danger days but make it a multiplayer fps au

xPoisonPillerx: usually opts for your more standard straightforward offensive classes or light infantry. a well-rounded player with a good sense of strategy, but way too flashy for their own good. excels at hit-and-run tactics and very adaptable; they’re never held back by their equipment loadout no matter how low-quality or substandard. excellent to have on your team for co-op matches, provided you can deal with them being exceptionally bossy on chat. genuinely good at getting the drop on opponents but it’s a toss-up as to whether this is engineered via genuine cunning or by them resorting to spawncamping and fucking around with map exploits. frequently gets strikes for this kind of shit but inevitably manages to sweet-talk the mods out of actually kicking them from the server for good.

KobraKiller: primarily sticks to support classes like medic, which leads people to assume that he’s a free kill during co-op if they can take care of whoever he’s buffing (usually his terrible sibling). this is a very poor beginner’s error to make since he can and will make short work of you if you try to get the drop on him. he almost always sticks to stealth and close quarters during freeplay, and is scarily adept at close-combat and melee to the point where people think he’s botting with how fast his reaction times are. he’s not. he could play competitively if he wanted to, but doesn’t care enough.

fungool69: swaps between heavy infantry, demo, and engineer classes. loves blasting people to gory meat-paste with RPGs and is an insufferable shit-talker. he’s decent enough at team plays but can easily sink to starting shit and screwing things up for their own side during a co-op match purely out of boredom. has a terrible habit of not giving a crap about splash damage and therefore has the highest rate of friendly fire on the server. always teabags their kills and is the second most frequent supplier of shitposts in the discord.

PvtJet: exclusively mains as a long-range precision sharpshooter. exceptionally good at sniping from cheap fuckoff borderline unreachable parts of the map and is the absolute scourge of the server because of the obscene number of immediate headshots he racks up. mostly sticks to co-op because whenever it comes to freeplay his only hope is to keep his opponents at a distance because once you close in on him there’s a 50/50 chance he’s actually lodged himself in some glitched section of the map and can’t actually get out fast enough to escape. communicates almost solely over text-chat and by sending the occasional incomprehensible deep-fried meme.

XxDOOMBOOMxX: never uses voicechat, probably because then it’ll be apparent to everyone just how young she is. n3ws4g0g0 is the only one in the server who knows that this kid is about 12 at the most; despite this being an all-ages server, the kid is insistent on sending GoGo a monthly tithe of pictures of her cat to keep them from kicking her (GoGo wouldn’t kick her anyway, but enjoys receiving cat pictures too much to complain). most of the time she mains as stealth and light infantry but is weirdly good with demo classes. she really shines in co-op when she’s working with a familiar team. fungool69 taught her how to rocket jump and no one has known peace since.

AgtCherriPop: offensive main and just offensive in general. favors a cutthroat aggressive play style and prefers high mobility to make frequent use of run-and-gun to the absolute max. default loadout, no bells and whistles, no special skins, and no specialized equipment. rushes opponents and takes them down, often screaming obscenities into the voice chat as he does so. it’s impossible to tell if he’s having a genuine fit of Gamer Rage or if he’s just doing a bit because he calms down stunningly quickly in time for the next match. in co-op he’ll almost always default to suicide-rush tactics, not caring if he eats shit as long as it secures his team a win.

wkil109fm: almost everyone thinks that there’s no way this guy is for real when they first hear him on voicechat and assume he’s too old to be any good in a match. they all forget that he grew up with boomer shooters like quake and doom and unreal tournament and he will absolutely school anyone who thinks he’s got a slow trigger finger. he sticks primarily to default loadouts, but swaps classes easily, having over time cemented a solid playstyle for just about all of them. he’s nigh unbeatable when it comes to classic one-on-one, which is made even more impressive when you learn that he plays with aim-assist off and crosshairs disabled. everyone calls him “doc” for short due to his tendency to play medic in team matches when no one else is on support. he’s one of the server admins and mods the discord.

n3ws4g0g0: exclusively an engineer main with an intimate understanding of game mechanics and how best to exploit them, a secret which they share with very few. she’s also one of the server’s dedicated griefers, and will absolutely throw a match to make someone’s life difficult from a technical standpoint if they’ve pissed her off enough. makes a brutal team-up with Cherri, backing him up and buffing him with supports in his reckless rush tactics and therefore making them about ten times more effective. text-to-speech on voicechat only and number one supplier of shitposts in the discord.

99hotchimps: mostly mains stealth and light infantry. she’s not a heavy hitter but she’s zippy and can wear opponents down over time. a decidedly defensive player who sticks to waiting out deathmatches until she can swoop in and wipe out any injured survivors. co-mods the discord and WILL kick you if you don’t log in often enough, and is also the only person in the server to bother maintaining this rule at all.

AttentionHorse: mains light infantry almost exclusively high-mobility, light-and-fast, glass cannon type of player that favors agility and sneak tactics. hits very hard but can get taken down quickly if they’re caught. always on voicechat so that the entire server can be treated to their seemingly bottomless music library which consists entirely of vocaloids and early-to-late 2000s pop music, much to the chagrin of any streamer who forgets to keep them muted. they actually have a decent youtube following thanks to a dedicated speedrunning channel but they’ll always make time to tear up some turf with Cherri or Doc during co-op matches.

tommy_chowmein87: literally just here to sell you cosmetics and rares. if there’s some kind of hard-to-find or unique weapon or skin you want, he WILL have it as long as you can pay. you can recognize him because he’s the only person with a default skin who never actually fires a single shot in a match. he moves around just enough to avoid getting timed out but almost all his time on the server is spent initiating or turning down player trades. anyone who thinks he’s a free kill during pvp matches quickly learns otherwise when Doc materializes seemingly out of nowhere to rain holy hellfire on you - and then, assuming Tommy is still alive at that point, headshot the son of a bitch himself at point blank range.

scarecrow3542317: the server admin nobody likes. everyone shittalks him in the discord, which he has, as far as anyone knows, no idea exists. he’s actually very good at freeplay and pvp deathmatches but abjectly horrible in co-op. sticks rigidly to the server rules and gets huffy when people engage in pointless or cheap shit like map exploits. number one petitioner of player bans for that specific purpose. he’s best as heavy infantry and mid-range gunner classes but lacks creativity and is easily predictable once you’ve learned his patterns.

Ultra_Velocity: always opts for general offensive classes. he’s decent if bossy as a team lead (especially on voice chat) but is easily goaded into making mistakes and tunnel visions very easily. he’s a twitch streamer with a couple hundred casual subscribers but resents the fact that his most famous clips literally all involve xPoisonPillerx pulling off batshit stunts on Velocity’s streams. as a result Velocity fosters an extremely one-sided rivalry with them and is determined to beat them on the server scoreboard. he insists that he’ll manage it one of these days.

