulers HELP, for without him they would PERISH.
for now though eda sees him and is immediately like get over here (reaching emoji)Â
WillowÂ
willow is a tough one for me because in all honesty having your longtime friend tell you out of the blue that they canât be friends with you anymore would be enough to send me packing to the train, but with willow i think itâs less about amity and more about how the fallout between them affects her social and academic success. the frustration reaches a tipping point that has her running out of the classroom and finding the train.Â
and yes, willow is a very sensible, bright girl, but she was also SO ready to trick the principle and steal from the emperor for her friend so i donât think getting on a mystery train is wholly out of the question for her, yâknow?Â
Thereâs a lot about repression in the way willow deals with things generally, so her number is tied to passivity. the more she allows others to infringe on her personal boundaries to keep them placated, the higher her number goes. when she stands up for herself to others (sometimes even her friends!) the number goes up. willow x agency and clear limitations is my otp
Gus
gus was actually a SUPER easy one for me we know so much about him from the episodes heâs been in; heâs an overachiever, heâs passionate about what he loves, heâs a natural showman, and he is constantly pushing himself to be the best that he can be, all the time. the hustle doesnât STOP for gus, and i...i...(tears up)Â
anyways, i think the thing that draws him to the train is getting suddenly ousted from the club he formed at school. heâs young, and having everyone you had assumed were your friends turn their back on you and throw you out of the space that you CREATED FOR THEM would be shocking to anyone, but it broke gusâ heart clean in two. after heâd picked his bag and himself up off the hallway floor, heâd left the building in a daze, not even realizing as he boarded the train door that had suddenly opened up in front of him until it was too late.Â
iâm actually going to go so far as to say that gus would likely be the one MOST interested in the truth of the train- heâd be asking the tough questions, like what is the purpose of the train? who made it and its technology? where does it exist that it can be both at his school and also speeding across a barren desert landscape at the same time? How does it create sentient lifeforms? the train helps him discover a new passion; journalism. he finds a journal that speaks to him as a friend and advisor in one of the trains, and he takes careful note of everything that happens to and around him. by the time he meets up with willow, heâs got so many ideas and theories that the other girl would have never thought to consider until that very moment.Â
idk what his number relates to because heâs perfect the way he is but if i had to take a shot in the dark it probably has something to do with finding somewhere he feels he can belong, as well as being able to mourn and let go of the people heâd considered his friends before heâd gotten on the train.Â
sorry this is so long i just have a lot of . gus feelings.Â
Amity ( + Edric + Emira )
lumping these whites togetherÂ
okay so nobody wants to hear me talk about blight angst there are 800 posts about blight angst, so long story short the three siblings run away, get into an argument with each other, amity ditches them for the train while theyâre asleep, and the twins panic and chase after her, determined to find her because in the end theyâre all theyâve got.Â
ânext stop: amity blightâÂ
i think itâd be a cool journey to see the three of them going from âwe need to be together out of necessityâ to âwe need to be together because we love each other, and that genuine support structure will pull us through when everything else fails.â but in order for that to happen they all have to have their own journey, so at some point edric and emira finally get into a spat and thatâs enough to get edric and emira stuck on opposite ends of a retracting bridge. send that mans to the BACK of the train.Â
emira: my greatest fear is being stuck with edric forever emira: (gets separated from edric)Â emira: haha wait please say psyche
amityâs number is definitely tied to her fear of failure, of not being enough for the people she holds closest to her- in this case her siblings, and then lilith, and then luz when they finally meet. when she acts without concern for what the people around her think and when she sticks up for what she knows is right, even when the majority is against her, her number goes down.Â
for ed and em im...i donât want to think about their feelings because theyâre supposed to be clowns but i am forced to consider that they may be jealous of their sisters independence. also separating them means they both have to take responsibility for all their own actions and choices, which is probably pretty new for the twins.Â
LilithÂ
im out of energy actually znzzzsnsz uh. estranged sister who sees something that reminds her of the relationship she used to have and sheâs not actually as over it as she thought so the train....she..hghrg

Get Some Rest, Samurai...
Via Anon Ask; âbecause im also a sap for Johnny and V- How do you think Johnny would help V cope with a panic attack? Especially when its likely something he's feeling laggy echoes of himself if he's in her head during it? (hurt/comfort is a FAVE of mine and i have anxiety, can ya' tell?)â
B ro,, donât worry anon bc same here, we are anxiety homies together đđ - This is my first time writing for Johnny Silverhand! Trying to get back on the writing boat, (haven't forgotten my previous fic!) and there's nothing like simping for video game characters to get that inspiration flowing. Do let me know what you think! Johnny may be a bit too OOC in this, I may have gone a little bit overboard with the soft? Ah well, I hope someone will enjoy it regardless :P
Here is the Ao3 Link! :D
Vâs time was running out.Â
Every time the relic in their head would malfunction, every time they went into a coughing fit and the disgusting taste of metallic blood would fill their mouth, every time he would manifest himself in her head and V would catch a glimpse of his stupid fucking faceâŚ
V was reminded of the fact that their time was running out, and fast.
And despite the fact that they were doing everything in their power to stop the construct in her mind from completely destroying her from the inside out, that didnât stop the fact that she still had to pay the rent.Â
In fact, it wasnât cheap coughing up the eddies to pay Rouge for her services, or having to pay for bigger and better gear that would keep her alive when dealing with Arasaka guards, hell, it wasnât cheap to keep purchasing more and more bottles of Omega Blockers, the pills were the only thing that kept him from completely taking control.Â
She found herself taking more and more gigs, trying to simply keep up with the extra costs of having a completely second personality living rent-free in her mind. But even then⌠she couldnât find it in herself to reject or turn away people who needed her help, even if they had little to nothing to offer in return.Â
It seemed as if her phone was constantly buzzing with calls and texts of people who wanted and needed her help. No matter where she went or what she did, people needed her services, people needed her time.
And yet, time was something that she had very little left of.
V was exhausted. The bags under her eyes revealed that she hadnât slept in days, and she couldnât remember when she last had a proper meal.
She was always on the go, she didnât have time to take care of herself.
But as she groggily opened the door to her apartment, she thought to herself that⌠maybe, just maybe⌠she would finally let herself take a nice, long warm shower.
V was too exhausted to care about the possibility of Johnny potentially staring at her nude form as she stood under the running water. Hell, let him stare for all she cared! The thought of warm water running over her exhausted muscles, washing away the dirt and grime of the city⌠it was too appealing at that moment.Â
She removed her weapon slung across her back, letting her beloved leather Samurai jacket slip off her shoulders and onto the ground, too exhausted to care about putting it away properly.Â
The weight of the gun in her hands was normally a welcome and grounding presence for V when she was on a mission, the weapon in her hands keeping her safe from those who wished to do her harm. But now? It felt too heavy, unbearably so, as if the weight would make her topple over onto the floor below. The muscles in her arms were exhausted and spent. As she rotated her shoulder she heard the joints audibly pop. The consequences of pushing her body too far.
She would do anything for the physical ache to go away.Â
As she stepped through the door to her armory and switched on the fluorescent lights of the room, her gaze fell upon someone already there, casually lounging atop her workbench and raising a cigarette to his mouth, pausing to speak before inhaling a deep puff of smoke.
âDamn V. You look like shit.â
She rolled her eyes at his comment, and made her way to her weapon locker instead, trying to ignore the weight of his gaze on the nape of her neck.
V fiddled with the combination, her foggy mind struggling to remember the correct numbers and the correct order, her fingers felt clumsy and uncoordinated as she inputs each digit. V cursed herself for making it so damn difficult, but eventually, she finally managed to swing the metal door open, proceeding to put her gun away amongst her collection of stored weapons.Â
Johnny hopped off of the workbench, stepping towards V as she organized her storage, resting his metal arm against the locker, using his height to his advantage as he towered over her and confronted her. âNo, seriously V, you look like shit. When was the last time you slept?â
âFuckâ Johnny, I dunno⌠A few days I guess?â V slammed the door of the locker using more force than necessary, Johnny already starting to get on her nerves, the last thing she needed was Johnny Fucking Silverhand following her around like a worried mother hen. V pouted and huffed, blowing away a stubborn strand of hair that had fallen across her face, then turning to meet his gaze, hidden behind wine-colored lenses, and asked, âWhy do you care anyway?â
âYouâve been on edge all day, I can feel it. Youâre like a string thatâs been strung too strongly. I feel like youâre ready to snap at any fucknâ moment, V.âÂ
She could feel his stare on her body and the tension in the room was beginning to suffocate her. He was poking at a sensitive topic for her, and he knew it.Â
V stuttered, trying to find the right words to say as she couldn't bring herself to look at him in the eye anymore, instead choosing to halfheartedly push him aside and walk away, âJohnny⌠Iâm fine. Really. I justâ I just need a shower and a nap, thatâs all.â
As V stepped out of the room, the weight on her chest seemed to grow heavier with each step.Â
She wanted to crumble, she wanted to cry.Â
She just wanted to wrap up herself in a bundle of blankets and cry into an order of takeout. One of those ugly cries that made snot dribble from your nose and your cheeks flushed and red.
She wantedâ no, V needed to let everything out.
But⌠she couldnât. She didnât have the time for it, she needed to get back to work soon. Here were people that needed her help and there were eddies to be made. She would let herself rest when sheâd gotten that damned biochip out of her head.
It was at that moment when Vâs phone began to ring, the sound interrupting her thoughts and causing her to pause in her step.
Almost as if on reflex, she quickly reached into her pocket and withdrew the device, not even bothering to check the caller ID before answering, âV speaking, what do you want?â
âV, itâs Regina. Iâve got another report of a cyberpsycho attackâŚâ
V stopped listening to the voice on her phone, too distracted by the crushing pressure on her chest and the fact that she had begun to tremble and shake like a leaf.
All she had wanted was a hot shower and a night in, was that too much to ask?
