Checking In
Welcome to the Hotel du Inventeurs, bienvenue, etc. How are you doing? What are you up to? Too bad, we're separated by time, distance, and this heavy oaken door. What do you mean, you can't find your keys? Don't worry about that. And you'll see the other guests, I'm sure. Everyone's so, so eager to meet you. They're just on the other side.
Also, we're looking to get a group together to draft Duskmourn later. Yeah, Stacey picked up a box, and the common room can sit eight, and the cafe's open until, like, eleven! Can you believe it? I really like the design of rooms, and man, Fabien really knocked me out with a cool Grixis Eerie control deck the other day. Anyway. Normal hotel, normal rooms, normal contest framing device. I think you know where this is going.
DESIGN A ROOM.
Wowzers. Who could've seen that coming?
Anyway, Rooms are a new enchantment type from Duskmourn, in case you've been living under a rock for the last month and a half. HERE is a link to all the printed rooms. A couple of them are from the draftable set and a couple are from the Commander sets; per usual, you're designing for Standard.
Keep in mind the specific wording of rooms. Some of them will trigger upon unlock, and some have static abilities. Also, as far as I know, MSE doesn't have rooms yet. That's kind of an issue—but for now, we have some placeholders and you can cut/paste/overwrite them around for various room shenanigans!
This one is gonna be a bit easier to do on desktop, honestly, but if you're working with an online client, I recommend using one with split cards and just not filling out the other stuff.
Don't worry about reminder text, but don't forget proper room wording too! They care about unlocking, not entering. You can have static abilities and whatnot, but of course balance is key.
And also: I'm curious about what horror rooms people might be interested in making that weren't featured in Duskmourn, of course, but what about rooms on other planes? I'm even more curious about that. As usual, though, this one isn't a strict requirement. I highly recommend running your cards be someone who might not be as familiar or invested with your wilder ideas for more specific feedback.
There we have it. Do disturb! @abelzumi