HotterTwin and CoolerTwin: they’re a matched set and frankly they’re just here for the cosmetics and player skins. most of the time they stick to support classes and buffing other team members (usually each other) so they don’t have to worry about tactics or making judgment calls. they’re surprisingly good when they’re on the same side and can tag-team other players fairly efficiently, but when they’re on the opposite sides of a co-op match they will focus their attention solely on each other and ignore everyone else, driving both of their teams utterly bananas. at times one of them will manage to score their team a win in a seemingly random stroke of brilliance (to which both will attempt to claim credit without fail). honestly it’s a wonder they don’t lose more matches thanks to their godawful ping scores. they’re both also very keen to plug their youtube channel in the discord (it’s makeup. sometimes nails. sometimes gaming while doing nails. but usually makeup.)

VINYLDESTINATION: heavy artillery weapons main only. he plays like any good disruption tank; he’ll soak up damage and deal it out hard. it takes a lot to put him down thanks to how much he’s beefed up his survivability over time. Velocity insists that he play support instead of tanking, and he literally never does. he never talks on voicechat and communicates solely through duke nukem soundbytes.

V0lumeControl: largely mains unobtrusive support and defensive classes and is possessed of a thoroughly average playstyle. the fact that he’s easily overlooked makes him pretty good at sliding past the attention of other players, and if he were interested in climbing up the server scoreboard that wouldn’t be a bad strategy. unfortunately for everyone, that is not his goal in any of his play sessions because Volume is purely there to spruce up matches by annoying the hell out of his teammates with Vinyl as the silent enabler. as it happens Volume is immune to actually being kicked thanks to his role as unofficial bot-wrangler in the discord.

mike_milligram: takes the game wayyyy too seriously. routinely spends gratuitous amounts of lobby time prior to a match meticulously planning a strategy with the rest of his time on the voicechat, oblivious to the fact that they all mute him immediately after. he’s a very conventional player to the point where it’s kind of boring because he always does the same loadout, the same skins, the same strategy, and he insists that it doesn’t need changing because it works (it only sometimes works). never plays support but will juggle offensive and heavy classes based on what he’s feeling.

MonsterBash44: takes the game very seriously, which isn’t as embarrassing when you’re a child and also the target audience. prefers to play offensive and heavy infantry classes but isn’t opposed to changing things up if the team’s lacking a little spice. is a surprisingly aggressive and ruthless player during freeplay, sticking to melee rushing his opponents, which has a good track record as long as you don’t see him coming. his dad regularly tries to buy him cosmetics that he doesn’t actually want but he has no idea how to make him stop.

animaximum: has the prettiest avatar in the entire server, absolutely decked out with top-tier cosmetics and rares, which makes absolutely no goddamn sense considering how piss awful at the game he actually is, no matter who he’s attempting to main. Red saves his ass constantly even during freeplay matches when she’s ostensibly supposed to be another opponent.

100percent: dps tank. frontline heavy melee fighter who strikes fear in everyone’s hearts when she spawns into a deathmatch thanks to her absolute understanding of game mechanics to the point where she hits fast, hard, and out of nowhere. shockingly high-mobility lightning bruiser. she plays more defensively than her reputation and scoreboard position would suggest, and is a veritable bulwark in any co-op match. when it comes to freeplay, you’re better off either teaming up against her or with her if you want to make it to the end.

biginfrared: disgruntled team lead on co-op matches and begrudging ally for whoever looks like they need the most help during freeplay (usually Max, but sometimes Monster). when it comes down to the wire she’s real bad at pulling the trigger on Monster in pvp, which he positively hates because he doesn’t like the idea of anyone going easy on him. in co-op Red prefers support classes, primarily because she sticks close to her sister and together they wreak absolute havoc.

bluehairedbitch: lightning glass cannon of a player, highly mobile and favors super aggressive rush tactics but can leave herself wide open, especially in co-op since she generally operates with the assumption that someone else on her team has her back. positively lethal in deathmatches. will happily team up with someone else to mow down half the map but has no qualms shooting said partner in the back once the competition has been whittled down.

The person who I got the questions from recently redid theirs, so I figured why don’t I redo mine. My original one is very not thoughtful at all, and more of fandom-based fangirling LOL. Let’s see if I make more sense now.

01. What is your nickname? I usually go by agas. Sometimes D_A or Renoir.

02. How old are you? I’m legal.

03. Are you a man or a woman? Girl/Woman/Lady

04. Where are you from? The beautiful Emerald of the Equator

05. What’s your occupation? Freelance commission artist

06. Since how long you’re a supporter of Lord Nobunaga? Mm, 2013 I would think.

07. How do you usually refer to Lord Nobunaga? I usually refer to him as “Nobu” because I’m lazy. I occasionally call him “Nobunobu” or “Nobubu” when I’m shitposting. “Nobunaga-sama” every now and then, when I’m being dramatic.

08. When did you first know about Lord Nobunaga? ... When I was probably 10, and the reference flew right over my head.

09. And how did you know about him? In the manga Detective Conan, there was a case in Osaka Castle involving a group of history fans doing a roleplay game of historical characters. That was where I found about Nobunaga and Hideyoshi’s uma-jirushi XD Of course, it TOTALLY meant nothing to me at the time. Just “there’s a whole bunch of names and it’s history-related, but I don’t know who these people are”.

And then it kind of came back, in a history-themed chapter in Doraemon. And then I guess eventually I found out about Koei’s Samurai Warriors.

10. Which was your first impression of Lord Nobunaga? “I have no idea who this is” probably doesn’t count, huh?

Once I vaguely knew who he is, despite my initial image mostly informed by Koei, I actually felt he’s more like Qin Shihuang rather than Caocao. Probably more because I have no idea what Caocao’s policies are like. Meanwhile, I knew Qin Shihuang once burned a bunch of books and killed the scholars that I thought vaguely resembled the burning of Mount Hiei (it was different, but well, at the time that’s what I think).

11. When did you start to love Lord Nobunaga?

I wouldn’t say I know precisely when. Just that Shinchoukouki and Japonius Tyrannus had very very strange stories in them that made me want to learn more.

I was too busy spazzing in my old post to say... Uh, I was actually... not interested in Nobu, originally? I got those two expensive books for the Nobuspawns. Nobu being more interesting than I thought was a complete accident.

12. If there’s an episode that made you fall in love with him, tell us.

The part where he gave the random beggar a bunch of stuff, and made the nearby villagers take care of this man for the rest of his life. I know Nobu is a decent ruler, but he came across as very detached. Before this I never really heard of anecdotes like this, where he has personal interaction with people.

