Why is Cardcaptor Sakura ANYTHING so hard to find? There are hardly any fics on AO3, searching google for pics is like pulling teeth (especially if you’re looking for Touya/Yukito content), and I feel like the fans of the old 90s anime and manga are sleeping on the fact that THERE IS CURRENTLY A SEQUEL BEING PRODUCED. CLEAR CARD.

Like. Cardcaptor Sakura was an early magical girl series. It’s not THE magical girl series like Sailor Moon, but it’s pretty damn close, and like Sailor Moon it also got a terrible English dub that cut out all the Japanese, reordered a bunch of episodes, and erased all the gay.

And there is So Much Gay in Cardcaptor Sakura. Syaoran has a crush on Yukito (Jfc who doesn’t, for real) for half the series, Tomoyo has a crush on Sakura, Tomoyo’s mom was in love with Sakura’s mom, and Touya and Yukito were one of the ONLY confirmed gay couples not just in the series but on tv and in manga as a whole in the 90s. Like, Touya and Yukito were to legitimately some people’s first exposure to male homosexuality and acceptance of it, just like Haruka and Michiru were many people’s first exposure to and acceptance of female homosexuality. In a society where we headcanon the fuck out of literally everything and ship everything and are super quick to label this or that character LGBTQ+ and then fall in love with them, it blows my mind at how overlooked Touya/Yukito (and by extension Cardcaptor Sakura) are.

Guys. Please read or watch Cardcaptor Sakura (and if you prefer a dub, a better one than the crappy Nelvana dub exists). Then read or watch the Clear Card arc. Fall in love with these characters and blast social media like tumblr and whatnot with art and fics and long rambling meta (and boy does CCS have that, considering it crosses over and is intimately connected with not one but two other CLAMP series). I would’ve thought with the debut of Clear Card we’d see a resurgence of CCS fans the way we did Sailor Moon with Crystal and I just... don’t see that?

1. Talk about the first ship you ever had

So I'm SURE there were relationships I was invested in in movies and cartoons I watched as a child (I've always been a sucker for romance, even though there was that period when I didn't want to admit it) but I can't remember anything from very far back;; So it was either Ron and Hermione from Harry Potter or Ichigo and Masaya from Tokyo Mew Mew, whichever I read first.

2. Talk about three of the most important ships throughout your life

GOSH. You can't do this to me. I guess Romione because it was the time in my preteens when I was becoming more aware of... stuff, in general, abs the two cemented my love for friends-to-lovers. Then Ioryuu, because I've never been AS invested in and passionate about a ship before and likely never will. Nothing can compare to that intensity and ngl I miss it;; I miss the genuine hype I felt in my heart that made me interact with people and make things. So many things. I honestly can't think of a third one with such a lasting impact, sorry;;

3. What's your current OTP?

I imagine Souyo scenarios in my head every night before falling sleep and every morning after waking up, this is not a joke not an exaggeration. I still feel a little traitorous saying this on tumblr but their dynamic IS somewhat similar to the way I see Ioryuu so-

4. What's your current NoTP?

I don't think I have one? I have dislikes, some of them strong, but I don't see any of them often enough to be, like, actively angry. I have better uses for my time than willingly exposing myself to stuff I don't like.

5. Do you have any poly ships?

Not generally, juggling two characters is enough work lol. The only poly ships I've ever really actively shipped are Niels, Duncan and Natalie from the web comic Niels And the Gang by humon and Kinatsuen from Boueibu, but neither are actively on my mind much these days.

8. Have you ever shipped yourself with a character?

BOY HAVE I EVER. I've seen someone on tumblr have a side blog for self-shopping and not gonna lie, it's an excellent idea. My late teens were spent reading character x reader fics on Quotev and I started my fic career with the same genre. I don't really know what to do with myself when I DON'T actively ship myself with a character, which is my state of being now that Yosuke surpassed Yoosung as my favorite character;; Ibushi and Yoosung are the biggest ones but man oh boy I have shipped myself with characters from early age and I'm showing no signs of stopping! There's a reason that I main dating sims.