After weeks of dodging blades and bullets, running meaningless errands and tasks for just a few eddies in return, spending sleepless nights that left dark circles under her eyes, and going days on end without even seeing her fucking apartment, all she wanted was a night in.
Was that too much to fucking ask?
She could faintly register Johnnyâs voice coming from behind her, an uncharacteristically concerned tone in his voice as he asked, â...V? Whatâs wrong?â
The pressure in her chest grew heavier by the second, her breaths becoming strained and labored as the increasing fear and dread overwhelmed her body. She gripped her phone tightly in her hand, glaring at the device with tears prickling the corners of her eyes.
âV? Are you listening? I said that thereâs another report of a cyberpsycho near your current position, are you stillââ
With a press of a button, she hung up the phone.
Johnny watched V, her form trembling and shoulders tensed.
In all of their weeks stuck together, heâd never seen his little merc look so small. A real juxtaposition when compared to her usual self; a real fucking hardass, she was the only other person Johnny had ever met that was just as bullheaded and stubborn as himself.Â
As much as he teased her about it, Johnny knew one thing for certain. V was strong, V was determined. A damned force of nature and he pitied the bastards that stood in her way.
But despite the cybernetics in her body and the chip in her mind⌠V was human. V had her limits.
The facade sheâd built up for herself couldnât last forever, and Johnny knew it. Heâd sensed the cracks in her resolve grow larger and larger with each sleepless night and after every exhausting gig.
But for a brief second, a thought crossed Johnnyâs mind;Â
V was fractured⌠V was broken⌠V was weak.
And with that thought, V finally snapped.
âI AM NOT FUCKING WEAK!â
V cried out, lobbing her phone at him. It phased right through him, instead hitting against the wall, shattering the screen, and sending the device flying into some unknown corner of the room.Â
She froze, her eyes widening in shock, almost as if she couldnât believe what she had done. The realization slowly setting in after the result of her outburst.
Vâs vision blurred as tears welled in the corners of her eyes, she slowly fell to the cold floor, cradling her knees up to her chest and muffling her sobs in her arms.
Johnny watched as she sat in the middle of the room and sobbed.Â
She didnât let herself cry when Jackie had died, she didnât let herself cry when Vic told her that she was practically dying. V didnât cry as she carried Evalynâs bloodied body, and V didnât cry late at night when she was alone, and her chest felt tight and her throat choked up.
He knew it was coming, he could feel Vâs emotions as they bubbled up and reached their boiling point.Â
But what truly surprised him, was just how much it hurt him to see his little merc cry.
âShitâ VâŚâ he nervously swallowed his throat, but try as he might, for once in his goddamn existence, he couldnât find the right words to say.
Johnny didnât like the way he felt.Â
Johnny didnât like the way she made him feel at that moment.
He didnât like the way his chest tightened at the sound of each of her sobs. The way he felt so restless as he could only watch her curl onto herself for comfort. He couldnât stop himself from pacing back and forth across the room, unsure if it was her anxiety or his that was setting him off.Â
Johnny could almost feel Vâs heart racing in her chest, the adrenaline flooding her veins, adrenaline meant to stimulate a fight or flight reaction. But when the pain and panic swelled from within her own chest, there was nowhere V could run, nobody she could physically fight.
All she could do was sob into her knees, desperately trying to hide her sobs and cries from him, but her own cries easily overpowered her.Â
And because of him, she didnât even feel like she had the ability to freely have a goddamn mental breakdown in her own apartment, even as she choked and sobbed, she tried to grasp onto the shattered remains of her facade. Was it for her sake, or for his?
At that point⌠neither of them knew.
V couldnât stop her body from trembling. She tightly gripped onto herself until her knuckles turned white. But V didnât notice. It didnât even register in her mind.
She didnât register the hot tears as they streamed down her face, the shuddering cries that caused her lip to quiver with each breath. She couldnât recognize that no matter how hard she tried, her frantic breaths caused her lungs to feel as if they were on fire, incapable of delivering oxygen to her body.
Vâs mind didnât even register the fact that Johnny had stopped pacing back and forth.
Her mind cursed at her to get her shit together. V needed to wipe away those tears and she needed to get back on the streets. A moment of weakness couldâve gotten her killed in her past, and now was no different.Â
But⌠the thought of standing up and leaving her apartment caused another fresh wave of sobs to rattle her body.
She was tired⌠she was so goddamn exhaustedâŚÂ
âVâŚâ
All she wanted was a night in. Was that too much to ask? After all of her hard work and effort, hadnât she earned it?
âV, listen to me.â
Clearly, she hadnât done enough if people were still calling, still demanding her presence. Clearly sheâ
V felt something warm touch her cheek.
Someone was there.Â
Although her mind had stopped temporarily spiraling, she felt the wet salty tears dripping down her face, her vision was still blurry, and her cheeks were incredibly flushed. She mustâve looked⌠pathetic she thought. But regardless, she allowed herself to look up at the person who had reached out to her.
The cold of his metal rings juxtaposed the warmth of his hand, and as her eyes trailed up towards his arms, she caught sight of his familiar tattoos, but also an unfamiliar detail as she reached his face.
Instead of seeing her reflection in the lenses of his glasses, she was surprised to see his eyes staring into hers. Gone was any trace of malice or cruelty, instead his brown eyes reflected nothing but concern⌠an emotion sheâd never expected to see from him.
Johnny.Â
As her tearful eyes met his, he couldâve almost sworn that he felt his engram heart stop beating for a second. The tears rolling down her cheeks, the way her lip trembled with each breath. He didnât know why the sight of V feeling so upset affected him so, he blamed her emotions, her hormones, whatever came into his mind. He hated the way she made him feel, he hated that she had this much power over him.Â
But most of all, he hated the fact that he felt so powerless to stop it.
He wouldâve gladly taken V cussing him out, he wouldâve taken V nagging at him and complaining about the smell as he smoked in her apartment. He wouldâve even happily taken V as she sang along to the car radio, something sheâd originally done to get onto his nerves, but now it has become a sound heâs grown⌠to tolerate. Even sometimes⌠appreciate it.Â
He wasnât the type to comfort people like this, he was the type to leave as soon as emotions came into play, the countless amount of hearts that heâd broken in the past were evidence enough. Fuck, he didnât know how to deal with his own goddamn emotions, blowing up Arasaka tower as revenge to deal with his grief, thatâs what got him into this mess.
But as he wiped away a tear from her soft cheek with his calloused thumb⌠he wasnât going to just sit there and let his little merc cry.
âV. Youâve done more than enough for this city than it deserves. Youâre always running back and forth, trying to make this shithole a better place⌠all while trying to keep yourself alive.â He wanted to tell her that this damned city didnât deserve her generosity, it didnât deserve her hard work, fuck, this city didnât deserve her. Â
He didnât deserve her.
And she didnât deserve what he was doing to her.
âYou keep spreading yourself too thin, you keep wanting to do shit for others, you keep wanting to help. But then you add the cherry on top â the fact that thereâs a chip in your head slowly killinâ ya⌠Youâve got enough on your plate. Youâve earned a few nights of rest.â
V sniffled and tried to wipe away tears, her voice wavering as she spoke, âI-If I donât keep goinâ if I donât keep looking for a solutionâ Iâm gonna die. Johnny, I donât want to dieââ
âV, youâre gonna end up dead long before the chip has an opportunity to kill you if you keep pushing yourself like this⌠You need to get some rest.â
He was right. As much as she fucking hated it⌠he was right.
She felt his metal hand cup her other cheek, the cool metal refreshing against the flushed skin, wiping away tears as he continued to speak.
âYouâve proven yourself enough to this city. Youâve proven yourself enough to me. But running yourself to the bone is not worth it in order to prove it to yourself. And youâre not alone V⌠as much as they get on my fucknâ nerves, youâve got chooms lookinâ out for ya, even if one of them is a fucknâ copââ
Through tears, V chuckled and playfully chided him, âJohnnyâŚâ
There it was⌠that little chuckle of hers that he was looking for. He wouldnât admit it to others, he wouldnât even admit it to himself, but Vâs laughter never failed to make him feel something funny in his chest⌠it wasnât like the high of drugs or liquor, but it felt just as addictive. It wasnât like the adrenaline rush of a firefight or the rush during a show, but it made him feel just as excited and lightheaded.
He cleared his throat, trying to get his mind off of that feeling, and spoke, âListen⌠all Iâm saying⌠is that youâre not alone V. And although I donât have much of a choice, whenever you need meâŚâ he playfully smiled as his eyes met hers, âIâm always here for ya V.â
And thatâs all it took.
In one moment to another, V wrapped her arms around his waist, knocking him on his ass from his previous kneeling position, and burying her head against his chest.
Despite sharing a head and body, somehow, someway, V always found a way to surprise him.
He groaned, the deep rumbles from his chest as he spoke making V settle in closer, anchoring herself to his presence.
âFuck, V, a little warning next time would be nice.â
But even as he whined⌠he wasnât complaining. Not when her sobs were beginning to fade, and she was instead chuckling at his expense in his arms.Â
He ignored that funny feeling in his chest as his organic arm wraps itself against her body, his calloused hand rubbing circles against the small of her back, feeling her trembling begin to slow under his soft touch. Over time, her breathing began to even, and soon enough she was taking deep breaths as she recovered.Â
Without even consciously doing so, Johnnyâs metal hand found itself entwined with the strands of her hair, softly caressing as Vâs eyes began to droop, and exhaustion began to overtake her body.
âV⌠itâs time for you to go to bed.â
âIâm fine Johnny, Iâmââ a yawn interrupted her mid-sentence, âIâm not even tired.â
âAnd Iâm not buying it.â He chuckled as his arm wrapped around her midsection.
âW-wait Johnny what are youâ Johnny!â In an instant, V was thrown over his shoulder as he stood from the ground, and she gripped onto him in order to avoid falling to the floor.
âWhat does it look like Iâm doing? Iâm taking you to bed.â He chuckled as he felt her hand playfully slap against his shoulder.
