HI DEX I hope you've been well!! I see you've been Jack posting a lot and I haven't seen the movie yet but I need info about your s/i or your shop lore. Or just anything!!

thank you nat! i know i havent gone into much detail but it was because i was still trying to think through things. will put it under a readmore as well bc its fairly lengthy for an ask!

my s/i is named harley! they are an artist (and i use general artist bc they often dip into a lot of different mediums for their art), and use their platform to push for social change; they gained notoriety from a very hefty anti war effort in the 60s & well into the 70s through various public demonstrations and art projects -- it's why they initially were interviewed impromptu via phone by jack sometime during '68, though back then he was still doing radio in chicago.

fast forward a few years, night owls airs for the first time in '71. within the first year or so of running, jack (who has only heard of harley's recent projects, being an ny resident themselves) asks harley back for a proper interview, this time on the show.

it goes fairly well, with high ratings solely because before this, harley mostly kept out of the public eye, their art and its messages being the centerpiece of public consumption (think banksy), and jack really only having the means to contact them at all because of that mostly-unnoticed interview a few years prior. harley agrees, hoping to get their message out to a wider audience, but beyond that, harley and him just mesh well in personality and humor, and quickly become friends.

from there, they keep in contact as casual friends, with harls helping him with some writing once in a while until after a couple years (i imagine we're into '74-75 at this point) they quietly resign to a creative co-partnership after the us pulls out of vietnam (read: harley decides to take a step back from the big outspoken antiwar efforts and focus on philanthropy for affected parties, leaving them with a lot of downtime and a lot of creative constipation) of some sort, with harls splitting their time between their own art and being around to help with jack's show.

obviously harley at this point is absolutely in love with jack, but wholly respects his marriage and never breaks those boundaries, leaving it as a one sided, unreciprocated (?) crush for quite some time. after jack's wife gets sick and dies, though, harley presents themselves as a shoulder for jack to cry on, and maybe he realizes he was always a little in love with them too, and that it wouldn't be so bad to go through the next few stages of the grieving process alone...?

so. yeah! friends to lovers, with a lot of slowburn and quite a bit of angst thrown in 🫶 theres some fun hcs i have for them (like jack calls harley "ziggy" after ziggy stardust, since their fashion sense and gender freakiness is VERY similar to bowie's act...or maybe bowie got it from them...? 👁️) but that's the basis!!

sorry it is so long i just have been thinking abouy them nonstop for quite a few days now ❤️ i would LOVE to talk more abt harley and/or their relationship though so please feel free to ask anything else !!

He watched her from the doorway, gray sweatpants on, a white tee stretched on his shoulders and a pleased little smile on his face as Beatrice busied herself by heating up their dinner. He allowed his eyes to drop towards the fullness of her ass and the way those pants hugged the curve beautifully.

He tilted his head to the side, furrowing his brows, was her ass a bit bigger? Not that he’d complain if it was because he loved her butt, but he couldn’t help but look at it for a while longer. She did become curvier after having Nikki,which he also couldn’t complain about, she looked like those Roman goddesses of old with that banging body of hers.

But he just looked for a little while, then tilted his head the other way, smirking when he could see the line of her thong underneath the fabric, “Is that red?”

“Huh?”

He nods towards her behind,”Is it red?”

Beatrice furrowed her brows in confusion, then looked down at herself thinking there was some stain or maybe she got her period and wasn’t prepared for it, until she saw the sliver of red peeking from under her pants and laughed, “Oh, well, yeah,yeah it is.” she giggles, pulling her pants a little bit higher, “It’s very comfortable.’

“It looks comfortable.” he adds, stepping closer to her so he could hug her from behind, kissing underneath her ear and smiling when she leaned against him, “And it looks great to take it off too.”

“Roos…”

“Not my fault my wife is hot.” he replies,kissing her jawline with his arms holding her tighter against his chest, “What are you heating up?”

“Some of the leftovers from last night: chicken alfredo and some garlic cheese bread my mom brought over. It’s fresh and I’m just heating it up for the crunch.” she explains, letting his lips touch her skin and grin when she felt the mustache tickle her neck,”You are very touchy tonight.”

“Am I?”

“Yes, you are.” she turns her head towards him,”Not that I’m complaining,I love when you get touchy.”

“I know you do.” he nuzzles her neck, inhaling the lavender scent and smirking when she giggled over his touch, “I love getting touchy with you…and I don’t think I have a reason tonight,maybe I’m just happy with how everything is going.” he begins, watching her stir the fettuccine in the pot and hearing Nicole babble from her bouncer not too far from them,” I have a really good life,baby. And I’m happy…I’m happy with you,with Nikki,with the dogs.” his hands slid down to her stomach, “And for whatever kids come after our baby girl,I swear.”

Beatrice had to clench the spoon when he mentioned that, immediately panicking thinking he saw the tests.

But he didn’t say anything,he just nuzzled even closer to her, humming deep in his chest and inhaling her scent once more, “I’m so happy to hear that Roos.” his thumb rubbed circles on her stomach and she tried to relax a bit more, he didn’t know why she was nervous so there was no reason to give that worry any more thought.

He stood there, behind her, hugging her close and smiling with his eyes closed as she moved around the stove and she bit her lower lip, his hands were almost protecting her stomach.  He didn’t know…but maybe he should.

She shouldn’t hide things from Rooster, that’s not how they relationship was.

But she was nervous and scared…so maybe, later, later they could talk about it.

“Baby.” his deep voice murmurs on her neck, face slowly lifting to press kisses to her cheek,”You look worried.”

“I don’t want to burn this.” she lies quickly, turning off the stove once she sees it bubbling and blinking down at the pot,”Yeah,I don’t want to burn this.”

Rooster hummed against her neck, his hands only moving now that she turned the stove off and there was no heat directed to her middle. Beatrice smiles as she feels them dragging away from her body, giggling at the love tap he gives each buttcheek before he steps back and kisses her nape,”I’m going to put Nikki up.” he says, bare feet touching the tiled floor as he approaches their daughter.

Beatrice looks over with her eyes soft, seeing how he gently picked their little girl up - always lifting her higher than his own height, just to make her giggle and make her feel like she’s flying- then bringing her down to kiss those chubby cheeks and earn the cutest,most lovely giggle a baby could give.

He was a good father.

A wonderful husband.

She was just scared….for some reason. Mainly the guilt, mainly the guilt of being pregnant so soon. Wanting or not, it was her responsibility, she told him it was okay, there was no need to worry about condoms or anything of the sort, she was taking care of herself.

She looks down at her navel, trying to once again see if there was any difference and of course there wasn’t, she still had her rolls and nothing else. Her pants were still comfortable and not tight at all. She sighed, rubbing her face with both hands before checking on the rest of her dinner.

