I think Jin had a good fashion sense even before the games. his dad was the mayor of District One so I think he's always had to dress "presentable". I don't see him as a fashionista, but he does care about brands. if he was in our modern universe, he'd be the type to find Gucci very tacky and obnoxious but love Hermes and Ralph Lauren. classy and understated. honestly very "old money, country club" vibes. jin is a nepo baby lol

there are two jimins - the one at the capitol and the one at district four. when he's in the capitol, he wears whatever his designer team arranges for him. he has lots of sponsors, and many are fashion brands so he's obligated to wear clothes or accessories from those brands. his team likes to market him as very chic and clean, lots of suits with the undershirt open to show his chest. however, when he's at home or just being himself, i think he's very in touch with his ocean roots. i see him in a "surfer boy" aesthetic, pearls, seashells, and free-flowing tops. in my universe, District Four is like a Florida or tropical place- so it's always sunny and hot.

sweater vests. turtle necks. slacks. this is it. mainly in black, sometimes blue. very dark academia. does not really understand fashion and just wants to look as smart as he is. feel like he'd also be one of the victors who fired his designer team right away because he didn't get the point and hated being treated like a doll. sometimes he wants to try out diff styles but ultimately I see him being a creature of habit and being like "nah"

poor boy just wants to be cozy and warm. I think I had his games take place in the Arctic? so I think he'd be like really hypersensitive to the cold now. he feels one chill and he'll want to die. he would love oversized sweaters and cardigans. I can see him wearing lots of neutral colors too, browns and creams with hints of green here and there. Very 'coffee shop boyfriend' vibes. also think he's such older bro that he'd carry a lil fanny pack or bag all the time, he carries little snacks and stuff just in case his siblings ever need anything

tough one. hoodies, loose fitting and oversized. likes beanies too. I think he has bad blood circulation and as a kid didn't get great access to food, so he's prob anemic and smaller than his Victor counterparts. a lil insecure about it so he covers it up with baggy clothes. another one that prefers darker colors like grey and black. capitol ppl are known for their colorful clothes since they can afford them, and yoongi isn't tryna associate with that.

i never made a victors revenge jk since i didn't know if i was just going to make it qq jk when he won the games lol. either way, i'm sticking with district two for him. so def a career and def a lil cray. i think he'd enjoy looking as intimidating as possible, fully leaning into the 'bloody thirsty career' reputation he has. Notes on Online Aesthetics

What makes me happy, and what makes me me? It’s something I think about a lot. I’m a daughter of the internet age, born in 1998, raised on online subculture ‘aesthetics’ and monitored twenty-four hours a day by corporations who know my tastes better than I do. I’m not original, but neither is anyone else.

‘Aesthetics’ have become such a strange kind of tribal signifier; a sort of self-imposed limitation on expression, manufactured completely by advertising execs and corporations. “Gamer girl”, “clean girl”, “Instagram baddie”, “booktok”, “Tumblr girl”, “dark academia”, “soft grunge”, “indie”, “pilates princess”, “cottage core”, etc. What do they all have in common? They make someone, somewhere, a lot of money, and they place boundaries on how we express ourselves. 

Isn’t it interesting how we ‘brand’ ourselves this way? We even call it that. (i.e.,“That’s so on brand for me.”) Capitalism has completely taken over how we present ourselves, and it has taken over our language. It demands that we place ourselves into one of these archetypes, or at least that we present ourselves as one. Why? So we can continue purchasing things that fit the look and lifestyle of that archetype. 

As Guy Debord wrote in Society of the Spectacle, “Passive identification with the spectacle supplants genuine activity…The spectacle is not a collection of images, rather, it is a social relation among people mediated by images.” 

That was written in 1967, before capitalist interests had fully coopted subculture movements like hippies, punks, or goths. Much later in 2009, in the book Capitalist Realism, Mark Fisher describes how capitalist interests eat radical subcultures, take away any ideological component that makes them radical, and dwindles them down to their marketable “aesthetic.” Think, punk going from an anarchist community to a clothing style one can purchase at Hot Topic. ‘Punk’ is not thought of as a political identity marker; it’s a clothing style. 

