To be honest
I don’t get takeo’s appeal. She was a bitch the whole time. Is it really based off looks alone?
Let be real
I never seen a fan depict her correctly

How would Ciel feel if he had a fem s/o who wore gothic Lolita style dresses?
Stylish Choices - Ciel Phantomhive
Tumblr media
A/N: I had to search this one up to be honest lol. I haven’t heard of these dresses before but I absolutely love them now that I know what they are! Hope this turned out ok <3
Personally I think Ciel would love your clothing style
He loves the way you look in your dress, how puffy yet form-fitting it is
Ciel likes the way the dark colors bring out your eyes
And it’s a plus that he also enjoys wearing darker colors, so the two of you tend to match coincidentally
It doesn’t matter how long or short the dress is, he loves how gorgeous you are in it
You’re just as ‘edgy’ and ‘mysterious’ as he is in the way you both present yourselves, and it is just so aesthetically pleasing

GOTH LEGACY CHALLENGE
Tumblr media
Making this for myself and any of you guys who wanna tag along to this little experiment with me!
The goal of this challenge is simple: get to 10 generations, with each one representing a different goth subculture and fashion, starting with the Goth family. I hope that through this, you guys can see the love I have for the goth culture :)
For extra drama: none of the Goths of the main family line may die of old age.
RULES PER GENERATION BELOW:
GEN 1: Aristocrat Goth
The founders of the Goth legacy, their aristocratic air lends credence to their importance. Drawing from historical periods such as the Victorian and Edwardian eras, this subgenre of goth fashion features tailor suits, cravats, waistcoats, corsets and hats.
Master the piano and violin skills.
Reach 500,000 simoleons in savings.
Master the business career.
Make enemies with at least one Landgraab.
GEN 2: Witchy Goth
Drawing inspiration from their parents' lifestyle and beliefs, Cassandra and Alexander adopt a more spiritual approach to the goth aesthetic. This fashion subgenre is characterized by esoteric and spiritual elements in the outfit, such as moons, stars, skulls and maybe black cats if you want to be on the nose with it, while the cultural approach to it is inspired mainly by, of course, witchcraft.
Become a spellcaster.
Master the medium skill.
Learn all potions.
Reach lvl 5 in the gemology skill.
GEN 3: Traditional Goth
The "original" goths, who find their roots in gothic rock born in the post-punk era, the traditional goths are what you first think of when you hear the word goth: ripped, black clothes, dark makeup and wild hair. As a punk offshoot, traditional goths prioritize self-expression, individuality and challenging traditions.
Join any artistic career, and reach lvl 5 in it.
Master the guitar skill.
Volunteer at least once a week.
Befriend any occult.
GEN 4: NU Goth
A slightly controversial subgenre in the goth culture, NU or "new" goth is a more modern approach to the goth genre. More lenient in their view of what "makes" a goth, they are known to be more welcoming to mall goths and baby bats than trad goths (though that does not mean traditional goths are hostile to the two, simply that there is a prominent debate in the goth scene on what consists "a true goth"). This fashion type is what you'd probably find on pinterest or tiktok, with the more current fashion trends influencing the style.
Sell at least 5 thrifted outfits.
Join the social media career.
Film fashion tutorials at least once a week. (Get Famous)
Have at least 500 followers on any social media.
GEN 5: Cyber Goth
The cybergoth subculture and fashion mixes industrial, 2000s and rave aesthetics in one, featuring leather, neon colors, futuristic looks and a love for electronic music. They embrace philosophical discussions and imaginations of a dystopic information society future.
Master the DJing skill.
Reach lvl 5 in the dancing skill.
Go clubbing at least once a week.
Master the programming or robotics skill.
GEN 6: Pastel Goth
Mixing the kawaii aesthetic with gothic ideals and themes, pastel goth makes it's mark by ... well, being pastel. Often seen dipping into lolita or fairy kei fashion, this style can accessorize with sometimes cutesy details. This style is more focused on the fashion and aesthetics of the gothic look rather than the music, and on having fun with their self-expression.
Have an all-pastel home !
Join the Style Influencer career.
Make 5 friends.
Thrift clothes at least once.
GEN 7: Romantic Goth
As expected, romantic goth subculture focuses on romanticizing death, the macabre and the dark. They find beauty and appreciation in things like withered roses, skulls and more. Their fashion is characterized by flowy, ethereal silhouettes, and a feminine touch to their outfits. Its the embrace of beauty.
Have a gothic wedding ceremony.
Master the writing skill.
Have a cemetery.
Romance a vampire at least once.
GEN 8: White Goth
The white goths reverse the traditionally dark and ... well, black palette of the gothic genre for white, and other such colors you shouldn't wear at a wedding. Their clothing taste often includes silks, ethereal garments, ornate jewelry and parasols.
Master the organ skill.
Master the painting skill.
Serenade someone at least once.
Wear white at a wedding.
GEN 9: Victorian Goth
The Victorian Goth subculture pays homage to the elegance and refinement of the 19th century. Their fashion sense borrows from the Victorian era, with silhouettes evocative of the era, top hats, lace and corsets. They mix the aesthetic of a bygone era with the ideologies of all goths, that of individualism and self-expression through art and fashion.
Do not own any electronics, lights included.
Master the writing skill.
Own at least one horse, and travel to lots with it.
Paint at least 20 paintings.
GEN 10: Vampire Goth
Inspired by vampire lore and horror, the vampire goth fashion scene includes elegant, intricate designs, corsets, capes, vampire fangs (real or otherwise) and bloody, macabre themes. Like the romantic goths, they find beauty and allure in the dead and the deadly, and would probably love owning a fainting couch.
Master the charisma skill.
Master the vampire lore skill.
Turn at least 5 sims into vampires.
Become a Master Vampire.