âFucking hell Johnny, a warning would be nice!â He could almost imagine her expression as he walked across the apartment, the way she would pout in exasperation.
âJust repaying the favor, thatâs all.â He smirked as he reached her bed. Slowly setting her down from his shoulder onto the mattress below.Â
âThere. Itâs time that you allowed yourself to get some rest, and not that weird shit you do where you sleep across the bed huddled in a little ball, but some actual sleep, under the covers and all.âÂ
âFine, fineâŚâ V slipped into a pair of nightclothes as Johnny had the decency to look away, and then slipped under the blankets, making herself comfortable. But before she drifted off to sleep, she called out, âJohnny?â
â... yeah?â
âI justâ I just wanted to say thanks. Yâknow, for tonight and all.â
ââCourseâŚâ he stepped towards the bed once more as he spoke, âI mean, if Iâm the one telling you that you need some rest, you probably fucked up somewhere along the way.â
âThatâs true⌠judging from your memories, youâre terrible at following your own advice, Johnny.â She smiled at him, uncertain if the lack of sleep had made her delirious or if perhaps she was feeling particularly honest that night, but she spoke, âYâknow, if fucking up this badly was the catalyst for us to meet⌠I would do it all over again.â
He smiled sadly in return, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear, his cold metal hand brushing her cheek as he did so. An action to acknowledge the words between them were best left unspoken and unsaidâ at least, for now.
â...Goodnight V.â He tore his gaze from her as he turned to walk away.
âWaitâ Johnny!â
She grasped his metallic hand before he had the opportunity to pull away.
â... stay with me? Just for tonight?â
With her eyes looking up at him, her smaller hand clinging onto his, causing his breath to hitch and his heart to raceâ
How could he say no?
âFine, but just for tonight. I canât have you thinkinâ Iâm goinâ soft or something.â
Johnny slipped under the covers, and without even needing to be asked, he wrapped his arms around V, and she rested her head against his chest in return.
âGet some rest, samurai⌠the city will still be there waiting for us when you awake.â

Do you have any Star Wars fanfic recommendations, or have a link to someone else's list? I really wanna veg out.
oh my god, DO I. this may have been the best ask in the world. iâm not really sure what u want a feel for, so i threw together some of my favorite longfics for maximum veg time from the ot/pt and links for swr and swtcw recs. theyâre pretty much all luke-anakin/vader centric, since thatâs kinda my bread and butter.
letâs start with frodogenic, who wrote the first longfic i ever read in sw and might be one of the funniest authors ever. they once reviewed my fanfic & i nearly cried from joy. anyway.Â
The Father, 284k+, complete. âTen years after ROTS, tormenting nightmares of his unborn child drive Darth Vader to extraordinary measures with unexpectedly drastic consequences. Clearly, experience has taught Darth Vader nothing...âÂ
this is my og star wars fic and boy oh boy is it amazing. i will never get over this. i donât want to spoil anything but when i say the final chapters are great? i mean theyâre legendary. sometimes i still think about them & wish upon a star that i could be such a great writer. vaderâs amazing, han is spectacular, and the ocs are fantastic.
Far More Than Rubies, 70k+, complete. âNine years after AOTC, tragedy revisits the Lars Homestead. Little Luke Skywalker is suddenly plunged into chaos as the rebel movements discover a secret military project that may make a crucial difference in the war with the Empire.â
the spiritual twin of The Father, FMTR takes a look at padmĂŠâs character and relationship with both luke and anakin/vader thatâs hard to beat. itâs darker and heavier than The Father, but it hits those same sweet, sweet emotional beats while raising the age-old question: if padmĂŠ had lived, what would she have done?
The Family Tree, 12k, complete. âIn which Luke Skywalker is stranded in a tree waiting for a flash flood to recede. Too bad he's got company...â
okay, i admit, this isnât a longfic, but it is a longshot, and itâs amazing. the imagery and description always blow me away, and the interaction (canon-compliant) between luke and vader just [chefâs kiss] get me. vaderâs in full, glorious form, and it makes it all the harder when luke wrestles with the knowledge that vader is his father.
Sibling Revelry, 25k, complete. âAfter Bespin and before Endor, Darth Vader is shocked to discover that Luke and Leia are twins. He's even more shocked when Imperial Intelligence reports that Organa and Skywalker are, erm, a tad closer than previously suspected.â
this is complete crack and humor in the best way possible. itâs crack treated entirely seriously, and you will be in stitches, i promise. no matter how many times iâve read this i break down.
KittandChips (@kittandchips) writes what i can only describe as food for the soul. the luke-vader interaction is insanely amazing, the world building of daily imperial life and imperial governance is amazing, and vader just has a special je ne sais quoi that u must read to understandââtragic, funny, and so, so fatherly. theyâre currently rewriting the Force Bond Series to fit in with newer canon, so i will joyously binge reread the entire again (including the new Force Bond: Mustafar Weekend).
Force Bond 1: Orphan, 47k, complete. âAfter Owen and Beru are killed by a mysterious stranger, young Luke ends up as an orphan on Coruscant. It's a race against time as Obi-Wan struggles to find Luke before Vader realizes the boy is his son.â
Orphan kicks off the series, which tracks vader and lukeâs relationship through the perils of lukeâs teenagerhood while growing up under the eye of the emperor and imperial court. itâs filled with slow growth, struggle and misunderstandings as darth vader tries to single parent, and pay off in every installment. the entire series clocks in around 777k+ and is the most joyful, fulfilling reading youâll ever have. promise.
darth-nickels (@darth--nickels) writes darker, twistier, and terribly, terribly heartwrenching aus. theyâve got a whole host, but let me introduce to my two favorites. also, check out their faux-academia on vader. itâs amazing and i love it, but i admit i am an academia hoe.
Dooku Captured, Pt 2, 16k, complete. âDooku is taken alive onboard the Invisible Hand, and Sidious' web is torn. The Sith Lord wonders if death might have been preferable to clumsy interrogation by Anakin Skywalker.â
Dooku Captured is a longshot au told from Dookuâs pov which takes the beginning of ROTS and throws it on its head. itâs a fascinating outside perspective of anakin and obi-wanâs relationship and such and interesting examination of dookuâs psyche and especially his complex relationship with the jedi order, qui-gon, yoda, and palpatine. i cannot rec this one enough.
Black Mirror, 90k, incomplete. âThe Ghost crew returns to the Lothal when they hear the Empire is investigating the Jedi Temple there. They learn Vader is alone and decide to take him out-- but what they find could change the course of Galactic history.â
Black Mirror diverges into swr territory, but make no mistake: this is entirely an examination of vader and, later, obi-wan as well as ahsoka. luke makes his appearance later in the game, and boy oh boy will you love lukeâs portrayal is a microcosm of luke and vaderâs relationship within canon. heed the tags, though.
jerseydevious ( @jerseydevious ) is, first and foremost, one of my favorite people on earth. secondly, though, sheâs an amazing writer with a deep understanding of vaderâs character and psyche, a flair for beautiful depictions, and the true ability to wring every emotion out of your body.
Two and a Half Men (with a baby), 13k, incomplete. âAfter a long day of bargaining with Hutts and attempting to ignore his past, Darth Vader is nearing the end of his rope. When he discovers his two-year-old son, it's the straw that breaks the semi-rational Sith Lord's back; in a rash act worthy of the Skywalker name, he scoops his son into his arms, steals a shuttle from his own fleet, and punches in random hyperspace coordinates to a destination on the other side of the galaxy. Unfortunately, father and son are not the only ones on the ship.â
Two and a Half Men will stick with you, dude. like no other. i promise. itâs a whirlwind ride with obi-wan, vader, and piett and as funny as it is heartbreaking. it touches on some heavy issues and doesnât shy away from looking at the damage done to vaderââagain, heed the tags.
Helioseismology, 4k, complete. âLuke gets shot down on a supply run and caught in an ice storm. It's extremely lucky that his father followed him there.â
iâll admit. im completely biased about this one because it was a birthday gift to me and i am sucker for litcherally anything when jd puts pen to paper, but believe me when i say you will be awed by the depth and tangled relationships between these luke and vader that jersey can illustrate in a stroke of the paintbrush. im love. always.
izzythehutt ( @izzythehutt ) i am blown away by the intricate dialogue and characterization, always. and the latin puns? im sold. im also a sucker for latin puns, but thatâs a story for a different time.
In Loco Pirates, 34k, complete. âA down-on-his-luck Hondo Ohnaka manages to capture the unicorn of all bounties--Luke Skywalker, which sends Darth Vader, Lord of the Sith, on a painfully familiar trip to the planet Florrum to collect his prize. The failed negotiations leave Vader in the awkward position of being stuck in a besieged pirate bunker, trying to balance keeping his wayward child safe (and in his custody) with controlling the tongue of a loose-lipped pirate who--to the surprise of no one--has a bad habit of telling 'amusing' anecdotes from the Clone Wars.â
hondo, aka the best character of swtcw, is brought to life just as vividly on paper as on screen. his entire personality brings luke and vaderâs difficulties in a sort of incredulous light, which makes it as funny as it is vulnerable and tragic. the sequel, Palpatine Ad Portas, brings piett into the spotlight, and oh man do his interactions with palpatine and vader bring u all the uncomfortable vibes. relish in it.
sparklight ( @littlesparklight ) man. lemme introduce u to an amazing prolific and detailed writer. i will never get over the series theyâve written & neither will u.
Where Our Intrepid Hero Doesnât Get Away, 122k, incomplete. âOne-shots surrounding either AU situations of canon/legends works where Luke would normally have gotten away (or Vader is simply inserted into the action to come pick his child up) but in these instances doesn't, or completely new scenarios of the same. There are no deep ruminations on consequences of the situations here, just our awful Sith dad picking his son up when he'd rather not be.â
exactly what it says on the tin. u know those glorious moments of fanfic where lukeâs gotten captured and ur on pins and needles, waiting for vader to show up in a moment of dark glory? hereâs the moment. hereâs all the moments.