I also think of drag as possibly the newest version, and maybe the last version, of this capitalist appropriation. That’s another piece of writing in of itself though, but I’ll leave this thought with the wise words of Jasmine Masters, “RuPaul’s Drag Race done fucked up drag.” 

Internet aesthetics have taken this to a new level. Now, these subcultures are no longer just coopted from once radical movements. These ‘subcultures’ are now created by and for capitalist interests. They are created by influencers, in partnerships with companies, to sell products. 

In Capitalist Realism, Mark Fisher asks the question, “What happens to a society, to an upcoming generation, when there is no new?” That is to say, when all of the subcultures that were created to rebel against capitalist interests are coopted by capitalists, and used to benefit those at the top, and the new generation have no ‘new’ thing to create because it’s all been done before and appropriated by capitalists…. what happens? Subcultures are a natural, artistic, peaceful way for younger people to release their building frustrations. Without that outlet, or space, free from capitalist control…. what happens? 

I don’t know the answer to this, but I do know I’m not the only one thinking about it. I think about the song Strange by the BTS rappers Min Yoongi and Kim Namjoon, when Namjoon asks the questions, “You think you got taste?/Well, baby, how do you know?/I mean, for God’s sake/Everything’s under control.” 

I really love this line. This questioning of, “You think your tastes, your thoughts, your style is your own? How can that be, when we’re all influenced by this over saturated, capitalist hell scape?” The rest of Namjoon’s verse goes into more detail, in Korean lyrics, discussing the influence of social media and he even explicitly states, “Our taste is controlled by the capital.” Safe to say, this is one of my favorite songs and one I think about quite often. 

I think it’s a song reflective of Guy Debord in 1967’s Society of the Spectacle, or Mark Fisher’s Capitalist Realism. Or, the 1990s tv show Daria, when Daria states, “Edgy occurs when middle-brow, middle-aged profiteers are looking to suck the energy, not to mention spending money, out of the ‘youth culture.’ So they come up with this fake concept of seeming to be dangerous, when every move they make is the result of market research and a corporate master plan.” 

Swap ‘edgy’ or ‘dangerous’ with any adjective you’d like for any online ‘aesthetic’ we have today, and it remains true. What’s left for me, personally, is a constant questioning of my sense of self. How do I know what I genuinely like, and what I connect to, in an environment like this? Who’s to say? Like usual, when I’m connecting dots, I’m left with more uncertainty. I guess the best I can do is just to like whatever I like, and be mindful or more critical of why I like that thing.

2023 fashion predictions!!!!!

(Note: I do not have a fashion degree. But i'm usually ahead of the curb w these things.) 

We are going to continue to see this super tumblr-grunge “rockstar’s gf” aesthetic throughout the rest of december with a touch of “city girl/lana del rey” and “winter y2k” vibe. (suede, mary janes, black tights / white fluffy knee-high boots, cropped puffer jackets, hello kitty..) I could see this morphing into a rus-core (weird ass name but im not sure what else 2 call it IM SO SORRY.) brutalist vibe- black monochromatic fits, big boots, cyber vibes mixed with a distinctly “vintage” vibe. But the 80’s are more “in” than ever, so it wouldn’t shock me if we leaned more towards an 80s-90s grunge/mall goth look either. 

As winter comes to an end, the Tumble Girl (™) has it’s chance to absolutely BLOW UP. I could see us reverting right back to 2014 tumblr with maybe hints of 2020 cottage core during spring. (I think a nostalgia for 2020 is going to happen sometime in the future, where people start to miss the creative freedom 2020 gave us and we bring back those fashion trends in full-force- and though I can’t guarantee it will happen at the start of 2023, I definitely believe it will happen in the next year or two) 

During the end of spring/start of summer, there's going to be a new “aesthetic” with maximalism/cyber y2k/manic-pixie-dream-girl vibes. Big, chunky plastic/resin jewelry, lots of silver (eye shadow, boots, skirts), chunky boots/shoes, fun hairstyles with lots of colorful hair clips/beads, big futuristic sunglasses, sportswear inspired jackets/tops. Sort of like a cyber-y2k revival of the retro futurist aesthetic in the 60s. 