She was so focused on herself she hadn’t seen Rooster watching, which he always did, he loved to watch her. His brown eyes following the way her green ones seemed to wander off to the side - a telltale sign of her own overthinking - and her eyebrows were low and the frown she wasn’t aware of was more prominent.

He wasn’t sure what was going on in her mind, he thought that it was a good day - after all she spent more of it out and about with Nicole and Shells. But he knew Beatrice way too well by now - four years together does that - and he knew when she was thinking too much, possibly blaming herself for something she had no control over.

“Baby,I can set everything up for dinner.” he says after Nicole is on her seat, babbling and slapping her little hands on the tray repeatedly,”You can stay with Nikki.”

“Oh,but I can-” he cuts her off by kissing her lips, her body relaxing and eyes fluttering because he had that power over her, when he pulls back with the softest smacking sound Beatrice only stared up at him with her pupils wide, “...okay…”

He smirks, stepping aside to let her pass - not before slapping her ass on the way - so he could take over for her. He still watched her before she sat down next to Nicole, their baby girl squealing happily once she noticed her mother was there now. “So.” he begins, opening the stove to check on their chicken and garlic bread, “How was your day? With Shells?”

He hears the ‘pop!’ of the baby food opening and Beatrice’s reply soon after, “Oh it was fine, we uh, had to buy some stuff for her. She always forgets to buy the simplest stuff.”

‘Yeah,I know,gorgeous…anything else happened?”

“Um…” he smiles when he hears Nicole’s ‘om nom nom’ - she genuinely makes that sound and he didn’t know how to react sometimes, their daughter was too precious - “No? I mean,we had ice cream and Nicole tried to get a bite but she can’t have milk until she’s older,I’m sorry Nikki.”

“Baah!”

“I know, it’s unfair.”

Rooster places the steaming chicken in the middle of their table with the garlic bread right next to it, licking his finger when some of the sauce clings on it, “Anything else?”

Beatrice flicks her gaze towards him - he could see the layer of nervousness already taking over, something did happen but she wasn’t ready to share with him yet- “No…not really. We just…had fun together, oh! Well,there was an accident with a Lamborghini when we left the grocery store and the guy was pissed and the cops were called. I think it even showed on TV, Shells saw the cameras,I didn’t.”

“Hmhm.”

“What?”

He purses his lips, leaning down to kiss her temple,”When you feel ready,” he begins,”To share with me what’s bothering you, you know you can.”

And she looked so guilty that he almost retracted his statement. Her eyes were wide and her lips parted, she was holding the spoon - now empty - close to Nicole’s mouth but her daughter’s little burbling and laughing only made her notice there was nothing there…at all, “...I…”

“Baby,” he says, warmly and so kind, “Baby, when you are ready. Don’t force it out yet, okay?”

“...okay,Roos.”

“Good,I love you pretty girl.” 

“I love you too.” 

He kissed her forehead before placing everything on the table, sitting down next to Beatrice and holding her hand once he was close enough.

She managed to grab her bag late that night - it took some squeezing and moving her hand under the couch,even some help from Jolene.- But she got it. She was in the dark,using only her phone as a source of light because Rooster was upstairs, in their bedroom and Beatrice used the excuse of needing a glass of water to get out of bed.

He was already half asleep and she thought…even if he said she could, she was still nervous. But she trusted him, but she also was nervous…but she loved him…

But she was nervous.

“This is so stupid.” she muttered, standing from her kneeling position with her bag held tightly against her chest, “This is so dumb, oh my God,I should just tell him.” she hoped her whispers weren’t that loud as she made her way up the stairs, saying goodbye to Jolene when she settled on the couch.

The light in their bedroom was still on, he kept it that way so she wouldn’t fumble around in the dark - god he was so sweet. She peeked inside for a second, blinking when she saw his bare back looking at her, rising and falling with the gentlest of snores breaking the silence in their bedroom, “...okay.” she carefully walked inside, setting the bag in the chair and carefully opening it.

She bites her lower lip, keeping an eye on him at every little noise she makes, managing to grab the three pregnancy tests with her teeth clenched. The boxes rubbed against one another and it was…unbelievably loud, but her husband didn’t wake up.

“If he does he’ll understand.” she whispers to herself, her eyes kept looking back at him to make sure he was still asleep.

Beatrice chews her lower lip, carefully patting over to the bathroom and shutting the door quietly behind her. She splayed the pregnancy tests in front of her and chewed the side of her thumb repeatedly, looking down at the three boxes as if it was the end of the world.

Do it,bambina, you know he won’t be mad.He loves you.

“And I love him.” she replies to her own thoughts, still looking down at the tests, turning one of the boxes back and forth before sighing heavily. She paces a bit in the bathroom, holding her temples, her night shirt smelling like him and normally it’d make her calm down but she couldn’t.

“Okay,” she stops,closing her eyes and tenting her hands, “Let’s…explain why I’m so nervous about this.” she inhales, pressing her fingers against her lips, “Why am i so scared? Let’s find reasons for it, because there is a reason, there’s always a reason.” Beatrice goes back to pacing, eyes still closed as she tries to find the words.

“First of: Nicole is young. She’s six months old, we planned more kids but only when Nikki was older.” she mutters, furrowing her brows, “Secondly: I was responsible for keeping up with my birth control, not Rooster. The reason I might be pregnant again has to be because I messed up and since I know myself,I’m already blaming every single second out of it.” she sighs again, rubbing her face, “Third: his job, he’s already stressed enough with Nicole, having more kids now it’s only going to make him more worried and so that can make him lose focus- okay that’s a lie, he’d never lose focus because of that…”

Beatrice frowned, “I think the first two make more sense.” she murmured, sighing heavily and leaning against the wall,sliding to the floor and thunking her head against the wall, interlacing her fingers between her thighs. She could see one of the boxes peeking over the edge of the sink, she knew she had to do it…but she was also scared, extremely so.

She was already blaming herself, she already had her own doubts…and yet she knew she had to do this.

“I’m going to.” she couldn’t wait for the holidays any longer too, she had to do this now and get this over with. She had her eyes closed, too lost in her own thoughts to hear the sounds from the outside.

She didn’t hear Rooster’s sleepy tone calling her name, nor heard his footsteps approaching the door, nor the knocking. Her husband stood outside, still blinking hard because of sleep and confused as to why she wasn’t answering, knocking one more time before asking if he could get inside.

Again, no answer.

And when there was no answer, Rooster’s mind went to the worst scenarios.

Again he says her name, this time turning the knob and wincing over the fluorescent lights above his head, “Jesus-Baby?”

“R-Rooster!”

He finally sees her, on the floor, quickly trying to pull herself upwards and almost lunging at the sink, in fact she did lunge at the sink, covering part of it with her upper body. He just blinked, still trying to understand what was going on, then rubbed his eyes with a tired grunt,’What’s happening?” he asks, trying to figure out why his wife was almost climbing on the sink.

