Obsessed with the way Cameron preaches kindness and compassion but the minute a patient does something she deems unethical she turns downright cruel and even vindictive
#i think at its core house is a show the really leans into hypocrisy#everyone lectures house about things that they then do themselves#they've just decided their reasons are justified#house (the narrative) holds up a mirror to those characters and says 'if it's fine then why is it not fine now?'#'if it's not fine then why is it suddenly fine now?'#house is a terrible person but every terrible trait he has is embodied in one of the other characters#chase is uncaring foreman is proud cameron is cruel#wilson is manipulative cuddy is petty#idr the new ducklings' toxic traits but i'm sure this is true of them too#and the thing that is supposed to be their redeeming trait that they throw out is one that house has in abundance:#a single-minded focus on everyone deserving medical care regardless of any other factor#like yeah he treats people like shit but if he had his way every single person would have the power to walk into a hospital or clinic#and get treated and seen to and have their medical needs taken care of#(not by him god don't involve him unless it's interesting but like#just in general)#and someone doing something unethical or morally bad or that he disapproves of never changes that#even when he's angry at them and ready to spit fire he still has every intention of diagnosing them and figuring out how to treat them

I think Daryl and Carol having so much trauma in their pasts and also shared trauma since meeting each other at the quarry is what's kept them from being a romantic couple. Carol keeps trying fresh starts with new people (Tobin, Ezekiel, Oceanside) who don't know her as well as Daryl does. Meanwhile, Daryl admires strong women (Carol, Michonne, Rosita, Leah) and is more at ease with women in general. The first time he saw Connie she was saving a baby. Who wouldn't like and trust her instantly?
Hi Anon,
I agree with you 100%
I've broken down my thoughts into a few sections because it got a bit long and I just wanted to make this easier for me to write and for readers to follow.
Daryl and Carols Trauma
Yes, this is exactly what has kept them apart. They have both been used and abused by the people in their past who were supposed to protect and love them, and one of the outcomes of that is how they don't believe they deserve to be truly loved.
There's this quote I love from The Perks of Being a Wallflower that goes:
"We accept the love we think we deserve" - Stephen Chbosky
And also:
"When you are not fed love on a silver spoon you learn to lick it off knives" - Lauren Eden
I think both of these capture the psychology behind Carol and Daryl's behaviours in accepting their love for one another.
I believe they both love each other so deeply, but neither thinks they are worthy of the other, or could make the other happy, so they've keep their distance, expecting that there has to be someone better than them out there, someone who could make the other happier.
The love they've chosen
Carol chose Tobin and Ezekiel because they were good guys with whom she could have relationships that were completely under her control. She could only give/show as much of herself as she needed or felt comfortable to do so.
Daryl chose Leah because, well, (this might be controversial) because he thought that's what Carol wanted for him. He was out in that forest for years, at first looking for Rick, but after a while because, as he said, "it just got easier". I think what he meant by that but couldn't really say out loud was that it was easier than being back in the community with everyone, where he would have to watch Carol live a life with Ezekiel, just like the life he's always wanted to have with her, which was too difficult for him.
And when Carol tells him to basically "move on with his life", what she means is "let Rick go and come back to us", but what Daryl hears is "I've moved on with someone else; now you need to move on from me". And Leah happens to be the only female in his life with no connection to Carol or his community, that (as you said) he admired for her strength, and with whom he can hide away. Although I do think Leah was incredibly manipulative with her ultimatums, but Daryl doesn't understand that that kind of treatment isn't okay, because he believes that that's the treatment he deserves.
Meeting Connie
Yes, exactly. He sees Connie as this pure and good creature, and he immediately feels that he has to protect her because people like her help balance out the bad in the world. This type of protectiveness comes from instinct, not romantic feelings or attraction. It's the same reason he felt a draw and obligation to protect Beth and Denise, and then felt so much guilt when he failed to do so. He also probably saw Connie as his chance to redeem himself from the past situations where he failed to protect the people he felt he should have.
What sets Carol apart
Carol, on the other hand, is his equal, his other half. She's just as flawed as him. She can take care of herself just as well as he can. She saves him just as much as he saves her. They know each other better than they know themselves. They love each other unconditionally through both the good things and the ugly things. And at the end of the day, they only really need and search for each other.
I've talked in depth about what Carol means to Daryl in previous posts [here] & [here], so I'll keep this short and won't go into those details again.
Going forward into the future/spinoff
Again, I've spoken about this in previous posts, but I just want to go over it again briefly. I think the spinoff has set up the perfect situation for them to open up to one another without the distraction of all their responsibilities towards others, especially once they start to deal with their past traumas like we already saw Carol doing in episode one and we saw them both doing in the leaked script of the season 2 finale, as they're leaving France.
~~~~~
Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me! Both Carol and Daryl are such complicated characters with so much depth and it's really nice to talk through these things sometimes ♡♡♡
If you have any other thoughts you'd like to share or disscuss with me please don't hesitate to let me know ♡
Durge HCs (with appearances from Gortash)
Some hc rotating in my brain about my durge but I'm too lazy to write fics rn so this is my outlet
The Dark Urge and Gortash learned how to ballroom dance together. Gortash knew he was going to take over Baldur's Gate and figured he should know how to dance like the rich do (he's the kinda guy who believes in dressing for the job you want). So, he decides to teach himself and Durge too since he wants to rule with them. It was clumsy, messy, and got a little violent, bloody, and even erotic at times.
Gortash also made Durge do some other proper society training. Obviously, Durge wasn't built for proper society but Gortash dreamed of it and now thay dream included Durge. So, he made them also learn what fork to use for when (the beast and belle dinner scene frfr) and posture training. Durge hated this very much. They threatened Gortash life many times and many fork were stabbed into hands.
I refuse to believe that Gortash doesn't know how to lace his shirt. Therefore, I've decided that durge used to lace them that way because they were always dressed by their followers so they didn't know how. And now Gortash keeps it that way.
I 100% think that Gortash is obsessed with money and appearing rich. He buys gaudy expensive clothes but doesn't know how to wear them or the current trends because he didn't grow up rich. So, he looks kinda silly with his ugly red shoes and anxiety robe but no one dares make fun of him for it.
And because he cared about clothes and presentation he would buy Durge a lot of clothes that durge probably never wore.
Durge probably went to the shoe store Gortash's parents own when they were a kid before becoming the dark urge.
Orin and Durge are kinda like Zuko and Azula to me. Like even though they're both kinda fucked up inside and hate each other, they're still siblings. They probably had dumb arguments as teens like normal siblings but a little bloodier. And they probably braided each other hair and cared for one enough without admitted it was that. I wish so badly their could be an ending with Orin with a redeemed Durge like their was with Zuko and Azula.