recently i've noticed there's been an uptick in people interpreting the aesthetics of death note as christian, and i feel this is at least in part due to the declining popularity of gothic lolita fashion, which is an extremely significant influence on death note's art.
the presence of a religious motif does not represent an invocation of religion. for many people there just isn't any connection between a cross and religion; the invocation is more of decadence, a specific view of the west, and the grotesque. this is especially true in a country such japan where christianity is a minority religion (composing less than 1.5% of the population) but it's also true elsewhere, and it was especially true in the early 2000s, where gothic lolita and fashion styles influenced by it (including visual kei and japanese punk fashion) were extremely prevalent.
from the lolita fashion wiki, we get this description of gothic lolita fashion: "Common motifs in Gothic Lolita often include crosses or religious themes, bats, skulls, coffins, chandeliers, deep red roses, and castles." and then if you look at pictures of gothic lolita outfits or products, you can see that religious motifs repeatedly occur to add interest:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is really obviously not intended to invoke christianity. it's aesthetic. it invokes the grotesque. in the first photo particularly, you can see that the cross is placed alongside other death motifs -- gravestones and bones. or you can look at this image, in which a lolita is shown surrounded by extremely explicitly religious items (crucifixes and a bible, in addition to the other aesthetic crosses.) again, it's fairly obvious that the intention here is not to be devout but rather to give this sense of the grotesque.
Tumblr media
the most obvious example of a character who wears actual gothic lolita fashion is misa amane, but looking at the 'religious' aesthetics more broadly you can see they fall pretty clearly in line with this sense of decadence and the grotesque. again, christian imagery is connected directly to death motifs.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so yes, they're absolutely christian items, but the actual effect of them is not religious. there is no attempt to invoke christian themes but rather to use christian items to give a sense of the morbid. vitally, this isn't even something ohba and obata made up for death note -- it's a common fashion style that they're drawing upon. the whole thing is several layers of distance away from any religious implications.
it's honestly really hard to understate how common these aethetics were in the early 2ks -- you could walk into claire's and find crosses all over the place. they're secular. people wore them because they looked cool. it just does not make sense to look at these images and automatically assume they're trying to say anything about christianity.
i don't think it's untrue to say that there are some religious themes in death note -- this is kind of a complicated question that i won't get into here -- but the assumption that they must specifically be christian religious themes just because death note is using christian motifs is taking the visual language of death note entirely out of context.

Hii!!! i really love all your writing and wanted to request smth if that's okay!
could i request law x so who's into lolita fashion/subculture? Like, on days that they're able to they'll wear really extravagant looking lolita dresses and such, and is just overall really girly, and might be embarrassed about being such, esp with someone like him. but maybe he even likes that they're aesthetic opposites. idk fjsjfjfk
Ty!! <3
(idk if i need to say this but lolita fashion doesn't have anything to do with the. other uses of the term. sometimes ppl make accusations abt it but the jfashion and book are not related)
Lolita Style S/O w/ Law
Tumblr media
Content: can be read as GN reader that wears skirts, all SFW
Notes* Thanks for being patient with me while I worked on this request! A couple of things popped up for me (and my new-used computer quit suddenly so I have to wait to see if it can be repaired or if I should just buy a brand new one) so I’ve been trying to work around this. Back to mobile tumblr I go 😢 ! Anyway- I know all too well how lolita culture gets sexualized in people’s eyes so this is a completely nsfw-free request. I made this more relatable to those in sweet style lolita more than gothic lolita since you’d commented about them being opposites and personally, I think it would be super cute for him to be paired with someone with this style. Hope you like it :)
Law
Law isn’t the type to pay attention to what people wear as long as they are dressed in proper uniform when need be. Self expression is something personal, and he’s aware of different everyone’s style is
Though he finds it hard not to notice how you dress on your days off, whether it’s just around the sub or out on the town
It’s a lot of pastel, and a lot of fabric
You hadn’t thought of what Law or the others might’ve thought the first time you dressed up, so when you kept catching Law staring at you at various points of the day, you started to feel a little nervous
Later though, the two of you had crossed paths and he stopped you there to ask about your choice of clothing
While you explained how you enjoyed the colours and the overly girly feel of it all, he listened to every word, and even asked you some questions- like how everything fit together, and how you chose to match your accessories to your clothes
He was intrigued, and being a knowledgeable man, he wanted to learn about you and your clothing style
He’d even gone off to do his own research at the next island, and secretly commissioned a seamstress to make a little purse modeled after Bepo’s face for your outfits because god knows this guy can’t sew for shit
Law had been waiting for you outside of your door, his present to you held in his hand, in a sweet little bag. You weren’t expecting to see him, nor were you expecting any sort of gift- it was nowhere near your birthday- but here he was. He pushes himself off from leaning against the door when he sees you.
“Here. I’m not sure if it’s alright, but I thought you might be able to use this.”
He hands you the bag, and you thank him before going off about how he didn’t need to get you anything, and asking what the occasion is as you dig through the white, glittery tissue paper to open it.
“No occasion. I just thought you’d like it.” He tries to act nonchalant and calm, but he’s watching your face for any changes to see if you like it or not.
You pull out the bag and gasp- it was perfect. Fluffy and pristine white, perfect for an outfit you’d been trying to put together for a while now- and it looked like your dear crewmate. You pull it to your chest with a big smile, going on a bit of a ramble at how cute it is, and how you’re going to use it right away.
The entire time you’re squealing over your new gift he’s smiling to himself, even if he doesn’t realize it.
The next time you change into your style, you make sure to keep the mini Bepo bag at your side. It goes great with your outfit
Bepo freaks out a little at the likelihood of the purse and his own face, but you quickly calm him down and explain that it’s not the head of a polar bear that you’re carrying around
Law watches you fawn over the bag with him from a distance, smiling to himself
He joins you later to walk around town with you. He’s come to enjoy how your style stands out so well beside him against his usual darker clothes
Law will also help you get dressed if you let him, buckling your shoes for you so you don’t have to fight the layers of skirt to reach your feet, or helping you pin up your hair pieces
You’d asked him once if he’d like to try men’s lolita style and he was very quick to shut that down.
“It looks better on you than it will on me.”
He really just likes seeing you as the unique one