Space Race, 122k, incomplete. âOwen gives in to Luke's wish to attend the Imperial Academy and Obi-Wan is too late to avert it, though he's not too late to make sure Luke leaves Arkanis before Vader can gets his hands on him. Luke spends over a month running around the galaxy before his father gets him, and from there...â
this story relishes in chase and boy is it fun. it will keep you on the edge of your seat and itâs an amazing ride.
The Suns of Tatooine, 85k, complete. âLuke ends up on a moon swamped in dark side energy after a mission goes wrong, then his father appears... and then they go on a bit of a learning experience. This could've been the only thing that would come of getting through a Sith complex with his father, but thanks to going to free Han earlier than the gang did otherwise, more revelations are had. Will that change anything?â
this series is a thoughtful, contemplative piece examining the nature of the force and the relationship the skywalkers have with tatooine. the descriptions are beautiful, the inventiveness is amazing, and youâll be thinking about it for long afterwards.
an additional fewâŚ
Between Flight and Longing; 34k, complete. âLuke Skywalker and Han Solo journey to the planet Balen'ar on a desperate mission and find more than they'd bargained for.â
a classic and it is for a reason. the interaction between han, luke, and vader is so spectacular and the slow trudge of going through the forest with your greatest enemy and best friend is something hilarious. the end is bittersweet and fantastic.
The Sith Who Brought Life Day, 13k, complete. âAn Imperial officer loses a bet and has to get Darth Vader a present for Life Day.â
somewhere between terrifying and dull, this fic presents a canon-compliant look at the hunt for luke and the grinding wheels of the empire. the oc is amazing and it echoes in true star wars spirit: sometimes itâs just some dude who can change the galaxy.
Quintessence, 5k, complete. ââWell, Master, I think Iâve found the one positive aspect of this situation.â âWhich is?â âThe Temple wonât have to pay the costs for our funeral pyres.ââ
pure hilarity and shenanigans abound in pre-aotc obi-wan and anakin hijink goodness. lemme tell uââu will deeply sympathize with mace windu afterwards. additionally, check out the rest of the authorâs oneshots! theyâre deeply thoughtful and the interactions the author writes between obi-wan and anakin are always gold.
some extras & shameless self-promotion
hereâs a full list of recommendations for star wars rebels fanfic in case this is what youâre looking for (remember when this used to be a swr blog, lmao)

Word Count: 1.2K
Heâd been shooting you glances all evening.Â
Well, to be more specific, heâd been shooting you glances every evening for the past few months. Ever since you came back to town, gave up your old life for something simpler. The backwoods of West Virginia felt familiar in a way nothing else ever had.
Except for maybe Clyde Logan.Â
He filled your chest with some sort of warm flannel in a snowstorm type heat that youâd never felt before. Made you realize just how cold the people you used to surround yourself with were. His voice was more satisfying than the sound of leaves crunching under boots heels, and his eyes looked so pretty reflecting the crackling light of the bonfire.Â
You were glad he came. Thought he might not with the way he clammed up when you invited him. It was a sizable gathering, and Clyde wasnât really one for crowdsâyouâd picked that up quickly enough, teased him for it too, what with him being a bartender and all. But when Jimmy had gotten wind of the little campfire, start of fall get together you had planned, he promised you the Logans wouldnât miss it for the world (as long as there were free drinks provided of course).Â
And so the Logans did grace your crackling, leaf-covered backyard, Jimmy helping to stack wood up and get a good blaze going while you and Clyde mixed ungodly amounts of apple cider in a stockpot on the stove, filling your tiny kitchen with the scent of clove and cinnamon and spiced rum. It was really getting into the swing of autumn, so the days ended early now, leaving the party blanketed in soft, golden hour light, fading quickly into a hazy dusk.Â
A while ago, Clyde had given you one of his coats, manifesting it miraculously from somewhere in his truck and tucking it over your shoulders. He said something about how he âwasnât gonna have ya freezinâ out hereâ despite the raging fire not too far away.Â
But you werenât going to complain. The fabric smelled pleasantly like woodsmoke and earth and whatever delicious brand of cologne Clyde used. You most certainly cut a comical figure, drowning in the coat that fell past your thighs and swallowed your arms completely, but it was well worth it with the way Clydeâs pupils went wide and looked you up and down whenever he thought you wouldnât notice.Â
Everytime you caught his eye you felt your heart throb in every muscle, some type of strange, full body longing. The coat was niceâthe yearning glances and soft, accidental brushes of your hands were all incredibly heart wrenchingâbut you were tired of the nameless feelings you shared. It was autumn afterall, the season of witchcraft. And names were powerful, names were magic and made things real.Â
And you were lookinâ to make whatever it was between the two of you a reality.Â
You spotted Clyde by the tailgate of his truck where you had set up the tumblers of warm, spiked cider. He set down the half-full, tin mug in his hands when you sauntered up, hands buried in the massive pockets of his coat.Â
âHey there darlinâ,â âChrist, you loved when he called you thatâ ânot too cold right?â
You smiled and shook your head. Behind you, the fire cracked and spit, casting shadows on Clydeâs painfully handsome face. The sight of him made you shiver.Â
Must be magic.Â
âCourse not,â you replied softly.Â
âI reckon ya look much better in that than me,â Clyde chuckled and caught the edge of your collar and rubbed it between his fingers.Â
You let your head come down to rest on his hand, feeling the chill of it against your cheeks. He was softer than you expected. The look he gave you was not. It was wanting and not knowing and hard and meant something.Â
He caught his pretty pink bottom lip between those crooked teethâthe ones you could write songs aboutâand stared down at the space where your skin touched. You needed to know what he tasted like, and the party was far enough away that no one would notice if you happened to slip away for just a minute, or a few more, or foreverâÂ
So, for once, you didnât glance away or turn your back or try and convince yourself he was looking some infinitely more beautiful thing behind you, that it wasnât your soul he was starinâ into. And you reached up, feeling the way he hand engulfed your fingers, then your palm until it had disappeared completely, and you listened to the little hitch in his breath and the shake in his voice when he spoke.Â
âWatcha doinâ there, sweetheart?â he asked, whispered really as if it was a precious secret.Â
You shook your head again, eyes never leaving him, âCome with me?â
And Clyde let you pull him gently by the hand, all the way to the big oak on the edge of the yard. Itâs branches were old and long and hid you from the firelight and the wandering gaze of partygoers. You turned and reached for his other hand, and he let you hold it, the cool metal stinging the skin of your wrist but you didnât let go. Would never let go of Clyde now that you had him.Â
He looked like he wanted to say something, looked like he wanted to say a million somethings, like there was so much stuck in his throat as you let him cage you against the tree trunk and felt the bark catch on your clothes. You brought both his hands to your waist, pressed them into you under his coat that slipped from your shoulders.Â
Clyde groaned softly when his thumb brushed a patch of bare skin and you almost choked at the look on his face. Brows furrowed, teeth worrying his lip and so unbelieving.Â
It hurt, that look, made your chest tight.Â
Of all the looks Clyde Logan had given you, that was what did it.Â
His lips were so soft, just like you knew theyâd be, and you had to wrench your head all the way back to reach them but it was worth it. You could taste the rum and cinnamon still lingering in his mouth from the cider when you licked past his teeth.Â
Clyde gasped into you, going still for a second, before his flesh and blood hand was snaking up to tangle in your hair and thumb at your wind-bitten cheek and his tongue was slipping into your mouth to taste you, finally taste you.Â
The air was cold and made Clyde feel so much warmer, the spices tasting exponentially better from his mouth. You mapped every ridge of those lovely teeth and wrapped your arms tight around his neck, getting lost in the feeling of how solid and strong and real he was.Â
It was breathless and lovely and magic.Â
When you pulled away, Clyde dropping you back down from the tips of your toes, he was smiling down at you. This big, little kid with a lollipop grin that split his face and shone down on you brighter than the fire.Â
And of all the looks Clyde Logan had given you, that one made your heart shake against your ribs and turned your center of gravity.Â
That one changed everything.Â

The Scar- Calum Hood
A/N: another 5sos fic! Calum hood x y/n. Y/nâs gender is female for this fic, it just made it easier to write, my apologies to anyone it might upset, but you can always request. Feel free to correct any mistakes! there will be a part two!
WARNINGS: this fic does contain multiple mentions of an abusive family, read at your own risk.
Not my gif!
plot: y/n and Calum meet for the first time!
2430 words
-
When y/n was still a child she had always dreamed of becoming a celebrity, like every other kid. unlike the other children though, it seemed impossible to her. To y/n, she sounded horrible, not to mention the looks. y/n had always thought this way because there was never one person to tell her otherwise. It's not like anyone knew what she was struggling with to be fair. Years of practice and motivation from her parents, the only time they encouraged y/n, lead to y/n being the perfect actor in front of others. No one would notice the damage done to y/n because the walls built around her took a team of three to build and would most likely take an even bigger team to deconstruct. Or at least that's what she thought. Apparently all y/n needed was a wrecking ball.
Day after day y/n would wake early to sit in front of her mirror with a brush. She normally wasnât the type to hate anything, other than her parents, because nothing could compare to the years of trauma her parents had stocked her up on. So when y/n said she hated her foundation brushes, she meant it.