15. Have you ever "shipped at first sight"?

Not for long. I SUCK at forming first impressions. Usually if I start thinking I'll ship something, I end up not being so invested in it after all, and instead shipping something I swore off at first lmao. Which leads us to...

16. Talk about a ship you initially disliked

As a rule of thumb, all of them. I don't understand HOW it keeps happening but somehow almost all the ships I truly care/d about (that I didn't start shipping through osmosis before knowing them in the source material) started out as something I thought I "wouldn't be able to get behind." Gajevy. Shikatema. Sasunaru. Doctor/Rose. Karabita. Atsutodo. Kiribaku. Yoozen. Enatsu. Freaking IORYUU. EVEN SOUYO. IT'S BEEN YEARS I REALLY SHOULD KNOW THE PATTERN BY NOW

17. Talk about a pairing you've stopped shipping romantically

Like, I started to think they're better as friends after all? I guess NaLi. Then again, I mostly only shipped them out of spite in the first place because I wanted a counter for N/a//Lu, which I never liked at all;;

20. Talk about a ship you feel alone in shipping

Now this time I can say for sure that there isn't one. I can't come up with ships myself and stay on board if there isn't content for it, canon or otherwise;; It's not a conscious decision or anything, it's just how my mind works. I get attached to stuff by exposure, whether from fans or the source material, and if the source material has enough content for two characters for me to pick up on and become interested, it's guaranteed to be enough to become a somewhat popular ship.

21. Is there a ship you just don't get, but have nothing against?

Actually... That's the extent I go to with notp'ing these days. I'm passionate about the right to ship whatever you want so by proxy I can't have anything "against" a ship, even if the sheer thought of it existing makes me nauseous. And I know how to think from points of view other than my own, so I can usually see the appeal, even if it appeals to me personally less than eating dog shit while walking barefoot on rusty nails that are also on fire.

That said, the only ships I have on my Tumblr blacklist are Yoo//ra/n and Suza//lu/lu because they're both popular ships for characters whose tags I am/was following and therefore get suggested a lot even if I want following anyone who ships then. Oh, and all B/LMa//tsu ships! I generally can't feel good about incestuous ships, but can and will fight for their shippers' right to do as they please as long as they stay respectful. (never saw blmatsus who weren't respectful. saw a plethora of anti-blmatsus who were absolute demons. actually the reason i moved away from the last remnants of my anti mindset was that i didn't want to be associated with THOSE anti-blmatsus, when the shippers they wanted dead were all such sweet people. food for thought.)

All of them?? Lmao I don't understand this question, isn't shipping all about liking the chemistry between characters? Or the potential for it I guess, in which case the chemistry is whatever you want it to be, which is great B) I'm sorry I keep accidentally dodging questions I'm bad at choosing examples from a long, unordered list

23. Which of your ships deserve better writing?

Hhhhhhh I shipped Jerza for years and was still unsatisfied with their ending, Jellal didn't get to heal enough and we didn't really see them working through their past in an effective way and getting comfortable around each other. It's like they were supposed to be friends to enemies to lovers but the last part didnt really develop and their relationship stagnated at the stage were they were both just permanently awkward out of regret, and couldn't bring themselves out of it even though everything was forgiven forever ago. Or I've forgotten a lot of stuff that happened. Very likely. Is your a case of bad writing or good writing not working out the way I wanted it to? You're asking the wrong person.

25. Have you ever shipped a pairing before you even started watching the show/movie simply because of gifs/graphics or similar?

EYUP. Harumichi was my otp for like a whole year before I saw a single episode with them lol. It was crazy, but it was REAL. I've also went into shows already paying attention to things I knew my friends/people I follow shipped, kind of hoping I'd get into it.

26. Have you noticed a pattern in your shipping? Is there a romantic dynamic I'm writing these questions down from screenshots and I cropped the rest of this one out by accident rip

Eeeh I go for the obvious. Best friend pairs, obvious pining, some rivalry with sexual tension, though I don't really know what to do with those. Then there's the fact that I never see it coming sick Persona 5 reference bro and start shipping the couple I thought "should just be friends" at first. This is more about my relationship to the ships than their dynamic but it's very constant...