ended up deciding to expand my roleswap au: celeste and hifumi
not everyone will have a talent that's a perfect swap but i think these guys are such foils of each other that there was no other option. also it's funny to imagine
celeste is the ultimate doujin artist. 'celeste ludenberg' is the pseudonym she publishes under
she cosplays gothic-lolita style when she goes to conventions but most of the time she min-maxes for comfort over looks
her determination + desire to create her ideal world through her work -> overworking herself
hifumi is the ultimate gambler. with an appreciation for anime and manga. and gentleman aesthetics
he takes advantage of how others underestimate him for his appearance by making himself seem shallow/dim/easy to trick
his ultimate goal is to one day pay out his favorite studios to animate the princess buko movie with himself voicing a self-insert side character according to his own script. or to buy out a comiket

♡ A guide to emo, goth, and scene! ♡
So since I see a lot of confusion over certain subcultures are and the differences between them, I thought I would make somewhat of a master post basically outlining the characteristics and differences of three aesthetics that I see misinterpreted a lot. If I do at any point get something wrong, feel free to correct me because I really don't intend to spread misinformation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
🎀 Emo
Emo is a music based subculture that first emerged in the 80s out of the hardcore scene. The name emo came from the music genre emocore, which was short for emotional hardcore. The fashion is typically pretty casual, with some staples being straightened and teased hair with a sideways fringe, black clothing, band shirts, arm warmers, sneakers, skinny jeans, fishnets, arm warmers, wide leg pants, studded belts, and merchandise from various properties like Emily The Strange, Nightmare Before Christmas, and Ruby Gloom.
Since the early days of emo, the music in the subculture has expanded outside of hardcore and post-hardcore, and has since gone on to include alternative rock, horror punk, metalcore, pop punk, and screamo. Some of the most prominent artists in the scene are Avril Lavigne, Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Panic! at the Disco, Paramore, Pierce The Veil, and Sleeping With Sirens.
Since the subculture is mainly music based, fashion is not as important to being considered part of the scene. Therefore, not dressing in a specific way while listening to the music wouldn't make you a poser, but dressing emo while not listening to the music would. What is not considered emo is listening to a random genre of rock music. Bands like Metallica and Nirvana, while enjoyed by many emos, are not emo bands and therefore don't make someone emo. Furthermore, I can't believe I need to say this, but, contrary to what many people seem to think, kawaii people are also not emo. While it is common for kawaii people to listen to metal and other heavy music genres, their style is not at all similar to emo and they don't consider themselves as part of the subculture either.
🎀 Goth
Goth is probably the oldest subculture here, with it dating back to the 70s English punk scene, with bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees and The Cure pioneering the culture. The post-punk band Bauhaus' debut single 'Bela Lugosi's Dead,' a song inspired by the famous horror actor Bela Lugosi, who portrayed Dracula in the 1931 film adaptation and also starred in White Zombie which is a film that's typically referred to as the first zombie movie, is often considered the first gothic rock song.
Goth is a subculture with many different sub-subcultures. Some of the most popular are batcave, bubble goth, cyber goth (formerly referred to as gravers), death rock, mall goth (formerly known as spooky kids), nu goth, romantic goth, steampunk, vampire goth, and, my personal favourite, gothic lolita. Contrary to what many people think, I don't consider aesthetics like pastel goth (which I do love) to really be a part of goth since it doesn't have roots in goth. Obviously I'm not going to go over every substyle because that would take way too long and would have to require its own post, but some common staples in most of these styles is lots of black, horror-inspired imagery, very big teased hair, black or red lipstick (red was the most common in the earlier days), and very pale almost white skin. Therefore, e-girls and emos (e-girls especially) are not goth. Also, the fetishisation of the 'big tiddy goth girlfriend' is very demeaning and offensive to goths, as well as just not funny at all because of how it objectifies and reduces them to simply walking breasts who wear black.
Goth music is, in my opinion, some of the most accesible and palatable alternative music. The most popular genres are dark wave, electronic rock, gothic rock, industrial metal and rock, new wave, and post-punk. Some of the most popular bands are Bauhaus, Evanescence, Joy Division, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Birthday Massacre, and The Cure.
🎀 Scene
Scene is an aesthetic that originated in the 2000s on the website MySpace as a derivative aesthetic to emo. Many scene kids were considered emo posers because of their unconventional style and the music they listened to, which included genres ranging from crunkcore to metalcore, often being considered 'trashy' by other subcultures. Despite all of the hate towards scene kids, many embraced their label and many of the most popular people in the subculture started being known as scene queens who are also often credited as the first influencers. This included people such as Ambrehhhisdead, LedaMonsterBunny, and Melissa Marie Green.
Some staples to the style are colourful clothes, straightened and teased hair with colourful raccoon hair extensions, the scene swoop fringe, brass knuckles or diamond necklaces, bows, leopard print, zebra print, colourful shorts, tutus, tight clothes, sunglasses, knee high converse, band shirts, and merchandise of characters like Gir from Invader Zim, Gloomy Bear, and Hello Kitty. Personally, I would consider the modern rendition of scene, scenecore, to be a different aesthetic that, while it is pretty similar to scene, typically borrows from aesthetics like glitchcore rather than emo or mcbling.
Scene music is pretty diverse in what it provides, as it ranges from very heavy genres such as deathcore and metalcore to more pop and rap adjacent genres like crunkcore and neon pop. Some of the most prominent artists are 3OH!3, All Time Low, Asking Alexandria, Blood on the Dance Floor (unfortunately), Bring Me The Horizon, Brokencyde, Cobra Starship, Dot Dot Curve, Jeffree Star, Ke$ha, Metro Station, and Millionaires. A lot of the music is known to ignore many of the typically conventions of music, with the lyrics often containing themes relating to partying and sex.