Beatrice’s voice is gone but she tries to speak only for her mouth to open and close.While trying to adjust herself on the sink, she hears it.

A paper thud hitting the floor.

And both pairs of eyes slowly turn to the sound. The very large, very pink ‘PREGNANCY TEST’ looks back at them. She clenches her eyelids, only to open her eyes when she hears nothing but Rooster’s breathing, he’s still looking at the box, clearly confused, a mix of sleep and bewilderment in his face. ‘R-Roos.” she doesn’t stop him when he leans down to pick it up, holding it in his hands.

He turns the box once, then twice, then three times. Then rubs his eyes, blinks, and leans his head closer, “...is this…a pregnancy test or am I dreaming?”

“I…” she licks her lips, laughing nervously, “It’s… actually three.” she leans back from the sink to expose the other two boxes.

She clenches her hands tight enough for the knuckles to turn white, waiting for his reaction. Something, anything.

Rooster is still staring at the boxes, his eyes slowly focusing on her and she could see those brown irises becoming more alert, “...why do you have three pregnancy tests?” he was still sleepy, she knew that, because his voice was still slurred.

“I…” she rubs her hands, “I…didn’t get my period…and…and I’m feeling kinda sick…so…I-I think,I thought it’d be good to test it.”

“But…aren’t you on birth control shots?”

She tried not to wince, he wasn’t being accusatory, he was just curious when he asked her that, “...Yes,I mean,I…I am but,it could fail…I think.”

And silence fills the bathroom again. She’s not looking at him, too embarrassed and scared to, so she had to speak to cover up the sudden shame that was covering her right now, “I know it’s crazy,I know it is Roos. But it’s just to be sure. T-That’s all,I don’t really think I am but y-you know–”

“Baby.” he stops her rambling when he touches her shoulder, setting the box aside. She slowly looks up at him, seeing those whisky colored eyes looking down at her with the gentlest smile on his face, “Baby,it’s okay.”

“It is?”

‘I mean, it’s not what I expected to wake up to.” he laughs, “But it’s better than thinking you were sick or hurt.”

Her cheeks flushed when he said that and she leaned on his touch as soon as his hand cupped her cheek, rubbing under her eyelid with such a gentle brush she almost didn’t feel it, “I guess so…I…how do you– are you okay with this?”

He flicks his gaze to the tests, then back at her, “...honestly,I’m still thinking I’m dreaming.” he laughs again, “But…if you are wondering if I’m okay with more kids…you know I am.”

“But…it’s so soon Roos,if I am–”

Do you view Gary/Ef as a 'fanfic' ship? Like... for me, Augus/Gwyn, Eran/Mosk, all the canon FT ships... whenever you wrote a different setup with them, I loved it, but I was sort of aware that it was a fannish thing. But somehow I don't get the feel here? Like I know Arden/Ef came first, but Gary/Ef feels just as canon, if that makes sense? Maybe bc the Rainbow verse is so fleshed out, idk, but I thought it was interesting and I'm curious how you feel abt it XD

Hi hi anon!

This one's complex, so I'm gonna try and explain how I think about it as clearly as possible.

To me, everything I write that's set in my own world with my own main characters is original fiction.

That includes the alternate universes, because those alt universes are canon within those universes. So what happens in The Wildness Within isn't canon for the main universe, but it's certainly canon to TWW, and not only that, but about 70% of the extra character details are canon to the main universe, they're just things I couldn't share there, for whatever reason.

On the other hand, if someone else wrote an FT story, it wouldn't be canon to anything at all, except for like, their own story.

I think of many of the Fae Tales AUs as being fannish in nature (they're serials, they go up on AO3, I'm pro transformative works, they show characters in different or new scenarios etc.), but to me they're still original fiction. I've never seen a single AU that I've written as a 'fanfic' ship, no matter how connected it is to the original canon (like The Nascent Diplomat and The Wildness Within which I think we can say are probably the closest to the original world, and the original canon).

However, when it comes to almost complete departures, where characters like Efnisien become almost unrecognisable compared to his original counterpart, I think of those as new worlds. For example, I almost never tag any of Underline the Black with 'fae tales AU' anymore, because it doesn't really mean anything. It's not helpful to newcomers. It's not useful.

Most of the cast never appeared in the canon. (This was also true for the main cast of Falling Falling Stars sans Efnisien - Arden, Gary, Kadek were all newcomers; for me, if a story is 75% new main characters and 25% one holdover vastly AU character, that's now another canon universe lmao).

But back to Underline the Rainbow:

Kadek, Gary, Anton, Flitmouse, Caleb, Faber, Nate, Janusz are all either original characters or were developed as original characters in AUs (like Kadek). Kadek, Caleb, Faber, Kent, and more aren't AUs of anything, they're original to the story. Characters like Gary, Anton, Flitmouse, Nate, Janusz were never anywhere near the Fae Tales canon, or the early Fae Tales AUs, and to me they have nothing to do with it. Which makes classifying Underline the Rainbow as a 'Fae Tales AU' make about as much sense as classifying it as an 'FFS AU' - there's about as much crossover in the characters, after all. And not only that, but main ensemble characters more fundamental to the canon - Ash, Mosk, Eran, Julvia, Gulvi, Augus, Gwyn, either haven't made an appearance (or been mentioned once), or have only been one or two chapters out of 50+.

Proportionately, the amount of characters remaining from the original canon Fae Tales universe stands at about 10%. If you had a dog that was 90% border collie and 10% beagle, you probably wouldn't call that dog a 'beagle AU' or a 'beagle cross' - you'd probably just start calling it a border collie with a weird grandpa. Falling Falling Stars is the same to me, honestly, because so much of the core cast was original to the story, and everyone else from the original series mostly got 'cameos' if they weren't Efnisien or Gwyn. I made a conscious decision to give more weight to original characters - even side characters we don't see much - Vicki, Bridge, Han Yuen, Leo, Nate, Janusz, Teddy, Mika, Gary, Arden, Kadek, etc. The story is nothing without them.

To me, this kind of process (10% og characters remaining) separates Underline the Black out into its own universe. It has very heavy, fairly robust worldbuilding for an omegaverse story (enough that I need to use worldbuilding software to keep track of some of it). I don't need to go back to the Fae Tales canon ever to write it (which I did have to do sometimes for The Wildness Within, and have very rarely had to do for The Nascent Diplomat). I don't need to go back to the Falling Falling Stars/Spoils universe to write it. It stands fully on its own, complete and contained.

Because it has some links to Fae Tales (Efnisien + Gwyn's family mostly), it still has like... a Fae Tales flavour. And now that I've started working on like completely original world stuff in the background, there is a difference.