27. Is there a ship you've shipped for most of your life?

Hmmm well I got into HP and started shipping Romione sometime in mid elementary school so it's definitely been more than half my lifetime since, but I don't really know if I "ship it" anymore. I didn't start disliking them or anything but for me, "shipping" is an active intrest in a fictional relationship, so if it reaches the stage where I like it, in theory, but I don't have the feels, it doesn't really count. That's why I can say I like ships without shipping them. It's gotta be actively on my brain, man.

31. Talk about one of your favorite headcanons for a ship you love

I haven't mentioned Kannao once, which is criminal. So here's some of what I imagine their future to be like :D I've been getting new Persona followers recently so here's something for you to unfollow me over lmao

So first of all I ignore the canon that Naoto goes back to the city for her detective work after her first year of high school, shhh she stays in Inaba, only taking the occasional jobs. She and Kanji start dating during the spring break before their second year and get more comfortable with each other, so that the next summer they're still cute and very much themselves (which means somewhat reserved) but not as awkward anymore :) I haven't thought about what happens after they graduate but they get married in their early 20s and have a son <3 (Chie and Yukiko adopted their daughter only slightly earlier. They may or may not have had a bit of a competition going on) ((yes Souyo are very much together but if they end up having children I haven't thought about it it's later))

Kanji manages the textile shop and Naoto helps when she's free from detective stuff. They live in Inaba but Naoto is away quite often for her gigs;; She takes up a few jobs less when Kouta is little though so he wouldn't feel less close to his Mom than his Dad.

Both Kanji and Naoto suffered from unfair expectations growing up, so they try their best to make up for it with Kouta's upbringing. They want him to feel comfortable being himself and free to express himself the way he wants; they make sure he knows he'll always be loved and supported, and to never be ashamed of who he is. As a child it doesn't even occur to him that many social norms and social expectations exist, because Naoto and Kanji pretty much let him do whatever as long as he isn't hurting himself or anyone else. They might go a little overboard though, giving into Kouta's whims without much consideration at all. The Amagi Aunties enforce rules and keep kids grounded in reality much better lmao

40. If you could change one thing about your otp, what would that be?

HMNGHNMHGNMGH I WAMT YOSUKE'S INTERNALIZED BULLSHIT ACKNOWLEDGED!! It's there AtlUS!! Stop pretending oh my god.... I love the Dancing All Night story mode (so far. I am by no means done); Yosuke gets cool moments and Yu's internal monologue really shows how much he appreciates him. The dynamic is so much better than with a silent protagonist, and thank god they didn't go with the tactless anime Yu (as fun as he is). I know there are a bunch of nods to the cut romance across spinoffs but mannnn... I wish they were more serious about it. At this point it's not even that far-fetched to think Yosuke has feelings for Yu that he may or may not be aware of, and I know that Yu as the player character can't be too tied down to one option in canon, but still... Even the clown gets tired of jokes at some point. One can dream.

this is a post that’s been on my mind ALL FREAKING DAY. 

i obviously have A LOT of thoughts and feels on usagi and her various relationships with her senshi so i wanted to condense (lol) and compile them into one general post. because i can. 

so here we go.

 Usagi & Ami: this relationship is really special because it was first, usagi’s first comrade as a senshi, and ami’s first real friend. ami is so sweet and quiet and good natured, i feel like they never ever everrrr fight. ami will be quick to put usagi in her place when it comes to things like studies (and in the future, she will be the voice of reason when usagi wants to skip out on her royal duties.) but she will ALWAYS have a soft spot for her. ami can really never be mad at her, no matter what she does or says. they tease each other (esp usagi to ami) and ami will always be there to help usagi along the way, no matter what the situation is. 