Do you think you could give us 5 reasons why you like Mary?
She was the first girl I made for this universe and so I love her very dearly! Everyone else wouldn't be here if it weren't for her! So I'm always happy I made her! ♡ (She too will have been made 10 years ago soon!!) ---
I'm really happy with her design! It's just really cute to me! (Which I would say because I made it, huh?) I like how was able to incorporate a little devil motif into her being a manta ray and I hope I can bring back more manta ray motifs like she had in her legacy designs in future work! (such as her manta hood!) ---
I like how she's given me more of an appreciation and motive to look into gothic subcultures especially in a fashion aspect. I've always loved the dark and spooky and gothic aesthetics but now it's really fun to look at all the little differences and styles there are from tradgoth to romantic goth to cybergoth to victorian goth to gothic lolita etc etc! (and of course her staple being babydoll goth!) ---
I like writing for her too! I don't want to say too much, but there's definitely parts of her psychology that are really interesting for me to try and work with in her writing and I like the challenges and fun scenarios she presents that way! ---
I like how drawing her always makes me feel happy and that a dark day for me can always be made a little bit brighter when there's a bit of Mary in it somewhere ♡

hi dear ! could you maybe do liu, jane and toby with a reader that collects haunted dolls ? my special interest is spirits and haunted materials so i am super interested in haunted dolls, i’d love to see some cute headcanons with a reader like that ♥︎ maybe add in some gothic lolita fashion too ? thank you ! gn reader would be fine .
Homicidal Liu, Jane the Killer and Ticci Toby with gothic lolita reader that collects haunted dolls!
➥ Hi hun!! Its such a cool idea!! I kinda mixed it up together so hope its still fine!! Take care!!!
Tumblr media
˚ ✦ . .   ˚₊‧꒰ა ☆ ໒꒱ ‧₊˚ . . ✦ ˚
Homicidal Liu
Liu is pretty open-minded person, like he is just glad you got somethig you are interested in!! Haunted dolls? Oh okay, he didnt expected that..isnt it a bit creepy? But even if he has no idea what is going on then he would love to hear you talk to him about your special interest!! Like come on!! He wants to hear everything, do they have names? Can you talk with them? ..Why are they haunted in the first place..? Introduce them to him!! Your eyes lit up in pretty way so he wants you to keep talking (plus he is obv interested!!). Liu isnt really scared, just a bit distant at first. Give him some time, and he will even take care of them if you couldnt be with them!
About your fashion sense, you are absolutely mesmerezing to him! Boy could stare at you for hours but that would propably be too creepy. Even if his fashion sense is pretty basic, Liu would totally let you dress him up!! He won't match your fashion sense at daily basis, but enjoys you making him look all pretty and he just loves spending more time with you! That way he can actually feel why you like to wear what you wear! Absolutely adores how well aesthetically you match to your interests.
Jane the Killer
Oh i feel like she would actually be into all this creepy, unsettling stuff! Horror movies, urban legends and of course haunted dolls! You are perfect match tbh. Jane is obviously curious about your collection, its impressive and she just love hearing you talking!! Like she would literally look at you with this sweet and caring gaze, maybe even holding you on her lap and caress your hair as you just spare informations with her! Treats your dolls with respect, and likes to keep them clean and safe (but if you dont feel comfy with letting other people touching you collections then she is more than fine too!), she is anything but scared!
I just love, love the idea of Jane being goth. Maybe a victorian one or romantic? Please it fits her soooo well! Yeah but thats just me saying silly things. So with your gothic lolita fashion, you match pretty well! You both will look amazing and you are this great looking couple whenewer you show up anywhere Would also like to try your style just for fun and do the same for you!!
Ticci Toby
Toby is scared and interested all at once!! Loves hearing you talking but would be scared to sleep at night.. better not leave him alone with them. He propably starts to remember all horror movies about haunted dolls and is scared for his life that they would kill him.. Just reassure him that its nothing like that and as the time pass by he will have more friendy attitude. But even tho he is scared, then he doesnt mind your passion at all! Whatever makes his partner happy!
You are like this overdressed partner x causal bf duo!! You dress so cool and there is Toby with his old and pilled sweater. I think that he would be even intimidate by your look at first, he would be shy too even look at you. Also, he would be happy to try some of your clothes (just like evryone here..) but he definitely prefer his cozy sweaters. Toby really likes to watch you getting ready when you are going somewhere, hair, make up or just choosing outfit..he cant look away! He isnt also the type of bf to get mad for waiting at you long time, so take as much time as you need!