Kinda fucked up but I wouldn't put it past them, Orin and Gortash hooked up after the Durge was taken. Buuut Orin would be shapeshifted into Durge for Gortash. Additionally, Orin used the Durge form to mess with Gortash just for fun.
Redeemed Durge HCs
The general public does not know about Durge being from Bhaal's temple and kinda being the cause of it all. Except for Duke Ravengard (if alive). Which makes it really awkward for a Durge romancing Wyll because his father is so clearly scared of Durge. They feel bad and they're trying to calm him but he's definitely resents them a little.
Durge probably killed Gortash's parents after the whole saving the world thing in the good ending. Like this might be a redeemed durge but they still killed them cause they still felt bad for Gortash and his parents sucked.
Durge made a memorial for Orin, Gortash, and Ketheric. Maybe they even added The Dark Urge too, just to remind themselves that's not who they are anymore.
If Durge is a warlock then original their patron is Bhaal but after they reject him Withers is their new patron.
Since they're kinda the hero of Baldur's Gate now, Durge was forced to do a bunch of public appearances and go to fancy parties and balls. Unfortunately, they've forgotten everything that Gortash taught them before about being in the upper crust so Durge is totally lost and feels like a rabid wolf in a bowtie. However, the gang helps them where they can. Primarily, Wyll and Astarion. Lae'zel offers advice but it's never any good...
The Force is a forest
So I've had a thought.
There are all sorts of posts on this webbed-site that analysis Star Wars, and the Force, and the Jedi vs. Sith dynamic - some I agree with wholeheartedly, others have turned my own worldview on its head, and a select few make me want to throw my computer out a window.
Now I've got one of my own.
The Force, when you come down to it, is an ecosystem. A metaphysical inclusion of all ecosystems in the universe, technically, but for purposes of this analysis we're just going to call it a forest. All different types of fauna and flora, from the big to the small, mega to microbial. All different kinds of networks and relationships, spanning the whole of the forest to just occupying tiny nooks, separate entities working in harmony and others finding the best possible spots to take advantage. Death and rot have their place, too, because nothing lives forever, and when something decays, it provides nourishment to an entirely new generation of life.
The Dark Side is not death and rot.
The Dark side is man-made machinery.
It is the chainsaws, the flamethrowers, the bulldozers, coming in and taking taking taking until there's nothing left, cutting down trees and removing undergrowth and tearing at the earth itself for resources to steal away.
The Jedi Order is big on ideals, on finding your path towards enlightenment and spiritual contentment - in other words, maintaining and watching over a patch of woodland, finding joy in small things and taking time to appreciate each individual detail. That isn't to say sometimes a person doesn't get annoyed, or outright angry, that this plant isn't growing where it should, or that animal is stealing more than its fair share, and at that point, out comes a hatchet or a gun (or a lightsaber), to fix what is seen as the problem. But is the destruction truly necessary? Could the annoying plant have been gently pulled from the soil, and moved elsewhere? Could the irritating animal have been trapped and relocated rather than killed? The point of being a Jedi is not that moments like these never happen: it is learning from them, learning restraint and how to see another option, so that each member of the Order can strive to do and be better.
But if one refuses to mind themselves, if they think well, there was no harm done in cutting down that one weed, or eliminating a single pest. They've joined the cycle of life and death, after all. No great loss to the ecosystem. And that makes it easier to justify the next time a bigger plant needs to be removed, a larger animal exterminated, rearranging the woodland to be better - if it's yours to protect then it's also yours to tend as you wish, right? And you really want that particular tree out of the way for something else to grow instead, but wait, now it all looks wrong, the dratted bugs are gone but nothing new is growing, you cleared out all the frustrating birds but now there's rotting fruit everywhere, why doesn't it look nice anymore, why won't this stupid piece of land do what you want it to? Fine, if it won't cooperate, tear the whole thing down.
But you can't recreate what was lost at that point. Because the level of annihilation you unleash is Not part of the usual cycle of life and death. It is wholly un-natural, and nothing will be as it once was. Perhaps this bit of forest will recover in time, after you've finished and left; perhaps not. Maybe a more gentle soul will come in to repair what they can, in the aftermath or long decades later.
(Maybe, at the very last moment, you are struck by realization, and halt, and attempt to redeem yourself by healing the harm caused - but even then, long years of work won't be enough to restore what was there. Even if the forest does grow back under penitent hands, it will be something new, and possibly not ever equal to its former self.)
Tldr: the Force, as a whole, will have small ups and downs, the occasional wild fire catastrophe, and a wealth of different experiences every day in every place. Individuals can get frustrated, can feel a whole range of emotions, and sometimes inflict more harm than they mean to. Jedi, too, which is why they strive towards the ideal of "there is no emotion, there is peace". Because that's a better path than losing one's temper every day; to tend to the forest, instead of harming it. But Sith? Those who get attached to what they want above any other consideration, who cling to a thing, a person, a vision of how things should be?
They're the ones bringing out woodchippers, sooner or later.
I'm honestly not sure how to start this without sounding wonky, but going back to the turtles not starting as yanderes, I was trying to think up what would make them snap, because it's a Saturday and I was bored. Anyway, I realized it probably wouldn't actually be just one thing, (and not just because I couldn't think of something for everyone) with normal crushes it's not typically one thing happens and they're head over heels. It feels like in most cases they would have to at least been a bit unstable. For all of them something that would probably factor in, at least a bit, is the fact that they've been kinda socially isolated. For the first 15(?) years of their life the only person they'd consistently interacted with was April, and even after they started meeting new people most of them were villains.
As for them individually Raph
It's pretty obvious the guy is paranoid, factor that in with someone that's often in danger, either because they're hanging with the turtles and come into contact or because the plot demands it, probably wouldn't end super well. I feel like he honestly would snap if someone he was already pretty attached to got majorly injured, like close to death. Or something that I've also seen some stuff with him all krangified and adding onto that I think one of the writers(creators?) said on twitter that he would pick up on some thoughts/mentality which would probably make any sort of yandere behavior stuffs worse
Leo I think sure it's been outright stated that Leo feels useless or at least implied, I honestly cant remember. But anyway, I feel like Leo's hypothetical new friend/crush hanging out with other people and just generally not spending time with him would slowly start to get under his skin.
Donnie Donnie often feels like he's overlooked or just generally misunderstood by his brothers so someone showing any interest in his tech would be amazing for him. While Raph is obviously the more overprotective one, Donnie canonically overthinks things already and he'd probably somehow think himself into a corner and decided to check on the cameras outside their house. Just once wouldn't hurt right?