If you want fit ideas for any of the upcoming eras lmk I can put a pinterest board 2gether ! dont take this as gods word pls- im probably right but dont place ur bets on it. Also, following trends isnt important- do what you want. I just thought this could b interesting :P

If it's any sort of comfort, I think the person trying to compliment your art style just didn't know how to go about it and used aesthetics to make sense of it. I personally don't your art as being "grunge" or "cottage core". It's very soft, thoughtful, understated in a way that I'm drawn to. Soft in the line work, the color choices, and even the way the stylization of characters. I think this gives the work that you do a comforting quality to it! It feels welcoming even :)

Critical Analysis on Campaign: Zara Women’s Studio Spring 2022

Zara is a Spanish multi-national retail clothing chain. They specialize in fast fashion, and they sell clothing, accessories, shoes, beauty products, etc.

For Spring 2022, Zara Studio enlisted Fabien Baron to creative direct this season's imagery and film. For the men's collection, the brand tapped David Sims to shoot actor Kodi Smit-McPhee, while Steven Meisel photographed the women's line on a variety of faces including models Rianne Van Rompae, Jessica Stam and Edie Campbell. The kid's campaign, meanwhile, is flooded with '70s bohemianism and cool '90s grunge. Featuring a global cast of inspiring women, the Zara Studio campaign is a celebration of pan-feminine power and allure that places its wearer first. The collection gracefully combines decorative expression with functional intent. Beauty and romance are key to the season’s thesis: Paisley, lace, ruffle, and chiffon are blended into a whole that is eras long in order to capture modernity. This is a collection women who see no issues in being openly romantic as they also are fiercely self-determined and unapologetic. For this spring campaign, Meisel introduces a new artistic concept including many different models resembling painted figures. The campaign features bold ruffles, lace embroideries, and striped prints. Including jewelry such as pendant necklaces and statement rings that were chosen to stand out among the selection of outfits. Gorgeous, flowy dresses are worn with leather pieces to create a noticeable contrast. The Zara woman are seen wearing studded boots and heels as the type of footwear.

Zara starting diving into more of a goth and cottage core aesthetic for this campaign as many pieces included would typically be geared to people who enjoy more of a goth, old-timey look.

The Zara 2022 spring campaign is very limited on people represented throughout the looks. They have been age and race inclusive but they lack body representation throughout this campaign, they stuck to one body type being represented throughout. I believe they could’ve went though the extra effort to include more body types in their campaign as many different people who have many different body types purchase their clothing and accessories and they may not feel represented or find the content relatable, they could lose sales with this mindset and I think they should make sure to add more body types next campaign.

This campaign has a women and a men’s wear campaign that are completely separate. The male clothing is very masculine, and the women wear is very feminine. They both are completely geared toward femininity and masculinity, I would say neither campaign is completely gender fluid. It upholds gender norms and I don’t think it dares to break them. All the models are fairly-very masculine or feminine when looking at the male and women campaigns. The Zara 2022 studio spring campaign represents body image poorly, although these women in the campaign seem very confident In themselves and seem to be representing themselves in what they are wearing. This can very well come off poorly to those viewing the campaign and potential customers of Zara’s clothing and accessories. Zara sticks to one body type throughout the campaign, there are obviously slight differences between models but it is obviously they all have the same figure, which is on the slimmer side and tall. This may impact the way customers without that body type may think when they go to purchase the clothing, they may second guess their choice and only think it is acceptable to purchase when they look like the model on the Zara spring 2022 campaign. This can be extremely damaging to self image and the thoughts that can go through a consumers mind, I believe they need to be more mindful and try harder to make their loyal customers feel seen and represented in the media they display.