13. Tell us about your strong feelings (passion, fear, respect or love) for Lord Nobunaga.

I WILL HOUND DOWN EVERY BAD INFO AND OBJECT IT TO OBLIVION LIKE AN UTTER PARODY OF ACE ATTORNEY.

Suffice to say, I've somewhat distanced my feelings for him as a person. Used to have something of an idol worship/geeking. Now... well, I don’t know. Mostly something along the lines of “give him a break, man, he probably needs a hug or something.” I disdain the over-the-top treatment he is still getting from Japanese media, and I just... about feel as bad for him as I do modern day overworked and hassled actors/singers/etc.

14. Which is Lord Nobunaga’s best quality?

Knowing what he wants and working to achieve it. Whatever it is that he wanted, he does his best to get it done.

I mean, what his motivations are is highly debatable now, so I can’t even say “I admire his ambition”, because I no longer know for sure that he has one. So, you know. Hard working. He tried his best and all. And despite the constantly-ballooning problem he faced, he managed to hold shit together just enough for things to function.

15. Which is Lord Nobunaga worst flaw?

Bad people skills? I feel like he’s the type of person who doesn’t really get subtle communications, and prefers thing straightforward. So a lot of the vassal issues is because a lot of the clans are hoity-toity and would be all public image and delicate when they communicate. Nobu then either misinterprets, or doesn’t get it at all, which results in dissatisfaction on both sides.

16. What do you think is the secret of Lord Nobunaga’s strength?

Many things. Good choice of staff, decently clever planning, willingness to override tradition with new policies.

Clinging to old stuff for no reason hinders progress, and even if Nobu don’t exactly “invent” new things, he’s willing to be open to consider new stuff.

17. And what about his weakness?

Bad people skills. Period. That, in general, brings you TROUBLE. Like, dude, WHY.

18. Among all the annedoctes of Lord Nobunaga’s life (historically accreted or not) tell us your favourite three.

a) He danced women’s dance while dressed as a Celestial maiden.

b) He got headlocked in an argument with his son, threw a pillow to his son’s face, and just gave up

c) He wore dick kimono when visiting Dousan

d) He cooked lunch, and it was so lame that the guests could only say “the ingredients were very fresh” so as to not offend him

e) The beggar story

19. And why they are your favourites.

a) I mean, I always thought he just knew Atsumori, since that’s all everyone ever talked about. I just think this was an interesting story. Also, conspiracy theories abound, but I’m going to ignore that for now

b) More because of the son, TBH. Nobu has the vibes of being so strong/intimidating/scary/etc. The fact that he totally just “fuck it I give up” because his son is somehow more stubborn than him is hilarious. Though, makes me wonder if Nobu really is actually more lenient than we think. This sort of anecdotes don’t make its rounds that often. I’ve only seen of this son story, and Hideyoshi.

c) It’s not a true story, far as I can tell, but it’s just such an utter disaster that I can’t help but enjoy laughing at it every single time.

d) Nobu cooking is an amazing story, okay. Nobu. Cooking. That just does not compute. Like, even in a froo froo otome game/shoujo manga, I would be like “that’s so fake”. But this is an account made by someone whose house was being used to host the guest, so...

e) This act of kindness is almost surreal. I honestly had flashbacks of the BIBLE reading this. Like, he just saw this lame beggar, and after hearing the beggar’s story, told the villagers to make sure this guy is clothed and fed properly and has a house built for him. Supposedly he even hand-picked the fabrics for the clothes too. Like, again, I’ve always gotten a rather stoic vibe from the Nobu in fiction. Him being very hands-on like this is very new to me at the time. Still impressed by it now.

20. And what about any that you’re not fond of? I suppose I would say I really hate any modern adaptation of him that goes to the extremes. Either the "crazy power-hungry demon” extreme or “he can do no wrong” extreme. I hate both.

Oh. Telling his minions to kill and destroy the enemy even though they’re perfectly willing to surrender. Sometimes diplomacy is necessary, you know…

21. Is there an episode that make you think “Ooh, Lord Nobunaga, how cool you are!”? The trial of fire. He did a trial of fire for a RANDOM PERSON… for no particular reason? I guess it was out of his sense of justice? But he picked up a burning axehead like nothing, even though it’s really none of his business. This kind of stuff I only hear in myths and epic legends like Beowulf or the tales of King Arthur’s knights or something.

22. Is there an episode that makes you think “Lord Nobunaga can be kind, too!”? The beggar thing I mentioned in question 18. Also, the very caring letter he sent to Nene.

Although the latter is more confusing than heart-warming. Granted, I have never actually seen Nobu’s other “nice” personal letters, but… eh… WHY THE HELL DO YOU CARE THAT HIDEYOSHI WHINES ABOUT HIS WIFE?

23. Is there an episode that makes you think “This thing, and only this, I would have preferred if Lord Nobunaga didn’t do it!”?

How about not going off to Chugoku to gloat? Then maybe Honnoji won’t happen. If Samurai Archives was to be believed, Hideyoshi actually told Nobu NOT to come because he could handle the enemy just fine.

24. Is there an episode that makes you think “Lord Nobunaga, how embarassing!”? WEARING WANG-PATTERNED KIMONO DOWN THE STREETS. WHY DID YOU DO THAT???? I am 99% sure that’s just bullshit rumour, but *sobs* the story still exist anyway, so I will harp on it ad nauseum.

25. Is there an episode that makes you think “This is a posthumous invention!”? “Nobunaga is an evil demon who wants to rule the world and think he’s god”. This is seriously why I cannot stand Sengoku Basara.

26. Is there an episode that makes you think “I can’t think about it without laughing!”? Nobunaga held a party to celebrate Nobutada’s birth. A dance party, it was said. Nobu, really.

27. Is there an episode that makes you think “I can’t talk about it without crying”?

Ahaha haha ha. I feel bad for saying this, but none. I wish Honnouji didn’t happen, but I wouldn’t cry about it.

28. When did you think that Lord Nobunaga’s aestheticism reached its climax? When he had people light up lanterns all through Azuchi. It’s got to look like a night-time city lights view with all the pretty sparkly lights.

29. What kind of clothes fit better to Lord Nobunaga? I really have a thing for seeing him in a mix of European and traditional Japanese clothes.

I like the white European shirt + hakama that he wore in Gou drama.

30. If Lord Nobunaga would be a colour, which one do you think he’d be?

All colours for all seasons. LOL. Lately I’ve been associating him with “spring”, so a leaf-green sort of colour?

31. If Lord Nobunaga could be described by a kanji, which one do you think he’d be? 永 (“Ei”) –Eternity. Whatever you think of him, his presence left a lasting impression.

32. If Hideyoshi is a monkey and Ieyasu is a tanuki, Nobunaga is..?

A very very put-upon raven. Smart, vicious, has the image of doom and gloom but is not actually one.