Makeup used to be one of her favorite things, she used it as a pastime. When she was a young teen, she spent most of her time in her room trying as many looks as possible. It wasnât like her to believe that you could only have one aesthetic, she would change her look up as many times as she wanted. Going from âemoâ looks one day to âkawaiiâ looks the next. It only made sense that she would do the same with her makeup as well. Her parents didnât seem to mind the looks. Whatever would cover up the bruises they gifted her seemed to be helping them in some twisted way. One day it all fell apart though. Everything her parents had built was destroyed.Â
The process left y/n with a humongous scar on her face. The scar started right above her right eyebrow. If it had ended below the eyebrow, it would have just seemed like she wanted an eyebrow slit, she might have even been able to cover it easily with a brow pencil. If it had ended there, but it didnât. It ended right above her jaw bone. It wasnât straight either. Most scars can go away with time, but hers was too deep. It would never go away. It showed her and the world her past. She hated it.Â
So, as much as she hated the foundation brushes she used every morning, she continued to use them. That hideous scar needed to be covered up. Especially with all the attention she was getting. Once news came out that two well liked members of y/nâs small hometown abused their child, people were furious. Many tried helping y/n. One of the teachers at school had convinced her to try out for the drama club. She received the leading role in Annie for the schoolâs play. News spread fast in the town and soon people had begun to call colleges and agencies to come watch her performance, all of which y/n had no clue they were doing. One specific agency had agreed to work with her for free until she got off the ground. She almost rejected the opportunity. That was until her foster mother had informed her that her parents werenât going to spend as much time in jail as they had hoped. Taking the opportunity had forced y/n to continue high school in Los Angeles. She was also set up with a new foster home. Throughout all of this, the scar was hidden. She didnât want her chance to leave to be taken away.Â
Years later and no one she surrounded herself with knew of her past, or even seen her scar. Not even the makeup artists sheâs worked with. She always showed up a foundation on and since it was a perfect match to her color, the makeup artists let it slide and just continued to transform her into her characters.
y/n had in fact gotten off the ground, it was now a daily thing for her to be recognized. She even met some celebrities she grew up with.
There was one day though, soon after her 23rd birthday, that y/n had not put on foundation. She felt that she wouldnât be recognizable without it, so she wanted to try it. She had woken up later than usual then dressed herself in shorts and a tee. She went on a run and low and behold, no one recognized her. She ended up at her usual cafe. Just like every morning, she walked up the cashier and ordered her usual. The cashier, Linda, a nice old lady, who had worked there every morning tried not to stare. It was a weird experience for both of them. Linda could have sworn that y/n looked familiar, but she shrugged it off. y/n was holding back an expression of surprise, she thought that out of everyone Linda would have noticed her. Once she received her coffee, she went to leave. That is when she ran into her wrecking ball, not that she knew it. y/n had spilt her coffee all over the strange man she knew as Calum. She didnât know much about Calum, she only knew his name from the few times she had heard his name being called for his coffee. She also knew that Cal was well aware of who she was, with makeup that is.
âIm so sorry!â y/n exclaimed. She mightâve still been in shock from the events that had happened so far into the day, but there was no way she could have missed the look she received from the man. It wasnât one of disgust, but more of one of surprise. The look he had however, didnât match hers. He wasnât in surprise from the coffee he had spilt on him, but rather the girl in front of him.Â
âItâs fine really.â Calum stated as kindly as possible. There was no way he could ever even think of being rude to a lady so beautiful.Â
âItâs really not, I can pay for the shirt and for whatever you were gonna order.â she offers in a hurried tone even if she wasnât in a rush. This is because she thought he was trying not to give her pity.Â
âNo need, I actually feel as if I should buy you another one-â he offers, â- it was my fault anyways, i'm so clumsy iâve been in this situation before.â he lied. y/n was well aware of the lie. Most of the time she was here before him and left after him, she had not seen it happen. An argument be that heâs done it before she moved into the neighborhood, but that also wasnât true because y/n had witnessed him and Roy struggling to carry a couch into their home while on her run. She had actually had a conversation with Roy and she probably could have become good friends with him if she had tried.Â
âIt's fine reallyâ the words coming out of her mouth this time. Before they could interact anymore though, Linda had appeared to usher them both out of the way to clean the mess that was made. She had begun to lecture Calum, one of her favorite clients, on making a mess when y/n slipped out of the Cafe. she stuck her head back in though to apologize to one last time to both of them before running off.Â
She had made it home and took a shower when there was a knock at the door. Realizing that her scar was uncovered, she tried to cower.Â
âY/n, itâs Roy! I...um brought cookies to celebrate your new movie! Oh and a friend.â That was the last thing she had expected to hear through her door. She knew the friend had to be Calum, she also knew she would have to explain herself to the men. Finally getting the courage, she opened the door. Before you could say anything Calum had begun to talk.Â
âHey, itâs you again. What are you doing here?â he asked. Suddenly feeling shy y/n lowered her head.Â
âAre you ok?â Calum pressed. Looking up again she can see both the boys now wearing concerned faces.
âY/n?â Roy questioned. Gulping, y/n decided to just rip the bandage off.
âYep, that's me. Nice to see you Roy.â slightly shaking she opens the door wider as if to invite them in. Roy understood what she meant and walked in, his expression now gone and replaced with his original smile, Calum on the other hand still wore his as he followed his friend in. She led the men into her living room.
âSorry for the mess.â she states. Calum and Roy looked around to see what she was talking about. Calâs brows frowning more. There was no mess. To them anyways, to y/n her only thought was that her parents would murder her for having friends over without vacuuming and tidying every corner of the house. They sat down and y/n left to go get them drinks. While in the kitchen she could hear them whispering about her. Wiping any look of sadness from her face, she picked up the drinks and headed back into the living room. Handing them their drinks, she places coasters onto the table for them. They have a light conversation, them being Roy and y/n. Cal was too busy staring at her. He was confused, how could he have not realized. How come he didnât know that the beauty of both women was actually the beauty of one. Finally giving into the stares y/n sighs.
âI know youâre probably confused about the...um you know-â she says, gesturing to her face, âi just didnât want anyone to find out about it yet. Thereâs not really any good memories that came with it. You understand right?âÂ
âOf course!â Roy claims, nodding his head then nudging his friend, who also nodded but not nearly as harsh as Roy had done.Â
âWe wonât say anything if that's what youâre askingâ Calum states, he could see that them agreeing with her hadnât reassured her enough. She smiles gently at him as Roy agrees again. The conversation had now been a lot more free. All three of them were involved now. The conversation drifted to her movie and their music at points. y/n felt bad as she had genuinely gotten a liking to them, Calum in particular. She wanted to talk to them again, but her past was coming to haunt her, she couldnât. The cookies were amazing, store bought, but amazing. They trio all slowly coming quiet, they had spent hours together chatting. It was now 4 in the afternoon. It seemed as neither man wanted to leave. It had been a while since they had made a new friend. Calum excused himself to the bathroom, leaving y/n and Roy. she tried her best to hint that it may be time for them to leave without seeming rude. Roy helped her bring the cups and trash into the kitchen. He watched as she cleaned each cup multiple times. To him it must have seemed as if she were nervous because she was being watched. To her though, each mug needed to be perfectly spotless or something bad would happen. It was rooted into her mind. If you dug deep enough into it, you would see y/nâs memories of being yelled at and having dishes and pots thrown at her for not having the house perfectly cleaned. Calum, finally out of the bathroom, joined Roy. together they watched the woman dry her hands before turning towards them. Before she could get a word out, Roy suggested that they should get going. Calâs eyes couldnât have missed her smile quickly dropping before resuming back to its original place. y/n nods before leading the kind men back to her front door. Roy leaning slightly to give her a hug and saying a quick bye, she responded as she knew how.Â
âGoodbye.â It was a simple statement really, but she was taught to never try to stay in touch with people outside of necessity. Though she did give him another kind smile, one that shows her teeth in just the slightest way. Now facing Cal who, unlike his friend, was staring at the floor. Roy, waiting for him at the gate, tries his hardest not to watch their interaction. From his point of view, he can see them talking before y/n goes completely still. y/n was in shock, she had never been in this situation before. She didnât know how to respond. Cal had asked for her number. She didnât have anyone who wasnât work related on her phone, should she let herself add a contact for Cal? She didnât know the answer, she stayed still, evening out her breathing while she felt two different sets of eyes on her. Still as stiff as humanly possible, she smiles and hands her, now open, phone to Calum. He grins so softly that y/n missed it, he handed her his unlocked phone as well. He creates a contact in her phone with all his information before snapping a quick photo of himself. He listed himself as âcute neighborâ, which is quite bold seeing as he had no idea if y/n liked him, and pressed save. On Calumâs phone, yân had simply only typed her phone number and listed herself as ây/nâ. Before she could press save, Calum handed her phone back to her, she looked at the contact and her lips lifted. She turned off her phone and put it in her pocket. She looked back to Calumâs phone and changed her name to âscar girlâ before saving the contact and passing the phone back to him. Unfortunately for her, Calum didnât look at the contact and just shut off the phone. Which might have been better if she thought about it. She didnât want to see Calumâs reaction to the name, she just hoped it was positive. As they looked into each others eyes, a blush formed onto their cheeks. y/n whispered a silent goodbye before walking back into her home and softly closing the door.Â

13 for the voice ask đđ
13)Â Iâll talk about my favorite character
okay look. iâm like 2 months late buT THATS BC LIFE TOOK OVER AND ALSO I NEVER GET THE CHANCE TO BE ALONE TO RECORD MYSELF RAMBLING so instead of stalling forever and ever i guess iâll just have to write it all instead of talk about it in an audio clip.Â
i already knew who i was gonna talk about when hana sent this ask in. i told you i was gonna do it hana.