Mikey Mikey is a youngest child (and therefor feral/j) and probably used to getting what he wants and getting away with stuff. I've seen a lot of interpretations of him Idolizing his S/O and honestly that makes the most sense to me. He starts idolizing a friend or someone he knows and it starts spiraling past anything tethered in reality.
These aren't super great but I'm some random annon and not the one with an actual writing blog ( 〃 ..) On another note I figured out how to do colors (⁀ᗢ⁀) -🍰
"For all of them something that would probably factor in, at least a bit, is the fact that they've been kinda socially isolated. For the first 15(?) years of their life the only person they'd consistently interacted with was April,"
This. See, you get it. I firmly believe that them having no interactions with anyone other than themselves and April(and then villains) would do them any good. Their entire life is structured around each other and like one human up until they're ~15. Then, they meet some more people yeah, but almost every one of them starts out or just is a villain. I think everyone but April even in ROTTMNT started out as a villain and just got redeemed(but I can't remember rn). That's going to twist their world view sm.
I really like your Raph analysis(?) but I am fixed on the "I think one of the writers(creators?) said on twitter that he would pick up on some thoughts/mentality" part because WHAT. That's crazy. I love that. Putting that in my back pocket even if it's not true because the amount of concepts I can squeeze from that is insane.
For Leo, his object of affection ignoring him would absolutely drive him insane. I feel like throughout ROTTMNT, he is always trying to prove himself in some way, so his crush/friend focusing on anything other than him would not go well.
For Donnie, I have nothing to add because what you said is perfect ily mwah
See, I only half agree with the idolization personally(Which is my bad because ik a lot of people like it). I just can't see him that way, I guess? Mikey's a bit spoiled and he wants to prove he's just as good as his brothers and can do the things they can. He's kind but a little abrasive and stubborn when he gets down to it. He'd see his friend/crush as his muse, but they'd be the top of his world, but I think sometimes it gets taken too far. He absolutely does spiral over it though, mans creates a whole new reality in his head.
"These aren't super great but I'm some random annon and not the one with an actual writing blog" - With love, how do you think most blogs start out? From what I've seen, you have a really good creative burst and your writing is pretty solid. It's not hard to follow what your saying and I like your headcanons and such. You'd do great on your own writing blog if you ever made one. Don't assume anyone knows what they're doing just because they started a blog lol. You're doing fine.
anyways, this was so cool to read! I'm in awe of your brain and your creative drive. I'm wishing you all the best and hope you have a great day/night. Sorry for taking so long to answer this.
I'm gonna need both Maeve and black noir to make it this season bc i want to see so much more of them especially as part of the boys group also hell yes at your idea of them just dating each other all over the place. I love this show but for something that constancy critiques things like racism and homophobia and sexism and how it manifests in our society it's still very much a very white straight male show which?? How about some queer relationships between your leads dude (part 1)
Like I hope so too because those two characters have so much untapped potential that we got GLIMPSES of this season, especially with the Boys. Maeve and Billy hanging out more would be great, and not in the sense of building up their relationship but because I think we need ANOTHER person who can call him out on his bullshit. And I've said this in other posts but BLACK NOIR AND KIMIKO & FRENCHIE?!?!?! They would work so well together.
That being said, as much as Eric Kripke has been pushed to the front of this series - and like, this isn't a knock against him - he is one of nineteen executive producers, and only wrote three out of, so far, twenty-three episodes. Yes, he's the showrunner, but there are other voices in the mix and Eric doesn't seem like the kind of person to nix ideas that might not appeal to or appear for straight, white, and male audiences. I think season 3 is a perfect example of them shifting away from this being such a white, male, and straight show through having Soldier Boy and - not to sound like Jensen in an umpteenth interview - toxic masculinity take the forefront as the season's villains, with Billy and Hughie falling under its sway. By developing Mother's Milk's backstory, giving him a complex character arc and really pushing him to the forefront of the story instead of focusing on Billy. By having this storyline of Annie not falling into the classic, lovelorn and 🥺 character it feels like she was written to be in the comics (which... talk about a case of American Sitcom Wife between comic Starlight and Hughie) and standing strong for her values against all the people who tried to make her bend as well as being an active agent in a lot of the plans. By, though it might be an unpopular opinion, not moving forward with making Kimiko and Frenchie's relationship romantic in nature - and also giving Kimiko agency and a voice at every turn alongside Frenchie's desire for tenderness that has really been doubled down on this season. I mean, if this show weren't turning away from a white, male, and straight audience would a) there have been the Reddit madness that was hilarious and b) so many men being turned on by Jackles and causing a new generation of Jen-heads? Billy and Hughie are not the driving force of this season nor the heroes they believe they are; they're technically minor antagonists at this point lol. I don't think they'll not be redeemed in the finale, but they've been making some pretty dumb choices all in the effort to make themselves feel better - and we've seen the story not reward them for this by causing rifts between them and the people they care about.
Yes, Supernatural - especially in its earlier seasons - was incredibly sexist and overwhelmingly white, with racist undertones at times and a lot of homophobia that seemed more than making gay people the 'butt of the joke'. But the circumstances and forces at play during Supernatural's early seasons, and the Boys now, couldn't be more different. The writer's rooms are different. Eric isn't the same man he was when Supernatural was in its infancy. There are different people involved. Instead of network television, this is streaming where there's a lot more freedom.
However, I do agree that queer characters on shows that aren't billed as 'gay' do tend to be few and far between without a lot of depth or complexity in their sexuality. We might not see all, if any, of their main male characters engage in queer play or activities, with anyone of the same or a non-binary gender including each other. They're taking strides with Frenchie, who of the Boys is the only confirmed queer character on their roster it seems, and Kimiko, by not taking their relationship into romantic territory - but mainly because of the direction of the story and from actors' and writers' inputs on the relationships.
If the story were to go there, like I've said, I don't see Eric being hesitant about doing so. The hesitance over Destiel - especially towards the end of the series - was majority network with a dash of one or two people in entrenched positions within the creative team. I don't see that, so far, with the Boys. It doesn't seem like they would be afraid if the story took them there, except for maybe Garth Ennis. But there is no active drive to make these choices either instead of being led by the story, which isn't a bad thing but a product of the people behind the wheel I guess which is what you're alluding to. As progressive as people can become, there are still things that they can be unaware of because of the privleges of their lives.
Also, it has to be said, despite Annie and Hughie's relationship being a major part of the story - romance is not the main drive of the Boys nor has it become a central focus of the story and plot like it had for Supernatural.