J-Fashion Terms for Beginners 3: Electric Boogaloo
Tumblr media
Angura Kei: A Visual Kei substyle inspired by traditional Japanese underground theater performances (Angura = Underground), but it is occasionally associated with Ero-Guro Visual Kei bands. People who wear Angura typically wear traditional Japanese clothing such as kimonos, military uniforms, and school uniforms (seifukus and gakurans usually) but with a gothic twist or references to the supernatural (such as those triangle handkerchiefs worn by ghosts in Japanese folklore). It isn't uncommon to see them wear shironuri makeup as that was worn by Angura actors during the 1960s and 1970s. From what I've seen, Angura isn't typically a style one wears day to day due to its over the top and elaborate nature. Some known Angura Kei bands are: MUCC, cali≠gari (though they are more known for Ero-Guro), Zombie Lolita and Inugami Circus-dan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
A truly theatrical blast from the past...
Tumblr media
Erokawa: Translates as "erotic cute", this aesthetic and style is also known as Erokakkoi (translates as "erotic cool"). Erokawa contrasts most kawaii trends by incorporating the concepts of sexiness seen in the West. While it is mostly a "visual art" type of kawaii style, I have seen outfits that do match this style; they tend to be mainly pastel clothes styled after lingerie, actual lingerie, clothes that share elements with Agejo Gyaru, shirts with sexy kawaii girls on them, or just your typical "tight sexy outfit with references to kawaii culture or ecchi on it. For accessories you'll see chokers, leg garters, handcuffs, harnesses and occasionally cat ears. The idea of cuteness is associated with neoteny, fragility, innocence and youthfulness; the idea of sexiness is associated with adulthood, experience, excitement and maturity. Sexiness can technically be seen as what cuteness is meant to evolve into once we all turn from children to adults. But Japan is famous for loving everything that can be considered "cute" and not approving of "non-cute" things unless they are made "cuter" for mainstream media, and yes...this partially includes sexuality that is natural for adult women to have. Enter famous Japanese Idol, Kumi Koda. Unlike most idols who's contractual purity is stricter than a Disney Channel star's, Kumi broke the mold by taking erotic elements in her artistic style and showing how they too can be seen as valid and acceptable. In contrast to other "sexy" kawaii trends, Erokawa was created with feminism and for women to take ownership of their sexuality.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's get sexy~...and adorable!
Tumblr media
Ero-Guro Kei: If one thinks of Visual Kei they are most likely thinking of one of these subgenres and styles; Kote Kei (means "old school kei", this is basically how Visual Kei bands dressed in the 90s), Tanbi Kei (means "aeshetic school", this style is inspired by classic European fashion), or Ero-Guro Kei, the style we're discussing here. In case the name didn't give it away already, Ero-Guro Kei basically means "erotic" and "grotesque". As described by the website TV Tropes, this style is meant to be an Interplay of Sex and Violence. Most Ero-Guro Kei bandmembers tend to wear clothes similar to Kote Kei, but with more exposed skin (i.e. not wearing a shirt or wearing a low-cut one) and tons of S&M/bondage or fetish elements like chokers, corsets, harnesses, leather and lace or mesh worn together and masquerade masks. Despite this, for most people the "Ero-Guro" part in Ero-Guro Kei usually comes from the vulgar and raunchy lyrics in their songs coupled with horrifying music videos. Some famous Ero-Guro Kei bands include but are not limited to: cali≠gari, Dir En Grey (during their earlier albums), Kagerou and ANTI-KRANKE.