33. What is your favourite battle of Lord Nobunaga?

The fight against Araki Murashige.

34. Why? Because it involves a lot of things that I care about. Namely the three Nobu hellspawns fighting together. Also. Takayama Ukon.

35. If you could pick one, which is your favourite period of Nobunaga’s life?

The... 1568-1573 period? Basically the early days of being tangled with national-scale debacle. He’s still the (somewhat) “bright-eyes and innocent” Nobu, still optimistic, still... generally well-adjusted.

Also the new story about him being friends with Motonari? Fantabulous, give me more.

36. Which was the greatest danger that Nobunaga had to face in his life (besides Honnouji’s)? Okehazama.

37. Which is your favourite quote of Lord Nobunaga? 是非に及ばず zehi ni oyobazu His last words at Honnouji. I just… marvel at his calmness, I guess. It’s almost a parallel to what he said before Okehazama, but this one… After knowing he’s been betrayed AND that he’s facing a sure-death situation, he pretty much says “oh well, it happens”.

38. What is your favourite scene in Nobunaga’s life, as depicted in novels or TV dramas..?

AHAHAHA HAH HA HA HA I wish novels bothered to go there at all.

I always love Nobu’s interaction with his spawns. Sadly, I do not get that in fiction. Not in the ones that I’ve seen, at any rate. Maybe I should go try reading that Nobutada novel or something.

39. What is your favourite portrait or painting of Lord Nobunaga?

Kano Eitoku’s painting. I dunno, I really like it. Maybe because it’s so crisp, and clear. Also I like the “quirk” of his where he draw Nobu’s moustche curling up like some cartoon character? I thought that was fascinating.

40. Who is your favourite vassal of Lord Nobunaga’s crew?

Hideyoshi used to be my favourite lord before Nobu ate my life, so he will forever have a soft spot in my heart. I like Toshiie, Akechi, and Niwa Nagahide too.

41. And what about the vassal you like the least?

Arrrgh, it’s hard… I don’t particularly dislike anyone!

Although I have to say that I get a bit irritated at Ranmaru being over-emphasized at times. I don’t dislike Ranmaru per se. I just yet to see how he’s in any way more special than all the other valets.

42. Who is the strongest vassal of Lord Nobunaga’s crew?

Katsuie? He isn’t named “Oni Shibata” for nothing.

43. Who is the smartest vassal in Lord Nobunaga’s crew?

Hmm… Tough question. Hideyoshi and Mitsuhide for a tie?

44. Who is your favourite woman among those who had to do with Lord Nobunaga?

With a bunch of info now debunked, that’s hard to say. I would reply Toku-hime by default, because my preoccupation with Nobuspawns. But there’s really no reason for it, is there.

There’s too little to be known about Nouhime, or Kitsuno, or anyone.

45. Who is the enemy of Lord Nobunaga that you hate the most?

None. I don’t CARE enough about them to hate.

46. Who do you think was Lord Nobunaga’s most faithful vassal?

Uh… Niwa Nagahide… maybe? Idk.

47. Who do you think was Lord Nobunaga’s arch-enemy?

Himself.

48. Who do you think was Lord Nobunaga’s benefactor?

Should be his father-in-law. Wasn’t Dousan one of Nobu’s first close allies or something to that effect?

49. If you were one of Lord Nobunaga’s vassal, what rank would you like to have? It depends on the context. Would I be someone born and raised in the warring times? Would I be a time-traveller? Would I be like a ghost possessing one of his vassals? Would I be a time-traveller who somehow writes myself into history?

Secretary, maybe? Or accounting. I’m decent with maths. I’m not really keen on going into battles, and I don’t want to be a page. It’s weird.

50. If you could time-travel to Sengoku era, where, when and what would you do? Well, I’d love to be able to take pictures of the castles’ interiors and layouts for personal reference. Tell me I would be able to return home anytime I want in this scenario, because I don’t want to be stuck in that era forever. I don’t want to be arrested, killed, made into someone’s concubine, sold, or be involved with anyone who later dies.

51. If you could be one of those close to Lord Nobunaga, who would you like to be, and what would you like to do?

His portrait painter? I don’t know. Honestly, I first would want to know what it IS that he really wants. Does he want to raise/cultivate a sensible ruler so he can retire in peace? Does he want to be king himself? Then I’ll figure out what to do/say once I know.

Barring that, maybe advise him to pay more attention to his other sons so that they could step up to the plate just in case anything bad happens (AHEM). I really have no idea why he rarely told Nobutaka and Nobukatsu to participate in battles. As I said in 51, I don’t know what Nobunaga wants. I’ve recently started to get the impression that Nobu is just so put upon. I think he actually would’ve liked it if the shogun or the emperor was competent. He just wants to be assured with his own eyes that everything will be fine. He only took things into his own hands because the official lords in charge (the shugo, the shogun) couldn’t handle the issue, and everything just imploded.

...................................... That’s a very hard question. Face-wise, I like Ichikawa Ebizo as Nobu in Naotora Taiga, but I do not enjoy his cliche personality. I did enjoy Sorimachi Takashi’s Nobu in Toshiie and Matsu, but being that it’s an older series now, I consider it a bit too stiff to my liking.

Iseya Yuusuke and Oikawa Mitsuhiro. Based on looks only. The writing of Nobunaga no Chef is wonky, and Yuusuke’s Nobu doesn’t appear on-screen for long enough for me to judge.

The screenshots of the Okehazama version of Ichikawa Ebizo looks promising, but I really don’t know yet.

Get that Nagoya Bushotai Nobu on movie screens. He’s good for the role. Although... that might mean he’d leave the Bushotai if he becomes a real star, so maybe that's a bad idea.

Taiko was the closest thing. There’s this novel series called “Nobunaga, Conqueror from Owari” or something to that effect in my local language, but I haven’t read it in full. I don’t even remember who wrote it. I remember liking the snippets I read, though. I also like The Signore by Kunio Tsuji.

91. Tell us about a manga featuring Lord Nobunaga that you liked. I like the Sengoku series by Miyashita Hideki. I also really like Nobunaga no Chef and Rin-ne Nobunaga no Yabou. That last one could do without the stupid “I am god” moment, though.

92. Is there an author that you’d like would write about Lord Nobunaga? No. I’m an indifferent reader. I haven’t had a favourite author in ages. Artist, though. I would be happy if Ikegami Ryouichi does another run, but with a different writer. Lord, the previous one he did was so dull. I also like the art style of the artist who did Haou no Tsuki. If they did a Nobu-centric one, and make it run longer, I’d be happy.

A person, like any other. Like, I make it a point now to treat him as a regular human being. The way I would treat someone I might want to befriend. I may have to resort to a bit of psychoanalysis because I can’t really talk to him or anything, but I... kind of approach it with “person first, accomplishment later”, and just walk through it, event by event.