But yeah no, for a start I don't consider any of it fanfiction, and it's weird when people do, because it's not fanfiction if it's something the OP is doing. We don't call comics by the same comic author - that happen to be different versions of the same world - 'fanfiction.' If the Russos direct two Marvel movies focusing on two separate characters, but the first character cameos in the second in a way that retcons the character's narrative, we don't call the second movie an AU of the first, or fanfiction of the first. It's still an original property.

Underline the Black and Spoils are both separate universes as both have like less than 25% of the original story/characters within them (Imho Iron Man is still Iron Man just because Loki or Thor cameo, or join the ensemble as minor characters). It could be that the Spoils universe feels less fleshed out to you because it's contemporary, for me they're on a similar keel. Especially because Efnisien was literally a 2 dimensional paper cut-out of a fae before Spoils who exists for like 5 seconds in the canon, and he bears almost zero resemblance to his originating character except in name, family and appearance. But certainly not in personality, origins, actions or capacity for growth - i.e. everything that makes the character a character.

But it is fannish.

Tl;dr: I definitely don't see Gary/Ef as a 'fanfic' ship. I don't see any of my AUs as 'fanfic ships' because I don't see any of my original writing as fanfiction even though it's fannish in nature.

If anything, Underline the Black is a Spoils AU, lol.

this was recommended to me by a friend who swore up and down i would like this and tbh, i did! it was way funnier than i thought it would be, but kinda towards the middle (maybe more 2/3rds into the movie) it starts becoming more romance and drama heavy and kind of loses the comedic edge i was really liking about it. i also thought kat liking and disliking heath ledger was based more on whims sometimes. like i understood why she'd get pissed with him sometimes but i'd be confused other times, and also equally as confused as to why she decided she liked him again. idk maybe i just dont understand straight people

this movie meant nothing to me and i have already forgotten everything about it except for this thought which i was having the whole movie:

idk i feel bad rating it incredibly low since it didnt piss me off like Civil War did but also, is it worse to get pissed off by a film or is it worse to get so utterly bored by one that all of its details lapse from your mind as soon as you stop watching it?

Inside Out 2

okay so controversial opinion perhaps but i actually liked this one better than the first. HOWEVER, its not like i was necessarily the biggest fan of the first one. it's not like i hated it, i just never really clicked with it, i guess.

i think generally speaking the first one is more cohesive and more creative with its concepts, and has a bigger 'Pixar gutpunch' in the form of Bing Bong, but I thought Riley herself didn't really feel like a character and I found Sadness to be really annoying. so it was very appealing to Me, Specifically, that Sadness wasn't a main character and the other emotions got to play a bigger role (I am especially a fan of all the new emotions, even the ones that don't do shit like Ennui) and also that Riley feels like a PERSON

even if i think the first one had a bigger heartstrings-pulling moment this one overall made me feel way more. mostly cringe and secondhand embarrassment but it was out of recognition like "ohhh fuck ive been like that before". i saw this opening weekend amidst a sea of kids and there were some moments that i (and mostly other adults) were the only ones laughing.

ESPECIALLY a big fan of the vault with all of Riley's secrets. Pouchy was the best character actually. idk I just had fun with this one. I probaaaaaably wouldn't watch it again for a while but if my little brother put this on I would pay attention

La La Land (2016)

i did not like La La Land

i am not at all an expert on music nor musicals so i don't really feel like i can critique the musical aspect of it too deeply, but i CAN tell you that i didn't really vibe with any of the music and at times i found myself like. daydreaming instead of paying attention to what the characters were singing. i didn't really believe in her and ryan gosling's chemistry and i generally found his character to be irritating.

the most enjoyable parts of the movie to me were probably the musical sequences without any actual singing. i do like them tap dancing in the street and then their date where they start flying. i thought those were well-directed. in fact i thought there were a few well-directed and well-edited sequences in the movie. unfortunately i just never found the actual plot music or characters to be on par with the visuals.

i have not seen pretty much anything else that released that year re: Best Actress nominations (although Elle has been on my list) but i really find it hard to believe Emma won her first Oscar for this. idk i know a lot of people love this movie but it truly did nothing to me.

i guess i will say one of the things i DID like was the ending. how it didn't really work out, the silent musical scene at the end over a montage of what could've been. i like that there wasn't a happy ending just because generally i like when movies do that (if it feels believable anyways lol). but it didn't hit for me as hard as it should have because like i said it's not like i really cared for them to be together nor did i care for ryan gosling's jazz journey. i was a bit more invested in emma's acting journey but not enough to really say i truly cared about what happened to her.

idk. pretty visuals but weak everything else. 40/100 maybe

The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002)

soooooo they put on the LOTR movies (the extended editions, specifically) which are the ones i watched. and i have something to admit. i have TRIED, several times, to get into the lord of the rings. i tried reading the hobbit. i ordered a fancy boxset of the LOTR trilogy and tried to read them. i watched the first movie but it took me 3 tries to complete it.

so i thought, okay. everyone raves about these movies. they HAVE to be good. maybe my attention span is fried. recently i've been getting tickets to movies that i could technically watch for free at home but buying tickets forces me to actually pay attention to them since i paid money and i won't be reaching for my phone or stopping to do something else. so i got myself 3 tickets to all 3 movies, back to back to back.

the first one was okay. i've seen it before. i found myself daydreaming midway through because i'd seen it already. i don't HATE it. i think a lot of the characters are generally very charming and likeable. i love samwise gamgee. i really liked borimir. frankly i could do without the elf lady because the way she speaks drove me insane and made me physically uncomfortable. the plot was a slow burn to build up the Fellowship, which I appreciated. surely the second movie would build upon this.

i do think, generally, that I liked the second movie better. i think Gollum is an interesting character and he was being performed and animated VERY well, especially considering the time when it comes to CGI effects. i liked merry and pippin's journey becoming more like heroes. the big battle at the end was done very well. and obviously i thought frodo and sam were a highlight.

that being said there were parts of the movie that i just did not care nor did i understand. im already hard of hearing and having to listen to british accents without any subtitles means that i legit didn't know what characters were saying maybe 1/3rd of the time. the new subplot of the. kingdom of guys. didnt work for me. i cant even remember what the hell the random kingdom of guys was about or named or anyone relevant because i didnt understand what was even going on. it was very fun seeing karl urban though

despite liking a lot of the movie, a lot of it just weighed down on me to the point that when i walked out i was like, "do i REALLY wanna sit through another 3 hours of this tomorrow?" and i decided i didn't and got a ticket refund.

at least the directing is fun. a lot of fantasy movies feel kinda boring and without personality but peter jackson really had a specific flair when it came to directing these.