Usagi & Rei: these girls together... oh man. these two together are a beautiful friendship that is so many things: its passionate, it’s loving, its a storm. Rei will never let usagi hear the end of something when she’s wrong & most of the time she’s never gonna let her get away with stupid stuff. but sometimes, like she is with minako, rei can’t help but to let her think she is. There’s no one in the world Rei loves more, aside from Minako, but even she falls below Usagi. Rei would die for Usagi at any given moment. They might fight sometimes but they have a bond that is tender and loving and strong. Rei will always put her in her place & keep her grounded. I also firmly believe that Mars was the one Princess Serenity was the closest to during the silver millennium. That bond transcends time and death and brings us to the present, where these two girls were brought back together. usagi would NEVER pick favorites and would NEVER say one of the girls was her best friend, but rei is definitely near the top of her list, if she had one that was. 

Usagi & Makoto: Mako-chan is the motherly type & this is how I see their relationship- Mako-chan is the one to ensure Usagi is NEVER hungry, she’s always warm/dry/comfortable/whatever. Mako is the one Usagi cries to when she’s upset by Rei or Mamoru because Mako always sides with her and pats her on the head and says she’s right. Mako will NEVER SAY NO! Not ever!! Unless it’s in battle and Usagi is trying to be the hero, Mako wont let her put herself into harm necessarily. Mako is the one who when Usagi absently says she’s hungry for something, she bakes it for her. She’s the one that when Usagi wistfully wishes for a pretty dress in a store window, she goes to the store to buy the fabric and sews her one that’s even better than the original.  Mako does everything in her power to ensure Usagi is 10000% happy. 

Usagi & Minako: first of all, these two bang. i’m sorry, i cant explain it, but these two 100000000% hook up. their relationship is not necessarily deeper than friendship, because usagi obviously is in love with mamoru and i’m a hardcore reinako shipper, but i just see these two together AT SOME POINT. In all honesty, i really can see the two of them bringing rei into things too. it happens more than once, maybe a few times a year. anyways. THESE TWO GIRLSSSSS man oh man. i feel like i could even argue they’re closer than usagi & rei are. they understand one another far beyond comrades, far beyond princess and protector. around usagi, minako can be her true self- silly and loving, a natural prankster. together they play pranks on anyone they can (looking at you, rei) they’re regulars at the local karaoke bar, and they drag the others shopping as often as they can. as adults, they’re out on the town together, dressed to the nines and giggling behind their hands every time a boy wants to dance with them. they love to drink and have a good time together. like rei, minako would die for usagi. in truth, she’d die for any one of her friends, but usagi... she’d do anything for usagi, and usagi would do anything for her. their bond is strong and true and wow do i love these two girls so fucking much.

Usagi & Haruka: unless you’re new to my blog, you know i have ALL THE HARUSA FEELS. i love the bond these two share. usagi is the one who makes haruka question EVERYTHING. Usagi is everything to haruka, nothing is more important than her well being. they understand each other- especially usagi. she knows the truth in haruka’s heart, even if haruka always doesnt. their bond is different because their past selves never knew one another- but haruka’s desire to protect her princess transcended time to now, where its stronger than ever before because now she KNOWS her. she loves to see usagi smile & will take her out for spins in her nice cars & lets be real, spoils the shit out of her. if usagi wants it, haruka gets it for her. i can see them actually hooking up as well (polyamorous usagi, ftw) but not nearly as often as usagi and minako do. maybe once. i firmly ship harumichi, obviously, and i cant even say they HOOK UP so much as once in a while they might share a kiss. hook up is the wrong phrase, for sure, i dont think they ever go all the way. but i can see them going out on many “dates’ and share a few kisses down the road. after a certain point, those stop though, and their adult relationship is a bit more mature. when usagi is crowned queen, haruka constantly drops to a knee before her and usagi always tries to get her to stop, but she never will. 