I like to say there'd be a polycule between Annie, Hughie, Frenchie, and Kimiko. But I also believe next season will focus on Hughie and Annie probably planning their future because it will be a season heavily about parents and children (Soldier Boy & Homelander, Billy & Ryan). If Victoria doesn't survive the season 3 finale, but that seems less and less likely the more episodes we saw, I figured they might adopt her daughter. Adoption, of any superpowered kid, though seems likely given the cover story Hughie mentioned, because why not take in a super-powered kid? Maybe they adopt the laser-eye baby lol. And while Frenchie is queer, who knows if they will introduce someone male-presenting to be his love interest and not have him reunite with Cherry. While I like Billy and Mother's Milk growing into a romantic relationship, they have set up Billy and Maeve in this season (if she survives that is), and I don't think Monique and Mother's Milk's story is over either.
I do think and would like to see Soldier Boy engage in male-on-male activities in the next season, however 😘
#the boys#the boys s3#the boys analysis#billy butcher#hughie campbell#eric kripke#annie january#marvin t. milk#the boys mother's milk#the boys frenchie#the boys kimiko#queen maeve#black noir#soldier boy#it took me awhile to get to this ask but I hope I answered it well lol#it started very much as revenge-driven over a lossed love one trope#but with becca's death I think it ended that which was a change that was needed and why i think billy is being pushed into a redemption arc#and not ending up like his comic book counterpart
So you've already let out some interesting trickles of your opinion here and there, but what do you think of Ozpin as a character?
w– well—
i will try to be brief
first: feel like i gotta preface by emphasizing that my reading of the gods is that they are, unequivocally, evil monsters who pose a dire existential threat to humanity and i fully expect them to return to the story as villains; obv this influences how i read both salem and oz. i categorically disagree with any interpretation of the story that requires taking what the gods say at face value.
with that out of the way:
im OBSESSED with the tension, the unreconcilable conflict between what he wants and the task he never wanted but feels no choice in fulfilling; like, fundamentally ozma is The Chosen One except 1. he never wanted to be and only said yes so he could be with salem, 2. the task he was ostensibly chosen to do is literally impossible, and 3. the actual reason the god of light picked HIM is almost certainly to punish salem, to hurt her in retaliation for her defiance.
and—god help me i'm gonna try to cliff notes my lost fable thesis—i think where a lot of analysis and fan meta on the subject of oz / salem / the brothers falls down is making one of two assumptions, either that the god of light is benevolent or that the gods have hypocritically violated their own rules. (sometimes both)
the first assumption outright cannot be true, because this:
SALEM: Why spend our lives trying to redeem these humans, when we can replace them with what they could never be?
is treated as salem's moral event horizon, and the [apparent*] implication that she considers modern humans inferior on the basis of their not having magic is so horrific that ozma leaves immediately and dedicates the next few thousand years of his existence to finding a way to destroy her—and in the same episode, only a few minutes before this occurs, we hear the god of light say this:
LIGHT: Mankind is no more, yet your world remains, and in time, your kind will grow to walk its face once again. However, without our presence, they will be but a fraction of what they once were.
and this:
LIGHT: If your kind has learned to live in harmony with one another and set aside their differences, then we shall once again live among you, and humanity will be made whole again; but if your kind is unchanged, if you demand our blessings while still fighting amongst yourselves, then man will be found irredeemable and your world will be wiped from existence.
there is zero ambiguity here. the god of light thinks humans are inferior—broken!—without the gods, and if they cannot overcome their basic natures to wash themselves clean of the perceived crimes of their extinct predecessors he'll, at best, stand aside to observe while his brother slaughters them all. again.
[*i have my own thoughts about how jinn constructs this scene and what salem did or did not actually mean, and about what's going on in the lost fable generally, but that's a tangent long enough to break tumblr if i follow it rn.]
anyway,
the second assumption similarly fails because in order for the gods to violate the rules they set for humankind they must first consider themselves subject to those rules, and they blatantly do not. the divine rules concerning the balance of life and death are self-evidently not there to preserve an intrinsic cosmic order, they're one of the variables the gods agreed upon during their first experiment with humankind. that experiment has ended. now they've devised a new one, using different variables. it is clear from the way both of them behave towards humanity and each other that as far as they're concerned they are beholden only to the terms of their mutual agreement—not to the divine law they impose on their creations.
which is to say, they're not hypocrites. they're just tyrants.
and that brings me to the crux of the issue, which is this: the gods do not care whether humankind is united or not. they didn't eradicate humanity for fighting among themselves; they slaughtered every single person on the planet because humanity rebelled. the important piece of the ultimatum, the criteria that will truly matter if the day of judgment comes, is this: "if your kind is unchanged, if you demand our blessings, [...] then man will be found irredeemable."
the ultimatum is obey us, or die.
everything else is a smokescreen.
i think salem understands this. i think in his heart of hearts ozma knows it too, but it scares him so much and he's buried it so, so deep that by the time he became ozpin it was almost gone, but like—ultimately i think this the root cause of a lot of his choices, as ozpin and as every reincarnation stretching all the way back to the catastrophic fall of the ozlem kingdom. the secrets. the lies. the conspiracy. the enshrining of the status quo above all and utter terror of using any of the power at his disposal. even pouring all of his focus into destroying salem even though he knows for a fact that is impossible instead of, literally anything else. like... we see it, in lost fable. ozma does not have the stomach to be a tyrant, and the tyrannical gods coerced him into becoming their enforcer.
and all he's ever wanted is to just be with the woman he loves, but the woman he loves is the architect of rebellion against the gods he's doomed to serve and that unreconcilable conflict of interest destroyed them both and it's tearing the world apart at the seams.
im fucking distraught
and also,
like
ozpin fully blames himself for what the gods have done to him, and this whole thing he does with setting trusted (but not too trusted) allies up to be, like, lone champions—the headmasters of his schools, the maidens, ruby and her silver eyes and her smaller more honest soul—i think the core of this pattern is the self-blame. & like, i think he NEEDS to blame himself for failing to achieve his task, because if he can cling to this belief that he is the problem, that the gods simply made a mistake when they chose him to be their champion, that he isn't good enough but someone else could succeed where he has and is failing—then he doesn't have to emotionally reckon with, you know. all of this. he can spend lifetime after lifetime searching for the right chosen one, and when he finds them and passes the burden on to them they'll be able to carry it without shattering.