Hot take, I guess: I don't really think that Bella Goth and her story belong to the world of the Goth family as they are.
I am speaking only based on my personal preferences and understanding of the sims lore so I can be wrong about details.
In short, I kinda dislike the Sims 2 lore despite it being iconic for two particular reasons: aliens and unnecessary cynicism. First I just don't vibe with, I am more on the gothic side with ghosts, vampires and witches, but that's the matter of taste. Second, however, is just bad, in my opinion, cause making complex characters doesn't mean making horrible characters. To quote the wise one,
Tumblr media
And, to return to my point, Goth family of The Sims 2 is the victim of both problems for me. Aliens aren't fucking gothic, what else can I say? You have the character based on iconic Morticia Addams with witchy gothic vibes, and yet you have decided that the appropriate lore addition about her is the alien abduction, completely ruining the whole gothicity. But that's me issue, I don't like the whole futuristic vibe so whatever. Lore in Sims 3, however, for the same vibe reason, I do appreciate, the mystery of Lolita Goth is very appropriate for the family imo.
What I can not forgive and why I don't like this story is the second reason. Cynical bullshit about Mortimer and his new relationship with Dina Caliente makes me ill, the character based on Gomes fucking Addams who would find joy in the both killing and dying for his love, finds another one barely grieving his wife disappearance, have you fucking lost your mind?
I do understand that Goths are not Addams, and their lore and vibes are different. However, if you find inspiration in a certain style with certain motives, neglecting this style instead of developing and expanding it means that the original source of inspiration really means nothing and Goth family could've been based on whatever other popular family that people can recognize. Of course, the creator might've wanted to make a certain contrast: alien futurism with sci-fi cynicism against gothic fantasy with family values. If so, I don't think they really succeed in presenting this contrast, the whole Bella disappearance story is all about the first one.
Unfortunately, the success of the sims 2 lore has completely killed any chance to actually give Bella any personality outside of the family-oriented Sim, I guess, and therefore the very her character associates with nothing but true crime story. And that's why I don't like her as a member of Goth family, not because of who she is, but because of what she represents to me — neglect of the original old money macabre family, obsessed with death and his aesthetics.
P.S. It's only my opinions and explanation of why I don't like the story, if you like it, good for you, find joy in whatever you can.

MEET MORIA (yes another one)(probably not the last one :3 not sorry) as always lore ramble and flag under the cut
Tumblr media
Moria island, formerly Machida island, is a japanese micronation that's been around since the 1700s. She's owned by a rich japanese family who's always loved Europe and its aesthetics, trying to immitate it themselves by building european style buildings and garden on their island and by dressing in a somewhat european way.
Tumblr media
The latest queen of the island, Setsuko Machida, is a loita gothic fashion influencer whose aesthetic is different from the regular lolita gothic stuff because she takes more inspiration from old european styles. She's renamed the island to "Moria island" which is supposed to be a mix of Mori and the name Maria which are both words in her online username.
Setsuko wanted to make contact with some european micronations because she thought it would be really cool to have some european friends, so after looking up some and finding that Welland is usually friendly to any micronations who try to interact with them, she just announced on social medias that she was now allied with Welland without consulting either Welland himself or his boss. When the boss out out about it, he just accepted it cause... well why not. When he went to tell Welland, he found him missing.
Because Moria had kidnapped him and brought him over to her place, this is how you make friends, source: trust me bro. Welland however has a few screws loose (he's a kirkland after all) and instead of panicking or being surprised he just accepted to befriend her and spent some quality time at her tea party. There aren't many pictures of Welland online and Moria didn't imagine him to be a silly farmer, she had something more refined and elegant in mind, but you can't be picky about who you befriend i guess? i won't go into their relationship too much, maybe in a future post, but they eventually date :3
Moria loves anything european just because it's european, but she also doesn't care to be accurate with her aesthetics. At first she only befriends Welland and other european micronations just for the novelty of having european friends, but eventually she does start viewing them and loving them for who they are and not where they're from.
Moria likes to assign titles like "duke", "baroness" and "sir" to people based on how she views them, Stomaria gets no title he's just Stomaria cause fuck him am i right?
that's all i can think of rn

Assigning PJSK characters an alternative subculture!
One of my biggest interests are alternative subcultures so it's time to assign some to the PJSK ocs! Feel free to reply with your own thoughts and headcanons.
Firstly, let's get the characters who are already implied to be in certain subcultures out of the way. Notably Saki and Mizuki. As we're all aware of, Saki is implied to be a gyaru and Mizuki is definitely in the lolita/ouji subculture.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Saki would a Kogal/Kogyaru since her outfits reflects the kogal style like the cards above! I also like to think that if ColoPale weren't cowards, her everyday outfits and makeup would feature the Ganguro style. Though Mizuki has many cards that depict them in different kinds of lolita/ouji fashion (such as gothic ouji and sweet lolita) I personally don't think they have a fixed aesthetic and simply just sew/buy whatever looks cute. (And trained cards don't exactly reflect what the PJSK ocs would wear in the canonical universe.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now that we've done a quick run down on the already alternative PJSK ocs, it's time to assign subcultures!
To summarize, I believe that:
L/N: Ichika - Grunge, Saki - Ganguro, Honami - Mori Kei, Shiho - Heavy metal
MMJ: Airi - Himegyaru, Shizuku - Mori Kei (For Minori and Haruka, I'm genuinely unsure...)
VBS: Hip-hop
WXS: Tsukasa - Goth (surprise!), Emu - Decora, Nene - Cybergoth/Cyberpunk, Rui - Scene (duh)
N25: Kanade is the type of musician to know what every alternative subculture's music sounds like purely for composing purposes, Mafuyu: Hardcore Punk, Ena: Jirai Kei who indulges in Riot GRRRL music, Mizuki: Unfixed Lolita/Ouji
Further elaboration under the cut because some of these are far-fetched. (Goth Tsukasa is real, I promise)
About Ichika: I know that Punk is often looked down upon by guitarists because it's sloppy and often doesn't involve proper music theory and Grunge is influenced by Hardcore Punk so why would Ichika be that. My answer is: Kurt Cobain flannel.
Tumblr media
About Tsukasa: Tsukasa is a jazz/classical music type of guy. However, please consider Tsukasa admiring Post-punk vocals (specifically Siouxsie's) and how goth music's lyrics are beautiful and poetic. Imagine him writing show scripts to ethereal wave music. Tsukasa probably wrote the Romeo and Juliet script while listening to deathrock. He is a romantic/ethereal goth and you cannot convince me otherwise.
About Rui: JUST! LOOK AT HIM! That man is a scene guy.
About Mafuyu: She needs to let her inner rage out so I assigned her hardcore punk for that reason. Just imagine her aggressively strumming one of Kanade's guitars.