anyway if you havenât yet, you should read oh what a world. youâll go on a journey
thereâs just something about a redemption fic that makes me wanna climb a mountain and scream and hana does it so well. weâre immediately introduced to park jimin - a guy whoâs fucked up in all aspects of life. and i was immediately a goner for him when the opening scene is of him with the man who was once his best friend sob sob sob. you can see how much they love each other, but you can also see how far away they are from each other đ and he proves time and time again throughout this series that heâs trying to be better. and repair all the bridges heâs burned. and like im already tearing up thinking about how lonely heâs been for so long :((((((( like my baby donât even got frens to ask to be his groomsmen like wtf is up with that đđđ and his strained relationship with his brother who hana just had to make taetae and just seeing them slowly mending their relationship just has me in TEARS sob sob (âWhile neither admit it, the otherâs presence is mutually appreciated amidst the vulnerability of the moment.â from pt 11 SOB SOB). when jimin realizes how little he knows about his brotherâs life, his friendsâ lives because heâs been so stuck in his own head and he doensât know how to fix it but he wants to try. i mean sera said it best, right? he has good intentions sometimes he gets lost along the way. and then he meets oc and heâs so blindsighted by these feelings for her but he doesnât even fight it and heâs living with rose tinted glasses and i know a lot of ppl think of him as naive for that but i dunno, that just makes him all that more endearing. in a world where everyoneâs so weary and worn down by love, heâs willing to make it his pillar. he wants love to be enough in a world where everyone perceives love as either a weakness or just not enough. like itâs just so glaringly obvious when itâs their turn to make their speeches in ch 12. heâs so hurt but heâs still so in love and all he wants is for oc to see how special she is and how worthy of love she is even if itâs not from him SOB SOB SOB and like in pt 8 at the beginning it says âHe makes it easy.â and like, isnât that just everything??? when a partner makes it so easy to fall :â(((( that was his goal from the beginning though, wasnât it? evenbefore he started to like her he wanted to make the transition as easily as possible. his first step towards making it right with everyone and everything in his life. and as easily as he made it for her, oc also made it so easy for him đđ and not even @ how heâs always listening to her and remembering all these things about her. and then how he was willing to lose it all for her đđ LIKE THAT PART WHERE HE TELLS HER IN ADVANCE that heâs going to kiss her in pt 12 and even though he thinks heâll never be enough- could never compare to him (i refuse to type out his name no way not in this jimin love letter) heâs okay with it. because he loves her. because heâs finally gotten a taste of what itâs like to love someone- to really love someone and now he knows how much it hurts but he wouldnt trade it for the world (âOne look at you, and he forgets all the reasons the two of you shouldnât be together. All he can think about is how he felt when you ran through the doors of the waiting roomâsafe, relieved, and maybe even loved. And the feeling is addictive.â from pt 9 OSB SOB) and i know the reuploads arenât all up yet so i wont spoil the ending but i just love owaw!jimin so so much and his final decision and his devotion to his family. also jimin prefers waffles to pancakes so obviously heâs my favorite.
in so many chapters we get to witness jimin growing up and grappling with his regrets and moving forward not just for oc and his friends and his brother but for himself. especially for himself and its just so beautiful and he deserves the world and he got it and i love that for him. in this ted talk i will
#cutechim#mai got mail#like 2 months ago#hahaha#owaw#also i know i only talked ab jimin#but owaw!oc is also 100%% my baby

Prompts? This is a happy day! If you wish! I'm writing something similar but I need more cakes in the flavor and you write emotions so well! But early days in the archives and Tim and Sasha are giving Jon the cold shoulder and maybe there's an accident or something Jon really needs help with but he doesn't think he can go to either of them and he doesn't know Martin. And the next day he rolls up sick, or beat to hell, or has a cast, or a black eye, and Tim and Sasha are like WAT? And then feels!
Here you are! How do you know EXACTLY what to prompt me??? This is so my speed. So here you go- I hope you like!
âYouâve survived your first month in the Archives! Thatâs cause for celebration, Martin. Drinks on me!â
Timâs cheerful tones werenât hard to miss. Perhaps he didnât notice Jon standing in the doorway, small and timid. He realized it was the middle of a rather stressful work week, but he just needed a little bit of help with some boxes. Heâd been tired and worn out for the better part of the week, and the small ladder in Document Storage was rickety at best. Martin and Tim were both much taller and stronger than him- hell, even Sasha couldâve probably gotten the job done. Just a few minutes and then they could be on their way, to wherever they planned to go. Without him.Â
Sasha was the one who noticed him. âOh- hey, Jon. Did you need something?âÂ
He looked at the other two, twitching with clear impatience. Martin opened his mouth to speak but Tim made some sort of hushing motion with his hand. A sinking feeling made its way through Jonâs chest and to his stomach- the thought of asking for even the smallest of favors filled him with anxiety. He didnât think he could bear seeing their faces when they said no.Â
âEr, no, just- have a good night, yeah?â His voice sounded off, even to him, but they didnât seem to make much of it, nodding awkwardly.
âYou too!â Martin called after him as Jon scurried down the hallway, biting down whatever sadness stuck in his throat. Heâd be here all night most likely.Â
It didnât bother him.
______
Jon stared up at the boxes looming tauntingly on the shelf, filled with statements that were likely just as disorganized as the ones on the shelf below. But these were labeled with the most recent dates in the Archive, and thatâs what he planned on going through for the rest of the week.
Back in research, Tim used to prank him by putting things on the highest of shelves- books he needed, tea he wanted. It irked him but Tim would always be right around the corner to lend a helping hand and a teasing word. It got Jon out of his head for a moment, something very few people could accomplish.Â
Tim still put things on high shelves in their break room but it just felt cruel, now that he wasnât comfortable enough to ask for help. Now that Tim was never around the corner.
He put a tentative foot on the step ladder, grimacing as it leaned to the side. Heâd put in an order for a new one at the beginning of his tenure but Elias never responded. He felt bad bothering the man with such a petty request when he could just ask his assistants for help. What was he supposed to tell him? âHey my assistants seem to hate me and Iâm too scared to ask themâ didnât inspire much confidence.
Jon took another step forward, willing the ladder to stabilize. He needed to get to the fourth step to even have a chance of reaching the box, high up as it was. Just a bit further.
He made it to the fourth when everything went to hell. As soon as he reached his hands toward the box the ladder creaked and listed dangerously to the side, throwing him wildly off balance. He flailed right off the side, landing with a yelp and a crack on the cold concrete floor of Document Storage.Â
The pain emanating from his left arm was almost paralyzing-it had taken almost all his weight in the fall and was lying awkwardly across the floor. It brought tears to his eyes as he tried to move it so he just laid there for a bit, willing himself not to pass out from the pain. How ridiculous he must have looked, lying prone on the ground, defeated by a fucking stepladder.Â
When he finally decided to sit up his head spun- he only got as far as scooting back and leaning his head onto a shelf, trying to control his breathing. He had his phone in his pocket. If he needed help, he could just call Sasha or Tim or even Martin. His arm didnât feel right and he would probably have to go to a clinic or the A & E, something he hated doing. He didnât think he could brush this one off.
But what if they didnât answer? He thought about the three of them at the bar, laughing and talking. Tim would be regaling them with some ridiculous story, his phone would ring. He would glance down at it, see Jonâs name and flip it over, ignoring it.Â
Or worse, they would come, see him huddled on the floor and laugh. They would try to hold it in at first- they werenât that rude. But as they helped him to his feet they wouldnât be able to contain it. How embarrassing he was, how ridiculous. Jon couldnât bear to be laughed at.
Two weeks ago he had walked past the upstairs break room on his way back from a meeting with Elias. It was entirely unproductive; he could sense Eliasâs growing frustration with his lack of progress. Jon wondered if he regretted making him his Head Archivist, if he was already thinking of suitable replacements. Jon wouldnât blame him.
And thatâs when he heard it- an odd, mocking voice that he knew belonged to Ryan from research. Ryan and Jon never got on- Ryan was talkative and prone to gossip, and every attempt he had made to talk to Jon had been shut down by his inability to carry a conversation. On the odd times they were paired together to work, Jon took the brunt of it with utter silence, unwilling to complain about the man lest he be deemed more difficult than he already was.
But the voice he put on- stuffy and posh- was a caricature of Jonâs own. And sure enough, when he glanced in the doorway he saw Ryan hunched over a table, someone elseâs glasses on his face as he screwed it up in a scowl and carried on as âJonathan Sims, Head Archivist of the Magnus Instituteâ to his captive audience.
His captive audience which included Sasha and Tim.Â
He felt his heart shatter as the group laughed at the impression. It was accurate, why shouldnât they? God, why hadnât he realized how much everyone hated him here? Any respect he thought he earned faded quickly with this showing. He found himself sprinting down the hallway and locking himself in his office, ignoring Martinâs concerned inquiries as he desperately tried to blink back tears.
Remembering the incident brought the shame and embarrassment back tenfold. No, he would deal with this himself. That was the best course of action.
He took fifteen minutes to properly wallow but once his heart rate lowered and the pain was at manageable, dull roar he got to his feet and staggered down the aisle, constantly searching for a handhold. He had everything he needed on him- it wasnât so cold that he couldnât go without a jacket, and he knew he wouldnât get any work done this evening.Â
Making his way down the hallway and up the stairs was almost tortuous; he paused several times and took deep breaths to avoid passing out and making the problem worse. By the time he got to the lobby Rosie was already gone for the day and Ed, the janitor, was idly mopping by the front door.
ââAve a good night, sir,â the man said without looking up. âCareful though, sâslippery over-whoa there, Sims!â
He must have looked as awful as he felt because the man dropped his mop and made his way over to his side, his face the picture of concern. Jon was holding his arm at an awkward angle so as not to jostle it. âSâfine,â he wearily started. âHave a good night, Ed.â
âDonâ look fine to me, Jonny.â Jon hated this nickname, but he never let on. He didnât want to upset the one man who still greeted him day and night, no matter how stressed and irritable Jon looked. It was a nice, comforting routine. âSomethinâ happen?â
âJust took a fall, nothing serious,â he lied, well aware that his palm was scraped and crusted with blood. âIâll just be going, got a train to catch-â
âLet me get you a cab, son,â he said, a paternal hand on his shoulder. âShouldnât be on the tube looking like that, bound to make it worse.â Jon began to voice his protest but the man was already out the door, waving and stamping in the street. He would smile at the scene if he had the energy for it. Instead he just staggered after him, wincing with every step.
âOver here!â the man shouted, standing by a cab a little ways down the road. Ed opened the door and ushered him in, hands helpful and gentle and so kind that Jon has to blink away tears. âThereâs a good lad. Take âim to the closest A & E, will ya?â Jon watched as he shoved a pocketful of bills in the cabbies hand.