Yep, it’s now way more cold and dead LMAO. Maybe I’m going overboard with minimizing his grandioseness, but I really make a point to see him as a "normal lord” of the era first. Ignore his amazingness, and treat him as one of the many random lords who just exist but people mostly don’t care about. Like, say, if I ask who Oda Nobutomo is, can anyone answer me? They have lands and titles and stuff, super important and all, but people don’t usually care.

This is why I read up on the surrounding culture and customs of the era. Helps me figure out the “atmosphere” of the time period, and not just flail over stuff that looks like a big deal today but is actually “it’s just another Monday” sort of thing back then.

MAP01: Dirge of the Blighted Ovum by Obsidian

The introduction to this new project throws us into a small, compact map that seems reminiscent of fireblu but in a more attractive way. The glitched visuals and the use of two-color textures remind me of Tron, creating an interesting environment that matches the square box architecture. With only a handful of monsters, the action unfolds quickly in effective single combat that works to keep us on our toes. With no secrets or further exploration, this map works effectively without needing to be extremely complex or bombastic. A solid example of a good introduction. 3/5

MAP02: Tyson Fun! by Darsycho

As short as the previous one but with a simpler style and more adaptable to the eyes. This is a classic map in terms of structure and design, without major revolutions or anything special to offer. The title indicates that it is designed for Tyson, but if we bring the shotgun from the previous map it is slightly faster, although doing it in Tyson is balanced enough to offer a good minute of fun. The combat is simple and the layout understandable, go left and then right and that's it, you have completed it. It's not bad, but it's not great either, it's just average. 3/5

MAP03: Jimmy Has An Essay Due Tomorrow But Instead He's Speedmapping With These Assholes by Jimmy

Jimmy is considered a master of the art of speedmapping, and here we can see that even in his early days he was able to handle the concept in a theatrical and fantastic way. This is a medium sized map with a more practical and classic design that shows us an interesting facet of the project. With simple but attractive visuals and a decent queue of enemies, the map follows half-traditional routes that create an environment quite attractive and entertaining to play, as well as slightly challenging at times. While my enjoyment was being quite high due to the map's great length, it is interrupted with a stupid exit at the end of the map that I still don't understand exactly how to overcome. A dozen Archies on top of you and I don't know what the fuck to do. Mind you, this is a common thing in A.S.S. so, anyway, how's that? 3/5

MAP04: Nazi Tittyflake Tornadoes by Unholypimpin

Such an extravagant title brings with it a map that is relatively simple. This map has an air of shovelware shit, and for some reason that gives me a charismatic charm that makes me feel graceful. It's a simple, straightforward map with no major problems or bugs. On the outside it looks pretty simple but as we go deeper we find some pretty hellish and rusty textures that remind me of Silent Hill, as well as a bunch of blue Nazi sergeants ready to attack us and a few more surprises involving Cyberdemons and a few little spiders. Not bad, very enjoyable and for some reason I can't get out of my head that feeling that I just played a hidden gem of shovelware from the 90s. That's good in my book! 3/5

MAP05: Cookies 'n Wine by ClonedPickle

Fairly square and open in the beginning, presenting a simple layout with bland combat without much complication. The map then changes to cave-like interiors and launches us into an adventure of hunting spectres and so on. It ends with an obligatory death-exit, in my opinion, and that's it. Nothing more, nothing less. This is a fairly simple map that is not complicated at all and follows a somewhat boring system at times. With quite simple visuals and without much work, it is probably one of the most mediocre of the WAD. 2/5

MAP06: Spatterblue 2: Mosh Galosh by Alfonzo

It is hard to believe that this map is a speedmap, but the truth is that it contains certain features that give it that air, but above all, it overcomes the restrictions and works perfectly well under its limits. The blue visual theme and the compact but excellent way of creating a well designed circuit layout make this a very enjoyable and challenging map under its own justifiable terms. It is fast, intense and has a good flow with no bugs or major problems. Even the little secrets feel like they blend perfectly under the established system. It may be quite small, but it's so much fun that it's among my favorites of this session. Pretty cool and done as it should be. Speedmapping done right! 4/5

MAP07: Industrial Butt Scream by Rottking

If you like Quake, this map will give you a good game. Quite brown, enclosed and with an industrial feel. Designed with a system based on a block layout, the map is simple in its flow but has enough touches to make it entertaining, attractive and fun in gameplay and action. Without major complications and with a basic closed layout. Not bad at all! 3/5

MAP08: Alfonzo and Gary Oldman Visit The Museum of Social Decay! by Tarnsman

Oh oh, I hope you like fireblu and pain. This map has a style that reminds me of the first one, but it opens its limits and shows us a more bloody and intense frontier. Plenty of chaingunners serve as the main appetizer, but things get even fatter when we're thrown into an insane room with dozens of archies and a Cyberdemon for company. With a super simple and compact layout, the real juice of this map is centered on its atrocious yet cool gameplay. A bit bland visually at times but interesting and engaging. 3/5

MAP09: Avoid by General Rainbow Bacon

More blue and red but in a style that reminds me of a dungeon. This dark map establishes an eerie atmosphere thanks to the silence and anticipation, but ends up being a traditional map with a few explosive surprises near the end. Simple, without much to offer and quite short. Not bad, not good. Decent. 3/5

MAP10: Half-Assed Fun! by Darsycho

The title gives us an idea of the type of map it is. Half finished, half fucked up, but decent by its own standards. Dark and full of Spectres, the real fun of the map lies in the BFG spamming and the pile of monsters we have to kill. Difficulty is almost nil, aside from the first room that features some fun combat, after that it's just point-and-click or fire-and-forget. I guess it's entertaining enough under ASS's own characteristics to say it does a good enough job. But it's meh in my opinion. 2/5

