Doraemon Vol. 9 from The Complete Works of Fujiko F. Fujio
The stories in this one were published in 1976–1982. There are many chapters in this volume that I consider iconic; it was difficult to narrow them down! Here's the list I came up with in the end:
"ウルトラよろい" ("Ultra Armor", 1977): As a spoof on "The Emperor's New Clothes", Doraemon "gives" Nobita a suit of armor that he claims cannot be seen or used by idiots, but Nobita misses the joke and goes outside to test his new "armor".
"百苦タイマー" ("Hundred-trial Timer", 1978): Nobita accidentally activates the Hundred-trial Timer, which will force him to endure 100 painful trials in 100 minutes, each worse than the last. The device is basically impossible to stop once it is turned on, and the results are potentially fatal. In Nobita's case, this leads to, among other things, Shizuka chasing him down while wielding a knife!
"超大作特撮映画「宇宙大魔神」" ("The Blockbuster Special Effects Movie, Space Demon", 1979): Nobita and his friends film a sci-fi movie together, but don't want Gian to be involved. When Gian wants in, they have to trick him into playing the only remaining role: the main villain. (I think this is one of the funniest stories I've read in the Doraemon manga.)
"ガンファイターのび太" ("Nobita the Gunslinger", 1980): Nobita travels back to the Wild West, thinking he'll have a better chance of making a name for himself there with his sharpshooting skills.
"宝星" ("Treasure Planet", 1980): To help Nobita achieve his dream of finding lost treasure, Doraemon sends three treasure-seeking rockets out to space.
"な、なんと!! のび太が百点とった!!" ("What?! Nobita Got Full Marks!!", 1981): Nobita gets full marks on a test for once, but nobody believes him. To lift his spirits, Doraemon brings out a propaganda machine that makes everyone not only believe in Nobita's test score, but treat it as a big deal.
"昔はよかった" ("It was Better in the Past", 1981): Nobita travels to the past, hoping that life would be easier in a time before mandatory schooling existed.
"のび太の結婚前夜" ("The Night Before Nobita's Wedding", 1981): Doraemon and Nobita travel to see Nobita's future wedding, but Doraemon accidentally brings them to the day before instead. They use the opportunity to see how adult Nobita and Shizuka are preparing for the big day.
"神まロボットに愛の手を!" ("Reaching Out with Love to the God Robot!", 1981): Nobita wonders whether there's still good in the world, so Doraemon takes out a robot that pretends to be a starving old man. It will grant three wishes to whoever chooses to help it.

Doraemon, and why I always wanted my own cat-shaped robot
Growing up I used to watch lots of anime on TV (thank you Chilevision), and one of my favorite series at the time was Doraemon, an anime about the adventures of a lazy and dumb kid named Nobita and his robotic friend from the future: Doraemon, a cat-shaped robot whose had a magical pocket on which he could find any sort of gadgets to help Nobita to make his life easier. A funny detail is that Doraemon was sent by Nobita’s own grandson on a time machine, in order to help him improve his life, building at the same time a better future for his descendants.
When I tell you Doraemon’s mission was to help improve Nobita’s life at all costs, I really mean it: Was Nobita having a hard time studying for his exams? Well, Doraemon just had to pull the “Memory Bread”, which is literally a piece of bread that absorbs knowledge, transferring it to whoever eats it. Did Nobita have to get somewhere fast? No problem, Doraemon just had to pull the “Take-copter” (my personal favorite), a little yellow hat that emulates the blades of a helicopter, allowing its wearer to fly through the skies. However, despite all the help and efforts done by his new futuristic friend, Nobita couldn’t help himself to be less of a lazy kid, so most of the times things didn’t go as expected.
As you could see, this robotic cat had all sorts of devices that would make anyone’s life a lot easier and fun. Everytime I was in a hurry to get to school I used to wish I had my own helicopter-hat, but I had to conform with being driven by my mom. It wasn’t as fun, but I really had no choice. Now, I’m 24 years old and I still haven’t lost hope on the idea that, someday, I’ll open my desk drawer and a cute round robot cat will jump from it to solve all my problems of adult life.

Dear Doraemon, This letter is long overdue and I sincerely hope you're still somewhere around because I'm afraid my letter may not reach you otherwise (the space-time problem, you see). They say love doesn't come in any shape or size but mine did. Ever since I could watch television, I've loved you. All my childhood memories include a certain short, round and blue Cat-robot from the Future. And trust me when I say that I still remember your song and I often hum that tune under my breath. It's a wee bit unfair that Nobita had you all to himself while the rest of us had to do the whole childhood thing without a fantastic cat-robot by our sides. But I gotta be honest. Watching you help Nobita when he inevitably ran into some trouble inspired us to get through whatever bugged us back then. But even to this day, we can't get over how easily you used to pull out one Gadget after another when Nobita was in a pickle. That four dimensional pocket of yours can beat any wish granting genie on any given day. Everytime you, Nobita and Shizuka went flying over the city wearing the Take-Copter, so did we. That little headgear allowed us to stretch our wings and fly. Everytime we wanted to escape a boring classroom, didn't we all wish we could access the pink Anywhere Door? And don't get me started on the Time Machine. Oh, the things we could've done using that Gadget! But it doesn't stop there. As we all know, Gian and Suneo were extremely tiresome to say the least and you, Doraemon, you beautiful blue cat-robot, gave Nobita the courage to fight his bullies. You held our hands and taught us how to face our fears. Why, you even played Cupid as you tried to bring Nobita and Shizuka together! You have always been the best friend anyone could ever ask for. You taught us patience, forgiveness, love and friendship. Your soft, sweet voice still rings in our ears. And even though you weren't physically present, you did rescue us more times than we can count. Love, Another troublemaker. P.S. I shall make you Dora Cakes if you ever wish to drop by!