One Piece (2023)

i didn't finish it so i wouldn't be rating it yet but i actually thought this was pretty fun! this could've been way messier but i think so far it looks like everyone is having fun and its juuuuust wacky enough. my only complaint is that zoro is waaaaaay too serious but idk maybe it gets better, i only watched maybe...4 episodes? i dont remember. i do look forward to finishing it. eventually

Young Woman and the Sea

well this was the sleeper hit i wasn't expecting to like as much as i did

i was bored one day and wanted to see a movie but nothing really jumped out at me that i hadn't seen yet. i ended up picking this one because I have seen Daisy Ridley in NOTHING. i will not watch Star Wars unless someone pays me actual money so I was curious to see her acting in something and picked this one. ive seen sports movies. i figured this one would be like a cheesy inspirational story but hey those arent necessarily bad

and yes, it IS cheesy and inspirational, but i liked it. a lot? it's 'based on a true story' which probably means that there are some embellishments but i found it genuinely compelling, between her childhood after surviving the measles to the way she and other young women were treated as swimmers, even during the olympics.

i thought the swimming seasons were decently thrilling. like, idk as someone who has attempted to watch competitive swimming it's just not really a glamorous sport to watch but the way this was shot and directed and the fact that they literally filmed it IN THE OCEAN, *in the English channel*, means that i was actually really invested in her managing this feat, both as a personal character motive and also for what it represented more widely when it came to women's physical accomplishments.

idk i guess im just kinda in shock i enjoyed it as much as i did. this was probably the movie i walked out of with the most positive outlook of all month. i'd watch it again.

The timing is finally right and I can respond to a tagged prompt!! @explosionshark tagged me asking for 5 songs I'm into recently, so let's see if I can actually remember any of them. I finally subscribed to a streaming service (Apple), so I've been digging into all sorts of random music corners I don't normally spend too much time in, so a couple of these picks are real big, obvious songs, but fall under the category of I don't think I've ever listened to this on headphones before??? Which is a very particular fun kind of novelty. For me.

GODDAMMITALL by The Wonder Years The Greatest Generation is ten years old and I am consequently made of dust. But this b-side that TWY unearthed and re-recorded like the two tracks they did celebrating The Upsides and Suburbia, I've Given You All..., is honestly probably one of the top five TGG tracks, which is saying something. TGG is my (and MANY others') favorite wonder years record, and this song fits in so squarely that I almost lose my mind every time I think about it. Like come on "I'm a sweater that you've given to Goodwill, or lied about and sent to the landfill" is a LINE. Also I am going to rip my vocals cords to shreds screaming the GODDAMMITALLs on that last chorus when I see them in the fall. Def Leppard-Photograph File this under one of those "I never listened to this song with headphones for the first 33-ish years of my life" songs. The production on this song is just fucking insane. It's SO tight. I recently read a theory breakdown of this song that Stereogum did, which I only understood maybe 50% of, but even with that 50%, I learned so much about why this song works the way it does. It is perhaps THE perfect hair metal song. IT JUST SOUNDS SO GOOD GUYS. THE ARPEGGIO GUITAR IN THE CHORUS.

The Pharcyde-Passin' Me By Another one of the I never listened to this on headphones before songs. I was introduced to this track via the Aggressive Inline video game soundtrack in the early 2000s (1. I know of ancient extreme sports video games you have only dreamed of and 2. yes I am one of the whitest people alive on earth). I always enjoyed it, but I had no context for it, and was just much more walled off from hip-hop when I was a young teen. But this song fucking slaps and the sampling in it is unparalleled. And the "my dear, my dear, my dear, you do not know me but I know you very well" verse lights up my brain in the best fucking way.

Hot Mulligan-The Song Is Called What It's Called I was always fine with Hot Mulligan, and enjoyed a lot of their songs, but never really got them. I am just too old and decrepit, and not young and hip enough to listen to the number 1 hot new band, but with this record I finally got it. Or HM is old enough now and has been at this long enough to make something more appealing to my ears, which is obviously what every band should strive to do. But this song in particular does it for me. It's mostly a road song, which I have a love for, but it just feels like a particular distillation of everything this band has been building towards their whole career. Why Should I Watch is a special one, and I hope whatever legacy they leave remembers it that way.

Bad Operation-What Keeps Us Moving This. Is. New. Tone. There's no other band out there doing what Bad Operation is doing. They coined a term for a new wave of ska, one that is truly diverse, accepting, and engaged in away it hasn't been since 2 tone in the 70's. And they did it while making the BEST ska of this decade, if not this century. They are my favorite current ska band, melding so many influences, remaining political in a direct way that still integrates with their music, and just making shit you can DANCE to. Also this is A Summer Song, fucking rock this shit at your next barbecue! No one is doing what Bad Operation is doing, I hope they make 75 more records, and also that I can finally see them live soon.

I am over here holding out the belief that Chaol isn’t dead, and, even if he is tragically hurt or wounded, I think this is gonna be one of those times that SJM undoes it with magic in a few pages. I mean MAGIC is FREE now, so, I think he stands a good chance of being alive, or at least being brought back from the brink of death. Maybe even if he is dead, he’ll get to come back from the dead, because of a surge of magic or whatever. I’m sorry that his “death” has no impact on me; but it happened off screen and I don’t believe it for a minute. And I’m not just in denial like I was about Nehemia! I think he’s gonna be just fine, like Cassian all those times he almost died. It will be undone, and he won’t even have any scars, and Dorian will feel joy again, and everyone will hug and kiss, and Rowan and Aelin will finally consummate, and I‘ll be so happy, I’ll be at PEACE.

March TC Challenge

1. If you could change one thing about your TC, physical or personality-wise, what would it be?

I don’t know, sometimes it sounds like he hates life a little? I’m not delusional that everyone must love their job, but it hurts whenever he expresses too much relief that a holiday is finally coming up, or, especially, when he doesn’t have to teach us for whatever reason (like when we eventually go on exam leave).

2. Are they “your type”, or was falling for a person like them completely unexpected?

I think he is my type in that he’s beautiful, teaches really well, and is super good to our class, but last year I actually didn’t find him that attractive so he probably wasn’t exactly my type, appearance-wise, not when T was still here.

3. If they were an ice cream flavour, what would it be?

I think he would be a fruit flavour that is naturally sweet with a hint of sourness.

4. Imagine you have a whole weekend to spend with your TC. What would you guys do?

I would love to walk his dog with him, go out and eat something nice, maybe have an afternoon coffee date and read together, walk around the lake and just talk…

5. What’s their biggest talent?

Not sure about talents – teaching?? I know my man used to do music though 🥰

6. Be honest: would you guys be a power couple or not?

Probably not 'power' in the traditional sense, but I just feel like we’d probably make each other better people and that’s good enough for me.

7. If they knew about your feelings, would they confront you about it or ignore it?

He probably suspects by now, I think if it got too obvious and was making him uncomfortable he might confront me about it. He’d try to be indirect and gentle about it, though it would definitely be scary.

8. Are they a good singer?

I am very curious, I love his slightly hoarse, raspy voice, but idk if it would sound good singing.