Goth and It's Subcultures
A subculture is often associated with subgenres of music. Subcultures are built around the beliefs and political views of a group of people who share an interest in the same thing. A subculture is a smaller and more specific group of a culture for example Goth, Punk, Metalheads, Hip Hoppers, Hipsters, etc. In this I will be talking more about the Goth based ones.
Disclaimer, I myself am not Goth, I do enjoy the music, but I just don't consider myself Goth. However, I absolutely adore the style, sound, and history of it all. So of course, if you are actually Goth or there is something in here, I got incorrect, please let me know! This does not include every subculture but instead my favorites and the ones I’ve done the most research on. Victorian Goth, Bubble Goth, Deathrock, Gothic Lolita, Nu goth, and I’m sure a few others are all the subcultures I haven't wrote about/done enough research about yet.
Goth itself was inspired by Punk fashion, the Punk movement beginning mid 70s and Goth rising and gaining popularity from mid 70s-80s. Not only inspired by Punk but also; gothic literature, horror films, vampirism, religious imagery, Catholicism, and Egyptian mythology which is where the common and famous ankh cross comes from, often seen in Goth fashion as belts, earrings, necklaces, etc.  Goth, especially traditional and romantic, often uses dark metaphors for beautiful things, such as cannibalism for love, death for eternity and peace, decaying for passage of time, shadows for mystery, hunger for desire, I could easily go on. Yes, fashion can be a big part of it, but beliefs are more important. Even if you're a Baby Bat or don’t/can’t dress Goth as long as you aren’t a bigoted fuck and enjoy the music, you’re perfectly fine.
It's common for subcultures to take inspiration from others or blend them together. For example, a subgenre Riot Goth coined by Jessicka from Jack Off Jill was invented in the 90s. It took the sound of Goth Metal and combined it with the lyricism and topics of Riot Grrrl, a Punk subgenre focused on the feminist movement.
Tumblr media
The Traditional Goth look is in my opinion a mix of Victorian and the New Wave look, think David Bowie, but in darker or all black colors. Messy/Bats nest hair, and androgynous clothing, a common look in plenty of subcultures. No dividing by gender but instead simply style. Often paired with ankh, silver jewelry, rosaries, or occultish jewelry as well.
Romantic Goth, very similar to traditional but more deep reds, maroons, purples, and such. Most of the time with a more feminine look fishnets, lace, corsets, gloves, long flowy skirts, and leather is Romantic Goth. Despite the feminine look being more common for the Romantic Goths that isn't to say men can’t dress that way either often in blouses, cravats, ascots, vests, tailcoats, and trousers. The Romantic Goth definitely plays more into the vampiric look
Another is Mall Goth which took fashion from the Gothic cultures and subgenres from Metalheads and specifically Industrial Metal, Nu Metal, and even some Emo. Mall Goths are called that from their Hot Topic style from the 90s-2000s they were more of Metalheads who dressed Goth for the aesthetic it's often blamed for the death of Trad Goth and the commercialization of Goth.
Industrial Goth was all about the dystopian look and sound, with futuristic style and electronic music. Often seen in tactical gear with a tech inspired look. Very similar to Cybergoth but instead of bright colors and Raver inspired clothing it's more about the tech look, of course metallics and such are still being used along with platforms. A big difference between Cyberpunks and Industrial Goths is that while Cyberpunk is about being anti establishment, how high tech and low life the future seems. While Industrial Goth is more about romanticizing/accepting the mechanical and techy aspects of industrialization, and dehumanization of the dystopian society.
Then Cybergoth sometimes mixed up Industrial Goth, a similar fashion concept all black with pops of color but Cybergoth takes it to the next level mixing it with raver clothes/culture often with brightly colored hair/hair extensions as well as colorful steampunk looking goggles and masks. Often called Gravers(Goth Ravers) seen in pvc, reflective fabrics, neons, and platforms. These Gravers took inspiration from Cyberpunk, Rave, and Goth fashion/culture.
Another one of my favorites is Gothabilly, combining the fashion and sound of Rockabilly but adding a Gothic twist. The subgenre made most popular by The Cramps and Skully Records in the 90s. The style is very similar to Rockabilly focusing on reds, purples, blacks and occasionally whites. Polka dots, plaids, checkers, cherry prints, swing dresses, leather jackets, bandanas, vintage style sunglasses, combat boots or platform heels. Men with very 50s style hair typically slicked back black hair with streaks of color occasionally.