» Ah, speedmapping. We all love it, we all hate it. An art as old as the history of WADs itself, and one that has proven to bring with it both the worst mappers in history and the best. It's a difficult technique to acquire, but one that with time and practice can yield fantastic results. The very idea of limiting ourselves to a certain set time can be detrimental at worst, but at best, when we give the tools to an artist looking for a challenge, masterful work can result. Here we have a group of illustrious intellectuals who have come together to form a cooperation that is as unique as it is discordant. One where love and hate mix to enjoy one single thing: creating maps. Abyssal Speedmapping Sessions is all about speed, asses and Alfonzo. So, let's dive into this hole and see how deep it goes. After a somewhat long break from the first sessions, I suddenly had the urge to return to this iconic series that from time to time hides more than a few gems, or a total disaster. Luckily, session #10 seems to be a good balance between shitposting and good map design. Very entertaining maps, indeed! Mappers had the option to choose 3 textures from: Erratic Texture Pack 1, DrDoctor Texture Pack and Marcaek's Super Special FIREBLU Ensemble! So most of the maps are quite simple to look at but contain enough touches to establish a good visual rhythm. Considering there are no stock textures, that alone gives it some appeal. Especially striking are the fireblu textures, which create a rather techy atmosphere that reminds me of the original Tron movie. A certain visual touch, from a couple of colors that manage to create enough depth to establish a sense of place. Not all maps are entirely blue with red, and there are a few surprises that turn the color around and bring attractive designs. Quake-inspired maps and some that look like sapphires to boot. Undoubtedly, even if most of the maps have a rather simple and plain layout, no map is truly ugly and some even stand out for having a solid visual quality. The sessions stand out for being crazy gameplay as well. It's often hard to balance something if you have a time limit, especially if it's only two hours, but the guys here know what they're doing... mostly. Most of the maps throw you right into the action, trying to create a tactical feeling that tells you how to move and at the same time how to fight. The maps aren't fucking difficult but maintain a solid and balanced challenge that welcomes all types of players, in my opinion. While certain combat can feel a bit simple at times, overall, each map brings something different to the table and creates a nice variety of treats to try.

Originally I didn’t think I would put this on the playlist but this is what trial and error sounds like when I think of Paisley. Pushing limits, reinterpreting notes, making new ones. He’s got a knack for illusions, and there’s something about this which makes me think of the potential times he would have tried something new, had it work, and then spent countless hours trying to replicate it, asking the Khoursirian for help. Man O To - Nu. Coffeehouses, warm evenings, second-rate wine, singing with friends on the docks, picking fights alongside them, running from the ones they couldn’t win, that half-impressed , half-cautious smile on dad’s face when he saw those tricks of the light, and those days spent talking to the Khoursirian. It’s a sweet and nostalgic look back on a youth well spent in Capital. Flight Over Venice 2 - Jesper Kyd. I mean, come on. The entire AC2 sountrack could fit Rioja, but there’s something about this piece which really fits The Stays. Feeling’s Gone - Cat Empire. Everything went to shit in Capital, and the kid who would become Paisley left. It’s not like everyone at home is gone, and these Helltroopers seem like a decent lot. In some other life, he probably thought in those earlier years, perhaps he would have liked to be a bard. He can sing as a soldier, though, and he’ll always have the knack and his spellbook, and with company like this, that’s good enough. Brother - NEEDTOBREATHE. The kid who became Paisley was no stranger to being “the sensible one,” even if only in comparison to his goon squad. Who would have thought a bunch of young folk with hangups become mercenaries? Guess someone has to be the adult in the room, even if this hypothetical adult has to occasionally fight hooligan instinct. Randy Dandy-Oh - The Dreadnoughts. Gotta love the way a room sounds singing. It has to be some unique quality of soldiers to know how to carry a tune. Whisper - The Dear Hunter. Who knows, maybe he could have been important if he didn’t sign on to The Chain. He doesn’t really care, though. Everyone here must have made stupid decisions to end up in the Fuck Up Squad. Even if the scholars don’t remember the name of the man who is now Paisley, the Chronicle will. The Tragedy - Pax Cecilia. Blackbottom really shook things up. Dozens of Helltroopers dead, the contract left unfinished, the officers all on board that boat which got away. Time for a few hard, straight-faced weeks of picking up the pieces and getting everything back together. Brothers In Arms - Dire Straits. This is next to The Mercenary by Iron Maiden on songs that have become inseparable from the Chain of Acheron in my head.

Name: Naoki Anzai Age: 21

Hometown: El Asilo, CA Type of home/neighborhood: Nak grew up in the middle-class area of the city, but currently lives in an apartment on the outskirts to save money. The apartment building is in decent condition… one bedroom, one bath with older furnishings. Nak’s landlord is something of a retired gangster and still has connections within a few gangs, leaving the building itself safe from gang violence and vandalism. But that doesn’t account for the random schmucks and creeps that occasionally break in.

Orientation: demiromantic/demisexual, no gender preference Relationship status: a single dingle

Current family: Akira Anzai (father), grandparents Family background (parents, previous marriages, etc.): Nak comes from a single-parent home, having lost his mother at a young age. His grandparents are still living, but he has not met them in person. Friends: Excluding NPCs, Moxie and Aaron atm. Moxie used to babysit Nak and the two are in the midst of reconnecting. Aaron started off as a work associate but after going on several search missions together, Nak has tentatively entrusted Aaron with his civilian identity. Other close relationships: NPCs that I don’t really feel like going into. Relationship with men/women: Gonna just… smush these two prompts together bc there’s not a whole lot of difference. He’s a misanthropist and treats everyone with the same aloof disdain when in person. But Nak does have an appreciation for strong, aggressive women that could beat the shit out of him. He watched too much Xena as a kid.

Job: Does not have a stable job, at present. He does a lot of small jobs for quick cash, on top of doing costume commissions. Nak also runs around as Songbird (Vol. 2) to take on more dangerous work for a bigger payout. Religion: Shinto, but has been known to observe Christmas because it was his mom’s favorite holiday. Attitude towards religion: Doesn’t see any harm in having a belief system, so long as it doesn’t drive anyone to shitty extremes.

Favorite pastimes: Arguing, fullstop. After that is getting banned from online games and shitposting in forums. They also binge-watch retro anime and cartoons. Hobbies: They’re something of a musician but rarely talk about it outright, too shy to share any of the songs they’ve mixed or composed. Nak plays the ukulele and otamatone, and is currently learning the guitar. They like to sew and are an avid cleaner. It’s common for them to come home and clean as a way to relax. Favorite sports: They don’t sport or watch sports. Favorite foods: Soul food! Nak will also eat anything lemon-flavored… almost obsessively so.

Strongest positive personality trait: mmm… he’d do anything for his loved ones. He’s fierce and deep with his love and will always do what he can for the people he cares about. Strongest negative personality trait: Probably just how negative he can get? He doesn’t see the world or himself in a positive light and is always quick to assume the worst. Sense of humor: It’s pretty meme-oriented. Nak’s the type to enjoy abstract comedy and meta jokes. They find big-fishing funny and it’s common for them to tell elaborate lies with a deadpan face as an attempt at humor. Temper: They pretend to be angrier than they are online in the hopes of stoking fights. But Nak generally does not get mad without some sort of serious catalyst. Threatening loved ones is an easy way to make them furious. They’re a jealous partner and will also grow angry whenever someone gives their partner a lot of attention.