“Steven Meisel and Baron have successfully elevated Zara to the levels of high fashion and above, visually at least. Their presentations never fail to impress me!”, some even went on to say “This is even more exciting than Chanel ads nowadays,” quoted from Covet magazine. From this quote alone I would say the 2022 Zara spring studio campaign did well and received amazing feedback. They say that they have elevated Zara to levels of high fashion and above and go on to say it is even more exciting than Chanel ads. This is a huge compliment as Chanel had huge success, back in the 1980’s as well as now, they have trended for many decades. I would consider that a huge compliment to Zara and the clothing they are putting out into the public eye.

My personal opinion on the campaign is I think it was shot beautifully, the looks along with the minimalistic, clean background to really keep your eyes on the ‘prize’ being the clothing and accessories is phenomenally done. There is a perfect amount of clean, minimalism as well as the added goth aesthetic added to this campaign, regardless if they were trying to reach a new audience they for sure caught the attention of many different people with many aesthetics, although the audience loved the new looks attached to the 2022 spring studio campaign. I truly do believe the models resemble paintings if that was the goal the photographer was trying to reach he did a great job putting it out there, the way the models are posed along with the outfits, makeup and hair it is all a phenomenal job and I believe they got the eye of the audience they were looking for along with the well deserved feedback they craved after putting so much work into the new line for the successful clothing company. Overall, I believe that Zara had a very successful Spring studio 2022 campaign and they received amazing feedback, I do wish that they had more body inclusivity as well as courage to challenge gender norms. I do appreciate the celebration of pan-feminine power and allure, although I do believe more thought and brainstorming could’ve been put in to make this campaign more successful message wise. A lot of the reviews for this campaign are focused on the fashion aspect of the ad instead of the message they were trying to spread. Although that is great for Zara and their sales, they could be done better promoting the campaign for showing the pan-feminine power and allure they stated the campaign was all about. At the end of the day from an outsider’s point of view, Zara’s campaign was good, great even referring to the clothing choices, makeup looks, hairstyles and accessories but I do feel they failed a little on the body positivity, inclusivity and message spreading on this campaign.

He’s drawn to the drama of ancient cathedral ruins and loves testing the acoustics of grand Victorian theatres. Constantly quotes Christopher Marlowe with flippant yet dark jokes about Mephistopheles and Faustian pacts.

Todd: Light Academia. Cosy knit sweaters, museum day trips, and notes app poetry when inspiration strikes. He lives in second-hand bookstores or with cups of tea cradled in his ink-splattered hands. Happiest reading Oscar Wilde or Frank O’Hara with folklore playing softly to the sound of rain outside his window.

Knox: 1980s aesthetic. The John Hughes rat pack are his religion. Constantly on pinterest making outfit moodboards inspired by characters from Saved by the Bell or Pretty in Pink. Tries to force his friends into recreating The Breakfast Club in detention (dancing montage included). He cries over Instagram live when ABBA announce their return.

Meeks: Fandom tumblr. He’d absolutely be in his element writing deep character analysis and johnlock fics with cursed memes and crack vids peppered in. I can just imagine him going down a youtube or wiki rabbit hole on a random topic at midnight but still somehow finding time to study and do well in school.

Pitts: COTTAGE CORE. This man would go absolutely feral over small farm life. He’d be reading up on irrigation techniques, creating a planting schedule, and video calling Meeks about different plants he’s found. Harvest season becomes baking season, and I think he’d be fascinated by the science of baking. Overwhelmed by fruit pies, the boys would enter him as a contestant on the Great British Bake Off where he creates elaborately constructed cakes with wild experimental flavours.

Ginny: Witchcraft tumblr. Mythology and the Hellenistic Gods are her passion. She loves anything spooky and she’s fascinated by the idea of working with nature to harness her own power.