âEd, youâve already done enough-â
âNonsense,â he waved Jon off, still looking at him with that mix of warmth and concern that Jon so desperately needed. âYou just get that checked out, yâhear? Anâ come back in one piece!â With that, he shut the door and gave him a wave, standing in place until the car was out of sight.
Jon couldnât hold back his tears after that.
_______
Jon comes in the next day, arm freshly broken and in a sling, medicated to the gills. He paused at first, considering not taking the pain medication but he eventually gave in as the pain progressed throughout the morning. Heâs a little late and heâs going to have to march past his assistantsâ desks and attempt to avoid questions.Â
âWhoa there, boss! What happened?â Tim says immediately upon his arrival. Jon avoids his gaze and looks to the ground, walking as quickly as possible to his office and shutting the door. He deserves a bit of peace before the inevitable interrogation.
Of course, he would never be so lucky. All three assistants are soon hovering around the doorway, looking at him with a worry he doesnât deserve. He sighs as he casts his eyes to the desk and slumps down in his chair.
âTook a spill yesterday, nothing serious,â he mutters in as staid a tone as he could manage. âNow, if you could please get back to work-â
âYouâre not getting out of this that easily,â Sasha says, coming over to his desk, Tim not far behind. Martin stays in the doorway, ever polite. âYou were fine we left!â
âIt happened shortly afterwards. I advise none of you to use the stepladder for the time being.â He manages a weak smile that none of them return.
âStepladder? Boss, I told you not to use that anymore!â Tim plops down in a chair, legs immediately going over the arm of it. Jon always imagined them talking in the office like this- a stupid fantasy he entertained when he first got the position. No one had ever sat in those chairs, they just stood in his office and counted the seconds until they could leave. âWhy didnât you ask us for help?â
âI-I was going to,â he begins, feeling instantly guilty at the thought of making them feel bad. âBut- well, you looked like you had plans.â
Tim and Sasha exchanged a look. âYou shouldâve at least called us when it happened,â Sasha says, a hand on his desk. Jon aches to take it. âWe were right around the corner.â
âI know,â he says. He feels out of it, vulnerable and loose and unmoored. Likely from the meds.Â
âYou knew and you still didnât call?â Martin this time, his voice incredulous.
âI didnât think you would come,â his voice is no more than a whisper and his chest aches something fierce. His hands tighten into fists at the silence that follows; he nervously starts to fill it.
âI know-look, itâs fine weâre not friends any more,â he starts, trying to keep his voice level. âBut it- it just seems like you donât want me to be your boss either?â His voice goes higher in pitch and he canât seem to stop babbling. âI just- I need to know where I stand. So I know whatâs okay to ask. I know this isnât ideal but I- I need help sometimes. Not a lot, just...just sometimes.âÂ
âJon,â Tim has a hand on his arm and an urgency in his voice. âThatâs not- of course we would have come. Of course.âÂ
âI didnât want you to laugh at m-me.â Christ, could he not get a handle on his emotions for five goddamn minutes? Why was he still talking?
âWe would never laugh-âÂ
âBut you did!â The words burst forward, almost a yell. âI-I saw you the other day. With Ryan- laughing at me. You know I donât-â The breaths come quick and he can feel the tears coming down his face. God, what a mess he was. âI donât understand where it all went wrong. If- if you donât like me, why did you accept this job? Why are you here? What- what do I need to do better? Why were you laughing at me!â Jon dissolves into a mess of sobs as he slams his chair back from his desk, desperate to put as much space as he could between himself and his assistants.
But Jon never gets what he wants. Tim has his arms wound gently around his body, taking care to avoid the sling. And Sasha is there, a hand on his back as well.
âWe- we werenât laughing, Jon,â Tim tries, but Sasha cuts in.
âBut we didnât exactly tell him to knock it off, did we?â Her voice is angry and Jon doesnât know who itâs aimed towards. He feels so stupid, so childish for breaking down like this but he knows what he saw. What he heard. âRyanâs a jealous dick, he was just being mean. And...I guess we were being sort of mean, too.â
Tim takes over from there. âLook- things have gotten messy since we came down here, yeah? Weâre...adjusting, thatâs for sure. And Iâm sorry that we made you feel like you did something wrong.â
âI- I did though, I must have-â
âNo- Jon, look at me,â He hazards a glance at Sashaâs face, looking anywhere but her eyes. âYou know me. Emotions arenât particularly my forte. Itâs- itâs a lot easier not to talk about things, but that doesnât mean itâs right. It was a lot easier to hold onto my anger at being passed over, yâknow?â
âIf you told me- I wouldâve had Elias switch us, I swear-â
âWe donât have to switch. To be honest, I donât think I know how the fuck an Archive is supposed to be run either. At least not one like this,â She gestures to the room and Jon manages a weak smile.Â
âIâm not very good when things get messy, either,â Tim admits, leaning awkwardly on a file cabinet in order to keep an arm around him. Jon hopes the gesture is genuine, and not just an attempt to placate the man having an emotional breakdown in the middle of the office. âBut for what itâs worth, Iâm sorry. Iâve been a right ass. So while Iâm trying to make it up to you, how about you let me and Martin handle the top shelf from now on, yeah?â The joke feels familiar. This is territory Jon can manage.
âYeah, yeah,â Jon wipes a hand across his face, finally feeling a bit more stable. âSâfine. I forgive you.â He takes the tissue Sasha offers. âSorry for being so- er, dramatic. The pain medication is quite something, to be honest.â
âOh God,â Sasha is suddenly all business. ââYou shouldnât be at work right now. Not like this- Timâll take you home, right?â Tim nods, tightening his arm around Jonâs shoulder.
âYeah- youâre not going to get anything done like this, Jon. Have a rest, Sashaâll tell Elias whatâs going on, yeah?â
âOf course.â
There it is again- of course. Maybe if they keep saying that, itâll make it true.Â
Jon doesnât argue as heâs ushered out of the Institute- whatever that was took a lot out of him, and he knows heâs useless to his team like this, dazed and unstable. Martin follows them outside- Jon had almost forgotten he was there. He had slipped out of the office during the worst of it, kindly giving them some space. He wants to thank him but he doesnât know how. Instead he listens as Martin rattles off all the things Tim should watch out for, like a nervous mother hen.
âI got it, Martin,â Tim says patiently. âBut Iâll call you if anything happens.â Martin reluctantly backs off, giving the two of them a wave as they drive out of the parking lot.
âJon,â Tim begins, putting a special emphasis on his name. He missed being called Jon. âYou know Iâll always come when you call. I promise. Iâd- Iâd never laugh at you, not like that.â
You know. Of course.
âOkay,â Jon responds, staring out the window. He hopes itâs true. If not, well- the words are a start, right?

Taking A Break
Hey guys, so on my last post I said that I had just gotten out of a four year relationship and well, as you can imagine itâs a bit jarring for me. Please, no worries, Iâm not having a mental breakdown nor am I in any danger of doing something stupid. And I mean it. Truthfully. But, Iâd like to talk a bit about it if you donât mind and give some wisdom, or at least a story to tell.Â
When I was fifteen, a tenth grader, my older brother (who is a year older than me) was very abusive. It was verbal and emotional and left me in a dark place. As a kid with anxiety and depression, who was excepted to sill be the pinnacle of perfect, you can imagine how difficult it was for me and how much I craved companionship, and to belong somewhere. And well, thatâs when I met my s/o. We were both in a dark place and together through the years, we helped and relied on each other. It was a war that we fought side by side. I relied and loved him and he, me. It was a long distance relationship. He lived across the country and we could only see each other a few times a year, which made things unique for us.
But we grew older. And made a lot of fond and fun memories along the way. And I donât regret a moment of it. He helped me become the person I am today and I will always love him for it. Iâm no longer scared of the world, and I no longer let myself get walked on. My depression and anxiety, I have a real handle on. Iâm not suicidal anymore and my panic attacks are few or managable or at least recognizable. My brother grew up too. Heâs no longer angry and abusive, but rather a pretty cool brother. Donât get me wrong, it took a lot for us to mend our relationship, but we did and now we have a mutual respect for each other. My parents and I are on better terms after I moved out and went to college for a year and now Iâm not so alone and dependent. In fact, Iâm thrilled about life! I never thought Iâd ever make it to eighteen and now Iâm in college, and I have a huge horizon of possibilities in front of me! I was in college, and engaged to be married to my prince charming who saved me. Well...
Letâs talk about my relationship. Where and when I was growing, he stayed the same. Though I tried again and again to give him advice and help him and even get him to help himself, he just didnât. And thatâs extremely frustrating. But, as someone who believes in the best of everyone even in the worst of people, I persisted. I could see the potential, especially since I was growing and seeing the potential I had myself. But he still refused to listen. All he wanted to do was complain about where he was and for me to console him. And whenever I pointed it out, heâd promise to do better and that he was sorry, and I believed him. And it would get better for a while.Â
Now donât get me wrong, it wasnât always like this, nor was it as often as youâd think but since January, it began to really drain everything from me. All of our conversations would be about what was wrong in his life and I began to distance myself. I still loved him though and believed in him. It was hard to really take a step back, because as far back as I could remember he was there, just a constant. And until college I didnât really know how to be independent or if I could even make it on my own because of how I was raised. But college showed me that there is so much more to the world and to me. And I desperately wanted to share that with him, but he was still stuck in the same place that we met.
Then the little things started to occur to me that maybe this wasnât healthy for me at all. Iâm very passionate about what I love (if you havenât noticed thus far) and heâd say things that would sap all of the happiness out of those things. My music, my fandoms, my art... Heâd constantly rip on my favorite characters or my favorite artists or say that the way I did things wasnât the best way. And as someone who took a long time to become confident in herself, it was jarring, because I loved him and I felt like I couldnât talk to him about anything else that I loved. Our interests shifted and what we wanted out of life changed.