Consideration for others: Not a whole lot! Nak only cares about his loved ones… he’s apathetic to everyone else and generally won’t engage in little acts of courtesy like holding open doors or allowing people to go ahead of him. How other people see them: Depends… Nak’s one of those people that can make alright first impressions but gets annoying over time. Not sure what the dash currently thinks of him. Opinion of themselves: It’s very low. They’re of the opinion that they’re a terrible person and don’t have any redeeming qualities. He isn’t really torn up about it… it’s more an acknowledgement and exaggeration of his flaws. Ambitions: As of now, getting his dad out of El Asilo. Secondary to that is finishing school and finding a job that allows him to make use of his powers. He’s not too picky anymore on whether or not it’s legal. Philosophy of life: Everyone can go fuck themselves.

Well, I guess it’s about time I did another

EARL’S ANIME ROUNDUP

My thoughts on some recent anime below the cut. This is gonna be a long one, so skip it if you’re not really interested. I’ll put all the series I talk about in the tags, so if you see one that catches your interest, read on.

Okay, so. I’ve been watching a few different series lately, and almost all of them are frustrating me in some way or another. I like all of them, don’t get me wrong, it’s just... well, here’s my thoughts on all of them.

Hinako Note: This one is actually from last season, but I just got around to watching it recently. I’m 5 episodes in and so far, it’s a pretty cute show. It’s about a girl who grew up in the countryside and has a hard time talking to other people without freezing up (like, she literally turns into a scarecrow), so she decides to move to the big city and take up theater to help her overcome her shyness. This works out about as well as it sounds like it would, that is, not at all. She ends up living in this odd apartment/bookstore/cafe place, and she goes to high school with everyone else who lives/works there. I’m not gonna analyze this one too much; some of the reviews I’ve read have been like... people taking this WAY too seriously. Visually, it’s pretty good. Half the time the characters are all chibi/SD and the other half they’re normal. Also, the animators can’t quite seem to come to a decision about how big Hinako’s boobs are. Like, it’s really odd having blatant fanservice mixed in with cutesy moeblob animation. I’m not gonna complain, because the cutesy parts are cute and the fanservicey parts are nice to look at, but it’s just weird. The voice acting is, like virtually every Japanese production, quite good. There’s something about the voice acting industry in Japan that consistently produces high-quality work, as opposed to the anime dubbing studios here, which are almost all uniformly awful. (Just a heads up, I’m not going to mention the voice acting in any more of these series unless it really stands out as exceptional; for the most part, every anime series I’ve ever watched has had really high-quality voice acting.) The music is fine, I guess, it’s nothing noticeable, but the opening song is quite possibly one of the most ANNOYING SONGS IN ALL OF ANIME HISTORY. It’s so catchy and yet so irritating. The ending song is kinda like that too, there’s too many tempo and time changes and I usually like that sort of thing, so I don’t know why it bothers me so much. Anyway, overall this is a pretty good series for what it is, as long as you don’t take it too seriously. It’s cute, and I enjoy watching Hinako’s relationship with the other characters develop, along with her own development in overcoming her limitations and growing as a person. I give this one a 7/10.

Gamers!: THIS SHOW PHYSICALLY HURTS TO WATCH. Especially the last couple episodes. I watched episode 7 and my chest hurt from how hard I was cringing from secondhand embarrassment. I WANT TO PUNCH THESE STUPID KIDS INTO THE SUN. Okay, that’s not fair. Let me back up a bit. Gamers! appears to be a show about 5 high school kids in various interrelated relationships with one another, and about every single one of them fundamentally misunderstanding every single one of those relationships. It’s ostensibly about video games, too, but that seems like more of a side thing. There’s Keita, the main character; his love interest, Karen; his apparently best friend Tasuku; his maybe-but-maybe-not rival/friend Chiaki; and his possibly actual best friend Aguri. To really explain the plot of this show, I’m going to have to explain how all the characters relate to one another. I drew that stupid chart a while back but I don’t think anyone cared, and it was kind of just a shitpost anyway. So here we go: So Keita, we think, has a crush on Karen; she’s pretty and popular, and he is quite surprised to learn that she plays video games just as hardcore as he does (she’s actually quite a bit better than him). She invites him to join the school’s gaming club, but he turns her down for reasons he can’t quite explain. Karen ends up developing a huge crush on Keita, and neither of them seem to realize that the other reciprocates their feelings. This is because of the other three characters and their STUPID FUCKING MEDDLING. So Tasuku and Aguri are dating; their back story is kinda cute, but their present-day relationship is... practically non-existent? Like, dude, stop being your buddy’s wingman and actually hang out with your girlfriend. Keita and Aguri became friends because they wanted each other’s relationship advice, and now they hang out more than Aguri and her actual boyfriend. WHICH OF COURSE CAUSES MISUNDERSTANDINGS. Tasuku thinks Aguri is actually dating Keita; Aguri thinks Tasuku is actually dating Chiaki; Chiaki has a crush on Tasuku but can’t admit it; and Karen appears to be concerned that all the other girls are going to somehow take Keita away from her. In short, it’s a HUGE FUCKING MESS and it’s hard to watch sometimes, because all the characters invent these little fantasies about the others in their heads, and then act on the assumptions that those fantasies are actually how it is in reality, when usually it’s nearly the complete opposite. So everyone is blundering around not realizing what’s actually going on, and jumping at shadows that aren’t really there, and all of this could be resolved if theY WOULD JUST FUCKING TALK TO EACH OTHER FOR FIVE FUCKING MINUTES OH MY GOD WHY ARE THESE KIDS SO FUCKING STUPID AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Sorry, I get carried away. I really like this show and I want to see how it ends, but getting there is going to be a painful journey (though I hope that ultimately makes it more satisfying in the end). Technically it’s a decent enough show; the animation quality falters a bit sometimes, but overall everything looks good. I like the music in this series, and the eyecatches and end cards are all well done. I give it a 7/10 as well.