9. If you could choose an outfit that your TC had to wear every single day, what would it look like?

This is very difficult to choose, my inherent love for white shirts says that, plus a vest maybe, though I also love seeing him in casual clothes like hoodies.

10. Are they more academic, artistic, or athletic? What about you?

Incas Lily is probably 70% academic, 10% artistic (we don’t get to see his artistic side so it’s hard to tell), and 20% athletic (he works out more than do sports), I’m probably 75% academic, 15% artistic, and 10% athletic.

11. Do they inspire you as a person?

So much, he is so much goodness and cares about genuine things and forms solid connections with people, he is so good and so loved.

12. Are they an early riser or a night owl?

Early riser most likely, he said on school nights he usually goes to bed at like 22:30 (I wish TAT).

13. Have you ever made each other angry or upset? If so, how did you reconcile?

I’ve always been good in class even before liking Incas Lily so I’ve never made him mad, and he only gets a bit upset at people who don’t listen or do work. There must have been times when he was annoyed with me but didn’t verbalise it, though. I was upset with him for making fun of subjects I like – other than Biology – and felt hurt, we kind of reconciled when he conceded the value in some of those subjects after I pressed him on it.

14. Do you ever find yourself imitating them, either consciously or unconsciously?

I definitely don’t imitate him as much as I did T, the only things I can think about is subtly adapting his sense of humour or hand gestures. I did steal his way of drawing bullet points, I don’t remember ever seeing another teacher draw it like that.

15. What do you think their love language is? What’s yours?

This is extremely hard to tell, not least because I don’t even know if Incas Lily is in a relationship, let alone seen it displayed at school. I would guess quality time and acts of service will probably be high for him. Mine are physical touch and words of affirmation - the latter works very well with having a TC, the former not at all.

16. Have they taught you anything that isn’t school related? Valuable life lessons, insights on how you feel about yourself, etc.?

That time we had a talk about my mental health and stuff, he tried to boost my self-perception and made me see some of the maladaptive thought patterns I had. Especially when he was helping me prepare for my interview, we mostly focused on questions about myself, he helped me think of some of my qualities that I didn't know I had or couldn't admit to. Occasionally hearing his opinions on life during our lessons has also been very valuable.

17. What would they have to do to make you lose feelings for them?

I think anything that compromises his basic identity as a 'good' person, a good teacher – in terms of like moral standards and being a decent human being and all that. That’s the core of my attraction.

18. Are they introverted or extroverted? What about you?

His MBTI is introverted, but he is definitely quite social with many teachers as well as students. He seems more extroverted than me, I’m probably the more introverted of extroverts.

19. Who’s more likely to start rambling about their interests while the other listens?

He’s done it sometimes in lessons and I always love it, I also do on some occasions when talking about the subject I want to major in. 

20. Do you feel guilty about having feelings for your TC?

21. Are you insecure about them liking another student more than you?

Always. I always said I loved T before any of his other students did, but I didn’t have feelings for Incas Lily until a year after he started teaching us, so I’m sure he likes a lot of other students better than me. I might be getting the highest grades in my class, but he doesn’t just want grades. Man, and I’ve seen him have really casual dynamics with some of the students a year or two below us and it sucks.

22. What kind of hairstyle would you love to see them in?

His current one is super pretty, it's curly and thick and frames his facial features beautifully. I miss when the top was dyed silver, though, that was the utmost beauty.

23. Do you think they trust you?

We don't ever really get into an emotional level of trust, but for any academic setting he must do. He let me self study a unit, he said he thinks I'd never be able to cheat, and he let me finish up an experiment alone in his lab when we were still doing experiments.

24. What’s the most comedic moment that’s occurred between you two?

It's hard to say, but it was quite funny when he used to give me quizzes for his lower year groups to do, especially when I sometimes get inexplicably caught up in them.

25. Have you ever drawn them or written about them to vent your feelings?

I write about Incas Lily often – usually in diaries and on this blog, sometimes in imagines.

26. How do you feel when you’re around them? Are you so nervous that you can’t concentrate, or do you just feel happy that you get to spend time with them?

I used to almost always be really happy around him (he was my comfort teacher before I really had romantic feelings), it turned into nervousness maybe a few months back, and now a mixture.

There's one where I told him off for not teaching us something and it comes up in exams, but I think it also annoys him a little.

28. Do their morals, principles, or political views align with yours?

Maybe less so than it was with T, but with basic things like political inclinations, support for gender equality/the LGBTQ+ community/etc., being pro-choice, we are very similar on.

29. Have you ever tried to get over them?

Some days when it gets really bad, like during Mocks in January or sometimes this month, I have wondered whether I should or am meant to get over him, but it's so hard when seeing him makes my heart clench every time.

30. If someone nice your age showed up in your life and you caught feelings for them, would you move on from your TC?

We have so little time now, I doubt I could catch feelings for someone my age or move on from Incas Lily. Hopefully, I will after I go to university.

Like for the inside joke, I (jokingly) complained about him not teaching us something, which might have been a bit hurtful, but I have truly tried to always be careful and good around him. I was hurt when he made fun of some of the subjects I like, especially during times when I was feeling really tense, and I do wonder whether he knew it affected me, even though it was all done jokingly.

He got to work the very next day with some difficulty, because now that Nicole could speak, she could direct her words to either of them. So when she saw her father walk around with his uniform, she stretched her little arms with the saddest ‘dada’ leaving her lips.

It was a blessing and a curse, because that tore at his heartstrings. He just dropped everything to pick her up “Oh my baby girl,it’s okay, Dada will be home soon.” Her eyes were shining with tears “Aw man,don’t do this to me,Nikki,” he chuckles sadly, rubbing her tiny hand before bringing it to his lips, kissing those minuscule knuckles over and over as Nicole calmed down.

Beatrice walked out of the kitchen to meet the two, smiling softly, “She’ll be okay,Roos.” she says as her husband just bounces Nikki in his arms, “We are going out today since there’s no more rain and I’ll leave her with my parents later, I just gotta help Penny-” she smiles more when Rooster lifts Nikki up then brings her down to kiss her cheek, “And we’ll go see Marcus and check how the collection is going.”

“Oh,right.” Rooster murmurs on Nikki’s neck,”It’s in December,right?”

“Yeah,Marcus wants to do a launch party of sorts and…well,we were invited. It’s not for long, it’s just so we can see the collection.”

“That’s alright.” Rooster smiles at Nikki, kissing each of her fingers, “It’ll be fun,right? Yeah,it’ll be fun- then we gotta think about Virginia,gorgeous. After Christmas,yea?’

“Hmhm,Nikki needs to have her first Christmas around family.” she says, “Hey,why don’t we invite Mav to the Christmas party? My parents won’t mind.”