it
hurts me
#salem deserves to kill the gods but ozma DESERVES to kill the gods u feel me?#anyway i just want him to be ok :(
I looooove this question! Thank you for asking it! I've put so much work into these three OCs. I mean even more work has gone into Ani, but since her name and age come from the anime, I can't really call her an OC. Just an alternate version of what appeared in the anime. And I wanted them all to fit into Lilo and Stitch's world without being a copy of characters who had gone before. Like, Zeke is not Keoni. Kai is not Mertle. And Mason is a totally new kind of kid-character for the franchise; one I don't think they've tried to make before. (They've done kids with single moms, kids with single dads, kids who are orphaned, but no kids who have been neglected by terrible parents and then gone through the foster system and literally do not understand what family is.) They're new L&S characters. (I hope! ^^') Not like the anime or Stitch and Ai, where they copy archetypes like Mertle and her posse, or Keoni and his appeal, or David and his compassion/role. Zeke is important to the emotional plot, Kai is a main character who balances Ani out, Mason is a vehicle to showing the audience a specific theme. They're all there for a reason, not just to flesh the story out! And the secret is, each of these characters play out some aspect of Stitch's original redemption story from the first movie. Read below for details because I love my 3 boys
Kai Kai's name was always Kai, ever since I started making things for Stitch and Ani. He was inspired by another character I'd made for some original stuff [including the fact that blue is his signature color]. But his personality and reasons for being the bully changed from being a spoiled only child (because, Dover, Nani and David would never spoil a kid) to being the kid that wants to be seen and feel like he's a part of his own family, and he doesn't feel like he's seen or belongs, and things in his life are changing fast when the story begins, so he lashes out. I knew from the anime (and just realistically) that David and Nani had to have had a kid, and for some reason no one in the fandom has ever pictured them having a girl. (I guess because Lilo would presumably be the one with a mini-me daughter, not Nani? If there were to be a real sequel?) Anyway, everyone has versions of a Nani/David kid who is a boy, everyone. And they all look...vaguely similar? Seriously. It's like everyone can picture this kid generally the same way; he's practically canon somehow. Nani's skin, Nani's temper, David's passions, David's hair? (With a little Nani roundness to it in my case!) So Kai's always been on the backburner; he's just inspired by David and Nani themselves.
Mason Mason was a late idea. His name used to be Matthew, but I didn’t think that sounded as simple. I think I started writing/drawing little prototypes of him in 2017, but I never gave him a full name or backstory or anything. I knew Kai had one guy friend who also picked on Ani, and I knew I wanted that guy friend to later crush on Ani, maybe when they were all old enough for that. He was inspired by a group of little boys (brothers) I used to know, all blonde, who were just exact caricatures of stereotypical little boys. Rude, cute, gross, blunt, crazy, messy, funny, curious, loud, redeemable. I wanted a character that not only didn't know what family was - he had the wrong idea about families altogether. Mason thinks family is a joke, and that you're better off without a family in his experience. So it makes it interesting to have his best friend be someone who comes from the BEST family ever. The main themes in L&S inspired Mason. Wanted to make a character that believed in the opposite of those themes, and had to learn them for himself by being around Lilo and Stitch's Ohana. Zeke Z’s will be longer. His name was always Zeke! Zeke is the first OC I made for the Lilo and Stitch franchise, and the inspiration for his looks only has always been (SORT OF) the singer/songwriter Sam Tsui from YouTube. I was a fan of his back in 2010, and I was going between different looks for the character, and I saw Sam’s video for his cover of I Knew You Were Trouble Taylor Swift, and I thought ‘that’s Zeke!!’ And so. That’s Zeke. In looks. Anyway, Z was inspired by Sam and inspired by the idea that to make Ani look like something other than a copy of Lilo, she needed a father you actually got to see, so you knew she wasn’t Keoni’s (the only fan theory out there for Ani’s dad, yikes) and so it didn’t feel like Lilo just had this surprise mini-me and the father’s identity didn’t matter. You can do a lot in a story by depicting a family that isn’t perfect or has suffered tragedies, and since Lilo’s fam already had both of those things in the franchise, it made sense to show the history of her relationship with this guy and what happened to that and how it affects her and her daughter in the present. It’s a great thematic opportunity and it makes the characters and the story richer. And to anchor Z to the original franchise and make their bond feel believable, I had it decided early on that Zeke and Lilo had already met once before college - they spent a summer together as kids! It was the summer before Lilo’s parents died (which also helps explain Lilo’s comment about not seeing tourists socially as a defense mechanism in Swapper). So I wanted Zeke to fit in with Lilo, to be a good match for her. Keoni’s character was older, and her relationship with him was just that of a little kid’s crush. Sweet, but not marriage material in the future! Instead, we have Zeke, who is roughly Lilo’s age, and where she’s opinionated and loud, he’s shy and reserved. They both love things like Wasp Mummies films and Halloween monsters and Zeke is just the kind of guy to believe in and accept Lilo’s alien family. He’s a singer and a dancer, and we know Lilo worships Elvis, so that works. His color schemes are shades of orange (her favorite color!) and yellow and, yes, red. His character is tailor-made to work well with Lilos romantically, even platonically - but in a different way than Stitch works well with Lilo [platonically]. Basically I saw the opportunity for an OC that would fit the story, explain important things in the story, and make the overall story better. And that’s Zeke Lau!
Inside Jokes and References in the Full Bios
Mainly for @spacelizardtrashboys and @kuruumiya
Also: Any time strikethrough text is used it's because it's meant to be secret information, for example on the small bios any time 'Lucifarian' truly isn't their last name their is strikethrough test after saying that it's not their real name. This is to say that no matter what is written or if it's strikethrough text or not, it is there for a reason.
Damien - Bio In-Jokes and References:
The Quote for him refers back to his 'King of Hell' gimmick, as does his middle name, Rex means king.
He's protective, like a dad, but also way too overprotective over the gimmicks for the girls. He's an old, old school guy so he enjoys card games with the boys.
He's supposed to sound like a young Hugh Laurie, mainly because if I heard a young Hugh Laurie say Damien's bio quote I wouldn't be able to take him seriously.
His main finisher (Seventh Circle) refers back to (a) him being the king of hell and (b) the seventh circle is for violence, and well, he's a wrestler, that's a pretty violent job.
He calls fans both 'peasants' and his 'loyal subjects' because he's like an asshole-ish king who'd quickly be dethroned if they rebelled.
Vickie - Bio In-Jokes and References:
The Quote for her refers back to her gimmick along with the old saying 'pride comes before the fall'.