Usagi & Michiru: Michiru is Usagi’s idol, her inspiration to be a real lady someday. Usagi follows Michiru around like a puppy- to fancy parties and classical concerts and plays galore. Michiru lives a lavish lifestyle and Usagi loves being a part of that. She likes to rub elbows with the elite and through Michiru she gets to meet various famous people. michiru is also her favorite person to shop with- michiru has expensive but amazing taste and always helps usagi piece together fantastic outfits. as adults, usagi always wants michiru to plan everything for her: birthdays, parties, ect. as queen, usagi puts michiru in charge of the royal planning too. 

Usagi & Setsuna: these two aren’t as close as usagi is with the rest of the senshi- they have a relationship yes, but it doesn’t go far beyond princess and protector. setsuna cares for usagi obviously, but their relationship just isn’t the same as it is with all of the other girls. however, usagi does love to shop with setsuna because her style is trendy and chic. it’s when usagi is pregnant with chibiusa that their relationship deepens- it is then that setsuna shares stories with usagi of her past, of her mother queen serenity. when chibiusa is born, they become all the closer, spending hours together in the nursery, fawning over the princess they loved so much. 

Usagi & Hotaru: Usagi cares soooo much for hotaru- she always has, since before they ever even knew she was saturn. usagi cares for her like she might a sweet, younger sister. Usagi would take her and chibiusa out to do various things- amusement parks, shopping, ect. she helps remind hotaru to laugh and smile, to not take life quite so seriously. once she’s reborn, her seriousness is not as pronounced as it was before, but she still had her moments. usagi was one of the only people who could always immediately cheer her up, no matter how badly she felt inside. and when it was time for chibiusa to become a senshi in her own right, with her own team, it’s saturn that she instructs to lead her team, like venus had once done for hers. she puts her daughter’s life into hotaru’s hands because she knows she will always protect her, just as her senshi had always protected her.

001 - HaruMichi and 002- Usagi

This got long, haha. Who could possibly have guessed I’d have a lot of feelings about Sailor Moon? I am sure you are all ASTONISHED.

when I started shipping it if I did: 

I was like 10 or 11? S hadn’t aired in the US yet. My friend who had short blond hair had printed a picture of Sailor Uranus from some geocities site. She showed it to me saying “look! she looks just like me!” (the resemblance was very uncanny to baby me). I asked who it was; she explained it was Sailor Uranus, who was in episodes that existed only in Japan. 

She lowered her voice to a conspiratorial whisper and said, “She’s a lesbian”. Blessed sheltered Mormon baby that I was, I was like “oooooh. . . . what’s a lesbian?”

She took out a printed picture of Sailor Neptune and explained they were both girls and in love, like in love love, like boys and girls, but both girls. And I was like, “You can do that?! Can you do that? OmG. Oh wow, oh wow. That’s so coool.”

And basically shipped them immediately.

my thoughts: 

GOD I LOVE THESE PRETENTIOUS DORKS. They love each other so much??? They are so unapologetic about it. 

Their relationship is a bit different between the manga and the 90s anime, but I love both versions. I love manga genderfluid Haruka, wearing a crop top one day and full on drag the next. I love butch 90s anime Haruka. I love sly fucking Michiru, who is a bit more giggly in the manga, a bit more aloof in the anime, A COMPLETE TROLL IN BOTH. 

I love their confidence. They are awesome, and everyone immediately falls in love with it, and they simultaneously manage to act like they know it and have no doubts that anyone would just love them on sight, while also acting like they’re completely indifferent and possibly even unaware, because they have, you know, important things to do in their helicopters or whatever.

What makes me happy about them: 

They get to be happy together! They didn’t in the Silver Millenium, and that doesn’t get played up the way the Serenity/Endymion romance is, but they were also on DIFFERENT PLANETS, with responsibilities that meant they shouldn’t see each other, and reborn in a world where they could be together all the time and always hold each other and see the other person right there in the flesh in front of them and I’m not crying you’re crying

AND THEN THEY GET TO ADOPT A BABY AND BE PARENTS?? And it’s so?? GOOD? THEY LIVE A HAPPY DOMESTIC LIFE??