Rooster looks from Nicole to Beatrice and there’s something in his eyes that makes him pause. The last time he actually spend a holiday with his godfather…was when he was about twelve? Maybe, his mother invited Mav over and that was…the last time. He wanted to but at the same time he was nervous about it.

Him and Mav were still rekindling their relationship.

Literal baby steps.

But the little Bradley, the one that loved his uncle and wanted him close at all times, wanted Maverick close by. He wanted his uncle to enjoy some time with him and Bea - and her family. Of course he now had Penny but, maybe he just wanted to relive that, “I can talk to him.”

“Yeah?”

‘Yeah, check if he’s going to stay around for Christmas and…if we aren’t deployed, he can say yes.”

Beatrice’s gaze softened, “You sound nervous.”

He laughs awkwardly, holding Nicole close to his lips so he could kiss her head, “A little.” He confesses with his cheek dimpling a bit “I haven’t spent holidays with Mav in so long. And while we are talking again it’s still…fresh you know?”

Beatrice steps closer to him to gently touch his arm, then kiss his jawline once she stands on her her tiptoes “I know,handsome. “ she rubs his jaw with her thumb, feeling the muscle there tense up as he clenches his teeth “It’s up to you,okay? Would you want to have Mav close during the holidays?”

He hesitates, opening and closing his mouth only to nod in silence, nuzzling Nicole’s soft shirt “Okay, if you are sure talk to him. I have a feeling he’ll love it.” And her fingers comb some of the sandy brown strands back, leaning up to kiss his cheek and keep her lips there “It’s your choice, babe.”

“Yeah,”he inhales “I know, gorgeous. I know.”

And after prying Nikki out of him, with some difficulty, he managed to leave. That didn’t mean it was easy for him to approach his uncle and ask if he wanted to join their Christmas party at Beas parents. He kept looking over at Maverick whenever he walked close, his uncle smiling and offering him a two finger wave before walking away.

Rooster chews the inside of his mouth as he thinks on how to approach this, he had to think a bit because he…wanted Mav to say yes but he was also nervous if he said yes. Did Mav even liked Christmas anymore? He didn’t seem to be into the holidays no more from what he’d seen from when they got back to talking…

He better do it now before he chickens out completely.

“Mav!” his uncle stops walking to turn towards him, a clipboard under his arm, “Hey uh, what’s that?”

“Well,” Mav smirks, flipping through the papers, “I’m going to instruct some new pilots and I had to take notes. So I won’t forget things.” he chuckles looking over to his nephew, “Don’t worry you guy were my favorite group.”

Rooster, while happy to hear that, just cleared his throat, “So uh, Christmas. Are you and Penny going somewhere?”

“Not really. Nothing planned.” Mav looks up at his tall nephew, “Why?”

Rooster propped his hands on his hips and pursed his lips a bit, then crossed his arms because he felt too exposed, “Do you…want to spend Christmas with us at Bea’s parents? You,Penny, Amelia…I mean, if you want to. We’d be really happy to have you.” he pauses, “I…I’d be really happy to have you there.”

The older pilot’s gaze was unreadable but something in his light eyes shone, surprise? Happiness?

Confusion?

All that at once?

Maverick opened his mouth to speak, letting out a surprised laugh, “Really?” he asks his nephew who in turn nods, smiling just a little bit. Maverick taps the corner of the clipboard to his palm to fill the surprised silence that surrounded them, “I…I…yeah,yeah I can do that.”

“Really?”

For a split second,Pete saw ten years old Bradley who’d barely reached his stomach, looking up at him during one of his many visits, asking him to stay for Christmas. Carole often approved of it, in fact he thought she wanted him to stay just to give Rooster a sense of familiarity for a little while. “Yeah,really.”

Bradley’s smile widened, his cheeks getting fuller and his eyes shining, “...that’s…great. Thank you,Mav.” he was giddy, like memories of his past were coming back, memories of him and Mav sharing eggnog as his mom cleaned the table after dinner or the two of them sitting together, with Mav trying to build the train tracks he got from his aunt when he was too young to build them.

And maybe he just wanted to revive that moment because he felt like he could. He had a daughter now, he wanted Maverick to be part of her life as well but he had to deal with his own trauma with his uncle along the way. They came a long way from the first time they spoke, but there are still things that happened, distances that were kept.

The little Bradley in him wanted his uncle back.

The grown Bradley did too but had to deal with his own anxieties and traumas.

“Are you going to let me know where her parents live?”

“Yeah, it’s um,” he clears his throat, “It’s in Little Italy, I’ll send you a map and everything too. It…it’ll be fun,right?”

Maverick,whose eyes were still on Bradley, only nodded with a smile, “Yes, it will be fun Brad.” he looks down at his watch, “Oh, shit. Okay,I gotta go.” he gives his nephew a quick hug, backing away from where they stood, gesturing at him with his index finger, “You gonna call me,right?”

“Yeah, I will.”

“Good,oh! By the way, send me a list of things Nicole can play with, I can figure something out to give her in the meantime.”

“I will Mav.” he waves to his uncle, “Don’t worry.”

His uncle smiled more, saluting him again - this time Rooster reciprocate the gesture - and walked away from there, leaving the tall lieutenant alone and staring at nothing for a couple seconds.

That…was pretty good.

Rooster could relax, he told himself to relax and relieve the tension on his shoulders before turning back around to his office. “That was good.” he murmured, “I’m going to tell Beatrice about it, she’s going to love it.” he is loving it, he’s loving it more than he thought he would. He was really nervous about it, he had to admit it, but now that he got a positive response from his uncle?

Well, now he was more than okay it worked.

And…he had to think about what he could give Mav. What could he give Mav? He knew his uncle but giving him gifts was hard because his interests went from zero to one hundred in a matter of seconds. Again he should talk with Beatrice about it, but he’d only be able to message her around lunchtime and he still had…two hours left. “I can handle it.” he murmured to himself, closing the door in his office “I can handle it. I can handle not messaging Bea. I can do that.”

Even if his fingers twitched and itched to grab the phone, even if he just wanted to talk to her now he held back. Rooster inhales to control himself, rolling his neck and shoulders to ease the tension, remembering he had things to do and even if he wanted to talk to Beatrice, he couldn’t.

Thankfully time passed fast and he could finally check his phone after grabbing something to eat at the cafeteria. There was one message from Beatrice.

Hi Roos! I didn’t mean to send you a message this early but someone wants to talk to you!:) 

He sat down on his usual spot, Maverick not there yet, to press play. It was a video of Nikki, being carried by Beatrice as they walked through the house “Okay,okay, I know you miss him.” his wife laughs, moving the camera close to Nikki whose light eyes immediately focus on her image.

She stills for a second, tapping her little hand on the screen before Beatrice speaks again, “Do you wanna tell dada what you were doing?” Nicole looked over at Beatrice and smiled “Yes,what were you doing before? What were you doing with mama?”