She's called 'Victoria' because of both (a) it meaning victory and (b) the fact that Queen Victoria ruled back when Britain had an empire, then the empire fell (as in pride [Vickie] before a fall)
Both Her and Damien are born in August and are the only two to share a birth month as they are Father and Daughter (non-kayfabe, as in they share DNA)
She's raised Christian as back when she was growing up England was a lot more Christian than when she became an adult so she got lax in her beliefs
Her personality is supposed to make her come across as a vain, rich, arse of a person, yet deep down she's still redeemable, she's got a long way to go before she actually redeems herself though
She's the type of person who makes sure EVERY little detail of her matches and promos are PERFECT to the point that she will control what other people do or say, down to the moment it's said/done and the way it's said/done
She only likes the other D.O.D (Daughters of Darkness) members because she has only made enemies in the short while they've been in the company, she especially dislikes George 'The Animal' Steele because of his very messy style going against her 'everything should be perfect' views
She's the leader, the brain and the mouth because of her control over the group, if she let them have more control, there might be less arguments about her amount of control
Her named moves are also references to both her gimmick and other things. Beheader is named because of the Tudor monarchs of England having kind of a thing for killing people in this way (ex. Henry VIII).
Lineage Ender is named that because if she ever botches that one specific move (it'll make sense in context/ she does it during a training scene) it could end either her own Lineage or the person she's doing it to.
Lion's den is called that because she traps them in a near-inescapable crucifix pin, and normally if someone goes into a den of Lions, they aren't escaping in one piece.
Family Pride is named that because not only is her gimmick the sin of pride, but she's got pride in her family and she's her dad's 'pride and joy' because she's his only child.
Wish for this (her main finishing move) is called that because it's an inside joke of "you're gonna 'wish for this' to be over soon"
As she's Damien's blood daughter, a 'prodigal son' joke seemed somewhat appropriate.
Billie - Bio In-Jokes and References:
Her quote is a reference to the Guerreros and the whole 'Latin lover' trope
She was born in February because of Valentine's day, hence why her birthday is two days before the 14th
She's 1/2 Cuban (just in general - both Mexican and Cuban culture is interesting to me) But she's 1/2 Cuban in case I ever need to write for Razor Ramon, I can get away with making the joke of 'my Cuban accent's better than yours'.
Her casual style is 'Suggestive' because how else is Lust supposed to dress.
She dislikes Hulk Hogan because she finds him incredibly annoying and she dislikes Jesse Ventura because she dislikes his fashion choices.
I imagine her uncle Hugo looks like Luis Guzman and her dad's like Raul Julia. Try to imagine those two wrestling as a luchador tag team.
Her mother was basically a valet to her dad, which was usually Billie's role before she was part of the D.O.D.
Her move name references are all song references: Love me Tender - Elvis' song of the same name, Personal Aphrodite - a reference to / joke on 'Personal Jesus', Sexual Healing - Marvin Gaye's song of the same name.
Also, I hope to eventually use the joke 'The Babe, the babe with the power,' 'What power?' 'Power of voodoo' 'Who do?' 'You do' 'Do what?' 'Remind me of the babe' because of one of her commentary nicknames being 'The Babe'
P.G - Bio In-Jokes and References:
Her quote is in reference to her being greed and (right at the start of the story) her thoughts on money actually being able to buy her happiness
her surname 'Voronin' means crow, and well, crows like shiny things, like money
she wears 'fancy but simple' clothing because if she bought designer clothes she'd be in debt, but she still wants to look like she has more money than everyone else
she's cowardly in a Jimmy Hart way, she'll piss someone off during a promo and run away once she feels like she's in danger
she's a showman because she's more show than work, meaning she works exceptionally quick matches.
Her moves are basically jokes on the fact that she is greed, such as Gold-digger and Diamond Ring. However, Money Maker is also a joke on the fact that it's a facebuster and usually an actor's face is called their 'money maker'
She hates Hulk Hogan and Sgt slaughter because of how patriotic they are
Kirby - Bio In-Jokes and References:
Her quote is a reference to (a) the fact that she's Gluttony, (b) her being the only one who wears a mask constantly and (c) her basically being the group's scare tactic against people who think they can push them around.
I am planning on eventually making her a part of the machines, maybe as a valet, maybe as a wrestler, not 100% sure as of right now
Her mother is the Norwegian-Scottish one and her father is the Irish-Welsh one
She is the tallest (not the heaviest, that's Damien) but she's still 9 inches shorter than André.
She's willing to bleed hardway, but hates blading
She hates Big John Studd because of his disrespect, she hates Hulk Hogan because she thinks he's obnoxiously 'American', she dislikes Lord Alfred Hayes and Dynamite Kid because they are so insistent on calling her '1/4 Icelandic' whenever she talks about being 1/4 Norwegian. She hates Brutus Beefcake because he's just 'so, so much' energy-wise.
She's always been tall, always shorter than André though, she was 5'6" when she was 12, which is still taller than Sam, P.G and Eli.
Kirby's the best at using folk tales and mythology references in her promos and still keeping them dark and scary.
Her speaking voice is Jessica Hynes, but I imagine her singing voice (which will be important later) to be that of Deee-lite's Lady Miss Kier. On that note, I will be putting up a post on this part of the fic's canon.
Feeding Frenzy is meant to look similar to Roddy's wild punches, hence the 'frenzy' part of the name.
Organ grinder is named because it's meant to look really hard (like she's putting all her force and weight into it) as if she's grinding her opponents organs
Hungry for Blood is an in-joke of during her toughest matches she seems hungry to give the fans the sight of blood
Consummation is a joke of 'the match will soon be over, the match will soon be concluded, or consummated' not the sex-based meaning of that word.
Number of the beast, which is 666, is a reference to the 619, and is a modified 619 basically.
Vampire's Bite is a reference to her sitout jawbreaker looking like she could possibly bite someone's neck, like a vampire, as she performs the move
I didn't want to call her chops, chops, so I made a joke of 'oh it's chopping, like a butcher's knife'
Overfeeding is another basic gluttony reference. Cheshire Grin is a facelock-based joke. Let Them Eat Cake is a butt=cake joke
The ogress is a thinly-veiled way of the commentary team calling her ugly, because why else would she be the only one in a mask
Holly - Bio In-Jokes and References:
Her quote is written that way because I always wanted her to sound like she comes from New Jersey
She's very cuddly towards the rest of the D.O.D and thus gets called a teddy bear by the others
She's Pansexual because she doesn't care what your gender is, she loves people just being themselves
She's the only ginger because I've never seen a ginger wrestler from New Jersey
She was raised Catholic but lost her faith upon realising how bad gay people are treated by the church (Holly literally just goes "Y'all it is 1984, how are y'all gonna reject people based on who they love?")