Then I came out to him. Which was very new to both of us and had me freaking out to tell him because how in the world was I supposed to tell him that I was asexual? But I thought, well, heâll love me still. It was a nice thought. He crushed me when I told him. He didnât tell me he was proud, or that he still loved me. He just went quiet. And when I asked him what he was thinking, well he said that he was concerned that his future wife didnât want to have sex with him and maybe that there were some barriers that would fade with time and maybe after we were married Iâd want to again.Â
Yeahp.Â
You can imagine how back into a corner I felt then. After a while he apologized and came to terms with it, but the damage was done and it still hurts, even now. But then I realized something.Â
When I came out to my best friend, she was so excited and proud of me. And everyone else I told (even you guys) were proud of me and accepted me and I realized that I wasnât alone. And Iâm not alone. Not in the slightest. I have parents who love me and who I can now talk to about how I feel. I donât have to be perfect for anyone anymore because I already am, just the way I am. I have amazing mentors and friends from college who love me and are there for me and I have close friends who I can fall back on if I need to. Most importantly, I love whoâs in the mirror and sheâs got my back too.Â
But I was afraid, because, well itâs hard to end a long term relationship, even though I wanted out. I was afraid of what other people would say, of telling them, of breaking off an engagement when everyone was so happy for me and it took me probably longer than it should have, but the choice I made was the right one and Iâm certain of it. Even if itâs just goodbye for now, it still had to be goodbye.Â
He wanted me to be the person that I was four years ago, and Iâm not her anymore. She is so far gone, even though I still love her and that part of my life, I wonât forfeit who I am not for the sake of âtrue loveâ
So, why am I telling you this? Well, one I wanted to let you know whatâs going on in my life, but two, I wanted to let you guys know that âtrue loveâ doesnât come from one person for the rest of your life. I believe in true love, and in agape, but itâs not from one source all the time. Fairytales are amazing and I adore them but my happily ever after is going to be on my terms. Itâs not something Iâm going to compromise on because itâs my life and Iâve fought hard for it. And the girl I was four years ago deserves everything I can give her.Â
And the same goes for you. Youâve fought hard for who you are today, and if you donât like who that is, well keep working on it! Keep fighting for it because itâs beautiful and amazing and something to chase. And to those of you who have been suicidal and who either still deal with it or have, donât give in! From someone whoâs been there myself, please believe me when I tell you there is so much more to life than you can ever imagine.Â
And, this is a huge change for me. Iâve never been âsingleâ before and though I donât plan on dating any time soon, itâs a lot for me to adjust to and settle into. I really am happy and proud of myself because itâs something I did for myself and the best thing I could have done for myself and now I feel free to chase after the sun without having to worry about pulling him up with me. Iâm free to be me.Â
That being said, Iâm going to take a break on writing my Hufflepuff and Gryffindor series for right now. And I really hate to disappoint you guys because I know you love reading them and I love seeing you guysâ reactions, but right now, I canât bring myself to write those scenarios until Iâve settled into who I am a bit and can do so without a bleak outlook, if you can imagine. I want to give you happily ever afters with Draco. I really do, but right now I canât do that with these stories, not yet. So forgive me as I take a break with them.Â
Itâs not to say I wonât be writing! I will still write I promise!! I donât know what or when, but I will write for Draco and I will show you my heart and emotions as I always do. You guys mean so much to me, you have no idea and I love writing for you guys as much as I do myself so I promise I wonât stop. But please, keep in mind that Iâm going through some things on the âouternetâ and that requires a bit more of my emotional quota than the internet.Â
I love all of you.Â

Hi. So how about a story where Henry or one of his characters (your choose) comes home to find his S/o (reader) bent over the oven door, ass in the air, as she scrubs the oven clean. Her head inside the oven, trying to see what she is doing and her torso twisted at an odd angle . He hears her grunting and groaning and cursing cuz itâs so nasty and caked on.
Okay, so I've been in a Marshall kick and he probably wasn't the first character to come to mind when you sent me this prompt, but he's the one I'm going with, haha! Also, sorry this took forever. Literally. Also I loved writing this and kind of want to make a series out of it omgg.

Marshall had been a little aggravated by your pushiness. He wasn't used to having a woman coming on to him and rather, he didn't much chase women either. After going through his divorce, he had decided to focus on his daughter and his career, deciding love just wasn't in the cards for him. And that had seemed true for a few years until you came along. He often wondered if you just felt sorry for him, if you were just looking at him like a pathetic, lonely man, nothing more than just someone to gift your time to. And for that reason, Marshall had walled himself off from you, sure that you were just going to walk out of his life just as quickly as you had barged in.Â
But you were persistent. You had started with bringing him coffee to the precinct and that was already bad enough because it got people talking. Other officers had started asking Marshall if he was having lunch delivered too, and every time it brought a red, burning hot blush to his face. He didn't like it. He wanted to tell you off, ask what your problem was, but he never did. Something always kept him from blowing up on you.Â
You had started sending him text messages more often, too. Little ones, just 'Hey, how was your day?' and 'Good night.' It wasn't like Marshall to hold a conversation through text, you were lucky to even get a reply, but you kept at it anyway, not liking the air about the man. Marshall always seemed so lonely, sad and you just wanted to help. You thought you had started to get through to him when he had finally invited you over. It wasn't the cleanest place, but you hadn't expected it to be. He was a single man living alone and while that wasn't an excuse, you knew he probably didn't have the energy in his downtime.Â
Downtime, as if he had any of that.Â
Even now, you stood alone in the hallway of Marshall's home, looking into his office at the spiderweb of photos and news clippings that were stuck to the wall. He was always working. Sometimes you even brought dinner over to him, late in the evening when you knew he'd gotten off after a double shift and wouldn't have the energy to cook for himself. Marshall had started to warm up to you and that was how you'd gotten a key to his home.Â
This was your first time being alone inside, however, and it felt heavy. Like even though the detective wasn't here, the heavy feeling of what he carried still remained. You turned your attention to the kitchen, reminding yourself why you were here. The man's house wasn't clean by any standard and no one deserved to live with such a mess around them. You had already made your way through the rooms, throwing out food containers and cups, picking up any dirty dishes that were scattered around. And now the kitchen needed your focus.
It felt like hours had passed since you cleaned out the fridge and cabinets and now the stove was your next target. Opening the oven, you got down on your knees next to the open door and peered inside at the grime and gunk that was burned and caked-on inside. You felt your shoulders tense, your lip curls up in a snarl as you winced at the filth. Exhaustion was already overcoming you, but the rest of his house was clean and now this was the last thing you had on your list. The only thing that kept you going was the hope of seeing a smile on Marshall's face for the first time.
Grabbing your sponge and cleaning solution, you lightly let a knee rest on the oven door, your other foot still planted firmly on the kitchen floor as you arched your back and leaned into the oven. Grumbles and curses fell off of your tongue as your elbow ached from scrubbing at the oven wall, your nose wrinkling from the charred smell. Inside the oven, it had dampened your hearing, muffling the sound of the front door open opening and closing. You had twisted your torso to the left, at an awkward angle as you tried to get your hand into the far back corner of the oven, wanting the whole thing practically shining before you'd be done with it.
Marshall stepped into the kitchen, expecting to find you somewhere from your car being parked out front, but he hadn't been prepared to find you like this. The leggings you had worn, only to be comfortable while you worked, were stretched tight across your round ass and Marshall wondered if you were swaying your hips like that intentionally, or if it was just a coincidence as you tried to clean. The sight caused his jeans to feel a bit tighter, caused his heart to race just a little faster. His eyes were ripped away from your bottom when another f-bomb fell from your lips. A chuckle fell from his lips and he brought a hand up to his jaw, stroking the growing beard that decorated his chin. He hadnât meant to just stare, but he was.
The sudden noise startled you, Marshall's footsteps having been oddly quiet, causing you to gasp and jerk up, hitting your head on the top of the oven. You heard Marshall's breath catch in the back of his throat and before you could fully crawl back out of the oven and rub the top of your head, he was already at your side, one arm wrapping around your waist and the other gently applying a bit of pressure to your skull.Â
"Didn't mean to scare you," he frowned, his shoulders slouching as he pulled you up to your feet, his hand still resting on your lower back. His hand felt like a weight, yet still sent a little shiver up your spine as you moved to stand just a bit closer to him, your body gently pressing up against his.Â
"You didn't... I mean... it's okay," you laughed, your face blushing a bright pink, worried you might've embarrassed yourself.Â
"What are you doing, by the way?" Marshall's mouth set into a straight line, his brow pulling down as he looked around the kitchen. It hadn't gone over his head that she'd cleaned his whole house, but he hadn't quite understood why. Things tended to go right over his head and even now as you pressed your body against his, any attempt to feel his touch, even more, he seemed oblivious.Â
"I just..." You weren't trying to admit that you just wanted to help him, not wanting to get into the conversation about how you did feel bad for him. Being alone all the time, with nothing but his thoughts and his work and occasionally getting to see his daughter. But you knew how that would sound and you didn't want him thinking he was just a charity case. Every time you stare at Marshall you realize you forget to breathe and you spend most of your time away from him wondering how he's doing, but you also didn't even know where to begin with explaining any of that to him. "Just because," you decided to leave it at that.Â
Something must have clicked in Marshall's mind because while you stood there, dumbfounded, trying to come up with an answer, Marshall's focus had been fixated on your lips. His arm was still wrapped around your waist, holding you close to him and he was so muscular, so large you thought there was nothing more that you could do besides stand there and be his prisoner.Â
"Well, it was a nice view."Â
His blue eyes fell to yours and without speaking, Marshall backed you up against the kitchen wall. His hand that had been applying pressure to where you smacked your head, now cradled your neck and his body was flush up against yours. You weren't sure what Marshall was feeling, but for you, a mix of anxiety and nervousness filled the room and you clung on to every second as you stared up at him, terrified before he leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to your lips.Â
"Guess you deserve some sort of thanks," Marshall breathed as he pulled away, your eyes falling to watch his tongue gently graze along his bottom lip.Â
"Yes, I think I do."