I love the idea of jade in a maid dress! Definitely feel like long skirts fit him more too, I feel like Floyd would wear a shorter skirt with a maid dress. Bit nsfw, of the twst cast who would wear a more slutty maid dress and who would wear more modest ones? (Sorry if this doesn’t make sense English is not my first language)
Funny part about it is that Floyd would wear a short skirted maid outfit not to be sexy but because it's easier to move in. His boxers would show and they clearly don't match the maid outfit. Let's see, let's see.
Alright, so Rook is of the unique variety where, no matter the length of the maid outfit's skirt, he'd always make it feel slutty one way or another. That's just within his power. Oh and obviously he's not wearing anything under.
Vil would 100% wear a maid outfit with a long skirt. He needs to be classy, but his main focus would probably be what goes on under that skirt. Wouldn't shock me if he prepared lingerie under all that fancy wear.
Leona... yeah no, he cannot make it sexy. He's the kind of man that wears the short skirted maid outfit, but refuses to take off his pants. You want to see up his skirt, you have to work for it. That's if he's in the mood.
Malleus is another maid with the long skirt and long sleeves. He has little clue in maid play and actually ends up cleaning your things because he gets too into the zone. He will break things though. Really gotta walk through the steps of what's fun for you because if you point him in one direction, he will march nonstop towards it.
Azul I feel would be another long skirted individual, with the maid dress being real puffy. Lots of ruffles all around. Looks real warm to wear in the winter time.
Epel I think would go for the mid route and have a knee-length skirt. Doesn't want his underwear to show, but also doesn't want it to be too long. He'll trip over it! Also Vil would make him wear that frilly headdress that comes with the maid outfit.
Riddle's maid outfit would be above the knees that's because he's always so busy. He's real flustered about wearing one, obviously, but eventually ends up forgetting he's wearing one at all if he's busy enough. It's funny to remind him that wearing the thing and watch him turn red all over again.
Ace and Deuce both wear short skirts. Depending on their mood and what they're feeling, Ace will probably go all out and wear those thigh high socks with garter belts just to mess with the onlooker, while Deuce goes for a more sweet route and wears ankle socks and cute mary janes shoes. Both are wearing briefs.
Jack, at first, wears the shorter skirt for ease of movement, but ends up switching to a thin long skirt instead. But the sleeves must be short. Does not want long sleeves. He thinks he doesn't fit this style at all, being so big and buff. So he always ends up looking grumpy and embarrassed.
Idia's a long skirt wearer and will be mumbling about the aesthetics of the maid outfit under his breath and how it has to be this specific way because short skirts are for the degenerates that do not appreciate the classics. You know, classic "I'm better than the rest of you normies, because if I'm not, I literally have nothing." Idia.
Lilia... short skirt as his present version, long skirt for his General days. Lilia would wear those huge chunky gothic lolita shoes even though he likes to float half the time. Would do some stylish rips in the apron and probably add a little color here and there.
Silver is a long skirted one, long sleeves too. Has an overly decorative headdress that's basically a bonnet. Does not suit him. Clearly made by Lilia with whatever flowers he found, yarn that he found nice, and colorful glittery streamers and bedazzled as well. Silver got the multi-layered skirt purely because it's comfy.
Sebek's is also long, but he got it a little too long so he ends up ripping it or tripping over it as a result, especially when he gets into another Malleus rant. He walks so stiffly too, which does not help his balance.

not my favorite but i've been thinking so hard about what their casual outfits would look like and simply had to get it out there :3 (ramblings on the fashion choices below)
from the start i wanted the cashier to have some kind of goth or goth adjacent style. initially i was thinking about gothic lolita for her but the more i thought about it i was like Hold On Now. all these intricate dresses i was looking at look very expensive. can someone working fast food actually afford that??? probably not. i was Considering vkei but then i stumbled upon karasu zoku and i feel like it fits her (not that there's Anything At All to work with lol). i thought it'd be cute to give her a leather jacket and long skirt that are two different shades of black (a struggle too real)
i knew for sure that i wanted chika to wear decora. i only have so much patience for little details so i went with shinora since it's adjacent to it, more accurate to the time period, and more toned down in comparison (less sanity loss for me!!!).
i wanted to keep chika's hairstyle similar to how she normally wears it and i feel like the middle point between the two buns tomoe shinohara would wear and the two braids chika usually has is loop braids (and also it looks super cute). i didn't give her as many accessories as i defintiely should have but alas, i would like to be sane during something that i didn't intend to spend more than like three hours on. i felt like the feathers fit with the style so i keep one of the defining parts of her usual design.
it also was my goal to make their styles contrast each other and i felt like i definitely achieved that with super colorful and maximalist vs all black and relatively simple. i just think it's cute when two people have opposite aesthetics lol
anyway here's quick doodles from when i was brainstorming outfits and went with these :)