Holly's very much the person who'll ask permission to cut a promo on someone but won't tell them how harsh she's going to be
She's the group's mom friend (mum friend?)
Before she started travelling with another member of the group (Holly travels with Sam a lot) she would accidentally no-show events
She does accidentally give incredibly stiff shots
Holly likes Gorilla Monsoon because their friendship is very much a weird pseudo-dad-daughter friendship, so basically, she's using him as her new dad
Her voice is Angie Harmon because I think Harmon sounds like a badass from New Jersey
Naptime, Dirt Nap and Lullaby are jokes of 'I'm gonna knock you out'
Eli - Bio In-Jokes and References:
Her quote is a joke of 'this is why she doesn't do a lot of promos'
She's the most likely to be on one of those 'too hot for TV' blooper reels from her promos
Both she and Sam hate people taller than them
Sam - Bio In-Jokes and References:
Her quote is a reference to the fact that her tattoos are her 'masterpiece'
she dresses athletically because she's always ready for a fight, especially because she's usually the one picking fights
She likes Lou because he's like a crazy uncle to her and she likes George Steele because, unlike Vickie, she likes the wild man side of his gimmick
She's voiced by Melissa Etheridge because she's still feminine but is the most masculine sounding
Kurt Cobain on intersectionality, his radical intent to use the entertainment industry as a means to spark revolutionary change
———
Journals; Pages 167-170:
Hi,
Yeah, all Isms feed off one another, but at the top of the food chain is still the white, corporate, macho, strong ox male. Not redeemable as far as I'm concerned. I mean, classism is determined by sexism because the male decides whether all other isms still exist. It's up to men. I'm just saying that people can't deny any ism or think that some are more or less subordinate. Except for sexism: He's in charge, He decides. I still think that in order to expand on all other isms , sexism has to be blown wide open. its almost impossible to deprogram the incestually established male oppressor, especially the ones who've been weaned on it thru their familys generations line, die hard NRA freaks and inherited corporate power mongrels, the ones who were born into no choice but to keep the torch and only let sparks fall for the rest of us to gather at their feet. But there are thousands of green minds, young guiltable 15 year old boys out there just starting to fall into the grain of what they've been told of what a man is supposed to be, and there are plenty of tools to use. The most effective tool is entertainment. The entertainment industry is just now starting to accept us (mainly because of trendy falseness and environmentally socially concious hype ie the new 90s attitude, which is at a total standstilll because of the patriotic aftermath of the war and all its members, rally-parades) but they're using MEDIA!! Media. Major labels. The evil corporate Oppressors, (god i need a new word!) the ones who are in KAHOOTS with the government, the ones the underground movement went into retaliation against in the early 80s. The capitalists are finally allowing supposedly subversive, alternative thinking bands to have a loan of money to expose their crusade. Obviously they aren't forking out loans for this reason, but more because it looks to be a money making commodity. But we can use them!! We can pose as the enemy to infiltrate the mechanics of the system to start its rot from the inside. Sabotage the empire by pretending to play their game. Compromise just enough to call their bluff, and the hairy, sweaty, macho sexist dickheads will soon drown in a pool of razorblades and semen, stemmed from the uprising of their children, the armed and deprogrammed crusade, littering the floors of Wall Street with revolutionary debris. Assassinating both the less and greater of two evils, bringing an everlasting, sterile and bartering herbacious and botanical corporate cleansing for our ancestors to gaze in wonderment and Awe. AWE! geezus christ. (repeat): posing as the enemy to infiltrate the mechanics of the empire and slowly start its rot from the inside, for an inside job - it starts with the custodians and the cheerleaders, and ends with the entertainers. The youth are waiting, impatiently. Homophobe vassectomy. It's like what (??) said about how in school there was this class that you went to and they were teaching the girls how to prepare themselves for rape and when you looked outside and saw the rapers outside playing football and you said "they are the ones who should be in here being taught not to rape". How true! Suck em in with quality entertainment and hit em with reality. The revolution will be televised. There's this new 24 hour channel on cable called the 90s which is available only in a few states so far and its magazine version can be seen on PBS (public broadcasting system) once a week. It's pretty damn informative and it exposes injustices in a kind of conservative\liberal format but its new so it has to be that way. I've seen it a few times and really liked it. Also night flight is back. You know, the show that used to play new wave theatre? We plan to use these shows and others if given the chance. (___), yeah I know I'm some confused, uneducated, walking cliche but I don’t need to be inspired any longer, just supported.
My Top 18 Favorite Movies, TV Shows and/or Cartoons of 2018 (in no particular order) Part Dos
10. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power
Ignore the neckbeards who have nothing better to do, so they complain about reboots of cartoons from the quote on quote "golden age of animation, the 80's". She-Ra and the Princesses of Power is a really great show, that yes, is better than the original 80's show. It's able to create a more fun and engaging story, while also having a lot of memorable and likable characters. It also has a theme that I found very interesting, where the villains aren't born evil, they are just misled in the wrong direction and don't truly know wrong from right. It's quite a bold theme for the show. If there is a kind of big flaw, the animation is a little wonky. Some shots and scenes look great, while others are very easy to see where the animation mistakes are. That said, it's still a great show that takes advantage of all of it's fun and interesting characters, and brings them together in a new show that blows its predecessor out of the water. And yes, LGBT fans. It's very, very gay.
11. Spider-Man Into the Spider verse
What a comeback story. Who would have thought that the studio that made the whole world of animation cry last year would end up making the best animated film of the year? But anyways, Spider-Man into the Spiderverse is not only able to live up to all the hype it's been getting for the past year, but it also blew our expectations away. First of all, it looks GORGEOUS. It's able to make a visual style that's not only very beautiful and interesting, but it also happens to create a loving tribute to the original medium of comic books. Second, they put just as much effort in the story as they did with the visuals, which is not only a very fun superhero film, but also manages to be a very engaging emotional story as well, with lots of fun, interesting and memorable characters as well. If there is something to say isn't perfect, I did notice at least one plot hole that left me a bit confused, and they kind of blew the wad for putting in a few too many characters, where, while fun and memorable, don't have that much screen time and don't leave as big of an impression as the main characters. But still, it's one of the year's best movies, so go watch it NOW!
12. Flcl Progressive and Alternative
The first anime I ever saw was FLCL. It was insane, had gorgeous animation, memorable characters and I loved every minute of it. Do its sequel series' live up to the original's legacy. Well, let me put it this way. I very much enjoyed both shows, equally too. I thought they were very fun shows, and their themes, while sometimes a little hit-and-miss, still got their points across, the new characters were very fun and memorable, and the action scenes were also animated very well. With all that said, they still don't hold a candle to the original show. But that's okay, because I imagine it'd be very hard to. I still think that both of these new shows were very good, and although not as great as the original FLCL, was still lots of fun, and somewhat worthy successors to one of the greatest animas of all time. I still recommend both, since they still were good in my opinion.