Hajimete no Gal: I’ll get this out of the way at the start: this is explicitly a fanservice anime. There’s no mistake about it, the story is kind of just a vehicle for fanservice. At least with this one, the story is good enough to make it seem like maybe it actually IS about the plot and the fanservice is just decoration, but I’m pretty sure this is primarily about the T&A. Also, if you’re watching it on Crunchyroll like I am, you have to put up with some TRULY ATROCIOUS CENSORSHIP. Like, some of the stuff they cover up with obnoxious censor bars is not even that bad. It makes it hard to watch sometimes, frankly, because it’s just SO ANNOYING. Like, slap an age restriction on it and call it a day, will ya? I’m an adult and I would like my “””adult””” content left intact, thank you. But hey, on to the plot. I think I described it a bit previously, but it’s about a totally normal high school boy named Junichi. His idiot friends dare him to ask out their school’s most prominent “gal,” Yukana. On a whim, she accepts his proposal, and the two become a couple. The series appears to be largely about the development of their relationship (which is actually quite sweet, as the two of them are both so innocent), and the actions of their friends, which seem to be focused on preventing said development. This show has both one of my favourite characters in all of anime, and one of my least favourite characters in all of anime. The former is Yukana; she’s kind-hearted and fun and sweet, and she is just stunningly gorgeous. Like, it’s pretty hard for me to think of a single anime character who I’d consider to be more beautiful than her. The latter is... well, I don’t remember his name and I don’t want to bother with looking it up, because I FUCKING HATE HIM. He is literally a pedophile. It is his sole defining character trait. Like, every time he opens his stupid mouth, it’s because he’s fantasizing about little girls. None of the other characters apparently find this disturbing; a couple of them have made offhand jokes about him going to jail, but that’s it. Nobody seems to think it’s creepy or anything. Fuck, in the most recent episode, one of the other characters HELPS HIM GET A PART-TIME JOB AT A DAYCARE. LIKE... NO. Anyway, the actual story, when we get to focus on it rather than fanservice or stupid side stories, is really cute and sweet. Junichi is, of course, completely clueless about girls and about relationships, and seeing him learn and grow and become a better boyfriend to Yukana is really sweet and endearing. He undergoes actual character development, which seems rare for this type of series. The animation is top-notch; excellent artwork throughout, and consistently excellent too (plus did I mention how gorgeous Yukana is?). I give this show an 8/10, mostly for Yukana because I love her.

Netsuzou Trap: You’ve seen me post about this one before. This one’s got fanservice too, but it’s less of a focus, it seems; it’s more of a relationship drama than anything else. It’s about two girls, Yuma and Hotaru, who have known each other since they were kids. Hotaru was always shy and reserved, and she got picked on quite a bit, and Yuma would always be there to rescue her. When they got to middle school, Hotaru really started coming out of her shell, and she became quite popular, especially with the boys. Flash forward to high school, where Yuma has her first boyfriend, and Hotaru is on Man # 63643846 or whatever. Yuma expresses nervousness about doing... y’know... THOSE kinds of things with her boyfriend, and so Hotaru is like “hey why don’t we practice with each other, that way it totally doesn’t count, right?” Predictably, this leads to Yuma falling in love with Hotaru, and vice versa, though neither of them will admit it to each other (Yuma seems to have trouble admitting it to herself as well). The series is basically about how the two girls are cheating on their boyfriends with each other. The title itself is kind of a pun; it’s usually stylized as “Netsuzou TRap”, with the letters NTR being short for the Japanese word “netorare,” which basically means “infidelity.” As the series progresses, it gets harder and harder for Yuma to continue denying her feelings for Hotaru; her boyfriend Takeda senses that something’s up and that she’s not really that into him, and decides to, ahem, give Yuma some time apart to think about things. He’s such a sweet guy; he goes out of his way to make Yuma comfortable, and even after their little falling-out, he remains friends with her even though it’s super awkward. He gets played like a fiddle by pretty much all the other characters in the series, and it’s kind of sad. Hotaru’s boyfriend Fujiwara, on the other hand, is a total asshole and I want him to die. He’s physically abusive to Hotaru, and attempts to emotionally manipulate pretty much everyone (he catches Yuma and Hotaru fooling around one day, and while he already knew something was going on, he knows that Takeda doesn’t, and he basically threatens to tell everyone what’s going on unless the girls let him join in the next time they do it). It’s kind of a... dirty series, I guess. Not dirty in the sense of, like, sexual stuff, although there is some of that. I mean it makes you feel dirty, you know? Like, it’s not always easy to watch. It’s kind of dark and depressing; it’s definitely way more of a drama than any of the other shows I’m watching this season. I’m extremely invested in it, though. I kinda got spoiled on how the manga turns out, and I really hope the anime doesn’t end the same way, because I will be super depressed if it does. Also, the episodes are all about 9 minutes long, as opposed to the more normal 23-ish minutes. At least one minute is taken up by both the opening and the ending (which both have EXCELLENT music, by the way), leaving you with about 7 minutes of actual content in each episode. This wouldn’t be bad if you were binge-watching the whole series all at once, but the episodes only come out once a week. Waiting 7 days for 7 minutes of content is SO AGGRAVATING. I give this series a 9/10, which apparently puts me in the minority on MAL, as the series only has an average rating of 5.65/10.

New Game!!: Note the two exclamation marks!! This means that it’s season two!! And thankfully, it appears to be exactly what us fans of the first season wanted: more of the same!! I’ll explain the background of season 1, since it’s pretty much required to explain season 2. Our protagonist is Aoba Suzukaze, who gives up going to art college to pursue her dream of working in the video game industry. She joins the company Eagle Jump, which produces her favourite video game series ever, Fairies Story. She dreams of being a character designer like her idol, Ko Yagami, who did the character designs for the original Fairies Story game. Imagine her surprise when she learns that not only will she be working on the third installment of the series, but that her boss is none other than Ko Yagami! The series is pretty much a standard slice-of-life show, although refreshingly, it’s about actual adults with actual jobs rather than being about high school students like EVERY GODDAMN OTHER slice-of-life anime out there. It follows Aoba and Ko and their co-workers at Eagle Jump, detailing the ins and outs of the industry, and the ups and downs they experience. Also there’s a lot of implied lesbians in this show. In fact, I don’t think there’s a single man in this entire series, except possibly for background characters. Every employee at Eagle Jump is a woman; the director for the Fairies Story series, Shizuku Hazuki, explicitly says that she only hires cute women for this exact reason. And while there are definite implied pairings in this show, you can ship anyone with pretty much anyone and it would work. Ah, the fanfic writers must love this show. I wouldn’t know; I don’t want to read any. ;_; Anyway, the second season focuses mostly on Aoba’s new job as the lead designer for a new IP the company is making. Nobody seems to be taking her seriously, though; even though Ko gets promoted to art director, they still ask her to do a bunch of the work that Aoba should be doing, apparently because they think Aoba’s not good enough. It’s partly about her struggle to have her voice heard and to be recognized as the talented designer she is, and partly about how these office dynamics put strain on everyone’s relationships (particularly Aoba and Ko, who are at this point pretty much officially a couple I WILL FIGHT ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE) and just generally balancing work and life. It’s a cute series and it’s compelling for anyone who was a fan of the first season; like I said earlier, it’s a direct continuation, and is exactly more of the same. The characters grow and develop, of course, particularly Hifumi (aaaahhh I love her so much), but for the most part it’s familiar territory. The animation is good throughout, as well as the music. This one gets a 9/10 from me.

And that’s it! I’d love to go into detail in another post about the games I’ve been playing lately, but I’m tired and I’m going to bed shortly. Maybe I’ll do a games roundup later this week or perhaps next week (things are going to be busy with me for a while so I’m not going to be on much).