Nicole proceeded then, without breaking eye contact, to let out a long ‘dadadadadadadadadadada’ that changed intonations every now and again, in fact it only got louder when Beatrice brought her closer to their wedding picture hanging on the wall, “Yes,that’s dada. You miss him a lot,right?”

“Dada! Dada!” one single slap on his picture, “Dada?”

“Daddy is at work, we’ll see him in a few hours.” Beatrice wipes Nicole’s face with her hand, kissing the little girl’s cheek as she walks away from the picture, much for their daughter’s disappointed noise “Daddy’s girl,what did I say?” the camera then shows Beatrice’s smiling face “Anyway,I hope you like the surprise,Roos. She’s been talking nonstop since you left…I love you and I’ll talk to you around lunchtime okay? Oh,one more thing.”

The video ended with Beatrice blowing a kiss to the camera then looking at Nikki, “Can you blow daddy a kiss?” Nicole just blinked, another ‘dada’ leaving her lips so Beatrice had to maneuver her hand to show Nicole what she meant. Nikki did try her best to blow a kiss, but it just looked like she tapped her mouth and smiled at him “Yaay, that’s great Nikki! Say bye dada! See you soon! Bye! Buh-bye!”

And it was over… and Rooster was melting. He was tapping his boots on the floor with his face touching the screen, hiding his absolutely melting smile and the way his cheeks were flushed. He was so happy, he couldn’t be happier. If there was any way to write what he felt he wasn’t sure if he’d know the words.

He composed himself the best he could, messaging Beatrice with the same giddy smile on his face

I did gorgeous. He said yes. So now we have to find something to give him as a gift, I have no idea what it’d be though.

Rooster’s thumbs hover over the small device as he thinks about how to reply, licking his lips once he found the words

It did. Yeah,it’s dumb gorgeous. I shouldn’t feel like this, you know? Not anymore.

Roos,honey, you need to understand that these thoughts are normal. You spent a good chunk of your life not talking to Mav, it’s okay to be nervous and scared. I know you love him, I know you want him back in your life and now in Nikki’s life…but certain things your brain can’t really filter and you have a hard time figuring out how to deal with it. You two made a lot of progress in the short time you got back to talking…so please don’t think it’s bad <3

A presence, alongside a tray holding food settles itself in front of him and he looks up to see Mav with his sunglasses up to his hair and looking older than he was, “...must’ve been fun.” he smirks, “Good class?”

“It’s amazing how half of them managed to get into adulthood.” he murmurs, flicking his gaze to the group of officers that walked by, some of them throwing waves his way and he offered weak ones back, “They’ll be fine, but they need a lot of work.” he looks over at Rooster, “You could join me.”

“Hm?” 

“During one of the classes,” Maverick shrugs, “We were together at the Uranium facility. They’d like your input.”

Rooster moved his eyes from his phone to his uncle, arching his brow, “I instructed people before Mav. I don’t know if I’d want to again.”

“You’d technically be there as my guest.”

Rooster stops messaging Beatrice to meet his eyes, furrowing his brows a bit and…well,his uncle seemed like he wanted him to say yes. Perhaps because he wanted his company? Because he wanted someone he knew close by? He couldn’t answer, “Your fanboys are there too,” Mav said, “I’m sure they’d love to see you there.”

Bradley chews his lower lip, would he go there, just once? Just to talk to them? “...well…if you– uh, sure.” he says, part of him wants to but the other part…is nervous.

Coming over announcements about this evening and the events occurring in the rings and at the circles in the rings pretty soon the squares in Northern Florida. That's how he talks that I get it it is real fast. 6 years ago I gained 15 kilos (because I moved to a smaller town and stopped walking around 20 km a day just for running errands). I now walk around 15 km a day, and I exercise as much as 6 years ago. I am stronger than I have ever been.

I have not lost weight. I managed to stay stable in my new 75-80 kg, and that's where I am, where 7 years ago I was 65-70 kg. I was also younger.

I have seen my father get and lose weight because of physical activity. Very likely his genetics play a role, but it may also be the fact that he works in a farm and when he stopped for another job for a couple of years, he couldn't move as much so he got on weight and now that he is back to physical work for 4-6 hours a day, he got back to his usual size, which is also similar to his own father's. My mother, however, despite having high levels of physical activity (she also does some farming although not as much as him), has not gotten on weight or lost any.

Sure, maybe if I also work in the farm for 3 hours a day on top of my usual exercise, I will lose weight. But maybe I will just be as big or bigger due to muscle gain. I don't have my father's body type, nor am I a man, so I keep on moving because it's the best painkiller I have.

What's funny though is that people this past year have told me I have lost weight, even though I have not and some of those times I had even gained more. But they see me fit and agile and they think I'm thinner.

Me: Exercise does not cause weight loss. This is a fact that has been demonstrated so robustly in research that even doctors, who hate and fear evidence, are grudgingly starting to admit this.

Someone reading that post: Cool, but have you considered that exercise leads to weight loss?

’The future of watching a movie using a headset' By 'Leonardo'

So it is out in wild and the reviews are in … and this is not another ‘one of those’.

‘My man’ Om 🔗 also posted about Vision Pro - he himself also highlighting that his post was not one of those. A big difference between us (as if there were just a few - there are not - there are many) is that he has actually tried one out! So there is that.

In his post he talked about 4 magic moments on day one of owning his new toy. This is the fourth on the list.

My last magic moment came when the Vision Pro became what I have always wanted — the future of television (and video.) A screen like none before. I opened up the Apple TV app, and picked an immersive video film of highliner Faith Dickey. I watched Dickey walk across a highline across the cliffs of Norway, but I felt as if I was there. It was so breathtaking — and in that moment, I thought maybe someday this is how all movies, televisions, and even home videos are going to be made for all to experience them live.

And?

And it got me to thinking about that last sentence (that is my bold in the quote that you see).

Christopher Nolan famously produces movies for iMax first Sure, you can watch them in other spaces … but the real experience can only be found on iMax - and not any old iMax .. the best iMax.

Obvious question … how long before the first movie is made that is ’tuned’ for ‘Vision Pro first’?

To clarify … (‘this new movie’ will be to ‘Vision Pro’ as as ‘Oppenheimer’ is to ‘iMax’)

My predictions

1] ’Such a’ movie will be released in 2025. Maybe early 2026. - (Confidence 70 to 80%) 2] It won’t be a GREAT movie - like Oppenheimer. The timeline for that? 2030. - (Confidence 25% - 75% lots of variable in this one - because ‘Great’ is hard to calibrate AND also the demand needs to connect to there being sufficient headsets out there for the story of success to work.) 3] It will be financed by Apple. - (Confidence 100%. Because it is totally in their interests and are already funding movies and can give the makers a LOT of help well beyond dollaroos.)