13. Hilda
Miss Gravity Falls and Over the Garden Wall? Then have I got the show for you. Hilda is a great show from Netflix that manages to capture the spirits of both those shows, but also having its own identity and voice. One thing I appreciate about the show is that not only can it be calm and laid back in more character and establishing moments, but it also can be equally as exciting and fun for its more adventurous and action scenes. The characters are all very charming. Hilda is a free-spirited and adventurous young girl, but she's not a pushover or overly cheery either. Her friends both regular and supernatural, can sometimes fall into familiar tropes, but also are very fun and enjoyable to watch. (Alfie's my favorite). It's a great show to watch, especially on days you want to cozy up with a cup of hot liquids of some kind, and take it all in. It's a great show, and I highly recommend giving it a watch.
14. Christopher Robin
I missed Winnie the Pooh. Yes, an 18-year old male misses the adventures of a talking teddy bear. Deal with it. But anyways, for a while it seemed that Disney had somewhat given up on the bear with little brains, but they've given him another chance with this new film, but this time, mainly focusing on his human friend, Christopher Robin. One thing this movie gets right is the feeling of Winnie the Pooh. Pooh has never been known for incredibly convoluted stories, just mainly simple tales that it's colorful cast of characters can bounce off of, and this movie nails that feeling down. It's also close to the original cast of characters, since deviating away from their personalities would be considered a form of blasphemy. Also, the performances here are great too. Evan McGregor makes a surprisingly good Christopher Robin, Hayley Atwell is charming as his wife, the girl who played their daughter was pretty good too, and of course, our friends from the 100 Acre Woods are played very well by the new cast, especially the one and only Jim Cummings, the only modern voice for both Pooh and Tigger. Now it does have flaws, like the story is kind of the typical "Dad's too busy for the kids", and although I've grown to like it over time, but sometimes it got a little too dramatic for some scenes, and at time Christopher Robin himself came off a bit as whiny and unlikable in some scenes. With that said, it's very easy to see that the whole film is a big love letter to Winnie the Pooh. No, it's not the best movie of the year, Or anything like that, but if you want a nice, enjoyable and cute movie to watch, then Christopher Robin is the perfect film to watch.
15. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
I'll break my rule just this once to include a video game here. Super Smash Bros Ultimate was the biggest game from Nintendo this holiday season, and boy did it deliver. The last Smash Bros. game, was lots of fun, with it bringing all of our favorite (popular) video game characters together for a huge brawl. This next one, takes it up to 11. One thing I walkways admired from the games is that it's not the world's most complicated fighter game, while also still being oodles of fun. Only one big flaw: no Waluigi. Nah, just kidding. It's a great game, and a great farewell to the world of Smash from it's director, Masahiro Sakurai.
16. The Dragon Prince
Here's another show that didn't get that much attention on Netflix, The Dragon Prince. Made by the head writer from Avatar: The Last Airbender, and the creator of the Uncharted games, comes a massive fantasy epic focusing on the Battle between humans and fantasy creatures like elves and dragons. One thing I really love about this show is just how complex the characters and their morals are. It's a show that takes a lot of advantage from this theme. It's also filled with lots of fun, yet also very interesting characters. You will probably get attached to them by the end of the show, which may break some hearts too... But yeah, might as well address the elephant in the room, the animation. In fact, I do think that maybe the reason it didn't immediately catch on was because a lot of people were turned off by the animation style. But I still recommend it and ask that you give it a chance, because not only was it lots of fun, and very interesting, but the story and characters help redeem the animation, plus it does improve itself over time. Please, please, please give The Dragon Prince a chance, it's a great show.
17. Ralph Breaks the Internet
Don't worry. It's not another Emoji Movie. Ralph Breaks the Internet is not only a worthy successor to the original film, but it also manages to expand a lot on the heart from the original. This time, instead of arcade games, it plucks our characters into the Internet, and unlike the Emoji Movie, manages to make more clever and creative ideas while being on the Internet. And yeah, maybe the scene when Vanellope visits the Disney website might be Disney patting themselves on the back a little too hard, but it's still a very funny and enjoyable scene that also helps move the plot forward. But one thing the movie was amazing at was expanding on its characters and their development. It even manages to avoid the typical happy ending, which, without spoiling anything, actually makes a change in the characters lives. If there is a flaw, like I said, it's 10 times better than the Emoji Movie, but I will admit, between the cameos from Youtubers and the one scene where Ralph becomes a meme, did kind of make me roll my eyes, but thankfully, unlike the Emoji movie, it doesn't dwell too much on these scenes all that much, and knows when to move the plot forward in the right direction. I still say it's a worthy sequel that's worth your time.
Also, Yesss is my new waifu.
18. Mary Poppins Returns
Here's one of the few live-action Disney films in recent years, I feel are very worthy to the legacy of their original film. Mary Poppins Returns is just a complete and utter joy of a film, not unlike the original classic. The performance of Emily Blunt as the titular nanny is a worthy successor the original by Julie Andrews, and character in general. Lin Manuel-Miranda not only does a great job in continuing the spirit of Dick Van Dyke from the first film, but also in writing a plethora of great songs that are amazingly performed and choreographed by the cast, while also giving tribute to the Sherman Brother's original songs. Even the kids, who I kind expected to get on my nerves, are actually pretty likable and fun, and are given, eh passable performances by their actors and actress. The animation sequence brought a tear to my eye, not only because it was lots of fun, but because I'm just happy to beautiful 2D Disney animation on the big screen again. If there is some flaws, yeah, the story is yet another Dad needs to spend more time with kids plot again, and it does bring some more action/suspenseful moments that I don't feel are completely in spirit to the original film's more laid back tone. But regardless, it's an overall great and very charming new film from Disney, and although I would like them to try doing some more original stuff with their live-action movies, I hope can keep the spirit of both this film,and a lot of the classic live-action Disney movies (like the original Mary Poppins, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Treasure Island, Darby O' Gill, Swiss Family Robinson and some others you guys probably never heard of).
So that's about it. Thank you all for sticking around listening to me talk about all these Movies and TV shows are worth remembering from this year, and there's a lot I'm excited for next year, and I hope that this next year can be an improvement, with more kindness and joy from the world and from people. Yeah, it's wishful thinking, but it's not a bad wish to have. Thank you all for supporting this page for the last year,and I'LL see ya in 2019!