What makes me sad about them: 

They were cut from the SuperS anime. >:[  also Michiru is probably the senshi I have the hardest time relating to, not because she’s not a fully realized character, but because her personality, life, and problems, are all so wildly different from my own. 

things done in fanfic that annoys me: 

Making Michiru more mean, judgmental, catty, etc than she actually is in canon. Michiru may be graceful, aloof, wealthy, world famous, and have incredibly high-class education and tastes, but she’s actually incredibly accommodating and kind towards Usagi in both the anime and manga. She seems more confused (or amused) when people don’t get her references to famous painters or classical literature than judgmental. Michiru actually seems fantastically patient, and is probably more patient than Haruka. She’s a troll with a wry sense of humor, but she’s not malicious, and we don’t get any indication she thinks she’s better than anyone else. And so the portrait of her as this Mean Girl really just seems out of left field to me. 

things I look for in fanfic: 

god with these two it’s all domesticity and fluff. They get introduced as the Dark Brooding ones with a Morally Damning Obligation and so like, seriously, any time they can be like, snuggling and teasing each other I love. 

There’s a post going around of a note someone got under their apartment door from a neighbor who heard them practicing the piano, and they thought it would be asking them to quiet down, but instead it’s a request for a certain composition. A non-senshi AU of that seems like the Perfect! Thing! for them. 

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: 

Usagi. Especially with Haruka. Haruka/Usagi is a favourite of mine. But let’s be honest: all the senshi are married to Usagi. 

They are also both already married to Setsuna as well, so that’s fine. 

Michiru and Minako wouldn’t by in a relationship but they might have a really really great one night stand some time. 

My happily ever after for them: 

Getting to live in Crystal Tokyo, with each other and their princess. Peace.

I mean the obvious answer would be Haruka big spoon, Michiru little spoon, but the truth is Haruka loves being cuddled, so they trade.

How I feel about this character: 

I cry. I jsut. sd;akd USAGI. 

She is so GOOD. And she’s so PURE. And she’s so flaky and she feels all her emotions so intensely. If she’s hungry she eats, if she’s tired she sleeps, if she’s stressed she finds something fun to do, if she’s infatuated she follows the cute girl off the bus and chats her up and she blushes behind her cat and she drools over strangers lunchboxes 

and if she loves the world she saves it, and if she wants to save everyone without sacrificing a single life, she does

and I cry and cry and cry I love her so much

All the people I ship romantically with this character: 

All the people. All of them.

Except Prince Diamond. That’s gross. 

Okay probably not actually all of them, but all the senshi that aren’t Chibs for sure, Mamoru OBVS, and honestly like a solid third of the villains... so ...??

Can her relationship with her future daughter be a non-romantic OTP? Cause I love them and they make me cry.

My unpopular opinion about this character: 

UM. So much has been said about Usagi that it’s hard to have an opinion about her that isn’t popular somewhere. That time I quizzed people on what house she’d be in showed that I’m apparently in the minority in thinking she’s Gryffindor, not Hufflepuff. I also think she’s both smarter and sadder than some characterizations of her, but that’s me. 

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon:

Only one??

I would have loved to see proper conversations/reveals with her family and Naru. We got hints, but nothing explicit, and I feel like after a certain point they deserved to know. 

my OTP: Usagi/Mamoru. 

my cross over ship:

IDK if I have any, honestly. 

My biggest Sailor Moon Universe crossover ship is Sailor Pluto/The Doctor. It feels like Usagi already has so many people to love, I don’t need to actively search for crossovers for her. 

I mean, she loves a lot of people. I can totally see it working with a million different crossovers. I just don’t actively champion or even privately linger on any of them.

a headcanon fact:

90s anime only: She’s afraid of lightning/thunder because of something that happened during the Silver Millenium. Either it gives her past-life PTSD of the noise and light of the war, or something else happened during a lightning storm while she was visiting Earth that was truly jarring.

Usagi is really good at DDR. One time at the arcade when she finishes a song after really having been in the flow, she does an involuntary Sailor Moon Pose to finish, and the other girls are like “USAGI are you actively trying to TELL people your identity???”
